We’re in the midst of the roaring 2020s, a century after hidden bars and lounges commanded the social scene in the United States. Las Vegas is always looking to its past, which is why it’s no surprise there’s a handful of speakeasies throughout the destination.

Known for unique, off-the-path entrances and typically the need for a password to enter, these hidden treasures are great places to enjoy some jiggle juice with a hint of mystery. Here are the Las Vegas speakeasies that are the cat’s pajamas!

1.  Nowhere  at Fontainebleau Las Vegas 

The name lets you know this is hush-hush, but this speakeasy is a departure from most. The swanky, large room is stylishly decorated with warm hues and plush banquettes that almost suggest socializing with your fellow under-the-radar revelers. Enjoy a fabulous cocktail at the Strip’s newest speakeasy, which also offers an assortment of unique entertainment—up-close illusions, backgammon and tarot readings are all, well, in the cards. 

2.  The Vault  at Bellagio

  Hidden behind an ordinary doorway just off the casino floor is this ultra-exclusive space, where visitors can sip on high-end spirits and enjoy the anonymity a true speakeasy affords. The surroundings are lavish, and the cocktails are just as gorgeous to look at as they are delicious to drink. As you could have guessed, seating is limited—and on top of that, reservations are required. 

3.  The Underground Speakeasy & Distillery at The Mob Museum

A speakeasy in the National Museum for Organized Crime & Law Enforcement? Absolutely! Housed in the basement of the downtown institution, the space is adorned with Prohibition-era memorabilia and tells the story of the Roaring Twenties throughout the décor. Plus, it bottles its own moonshine and regularly features live entertainment. It’s the bee’s knees.

4.  The Count Room at Flamingo Las Vegas

Look for the “secret” entrance, a green door near the food court area just off the casino floor, or access it from inside Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse . This speakeasy, named after the space where mob mafiosos would take inventory of the loot they “skimmed off the top” serves up classic cocktails and offers options off the steak house menu. This is a spot you’ll definitely get comfortable at and enjoy a few drinks.

5.  Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den at Resorts World Las Vegas

Enter a “hidden world of sin” at this food hall’s hideaway by giving the secret “meow” password. The hidden spot features a Prohibition-style cocktail program with a Singaporean twist.

6.  Ghost Donkey at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Another Las Vegas speakeasy located in a fabulous food hall known as Block 16, this spot can be found by its green door with a white donkey on it. The mezcal and tequila lounge features flights of its dedicated spirits, cocktails, and a food menu that boasts the infamous Truffle Nachos – a must order. 7.  Datamosh at Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart at AREA15

This bar at the well-known artist collective’s supernatural supermarket might be difficult to find – the staff has been instructed to not give directions! Located across from the “store’s” pharmacy, the space features eight specialty cocktails.

8.  The Laundry Room at Commonwealth

With space for only 22 at this Downtown hot spot, this is an exclusive speakeasy – so make reservations in advance! Located in the building housing the former laundry room of nearby El Cortez Hotel & Casino , this intimate lounge offers 27 craft cocktails to sip and savor.

9.  The Barbershop Cuts & Cocktails at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Getting a new ’do isn’t the only thing that happens at this lounge, where visitors can enter its secret bar via a pretend “janitor’s” door that’ll lead to another closet that then opens to the secret lounge. In addition to Prohibition era cocktails and surroundings, guests can enjoy live music nearly every night – and, if they want, a cut!

10.  1923 Prohibition Bar at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino

No password is necessary at this bourbon-centric, swanky, and secluded spot. Simply enter through a nondescript bookcase and be transported to yesteryear, where an extensive drink menu and live entertainment (including burlesque dancers and piano players) await.

11.  The Lock Speakeasy at Horseshoe Las Vegas

Find this spot within The Cabinet of Curiosities , where you’ll need to pick up a vintage-looking telephone to receive instructions on how to enter the space. Once inside the Prohibition-styled bar, enjoy a cocktail while listening to some cool jazz.

Because of the extreme heat, Ian our driver picked us up in a Tesla rather than a limo. I was happy because the a/c was fabulous in 108 degree weather! My husband was happy... well because it was a Tesla! Joannie was a great guide. She called me the day before to set up our pick up time and to go over the tour. She said we would go to the designated places on the tour but was open to other places we wanted to see and take pictures. We went to the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, drove down the strip, went to the famous Little White Wedding chapel, and drove thru downtown to see the older classic casinos. Joannie took our pictures at every stop, adding interesting facts and stories. It was a perfect afternoon to see the area and to see some of the famous landmarks we knew from movies and pictures. Ethel M has very good chocolate. We even had a few more tastings there. Ethel M also has 2 upgrade packages if you want to do premium chocolate and wine tasting or tasting class with premium tastings. If you opt to take this option Joni will come back and pick you up. The last stop was at Cafe Hollywood for a float. I also got a coupon for a hot chocolate at Dandelion Chocolate. This hot chocolate was not powdered hot chocolate it was real chocolate. The day selected was pretty warm, but not intolerably hot. Take weather outlook into consideration before scheduling. Here are my six favorite speakeasies in Las Vegas!

The Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails: A Themed Movie Bar Speakeasy

On the outside, The Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails looks like your average barbershop. From employees, barber chairs, a small waiting area, and a bar cart for customers to enjoy a drink while they wait, you wouldn’t think there was anything special about this spot. However, through the janitor’s closet, there is a hidden lounge.

The Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails has an old-school vibe with unique features, including a 100+-year-old mahogany bar and floor-to-ceiling art. The lounge has more than 150 whiskeys and bourbons from around the world. The mixologist will even provide you with a tasting to broaden your palate.

Location: The Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails is located inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Entrance: Look for the janitor’s door near the rear of the barbershop. This inconspicuous entrance leads to a prohibition-era-inspired hideaway lounge.

Atmosphere: The speakeasy offers a clandestine ambiance reminiscent of the Prohibition era, with live entertainment and an extensive whiskey selection.

Menu: Cocktails start at $18, and the menu includes small-bite offerings such as popcorn, pigs in a blanket, and mini lobster tacos. Signature dishes include spicy tuna and wings.

Hours: The speakeasy opens at 8 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Live music takes place at 10 p.m. daily.

Reservations: While reservations are not required for entry, you can make a reservation for bottle service or a private event at the speakeasy online.

1923 Prohibition Bar: An Exclusive Bourbon Lounge

1923 Prohibition Ba r is taking you back to the 1920s with their Prohibition-themed speakeasy. This lounge is only open Friday and Saturday evenings and can be found directly off the casino floor at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. The 1923 Prohibition Bar specializes in bourbon cocktails and offers 50 different bourbons and whiskeys.

Location: 1923 Prohibition Bar is located in Mandalay Bay at The Shoppes.

Entrance: The bar is situated upstairs from the House of Blues and adjacent to the Minus5 Ice Bar.

Atmosphere: The bar offers a private bourbon experience with live entertainment featuring piano players and burlesque dancers, capturing the essence of the Prohibition era.

Menu: Cocktails start at $18, featuring a selection of specialty concoctions reminiscent of the 1920s.

Hours: 1923 Prohibition Bar operates from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and extends until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Reservations: While the bar operates on a first-come, first-serve basis, VIP seating can be reserved in advance.

The Underground: A Prohibition-Era Distillery Speakeasy.

The Underground is located off the Las Vegas Strip but is well worth the drive. This lounge is not only one of the best Las Vegas speakeasies but also an immersive experience that takes you back to the Prohibition era.

This venue operates as a distillery and brewery and serves guest house-made moonshine and house-brewed beer. Be sure to check out the bookshelves and look out for hollowed-out books for a surprise. 

Location: The Underground is located downtown, underneath The Mob Museum.

Entrance: To gain entry, guests must first obtain the secret password of the day, which is available on the speakeasy’s website. Once obtained, they should find the outdoor stairwell leading to the museum’s side door. Knock, wait for the sliding peephole to open, and provide the secret password for admittance.

Atmosphere: The Underground offers a Prohibition-era ambiance, serving cocktails crafted with house-distilled moonshine and featuring plenty of artifacts from the 1920s and ’30s.

Menu: Cocktails start at $14, and the menu includes shareables like pretzel bites with beer cheese and a charcuterie plate.

Hours: The Underground is open from noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and noon to midnight Thursday through Sunday.

Reservations: Reservations are not required for entry.

Overall, The Underground provides a unique and immersive speakeasy experience within the historic setting of The Mob Museum, offering guests the opportunity to step back in time to the days of Prohibition with its secretive entrance, authentic decor, and specialty cocktails. This bar has been an absolute favorites of the Las Vegas speakeasies for a long time.

Ghost Donkey: A Mexican-Inspired Mezcal Lounge.

Hidden through a food hall, Ghost Donkey is a small bar that only seats 20 people. As one of our favorite Las Vegas speakeasies, this bar specializes in mezcals and tequila cocktails and has a limited food menu with their famous truffle nachos. Ghost Donkey is open daily at 4 pm, and be sure to get there at open to grab a seat. 

Location: Ghost Donkey is located on the second floor of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, tucked away inside the Block 16 Urban Food Hall.

Entrance: Look for the door adorned with a donkey logo, situated near the back of the seating area between Hattie B’s and Lardo.

Atmosphere: Ghost Donkey offers a hidden mezcal and tequila lounge experience, featuring cocktails and tasting flights made with traditional Mexican spirits and artisanal brands.

Menu: Cocktails start at $18, and the menu includes a variety of Mexican-inspired offerings such as truffle nachos with white cheddar sauce and chips and guacamole.

Hours: Ghost Donkey operates from 4 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and extends until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Overall, Ghost Donkey provides a unique and intimate speakeasy experience within The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, offering patrons a taste of Mexico with its extensive selection of mezcal and tequila-based cocktails in a hidden setting.

Here Kitty Kitty- One of The Newer Las Vegas Speakeasies

One of the newest speakeasies on the Las Vegas Strip is Here Kitty Kitty. Here Kitty Kitty is hidden behind a small convenience store called Ms. Meow’s Mamak. This storefront appears to be an average beverage and snack shop.

However, if you push on the blue shelf with the three lucky cats, you will enter an elegant lounge. Here Kitty Kitty offers a great mixology program and delicious bites. 

Location: Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den is located in Resorts World’s Famous Foods Street Eats food hall.

Entrance: Look behind the blue shelf lined with lucky cat sculptures at Ms. Meow’s Mamak Stall to find the entrance to the speakeasy.

Atmosphere: Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den offers a grunge-inspired speakeasy experience, providing a laid-back hangout with drinks inspired by the Prohibition era.

Menu: Cocktails start at $21, featuring a selection of handcrafted drinks reminiscent of the 1920s and ’30s.

Hours: The speakeasy opens at 4:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, closing “late,” according to its website.

Food: Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den does not offer food.

Overall, Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den provides a unique and relaxed speakeasy experience within Resorts World Las Vegas, offering patrons a nostalgic journey back to the Prohibition era with its grunge-inspired ambiance and specialty cocktails.

The Hangover Movie Bar Experience: Themed Movie Inspired Bar

The Hangover Movie Bar Experience is hidden in another Las Vegas strip attraction. If you are a Hangover movie fan like me, this is a place to checkout! The cocktail menu even references the movie with featured drinks such as “Baby Carlos Margarita” and “I Married A Whore” along with a full bar and frozen daiquiris.

Be sure to follow the tiger prints to find your wolf pack. This bar sets itself apart by being not only a place to drink, but by giving you an immersive experience into a classic film. It is no wonder this one made the list for the top 6 Las Vegas speakeasies!

Location: The Hangover Bar Experience is located at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas, which is situated on the Las Vegas Strip.

Concept: The Hangover Bar Experience is inspired by the hit movie “The Hangover” and recreates the scene where the characters Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug make a rooftop toast at Caesars Palace.

Design: The bar features industrial design elements reminiscent of the rooftop scene, including ducting tables and pipes, an aircon feature, and an LED backdrop of the Las Vegas skyline.

Menu: The bar offers custom Hangover-themed drinks such as Wolf Pack Shots, What Happened Last Night, and Tiger’s Blood.

Admission: Entry to The Hangover Bar Experience requires admission to Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. Beverages can be purchased separately or as part of a ticket combo package, which may include one cocktail or a half-hour of open bar service.

Attractions: The Hangover Bar Experience is the latest addition to Madame Tussauds Las Vegas and complements the existing Hangover Experience exhibit, featuring replicas of the hotel suite, wedding chapel, and wax figures of the characters from the movie.

It is a safe bet to say that you probably weren’t around during Prohibition (we are talking about 1920 – 1933 ish).  This was a time period in the US when alcohol was PROHIBITED, both the selling, the making, and the consuming of alcohol.

A Speakeasy was where these rules were broke n !   Alcoholic beverages were illegally sold and CONSUMED at a speakeasy. The speakeasy bars and their entrances were hidden so that the cops couldn’t catch those naughty law-breakers.

AND most commonly, the big bad guys of the area, like the mob, were involved in the running of the speakeasy…after all, illegal activities were their forte!

When Prohibition ended, speakeasies were no longer needed since alcohol consumption was legalized and allowed in the open public.  The fascination with establishments and the whole decade of the 1920s lives on in the hidden speakeasies in Las Vegas.

We stopped at the 1923 Prohibition Bar before our day of fun and frolic on the Las Vegas strip.  It was a hoot!  We figured out how to sneak into the speakeasy pretty quickly (there are instructions on the hidden bookcase) and were transported back to the bygone era of 1923.  I think this is one of the classiest hidden bars in Las Vegas.

Once inside, we were seated in our own little secluded parlor area next to the brightly lit ‘fireplace’ and given a drinks menu.  Our order was taken by the flapper waitress and our drinks were brought out asap while we chatted with each other while lounging on the sofa surrounded by illuminated candles.

They serve premium drinks and specialty cocktails here seven nights a week.  Live entertainment is an added feature on Friday and Saturday nights.

The 1923 Prohibition Bar was definitely an unforgettable experience for us while we celebrated my 50 th birthday in Las Vegas!

This relatively new speakeasy is hidden in Resort World near the casino floor.  The secret entrance is located within Famous Foods Street Eats, inside the Fuhu Cha Chaan Teng stall and it even has a secret password. 

PRO TIP:   The password is related to the Here Kitty Kitty name!!

The atmosphere in this speakeasy is upbeat and guests can enjoy a laidback lounge with over-the-top service to make for an enjoyable experience at this ‘World of Sin.’

Ghost Donkey is a unique cocktail lounge that serves up a New York City vibe and an extensive menu of mezcal, specialty cocktails made with Mexican spirits, tequila, and, of course, Cerveza.

Also on the menu is a large selection of snacks like guacamole and chips with their specialty being truffle nachos with white cheddar sauce that are to-die-for! 

To get to this hidden cocktail lounge in Las Vegas, you will head to the back of the food court on the second floor of the Cosmopolitan.  There are no signs for this speakeasy, just a small white ‘Ghost’ Donkey.  Go through the door to be taken to experience the flavors of Mexico!

The Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails speakeasy is another of the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas hidden bars.  The secret entrance to this speakeasy is through the working vintage barbershop located near the front of the casino.  After you get yourself looking all snazzy from the old-time barbers, sneak in the janitor door at the back of the shop. …Although a cut and a shave are not required for visiting this hidden bar in Las Vegas!

Beyond the janitor’s door, and behind a second metallic door is a swanky joint furnished with couches and serving up fine cocktails from the bar, definitely a classy place reminiscent of the nostalgic 1920s.  Stay for awhile and enjoy the live music provided every night.

This is not one of the Las Vegas hidden cocktail bars, but it is so unique that I had to include it.  The Speakeasy Barbershop is a hidden Barbershop in the El Cortez Hotel and Casino in Downtown Las Vegas.  You can find the entrance under a barber pole and through the secret door!

It is a full-on time machine back to the twenties offering services such as hot towels, straight razor shaves.

The Laundry Room is an exclusive hideaway in the Commonwealth Bar that is strictly reservation-only .  The clientele for one of the most posh hidden bars in Vegas must follow some stringent rules including no loud talking and no photography while a strict business casual dress code is enforced.

To find this hidden speakeasy in Las Vegas, look for the wood laundry sign out on Fremont Street across from the El Cortez Hotel. Inside you will often find a piano player and many internationally acclaimed cocktails.

The Underground

The Underground is the hidden speakeasy in the basement of the Mob Museum in downtown Las Vegas and probably one of the best hidden bars in Las Vegas.

The Mob Museum is the National Museum of Organized Crime housed in a 1933 former courthouse.  The location in the old courthouse is quite ironic! They even preserved one of the courtrooms and there is a ‘trial’ going on that you can sit in on.  The history of organized crime in Las Vegas and around the world is depicted in one-of-a-kind mob artifacts throughout the museum.

We spent the day at the Mob Museum in Las Vegas. There is a lot to learn about here. Hundreds of Made Men all making their mark in a bloody history.

We also signed up for the Use of Force Exhibition. We were trained in how to handle a confrontation and when to use force as an officer. We were instructed through several real-life scenarios, and it was very intense!! Too much for me to handle, but I thank those who dedicate their lives to upholding the law.

BOOK TICKETS TO VISIT THE MOB MUSEUM

After you hit up the history of the mob and learn all there is to know about John Gotti, head Underground to the best speakeasy in Las Vegas! –although admission to the Mob Museum isn’t required to visit the secret bar.

The Underground will not only serve you up a great cocktail, but they will continue your Mob Education with even more infographics and displays about the time period scattered through the lounge, including Flapper clothing that was worn in the 1920s.

For this secret restaurant in Las Vegas we are back at the Cosmopolitan Casino.  In addition to its 2 hidden speakeasy lounges, there is also a hidden restaurant in this hotel and casino!!

Secret Pizza is a hidden eatery with no signs directing patrons to its entrance, yet somehow it is always crowded and full of satisfied customers with bellies full of their delicious pizza slices.  The budget-conscious seek out this joint and are quite happy with their quick and frugal meals.

In order to find this hidden Las Vegas food gem, go to the back of the Cosmopolitan, and go up to the third floor.  Make sure you arrive after 11 am when the pizza joint opens, otherwise the secret entrance will not be revealed. On the third floor, you will find an unmarked hallway between Jaleo and Blue Ribbon that is filled from floor to ceiling with record album covers.  Follow that secret hallway and you will be led to the Pizzeria and their freshly made Secret Pizza pies!

Having celiac disease, I often find it difficult to travel to foreign destinations. Sometimes I need to research gluten-free restaurants, and other times, I find them by accident. I accompanied my husband on a business trip to Las Vegas and pre-planned our dinners together.

However, I’d wander the strip alone when he was in convention during the day. When needing to  eat gluten-free in Las Vegas ,  I stumbled upon “Flights” in the back of Miracle Mile Shops. A mall might seem like an odd place to eat compared to the trendy restaurants on the strip. 

However, its captivating aviation décor and its gluten-free choices enticed me to eat lunch there. Inside the restaurant, an airplane hangs from the ceiling, and flight attendants in uniform deliver the food.

To find Flights, enter the Miracle Mile Shops by the Sephora entrance (on the strip) and walk to the very back. You’ll find the restaurant and bar on the left-hand side. Flights restaurant opens from 9 am to 11 pm. Due to its obscure location, Flights was relatively empty the day I enjoyed lunch.

With an aviation theme, the eatery markets “Signature Flights” on its menu, offering a first-class upgrade with a complimentary glass of champagne. Alternatively, they sell a selection of flight drinks, from martinis and beers to mimosas and mojitos.

On the Flights’ menu, gluten-free options included beef sliders, BBQ ribs, skewers, chicken wings, and tacos. Being a meat eater, I chose the chicken wings consisting of nine wings in three flavors. All tasted great, but my preference was the spicy buffalo.

Skybar is one of Las Vegas’s best hidden food gems, providing one of the most stellar views of the lights of the Vegas Strip, all while tucked away in a sexy, secluded lounge. The lounge is accessed through the main lobby of the swanky Waldorf Astoria, which can be found in the heart of the Strip- simply take the elevator to the 23rd floor.

While this bar generally flies under the radar, I always try to come around dusk to snag one of the cocktail tables right against the floor-to-ceiling windows. From here, I love the jaw-dropping views of the chaos of the Strip below, including Aria, Paris, the Bellagio, and the other iconic Las Vegas hotels , as their lights flicker to life. 

Skybar feels a lot sleeker and upscale than some of the over-the-top casinos found along Las Vegas Boulevard and the drink menu reflects that, with expertly hand-crafted cocktails, fine wines, and even some more playful options, like an ultra-premium tequila flight. I always pick one of their Vegas-themed cocktails, like the Atomic, which used to be drunk by viewers of the mushroom clouds at the nearby atomic bomb testing facility, as I take in the lights of the city below.

Why do you call bars speakeasy?

A fun fact I learned right here, a homegrown answer from the  Mob Museum  in Downtown Las Vegas: 

During the Prohibition Era, patrons were told to “speak easy” about the secret bars in public. Speakeasies received their name from police officers (AKA “Metro,” if you live in Vegas), who had trouble locating the bars because people tended to speak quietly while inside.

So, while prohibition may have ended some 90 years ago, speakeasies are still going strong in Las Vegas! So don’t be surprised when you hear folks on The Strip asking questions like this:

“Hey, how do you find Ghost Donkey?” Or, “Why are so many people waiting in line at that barbershop?” (IYKYK!)

Does Bellagio have a speakeasy?

Hidden away within Bellagio is The Vault . Seating is limited and reserved only for the few. Although its location is more hidden than other Vegas bars classified as speakeasies, Bellagio’s The Vault’s entrance seems to only be revealed on a need-to-know basis!

Where to look for The Vault ? You can look for an inconspicuous door just left of the area of the gaming floor with the casino cage. If you happen to spy a doorman standing in an inconspicuous spot, ask for Charlotte!

Even though Bellagio doesn’t categorize The Vault as a speakeasy, its location is even more hidden than other Vegas bars under the speakeasy tag.

Post-pandemic, many of the major entertainment venues and slots in Las Vegas were custom-designed and redesigned as cashless facilities and machines (i.e.,  Sphere , Allegiant Stadium, and casinos on The Strip). Still, the average price for a Las Vegas vacation is about $250 a day, including hotels and restaurants.

Secret sips: 7 top speakeasies in Las Vegas

The moody lounges hide behind shelves, vault doors, tequila lockers, doughnuts and more.

There’s something about sub rosa spirits, down-low cocktails, sipping on the QT.

Hence the ongoing popularity of modern speakeasies, the descendants of hidden Prohibition-era establishments serving illicit hooch. The illicit part is long gone, but the hidden aspect remains. Not surprising, Las Vegas, a global destination for mixology, has some of the best modern speakeasies in the U.S.

Here seven spots celebrating secret pours. Knock knock. Password, please.

The Barbershop Cuts & Cocktails in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Head past the boys enjoying evening trims to their beards (yes, this is a working barbershop), then look for the janitor’s door. Through the door, there’s a ritzy chandeliered space serving Spiked Juices (the menu designation for cocktails), shots, beer, and spirits by the bottle. A menu of light bites and snacks (try the mini lamb gyros) balances the buzz.

Chez Bippy in Luchini at the MGM Grand. Chez Bippy, the hangout in “A Bronx Tale,” the 1993 crime drama from Robert De Niro, lends its name to this bar within Luchini. From the restaurant, a brick portal lined with candy machines leads to a space with red velvet drapes, arched bronze mirrors, plush banquettes, a disco ball chandelier, and glowing fringed pendants above the bar. Have a go at the smoked Boulevardier with pepperoncini-infused vodka.

Easy’s Cocktail Lounge in Proper Eats food hall at Aria. Go to the Easy Donuts counter, then look closely at the sign. The smaller letters SPEAK are set between the larger letters EASY. The wordplay nods to the lounge hidden behind the doughnuts. The moody speakeasy features live music and several cocktails that are justly described as Show Stoppers. Consider a Heart of the Ocean built with tequila and served on sea shells, sand and blossoms. There’s also caviar service.

Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den in Fuhu Cha Chan Teng in Resorts World. Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den, which has one of the best names ever for a bar, takes seriously the hidden part of speakeasy. Blue shelves holding lucky golden cats with upraised paws (maneki neko) also double as the door to the bar. Inside, you’ll find a space inspired by Asian street art, with specialty cocktails and a host of spirits by the pour, including several Asian whiskies.

The Laundry Room in Commonwealth in downtown Vegas. You’ll need to make reservations at laundryroomlv.com because fewer than two dozen people are admitted (so bartenders can craft a top-notch cocktail outing). The Laundry Room lies beneath a stairwell. The name nods to its former life as the laundry room for El Cortez across the street. The speakeasy serves house cocktails; bartenders also mix drinks to taste. So, what can you make me with Cynar?

The Lock in The Cabinet of Curiosities at Horseshoe Las Vegas. First, reserve a table at thelocklv.com . When you arrive, pick up the vintage telephone beside the vault-style door, then tell the person who answers you have a reservation. The next steps for entering involve knocks, a password and codes, but there’s assistance if you need it. Ask the bartender to craft a cocktail based on your mood and preferences. There’s a VIP Room behind a painting in The Lock you can reserve, too.

Wax Rabbit in Mijo Modern Mexican Restaurant at Durango. Wax Rabbit debuted with the launch of the lavish property. Outside the speakeasy lies a vault with floor-to-ceiling tequila lockers; each sports a rabbit head above and below. Imbibers must pull the right rabbit to pass into the speakeasy, where they’ll find arched double-height mirrors and cocktails, like a Oaxacan old-fashioned, that harness the spirits and flavors of Mexico.

After your first drink, your walking tour begins along famous Fremont Street—the beating heart of early-days Las Vegas. The Famous Foods Street Eats area at Resorts World looks just like a food court, but it’s not. Behind Ms. Meow’s Mamak convenience store is the passageway into Here Kitty Kitty speakeasy. Give the shelf in the store stocked with potato chips a light push, and you’re in. 

The decor and cocktails are highly influenced by Singapore . Drinks range from sweet to strong, and when it comes to The Golden Ticket, this delectable $150 aged scotch drink is downright impressive. 

2. Ghost Donkey

Block 16 in the glamorous Cosmopolitan hotel offers entry into the Ghost Donkey speakeasy. Just look for the green door adorned with a white donkey, and you’ll know you’re in the right place. 

The space is very intimate, only offering seating for a handful of people. It captures a true speakeasy vibe with dim lighting, often thanks to dangling Christmas lights. 

Specializing in mezcal and tequila, agave spirits can be enjoyed on their own or in various cocktails. It should be known that the Truffle Nachos should not be missed!

3. Datamosh 

Datamosh offers a very unique speakeasy experience. Start your supernatural adventure at Omega Mart, a parody of a grocery store located at AREA 15. You’ll be on your own to discover the entry into the speakeasy, just make your way toward the pharmacy. 

A trippy space adorned with neon lights and black leather stools aims to set the scene of a pharmacy in a far-off dimension. Guests can choose from seven unique and interesting cosmic cocktails like The Source and Old Fashioned Spray, a blue Windex version of the classic drink. 

4. The Laundry Room

Rich and warm, The Laundry Room captures a real prohibition vibe. This speakeasy is hidden within the walls of the popular Fremont East bar, Commonwealth. It features dim lantern lighting and long bars and stools. 

There’s only room for a couple dozen people in this space, making it a very exclusive spot to spend some time in Las Vegas. Reservations are required to peruse this space and enjoy some of their 27 different delectable libations. If nothing on the menu strikes your fancy, create a custom drink with the bartender to fit your mood. 

5. Barbershop Cuts & Cocktails

Barbershop Cuts & Cocktails is a business that runs a double life. Well known for being an excellent place for men to get a trim or a stellar shave, this barbershop in The Cosmopolitan Hotel takes on an entirely different persona once the sun goes down. 

Visitors can access the speakeasy through a “Janitor” door on the back of the building. The dark whiskey lounge is cozy yet slightly whimsical, featuring different styles of chandeliers and vintage furniture. 

Favorite drinks here include Mustache Ride, Bonnie + Clyde, and Six String Sling. It’s also a great spot to enjoy some soothing live music. 

Guests enter in the back, which opens up to a dark and seductive whiskey lounge with a stage for live music. 

6. 1923 Prohibition Bar

1923 Prohibition Bar is located in a small space on the second floor of The Shoppes at Mandalay Bay , near Minus 5 Ice Bar. Once there, you’ll spy an out-of-place bookshelf. Give it a knock and walk into your adventure. 

This bourbon bar is decked out with time-appropriate decor, all echoing 20s influence. Chandeliers and brick walls really work to enhance the seclusion of the space while also transporting guests back in time. 

Weekends offer live music and burlesque dancers, making for a night to remember!  

7. The Lock at Cabinet of Curiosities

The Cabinet of Curiosities is a unique bar located at the Horseshoe Las Vegas (formerly Bally’s). Tourists who wish to check out The Lock must first explore this bar. Inside, guests may stumble upon a vintage telephone. Pick it up to retrieve secret info on how to make your way into The Lock. 

Travel through a bank vault or, for the more adventurous types, a crawl space to gain entry into this shadowy speakeasy. There’s a set menu, but keep in mind that The Lock is also known for its custom cocktails. Guests can physically fill out a custom order ballot to create their dream drink based on how they are feeling and their favorite places in the world. 

8. Mas Por Favor

Más Por Favor is a great place to pick up some Mexican food in the Chinatown portion of Las Vegas . The storefront is unassuming, but if you mention the phrase “tonight’s delight” to the taqueria employee, you’re in for quite the surprise. 

This code will activate an usher who will lead you down a secret tunnel hallway, depicted to resemble a drug tunnel complete with bags of imitation drugs lining the walkway. 

The drinks here are mainly tequila and mezcal-based but pack an array of delectable flavors. Margaritas are, of course, a favorite at this joint! 

9. Easy’s 

Proper Eats Food Hall in the Aria Hotel looks like a typical food court. But behind the Easy Donuts & Coffee desk is a highbrow bar and lounge. Easy’s specializes in cocktails and caviar. The space is intimate and often features live Jazz music.  

A mixture of classic taste and modernity, the menu here features traditional cocktails as well as inventive and entertaining options, depending on what you’re in the mood for. 

10. Pier 17 Yacht Club 

Caesar’s Palace is home to Vegas’ Green Fairy Garden, and hidden in its greenery is Pier 17 Yacht Club. The decor and atmosphere are nautical-themed. Space is limited, but luckily there’s extended seating on the terrace outside. 

If you like mezcal, be sure to try the Tantric Turnbuckle.  And if you’re hungry, their No Pants Burger is sure to impress. As for entertainment, this spot opts for DJ’d rock classics as opposed to live music. 

11. The Underground 

The Underground speakeasy is ironically located in the basement of the National Museum for Organized Crime & Law Enforcement. Styled after prohibition time, from decor to mood lighting, there are traces of the roaring twenties everywhere. 

Drinks are varied and delicious, from prohibition-era classics like Southside Gin Mojitos and Old Fashioneds. They even have their very own moonshine bottled right on the property. 

12. The Parlor Room

The Parlor Room is a hidden lounge at Bavette’s Steakhouse at Park MGM. All about glitz and glamour, this speakeasy is immaculately decorated with vintage furniture, chandeliers, and artwork. The drink menu is heavy-handed on scotch and martinis. It’s a cozy spot to spend a relaxed evening.

To find the best hidden bars in Las Vegas, you’ll need to do some sleuthing. Many don’t advertise the location, and you may need to know a password to get in. But once you step through the door, you’ll be transported in a way that makes all the effort worth it.

Beyond the glitz and glamor of Resorts World is a darkly lit, devilishly fun Las Vegas speakeasy. Kitty Kitty Vice Den is an entertaining and flirty speakeasy with a Singaporean twist to its decor and drinks menu. It’s equal parts elegant and laid back, offering visitors top-shelf cocktails while inviting them to leave their troubles at the (hidden) door. It’s an intimate setting with limited seating, so you may have to wait for a spot to open up, but once you’re invited in, you’ll want to try the Pancakes and Dopamine. It’s a perfect mix of Havana Club Anejo Clasico Rum, banana, lime, and golden brown sugar.

How to get in: No password needed at Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den — simply locate the Famous Food Street Eats food court and look for the blue shelving unit near Ms. Meow’s Mamak Stall with three lucky cats waving you in. That’s the door. Locate the host and get ready for fun.

1923 Prohibition Bar

If you’re longing for the finer things in life — such as an extensive list of high-end whiskey, extravagant live entertainment, and a private room for premium cigars — then head to 1923 Prohibition Bar. It’s located under a set of escalators inside Mandalay Bay, and that’s the only unassuming thing about this stunning lounge. The bar aims to take visitors back to a version of 1920s New Orleans with deep oak finishes, high back lounge seating, dark lighting, and soul music. Weekends are when the bar really springs to life with NOLA nights that pay homage to the French Quarter with lively musical numbers and sultry burlesque dancing. There’s no reservations (except for VIP experiences) so it’s first-come, first-serve.

Whiskey is the star of the 1923 Prohibition Bar with popular selections like Bulleit, Four Roses, and Whistle Pig. The luxury choices such as Yamazaki 18, Smoke Wagon, and Pappy Van Winkle 23 offer something out of the ordinary that even whiskey geeks likely haven’t tried.

How to get in: Inside Mandalay Bay you’ll find a set of escalators that lead up to a variety of shops. Under these escalators, locate the bookcase. Push it open, and you’re in. No password is needed.

Ghost Donkey

Ghost Donkey is a bit hard to find, but its drinks pack quite a kick. Once you find your way into this sleek lounge, you’ll note that it’s less Gatsby and more Mexico, which is a welcomed change of pace in Vegas. Don’t visit Ghost Donkey looking for a wide variety of beers. This is a mezcal and tequila hot spot with daring drinks and inspired food choices. Want a spicy kick? The Mezcal Sun-Risa is a blend of Codigo Blanco Tequila, Montelobos Mezcal, bitter orange, habanero, and hibiscus. It’s not for the faint of taste but will leave you with a story to tell your friends back home. Ghost Donkey also serves platters of nachos, the most popular being those with black truffles.

How to get in: Head to level two of Boulevard Tower at The Cosmopolitan. Locate the door with a pink donkey painted on the front and you will have found the entrance. It’s first-come, first-served, and it’s open late.

And while the confines of Commonwealth are where most visitors stop, true spirit seekers need to search for the hidden bar inside, called The Laundry Room.

The Laundry Room is a small Las Vegas speakeasy found behind a hidden door within the Commonwealth. Once you’ve found your way in, a world of gilded opulence becomes accessible with walls decorated by sepia-toned photos, gold-trimmed metal work, fun cocktail names, and the welcoming nod of a bartender who will guide you on a flavor odyssey.

On a warmer evening, you’ll want to ask for a Back in Kokomo. It’s a frothy and fuzzy tropical creation of gin (or whiskey), falernum, lemon, and passion fruit that instantly reminds you of that island bar memory you keep tucked away in the happy place of your mind. For mezcal lovers, the I Remember Forgetting This blends rye, mezcal, allspice, lime, and maple that leaves you with a rich, warm smoke sensation. You’ll be motioning for another round before reaching the bottom of the glass.

At the front is a traditional taqueria serving delicious tacos with combinations such as Muy Caliente, which takes chipotle, Flamin’ Hot Snacks, sour cream, and white cheddar and combines it with your pick of protein to create a spicy delicacy you rarely find in the world of tacos. These offerings make Más Por Favor a local favorite, but there’s more to this taco shop. Try the popular Dragonfly, a blend of vodka, lemon, cilantro, and house-made sunflower seed syrup. It’s not only tasty but beautiful to look at.

In the basement of The Mob Museum near downtown Las Vegas, you’ll find the godfather of the Las Vegas speakeasy. The Underground is a speakeasy and distillery where you can sip on ice cold gin while also learning how moonshine is created and why you don’t go snitching to the FBI about the process.

Prohibition era exhibits surround you in the speakeasy, so you’ll learn about important figures in the rise of the illicit alcohol trade, including iconic women like Mary Louise Cecilia “Texas” Guinan and Belle Livingstone.

History buffs will want to sip on a Bathtub Fizz, which mixes gin, sloe gin, Aperol, sugar, lemon, egg white, and bitters and is served in a small bathtub. It reflects a time when bootleggers leased small stills to individuals so they could make booze in their bathrooms, giving way to the term “bathtub gin.” The very real working distillery in the next room allows you to sample and take home a few bottles of local favorites like Cinn-City Moonshine or Ginger Jake Moonshine.

How to get in: If you want to experience The Mob Museum, purchase a ticket and you’ll get access to The Underground as well. But if you want to skip the artifacts and head straight to the liquor, then find the secret door down a flight of steps outside the building off of Stewart Avenue. Knock on the door, speak the password (found on the website), and you’re good to go.

Mike Morey’s Sip’N’Tip is the quintessential hidden bar that views itself more of a “speak-UP” rather than a speakeasy. The Sip’N’Tip is a haven for those locals in the service industry as well as travelers in the know. It’s located in the back half of the Downtown Cocktail Room, which is just steps away from the world famous Fremont Street Experience.

Both places are locally renowned, so you can’t go wrong with either, but Sip’N’Tip has its own menu, which changes regularly and is always offering something different. When you make your way in, put some old rock on the jukebox and try the namesake drink The Morey, which blends old Tom gin, dry vermouth, and orange bitters. The happy hour also can’t be beat, so you’ll want to check out times frequently to plan your visit accordingly for incredible prices on cocktails.

How to get in: You can enter the Downtown Cocktail Room and make your way to the back, or skip the front entrance and head down the ART Alleyway and see the big glowing “Mike Morey’s Sip’N’Tip” sign and there’s your entrance.

The Lock is a hidden Las Vegas bar located inside The Cabinet of Curiosities in Bally’s. Inside this secret area, the expert mixologists have a fun-filled variety of choices to choose from, including classic cocktails and new takes on old favorites, but to really set things in motion you’ll want to order a custom creation. This is when the mad scientists behind the bar will hand you a secret menu order form in which you’ll mark down your favorite destination, zodiac element, and style. How to get in: You have a better chance of getting into The Cabinet of Curiosities if you make a reservation. Once inside, the locksmith will help you crack the codes to gain entrance into The Lock.

Everything about Omega Mart at AREA15 is immersive and eccentric. It’s filled to the brim with hidden passages, optical illusions that test your senses, and interactive artwork designed to fool the mind while sparking your curiosity. This includes the hidden bar Datamosh and its handful of odd cocktails. It’s every bit secret bar meets art exhibit, and unlike many of the other “hidden bars” in Vegas, this one doesn’t have a website or dedicated social media accounts. It’s bizarre and fun, peculiar and marvelous, and is easily one of the best experiences you can have in Las Vegas.

Guests can play it safe with an Omegarita (tequila blanco, mezcal, ginger, agave, citrus, bitter blend, and fire water), and that’s totally acceptable. But you’re not visiting Datamosh because you like ordinary things. Go with The Source, a blend of mezcal, Lillet Blanc, shiso, tarragon syrup, citrus, and rosemary for a drink that not only tastes great but foams up, giving you reason to break out the camera. Or maybe test the norms by sampling an Old Fashioned Spray which may or may not look like it came straight out of a bottle of Windex cleaning solution.

How to get in: This secret bar is in the north end of the Omega Mart grocery store section.

A short trip down an alley between Sixth Street and Las Vegas Boulevard reveals the entrance to Mike Morey’s Sip’n’Tip. The theatrics begin right at the door at this mobster-era-themed Italian restaurant. Ring the bell and expect a mafia boss type to slide open a small wooden window and grill you about your purpose there. After he leads you through the side entrance, settle in for a dinner that boasts of pasta with Al Capone’s Family Secret sauces inside a dark restaurant with live music.

Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den

A small newspaper stand inside the Famous Foods Street Eats food hall has one bookshelf that’s not like the others. Give it a push, and it gives way to the Tokyo Vice Den — an elegant pop-up, filled with Japanese-inspired décor and tasty themed beverages.

Omega Mart at Area15 hordes a lot of secrets — starting with the jungle gym wonderland that lies behind the seemingly normal grocery store. But the immersive art installation also houses a bar. Many of the drinks are as wacky as the rest of Meow Wolf’s metaverse, with drinks that bubble, smoke, and spray. You’ll need tickets to Omega Mart to get in.

Yaki-ba at Yui Sushi

Yaki-ba is an under-the-radar chef’s table experience at Yui Sushi. Only two tables are available in this hidden, reservations-only back room of the restaurant. Those who seek out Yaki-ba will find a five-course dinner centered around certified Wagyu beef, which is available in four-ounce or seven-ounce portions. You’ll know you made it when mural-filled walls, flower arches, and chandeliers come into view. Sure, you can still order tacos. But also find specialty dishes such as the Goin’ in Deep with ground beef pico, white cheddar, and jalapeno, all Injected with nacho cheese and sour cream in an empanada shell.

Eat and Drink Your Way Through Mardi Gras

Easy’s is a truly excellent speakeasy experience. From the Proper Eats food hall at the Aria, find the small doughnut and coffee stand. You’ll need either a reservation or to ask very nicely in order to walk behind the cappuccino machine and into a back hallway. From there, you’ll find yourself in a super luxurious lounge with cozy banquettes and live music. Yeah, you could order a regular cocktail. But check the menu for libations like those with ice-mold teddy bears, candy cigarettes, and mushroom-shaped glassware.

The drinks here skew sophisticated, with suggestive names but classic flavors. While you’re at it, order a surprisingly great burger from No Pants.

The Cabinet of Curiosities

The Cabinet of Curiosities is equal parts bar and scavenger hunt, in which the myriad oddities scattered around the room all contribute to an overarching story. The Lock is an intimate speakeasy within the Cabinet. To gain entry, a visitor must find the Locksmith and solve one of two hidden puzzles.

A private room next to Jaleo’s bar holds a luxurious, performative dinner experience. The exclusive é by José Andrés offers only two seatings per night Tuesday through Sunday at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. At $290 or $490 per person, diners are enchanted by 20 courses that are as visually astounding as they are delicious. The dining room only seats eight and tickets to é by José Andrés become available three months in advance. Open Tuesday through Saturday with two shows per night, at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The secret tequila and mezcal bar is located inside Block 16 Urban Food Hall at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas behind an easy-to-miss door that’s marked with a simple donkey illustration. Inside, the bar is decked out in glowing red string lights and floral and donkey artwork. The tiny space offers limited seating and a robust selection of tequila and mezcal, plus speciality cocktails and nachos with eclectic toppings such as wild mushrooms, tripe, and black truffle.

Secret pizza.

Late at night at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, it’s not uncommon to witness a curious sight: crowds of people disappearing into a narrow, nondescript hallway. This is the unmarked entrance to Secret Pizza, technically named The Pizzeria, an after-hours pizza eatery with New York-style slices plus beer. In other words, it’s the perfect drunken discovery.

LAS VEGAS — Shhhh… we have a secret. Or several. Sin City has its fair share of spectacular encounters, advertised on glittering billboards across the city, but some of the activities are kept hush hush — and the fun is in finding them.

Speakeasies, a throwback to the 1920s when alcohol was banned and clever partiers headed for hidden bars to imbibe bathtub gin, have been enjoying a reemergence, so to speak. Ninety years after the end of Prohibition, these cozy hotspots are tucked away in alleyways, behind bookcases and behind unmarked doors. And Las Vegas is teeming with hidden bars and secret restaurants.

Now, we’re sharing the lowdown on some of our favorites on and off The Strip.

Perhaps the most well-known speakeasy — a personal fave that commits to the theme of the era — is The Underground at Las Vegas’ Mob Museum. Trek through the museum first, where exhibits and interactive experiences teach visitors about mob bosses, organized crime and law enforcement. Then head down to the basement for a drink.

The Underground offers a full bar, a distillery and a cocktail parlor hidden behind a wall. Grab a seat and order up a Prohibition-era cocktail, a gin-based Bee’s Knees, perhaps, which comes with a side of Charleston dance history, or a Bathtub Fizz — served in a little bathtub.

Not visiting the museum today? There’s a secret entrance at the bottom of a nondescript set of stairs outside, but you’ll need a password to get in. (Fortunately, the Mob Museum posts that key detail on its social media .)

Across the street from the famous El Cortez Hotel, you’ll find The Laundry Room tucked inside what is now the Commonwealth Bar. Or rather, the Laundry Room will find you — and reservations are essential. Stroll into the bar, text the speakeasy and wait for a hostess to take you back in time to the Prohibition era. The space, a former laundry, of course, is decked out in 1920s style with space for just 22 guests. One of the city’s most popular speakeasies, this one comes complete with bespoke cocktails, a dress code and rules of decorum — including quiet voices, no smoking and no standing at the bar.

The Cosmopolitan, the very modern, purple-hued high-rise on The Strip, has surprises around every corner and quite possibly the most speakeasies per square foot. The resort’s Superfrico — the “Italian American psychedelic” dining venue from Spiegelworld, which opened in 2021 — will send your senses into overdrive as performers dance their way among the tables at random intervals. If you know where to go within this eye-popping venue, things get even more eccentric. Step through the doors of Superfrico’s hidden Ski Lodge, and you’re transported to a mountain ski lodge where penguins (or rather, humans dressed as penguins) show up for photo ops and the “windows” always depict a snowy scene.

Other Cosmopolitan hideaways include Ghost Donkey, a tacos and tequila concept tucked behind a door, unmarked save for the image of a colorful donkey, in the hotel’s Block 16 Urban Food Hall. And Secret Pizza, where you can get pizza by the slice ($6.50 and up) until 4 a.m., may be one of the least expensive meals in town, if you can find it. Look for the record-lined hallway — or the long line.

Long lines queue up outside the hotel’s Barbershop, too. Yes, you can get your hair cut here. But if you head for the janitor’s closet at the back of the shop, you’ll find yourself in a stylish speakeasy with high-end craft cocktails and karaoke or live music, depending on the day of the week. (Psst, you’ll need reservations.)

It’s not just bars that are hidden away. The hotel’s pawn shop entrance is actually a front for New York chef Chris Santos’ Beauty & Essex restaurant, where you can dine on oysters from the raw bar ($48 for a dozen), roasted bone marrow ($32) and Mexican street corn ravioli ($26).

Resorts World Las Vegas, one of the strip’s newer properties, has its own hidden agendas, including a new tequila-centric Jalisco Underground, next to Wally’s Wine & Spirits, and the Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den. A wall of lucky cats camouflages the latter at Fuhu Cha Chaan Teng in the resort’s Famous Food Street Eats area. Stop by the host stand, and you’ll be escorted through a concealed passageway and into an intimate, dimly lit bar that serves up creative, signature cocktails, including at least one with a risque garnish. (This is Vegas, after all.)

If you’re heading to some of Las Vegas’ other attractions, take a detour to The Cabinet of Curiosities. The same makers behind the Real Bodies and Discovering King Tut’s Tomb exhibits have created a bar just outside Bally’s. It’s filled with strange knickknacks — with QR codes so you can learn more — and it holds the entrance to The Lock, a speakeasy concealed behind a bank vault door. Bedazzled Skullcap Mojito, anyone?

Area 15 has its own speakeasy, too. You’ll need admission to Omega Mart, the spectacular — and spectacularly surreal — Meow Wolf exhibit that masks itself as a freaky grocery store. Hidden somewhere inside is Datamosh, a bar modeled after what creators imagine a pharmacy would look like in another dimension. The cocktails here are almost as crazy looking as the space itself, served in off-balance glasses — that will keep you off balance, too.

The Underground Speakeasy: The Mob Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at 300 Stewart Ave. in Las Vegas. The speakeasy opens at noon and closes at 10 p.m. or midnight, depending on the day of the week. Museum tickets start at $30. Seeking out unique experiences should be atop your list in Las Vegas, and few things are more unique than grabbing a drink at a hidden speakeasy.

While craft cocktails tend to be the main attraction, there’s also something special about feeling “in the know” or like an “insider” that you can’t get from any old bar.

Strutting through the obscure, clandestine, and often camouflaged doors listed below will leave you feeling like a local. A Las Vegas regular. Someone who knows things.

You’re going to be shocked at how many have been hiding in plain sight during your previous visits.

Below, I’ll share where you can find them, along with images depicting how to get in.

Speakeasies On The Strip

Ghost donkey at cosmopolitan.

Nestled in the seating area of the Block 16 Urban Food Hall at Cosmopolitan is the Ghost Donkey speakeasy. The door to get in is easy to find if you know what you’re looking for – a white donkey (pictured below).

Inside, you’ll discover a small mezcal and tequila lounge with about 20 seats. Most craft cocktails on the drink menu are $17.

Recently, I opted for the spicy and sweet Pisterolo, which was fantastic.

In addition to drinks, a few nacho options are available including their popular Truffle Nachos. Ghost Donkey opens at 4 pm daily, which is a great time to swing by to ensure you can snag a seat.

The Barbershop at Cosmopolitan

Found just inside Cosmopolitan’s north entrance (closest to Bellagio) is The Barbershop, which specializes in both haircuts and cocktails. To those not “in the know” The Barbershop is just that, a working barbershop.

What many don’t realize, however, is that the non-descript “Janitor” door in the back left corner leads to a stunning speakeasy bar, pictured below.

Live entertainment is common, and The Barbershop’s events calendar can be viewed here, along with the drink menu and reservation portal. With most cocktails costing under $20, and 22 oz. draft beer priced at around $10, this speakeasy experience on the Strip is well worth the cash outlay.

On a humorous side note, I stopped by one morning to snap a few photos before the bar was packed. I asked an employee if I could get into the speakeasy to take a picture and they kindly obliged.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t watching where I was going and bumped into a barber in the process of giving a haircut. The bump caused him to shave a chunk of hair off in error. Oops.

Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den at Resorts World

The Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den is nestled in the Famous Foods Street Eats food court at Resorts World.

Acting as a front is Fuhu Cha Chaan Teng, which simply appears to be another restaurant in the food court to the unsuspecting passerby.

The blue shelving unit to the right of the cash register with the large golden lucky cat on it serves as the door that opens up to the gorgeous and intimate lounge pictured below.

Inside, the team of craft mixologists can concoct whatever vice you seek.

The Ski Lodge at Cosmopolitan

This hidden speakeasy is a part of Superfrico, a restaurant at Cosmopolitan, and can be found on level 2 of the resort’s Chelsea Tower.

Uniquely, the lounge’s theme is… well… you guessed it… a ski lodge and the crown jewel of the decor strategy is faux “windows” behind the bar with a snowy landscape view.

Once on Cosmo’s second level, make your way to Superfrico and find the secret entrance, pictured below.

Once inside, you’re transported far from the desert and Las Vegas to a snowy mountain retreat.

The Lock at Horseshoe

The newest speakeasy on the Strip can be found within the Cabinet of Curiosities lounge at Horseshoe.

The entrance to the speakeasy is essentially a vault door with an illuminated key above it and a metal wheel on the door.

You can’t miss it as it’s not exactly hidden, or disguised in any way.

To get in, you’ll need reservations, which can be made here .

Once you arrive, use the “old-timey” phone next to the secret door to gain entrance. The person on the other end will tell you when to knock, and what the password is.

You can also use that phone to gauge availability if you didn’t make a reservation.

Once you provide the password at the main exterior door, you’ll be escorted into a small room with safes all over the wall (pictured below).

There, your next task will be to find the combination to open one of two doors that open up to the speakeasy.

Both doors have a combination that begins with zero + three odd or even digits.

Zero + three even digits open the small black speakeasy door in the bottom left of the photo below.

Zero + three odd digits open the large silver door into the speakeasy in the center of the photo below.

To find the digits, you’ll need to open up all of the little safe doors around the room. Some doors are welded shut, but others open and have a single digit in them. Find 3 odd or even digits and you’ve got your passcode.

Don’t worry if you’re confused (as I was), there will be an employee there to assist you!

Inside The Lock, mixologists prefer to use their imagination to create a cocktail specific to your tastes, interests, preferred vacation destination, and even your zodiac sign.

Easy’s Cocktail Lounge at Aria

Calling Aria’s Proper Eats Food Hall Home, Easy’s Cocktail Lounge is hidden behind a donut and coffee counter of the same name.

Once inside, guests are transported to the prohibition era and treated to live jazz music nightly.

On the menu are cocktails ranging from a basic old-fashioned to a number of “Show Stoppers”, like the “Smoke Show” pictured below, which combines cocktails with an impressive presentation.

The Count Room at Flamingo

Part of Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse, The Count Room’s doorway can be found to the right of Flamingo’s food court.

You’ll know you’re in the right place if you see the door pictured below:

Once inside, follow the path into the lounge area, which has a dark, elegant vibe and boasts prohibition-era decor that pays homage to early Las Vegas and the mob’s influence.

I recommend stopping in on Friday or Saturday night after 8:30 pm when “The Moonshiners” take the stage. I recently caught a show and was blown away by their ability to make modern hit songs sound as though they originated in the 1920s.

1923 Prohibition Bar at Mandalay Bay

Unlike other speakeasies in Las Vegas, 1923 Prohibition Bar’s presence is clearly labeled to passersby.

Located in the Shops at Mandalay Bay, the 1920’s themed lounge can be found in the hallway that connects Mandalay Bay to Luxor.

Although the bar has a prominent storefront, the door to enter is a bookcase, keeping with the speakeasy theme.

While the drink menu at 1923 has much to offer, I found the decor and ambiance to be the main attraction, with numerous artifacts and throwbacks to the Prohibition era.

Speakeasies in Downtown Las Vegas

“The Underground”, a speakeasy in the basement of the Mob Museum, serves craft cocktails while also educating guests about the time period it depicts.

Aside from the drinks, my favorite aspect of The Underground is the numerous displays and placards found around the room that communicate information about the prohibition era.

While I’d also encourage you to visit the Mob Museum , admission isn’t required to visit The Underground.

The speakeasy can be accessed from both inside and outside.

To access the speakeasy from the inside, walk into the Mob Museum and let an employee know you want to visit The Underground. They’ll happily point you in the right direction.

For the full speakeasy experience, I recommend using the secret door on the outside of the building (pictured below). You’ll know you’re in the right place when you spot the wooden barrel that denotes the entrance.

The Laundry Room

Accessible via a discreet entryway inside the Commonwealth bar on Fremont East across the street from El Cortez, The Laundry Room is an intimate throwback to the prohibition era.

With seating for only 22 available, admission to this downtown speakeasy is limited to reservation holders only ( reservations can be made online here ).

With 27 signature cocktails on the menu, The Laundry Room is open daily from 6 pm – Late. The speakeasy entrance is marked with a wooden laundry pin.

You’ll want to note some pretty specific rules you’ll need to adhere to at the Laundry Room. Specifically, there is no photography or loud talking allowed. A business casual dress code is also enforced.

Hopefully, one of the above speakeasies in Las Vegas will fit your needs! Although a good chunk of Las vegas regulars are clued into their existence, there is still something special and exclusive about accessing a hidden bar that many, if not most people, don’t know about.

There’s a Taylor Swift interview that floats around on social media from time to time where she talks about enjoying things, like genuinely enjoying things. And how that’s okay.

She says , “I don’t think you should ever have to apologize for your excitement. Just because it’s like, I don’t know, just because something’s cliché doesn’t mean that it’s not something that’s awesome. The worst kind of person is someone who makes someone feel bad, dumb or stupid for, like, being excited about something.”

I bring this up here, in our The Underground at The Mob Museum review, because that’s how I feel about this spot so much. It’s quirky, it’s gimmicky, it’s cliché, and I loved every single bit of it. We had such a good time there earlier this month.

The Underground is a secret speakeasy hidden in The Mob Museum in Las Vegas. You search for a barrel to find a staircase that leads to a door with a sliding peephole where you need a password to enter.

We have a similar speakeasy in Wilmington, which is down a hallway and then you knock on a door with a sliding peephole (which doesn’t require a password).

These are very much IYKYK places, which most people about because they’re the worst kept secrets. And yet, they feel secret. Which is really fun. And why The Underground should be on your list of things to do in Las Vegas next time you’re in town. That and because the beer-braised beef sliders are very good.

The Mob Museum is located in Downtown Las Vegas, which is somewhere you should visit when you’re in town. Get off the Strip. Live a little. And, if you decide to, our list of 10 Must Do Things In Downtown Las Vegas will help you plan that portion of your trip.

​ Quick note about The Mob Museum (technically the National Museum Of Organized Crime And Law Enforcement). It’s a really great museum, located in a former Las Vegas post office, that has floors of exhibits where you can learn about the history of organized crime. So I hear. We didn’t go.

You don’t have to purchase a ticket for The Mob Museum in order to check out the speakeasy. If you have a general admission ticket to enter the museum, you can get to the speakeasy, which is in the basement of The Mob Museum, through a stairway located in the box office in the lobby of the museum. If you don’t have a ticket, you can still enter. You just need a password.

How to Get Into The Underground Speakeasy at The Mob Museum

If you’re looking at The Mob Museum from Stewart Avenue, you’ll want to head to the right side and go to the back of the building where you’ll see a large wooden barrel.

To the right of the barrel is a nondescript staircase. Walk down it.

Once you’re down the staircase, you’ll see a green door. Knock.

A doorman will greet you, open the sliding peephole, and ask you for the password (which you can find daily in The Mob Museum’s Instagram stories or on its website).

The door will open and the doorman will give you wristband that allows you access to The Underground. The wristband doesn’t allow you access to the actual museum or any of the museum’s exhibits.

Then, you’ll walk right into the speakeasy.

The Speakeasy

At its core, the speakeasy is an exhibit, just like other exhibits in the museum. The difference is that this exhibit contains interactive experiences: eating, drinking, and a distillery tour (for ticket holders).

The Underground is modeled as a prohibition era speakeasy, with plush leather couches and a fully stocked bar. But, since it is an exhibit, there are tons of artifacts and information cards around the speakeasy, plus videos that play non-stop (although you can’t actually hear them while you’re there). That’s a nice perk for anyone (like us) who came solely for the speakeasy and not for the museum. You do get a little big of mob history with your drink.

There are a bunch of tables and seating in The Underground, both within the speakeasy itself and at the bar.

There’s free live music on the weekends (8 pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday; 7 pm to 11 pm on Sunday).

The Cocktails

The hand-crafted cocktails reflect the cocktails made at the time. If you’ve been to a craft cocktail bar since the resurgence about a decade ago, you’re familiar with this prohibition-era style. 

Pete started with the Bathtub Fizz, a nod to  “bathtub gin”  (the name for alcohol made during prohibition because it was either made with water from the bathtub or made in the bathtub, depending on which folklore you like best). This cocktail was basically a Sloe Gin Fizz, made from gin, sloe gin, aperol, sugar, lemon, egg white, and bitters.

It’s served in a bathtub, which you can keep for an additional $20.

But, rather than spend money on a tub, Pete ordered a second cocktail. This time, he went with the Giggle Water. That’s seasonal fruit-infused vodka, lillet, bitters, and sparkling wine (a nod to the popular 1920’s drink the French 75 , according to the menu).

This one wasn’t served in a fancy class, but rather, with a wafer paper that, in a simple typeface, says, “Remember, you were never here.”

Little things like that, they’re just fun.

What I did really appreciate is there are three non-alcoholic mocktails on the menu: Raspberry Lavender Fizz (which I ordered and was amazing), The Test Pilot (which my mom loved), and Pineapple Smash (whcih no one ordered because my dad ordered a domestic beer).

I like when there are fancy mocktails on the menu. It makes me, who doesn’t drink, feel included. Which bars don’t actually do often enough.

We got to The Underground at lunchtime (it opens at noon), so of course we had to eat. And, if you’re going to be sampling some of the drinks in The Underground, it’s a good idea to get some food in your stomach.

We ordered the pretzel bites with beer cheese, which of course we had to try. And, quick side note: The Mob Museum actually brews 60 gallons of craft beer per month, including  The Big Al’s Ale , named for the famed mobster  Al Capone . We also had the aforementioned beer-braised beef sliders and the spinach and artichoke dip.

Everything was very good. And very easy to split (which is honestly how we were ordering because it was four of us sharing).

But, better than the taste is the story behind the items. Instead of explaining to you what spinach and artichoke dip is (because we all know that already), the menu actually describes the  Great Artichoke War  — which I never heard of until I saw the menu.

But apparently, New York City Mayor Fiorello La Guardia (who yes, the airport is named after) banned artichokes after this war because  Ciro “Artichoke King”  Terranova (yes, his real nickname) of the  Morello crime family  made a million dollars importing artichokes from California into New York, tripling the price, and selling them to Italians.

​You can’t make this stuff up if you tried.

So of course, we had to have the once banned vegetable along with our once banned alcohol.

The Distillery

The Mob Museum actually has an on-site distillery, which you can see through a window in The Underground. Moonshine is made in a 60-gallon still there.

One of the add ons to Mob Museum tickets is a 30-minute guided tour of the distillery. Tastings are available on the tour, so there are age restrictions (you do have to be 21 or older to partake in The Underground distillery tours). And, you have to have a ticket to the museum in order to add on the interactive experience.

But, why, is there a distillery in the basement, you ask? Because, during prohibition, alcohol wasn’t allowed to be made. So the mob smuggled spirits into the United States and made moonshine in hidden stills. And that’s why there’s one “hidden” in the secret speakeasy in The Mob Museum.

The Bathroom

In case you’re wondering, yes, there’s a bathroom in the hallway next to The Underground that’s open to patrons of the speakeasy.

Go. Even if you don’t have to go. Go. Because in that hallway, there are some other exhibits and artifacts, plus a fish tank with the words “Lizzie D” behind it.

The  Lizzie D  was a tugboat that was carrying illegal alcohol that sank in 1922. It wasn’t discovered until a dive 55 years later found the boat and bottles of bootlegged alcohol.

The Secret VIP Room

Oh? You though the secret speakeasy was the only secret in The Underground. Think again.

Along the wall furthest from the secret entrance is a large painting of a woman dressed in 1920’s style. Surprise. It’s not just a framed photo. That’s a secret door leading to the private  VIP room . That’s the type of room where mob bosses held their meetings. And only people who needed to know knew about the room.

And now you know about this one. So you know the most secret secret of the secret speakeasy.

The Underground at The Mob Museum is open daily. Hours are Monday to Wednesday: noon to 10 pm; Thursday to Sunday: noon to midnight

You don’t need tickets if you’re just staying in the speakeasy.

If you want to tour The Mob Museum or any of the interactive exhibits (The Crime Lab experience, the distillery tour and tasting, or the Firearm Training Simulator), you will need a ticket. Those interactive exhibits are an additional cost, just so you know.

There is limited parking available at the museum. It’s $8 for four hours. Public parking can be found at a few of the downtown Las Vegas casinos (Downtown Grand, Main Street Station, and the El Cortez), which is within walking distance of the museum.

If you want a free option, The Mob Museum is a stop on the Downtown Loop, the free shuttle bus in downtown Las Vegas .
