Cruise was reportedly touted to play Neo in The Matrix film franchise before it went to Keanu Reeves , and similarly with the role of Iron Man before Robert Downey Jr was cast as the lead.

Executives at Disney wanted to likeness of Aladdin to resemble Tom Cruise as they said it'd make the character more likeable.

After his turn in Risky Business (and the iconic improvised dance scene) Cruise was credited with saving the sunglasses brand Ray-Ban from going under due to the renewed popularity the film gave the frames.

He participates in most of - if not all of - his stunts in movies, and has a gruelling regime to keep him prepared. When asked about how he keeps fit Cruise replied with: "Sea-kayaking, caving… fencing, treadmill, weights… rock-climbing, hiking… I jog… I do so many different activities."

LONDON – Tom Cruise really does have the royal seal of approval. 

Cruise is 60 years old. That is correct. 

The superstar of Hollywood is 60 yet looks 35 up close. I should know. I just sat down with Tom while at Windsor Castle, where he hosted the brilliant royal event, "A Gallop Through History," at the queen’s request.

The last few years have also seen Tom Cruise completely reinvent his public persona from eccentric, and at times embattled, to the consummate Hollywood leading man with ageless good looks and box office receipts to match.

As Tom strode onto the large platform at Windsor Castle facing the lady who has reigned over the commonwealth for the last 70 years he was, as he admitted to a source, "nervous."

" I really admire Queen Elizabeth," Tom said. "We can all learn lessons from her, and she is such a vibrant lady with a zest for life that really is addictive. But, you know, despite all the films and success, this was a ‘moment,’ as they say, and thankfully all went well. But when you look at who she has met across the decades you do think, ‘Why did they ask me?’"

Tom proved a great and affable emcee, plus added that international glamour to the event, which really helped ratings bust through the roof. However, Tom has had previous engagements with royals, and this could be the reason why he was invited by the queen to host.

In 2017, Tom made a huge impression on the late Duke of Edinburgh. Both men were supporters of the Outward Bound trust, an educational charity that seeks to improve the lives of children and young people through outdoor activities and learning. They attended a dinner hosted at Buckingham Palace to honor the 75th anniversary of the U.K.-based organization. 

And they got on like old chums, with Philip laughing out loud many times at the event, cementing his place in the royal circle. The queen noted that and kept it by for this massive royal year.

Tom also became chums with the late Princess Diana when Tom was married to Nicole Kidman. The pair had met the princess at a screening of "Far and Away" in 1992, and Tom told me he was "devastated" by her passing. 

"She was a magical person and really engulfed you with her personality," he said. 

Diana also loved the movie original, "Top Gun," and would often watch it on video at Kensington Palace with both Princes William and Harry.

Tom's 60th birthday on July 3 marked a major milestone in an extraordinary life, one at the very top of the movie business. But the biggest question on everyone’s lips here recently in the U.K. was: Did the Duchess of Cambridge and Tom Cruise break royal protocol?

This was because the ever gallant Tom offered assistance on the stairs for the Duchess Catherine as she ascended in towering glam heels. 

As Tom pointed out, "It's natural right? And it's what my mom taught me to do — be a gentleman and offer assistance. It was a moment thing. And, honestly, I did not see anything wrong in it, yet we did giggle about it afterwards simply because, well I should have remembered."

When I spoke with Tom recently, he wouldn’t weigh in on whether William and Catherine will attend his U.K.-based birthday party, but he hopes they do "if they could spare the time." 

Tom knows that the royal premiere of his new movie, which shot to No. 1 around the world, is all thanks to them. 

" People love the British royals as do I , and I am aware they brought so much focus onto the event of which I am so grateful and well happy beyond words," Tom revealed to a source.

Tom has asked all guests for no presents as "I truly have enough. I mean I don’t need anything. So donations to my charities is what would make me most happy, and I check in with them all the time." 

Tom admitted 60 sounds like, "Wow, you know." But as Tom hits that milestone this weekend, it's clearly the start of something big even after all these years still the No. 1 box office star in the world and now with the royal seal of approval too.

It was a risky business. 

Tom Cruise, 61, reportedly stole the show with agile dance moves at Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday bash, which happened in London on Saturday night. 

Cruise has reportedly been friends with Beckham and her husband, Inter Miami CF President David Beckham, 48, for two decades, and the “Mission: Impossible” star did a breakdance routine that wowed the A-list crowd. 

After a formal dinner at the private members club Oswald’s, over 100 guests hit the dance floor, where Cruise stunned guests.

There were no cameras allowed, but a source told the Daily Mail about the “Risky Business” star’s antics, “People were absolutely dumbfounded.” 

Other celeb guests included Gordon Ramsay, Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Guy Ritchie and all of the Beckham’s fellow former Spice Girls: Melanie “Mel B” Brown, Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell.

Cruise wasn’t the only dance star of the night — since all of the former Spice Girls reunited and did an impromptu performance of their 1997 single “Stop.” 

They busted out their signature dance moves from the iconic music video , as seen in footage shared by David Beckham via Instagram on Saturday.

“I mean come on x,” the retired soccer star captioned his post, tagging all five of the ladies and adding a series of heart emojis.

Fans quickly took to the comments section to weigh in on the epic moment, writing things like, “Is this the teaser for the reunion? Cause I’m here for it,” “Tour WHEN,” “We are all UNWELL” and “Thank you @davidbeckham for doing the lord’s work!”

Victoria re-shared the clip to her own page, calling her birthday soiree the “best night” ever. “Happy Birthday to me!” the fashion designer added. “I love you all so much! #SpiceUpYourLife.”

Victoria dressed to impress in a mint-green sleeveless gown with sparkling silver and gold bracelets on each wrist.

She accessorized with crutches , for her broken foot — a workout injury from February. But she was all smiles celebrating with famous pals, David and their four kids, Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 12.

Notably, Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, 29, didn’t attend her mother-in-law’s party. 

She’s rumored to have a rocky relationship with Victoria, as they were allegedly feuding ahead of Peltz’s marriage to Brooklyn in April 2022.

“They can’t stand each other and don’t talk,” an insider close to the family previously told Page Six. “The build-up to the wedding was horrendous.”

Brooklyn has denied the rumors about an unhappy rapport between his wife and mom, telling Variety, “I’ve learned they’re always going to try to write stuff like that. They’re always going to try and put people down. But everyone gets along, which is good.” 

Victoria’s daughter-in-law took to her Instagram Story Saturday to share that she skipped out on the bash to spend time with her grandmother. 

“Happy Birthday to my beautiful MIL @victoriabeckham. I’m so sad I’m not there to celebrate you and hug you! Sending all my love from me and Naunni,” she said. 

Unfortunately, unlike the Spice Girls, party attendees have not posted footage of Cruise dancing, perhaps deciding that it’s too much of a risky business.

Tom Cruise Gets Sweet 60th Birthday Message from 'Top Gun' Costar Val Kilmer: 'Happy Birthday Mav'

Tom Cruise rang in his 60th birthday with a special birthday wish from his best wingman.

Val Kilmer — who starred as Top "Iceman" Kazansky to Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in 1986's Top Gun and reprised his role in the recently released Top Gun: Maverick — posted a sweet message to Cruise on Sunday as the actor celebrated his latest age milestone.

"Happy Birthday Mav @TomCruise from Ice!" tweeted Kilmer, 62, referencing their iconic characters' call signs.

Among Cruise's other Maverick costars to wish him many happy returns on social media was Glen Powell , who shared a snapshot of the daredevil actor hanging off the side of a plane .

"This is 60," wrote Powell, 33. "TC, there is just no one like you. Keep hangin' in there. Happy Birthday! ⁦ @TomCruise ."

True to his love of action, Cruise himself spent part of his birthday weekend in attendance at the British F1 Grand Prix on Sunday.

The actor was seen flashing a big smile while greeting fans and rubbing shoulders with other VIP attendees.

Other familiar faces in attendance at the event included Gordon Ramsay , Geri Halliwell and Lewis Hamilton .

Meanwhile, Top Gun: Maverick passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office over the weekend of June 25, according to Variety . It became the first of Cruise's films to reach the rare milestone, with his next-highest global earner being 2018's Mission: Impossible – Fallout , which made $791.1 million.

Cruise was thrilled to have Kilmer return for the sequel. "I've always admired his work, his talent," Cruise told PEOPLE in May, adding, "We get together ... we just start laughing. It was special to have him back. It meant a lot to me."

For Kilmer, becoming Iceman once again was "like being reunited with a long-lost friend." Even after more than 30 years, he told PEOPLE, "the characters never really go away. They live on in deep freeze. If you'll pardon the pun."

Top Gun: Maverick is now playing in theaters.

Tom Cruise ’s frequent collaborator and Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie wished the star a happy 60th birthday on Sunday by sharing a new behind-the-scenes photo that appears to be taken from the eighth M:I movie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part Two (check it out below).

While McQuarrie did not add any context about the image, it sees Cruise hanging off the wing of a mid-roll vintage red biplane — similar to the one we saw in a pre-recorded message Cruise sent from the South Africa set of the film during CinemaCon in April.

Cruise, who is known for constantly pushing the limits in his self-performed stunts, is currently flying high with Top Gun: Maverick which has grossed over $1.1B globally. This past weekend, its sixth, the movie saw another incredible hold , down just 14% domestically and 16% at the international box office.

Maverick co-star Glen Powell also tweeted McQ’s photo, adding “TC, there is just no one like you. Keep hangin’ in there. Happy Birthday!”

Cruise spent his birthday on Sunday at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix, where he was supporting pal and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. “He’s a great friend of mine. I hope he has a great day,” Cruise told Sky Sports on the starting grid. (Hamilton ended up placing third while Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz claimed the first win of his career.)

The fashion icon had a star-studded bash to celebrate her 50th birthday! Her old girl group performed some moves together, and other celebs attended the massive celebration.

Victoria Beckham   kicked off her 50th birthday with a bang! The former Spice Girl threw a huge, star-studded bash to celebrate her special day on Saturday, April 20. Victoria welcomed tons of famous friends to celebrate with her and her family, including her husband  David Beckham ,  and kids  Brooklyn ,  Cruz ,  Romeo , and  Harper , to help her ring in her 50th year!

One of the most exciting moments from the festivities included that Victoria reunited with her former girl group, the Spice Girls ! Victoria (Posh Spice) joined her old bandmates  Mel B  (Scary Spice),  Melanie C  (Sporty Spice),  Emma Bunton  (Baby Spice), and  Geri Halliwell  (Ginger Spice) to perform their dance moves to the song “Stop.” David shared a short video of the girls doing the synchronized dance on Instagram . “I mean come on,” he wrote in the caption, while tagging all of the ladies.

Victoria shared a photo of the reunited girl group on Instagram . “The best gift to be reunited!! Thank you to all my friends and family for celebrating with me. Kisses!” she wrote in the caption.

The Spice Girls weren’t the only ones dancing for Victoria’s special day!   Tom Cruise   took some time away from filming the upcoming  Mission Impossible  film to attend the party. He showed off his dance moves to really steal the show, one guest told   Daily Mail . “People were absolutely dumbfounded,” the insider said.

Tom and the Spice Girls weren’t the only A-listers on the guest list for the party.   Salma Hayek , Eva Longoria , and Gordon Ramsay were all also seen heading into the birthday bash. Unfortunately, cameras were banned, so other than the Spice Girls video, it doesn’t seem like we’ll get more glimpses of what went down in the party anytime soon. It did seem like an excellent bash though, as Victoria was seen getting a piggyback ride from her husband out of the party afterwards.

When Victoria’s birthday hit, David penned a beautiful message for his wife to kick off the festivities, paying tribute to her hard work over the years. “Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife… As you head into this birthday you should look back and be proud of what you have accomplished, achieved & what you have built, Posh spice, business woman & of course marrying an England captain,” he wrote.

Tom Cruise breakdancing, a Spice Girls reunion and tons of A-list celebrities gathering in one location have social media and the general public in awe over Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday party.

Beckham, who celebrated half a century over the weekend, posted about the luxurious soiree Sunday on Instagram.

But some of the most buzzworthy moments went intentionally unrecorded.

"I don’t think I’ve ever felt as loved as I did last night," Beckham's post said. "Thank you all for coming from near and so far!! X"

In the post, Beckham shared pictures of her with actor Eva Longoria, celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay, her husband, soccer star David Beckham and some of the couple's children.

In another Instagram post, Beckham shared a picture of her and the four other members of the English pop group, the Spice Girls.

"The best gift to be reunited!! Thank you to all my friends and family for celebrating with me. Kisses! xxx," Beckham's post about the Spice Girls said.

Guests 'absolutely dumbfounded' by Tom Cruise's dancing, reports say

Not included in either post were other famous attendees who came to celebrate with the Beckhams at Oswald’s, a private member’s club owned by Robin Birley in London's Mayfair district.

Oswald's is strict about taking photos and allowing social media within the venue , according to the club's member's privacy notice.

Actors Tom Cruise and Salma Hayek both made an appearance at Beckham's party and while one left an impression with their outfit, the other left it all on the dance floor, the Daily Mail reported.

Cruise, who turned 61 in July 2023, stunned guests when he began demonstrating "a series of breakdancing moves, culminating in splits," the outlet said.

"People were absolutely dumbfounded," one guest told the Daily Mail.

While no photos or videos of Cruise dancing exist online, social media users continue to poke fun at the expense of the "Mission Impossible" movie star. An X user who goes by @Douggernaut_2 posted a clip of actor Mike Myers dancing in the film "Austin Powers" and said, "Tom Cruise arriving at Victoria Beckham's bday."

Several social media users hearkened back to when Cruise played the Les Grossman character in the 2008 comedy movie "Tropic Thunder." Cruise would hilariously reprise the character during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards and dance to rapper Ludacris' song "Get Back."

"Remember when Tom Cruise did this," X user @charletty_ said Monday in a post reacting to the video of Cruise's full dance routine at the awards show.

During the routine with singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, Cruise does a split on stage. X user @danilo_parks said Monday in a post, "It's real Tom Cruise does the splits mania out there today."

In addition to seeing Cruise do splits and the Spice Girls perform, guests also received goody bags full of Beckham's branded products, including a candle and a fragrance, the Telegraph reported.

All the fun has people wondering where their invite was to Beckham's birthday party, including X user @StaceyVaselaney who said, "I’m sitting here shaking my head wondering why wasn’t I invited to Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday party."

Amidst a sea of celebrities, Tom reportedly stole the show thanks to his attention-grabbing dance moves. The "Top Gun: Maverick" star arrived at Oswalds, a private club in London, to attend the glitzy affair dressed to the nines in a full tuxedo. Once the party really got going, Tom reportedly showed off his unexpected breakdancing skills. One source even informed  the Daily Mail  that "People were absolutely dumbfounded" by the committed performance. 

While he may seem like a particularly unexpected star to steal the spotlight at a party hosted by Victoria and David Beckham, these A-listers actually go way back. In fact, Tom has been pals with the Beckhams for over two decades. However, after enjoying a close friendship for years, there were rumors of a feud that apparently destroyed their relationship following a mysterious fight that occurred sometime in 2013. Although they didn't avoid each other in the ensuing years, the trio reportedly wasn't as close. Clearly, though, Tom's friendship with the couple is all patched up these days, and he was sure to make it known to the world by celebrating Victoria's birthday in a big way. This did, however, make fans wonder why he didn't do the same for Suri Cruise.

Tom Cruise's relationship with Holmes has been rocky since long before their contentious 2012 divorce, especially given his ongoing ties to the Church of Scientology. And, for the past while, Tom seemed to be on the outs with Suri, too. The "Mission Impossible" star made his priorities clear when he didn't bother to travel across the pond from the U.K. to celebrate his daughter's milestone birthday. 

However, according to insider info passed on to the  Daily Mail , Tom's absence from Suri's celebration may have been what the birthday girl really wanted. "Suri will not have any contact with her father, despite being 18, and even if he called, she would not answer," the source revealed, adding, 'He does not exist to Katie or Suri, and his daughter does not want to rely on him for anything. She feels that she has one parent and that is her mother."

If this accurately represents their family dynamics, then perhaps the A-lister chose to spend the weekend partying with friends to distract himself from his increasingly tough relationship with his daughter . And, while things may remain frosty between Tom and Suri, he was at least able to spend the weekend celebrating the Beckhams and burying the rumored hatchet with them. Hopefully, there will be more mended relationships in the future. 

Tom Cruise wasn't the only star dancing at the birthday bash

While Tom Cruise's presence and breakdance routine may have been the center of attention at Victoria Beckham's big birthday celebration, from the sound of it, there were plenty of other memorable moments, too. Victoria's fellow Spice Girls Geri Halliwell-Horner, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown, and Melanie Chisholm were all there to celebrate Posh Spice. The group even danced together to their 1997 hit, "Stop." Clearly, Victoria is not short on A-list friends and family members who are eager to celebrate with her as she kicks off a new decade. Victoria, of course, had her husband David Beckham by her side as well as their four children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.

To have all eyes on you amidst a crowd of superstars and a Spice Girls reunion is quite a feat. Tom managed to accomplish this not only by breaking out in a dance that made his famous "Risky Business" dance moves pale in comparison but even reportedly did splits on the dance floor. It's really no wonder, then, that the 61-year-old actor had folks talking. Unfortunately, for those of us who were not in attendance at the memorable affair, we likely won't be privy to any footage of it. Katie Holmes and her daughter, Suri Cruise, stepped out for a caffeine pick-me-up just days after celebrating the high schooler’s 18th birthday without her estranged father, Tom Cruise.

The “Dawson’s Creek” star and the teen were seen going for a coffee run during a mother-daughter stroll in New York City on Monday.

Holmes, 45, was spotted carrying a hot cup of joe while her look-alike offspring held an iced coffee in one hand and a water cup in the other.

Suri looked stylish in a long patterned maxi dress layered under a brown cardigan and a denim jacket. She finished the ensemble with brown boots and some delicate gold jewelry.

As for her mom, Holmes, 45, looked trendy in baggy blue jeans, black and white Adidas Samba sneakers, and a red and white striped button-down peeping out from under her cozy gray sweater.

The actress accessorized with oversize sunglasses and a slouchy black leather shoulder bag.

Suri celebrated her milestone birthday on April 18 in the Big Apple. She was seen stepping out in the rainy weather with friends while en route to her festivities.

During her celebrations, her father was across the pond in the UK, where he is filming “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.”

While Tom, 61, skipped out on commemorating his daughter’s big day, he attended his friend Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday party in London just days later.

A fellow attendee shared that the “Top Gun” star stole the show when he started breakdancing and doing splits at the fashion designer’s star-studded fête.

Two days after her birthday, Tom remained in the UK, attending showbiz pal Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday party instead. It's after he was pictured lapping up the bash with his Hollywood friends that the actor reportedly feels "guilty", according to insiders.

It's been widely reported that Tom hasn't been involved in Suri's life for several years. According to Katie and Tom's divorce documents, he agreed to pay his ex-wife $400,000 a month until Suri turned 18. Tom also agreed to pay all of Suri's expenses, including "medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs".

Now it's thought he wants to reconnect, with a source telling Heat: "Tom is feeling guilty about missing so much of her life, but insists that he hasn’t completely shut Suri out of his life, and does get updates from time to time." The insider says Tom made the deal to "allow her and her mother to live their own lives because that was what Katie wanted".

But now Suri's turned 18, the star reportedly "feels she's old enough to make her own choices" and "wants to reach out and build a better relationship with her". The Mirror has contacted Tom's reps for comment. Katie reportedly 'shielded' Suri's life from the spotlight, as well as her ex's beliefs. They tied the knot in Italy in 2006 at a Scientologist ceremony, but as the years went on, Katie began feeling "intimidated" by the church.

According to reports, Katie didn't want to raise Suri as a Scientologist after seeing Tom's first wife Nicole Kidman "become distant" with their kids, per MailOnline in 2016. Katie fumed when members of the Church of Scientology moved into the ex-couple's home.

Ron Miscavige, the father of Scientology leader David, told the outlet there is a "toxic" policy of "disconnection" operating within the church. Speaking to MailOnline five years before he died in 2016, he said: "That didn't sit so well with Katie."
