Please Note - If you are cruising around Australia you need to select Pacific. With Regions, variances can apply for Bali, Indonesia, Japan and Middle East. You are not required to enter stop-over countries if your stop-over is less than 48 hours.

If you don’t know where you’re traveling to within the next 12 months, choose Worldwide to ensure you’re covered no matter where you go. If you’re travelling to multiple countries choose the region that you are visiting that is furthest away (excluding stopovers less than 48 hours). In most cases you will be covered for the closer regions as well. For example, if you choose Europe, you will also be covered in the Middle East, Asia and Pacific.

Worldwide means anywhere in the world

Americas means USA, Canada, South America, Latin America, Hawaii and the Caribbean

Europe means all European countries, including UK

Middle East refers to the area from Syria to Yemen; Egypt to Iran

Asia generally means Asia and the Indian subcontinent. For some insurers this excludes Japan*

Pacific means the South West Pacific, Australia and Indonesia/Bali*. Select Pacific for domestic cruises in New Zealand waters

New Zealand means domestic travel within New Zealand only

*Note: Variances apply for Bali, Indonesia, Japan and Middle East. Check that your destination is covered once directed to your chosen insurer’s site.

Have used them in 2019 and 2022 and although have not had to make any claims, was delayed in 2022 due to airlines, and SCTI were very helpful extending my insurance period without having to start over as others I was travelling with had to. Their prices are a great deal cheaper than at least 3 of the other "most popular" insurers. I went with them on recommendation from friends who used them and had to claim and said they were terrific. Wouldnt insure with anyone else for my travel.

I had to change flights within Australia due to Emirates temporarily suspending operations at some major airports in Australia, for "operational reasons" as per Emirates announcement. My claim for the additional cost of changing the flights was rejected by labelling Emirates’ decision as COVID-related. Well then currently anything and everything is COVID-related. This was an unexpected event as Emirates continued to operate throughout 2020. Please be mindful of this when buying a policy with SCTI. How convenient for a travel insurer nowadays to change policies and find excuses to reject claims. I would have expected a more sensible resolution of the matter.

I had purchased my insurance last year for a trip to South Korea in June. I rang up on March 6 to try and clarify how coronavirus impacts my travel insurance [I had originally asked this in late January but received no answer...]. I suggested to the call centre person that because coronavirus was an unexpected event I may be able to cancel my trip. I was advised that because the WHO had declared it a pandemic that I was not covered. SCTI took this decision as I was on the phone....I suggested that there was no actual information to indicate that on the WHO site No news organisations had reported this at this stage either... I was told that a link would be emailed to me that showed it being mentioned in a press conference - this did not happen. There was nothing on the SCTI website that said the WHO had declared it a pandemic. Appalling and questionable practices - will never use this company again.

Due to unexpected injury I had to cancel overseas holiday with only 3 weeks notice. I experienced excellent help, follow up and quick settlement. I had read all terms and conditions prior to purchase and provided all information, supporting documentation, doctors letters and so on as required. Any refunds due I had collected e.g. airline costs and hotel refunds where available. My family have used them several times. Based upon personal experience I certainly recommend them.

While we were on Holidays in India, My FIL (who was in India)passed away the day we had to travel, so we could not travel. The policy is excellent value. I have used SCTI for over 10 years and had excellent service. Great policies, great product, great value. Unfortunately this year when I really needed them they failed me. I made a claim for an ACL tear. They made a representation on the phone that surgery would be covered. Then whilst I was trying to get an answer from them they immediately went back on their promise, and told me I had 24 hours to get on a plane and be evacuated. This was despite the fact that this was not an emergency situation, I was on crutches, I could not pack in time or even locate my passport due to the injury. I also had a doctor's certificate to say that I could not fly for 6 weeks. They were extremely harrassing and stressful in a time that was already distressing and disturbing. Being injured overseas is extremely difficult. I even made complaints just simply requesting more time to sort out things and seek opinions about surgery and whether I could fly. SCTI were not flexible at all and simply said they would cut off my cover if I did not do what they wanted despite the fact that I was concerned about injuring myself further with preparing to leave so soon. I was not even given the option to manage my injury conservatively and continue my trip. I had expected better from SCTI and will never be using them again. I have received much better treatment, service and policies from other travel insurance companies.

How many people can I include in my policy?

You can purchase a policy online to include up to two adults and nine children.

Am I covered if I go on a cruise?

Yes, our policy automatically covers you if you’re a fare paying passenger aboard a cruise ship. You can also purchase a TravelCare policy if the cruise is travelling around Australia as part of your international itinerary. For example, the cruise ship departs Auckland and travels around the North Island of New Zealand, then on to Australia, cruising around the coast. However, if your cruise ship is only travelling through Australian waters, you’re not eligible to purchase a TravelCare policy, as it covers international travel only.

Am I covered for skiing and snowboarding?

You have the option to select ‘Skiing and snowboarding cover’ during the application process. If you have selected this option, paid an extra premium, and have skiing and snowboarding cover confirmed on your Certificate of Insurance, then you will have cover (as long as you follow the terms and conditions in the policy).

Can I pay to reduce or cancel my excess?

Yes, you can choose to have a $0, $100 or $250 excess on your policy. The excess you select will be confirmed on your Certificate of Insurance.

What additional extras are there?

You can personalise your policy with options to: • Increase your luggage cover, up to $10,000 for any single item (with a maximum limit of $15,000 per journey) • Increase cover for cancellations or changes to your journey before you leave • Add specified personal items valued above $1,500 • Add ‘moped and motorbike cover’ • Add ‘skiing and snowboarding cover’

Am I covered if my tour company collapses?

No, SCTI doesn’t provide protection from insolvency.

I’m not an Australian resident- can I buy cover?

Yes, you can buy cover if you’re: • An Australian citizen or permanent resident • A New Zealand citizen or permanent resident • On a visa/permit which allows you to access all publicly funded health and disability services in Australia and is valid until after your end date of insurance

What size moped or motorbike am I covered to ride overseas?

You have the option to select ‘Moped and motorbike cover’ during the application process. If you have selected this option, paid an extra premium, and have moped and motorbike cover confirmed on your Certificate of Insurance, then you’ll be covered if you’re riding a bike of up to 200cc (as long as you follow the other terms and conditions in the policy).

How long is their single trip cover for?

A single trip policy can cover journeys that are up to 12 months in duration.

Can I extend my policy from overseas?

If you have a Single Trip policy, you can extend your policy by contacting SCTI directly. No extension will be granted once your 'End Date of insurance' has passed. If you have an Annual Multi-Trip policy, you’ll need to purchase a brand new policy as SCTI don’t currently offer extensions.

Do they cover for my rental vehicle excess?

Yes, for up to $5,000. You’re only insured for a standard model motor vehicle or motor home (designed to carry no more than eight people, including the driver). The vehicle must be rented from a licensed motor vehicle rental agency.

Useful to have, if you can afford it.

Have been with SX since I was a kid, on their Regular plan. Now that I have my own family and children - they are also on SX. The good thing is the third child free but in reality health care is free for children under 14. So probably didn't need to cover them until they were teenagers. At least all their pre-existing conditions will be covered. In terms of overall cost, you pay more the older you get which is understandable. But in terms of the plans cover for 80% of costs, it is restricted by the limts - so it isn't actually 80% for everything. Be warned if you want full cover, go for their wel-being plans instead.

1st holiday overseas

It’s the first time we went overseas, and we’ve purchased a travel insurance with SCTI because we’ve heard great reviews. Unfortunately, my daughter got sick during our holiday. So when I called SC, they were very prompt in accommodating us. They gave us the option to call the hospital instead, so we can focus on our daughter’s healing. They have also offered to cover medical bills while my daughter was admitted, but we have opted to claim it after discharge as we felt it was easier for us to do at that time. When my daughter was discharged, they have offered us to have an RN to monitor her progress, but we didn’t need it as we’re RNs anyway. During my daughter’s hospitalisation, they would call us everyday for an update, and we greatly appreciated that. We felt that we have been well looked after. Will definitely use SC for future travels.

I am currently in South Africa. My flight was cancelled due to the Dubai flooding. I attempted to contact SX by phone to discuss my predicament but the recorded message would not respond to button selection. Additionally I emailed southern cross to request information but more than 3 days later I have not had any response.

Southern Cross Insurance could be ok

Southern Cross Insurance seem to be ok, their prices are reasonable as long as you are honest with your illnesses before you travel. I have not made any claims so i cannot comment on what they would assist with or whether they would just take your money and run like so many insurance companies do, as i did not make a claim. Who knows they may be an honest company that would pay ot if there was a necessity. Try it and see it is like Russian Roulette, take your chances and hope for the best.

Peace of mind

We travelled to Mexico via the US, and had an excellent trip. However, we took a great deal of comfort from the fact that we had high quality travel and health cover from a reputable insurer that we have trusted in the past.

Competitive price and peace of mind

My travel insurance with SCT was very easy to set up and the price was very good. We are a family of 4 and the children were free, so even better. We were able to specify that one of us is diabetic. Fortunately we did not encounter any issues while traveling and therefore cannot review their claims process. But we went away with peace of mind that SCT had us covered. Will definitely use again for our next trip.

Date of experience : 18 April 2024

Easy to booktravel insurance

Easy to book, realistic price and list of inclusions. Had option to include cover of pre-existing conditions and jewelry etc. Was worth it for cover for hire car excess so we didn't need to pay high prices to bring the excess down. Good communications regarding policy. Recommend using SCTI. Plus 10% discount for being a member was nice.

Date of experience : 16 April 2024

They paid our claim without issue

We had a loss in the UK which totalled over 6k. We waited a long time once putting the claim in due to their backlog, 6 weeks or so.. but they paid out the claim and we are pleased with the overall experience. Thanks Southern Cross.

Good luck when you want to make a claim

Southern Cross was super fast and efficient at getting the money from the client, but good luck when you need to make an important claim or make a claim on time. Furthermore, don't even try to follow up; they simply don't care. Regardless of the urgency expressed by the client, and even if it's over the recommended timeframe provided by Southern Cross, they show no concern. It seems like Southern Cross doesn't prioritize client needs and will respond robotically if you follow up multiple times. They'll keep you on the phone for 70 minutes and put you on hold five times. If you try to escalate the issue, they'll tell you to wait for a call back within three working days. Even when you place a complaint, they respond politely but essentially dismissively, thanking you for raising the issue but insisting that their procedures are unchanged

Date of experience : 11 April 2024

Travel Insurance The ease of navigating my way through the online process of taking out my southern Cross policy for my recent 7 day holiday in Australia. Also the ease of paying for the policy with my credit card. The cost of the policy and the many options I was covered for made me relax and enjoy my trip in full.

Very happy with southern. Due to some problem, we have to stay extra 2 days oversea. When we contact southern, the response is very quick. After we answer the question, they extend the insurance without charging. We will always buy southern if we go overseas.

Used to be the best now struggle to be worst

I used to rate this company as the best there was but sadly not anymore. The number of hoops you need to jump through to make a claim is bordering on ridiculous and when i had to claim last year for a stolen iphone i was made to feel like a criminal. I will never use them again. plus it took them 6 weeks to process the claim.

Fair price and coverage

I research travel insurance every time a trip comes up and always end up choosing Southern Cross Travel. Their prices are fair and coverage appropriate. So far I've been lucky that I haven't needed to claim anything, therefore can't comment on that process.

No response from insurer

I had a dilemma in needing insurance for a holiday overseas that was going to start in Australia and finish back home in NZ … all the Australian insurance companies wouldn’t allow me, as a Kiwi, to get insurance in that capacity but when I rang Southern Cross they said no worries and bingo I peace of mind travel insurance. And then had to extend my stay but not problem… just emailed them and again bingo sorted!!

There when we needed them.

Were fantastic in telling us what we needed to do when our flight home was cancelled. This was on a Sunday that we contacted them, really helpful lady on the end of the phone and didn't have to wait long to talk to her.

Price Gouging

The premiums for domestic travel insurance in New Zealand are outrageously high - higher than they are for overseas travel, which makes no sense, particularly given that New Zealand has an ACC system that other countries don't, and our private medical costs are lower. Cannot see the justification for the premiums tht Southern Cross charges for domestic travel insurance

Cannot cover basic requirement expected from travel insurance

Costly and ineffective, providing no coverage for essential needs. It's simply a waste of time and money. My primary goal was to claim for my flight due to medical reasons, for which I purchased travel insurance. Unfortunately, they are unable to fulfil even the basic requirements expected from travel insurance. Do not recommend at all.

Bad decision ever to get SCTI

Very stupidest insurance provider. Takes 30+ days to process the claim and at the end declines the claims advising it was left unattended in a private area. Well, that's why we get the insurance so if unexpected things happens then we are covered but I would recommend everyone to AVOID SOUTHERN CROSS TRAVEL INSURANCE. Would not recommend them at all. Further to your reply “SOUTHERN CROSS”: I did asked for second review of my claim and was advised same that “you should have been more careful” well if that’s the case then what’s the point of getting Comprehensive insurance? When if someone steals my belongings because of minor mistake which is I left it inside closed cupboard on a private cabana but didn’t lock it as I was in hurry. Don’t we get the insurance for this sort of things???? I was given the option for complaint procedure and was advises at the same time that likely result of the complaint will be the same which is they will decline the claim. So I don’t wanna be bothered to the same thing over and over explaining stuff when you all just gonna rip off the money in premiums and decline the claim like I would have handled it more carefully.

Hi Nisarg. We're sorry to hear you're unhappy with our claim timeframes. The majority of our claims are assessed within 5 to 30 working days, but some take slightly longer when there is added complexity, any missing information or are submitted during our busier season. If you are unhappy with your outcome, feel free to let your assessor know and they will re-look at your claim, or they can enter you into our complaints process. Alternatively, you can email us at [email protected] and we can enter you. Take care - Maddie@SCTI.

Southern Cross - So many clauses - allows them to get away with everything!

I wanted to extend to another country on my overseas trip and found it easy to arrange an extension to my Southern Cross Travel insurance. As someone else said below this gave me peace of mind knowing I was covered for the the new location when it was added to our upcoming trip at no charge. However, that was very short lived because I then updated Southern Cross on a recent cancer diagnosis that had come after taking the insurance out. Anything that happens when we are away related to this will not be covered. Shocked I checked in with friends on social media. Horrified US and UK friends confirmed that this wouldn't be allowed over there and NZ friends were surprised. Personally, aside from being really worried about our forthcoming travels, I am peeved off at paying nearly $1000 for a pretty useless insurance policy but most of all I think Southern Cross are morally dishonest because they promote on their site they are a not for profit, that serves people and communities across NZ, with our focus on the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders. Well, frankly from what I've experienced - this is utter poppycock. The banks and insurance companies over here continue to take advantage of us and the law lets them get away with it! We need to start fighting back and start complaining, taking cases further with ombudsmen for insurance/advertising, badgering your MPs and telling our stories to the media. 19.3.24. Did as suggested below but not heard anything in three days!

I had to change my trip dates due to getting Covid and Southern Cross were great in allowing me to change my insurance cover without any hassles and making a note that I may make a claim. The only downside was the person I spoke with didn't advise me at the time if I was claiming I would need a PCR test or RAT test certified to do so - was too late when I discovered that, but luckily I didn't have to claim.

Once your cover is in place, you’re insured for an unlimited number of return journeys overseas, up to a maximum of 30, 60 or 90 days in length.

What’s covered by Southern Cross’s Domestic policy?

Although Kiwis don’t have to worry about medical bills at home, accidents and unforeseen events can still happen while holidaying in Aotearoa. Southern Cross’s Domestic policy covers:

  • Changes to your travel plans or cancellations
  • Luggage and personal items
  • Rental vehicle excess
  • Personal accident & liability

What’s covered by Southern Cross’s Working Overseas policy?

Southern Cross’s policy is designed for people who are temporarily living or working overseas, and those on working holidays. It offers the same levels of cover as the insurance company’s International Comprehensive policy.

Our Pick Of The Best Comprehensive Travel Insurance Providers In Australia

Published: Apr 2, 2024, 9:30am

Australians are well-known for their love of travel, with many of us eager to make up for years spent in lockdown with epic European vacations, winter breaks in Bali, or luxury cruises.

In fact, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ (ABS) revealed that travel activity in December 2022 was at the same level as February 2019, before lockdowns and Covid restrictions, and this trend has continued at this pace for much of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. Most recently, the ABS recorded some 1.3 million departures in January, an increase of 294,990 compared with January of 2023.

The ABS also noted that the number of trips for January 2024 was at the pre-Covid level in January 2019, and that travel across the ditch remains popular, with New Zealand still the leading destination for Australians returning from a short-term trip overseas (13%).

Key to peace of mind when travelling is adequate insurance, and it’s also paramount to find an insurance provider who will cover not only Covid-19 related claims, such as being diagnosed with Covid-19 while travelling or cancellations and delays due to Covid-19, but all of the other potential mishaps that could go wrong while overseas—whether it be missing a connecting flight, falling ill, event cancellation, theft or luggage going missing. Alarmingly, a recent study by Smartraveller and Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) found that one in six Australians are still travelling overseas without travel insurance, with younger travellers, those from lower-income households, and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds all more likely to travel without insurance.

To help Australians find the best option suitable for their needs, Forbes Advisor combed through the leading players to determine our pick of the best comprehensive travel insurance providers for those looking to travel overseas in 2024 and beyond. All insurers’ pds details have been fact-checked and are current as of March 2024.

Note: the below list represents a selection of our top category picks, as chosen by Forbes Advisor Australia’s editors and journalists. The information provided is purely factual and is not intended to imply any recommendation, opinion, or advice about a financial product. Not every product or provider in the marketplace has been reviewed, and the list below is not intended to be exhaustive nor replace your own research or independent financial advice. Travel Insurance Direct (Comprehensive)

Unlimited, with a $1000 limit to dental

Despite the WHO declaring the pandemic over, Covid continues to interrupt our travel plans, and compared with other policies, Travel Insurance Direct offers very thorough Covid-19 cover, including both medical expenses and trip cancellations. Furthermore, some 43 medical conditions are automatically covered, however, additional conditions are not considered.

Where the policy really stands out is in its coverage of a broad range of 93 activities, with travellers able to add on extra coverage for certain higher-risk activities, such as snow sports. Plus, there are more than 2,500 reviews of the policy on Product Review, with an average of 4.2 stars.

  • 93 sports and activities are automatically covered
  • Lost luggage coverage up to $12,000, with the ability to increase item limits
  • Online discounts are only available for multiple policies or group policies
  • Certain pre-existing medical conditions cannot be covered

Yes, overseas medical expenses related to Covid-19 are included in the unlimited medical cover, as well as additional travel expenses up to $2,500.

Cancellations due to Covid-19 are covered for you and travelling party.

Allianz (Comprehensive)

Unlimited, including dental

$2,000 is included, with the option to increase at a higher premium

Allianz has a generous medical policy, and unlike many competitors, includes unlimited coverage for both hospital and dental. The top-tier policy also covers pre-existing medical conditions, however, assessments are required and conditions need to be met. Some 38 activities are included and listed in the PDS, and there is no age limit to coverage.

There’s also the option to increase certain limits (luggage, cancellations, etc) for higher levels of coverage depending on the individual traveller’s needs.

  • All ages are covered
  • Dental is included in unlimited medical expenses
  • Personal liability cover does not include additional activity packs, such as snow.
  • No cover for missed connecting flights

Yes, Covid-19 is covered under medical expenses.

Cancellations due to Covid-19 are covered if the cancellation is due to a government-enforced border closure or due to the policy holder having to complete a quarantine due to Covid-19. As this is less of an issue these days, this policy feature is likely to be less important to travellers.

Bupa Travel Insurance (Comprehensive)

Bupa travel insurance is underwritten by Allianz, and its comprehensive travel insurance policy is almost identical to Allianz’s branded offering.

Along with unlimited medical, hospital and dental cover, Bupa offers 24/7 emergency assistance with Australian-based doctors and nurses available. As with Allianz, credit card fraud is covered up to $5,000 and lost luggage tops out at $10,000 (sub-limits apply). It’s worth noting, however, that Bupa scores slightly lower on Product Review—an average of 3.9 stars compared to Allianz’s 4.

  • 15% discount for Bupa health insurance policy holders
  • All pre-existing conditions need to be assessed to determine if they will be covered
  • Reviews state lengthy waits for claim payments

Cancellations due to Covid-19 are covered if the cancellation is due to a government-enforced border closure or due to the policy holder having to complete a quarantine. As this is less of an issue these days, this policy feature may not be as important to travellers.

InsureandGo (Comprehensive)

Unlimited, with a $500 limit to dental

InsureandGo is an ideal choice for families, with 90 activities included and the option to add additional extras, such as snow cover. Children are covered up to the age of 18 if they are travelling with parents or grandparents, and the maximum age for a policy-holder is 100 years old—although if you’re heading on a cruise the maximum age is 79.

Lost luggage is covered up to $15,000—sub limits apply—and there is unlimited cancellation cover.

The company’s comprehensive offering, known as Gold, was rated an average of 4 stars from more than 6,000 reviews.

  • Regular discounts with promo codes on Facebook page
  • Coverage up to 100 years
  • No credit card fraud coverage
  • Dental tops out at $500

Yes, overseas medical expenses related to Covid-19 are covered, as are cancellations for the policy holder and their travelling companions

insure4less (Comprehensive)

Yes, up to $7500 per person

Insure4less offers policyholders coverage for a wide range of activities—more than 120 are listed in PDS—while additional, high-risk sports can also be added. The comprehensive policy, known as Excel Plus, covers medical expenses of Covid-19, along with any additional expenses required for you to return early to Australia if necessary.

It also covers lost luggage up to $5,000 (sub limits apply), cancellations up to $7,500 per person, connecting flights up to $1,000 and personal liability up to $7.5 million—the latter of which is at the higher end of what is generally offered. Coverage for pre-existing medical conditions are subject to the completion of an online medical questionnaire.

  • More than 100 activities are included in the policy, with the option to add on additional cover for other high-risk activities such as snow cover for snowboarding and skiing
  • Unlimited medical
  • Luggage only covered up to $5,000

Mostly. Overseas medical expenses related to covid-19 are covered, as well as additional expenses for you to return early due to Covid if necessary. However, cancellations due to Covid are not covered.

Cover-More Travel Insurance (Comprehensive)

Cover-More’s travel insurance not only covers Covid-19 medical expenses overseas, but also provides $2,500 for additional related expenses. Lost luggage is also covered up to $15,000, as are dependent children up to 21 provided they are financially dependent and not in full-time employment.

Travellers up to 99 years of age can travel on the Cover-More policy, however senior travellers must meet certain criteria.

Despite these stand-out features, what prevented us from giving Cover-More a higher score was its negative reviews: it scored an average of 3.3 stars out of almost 3,000 reviews on Product Review. (Forbes Advisor pays little attention to reviews when there are fewer than 100, and always takes into account that reviews tend to skew negative).

  • Pregnancy is automatically covered for single-child pregnancy
  • $3,000 for connecting flights
  • Senior travellers need to meet acceptance criteria
  • No online discounts

Mostly. Covid-19 related medical expenses are covered, with additional expenses up to $2,500.

There is up to $5,000 for cancellations related to Covid-19, but only on the Comprehensive Plus policy.

1Cover (Comprehensive)

Unlimited, but dependent on conditions

From more than 4500 reviews on Product Review, 1Cover has received an average rating of 4.3 stars by consumers.

The comprehensive policy covers more than 100 sports and activities, and includes the option to add additional packs for high-risk activities. The rest of the policy can also be personalised, allowing policyholders to add or increase cover to suit the traveller’s habits

Credit card fraud is covered up to $5,000, as is disruption of journey when the delay is for more than six hours.

  • Flexibility to add and increase cover to suit individual travellers
  • Pregnancy cover up to week 24 of the pregnancy
  • Travellers over the age of 80 incur a $3,000 excess
  • Dental limited to $1,000.

Partially. Medical expenses for Covid-19 are covered, but cancellations are not.

Unlimited, with a $1,000 limit to dental

Unlimited, but cancellation fees capped at $1,500 via travel agent

FastCover offers unlimited cover for both medical expenses and cancellations, however, it does require certain conditions to be met and has limits on specific claims. Some 43 conditions are covered provided the traveller meets the criteria.

While the policy offers good Covid-19 coverage, including listing Covid-19 as a medical expense and including it as a reason for cancellation, dental is capped at $1,000. Furthermore, lower coverage applies to travellers over the age of 80 and if you booked through a travel agent, cancellation cover tops out at $1,500.

  • Discounts available for more than one person
  • 43 pre-existing conditions are automatically covered
  • Some limitations on flight cancellation cover
  • Lower coverage amounts for senior travellers

Yes, overseas medical expenses due to Covid-19 are covered, as are cancellations for those named on the insurance certificate.

Qantas Travel Insurance (Comprehensive)

Qantas Comprehensive Travel Insurance offers unlimited medical expenses, including coverage for Covid-19 diagnoses. It also automatically covers 43 pre-existing medical conditions (pending certain criteria), but requires a medical assessment, in the form of an online form, for any conditions not listed.

There is unlimited cover for cancellations and missed connections, as well as coverage for emergency dental for acute pain of up to $2,500.  Note: the standard comprehensive policy is for those aged up to 69; there is a seperate policy for 70+ years.

Related: Our pick of the best travel insurance for seniors .

  • Lost luggage covered up to $15,000
  • Good Covid-19 cover
  • Some poor reviews albeit from a small number (257)
  • Fraudulent credit card activity is not covered

Yes, overseas medical expenses includes if you are diagnosed with Covid-19. Cancellations due to a positive Covid-19 diagnosis are also covered, as well as ‘reasonable’ additional expenses (such as if you are required to quarantine).

Australia Post (Comprehensive)

Australia Post’s Comprehensive Travel Insurance offers coverage for credit card fraud of up to $5,000, lost luggage insurance up to $12,000 (sub-limits apply on certain items) and no age limit on policies. There is unlimited emergency medical, which we would expect for a comprehensive policy, with a $2,000 limit for dental, which is also pretty good. There is no cover specifically for missed connections but there is cover for travel delay up to $2,000

However, cruises of more than two nights will not be covered and need to be added as an additional pack to the policy.

  • No age limit
  • Cover for travel delays pending certain conditions
  • Need to purchase an additional cruise pack if going on a cruise of longer than two nights
  • Only 15 activities included, with additional packs required to be purchased for snow sports and motorcycling

Partially. Covid-19 related medical expenses and additional expenses are are covered, but an additional excess applies. Cancellations due to Covid-19 are not covered, and there is no cover for claims arising from Covid-19 while travelling on a cruise.

To find our list of the top travel insurance providers, we performed an in-depth analysis of more than 30 of the most popular local travel insurance providers. This included an evaluation of their current product ratings online and reviews from previous customers; a comparison of necessary offerings; and in-depth research into their individual product disclosure statements (PDS).

Through the analysis, the following coverage offerings and conditions were compared:

  • Underwriter: an underwriter is the company which evaluates an applicant’s claim for approval and payment, and therefore should always be a reputable company;
  • The average product review rating: found via Australia’s independent consumer review site, Product Review, where policyholders rate their experience with the specific travel provider;
  • Conditions of age: including whether there is a maximum age cut-off to take out the policy, or whether children up to a certain age can be included with the main policy holder;
  • Coverage of personal liability, credit card fraud, car hire excess and lost luggage: including any additional fees, conditions, and value limits;
  • Medical cover, including dental, pregnancy and Covid-19: specifying what is included in the medical cover, any excess limits for dental, what weeks of pregnancy are covered (if any), and whether Covid-19 is included as a medical claim;
  • Whether cancellations, delays or connecting flights were covered: including whether cancellations due to COVID-19 are claimable and any conditions with travel delay coverage or connecting flights;
  • The inclusion of pre-existing medical conditions: from how many pre-existing medical conditions are included to whether there are conditions that need to be met, and any medication conditions that are automatically excluded;
  • The inclusion of sports and activities: how many sports and activities were included in the policy; any sports and activities that are not covered; the availability of additional packages to cover certain sports and activities (such as winter sports or cruises);
  • Emergency assistance and customer service: the availability of assistance and the level of customer service provided to a policyholder; and
  • Discounts: whether there were any online discounts available from the provider.

In all, there were 19 different variables we compared and considered to find the overall ranking of each comprehensive travel insurance provider. Rankings were then made between 1-5, with the leading providers–all ranked 3 and above–included in the best-of list.

You will note that we did not evaluate policies on the metric of price: this is because the cost of travel insurance is highly dependent on the circumstances, health, age and destination of the person travelling.

A Note on Star Rankings

You will note that we have included a star rating next to each product or provider. This rating was determined by the editorial team once all of the data points above were considered, and the pros and cons of each product attribute was reviewed. The star rating is solely the view of Forbes Advisor editorial staff. Commercial partners or advertisers have no bearing on the star rating or their inclusion on this list. Star ratings are only one factor to be considered, and Forbes Advisor encourages you to seek independent advice from an authorised financial adviser in relation to your own financial circumstances and investments before you decide to choose a particular financial product or service.

The rules surrounding travel are ever-changing as the Covid-19 pandemic continues. At the time of writing, you do not need to provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test to meet Australia’s travel requirements, nor do you need proof of a Covid-19 vaccination to travel to and from Australia.

Masks are also no longer necessary on international flights. However, as per the Australian government’s health and aged care department, Australians are still encouraged to consider wearing a mask to reduce potential risk.

The rules and regulations surrounding Covid-19 travel overseas vary by country and region. Before you travel, be sure to check your destination country’s local public health orders for Covid-19 vaccination requirements, and to see if there are any isolation or quarantine orders to abide by upon your arrival.

You can check the government’s Smartraveller Destination guide to find the latest updates for your destination, along with the Australian government’s advice for travelling to that destination.

The advice levels are: exercise normal safety precautions; exercise a high degree of caution; reconsider your need to travel; and do not travel. Smartraveller explains the level of advice in attribution to each destination and the reason for such, which could include terrorist threats, high levels of violent crime, security risks and/or health measures.

If you have, or have had, a medical condition, you may need to ensure your travel insurance has specialist coverage for pre-existing medical conditions. The same applies if you are recovering from serious injury.

Most Australian travel insurance providers do include a wide range of pre-existing medical conditions in their policies, such as cancer, heart problems, respiratory ailments, Crohn’s disease and diabetes. They can also include more common complaints such as asthma and hay-fever, as well as Covid-19.

For pre-existing medical conditions that aren’t automatically included, you may need to purchase extra coverage. To find out whether your condition is listed on the policy, you will need to read the travel insurance provider’s product disclosure statement. If your condition is not automatically included, it may still be covered upon meeting certain conditions or by undertaking a medical assessment.

Some conditions may never be covered by some providers and are excluded, even pending a medical assessment. Most often, these are pre-existing medical conditions that are the result of alcohol or drug dependency.

When comparing travel insurance providers, you’ll see many different policy types and therefore need to consider which best suits your needs. These policy types include:

  • Single cover: cover for an individual traveller
  • Family cover
  • Single trip: providing cover for one trip, for a specific destination over a fixed time
  • Annual multi-trip: designed for those planning to take more than two holidays or business trips a year to multiple destinations.
  • Worldwide: allowing you to travel to destinations across the globe, however certain high-risk areas or those that are expensive for medical cover may not be included

There are often ‘packs’ or ‘additional extras’ that can be added on to these standard policy types, to include specific activities or travel types. This includes cruise coverage, designed to provide cover for the activities and risks associated with cruise holidays; winter sports packs, designed to provide cover if you plan to take part in high-risk activities, such as skiing and snowboarding; or backpacker coverage, which covers individuals on longer trips overseas that may span numerous countries.

Those over 55 years old need to ensure the travel provider and insurance policy they choose includes their age. Some policies have a maximum age cut off, while others do not. Meanwhile, some policies may include all ages, but incur a higher premium for those aged over specific cut offs.

Seniors should also consider the level of cover provided for medical and hospital expenses. While accidents and illnesses can happen at any age, it is a fact of life that seniors are more susceptible.

When taking out an insurance policy–at any age–it is essential that you read the insurance provider’s PDS and ask to clarify any questions that you have, so that you can ensure you are covered in the way you expect to be if a claim does arise. You can read more in our pick of the best travel insurance for seniors.

What does most travel insurance cover?

When searching for travel insurance, it’s important to find a policy that suits your individual needs. Ideally a travel insurance policy will include medical cover, lost luggage cover, and other emergencies or accidents that may occur while you are overseas.

Insurance providers may have different limits or higher excess required for certain coverage, so it’s essential that you read the product disclosure statement before taking out a policy.

Which is the best travel insurance for over 70s?

Travel insurances often have a maximum age that they are willing to cover, largely due to the high-risk of elderly individuals. These cut-off ages vary by policy provider, and through our analysis, we found the providers that offered travel insurance for over 70s that was also highly regarded in other factors were Australia Post, Allianz, and InsureandGo. You can read more in our pick of the best travel insurance providers for seniors .

Which is the best travel insurance for Covid-19?

According to our analysis, the best Australian travel insurance with COVID-19 cover is Cover-More’s Comprehensive Travel Insurance Plan. The policy covers Covid-19- related medical expenses as included in its unlimited medical expenses cover, additional expenses up to $2500, and up to $5000 for cancellations related to Covid-19. Of course, this is a guide only, and we did not analyse all of the providers on the market, so you may find another Covid policy that is better suited to your needs.

Who is the best company for travel insurance?

It’s important to remember that rather than one travel insurance company being better than the other, you need to find the perfect match for you: if you’re over 65, then you will want a company that caters to seniors, if you are an adrenaline junky then you will want a company that offers generous activity coverage. In our analysis the following companies scored above-average ratings:

Is it worth buying travel insurance at the moment?

It’s always worth buying travel insurance, even if you don’t intend on undertaking any extreme sports or risky activities. Travel insurance will protect you if your flight is delayed or cancelled, you experience a medical emergency overseas or you lose your belongings. With so many providers on the market these days, competition is fierce so you can find reasonably priced travel insurance for as little as $2 a day in some cases.

The Department of Foreign Affairs Trade (DFAT) and Insurance Council of Australia’s (ICA) joint Travel Insurance Survey of 2023 found that one in six Australians were not covered by insurance on their most recent trip. The most common reason given for travelling without insurance was “travelling somewhere I knew I’d be safe” (29%), followed by “I wasn’t sure if it was needed” (27%) and “I just didn’t think of it” (25%).

What doesn't travel insurance cover?

Each policy is different so make sure that you read the product disclosure statement to determine whether you’re covered for Covid-related incidents or delays. As a general rule, however, you won’t be covered for mental health emergencies overseas or for incidents that occur when you are under the influence of drugs or heavy intoxication.

Is Allianz good travel insurance?

In our assessment, we found Allianz to have many positive features as a travel insurance provider, not least of which is the generous unlimited medical and dental in its comprehensive offer. While the company covers travellers for lost luggage, there is no cover for missed connecting flights.

Is Bupa good for travel insurance?

In our Forbes Advisor Australia assessment, Bupa’s comprehensive travel insurance is a solid choice. It is underwritten by Allianz, so its comprehensive travel insurance policy is almost identical to Allianz’s branded offering.

Along with unlimited medical, hospital and dental cover, Bupa offers 24/7 emergency assistance with Australian-based doctors and nurses.

How many days before should you buy travel insurance?

You should buy travel insurance as soon as you purchase your tickets, that way you are covered if your trip is cancelled. While there is cover available once you have left Australia, it is much more limiting than had you purchased insurance beforehand.

Understanding travel insurance for seniors

Before diving into the specifics, it's essential to understand what travel insurance is and why it's particularly important for senior travelers. The best travel insurance offers financial protection against unexpected events affecting your trip, such as trip cancellations, medical emergencies, or lost luggage.

Types of coverage

  • Medical Coverage: Ensures your medical expenses are covered in case of illness or injury.
  • Trip Cancellation/Interruption Coverage: Provides reimbursement if your trip is canceled or cut short due to unforeseen events.
  • Baggage Coverage: Covers loss, damage, or theft of personal items during your trip.

Benefits of travel insurance for seniors

  • Peace of Mind: Knowing you're covered in case of emergencies can make your travel stress-free.
  • Financial Protection: Shields you from potentially overwhelming medical costs and trip cancellations fees.
  • Assistance Services: Many plans offer 24/7 assistance services, providing help whenever and wherever you need it.

Making the most of your plan

After choosing a plan, it's crucial to understand your policy fully and know what services are available to you in case of an emergency.

Understanding your policy

  • Read the fine print and understand the claims process to avoid surprises.

Emergency assistance services

  • Familiarize yourself with the emergency assistance services offered by your plan and keep all necessary contact information handy.

How to pick senior travel insurance

It's wise to compare several different travel insurance policies for the best coverage and pricing, as premiums vary widely between insurers and depend on factors like your age and travel destination.

That said, some of the more essential coverages to look for if you're a senior citizen include:

  • Travel medical coverage - This coverage will pay for your medical bills outside the US.
  • Medical evacuation coverage - If you're injured or become sick while traveling, this coverage will transport you to the nearest hospital or even back home if your condition necessitates it.
  • Preexisting conditions - Coverage for known health conditions. You'll need to purchase travel insurance within a certain time period from when you book your trip to qualify for a preexisting condition waiver .
  • Cancel for any reason (CFAR) - The name says it all! It'll cost extra and you'll need to purchase insurance early, but it's the most comprehensive trip cancellation coverage you can get. Note that CFAR insurance usually only covers up to 75% of your trip fees.
  • Trip cancellation insurance - This coverage provides reimbursement for your prepaid and nonrefundable costs if you cannot make your trip due to an unforeseen event.
  • Baggage delay insurance - This coverage will reimburse you for essentials like toiletries and clothes if your bags are delayed.
  • Lost luggage insurance - This coverage will reimburse you up to a specified amount if your bags get lost en route.

Of these, the most critical to note are whether or not your policy covers preexisting conditions and the limits for travel medical insurance and emergency medical evacuation.

Some insurance companies offer a waiver that will cover preexisting conditions. You'll have to follow the requirements for adding a waiver to your policy, like insuring the entire cost of your trip. Or purchase the policy within a specific time after making your first trip deposit payments.

You'll also want to find a policy with high maximum limits for travel medical and emergency medical evacuation coverage. These types of expenses can be substantial, so you want to have appropriate coverage.

When comparing senior travel insurance options, we looked at the following factors to evaluate each travel insurance provider:

  • Coverage limits: We looked at each travel insurance company's coverage amounts for benefits like medical emergencies and trip cancellation.
  • Flexibility: We looked at how customizable a policy is, so you can choose what your travel insurance policy covers .
  • Coverage for preexisting conditions: Preexisting conditions are one of the more critical factors for travel insurance for senior citizens, so we looked at travel insurance companies that offer the best coverage for preexisting conditions.
  • Price: We compared travel insurance providers offering reasonable basic and comprehensive coverage rates.
  • Benefits geared towards seniors: We compared travel insurance companies that offer solid coverage for senior citizens, like medical evacuation, COVID-19 coverage, and trip cancellation.

You can read more about our insurance rating methodology here.

Seniors should look for travel insurance policies that offer comprehensive medical coverage, including for preexisting conditions and emergency medical evacuation. They should also consider policies with higher coverage limits to ensure adequate protection. Additionally, seniors should seek travel insurance plans that provide 24/7 assistance services, as well as coverage for trip cancellations, interruptions, and baggage protection.

The cost of senior travel insurance coverage can vary depending on your age, overall health, state of residence, travel destination, and length of your trip. However, assuming all other factors are the same, you'll pay more for travel insurance at 70 than at 30.

All travel insurance companies, except World Nomads, included in this guide offer coverage for pre-existing medical conditions as long as you buy your policy within the qualifying period from when you placed your trip deposit.

Allianz is the best travel insurance for seniors due to its wide array of medical coverages and emergency medical transport. Allianz also offers multi-trip insurance policies , which could make sense for seniors who travel frequently.

In some instances, travel insurance companies will have age eligibility restrictions, often only insuring people 80 years old and younger.

Whether you’re traveling the world or crossing state lines, travel insurance such as the policies offered by AXA Travel Insurance can offer a safety net in case you have to cancel or interrupt your trip or need support along the way for medical emergencies, lost bags, or missed connections.

For more than 60 years, AXA Travel Insurance has provided peace of mind and financial stability to travelers. With solid ratings and underwriting by Nationwide Mutual Insurance, travel insurance plans sold by AXA are backed by an A.M. Best Excellent financial strength rating. AXA offers travel insurance with trip interruption and cancellation coverage, medical emergency and evacuation benefits, lost or delayed baggage, and more.

Let’s examine AXA’s travel insurance coverage options, benefits, and service and compare it to alternatives such as credit card travel coverage and other travel insurance providers.

Travel insurance can protect what you’ve invested in an upcoming trip. When the unexpected occurs, such as a trip cancellation or medical need , travel insurance can offer the benefits you need to cover it.

You might choose travel insurance for these reasons:

  • Your trip has deposits or payments that you can’t get refunded if you need to cancel your trip.
  • The health insurance you use at home doesn’t work at your destination.
  • You’re planning activities that aren’t covered by your health insurance.
  • Medical care is subpar at your destination and you may need to be evacuated to another location with adequate medical facilities.
  • You’re concerned about the possibility of lost bags, delays, or missed connections, especially if you have multiple flights or transfers.

Travel insurance isn’t necessary for every trip, such as if you’re traveling domestically where your health insurance works and you don’t have major nonrefundable expenses. But travel insurance is worth it if you’ve got a lot of nonrefundable expenses invested in your trip or you’ll need medical coverage at your destination.

COVID-19 can interrupt your travel plans, whether you get sick and have to cancel a trip, need to quarantine or get medical treatment while traveling, or plan to visit a destination with high COVID-19 numbers. While some travel insurance companies  exclude COVID-19 from insurance coverage , AXA offers COVID-19 coverage as part of its travel protection plans , including trip cancellation and trip interruption and emergency medical and evacuation coverage.

Why Purchase Travel Insurance From AXA?

Any travel insurance company you purchase a policy from should be reputable, reliable, and stable. After all, you’re relying on the company to be there for you when you need it most. It pays to verify reviews and ratings — AXA offers good reassurance in this area.

With 64 years in business, AXA has an A- Better Business Bureau rating . On the travel insurance website Squaremouth , AXA has an overall 4.22/5 rating , with 0.1% negative reviews among more than 69,000 policies sold . AXA’s travel insurance plans are backed by Nationwide Mutual Insurance, which has an A (Excellent) financial strength rating from financial rating company A.M. Best. With 6 decades in business and solid ratings , AXA is a travel insurance company you can trust.

AXA offers travel insurance with medical and emergency evacuation benefits, trip cancellation and interruption, baggage loss, and Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) options. Let’s look at the details of AXA travel insurance policies.

AXA offers 3 levels of travel insurance : Silver, Gold, and Platinum . Each level offers different limits, but all of AXA’s policies have 100% trip cancellation coverage, emergency medical coverage and medical evacuation, baggage delay and loss, and missed connection coverage.

Let’s compare what you get with each policy:

With plans as low as $16 and minimal coverage, AXA recommends the Silver plan for domestic travel. You can cover 100% of your trip cost for trip cancellation and interruption coverage. If your travel is delayed, you can get up to $100 per day for expenses, up to $500 total, and $200 for delayed baggage.

There’s also $500 in missed connection coverage. The $25,000 in emergency medical expense coverage isn’t much, but it might be adequate for domestic travel if you’re using your primary health insurance first.

Gold plans start at $36 but add more coverage and are appropriate for cruises or Schengen travel . Like the Silver plan, the Gold plan offers up to 100% trip cancellation coverage but bumps trip interruption to 150% of your trip cost. Limits for all coverages are higher, with $200 per day and $1,000 maximum in trip delay coverage and $1,000 for missed connections. Baggage delays offer up to $300, and you can get up to $1,500 for lost baggage and personal effects.

The health coverage is also much higher at $100,000, and it adds a $50,000 non-medical emergency evacuation option on top of the $500,000 medical emergency evacuation benefit. This plan also offers an optional $35,000 collision damage waiver.

The Platinum plan , starting at $52, steps up coverage and offers additional options. You’ll get 100% trip cost coverage for trip cancellation and 150% for trip interruption. Trip delay coverage offers up to $300 per day and a $1,250 maximum, plus $600 for baggage delays and $3,000 for lost baggage and personal effects.

Emergency medical treatment is also higher at $250,000, and you’re covered for $1 million in emergency medical evacuation — $100,000 for non-medical evacuation.

The Platinum plan also offers additional coverage for sports, with $25 per day for lost skier days, $500 for lost golf rounds, and $1,000 for sports equipment rental. It also offers optional coverage for up to 75% of trip cost with Cancel for Any Reason coverage and a $50,000 collision damage waiver.

You can get a quote directly from AXA by visiting the AXA Travel Insurance website . The quote form is the first thing you’ll see on the homepage.

To start your quote, you’ll fill out the quote form, including your state of residence, destination country, travel dates, first deposit date, total trip cost, number of travelers (up to 10), and the age of travelers.

Once you fill out the form, you’ll be presented with plan options. For a 60-year-old visiting Japan and spending $2,500, we were offered a Silver ($155), Gold ($183), or Platinum ($218) plan .

If you select a Platinum plan, you will be able to add CFAR optional coverage for up to 75% of your trip cost.

How AXA Compares — Summary

AXA is a good option for travel insurance, but it’s not your only option. Let’s see how AXA compares to the coverage you can get from popular travel credit cards and travel insurance competitors .

Many travel credit cards offer travel insurance as a complimentary benefit, whether it’s car rental collision waivers , trip cancellation coverage , or emergency medical and evacuation benefits. This coverage can be helpful if you’re using your card to pay for your travel expenses, but it’s often not as comprehensive as the coverage you can get from a travel insurance policy like what AXA offers .

Let’s compare AXA’s best travel insurance policy against The Platinum Card ®  from American Express  and the  Chase Sapphire Reserve ® , which both offer some of the best travel protections available with credit card benefits.

Unless you’re taking a trip with expenses higher than $10,000, the trip cancellation coverage should be about the same whether you’re using an Amex Platinum card, Chase Sapphire Reserve card, or the AXA Platinum plan. However, the AXA Platinum plan comes out ahead with 150% of your trip cost for trip interruption.

We see a major difference in coverage for emergency medical treatment and evacuation. The Amex Platinum card doesn’t offer emergency medical coverage, but you can arrange an emergency medical evacuation using the Premium Global Assist Hotline. The Chase Sapphire Reserve card offers up to $2,500 in emergency medical coverage and $100,000 for emergency evacuation. Neither of these offerings compares to the $250,000 in emergency medical coverage and $1 million in emergency medical evacuation coverage you can get from AXA Platinum.

Credit card travel insurance coverage is complimentary if you already have the card, but it is lacking in some areas. It’s a good idea to use your card’s travel insurance as a backup for trip cancellation, interruption, travel delays, or lost baggage, but use the AXA Platinum plan for its superior emergency medical and evacuation coverage.

It’s always a good idea to compare travel insurance quotes across multiple providers so you can find the best price and coverage. We used Squaremouth , a travel insurance comparison website, to see how AXA’s policies compare to those of other companies.

As with the initial price quotes we pulled from AXA’s website, our sample trip on Squaremouth had:

  • Traveling to Japan a month from now
  • Trip cost: $2,500
  • Initial trip deposit paid within the last 24 hours
  • State of residence: Texas

We limited results to policies that offer at least as much coverage as the AXA Platinum policy does on major benefits:

  • COVID-19 coverage
  • Minimum $250,000 emergency medical benefit
  • Minimum $1 million emergency medical benefit
  • 100% trip cancellation
  • 150% trip interruption

Each policy offered nearly identical coverage for these major benefits, and Tin Leg ‘s Silver plan had the lowest cost at $164.35, followed closely by $165.84 from HTH Worldwide ‘s TripProtector Classic plan.

AXA Squaremouth alternatives

If you’re mainly concerned with full coverage for trip cancellation and interruption along with $250,000 in emergency medical and $1 million for emergency medical evacuation, you can save if you go with Tin Leg .

However, the higher-priced policies offer additional coverage and options. For example, AXA Platinum offers the option to add Cancel for Any Reason coverage and includes sports equipment rentals and missed ski days or golf rounds. Tin Leg doesn’t have missed connection coverage, but Seven Corners Trip Protection Choice and AXA Platinum offer up to $1,500 for missed connections on cruises or tours.

All of the policies we quoted except for Tin Leg Silver offer employment layoff as a covered cancellation reason, and AXA Platinum allows you to cancel your trip for work reasons, though none of the other policies do. AXA Platinum also offers $100,000 in non-medical evacuation , which Tin Leg Silver and HTH Worldwide TripProtector Classic policies do not, and is much higher than the $20,000 benefit offered by the Seven Corners Trip Protection Choice policy.

AXA Platinum has a higher cost than competitors but offers more robust coverage. If you’re mainly concerned with major coverage for trip cancellation and interruption, emergency medical, and emergency evacuation, other travel insurance companies may offer a better quote. But if you want additional coverage and options such as non-medical evacuation and expanded cancellation reasons, check out the details on what AXA Platinum offers.

  1. Southern Cross International Medical Only Travel Insurance

Vote ( 1) 5mo International Medical Only Travel Insurance. 1. A good option. History and loyalty ignored. The international medical insurance is a good option versus comprehensive insurance. However, I find that SCTI do not account for History and loyalty.

Competitive price and peace of mind. My travel insurance with SCT was very easy to set up and the price was very good. We are a family of 4 and the children were free, so even better. We were able to specify that one of us is diabetic. Fortunately we did not encounter any issues while traveling and therefore cannot review their claims process.

In terms of overall cost, you pay more the older you get which is understandable. But in terms of the plans cover for 80% of costs, it is restricted by the limts - so it isn't actually 80% for everything. Be warned if you want full cover, go for their wel-being plans instead.
