Lee Na-young takes day trips in Park Ha-kyung’s Travels

By lovepark.

park ha kyung travel

The first teaser for the upcoming slice-of-life drama Park Ha-kyung’s Travels starring Lee Na-young ( Romance is a Bonus Boook ) just dropped, and from its soft colors and atmospheric tone, it looks to be a cozy watch. The teaser centers around high school language arts teacher Park Ha-kyung (Lee Na-young) who finds herself lecturing to a classroom full of bored students more interested in their phones than her lesson. After a frustrating call with her father, Ha-kyung wishes she could disappear, so instead, she departs on a one-day trip.

Her goals for these excursions are simple: walk, eat, and daydream. We catch glimpses of Ha-kyung’s activities as she narrates, “If I don’t go anywhere, I don’t think I could stand it, but at the same time, I want to do nothing.”

The omnibus drama will focus on different people Ha-kyung meets on her travels, highlighting old and new relationships as well as different locales across Korea. The drama boasts an impressive cast of special appearances, and with Lee Na-young at the helm guiding this story, we are definitely in for a treat.

From the teaser, we see her enjoying tea with Seo Hyun-woo ( Behind Every Star ), marveling in a museum with Gil Hae-yeon ( Strangers Again ), sniffing pinecones with Sunwoo Jung-ah , crossing paths with Gu Kyo-hwan ( D.P. ), visiting an art gallery with Han Ye-ri ( Hometown ), sharing a secret with Jo Hyun-chul ( Inspector Koo ), and nodding along with Shim Eun-kyung ( Money Game ).

Breaking the typical drama format, Park Ha-kyung’s Travels is slated for 8 episodes with an approximate 25-minute runtime for each. Hopefully the director’s choice to break the mold will result in a cute and contemplative story about people, place, and healing.

Directed by Lee Jong-pil ( Samjin Company English Class ) and written by Sohn Mi ( Samjin Company English Class ), Park Ha-kyung’s Travels will premiere on May 24 on Wavve.

The stylised or blunt bob also makes me think of Amélie Poulin’s and Yumi’s hairstyles. It’s quite a commitment for the actors who don’t normally style their hair this way!

Awww. I am liking what I am seeing. And the format is perfect. I like that we get to see different locales of Korea. Also, it’s Short and sweet so wouldn’t suffer from unnecessary plots.

I don’t particularly care for her hair.

I want to see it because this is the opposite of me who doesn't travel well, so the hassle of travelling offsets any joy I may find from 'being there'. If only I could be anesthetized and wake up at my destination.

This gives me very slice-of-life vibes, kind of in the style/vein of how they do slice-of-life in Japan. I'm very interested in watching this one.

Lee Na Young Confirmed To Lead Upcoming Wavve Drama

https://www.jazminemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Lee-Na-Young-1.jpg

Wavve has cast Lee Na Young as the heroine of the original drama “Park Ha Kyung Travel Log” (tentative title).

On September 15, Wavve said, “’Park Ha Kyung’s Travel Log,’ directed by Lee Jong Pil from the movie ‘Samjin Company English Class,’ has cast Lee Na Young as the main character Park Ha Kyung and started preparing for the shooting in earnest.”

“Park Ha Kyung Travel Log,” is a 25-minute duration series of 8 episodes, is a drama that depicts the journey of Korean language teacher Park Ha Kyung, who finds comfort and empathy by walking, eating, and meeting up with people on a day-long trip every Saturday.

Park Ha Kyung, a high school Korean language teacher, goes on a one-day, Saturday trip, the moment she feels like she wants to disappear from someone’s life. Park Ha Kyung, the main character who has a reason for “leaving” that anyone can sympathize with, walks into the magic created by travel as her feet and mind lead her to go crazy or escape from her daily life that doesn’t go her way.

In particular, this marks actress Lee Na Young first drama since “Romance Is A Bonus Book.”

“Park Ha Kyung Travel Log” will feature eight trips across the country, and will air in October.

Are you excited about this drama?

i often choose movies or dramas where the main character leaves the suffocating bustle of the city life to settle in a quiet, quaint, and lovely countryside and try to begin again there. i will admit, those stories have fueled my desire to just uproot myself; that escaping is something i can just do in a split second, and all will turn out all right.

real life, however, is not so kind so as to have everything turn out as perfectly as those stories. there are so many we can never abandon, because of how deeply intertwined they are with our lives, how deeply they color who we are—museums and parks and old school playgrounds and tea shops and sidewalk…

Time slot : Wednesdays Broadcaster : Wavve Genre : Slice-of-life, travel Episode count : 8

Reasons to watch : The promos, form, and vibe of this little drama remind me a lot of an old favorite Cheers To Me , so I’m looking forward to following our heroine on her day trips. Lee Na-young plays a burned out teacher that starts going on little trips around the country to recharge and refuel herself. Because of the drama’s omnibus form, it’s obviously ripe for great guest appearances — so on each trip our heroine will interact with everyone from Seo Hyun-woo and Gil Hae-yeon to Gu Kyo-hwan and Han Ye-ri.

In a summer drama cycle that’s brimming with “louder” dramas — anticipated adaptations, high-buzz horror, and big budget rom-coms — this little drama might be the perfect balance.

TL;DR : Short-form slice-of-life drama chock full of cameos and thoughts on life

One Day Off: Episodes 1-4 (Series Review)

By dramaddictally.

Beautiful, brilliant, and bothersome, the first four episodes of One Day Off take us on a journey through contemporary life — and the reasons we need a break from it. Lee Na-young is masterful as the solo traveler who will lead us to a mirror, so we can catch a glimpse of ourselves.

EPISODES 1-4

I have nothing but praise for this show. And I’m tempted to just run through it, scene by scene, and give away every morsel of detail. But what would be the fun in that when the truth is, you need to see it for yourself to truly experience it.

To set the context, we’ve got a single woman, age not specified (but I’d say, late 30’s, maybe 40), who teaches Korean literature at a high school and leads a somewhat dull existence. When her students peer out the windows of the classroom, dreaming of escape, our heroine stands at the front of the class and does exactly the same.

She tells us that in late 19th century France, there was a psychiatric condition known as “dromomania,” which was characterized by an uncontrollable urge to wander. People left behind jobs and families and just took off, in a kind of “pathological tourism.” But, she asks, was it really madness that caused them to travel? Or was it the dread of going mad in their daily lives that made them leave?

The woman behind these words is PARK HA-KYUNG ( Lee Na-young ), and she begins each episode by restating a simple premise: “When longing to disappear, I take one-day trips. I walk, eat, and let my mind wander.” From there, each episode is bracketed in its own story, with new characters and encounters. And yet, as the episodes pile up, a continuity starts to develop.

We begin with a trip to a mountain-top temple, where Ha-kyung learns how to practice meditation. They take all the smartphones away and everyone sits crossed legged on the floor in front of a panoramic vista. Ha-kyung tries to count to ten, but is distracted by her thoughts, again and again, and has to keep starting over. It’s here that we learn what kind of show this will be as we gain access to our heroine’s inner monologue, following her thoughts moment to moment.

In this first day trip, she meets a few others at the temple, but most are spending a much longer, introspective stay. There’s a novelist ( Seo Hyun-woo ), who tries to get to know her, and a woman who’s practicing Noble Silence (meaning she’s taking a break from speaking for a while). This woman and Ha-kyung go walking through the wooded hills together, silently, communicating only to taste berries, sniff pine cones, listen to birds, and finally view an incredible sunset.

The drama knows when to take its time and direct our attention to what it’s trying to tell us, which is something different in each episode. At the temple, the camera lingers on natural details (bugs, leaves, light, rocks) and we focus on Ha-kyung’s thoughts. At one point — in the absence of her phone — she thinks, “We always want a new place. Once that place is reached, there’s a relentless pursuit of another. We’re bound to get lost that way.” And in this context, it seems to be a comment on the distractedness of contemporary life, as we jump from screen to screen.

While the first episode has a light and airy feel, the tone of each episode is different and, once we reach the mid-section, it’s not an easy, breezy show. The second excursion takes us to a small town where one of Ha-kyung’s former students, KIM YEON-JOO ( Han Ye-ri ), is trying to make it as an artist. This is the most comical of the four installments, but there is something dark underneath as we see a group of young entrepreneurial creatives, pretending to be friends but really existing in a shark tank together.

Yeon-joo is a painter, poet, and performance artist, and by all accounts her work isn’t good. She’s fidgety and insecure and wants desperately to be liked. And this is really the theme of this episode as it explores these young people who are so representative of our times. There’s a genius joke when Ha-kyung is introduced to a content creator and he says, “Like and subscribe to my videos.” And she responds, “Yes, I’ll like them if I like them.” (Do I detect a little Zen in that?)

OneDayOff1-4_6.jpg

more https://www.dramabeans.com/2023/05/one-day-off-episodes-1-4-series-review/

Watched this series over the weekend.  I like it.

The 1st episode, I thought she would not make it out of the forrest due to the business of her mind.  LoL, then comes a person who practices silencing the inner noise to help guide her eventually back to safety.

The 2nd episode, was somewhat wacky in that the student turned artist was bad.  The content creator on the life a cats was pitiful with the constant request to “like his YT page”.  I felt badly for him too.  The kid asking his mother basically, “what is this”, had me asking the same question. LoL

Episode 3 had me hoping she would be found by love.  As wild were his movements so was the hectic pace to  romance between them.  The promise was not to be taken immediately as his inner pace and voice needed calming in-spite of wanting to be loved.  The fire of his message was quenched by the water of his actions that dampened his quest.  She was not on this quest or spoken it but was willing to immerse herself in it with him.  He did not give her time…LoL

The final 4th act was somewhat explosive.  Must be the age group.  There is something to learn from each age group and I am somewhat convinced he is right in that this generation would not survive what his generation did.  Can’t wait for more epis.

"One Day Off" Lee Na Young's Meaningful Challenge!

eYyALY_2f.jpg

As her chosen work after four years, One Day Off exudes its unique charm. Even though it may not be intense or provocative, One Day Off can captivate viewers effortlessly. With Lee Na Young 's presence, the appeal of this work shines even brighter. During an interview held on the 2nd in Sogeum-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, in commemoration of the public release of One Day Off   on the Wave platform, Lee Na Young explained her reason for choosing the drama, saying, "Rather than creating a framework and selecting works or having a gap period, I tend to focus solely on the script. One Day Off   felt simple and refreshing to me," and added, "I have also seen Director Lee Jong Pil 's previous works, so I was curious about his sensibility." One Day Off depicts the cheerful wanderings and unexpected encounters of Park Ha Kyung, a Korean language teacher who embarks on a one-day journey when she wants to disappear. It subtly captures the people she meets there and the small incidents between them. Although there are no major events, Park Ha Kyung's everyday life resonates with viewers, providing empathy, comfort, and enjoyment.

QJ24e2_2f.jpg

Portraying ordinary daily life without major events can be challenging for an actor. Lee Na Young expressed, "It was difficult; I didn't have the emotions to prepare. If I had emotional input, I would have grasped onto something, thought about it, and created an atmosphere, but I had to confront it on set." She further shared, "When I travel in reality, I tend to be more organized, but I felt a lot of freedom even without doing anything during the day trip. I realized that a day trip is fine," reflecting on her experience while filming One Day Off . One Day Off aligns with Lee Na Yung's preference with its modest enjoyment, touching moments, empathy, and healing. She stated, "Rather than watching something grand, I enjoy the feeling that arises unexpectedly while observing everyday life," and expressed her hope for the drama to be a piece that allows viewers to transition through their thoughts during contemplation.

One Day Off: Episodes 5-8 (Series Review)

Our solo traveler continues her day trips as One Day Off takes a more philosophical turn in its second half. It’s as beautiful and strange as ever, with a conclusion that attempts to give it greater meaning, but somehow makes it feel a little smaller.

With questions about time and perception underlying these episodes, I’ll start by saying that I think this should have been a single drop so we could watch all eight installments at one time. The first four episodes had a bigger effect on me, but it’s hard to know if it’s only because I’ve had a week to build them up in my head.

Still, there is a possibility that the break was purposeful because we’re grappling with different themes this week. Where the initial four episodes felt like a meditation on society and our place within it, this last half feels like it’s expanded into questions of the universe — and maybe that’s why we begin in a planetarium.

Like last week, each episode continues to tell a unique story and vary its visual storytelling methods. First up is Episode 5, which is told backward. It jumps around in time using the device of a VHS tape that’s rewound and then fast forwarded (in all its warped glory) to arrive at pertinent moments. The gist is that Ha-kyung has randomly met a woman while waiting in line for a restaurant, and she turns out to be GU YOUNG-SOOK ( Gil Hae-yeon ) — a children’s book author that Ha-kyung loved while growing up. The two decide to spend the day together and wind up at the local planetarium looking up at the stars.

Young-sook is flattered that Ha-kyung knows who she is but says that times have changed and no one is interested in old work like hers anymore. She then tells Ha-kyung an idea for a new story about the end of humanity — it runs on a time loop, so every day is doomsday on repeat. The result is that no matter how much the protagonist tries to fight it, the world always comes to an end. It’s at this point that our episode starts playing with time, just like in Young-sook’s story.

When Young-sook tells Ha-kyung about the bodily struggles of getting older, she notes that she was foolish to work so hard when she was younger, sacrificing her health for little pay. She doesn’t feel her work was worth it in the end. But Ha-kyung corrects her, saying that her life’s work was worth it because her books comforted Ha-kyung when she felt lonely and misunderstood. It seems to be a reminder that meaning and value can come from affecting even one person positively.

Episode 6 is maybe the strangest and most symbolic. It’s a rainy Saturday and Ha-kyung doesn’t travel far from home. She’s dealing with a crisis at work, where the parents of her students are all upset that the students have secretly organized online games, and they want the school to shut them down. Ha-kyung is torn between letting the students have their fun and following the school rules.

She wanders around (in what looks like a nightgown and rainboots) and ends up taking shelter from the downpour, aptly, at the Meteorological Museum. There she runs into a fellow teacher ( Jo Hyun-chul ) and they have a conversation about the difficulties of teaching, and how they can see the students’ perspectives more than the parents — maybe because they’re not parents themselves.
