It’s been a very long time coming, but following the record-breaking success of her Midnights album, Taylor Swift has announced she’s officially going on tour in 2023!

Dubbed The Eras Tour , Swift will be performing a musical journey through her eras in stadiums across the U.S., with international dates set to be announced at a later time. The tour will open in Glendale, Arizona in March at State Farm Stadium, with two nights at SoFi Stadium in LA, closing out the leg in August. Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN are the supporting acts throughout the tour. Check out the full list of dates below!

Fans are able to register for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan presale now through November 9. Capital One credit card holders will have their own presale beginning on November 15 at 10 a.m. local time, with public on-sale beginning on November 18 at 10 a.m. local time. According to Variety , tickets will range between $49-$449, with VIP packages ranging from $199-$899. Per Ticketmaster, those who were Verified Fan purchasers for Swift’s canceled Lover Fest will receive preferred access to participate in the presale.

Of course, there’s no telling what songs from what albums Swift will perform, but with 10 studio albums under her belt and two (released) re-records, the world is her oyster. What songs are you hoping she’ll perform?

Babolat Pure Aero 2023 Review

The Pure Aero is one of the most-asked-for racquet reviews. So many players use this racquet. Here is my Babolat Pure Aero 2023 review.

The Babolat Pure Aero 2023 is the 7th generation of one of the most popular racquets in the market. The idea behind this model is to give you plenty of power and spin. It’s a racquet that works from intermediate to advanced players, but a small caution is that it can be a bit stiff for players with arm concerns. So avoid using a high tension (53 lbs or higher) and a stiff string (polyester) if you can.

What’s new?

What’s new with this generation? I would say it’s a little bit of a throwback to the Aero Pro Drive. For most players, the denser string pattern will be a big improvement. You get better control and less string movement with the Babolat Pure Aero 2023 than the predecessor. However, the denser string bed makes it stiffer, so I had some arm concerns with RPM Blast strung at 53 lbs. It played better with better comfort when I changed it to Grapplesnake M8 1.30 at 47 lbs, for example. So consider your string choice and tension wisely if you’re worried about stiffness.

Technologies

Denser pattern – one skipped main string @8, similar to the Aero Pro Drives.

NF2 Tech flax technology – supposed to improve feel and vibration dampening. So-called flax inserts are wrapped at “strategic locations in the frame, create optimal shock absorption and fine-tuned sound quality for an exceptional playing experience,” according to Babolat.

The predecessor felt a bit more comfortable, probably due to added movement in the string bed. But I prefer playing with the 2023 version, thanks to improved control.

Specifications

Not much is changed in terms of specs compared to the previous generations.

Head size: 100 sq inches / 645 cm2 Weight: 300 g / 10.6 oz (strung 315-20g) Balance: 32 cm / pts HL (strung 33 cm / 4 pts HL String pattern: 16/19 Swing weight: 280-85 unstrung, 310-15 strung, Stiffness:  65-66 RA strung (TW average)

How does it play?

Thanks to the denser string bed, this racquet offers better control and a more consistent response than the predecessor. We’re back to the more reliable string bed of the Aero Pro Drives (from the 2016 Pure Aero, the pattern became more open). Most Aero players will like this change and I think it’s a positive one.

I did however feel an increase in stiffness compared to the 2019, partly due to the denser string bed, but there has also been a slight increase in stiffness of the frame. With RPM Blast 1.25 strung at 53 lbs, my arm complained a bit (which rarely happens these days), but with a softer poly and a dropped tension to 47 lbs, the racquet felt okay to the arm. Your choice of string and tension remains essential to how the racquet feels and performs.

The feel on drop shots and touch was excellent. The extra control is noticeable and allows you to take bigger cuts at the ball confidently. I also liked the nice power on serves.

Overall, the Babolat Pure Aero 2023 plays very similarly to the Aero Pro Drives of 2010-2013. Simply a must demo for players looking to get back to that direct, controlled, and spin-friendly feel.

Who is it for?

Intermediate to advanced players looking for spin and power. Players with arm issues should probably look elsewhere.

The new Babolat Pure Aero 2023 pushes the iconic Aero line in the right direction. It’s a trip back to the models of 2010-2013 (APD GT), which so many players loved. If you’re looking for power and spin, this is a must demo, but players with arm issues should look elsewhere. And since the racquets are relatively stiff, consider that in your choice of string and tension. The denser string pattern allows for more control, while the racquet retains good spin potential and power when needed.

Not that interesting review. Very standard cut and paste style. Babolat pure aero 2023 racquet balance is 7pt HL printed on the racquet itself but this review states Balance: 32 cm / pts HL (strung 33 cm / 4 pts HL.

I’m playing with aero pro drive gt 2010 model, you mention that it’s very similar. I think I would prefer a bit more manuverable version, mine is 335gr strung (maybe quality was a bit off). Pure aero 2019 is 315gr strung so there is difference. Should I consider the new version or check the 2019, I’m concerned about your comments of less control. Thank you

I have way too many rackets, but I played with my mates pure aero 2023 with solinco tour bite soft at around 50lbs. I usually string most of my rackets around 58lbs with luxilon savage and are classic type frames (eg prince phantom 100×18*20,Dunlop cx200+, head gravity pro etc) . I could not believe how easy this was to play with and it had decent control, whether I went for flat shots or Nadal style forehands. Now im considering this or the VS. interested to know the difference in your opinion.

Im reading here that thte 2019 is stiffer which would makes sense since it has a higher stiffness rating (67 > 65): “I think the new version has better control and is softer on the arm”

This sounds like the new version feels stiffer than the predecessor. Are you comparing 2019 vs 2023 here, or does predecessor refer to a version other than the 2019 one?

Hey Larry, thanks. I think it was a bit sloppily written, so I will adjust it. The new version is softer on the arm for sure, even if the denser string pattern makes the string bed feel stiffer. Not sure if that makes sense, but players usually respond to dense string beds because the less give they have makes them feel firmer. Both racquets are good, go 2019 for more power, and go 2023 for more control.

Hi! I recently played with a areo prodrive GT (whatever the 2013 model was, black with the red in the middle) and I loved it! I tried the 2016 and 2019 pure aeros but they did not suit me at all. So now I’m looking for the 2013 frame, would you say the 2023 is close to that one? As I understand it’s basically a throwback to that model?

I’ve played with the 2013 GT French open for the past 3 years and I absolutely love it. I think that’s the model you are talking about. I’m looking to get a 2023 to preserve the 2013 as sometimes it’s hard to find. But it is very likely you can get lucky on eBay. I’ll come back to this if I grab the 2023

Is impending fatherhood the only thing stopping Scottie Scheffler? Quite possibly.

His historic run continued Monday when he completed his victory at the RBC Heritage. It was his fourth win in his past five starts, a run that also included victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, THE PLAYERS Championship and the Masters. The only exception was a runner-up finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, where he missed a 6-footer to join Stephan Jaeger in a playoff.

Scottie Scheffler’s Round 4 highlights From RBC Heritage

Scheffler has seemed invincible lately, and the statistics confirm that. Here’s a closer look at some of the key stats that put Scheffler’s historic play into perspective:

• By winning at Harbour Town Golf Links, Scheffler became the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the RBC Heritage one week after winning the Masters .
• Scheffler is the first player since Tiger Woods in 2006 to win the week after winning a major .
• With four wins and a runner-up in his past five starts, Scheffler is the first player since Woods in 2007-08 to have five consecutive top-two finishes . Vijay Singh is the only other player to have such a run in the past 30 years (2004).
• This was Scheffler’s 10th PGA TOUR victory, coming in just his 51st start since he earned his first win at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open. Only David Duval has needed fewer starts after his first win to reach victory No. 10. Duval did it in 33 starts. Tiger Woods is third on the list with 59 starts.
• In his 51 starts since the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, Scheffler also has 23 top-three finishes (45%) and 35 top-10s (68.6%).
• All 10 of Scheffler’s wins have come since the start of the 2021-22 season. He is the first player to win 10 (or more) times on the PGA TOUR in the span of three seasons since Dustin Johnson won 10 titles between 2015-16 and 2017-18.
• This is Scheffler’s fourth win of the season, matching his career-high from 2022. He is the fourth player with multiple four-win seasons since the start of 2000 , joining Woods (10), Singh, (3) and Phil Mickelson (2).
• Scheffler has now recorded 40 consecutive TOUR rounds at par or better , a streak that began in the final round of the 2023 TOUR Championship. He’s 12 back of Woods’ all-time TOUR mark of 52 straight rounds at par or better (set across 2000-01).
• In each of Scheffler’s last seven victories, eight or more of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking have been in the field . His most recent run of four wins in five starts has included two Signature Events (Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, RBC Heritage), THE PLAYERS and the Masters.
• Scheffler is averaging 5.38 birdies per round this season, on pace to set the all-time TOUR record for single-season birdie average (since the statistic was first tracked in 1980) . Woods set the current record (4.92) in 2020.
• In his 39 rounds this season, he has outperformed the field average 35 times . He’s been at least a shot better than the field 30 times, at least two shots better 26 times and at least three shots better 19 times.
• Scheffler leads the TOUR in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green by nearly a shot per round this season , after finishing atop the category by more than two-thirds of a stroke per round last season. No player had previously led the category by more than four-tenths of a stroke per round since Woods in 2009.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour took over Houston in 2023. Can The Rolling Stones top it?

T he Rolling Stones tour is set to make a stop at NRG Stadium Sunday for the band’s first Houston concert since 2019. The performance comes on the heels of an album release by another music legend — Taylor Swift — whose three-day stop in Houston one year ago received shows of appreciation from fans and elected officials alike.

With the Stones' Hackney Diamonds Tour underway and Swift's 11th studio album , "The Tortured Poets Department,” that dropped last week, both music industry icons maintain dedicated fanbases worldwide. 

The 1960s rock n' roll band has been performing for decades. The Stones hold a record for drawing one of the largest crowds in rock n’ roll history during a show in Rio de Janeiro , with 1.5 million people, PBS reported. Swift is no stranger to large crowds either, with one of her shows in Melbourne seeing more than 96,000 people, according to Deadline. 

However, both music artists made their mark in Houston during their most recent concerts: the Stones' No Filter Tour in 2019 and Swift's Eras Tour in 2023. The success of their concerts highlighted their strong fanbases in the Bayou City.

How did the city react to The Rolling Stones' 2019 concert?

Excited fans first caught on to the Rolling Stones’ planned 2019 Houston concert when NRG Park teased the tour stop in an email. Park officials sent an email to subscribers with the band's logo at the end of the email and no further explanation.

The 2019 show would be the Stones’ first Houston appearance in more than 10 years. The group even teamed up with the NFL for a Houston Texans—Rolling Stones jersey.

NRG Stadium officials said the venue is happy to have the band back any time.

"We're thrilled to host the legendary Rolling Stones at NRG Stadium as the first stop on their Hackney Diamonds Tour. As Mick Jagger might say, 'Start me up' – and what better place to kick off this iconic tour than right here in Houston? We look forward to welcoming fans from near and far to enjoy a night of timeless rock 'n' roll classics. Get ready to rock the night away at NRG Stadium!" stadium officials said in a statement.

A marketing campaign was launched to temporarily rename NRG Stadium to "NRG Stadium - Taylor's Version," initiated by NRG Park and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's office. Banners were placed with the temporary name on the stadium's north and south entrances.

The City Hall also honored Swift and her mother, a University of Houston alum, by lighting the building in a “lavender haze.”

The organization Houston First found that the hotel market revenue during the Stones’ concert was $16 million between July 26-28, 2019. The occupancy was about 64%.

The impact of Taylor Swift's three-day tour in Houston wasn't only shown through the name change at NRG Stadium, but also in the economic impact.  

Her tour happened the same weekend as a large convention downtown which likely contributed to the boost in Houston’s market, according to Houston First. Still, the organization found that the hotel market revenue was a whopping $34 million between April 21-23, 2023, which was a 30% increase from the same three days in 2022. The occupancy was about 78%.

True crime podcasts are popular in the U.S., particularly among women and those with less formal education

True crime stands out as the most common topic of top-ranked podcasts in the United States, according to a new Pew Research Center study . So who, exactly, listens to true crime podcasts?

Pew Research Center conducted this analysis to explore U.S. adults’ views of and experiences with podcasts as a part of the news and information landscape.

To examine the ways Americans get news and information in a digital age, the Center surveyed 5,132 U.S. adults from Dec. 5 to 11, 2022. Everyone who completed the survey is a member of the Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP), an online survey panel that is recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses. This way nearly all U.S. adults have a chance of selection. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories. Read more about the  ATP’s methodology .

In the questionnaire, U.S. adults who said they are currently listening to at least one podcast were asked in an open-ended question to write in the name of the podcast that they listen to most. If respondents answered with the names of more than one podcast, only the first one was coded. In total, 1,563 open-end responses were coded.

Here are  the questions used  in the survey, along with responses, and  its methodology .

As part of the study, the Center also took a close look at key characteristics of top-ranked podcasts. Researchers identified these top podcasts by analyzing daily lists of the top 200 podcasts on Apple Podcasts and Spotify from April 1 to Sept. 30, 2022. The average chart position of each podcast that appeared on either list was calculated, and the top 300 podcasts from each site were included as top podcasts. Researchers identified 451 top podcasts by combining these lists so that podcasts that were among the top 300 on both sites were not counted twice.

A team of trained researchers then analyzed these 451 podcasts to determine podcast affiliation, topic, format and other key characteristics of each podcast. Additional data on episode length and frequency was analyzed after collecting data on all episodes published in 2022 through the Spotify and Apple Podcasts application programming interface.

This is the latest analysis in Pew Research Center’s ongoing investigation of the state of news, information and journalism in the digital age, a research program funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts, with generous support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Overall, 34% of U.S. adults who have listened to a podcast in the past year say they regularly listen to podcasts about true crime, according to a 2022 Center survey . But some demographic groups are more likely than others to do so:

• Among U.S. podcast listeners, women are almost twice as likely as men to regularly listen to true crime podcasts (44% vs. 23%).
• Podcast listeners with less formal education are more likely than those with higher levels of education to listen to shows about true crime. Looking at podcast listeners who have a high school diploma or less, 45% regularly listen to true crime podcasts. A third of podcast listeners with some college education say the same, as do 27% of those who have at least a bachelor’s degree. This pattern persists even when accounting for age.
• While women are more likely to listen to true crime podcasts overall, women with lower levels of formal education are the most likely to do so. A majority (57%) of women with a high school diploma or less say they regularly listen to true crime podcasts, compared with 34% of men with the same education level and 36% of women with a college degree.
• Younger podcast listeners are more likely than the oldest listeners to report tuning in to shows about true crime. Among U.S. podcast listeners ages 18 to 29, 41% regularly listen to true crime podcasts. This compares with 15% of listeners ages 65 and older.

The Center’s new study finds that true crime is the most common topic among top-ranked podcasts – defined as those with the highest average daily rankings on Apple’s and Spotify’s lists of top podcasts in a six-month period in 2022. Almost a quarter (24%) of these top podcasts are primarily about true crime.

True crime podcasts are often investigations into murders, scandals and other criminal events. Serial, which helped to popularize the genre , is a series that provides in-depth investigations into particular crimes or events. Due to its popularity, Serial is often credited for drawing national attention to the conviction of Adnan Syed.

Other top-ranked podcasts in this genre include 20/20, Crime Junkie, Dateline NBC, and My Favorite Murder. Crime Junkie and Dateline NBC are among the most popular podcasts cited by podcast listeners who gave a name for the show they tune in to most – 1% named each of these podcasts.

While true crime is the most common topic among top-ranked podcasts, it is not the most popular topic Americans report listening to, according to the Center’s recent survey . About a third of podcast listeners in the United States (34%) say they regularly listen to podcasts about true crime.

Other topics – such as comedy (47%) and entertainment, pop culture and the arts (46%) – are more popular than true crime.

While the Center’s survey did not specifically ask why podcast listeners turn to specific topics such as true crime, we can look at the reasons that people said they listen to podcasts in general – and among those who said the podcast they listen to most is true crime.

Of those who said their main podcast is about true crime, the most common major reasons for listening were for entertainment (85%) and to have something to listen to while doing something else (84%). They were less likely to cite reasons like learning, hearing other people’s opinions, or staying up to date about current events.
