Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season-Premiere Recap: Grand-Theft Enterprise

“I would like the ship to go,” Spock says after assuming control of the  Enterprise  for an unscheduled and unauthorized mission. Then, after the briefest of pauses and the slightest lift of Ethan Peck’s eyebrow, he adds, “Now.” Encouraged by Uhura, Jenna Mitchell (Rong Fu), and Ortegas (Melissa Navia) to come up with a catchphrase to start their journey — one to match Pike’s “Hit it!” — he lands on the most Spockian possible choice, a literal (and, of course logical) declaration that it’s time to move but delivered with a hint of wryness that suggests he understands why it’s funny to others.

It’s one of many indications in “The Broken Circle” that  Star Trek: Strange New Worlds  hasn’t lost a beat in the transition from its successful first season to this second outing with the crew of the Pike-commanded  Enterprise . Whether it can sustain that remains to be seen, of course, and the level of difficulty is quite high. The first season of  Strange New Worlds  had to win viewers over with new versions of familiar characters (some, like Spock and Anson Mount’s Pike introduced in  Discovery ) while introducing new additions and matching the more cinematic production values of  Discovery  and  Picard . The show also had to return to the adventure-of-the-week format of classic  Star Trek  series past while keeping the plates spinning for several ongoing storylines. For the most part, season one made that look easy. But that doesn’t mean it  was  easy or will get any easier.

Some of those ongoing storylines, like the fate of M’Benga’s daughter or Uhura’s mentorship under Hemmer (RIP) and the decision to remain with Starfleet were resolved by season’s end. Others, like the could-be romance between Spock and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) and Number One’s (Rebecca Romijn) until-recently-hidden past as an Illyrian, remain very much in play. It’s the latter that’s front-and-center as “The Broken Circle” opens. With the  Enterprise  docked for some plan repairs, inspections, and downtime at Starbase One, Pike notices tension and a sense that “something is in the air” among Starfleet brass. That’s not his number-one concern, however. That would be, well, Number One, who’s ready to take a plea deal for her deception even though Pike is not. To that end, he decides to take a shuttle to deal with the matter himself, leaving Spock in charge of a short-staffed  Enterprise .

And, with that, Pike makes his exit from the episode, a surprising development but, as it turns out, one that opens up a lot of possibilities for others on the  Enterprise , Spock chief among them. But it’s not like Spock doesn’t already have a lot on his mind, even without being placed in command of the ship. A visit to Dr. M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) reveals signs of a human element called “stress,” a condition seemingly created by Spock letting himself go into an un-Vulcan berserker rage in order to save the  Enterprise  in the previous season. To receive that stress, M’Benga gives him a familiar-looking stringed instrument, which Spock immediately takes to and which immediately relaxes him. But when Chapel enters the room, the stress returns. When Spock leaves the room, Chapel announces she has plans for an even longer separation: a two-month “archeological medicine” fellowship — on Vulcan. Whatever is going on between them is not over.

Meanwhile, the bridge crew is dealing with some nosy inspectors seemingly determined to disrupt their ways of doing things. In the process, Uhura encounters something even more disruptive: a message from Cajitar 4 ,  a dilithium mining planet on the edge of the Klingon and Federation border tied to another plot thread left dangling at the end of the first season La’an Noonien-Singh’s (Christina Chong) mission to return the Orianna (Emma Ho), the girl they rescued from the Gorn, to her family.

That mission has hit some static and Singh needs the  Enterprise ’s help. When Admiral April (Adrian Holmes) comes to an unexpected, if logical, conclusion, he then shares with the core crew: “We must steal the  Enterprise .”

Then, in shades of  Star Trek III: The Search for Spock , they set about doing just that. It proves to be surprisingly easy, requiring only the faking of a coolant leak, a trick that fools everyone. Well, almost everyone. A straggler named Commander Pelia (Carol Kane, joining the cast in a recurring role) remains, and she immediately senses their deception. She also doesn’t mind. She instinctively trusts Vulcans to make sensible choices, and, what’s more, she knows Spock’s mom. More importantly, she wants a little bit of excitement in her life again.

Pelia, it’s soon revealed, is a Lanthanite. And here’s what we know about Lanthanites: not much. Or at least nothing beyond what’s revealed in this episode, that they have distinct accents, live for centuries, and apparently lived on Earth undetected until the 22nd century, perhaps even before the planet made first contact with the wider universe. “It’s a long story,” she says. Undoubtedly we’ll get more of it, but not yet.

Speaking of throwbacks to  Star Trek III , on Cajitar 4 ,  we meet some familiar-looking Klingons, which is to say Klingons that don’t resemble those seen on  Discovery  but those introduced in the  Star Trek  film series .  In their company is Singh, who proves she cannot only hold her own in a Bloodwine drinking contest, she can negotiate with the Klingons, too. Reunited with the rogue members of the  Enterprise  crew, she explains the crisis at hand. The easing of hostilities has decreased the demand for the dilithium mined on Cajitar 4. That’s led a group of Klingons and ex-Federation types to unite in a common cause, which only  sounds  like a good idea. They’re a syndicate of pirates who want to restart the war so they can get rich.

That’s, of course, unacceptable, even if our heroes don’t yet know the details of the plan. They find them out before long, however. As Singh negotiates with some Klingons looking for black market Federation weapons, M’Benga and Chapel find themselves conscripted by the pirates, who would like to avail themselves of their prisoners’ expertise. The medical duo is the first to figure out the ingenious, if evil, plan. The pirates have built their own Federation starship in a cave and plan to use it in a false flag attack that will provoke the Klingons into resuming warfare.

Without wasting much time, they inject themselves with “juice” (to use Chapel’s word) that sends them into a berserker rage of their own, a method apparently left over from the Klingon war. It proves pretty effective here, allowing them to take out a bunch of pirates and learn more details of the plan. It’s powerful stuff, but it doesn’t prevent them from being trapped aboard the ship as it takes off.

If the pirates are to be stopped it’ll be up to the rest of  Enterprise ’s skeleton crew. Hiding out in the rings around Cajitar 4, they intercept a signal from M’Benga and Chapel and figure out what’s going on. After taking out the false Federation ship in full view of the Klingons, they find themselves facing two problems: (1) They need to rescue M’Benga and Chapel, who’ve jumped ship before the attack, and (2) they need to calm the Klingons without starting a war themselves.

They accomplish both, but not without some drama. A visibly upset Spock — with tears in his eyes, no less — revives Chapel, who attempts to deflate the tension of the moment by saying, “Why you gotta be so rough?” (though this ends up sounding pretty flirtatious, even under those circumstances). It’s on Spock, too, to explain what’s just happened and convey that they saved the Klingons from attack while also allowing the Klingons to save face by telling their own version of the story. The solution, as always, involves driving a lot of Bloodwine. “You’re no typical Vulcan,” the Klingon captain tells him. “Indeed,” Spock replies, “it would seem I’m not.”

One drinking session later, all is well again. What’s more, they’ve picked up a new engineer in the form of Pelia, who would vastly prefer to travel with them to the stars because she’s incredibly bored teaching instead of doing. That’s one adventure down, but a coda in which a hungover Spock talks to April reveals a hint of what’s to come after letting Spock off the hook with a warning. As the  Enterprise  heads back to base, and a still-emotional Spock picks up his lute, we learn what the “something in the air” Pike sensed was: there are Gorn approaching Federation space.

• Is this the origin story of how Spock came to play the lute? Or is M’Benga simply reuniting him with an instrument he already knew?

• Kane’s Lanthanite isn’t  that  different from the one she used as Simka , the woman who eventually married Andy Kaufman’s Latka Gravas on  Taxi . Anyone prone to creating wild fan theories might make a connection and suggest Simka was Pelia.

• The closing dedication to Nichelle Nichols is really lovely.

'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Season 2 Episode 1 Recap: Breaking the Rules Is Only Logical

Spock takes the Enterprise on a joy ride and a friendly face joins the crew in the first episode of the season.

After a year-long hiatus, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is finally back for Season 2 and in "The Broken Circle," we join the crew of the Enterprise on an unsanctioned mission into Klingon space. The premiere episode tees up the resolution to Season 1's cliffhanger , as well as rising tensions across the galaxy that will likely come back later in the season, and gives us our first introduction to Carol Kane 's Pelia as she joins the crew in a rather unconventional manner.

Penned by showrunners Henry Alonso Meyers and Akiva Goldsman , and directed by Chris Fisher , the Season 2 premiere of Strange New Worlds catches up with Captain Pike ( Anson Mount ) but swiftly puts Spock ( Ethan Peck ) in the spotlight — and in the Captain's chair — for an adventure that kicks off the season with a hearty balance of suspense and action alongside heaps of heart and humor.

It's been no more than a few weeks after the cliffhanger that saw Una Chin-Riley ( Rebecca Romijn ) arrested for concealing her Illyrian heritage and breaking Starfleet's rules against genetic modifications. While the Enterprise is in spacedock for a routine inspection, Captain Pike speaks to Una via 23rd-century FaceTme, and while she seems resigned to her fate Chris isn't willing to let her go. At face value, Una is guilty, and she's not willing to drag his name through the mud to clear her own. The depth of their friendship drives him to take personal leave to ensure that she has a fighting chance to win her case, leaving the Enterprise in Spock's capable hands.

I Would Like the Ship to Go, Now

With Pike on shore leave and Spock still struggling to control his emotions following Hemmer's death at the end of Season 1, the new acting captain takes a trip down to Sickbay to see if anything can be done to help him manage the stress of being in charge. Spock doesn't want his emotions to impact his judgment, and while Doctor M'Benga's ( Babs Olusanmokun ) primary word of advice is to learn to live with his human side, he also offers the young Vulcan an alternative form of stress relief, gifting him with the lute he's often seen playing in The Original Series . When Nurse Chapel ( Jess Bush ) walks in, Spock swiftly makes an excuse and leaves the room. M'Benga naturally calls out the awkward tension between his two friends before Christine reveals that she's thinking about applying for an archeological medicine fellowship that would see her take two months off to study on Vulcan.

Up on the bridge, the crew hovers while the inspectors nitpick all the ways they've customized the Enterprise when Uhura ( Celia Rose Gooding ) receives a distress signal from La'an who appears to be calling out from a world on the edge of Klingon space. With the Federation barely a few years removed from the end of the Klingon war, Admiral April ( Adrian Holmes ) cannot allow Spock to investigate the message because they could shatter the fragile state of peace with the race of alien warriors. Still learning to balance logic and instinct, Spock comes to the only natural conclusion: They must steal the Enterprise and go after La'an.

As the crew stages their ruse, Chief Inspector Pelia (Kane) lingers on the bridge, seeing right through them because she's spent the last week carefully inspecting the ship, and she knows there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. She interrogates Spock with an almost unhinged fervor, revealing a wealth of knowledge and personal connection to his mother Amanda Grayson ( Mia Kirshner ). When the crew believes they've been caught red-handed, Pelia shocks everyone by telling them the "correct" way to steal a starship. She jokes that it's been 100 years since she had a good adventure and her chaotic nature sends a thrill through the crew and the audience. Uhura clocks her accent as Lanthanite, a seemingly new species of long-living humanoid aliens, and Spock welcomes her aboard as their new Chief Engineer.

Enterprise, Destroy This Ship

On the edge of Klingon space, La'an drinks a boisterous warrior under the table, downing a full goblet of Klingon Blood WIne with ease. She's here in an unofficial capacity but still using every ounce of her Starfleet security skills to uncover a mystery that could spell the end of the Federation's alliance with the Klingons. The crew arrives in stunning undercover wear, and they rendezvous outside the local village, with La'an revealing that she suspects a sect of Klingons are attempting to re-start the war. Chapel and M'Benga immediately have their guard up because, while the rest of the crew was away, they served together in the war, and they're not at all interested in seeing that wound re-opened. They split off from the group to offer medical aid to some familiar faces, but it goes sideways when a Klingon woman arrives and insists that they offer their services elsewhere.

La'an trades weapons for information, as Spock and Uhura watch from the shadows. It looks like they've arrived just in time as whatever the Klingons have planned is on deck for tomorrow. Spock is hesitant to do anything just yet, but that's subject to change as he gets word that the ship actually has no idea where Chapel and M'Benga are, having lost track of their signal when they were taken hostage. Underground, the doctor duo finds that the Klingons have either stolen or rebuilt a Federation vessel, and they immediately realize what they're planning to do with it. M'Benga reveals a green substance that they both take via hypospray that gives them the strength to take on Klingons in hand-to-hand combat, and they fight their way out. Together they call upon everything they learned during the war and even let some of their own demons out in the process. M'Benga is able to send a message to the Enterprise, but when the ship takes off suddenly they're swiftly cornered into an airlock with no discernable way out.

In orbit, we learn that Ortegas ( Melissa Navia ) also served during the Klingon war as she expertly keeps the ship hidden to avoid an unnecessary conflict when all of a sudden the ship carrying Chapel and M'Benga takes off and sets a course straight for the Klingon Battle Cruiser. Spock displays excellent leadership skills as he works through his thought process out loud and orders Ortegas to follow the false ship. Despite being fired upon, Spock hesitates to follow through with the message to destroy the other ship suspecting that Chapel and M'Benga are on board. Spock does exactly what all of our other favorite starship captains have done at some point, stalling as long as possible in order to save as many people as possible — including those he has personal feelings for. It takes tremendous effort from him, but he makes the decision to destroy the ship before it can fire upon the Klingons.

In a last-ditch effort to make it out alive, M'Benga and Chapel plan to airlock themselves with an EV transponder (but no protection from the atmosphere of space). Somehow it works, and they're beamed aboard — while M'Benga is still breathing, Chapel has lost consciousness, but Spock refuses to let her go beginning chest compressions and demanding that she not die. Back on the bridge, Spock holds his own against a Klingon commander who suspects that he's lying and once again it's his uniqueness that proves he's so much more than a "typical" Vulcan. The alliance is safe for another day and in breaking the rules, Spock may have even strengthened the relationship between their two worlds.

Another fantastic scene with Pelia and Spock confirms that she is Lanthanite, as Spock reveals that her species lived on Earth for centuries, undetected until the 2100s. Kane perfectly balances humor and emotion as she tells him that his mother was one of the first people she ever "came out to," indicating a deep friendship. She makes this scene heartwrenching and hilarious in equal measure as she tells Spock that the loss of those we love is "a pain shared by all those who live with even a half-open heart," before revealing that the worst part of living for hundreds of years is, in fact, boredom, and she'd love to join the Enterprise in a more permanent capacity.

"The Broken Circle" serves as an excellent character study for Spock as it wraps with him explaining how logical his actions truly were and how, despite breaking about a dozen regulations, it was the right thing to do. April lets him off easy before revealing to the audience that the Federation is on the verge of war with an even more terrifying enemy: The Gorn . As the episode fades to black, the series offers a beautiful dedication to the legendary Nichelle Nichols who passed away last year. Nichols changed the face of television and opened countless doors for Black women in both entertainment and STEM. The dedication reads, "For Nichelle, who was first through the door and showed us the stars. Hailing frequencies forever open."

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5 contains two major reveals about the Mirror Universe and the Breen. We break down what the ending means.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5, "Mirrors," ends with Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery's crew grappling with jaw-dropping reveals about the Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise, L'ak's (Elias Toufexis) species, and the next clue in the hunt for the Progenitors' treasure. Written by Johanna Lee and Carlos Cisco and directed by Jen McGowan, the thrilling "Mirrors" sends Burnham and Cleveland Booker (David Ajala) into interdimensional space after Moll and L'ak and the third Progenitors' clue , but they found a lot more than they bargained for.

In Star Trek: Discovery s eason 5, episode 5, Captain Burnham, Cleveland Booker, Moll, and L'ak are all trapped aboard the derelict ISS Enterprise after Burnham's shuttle and L'ak's ship are destroyed by interdimensional space, a dangerous region between Star Trek 's Prime and Mirror Universes . Michael ingeniously uses the Enterprise's tractor beam to send a distress signal to the USS Discovery, where Commander Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie) and the bridge crew find a way to keep the aperture of the interdimensional space wormhole open to fly the ISS Enterprise through. However, L'ak and Moll make their escape, leaving Burnham, Book, and the Starfleet heroes to grapple with the third clue to the Progenitors' treasure, and what they learned and found in the wormhole.

The ISS Enterprise's first and only previous appearance was in Star Trek: The Original Series season 2's "Mirror, Mirror", which introduced the Mirror Universe.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Returning Cast & New Character Guide

Captain kirk's mirror universe iss enterprise now belongs to 32nd century starfleet, it's been a long road for the iss enterprise.

The Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise becomes the property of the 32nd century's Starfleet and United Federation of Planets at the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5, "Mirrors." Captain Burnham assigned Lt. Commanders Kayla Detmer (Emily Coutts) and Joann Owosekun (Oyin Oladejo) - who don't actually appear in the episode - to fly the ISS Enterprise back to Federation HQ to be put into "storage". However, the acquisition of a major historical find like a 23rd-century Constitution Class starship filled with Terran Empire technology from the Mirror Universe is bound to be of interest to Dr. Kovich (David Cronenberg).

After the Temporal Wars, crossing over between the Mirror Universe and Star Trek 's Prime universe is now impossible, but the ISS Enteprise was trapped in interdimensional space for centuries, which crossing over could still happen.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5's ISS Enterprise scenes were filmed on the USS Enterprise sets of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds . Discovery season 5's production took place at the end of 2022, after Strange New Worlds season 2 had wrapped in June and long before Strange New Worlds season 3 filming started in December 2023. The USS Enterprise's bridge, medical bay, transporter room, and hallways were redressed to turn the starship into its Mirror Universe counterpart.

Star Trek: Discovery's Mirror Universe Revelations

We found out what happened to mirror spock and mirror saru.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5's ISS Enterprise appearance answered some big questions about the events of the Mirror Universe after Star Trek: The Original Series ' "Mirror, Mirror." Cleveland Booker learned from the plaque where the Enterprise's missing crew left their story behind that the Terran High Chancellor was assassinated after making reforms. This refers to the Mirror Universe's Spock (Leonard Nimoy), who was urged by the Prime Universe's Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) to make reforms to prevent the inevitable collapse of the Terran Empire, which happened anyway.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 's Mirror Universe episodes revealed that the Terran Empire, weakened by Spock's reforms, was conquered by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance.

Refugees led by a Kelpien slave-turned-rebel leader - Saru (Doug Jones) - used the ISS Enterprise to flee the Mirror Universe for the Prime Universe in the 23rd century, but the starship was trapped in interdimensional space. The Enterprise's crew eventually used the ship's shuttles and escape pods to abandon the starship in an effort to make it to the Prime Universe. Some did make it through, including the ISS Enterprise's junior science officer, Dr. Cho , who later joined Starfleet and became a branch Admiral in the 24th century.

Jinaal Bix redacted the names of the scientists who found the Progenitors' technology, including Dr. Cho.

Moll & L'ak Escaped Discovery With A Breen Bounty On Their Heads

L'ak is the nephew of the breen primarch.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5 revealed the backstory of Moll and L'ak, including the revelation that L'ak is Breen . Years before Star Trek: Discovery season 5, Moll was a courier who sold latinum to the Breen Imperium, where she met L'ak, the nephew of the Breen's Primarch Ruhn (Tony Nappo), who had fallen out of favor and was working in the shuttle bay. Moll and L'ak fell in love , and L'ak committed a crime against the Breen by consorting with "a lesser being" and removing his helmet to show Moll his true face. Confronted by his uncle, L'ak shot the Primarch and fled with Moll.

Moll and L'ak used one of the ISS Enterprise's remaining warp pods to flee capture.

Moll and L'ak both have a Breen blood bounty on their heads, and they hope that finding the Progenitors' treasure and selling it to the Breen will buy their freedom. Neither Moll and L'ak want the Federation's help offered by Captain Burnham, and they would "rather die" than be separated in a Federation prison. L'ak was injured in a brawl with Burnham, but instead of seeking medical attention from the USS Discovery, Moll and L'ak used one of the ISS Enterprise's remaining warp pods to flee capture. However, this time, Moll and L'ak left behind a warp trail Discovery can follow.

Cleveland Booker Tries To Connect With Moll

Booker's mentor was moll's absentee father.

Cleveland Booker has personal reasons to connect with and save Moll. Moll's real name is Malinne Booker, and she is the daughter of Book's late mentor, Cleveland Booker IV . Moll's father abandoned her and her mother to become a courier and raise the funds needed to move his family to a new home in the Gamma Quadrant. However, Booker IV's dangerous life as a courier and dealings with criminal organizations like the Emerald Chain made him keep his distance from Malinne, who blamed him for leaving her behind.

Moll doesn't want Cleveland Booker in her life.

Moll became a courier like her father to do what he didn't and earn enough latinum to move to the Gamma Quadrant, but Moll's entire world shifted when she fell in love with L'ak and the Breen placed a blood bounty on their head s. Moll doesn't want Cleveland Booker in her life , but she relents when she has the chance to kill the man who took her father's name. Whether Moll will ever come to see Book as the "only family" she has left, the way Book sees her, remains to be seen.

Commander Rayner Got The Best Out Of USS Discovery's Crew

Captain Burnham left Commander Rayner at the conn of the USS Discovery while she and Book went on their away mission, despite Rayner's reservations about leading Burnham's crew. However, Rayner was impressed that Burnhum learned Kellerun literature to connect with her new First Officer. This knowledge was the key to Rayner saving Burnham from interdimensional space. Burnham used the ISS Enterprise's tractor beam to send a signal the Kellerun commander would understand.

Rayner gained a new appreciation for Discovery's crew and how to work with them as his own crew.

Commander Rayner placed his trust in the USS Discovery's crew to "science" a way to open the wormhole's aperture and pull the ISS Enterprise into the Prime Universe. Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp). Lt. Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Ensign Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio), Lt. Commander Gen Rhys (Patrick Kwok-Choon), Lt. Christopher (Orville Cummings), Lt. Linus (David Benjamin Tomlinson), Lt. Naya (Victoria Sawal), Lt. Commander Asha (Christina Dixon), and Lt. Gallo (Natalie Liconti) all rose to the occasion and found a way to save Burnham and Book. In turn, Rayner gained a new appreciation for Discovery's crew and how to work with them as his own crew.

Dr. Culber Reaches Out To Tilly

Culber has questions science can't answer.

The USS Discovery's counselor, Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), needs a counselor of his own. Culber continues to deal with the unimaginable experience of Trill scientist Jinaal Bix occupying his mind and body in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 3, "Jinaal." Being taken over by a Trill has left Culber with existential questions, and he hopes finding the Progenitors' technology will provide him with the answers he seeks.

Hugh finds a sympathetic ear in Lt. Sylvia Tilly.

Unfortunately for Hugh, he doesn't believe he can share his feelings with his husband, Commander Paul Stamets because Paul is a man of science, and Culber's questions are ineffable. Hugh finds a sympathetic ear in Lt. Sylvia Tilly, but the answers Dr. Culber seeks are tied to what the USS Discovery finds when they locate the Progenitors' treasure - or so Hugh hopes. Culber, who has already died and been resurrected, may find himself in a new scenario that has pivotal life-or-death decisions in Star Trek: Discovery season 5.

Where Star Trek: Discovery's Next Progenitors' Treasure Clue Leads

The next clue involves water.

Captain Burnham acquired the third clue from Moll and L'ak, which is a vial of water contained within a piece of the Progenitors' treasure map. Burnham is waiting for Commander Stamets to conduct a chemical analysis of the water, which will reveal where the USS Discovery must go next for the 4th clue . However, Michael told Book that Dr. Cho, the former Terran scientist who became a Starfleet Admiral, went back to the ISS Enterprise in interdimensional space and hid her clue to the Progenitors' technology there.

Burnham and Book mused over the lessons attached to each clue. On Trill, finding Jinaal's clue was dependent on Burnham and Booker proving they value lifeforms other than their own. On Lyrek for the first clue, the lesson was the importance of cultural context. Michael surmised that the lesson Dr. Cho left behind with her clue on the ISS Enterprise was to have the hope to shape your own future in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 as the search for the Progenitors' treasure and the answers to life, itself, continues.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed For Season 4 At Paramount+

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for Season 4 at Paramount+, despite currently being in production on its third season.

On the other hand, it has been revealed that the animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks , will end with Season 5 on the streaming platform. The final season will premiere this fall.

Strange New Worlds centers around Capt. Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) is the USS Enterprise commander at this point in the Star Trek universe. He is joined by younger versions of several legacy characters, including Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), and Kirk (Paul Wesley).

It debuted in 2022 and had an epic second season that included a musical episode and a crossover episode with Lower Decks , helping it climb aboard Nielsen’s chart of the 10 most-watched streaming original series over multiple weeks.

“On behalf of the cast and crew of ‘Strange New Worlds,’ we are thrilled and grateful to continue our voyages together,” said executive producers and showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, along with executive producer Alex Kurtzman in a statement according to Variety . “We can’t wait for you to join us and the crew of the Enterprise on another season of exploration and adventure.”

Lower Decks is set in the years following the feature film Star Trek: Nemesis and centers around the junior officers of the USS Cerritos: Beckett Mariner ( Tawny Newsome ), Brad Boimler ( Jack Quaid ), D’Vana Tendi ( Noël Wells ) and Sam Rutherford ( Eugene Cordero ).

The series also featured voice cameos from several Star Trek alumni including George Takei , Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, John de Lancie, Will Wheaton, Armin Shimerman, Nana Visitor, and Robert Duncan McNeill.

Although some aspects of the storyline make it appropriate to conclude the show, Kurtzman and executive producer and showrunner Mike McMahan are leaving the hull open for future iterations.

“We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford, and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures,” they said in a message to fans. “While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”

Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is slated to premiere in 2025.
