Long car rides can either be a serious drag, or an opportunity for lots of fun.

How can you turn a long car ride into a fun and exciting time for everyone? By playing games! While it’s fun to come up with your own games on the fly, it’s always helpful to have a list of games you can pull from to always switch it up and keep things exciting.

Today, we’re going to cover 30 of the most fun road trip trivia games for long car rides and show you how you and your friends or family can play them on your next trip. From classics like 21 Questions and I Spy to new games that are sure to become instant favorites, you’ll find something for everyone on this road trip trivia list.

Best Road Trip Trivia Apps

It’s safe to assume there’s at least one smartphone among the people in the car, and that phone is a huge asset when it comes to road trip trivia. Here are some of the best trivia apps to check out on your next getaway.

Jeopardy! World Tour

World Tour is the latest mobile app from one of the greatest trivia games of all time. This is our favorite road trip trivia app because there’s an offline mode that you can enjoy even if your phone loses service along the way.

This app features a multiple-choice question format and various difficulty levels, making it a great road trip trivia for families option and easy to adapt to play with the other people in the car.

Plus, you can also play by yourself if the rest of the car isn’t up for another trivia round. If you’re armed with an encyclopedia of fun facts for car rides, you’ll want to try your luck at this fun and addicting trivia game.

This app is perfect for the car because it has an uncluttered interface with text that’s large enough for everyone to read. There are tons of categories and questions in the app, which can provide you with hours of road trip trivia fun.

Psych is a play on classic party games like Balderdash! Where you must come up with the craziest answers to your friend’s questions to score points. If everyone in the car has a smartphone, you can all connect and play this hilarious game that will keep you entertained for hours.

Unfortunately, since everyone needs to use a smartphone to play the game, the driver can’t get in on the fun. That may be a good thing, since they’ll be able to focus on the road instead.

Guess The Song

This app is similar to SongPop 2, which is one of the most popular “name that tune” apps for Android and iOS, but where SongPop2 is more about online multiplayer competition, Guess The Song has a single-player mode which is easy to adapt so everyone in the car can play.

You can play together, or take turns to see who can name songs the fastest. There are plenty of playlists to choose from, with music ranging from the 60s to today.

Popcorn Trivia

If you’re in a car full of movie buffs, Popcorn Trivia is the perfect road trip trivia questions game for you. The game is free to play, and it features a vast library of different movie trivia questions from several different genres. You can compete against each other or together, and you can unlock new trivia packs from popular movies and TV shows with the points you earn in the game.

Road Trip Trivia Games

The trivia apps above are lots of fun, but you may not always have access to a smartphone with a strong signal during your road trip. Thankfully, road trip trivia has been around a lot longer than smartphones, so there are some great games you can play without the help of your phone.

We’ve assembled a list of some of the best and most fun classic road trip games for you and your squad to play as you’re making your way across the country.

Two Truths and a Lie

This fun-for-everyone game is always entertaining, and it’s a great way to get to know your fellow road trippers better. Two Truths and a Lie is perfect for playing with co-workers, friends, and family. All you need to do to win is separate fact from fiction.

  • The rest of the car tries to determine which statement is false
  • Once the round is over, it’s the next passengers turn to tell Two Truths and a Lie

Would You Rather

Hands down one of the most fun games for the entire group is Would You Rather. This game is fun for the whole family, but it can be a real blast when the adults are playing. This game is one of our favorite road trip quizzes for couples since it’s a great way to get to know your partner while also passing the time while driving.

  • The next player must name another movie that the actor was in, for example, Wolf of Wall Street
  • The game continues until someone is stumped. If you can’t think of a movie or actor, you’re eliminated!
  • The last remaining player is the winner of the round

Do you have the best taste in music in the car? Put your style to the test against your friends or family in this fun battle game. In order to play, you’ll need at least three people, so this game is perfect for families and groups of friends.

  • First, appoint someone in the car as the judge
  • The judge picks a music category i.e., pop, hip hop, rock, etc.
  • The remaining people in the car take turns playing the “best” song from that category
  • The judge awards a point to whichever person plays the best song

Did You Know?

A favorite road trip trivia game for couples and friends, this one is a great way to get to know the people you’re with even better than you do now.

To play the game, each person in the car takes turns sharing an interesting (and unknown) fact about themselves. Each player must begin by saying, “Did you know that I…” and then adding a fun factoid the others in the car don’t know about them

  • One person in the car must be appointed The Word Master

This fun game adds a spin to the bad movie plot game we mentioned earlier. Can you guess which movie they’re thinking of from a single sentence?

  • The first player explains why they were late by describing the plot of a movie in a single sentence
  • Ex. “Sorry I’m late, I was saving the world from an alien invasion on the Fourth of July” (Independence Day)
  • The remaining players take turns guessing which movie the first player was talking about
  • Whoever answers correctly becomes the next contestant in the game

The Going on Vacation Game

How good is your memory? This game is a great way to see which member of your party is the best at remembering fine details, and it’s lots of fun to play. Each player adds a new item to the list when it’s their turn, and it’s up to the next player to remember everything on the list, in order.

  • The first player starts by saying “I’m going on vacation and I’m bringing…” and adds an item
  • I.E., I’m going on vacation, and I’m bringing a T-shirt
  • The next player must repeat the sentence, the first item, and then add an additional item
  • The game continues until a player can’t remember all of the other items on the list

This classic game is fun for the whole family, and it’s one that practically everyone already knows how to play.

  • The first player selects an object from the car or countryside
  • The player then says “I spy with my eye something beginning with the letter [first letter of object]
  • The other players take turns guessing what the item is
  • Each correct guess earns a point
  • The player with the most points at the end of the game wins

Silence is golden, and that’s especially true for parents who are trying to find some peace from their kids during a road trip. This game couldn’t be any easier to play. The object is to remain quiet for as long as possible. Whoever goes the longest without making a sound wins!

Making Family Travel an Adventure

road trip games questions

55+ Road Trip Trivia Games, Conversation Starters and Q&A’s for your Next Road Trip

Road trips are such an adventure, and road trip trivia games make them so much more memorable and fun.

If ever there was a summer for road trips, this is the one. Many of us are ready to travel, but some of us (raises hand) aren’t quite ready to board a plane.

To be honest, I’ve always been more of a road trip person than an air travel person, and let me just tell you, road trip trivia makes the in-car time go by quickly.

When I’m in the car on a long road trip with my kids, I like to listen to the radio, but this only lasts so long. It’s road trip games for the win on long car rides.

While I love games, I also love to hear what’s going on in the heads of those in my car, so road trip conversation starters are critical, too. And, so much fun.

Before you drive off this summer, whether to the mountains or the shore, plan to download, purchase or print out these fun road trip trivia questions and answers, games and apps, and conversation starters!

Similar to Trivial Pursuit , the first player to correctly answer questions in all six trivia categories, including Science, Art, Sports and History, is crowned the winner.

When you want to engage as a family with travel trivia games or hilarious car conversations, here are a few of my faves:

Guess in 10

Guess in 10 is a card-based game of questions in which players can ask up to 10 questions to identify what’s on the game card.

This portable car trivia game is available in multiple themes, including Cities Around the World, Deadly Dinosaurs, World of Sports and States of America.

Guess in 10 comes with 50 game cards and 6 clue cards. The age-appropriate content is good for players that range in age from 8 to 99.

Good Guess: A Social Trivia Game

road trip games questions

With Good Guess, the goal is to “unriddle” clues about everyday people, places and things, like the human brain and hippopotamuses.

Each person in the car takes a card and reads off the challenging clues, like “I can beat the sun in a staring contest” (answer: Chuck Norris).

The winner or winning team earns points with correct guesses, and more points when fewer clues are needed to guess the person, place or object.

Would You Rather: Travel Edition

Would You Rather is a super-fun gamebook that can be enjoyed by the whole family whether on a road trip or relaxing around the pool at your final destination.

This gamebook includes dozens of boredom-busting questions and conversation starters, like “Would you rather meet the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy?”

Fun games to pass the time on your next roadtrip.

Road trip games can pass the time on a long trip.

Roadtrips are an enjoyable way to see changing scenery, a chance to stay overnight in retro roadside motels, and an excuse to pull over to see the quirky roadside attractions that you’ll only find in small town America.

But road trips also mean long stretches of flat highway where the oohs and ahhs slow down, the snacks run out, and you need a break from the podcast you’ve been streaming.

Pass the time in the car with a game of 'Would You Rather?'

Enter road trip games. They’ll help you pass the time between stops and hopefully squash any questions like “are we there, yet?”.

From games that can be played among a group of friends or couples to road trip games to entertain kids, these games will help keep you entertained on the road.

Top 7 Road Trip Games to Play

1. table topics.

Table Topics is a deck full of fun conversation starter cards. The game is recommended for ages 12 and up, and the cards can spur conversation between a couple or a group. The deck has 135 cards and questions range from: “Is it more important to be book smart or street smart?” and “If you could have front-row seats to any concert who would you like to see?”

Apple Issues New Spyware Attack Warning To iPhone Users

Nyt strands hints spangram and answers for friday april 12th, juiced o j simpson once had a hidden camera prank show and made stabbing jokes on it, 2. mad libs.

The scribe in charge of the Mad Libs tablet will be prompted to ask participants for verbs, adjectives, nouns, and so on, which will then be put into a short narrative. The catch: No one knows the context that the words they toss out will be put in, so the story ends up being a goofy one. This is a great game for kids in elementary school who are starting to learn the ins and outs of nouns, adjectives and the like.

3. “Would You Rather?”

You could come up with your own scenarios for a game of “Would You Rather” where you pit two outrageous scenarios against one another. But the “Would You Rather” deck of cards is loaded with pre-set predicaments: “Would you rather own a machine that makes any food you want or prints $50 per week?” The family edition has 200 cards that were made with multi-generation road trips in mind.

4. License Plate Game

A road trip classic, and a fun one to play with kids, the license plate game challenges everyone in the car to collectively spot license plates from all 50 states. Pro tip: Print out a map of the United States to keep track of all the states you’ve collected.

When the karaoke is over, play a round of song trivia.

5. License Plate Word Scramble

When you’ve already done your Wordle for the day, you can engage your fellow passengers with a game of word scramble. Just look at a plate in a nearby lane and extract the letter — then challenge everyone to come up with a word with the letters in the plate. For example, if the license plate has the letters NKE in it, the word could be “Banker.”

6. Song Trivia

Every great road trip has a good playlist. But turn your tunes into a game by seeing who can name the singer, song title, and, for a bonus round, the year the song came out. You can set up a playlist in advance for this game or just scroll through the stations.

7. The Geography Game

If you loved social studies as a kid, this game is for you. One person starts the game by throwing out a geographic location (i.e. city, state, mountain region, river, etc.). Let’s say the starting word is California. The next person then comes with a location that starts with the last letter of the previous name, so, in this case, the letter “A,” which could be Alaska, Appalachians, Atlanta, and so on. You could mix up the themes, too, or narrow the categories, too. Other categories could be types of food, animals, countries, or band names.

15 Fun Road Trip Games That Will Keep You Entertained for Hours

T here is nothing like spending quality time with friends or family on the open road for a scenic road trip. However, doing just that in one spot for hours on end is bound to get boring eventually. Luckily, there are unique and entertaining road trip games that make the potentially miserable parts of road trips, like being stuck in a car with the same people, into something fun and exciting . Even if your road trip is on the shorter end, games like this are a great way to take a break from screens and take in the scenes around you. They are also perfect for bonding and quality time.

All of these road trip games can be played with two players or more, including the driver (as long as someone else is in charge of everything so the driver can still concentrate). They range from simple classics like “20 Questions” and “Never Have I Ever” to more thought-provoking games or classics with a twist. Have fun with them and create your own rules to make the games more enjoyable for you and everyone else you are traveling with.

20 Questions

Rules: One person thinks of any person, place or thing, and the other players have 20 questions to guess what it is. The answerer can only respond with “yes” or “no.”

Example: Player A thinks of “Eiffel Tower.” Player B asks, “Is it a man-made object?” Player A responds, “Yes.” Player C asks, “Is it located in Europe?” Player A responds, “Yes.” And so on until someone guesses the correct answer.

The License Plate Game

Rules: Players try to spot license plates from different states or countries and keep a running list. You can also give half or full points for finding license plates with special/interesting tag numbers. The player who spots the most unique plates wins.

Example: Player A spots a license plate from Texas and gets one point. Player B spots one from California and gets another point. Half or whole points can be given if a player spots a special tag number like “1L0V3Y0U.” The player with the most points at the end of the trip wins.

Would You Rather?

Rules: Players take turns asking each other “Would you rather” questions, presenting two equally challenging or absurd scenarios. If a simple game that can entertain you for a long time with hard-hitting and difficult to choose decisions.

Example: “Would you rather have the ability to fly but only at walking speed or teleport, but only to places you’ve been before?”

Song Association

Rules: Song association is a popular game where a word is given to each player during their turn and they have 10 seconds to sing a song that says that word. Or you can have a person give all players the same word and whoever sings lyrics from a song that includes that word first wins a point.

Example: Player A is given the word “night,” so they sing the lyrics “We be all night” from “Drunk in Love” by Beyonce within 10 seconds to receive a point.

Categories/Concentration

Rules: Players choose a category (e.g., types of food, cities, animals) and take turns naming items in that category without repeating or hesitating. Whoever stutters or repeats a world is out and the rest can either start a new category or continue the original one and lay until one person wins.

Example: Category: Countries. Player A starts with “France,” Player B says “Italy,” Player C says “Japan,” and so on.

Trivia Quiz

Rules: Players take turns asking each other trivia questions. The person who answers correctly earns a point. Someone other than the driver can also look up trivia questions and read them aloud to the others playing. Rotate who reads the question if everyone in the car wants to participate in guessing.

Storytelling Relay

Rules: Players start a story, and each person adds a sentence to continue the narrative. The story can take unexpected turns and get quite entertaining. This game can go on as long as you want or you can set a limit to how many sentences are added.

Example: Player A starts with “Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there lived a talking squirrel.” Player B adds, “The squirrel had a magical acorn that granted wishes.” And so on.

The Alphabet Game

There are many ways to play road trip games like this one but here is a spin on it that makes the alphabet game perfect for being on the road.

Rules: Players take turns finding words that start with consecutive letters of the alphabet, beginning with “A” and going all the way to “Z.” The words can be spotted on road signs, billboards, or anything else visible outside the car. It can be an object you actually see or words you see written on something.

Example: Player 1 spots “Apple” on a billboard, then Player 2 sees “Banana” on a poster outside a store, then Player 3 sees a “Car,” and so on.

The Name Game

The name game is another addition to the simple but surprisingly entertaining road trip games. Rules: Players take turns naming a celebrity whose name starts with the last letter of the previous answer.

Example: Player 1 says “Alicia Keys,” so Player 2 says “SZA,” then Player 3 says “Ariana Grande,” and so on.

Word Association

This one is similar to categories/concentration but involves a little more thinking.

Rules: One player starts with a word, and the next player says a word that is associated with it. This continues until someone hesitates or repeats a word.

Example: “Sun” – “Beach” – “Sand” – “Castle”.

The Movie Game

Rules: One player names an actor, and the next player names a movie they’ve been in. Players continue naming movies from that actor’s filmography until someone can’t think of one. Or player A can name an actor, and after player B names a movie they were in, player C (or back to player A if only two players) must name another actor that was in that movie. Once player C names a new actor, player D (or whoever is next) must name a separate movie with that actor, and the game continues until someone is stumped.

Example: Player A says “Viola Davis,” then player B says “The Help,” so player C says “Octavia Spencer,” then player D says “Hidden Figures,” and so on.

Never Have I Ever

You know of this one, it’s a classic. Play this game with your travel partners to get to know them better or expose any crazy or funny situations they have been in.

Rules: Players take turns making statements starting with “Never have I ever…”. If other players have done what the person said they haven’t, they lose a point. The player with the most points at the end wins.

Road Trip Bingo

Rules: Buy road trip bingo cards or create your own bingo cards with items you might see on the road (e.g., a cow, a red car, a billboard for a restaurant). Players mark off items as they see them, and the first to get a bingo wins.

Example: Bingo card with squares for “State trooper car,” “Rest stop,” “airport,” etc.

The Memory Game

Rules: The first player names an object they saw on the road (e.g., a red truck). The next player repeats the first object and adds a new one, and the sequence continues, with each player reciting the growing list of objects in order.

Example: Player 1: “I saw a red truck.” Player 2: “I saw a red truck and a green billboard.” Player 3: “I saw a red truck, a green billboard, and a yellow street sign.”

The Question Game

Rules: Players take turns asking each other questions, but they can only respond with another question, not a statement. The goal is to keep the conversation going by asking thought-provoking or silly questions.

Example: Player 1: “Have you ever been to the moon?” Player 2: “Why, do you have a spaceship?” Player 1: “Would you like to come with me?” Player 2: “What about our road trip?”

Orlando magic | magic wrap up 3-game road trip at 76ers in high stakes contest.

Magic forward Paolo Banchero doesn't want Orlando losing sight of the bigger picture following back-to-back losses, including Wednesday at Milwaukee. (Morry Gash/AP)

Despite back-to-back road losses at Houston and Milwaukee , the No. 5 seed Magic still can finish as high as third in the East for the NBA playoffs.

On the flip side, Orlando can fall out of the top 6 entirely and drop to eighth, which would result in Jamahl Mosley’s squad having to participate in the Play-In Tournament to reach a first-round playoff series against the No. 1 Celtics or the No. 2 seed.

Before anything else, however, the Magic know they need to get back on track Friday at Philadelphia to avoid further slippage in the conference standings in the final two games of the regular season (Bally Sports Florida, 7).

Orlando (46-34) hosts the Bucks (49-31) on Sunday in a matinee finale (Bally Sports Florida, 1).

A win at No. 7 Philadelphia (45-35) would clinch, at worst, a top 6 seed in the East for the Magic because the 76ers can’t post more than 46 wins with one game.

A top 6 seed guarantees locks in a postseason berth. Nos. 7-10 in each conference compete in the Play-In for the Nos. 7 and 8 spots in the playoffs.

“We control what we can control and in these next two games. We’ve got to be very focused and intentional about the way we go about our business,” Mosley said after the Magic fell to Milwaukee on Wednesday night.

Beede’s Breakdown: How costly turnovers hurt Magic in loss at Bucks

Orlando’s “business” is defense. It’s what the team described as its “calling card” before the season started and has continued to serve as its identity.

The Magic’s season-long 110.8 defensive rating is third-best in the league, but taking a look at the last five games tells a different story. In that stretch when Orlando went 2-3, the rating ballooned to 117.7 for 27th out of 30 teams.

Opponents are shooting 40.9% from 3-point range on 30.8 attempts.

The Magic trailed by as many as 19 points to Charlotte and Houston — teams already eliminated from playoff contention — in the past week while falling behind by 27 at Milwaukee.

“Defensively that’s two games where we’ve given up 100-plus [points],” Mosley said. “We’ve got to do a better job of sitting down and locking in there.

“It’s got to be the identity of us that we continue to impact shots, make it tough for them.”

Orlando getting back Franz Wagner against the 76ers would help. He’s missed the last two games with a right ankle sprain and is questionable.

Although he’s known for his effort on offense — he’s led (or tied) the team in scoring 22 times — Wagner is an important piece of the puzzle on defense as well. At 6-8, he’s a solid position defender who can switch and hold his own against elite guards in space and contest shots without fouling.

Wagner’s individual defensive rating (108.3) is second on the team for players who have played at 50 games, behind only Jonathan Isaac (102.5).

Wagner’s 72 total steals also are second-most. Jalen Suggs leads with 105, which are eighth-most in the NBA.

The lone player on Orlando’s injury report, Wagner is “slowly progressing,” Mosley said. Orlando also is set to get back guard Gary Harris, who missed Wednesday’s contest because of right foot injury maintenance.

Magic fans should never again doubt team-builder extraordinaire Jeff Weltman | Commentary

For Philadelphia, All-NBA center Joel Embiid (left knee injury recovery), point guard Kyle Lowry (left knee effusion) and reserve forward KJ Martin (left great toe contusion) are questionable. Veteran forward Robert Covington (left knee bone bruise) won’t be available.

Embiid didn’t play the first time the 76ers beat the Magic on the road by 20 points in late December, but he totaled 36 in a 15-point win at Kia Center on Jan. 19.

Philadelphia will be incentivized to win — the same way Milwaukee blew out the Magic without two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (left calf injury).

“You’ve got to try to bring the energy and intensity, and you can’t let a couple of losses sidetrack you from the bigger picture,” Magic forward Paolo Banchero said. “We’re trying to make a run in the playoffs.”

To make a run in the playoffs, Orlando must reach them and secure a favorable matchup to increase its chances. A top 4 seed would give the Magic homecourt advantage.
