When do you use take sb to and take sb for/on it is a pleasure to take you to a sightseeing tour of my city--> wrong. it is a pleasure to take you for/on a sightseeing tour of my city--> right. Why?
Senior Member
Hi They are both correct, but have different meanings.
gringuitoloco
I'm going to take you for a ride---means you will drive someone around, like in a car. I'm going to take you to a ride--means you will bring someone to some type of amusement ride, like a ferris wheel. In your example, using "to" means bringing to a LOCATION that does sightseeing tours. Using "for" means bringing on an actual sightseeing tour. Also, It is a pleasure sounds weird...It seems as though you should say "It was a pleasure."
you re right, i wanted to say "it was a pleasure". So, to sum up, take sb to is for a place, whereas take sb for is to do an activity. am I right?
Mihael00 said: you re right, i wanted to say "it was a pleasure". So, to sum up, take sb to is for a place, whereas take sb for is to do an activity. am I right? Click to expand...
It depends on the intrinsic meaning of the preposition: to + destination for = objective on = physical position (means of transport, on board a; tour bus, plane, train etc.) "It is a pleasure" is fine if you wish to pay a compliment while on the tour
Example sentences take a tour
He doesn't flinch but gets up to take a tour of the school.
Take a tour of the ancient network of caves that lie beneath the inn and learn of the ghosts that roam them.
But we chose to take a tour because the holiday rep excursions offer great value for money.
They would take a tour around the house, oohing and ahhing at how everything so pleasingly had its pair.
Maybe, then, you will decide not to take the tour .

Harris, Walz to take Pennsylvania bus tour
Vice President Harris and her running mate , Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), are set to take a bus tour through central Pennsylvania next week, her campaign announced Saturday.
The visit Wednesday to the critical swing state of Pennsylvania highlights the Harris campaign’s focus on winning the Keystone State. The bus tour, which will involve multiple stops and talking to voters, will be the first time the two Democrats campaign together in central Pennsylvania.
The Keystone State is considered one of, if not the most, important battleground states in the 2024 presidential election, carrying with it the prize of 19 Electoral College votes.
Former President Trump and Harris are largely neck-and-neck in the state, with Harris carrying a 1.3 percentage point lead over Trump, 49.2 percent to 47.9 percent, according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ aggregation of polls .
Harris and Walz embarked on a bus tour last month through southeast Georgia, which is another crucial state to win this cycle. On that trip , which was a way for them to reach more rural parts of the Peach State, they stopped at a high school and spoke to students and then ended in Savannah, Ga., for a rally.
The Harris campaign also launched a bus tour focused on reproductive rights, which involved surrogates like second gentleman Doug Emhoff and Minnesota first lady Gwen Walz. It started in Palm Beach, Fla., which is Trump’s hometown.
