The hotels used on this tour include carefully selected three- and four-star lodges on safari, and a five-star hotel in Nairobi. Rooms will have private bathrooms, telephones and TV. There will always be a bar or restaurant on site.

Small-group tours

Group sizes on each departure of this tour are restricted to a maximum of 24 people. The usual group size is between 16 and 20, with most travel undertaken in smaller six-seater vehicles meaning you can enjoy experiences and encounters (and in some cases even stay in wonderful little places) that are denied to larger groups.

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. Should you have walking difficulties, getting around monuments and attractions may be harder and, in some cases, impossible. Should you have any concerns whatsoever please do contact us prior to travel.

Travel vaccinations

Requirements and advice can vary over time, and from person to person, so please contact your GP about eight weeks before your trip to check whether you need any vaccinations or any other preventive measures.

Changes to your hotels

Road Conditions

In developing countries road networks are continually being improved and expanded, which can mean that, from time to time, roadworks and rough road surfaces can extend journey times. Some journeys are made on winding mountain roads and passes, which may also make for slow travelling - although the scenery is usually worth it! Many roads do not have separate pavements or safety barriers, and great care should be taken when crossing or walking alongside roads.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

The Great Migration

Why not coincide your safari with the annual Great Migration, which sees the largest mass movement of mammals on Earth, travelling from Tanzania to Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve and back again? Witness over one million stampeding wildebeest and other wild animals make the journey, which usually can be seen in the Maasai Mara from July to September. Prices naturally increase at this time, but the spectacle is more than worth it.

A safari in Kenya is an intoxicating blend for those after a real adventure. Expect sensational wildlife and wilderness, as well as wildly stylish camps and bush homes, a huge range of activities and a high degree of flexibility and freedom.

The Kenyans practically invented the concept of safari; today’s best guides were yesterday’s barefoot bush-kids, so their knowledge is rooted in a muddy-kneed, dirt-on-hands level of personal experience. Consequently, the best safaris offer a relaxed authenticity that other countries struggle to match.

The country is blessed with some of Africa’s best wildlife as well as some of its most photogenic scenery, however in the past it struggled to shake off its reputation for nose-to-tail traffic jams of tour buses. So our focus is all about showing you the other side of this sensational country. Places like the Laikipia Plateau, the conservancies on the fringes of the Masai Mara or the Matthews Range where tourists are a rarity.

The Masai Mara is still one of the best game experiences you could hope to have. Aside from the undeniably spectacular prospect of seeing tens of thousands of wildebeest brave the crocodiles as they cross the Mara river en masse, the Mara has a huge variety of wildlife including lion, cheetah and leopard.

However, the Mara has seen a lot of development over the past 15 years, so you should choose carefully where to go. Community conservancies now provide an important buffer to the reserve itself and these are often the best places to find small, authentic camps in beautiful areas, far from the busier game routes.

Away from the Mara, stretching from the slopes of Mount Kenya to the rim of the Great Rift Valley, the Laikipia Plateau harbours an abundance of wildlife and a fine collection of eccentric lodgings. Days spent on Laikipia are a strikingly different experience to the rest of east or southern Africa. First and foremost it is made up of a patchwork of independent working ranches, rather than being a conventional National Park, and therefore the rules or, more likely, the lack of them, are down to your hosts.

The sense of liberation is palpable here. While in a National Park it may not be possible to walk, travel in an open vehicle, use a spotlight at night, ride a horse, bike or camel – it’s all possible here. Add to this the sensational wildlife, which includes the Big Five (there are eight separate rhino sanctuaries) and arguably the best place on the continent to track wild dog.

Best Time To Visit Kenya

Wildlife spectacles abound in kenya’s dry season.

Like much of the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa the conventional wisdom applies to Kenya; to see most, travel in the long dry season between June and October.

This is when wildlife concentrates around remaining water sources becoming more plentiful and easier to see. The wildebeest migration usually arrives in the Masai Mara from the Serengeti and the Loita Hills in late July, bringing drama on an unprecedented scale as hundreds of thousands of wildebeest cross the Mara and Talek rivers, braving vast crocodiles.

If you want to head to Kenya’s coast during the dry safari season, your best bet is to visit between late July and October. March and April tend to be the hottest times, while the seasonal rains arrive between late April and early July with short rains in late October to November.

Beat the crowds during Kenya’s green season

Don’t ignore the green season between December and May – wildlife remains outstanding, there are few tourists and the bush turns a lush green, alive with the extravagant plumage and sounds of breeding birdlife.

Some areas like the Chyulu Hills are arguably at their best once the rains have come. Canny travellers can pick up a combination of low season rates and few other tourists by travelling in low and shoulder seasons.

It’s also a great time to head to the Kenyan coast for some rest and recuperation. The Kenyan coast offers white sandy beaches and turquoise waters to rival anywhere in Africa, so makes a great addition to any safari. It’s at its best between late November and March.

What is the best safari in kenya.

We believe the key to an epic safari in Kenya is getting away from the crowds. Kenya is one of the best wildlife viewing destinations in the world, so naturally tourists flock here. However, being among so many other people can seriously devalue the authenticity of your experience.

We champion the lesser-visited parts of the country, like the Laikipia Plateau, the conservancies on the fringes of the Masai Mara or the Matthews Range where tourists are a rarity.

To really get a tangible sense of freedom, we recommend visiting the Laikipia Plateau. Rather than being a conventional National Park, this area is made up of a collection of independent working ranches. This means less rules, and more possibilities for exploration. Staying in Laikipia often leaves the impression that you have visited friends – family hounds might join you on game-drives and a swim in the river might replace the more common-or-garden siesta.

Refreshingly in northern Kenya, man and wildlife do merge. While there are undoubtedly challenges, if there is a model whereby traditional pastoralists, commercial farmers and wildlife can all coexist, this is it.

How long should I spend on safari in Kenya?

This all depends on what you’d like to see and how many areas you’d like to visit. Ideally we’d recommend a minimum of seven to nine days in the game-rich areas. This gives you a good chance of encountering the animals you’re hoping to see and also the time to visit a few, very different, parts of Kenya. 

It’s also important to factor in some recovery time. If this is your first time on safari, you may be surprised how long and tiring the days can be. Activities tend to start early in the morning as this is the coolest time of day. To make sure you don’t burnout, we always recommend having some downtime, perhaps even adding on a trip to Kenya’s idyllic coastline for some recuperation at the end of the trip.

Not only is Kenya a great destination for first-time safari-goers, it’s also an exceptional location for families. Away from the lure of Xbox, YouTube and social media, children can reconnect with nature, immersed in the wilderness with nothing but incredible landscapes and fascinating wildlife.

There are so many experiences that will inspire young ones, and arguably more importantly, keep them entertained.

Explore Andalucia by small boat.

I was attracted to this tour by the name, the small boats. I enjoyed the boats. Day trips enjoyable and free days to explore locally appreciated. Good hotel not far from the centre. The tour was greatly enhanced by our brilliant tour manager, Jude Mahon. Every trip went efficiently and smoothly. She went out of her way to help everyone in the group which included some with mobility issues. She gave 110% all week. AJK

Little Boats of Andalucia

Really enjoyed the Little Boats of Andalucia holiday. Interesting trips, good hotel and friendly Tour Manager, Jude, who went out of her way to help the less mobile. Not given 5 stars as there was very little of interest to see from the boats and limited choice of restaurants nearby if you chose not to eat in hotel. This was the first time this holiday had run but suggest it is retitled and the boat trips made as optional extras.

I phoned up as had one email to confirm full payment for a trip but paid for two at the same time, Michael was very helpful checking and letting me know all was okay plus sent me an email invoice which confirmed the second break was also paid for in full.Michael also let me know full details will be sent out a full week before the leaving date, all helpful info

I had a problem with online check-in

I had a problem with online check-in, so I rang Customer Services and spoke to Zee, who was extremely helpful. He told me what the problem was and was willing to do the online check in for me, print out the passes and send them to me. This wasn't possible as it is too early for the free check-in, but I was very pleased with his helpfulness and willingness to go the extra mile. Many thanks and great service!

Zoe who booked this for me over the telephone as the original lady Zee had provided incorrect information including the price and Zoe went through it all again and I ended up paying half of what was originally quoted and also offered a hotel at Heathrow which saved me having to do this separately. Couldn't have done more to help.

Brilliant service

We were guided through our booking by Zoe. Incredibly helpful, nothing too much trouble and very patient. It was perfect and managed to arrange two cruises in a very short time. Delighted!

Small Boats Tour of Andalucia

A superbly well-organised tour of outstanding landmarks in this beautiful province. Booking process easy. All links for airline seats and documents arrived very promptly. But the best was yet to come. Our excellent tour manager, Jude, performed miracles in tirelessly guiding us around Jerez, Seville, Donana national park, Cadiz and Rota, always with a smile. This tour packed in a huge amount of activity, and the boating element was a bonus thanks to perfect weather throughout. Too many highlights to detail, but the happy memories will linger long, thanks to Jude, ably aided by local guide, Anna.

Expensive & awful customer service

Awful customer service. I was told the person I’d spoken to would get back to me. I prompted a communication via the women who did answer the phone but it was obvious Kelly would never call back- despite saying she’d get back to me. If you’re a singleton, avoid this company like the plague. For some reason Newmarket thinks it’s acceptable to charge an extra £700 for 7 nights stay in premier Inn type hotels. Hotels which charge by the room, not number of occupants. When I complained about this, I was told to get someone to travel as a couple! Where would I find someone to suddenly make a couple? Tinder!? Made absolutely no sense AND it was massively insulting. I was tearful about this exchange.

I first used Newmarket holidays about 20 years ago and have just found them again, nice surprise to see they have survived where others have gone bust. After some info on website would not be accepted, I requested a call back. Sharon called me within 30 seconds, explained the reason and offered to book while on phone. As the holiday is in 11 weeks, I had to pay full balance, so I had to ring back after a quick move around of funds. Sharon answered the call again and finished the booking. So nice to have a cheerful voice at the end of the phone, very helpful too and I can't wait to compare the organisation of this holiday compared to our holidays with Newmarket all those years ago.

Galway, Connemara and Irelands Stunning West

The guide Carmel and the driver Martin were outstanding. A great double act; informative with wit and great sense of humour. The choices for the tour venues couldn’t have been better. A lot was packed into each day.Our only slight criticism is of the quality and lack of variation of food choices in our hotel.
