Global rock icons Simple Minds are heading to the Yorkshire coast for a headline show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

The Scottish legends will play the UK’s biggest outdoor concert arena on Tuesday June 18 . They will be joined on the night by special guests Del Amitri.

Simple Minds are one of the most successful bands to ever come from the UK, selling more than 60 million records worldwide and having number one singles on both sides of the Atlantic

Demand to see them perform such iconic hits as Promised You a Miracle, Glittering Prize, Someone Somewhere in Summertime, Waterfront, Alive and Kicking, Sanctify Yourself and Don’t You Forget About Me has grown year on year, with the band consistently acclaimed as one of the best live outfits of their generation. 

Over the past 10 years Simple Minds – Jim Kerr (vocals), Charlie Burchill (guitars, keyboards), Gordy Goudie (acoustic guitar), Ged Grimes (bass), Cherisse Osei (drums), and Sarah Brown (vocals) – has rekindled the magic that made them a vital artistic force in their early days.

The band’s 2015 album Big Music was described by MOJO magazine as “their best album in 30 years”, and 2018’s Walk Between Worlds saw Simple Minds play their largest US tour to date while 2022’s Direction Of The Heart gave the band another Top Five album in the UK.

Following the huge success of 2022’s rapturously received 40 Years Of Hits Tour – and the recent announcement of Australian and New Zealand tour dates for early next year - today 4 th September Simple Minds announce the March UK and Ireland leg of their Global Tour 2024 .

In the past decade alone, Simple Minds have played to hundreds of thousands of people around the globe, including their largest US tour to date in 2018. Demand to see the band perform well known hits including ‘Promised You a Miracle’, ‘Glittering Prize’, ‘Someone Somewhere in Summertime’,  ‘Waterfront’, ‘Alive and Kicking’, ‘All The Things She Said’, ‘Sanctify Yourself’, ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’, ‘Mandela Day’, ‘Belfast Child’ and ‘See The Lights’ has grown year on year, with the band consistently acclaimed as one of the best live outfits of their generation. Referring to their 2022 Wembley Arena concert The Times newspaper said, “back in fashion and on thrilling form.”

Having sold over 60 million albums, and had number one hits the world over, n ot only have Simple Minds become a must-see live act, they have rekindled the magic that made them a vital artistic force in their early days and referenced by a slew of younger artists. Their most recent and critically acclaimed album ‘Direction of the Heart’ reached number 4 in the UK album chart and top 10 in multiple territories. Reviewing the album, Mojo described the band’s energy as ‘undiminished’ whilst other critics praised the band’s endurance and consistent creativity.

As already announced, prior to their UK and Ireland tour, Simple Minds will headline the Summer Concert Tour in New Zealand - performing in Taupo, Hamilton and Gibbston – and Australia’s Red Hot Summer Tour, playing Mornington, Rochford Winery, Sandstone and Kings Park.

The UK and Ireland leg of the tour will begin at Leeds First Direct Arena on 15 March. It will be followed by eight more UK shows, culminating in a hometown concert at Glasgow’s The OVO Hydro. The band will also play Dublin’s 3Arena – see below for full details.

More shows throughout the rest of the world will be announced soon. Across the whole Global Tour 2024 Simple Minds expect to play to over one million people worldwide.

Scottish rock band Simple Minds have announced an exciting UK and Ireland Tour for March 2024, including a London date. Tickets are due to go on sale later this week.

The news comes after the resounding success of their 40 Years Of Hits Tour in 2022 and their recent announcement of Australian and New Zealand tour dates for early next year.

When are they coming to London?

Simple Minds are performing at The O2 Arena on March 21 2024. The band, which formed in Glasgow in 1977, have recorded hits such as 'Alive and Kicking' and 'Don't You (Forget About Me)', and sold over 60 million albums worldwide.

How do I get tickets?

Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday 8 September. You can purchase tickets from Ticketmaster , SEE Tickets and Gigs & Tours. Tickets will be available for presale at 9am on September 7 if you sign up here for their mailing list.

Please note the booking fee for this gig includes a Venue Fee of £2.75. Ticket holders who are under the age of 14 must be attended by an adult.

Bag Policy:

The O2 allows small bags and handbags, one per person. Small bags are considered to be no larger than an A4 piece of paper.

Backpacks, travel cases, laptops, iPads, GoPros, laptop bags and large tote bags are not permitted inside the arena. But if you need to bring a large bag, visitors will need to leave it at the bag storage facility just outside the main entrance to The O2. This will cost £10 per bag.
