All of our skippers are at minimum WiSe Accredited  with some being WiSe Masters.​ ‍ We are not only trained to operate vessels safely around wildlife, but also to monitor their actions to know what they want.

BOOK THIS TRIP  Eddystone Lighthouse – 2 Hours Adults £42, Children 8-15 years old £32 On leaving Looe Harbour we will stop around Looe Island to look for the resident seals, before making our way on the 12 mile passage towards the Eddystone Lighthouse looking out for dolphins which are often plentiful on this route. once at the lighthouse there will be an opportunity to take photos and watch for wildlife. We will then steam to Rame Head before picking up the coast, following it down through beautiful Whitsand Bay passing the old fishing villages of Portwrinkle, Downderry and Seaton on the way back to Looe. Brilliant two hour sea safari today, the wonderful weather and calm seas helped, but also felt totally relaxed as the rib raced across the water. Our guide clearly knew the local area and coastline, full of interesting information, and we did indeed see puffins, Dolphins, a seal, and even a bizarre sun fish! Highly recommended.

Are there any age restrictions for your boat trips?

There is no age limit for our boat trips or charters.

Do you offer trips for family celebrations and memorials?

We offer private trips and charters for these occasions. Get in touch for more info.

What if I have mobility issues?

We endeavour to make all of our boat trips accessible to everyone and is usually from a pontoon at Padstow or Rock. If you have any mobility issues please contact the office before booking and we can advise on the best time and departure point. During spring tides there is occasionally a walk along the beaches during low tide at both Padstow and Rock. Access onto our boats from the beaches is via a small household stepladder.

What’s the minimum number of people needed to run a boat trip?

Our Private Sea Safaris always run. Any Sea Safari sold by the seat requires a minimum booking of four seats to run.

At Godrevy you can spot the largest seal colony in Cornwall. You need to walk out to the east side of the headland and look down into Mutton Cove.

The cove is home to a large colony of North Atlantic Grey Seals. The best time to see them is in the winter but even in the summer you will probably see a few seals hauled up on the beach.

Please take notice of the signage around the top of the cove, keep quiet, keep dogs on leads and make no attempt to climb down the cliff.

Like everywhere on the Cornish coast, if you are lucky you will see seals and dolphins, but it's not guaranteed. There are boats that will take you out looking for them, and over the years there have been sightings of seals in the harbour at Newquay.

If you are lucky enough to spot them in the harbour, do not be tempted to approach them, seals are wild animals and have a bite far worse than a dogs!

That all depends on what you are looking for? North Cornwall tends to be wilder, rugged cliffs, long sandy windswept beaches, a land of myth's and legends...

The south coast is gentler, historic fishing villages, small sheltered coves and green fields running down to the water's edge.

Whichever coast you choose, you will receive a warm welcome, and if you do get bored, it's never much more than an hour's drive from one side to the other.

A shorter version of our Sealife Safari, with a focus on searching for seals. Our 1 hour Seal Safari is an excellent way to get out on the water for an exhilarating taster, experiencing seals in their natural habitat from our custom-built RIBs.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of the boat and the unpredictability of sea conditions we do not permit pregnant women, children under the age of 2 or anyone with current or historic back, neck or bone problems. If you need further advice about if our trips are suitable for you, please contact us .

What to expect

Following the coast along at speed, we will slow on approach to areas of the coastline where grey seals regularly visit. In fact  grey seals  are one of the marine mammals that can be seen here all year round!

If the conditions are right, we may also head out to one of the nearby offshore islands where seals often haul out on the rocks to sunbathe.

What we're looking for

Seals can often be seen bobbing around in the water, popping up to say hello, or basking on the rocks of offshore islands. Adhering to WiSe guidelines we don’t like to disturb or distress the seals by coming too close, so we keep a respectful distance from them; however often when in the water they come up to greet us.

An array of birds can also be seen on the boat trip, especially during nesting season for the puffins, guillemots and razorbills (mid April-mid July). If we are lucky and dolphins have been spotted in the area, we may head out to search for them too. You never know what might pop up along the way!

Professionally guided

Our boat trips are professionally guided, offering you the chance to learn a little about the wildlife we see as well as local points of interest and our rich local heritage. Your knowledgeable guide will be happy to answer any questions you have about the wildlife. You will have ample opportunity to snap some great photos of exciting wildlife and the rugged coastline. Every boat trip is a non-stop mixture of sensitive wildlife observation and exploring the wild North Cornish waters.

We take from ages 2 and up (babies are not permitted). Please be advised that our boats travel at speed and can be very bouncy which some young children enjoy but others are not so keen on. Individual children’s suitability is at your discretion.

Our trips still run on rainy days. Rain does not deter the marine life (they are wet anyway!) so we simply wrap up in waterproofs and go for it! Please dress extra warm on rainy days with lots of layers to avoid getting cold. If you would prefer not to go out on a rainy day, please keep an eye on the weather and you may cancel your booking yourself. As long as we receive at least 24 hours notice, we can issue you with a full refund.

If we cancel your trip due to rough sea conditions or minimum passenger numbers (5) not being met, we will contact you as soon as possible to offer to reschedule you to a later date. If this is not possible, we can issue you with a full refund. Please note: If you cancel a booking yourself, we require at least 24 hours notice to be able to issue a refund.

Due to the bouncy nature of the boat and the unpredictability of sea conditions, our tours are not suitable for pregnant women.

All of our trips travel at speed and can be very bouncy in places so are not suitable for those with back/spine/bone problems.

Well behaved, small to medium sized dogs are permitted on our boats, however, often dogs do not like the sensation of being on a bouncy boat so please take this into consideration. If you can make other arrangements for your dog, it might be best to play it safe and leave them on land.

Around Looe Island - 20minutes

Looe Island - Looe Bay

Just a taster of a sea safari, staying close to the town and taking in Looe Island and Looe Bay

Join us for an exhilarating 45-minute wildlife and sightseeing trip. Our experienced skippers will guide you on wildlife, points of interest and where to get the best photos.

This tour covers the best of what’s local to Looe, heading out around the seals of Looe Island then speeding down to the historic port of Polperro before hugging the coast back heading east for a final flourish around Looe Bay.

The Coastal Safari - 90 mins

Our 90-minute coastal safari gives you the chance to take in even more of the stunning Cornish coastline and see all its hidden coves, beaches and wildlife.

Our skipper will share some local stories whilst taking you to the best spots to see seals, dolphins and seabirds.

The Eddystone Lighthouse Safari - 2 Hours

On leaving Looe harbour we will stop around Looe Island to look for the resident seals before making our way on the passage towards the Eddystone lighthouse whilst looking out for dolphins which are often seen on this route. We will then cross to Rame Head picking up the coast and following it down through the beautiful Whitsand Bay, passing Portwinkle, Downderry and Seaton on the way back to Looe.

Join us for a leisurely boat ride to Looe’s very own Island. Enjoy 2 hours of exploring the beautiful marine nature reserve which provides a quiet haven for wildlife, surrounded by waters which are teeming with life.

Appreciate the breath taking views of our Cornish coastline and experience many years of local history on the island.

When your adventure on Looe island comes to an end our lovely skipper will pick you up ready for a safe return to town.

What to Bring on Your Trip

A wind/waterproof coat is always a good idea and as it is a lot cooler on the water.

Suitable footwear; either trainers or shoes with plenty of grip for safety whilst getting on and off the boat.

Phone or camera to capture your trip and wildlife; this is brought at your own risk, and we recommend a zip pocket to keep it secure!

Sunglasses; not only to protect from the sun but also sea spray on breezier days

A fantastic 4 hour trip we both massively enjoyed. We went on the Ocean Discovery trip and saw a great amount of Dolphins, Sea Birds and Seals, as well as the incredible sight of the Cornish coast. If you care about wildlife and the environment, this is most certainly the trip for you as they let the wildlife come to you (which the Dolphins did in abundance for us), instead of motoring into the feeding grounds, disrupting the wildlife, like some other operators. The boat itself is really comfy, with plenty of places to sit and enjoy whats going on around you!

Definitely recommend the 3 hour tour (we would opt for 4 hours next). Hannah and Duncan were very knowledgeable, not only of the local sea-life (above and below) but also coastal landmarks. They were extremely careful to not disturb feeding cetaceans, remaining at a distance for them to break away and visit us. This was in stark contrast to a tourist tripper boat that ploughed straight into their feeding area. Would definitely recommend a tour with these guys.

This afternoon we had a 4 hour trip on Marine Discovery, and were so lucky to see firstly , common dolphin, at a small distance, and then a little later a big pod of Bottle nosed Dolphins. Duncan said it was unusual to see both of these at this time of year. He is very knowledgable and gave us facts and figures of dolphin swim speeds, and bird flight speeds as well as much more interesting information. Such a lovely trip, and all done according to marine conservation code. A really lovely afternoon. Thank you Duncan & Rebecca

Had the most brilliant 3 hour trip with Marine Discovery Penzance - been coming to Cornwall for years but only just stumbled upon the company. Cannot recommend the experience enough - the weather was perfect, the boat is lovely, Duncan and Sara couldn’t have made us feel more welcome (and had so much knowledge to share) AND we got to see seals and dolphins. We felt very lucky to have seen them. We went on board knowing that animal sightings can’t be guaranteed so this was a real highlight. Even if we hadn’t seen much wildlife, the boat ride and the sights would have still been great. Thanks again to Duncan and Sara

We took the 3hr trip in the morning and it was absolutely wonderful! The catamaran was very comfortable with room to move around if need be. It was quiet and peaceful, making it all the more enjoyable for everyone (including the wildlife). We were lucky enough to spot some Risso’s dolphin and grey seals. The guides were super knowledgeable about the area and animals and were constantly on the look out for signs of interesting wildlife. Couldn’t recommend this trip enough and we can’t wait to come back, I just wish I could give more than 5 stars!
