Here’s a table showing the benefits of Trek 7100 features on performance.

Comparison with Other Bikes

In this comparison section, you'll learn how the Trek 7100 stacks up against mountain, road, and other hybrid bikes.

Trek 7100 and Mountain Bikes

The Trek 7100 is not a full-blown mountain bike, but its suspension fork offers some capabilities for off-road use.

Here are some key differences between the Trek 7100 and typical mountain bikes:

  • Suspension: The Trek 7100 features a suspension fork for added comfort, while mountain bikes usually have more advanced front and rear suspensions for rough terrain.
  • Tires: Mountain bikes have wider, knobbier tires designed for better grip on dirt and rocks, while the Trek 7100 has narrower tires geared toward street and light trail use.
  • Weight: Mountain bikes can be heavy due to their durable construction and suspension systems. The Trek 7100, with its lightweight aluminum frame, is lighter, making it easier to maneuver and ride uphill.

Trek 7100 and Road Bikes

While the Trek 7100 Hybrid is suitable for pavement, it's not as specialized as a road bike. Here's how they differ:

  • Riding position: Road bikes are more aggressive for better aerodynamics and power transfer. The Trek 7100 offers an upright riding position for comfort and improved visibility in traffic.
  • Speed: Road bikes are designed for maximum speed, often having lighter frames, narrower tires, and a more aerodynamic body. The Trek 7100 is slower, but it provides a more comfortable ride for commuting and casual use.
  • Tire clearance: Road bikes have limited tire clearance, restricting their ability to handle gravel or dirt surfaces. The Trek 7100 can accommodate wider tires for more versatility.

Trek 7100 and Hybrid Bikes

Comparing the Trek 7100 to other hybrid bikes, you'll find it a reliable and comfortable option. Here are some key aspects worth considering:

  • Frame geometry: The steep head tube angle of the Trek 7100 allows for slightly faster rides on both uphill and downhill commutes compared to other hybrid bikes.
  • Comfort: The Trek 7100's sit-to-stand riding position, soft seat, and subtle chain sound are great for casual or longer commutes on bike paths.
  • Price: The Trek 7100 offers a budget-friendly price tag while providing high-quality components and a durable aluminum frame.

Trek 7100 vs. Trek Dual Sport

As a fellow hybrid bike, the Trek Dual Sport is worth mentioning. Though both are versatile options, Trek Dual Sport leans more towards off-road capabilities with its more aggressive tread pattern, hydraulic disc brakes, and advanced front suspension fork.

Here’s a table comparing Trek 7100 and Trek Dual Spot.

Suitability for Different Users

The Trek 7100 is a versatile hybrid bike that caters to various users, including commuters and off-road adventurers.

Commuters' Experience

As a daily commuter, you need a reliable, smooth-riding bike that can handle city streets and provide optimal comfort. The Trek 7100's lightweight aluminum frame makes it easy to maneuver in traffic, and the upright riding position ensures a comfortable commute.

With a wide range of gears, the hybrid bike lets you navigate hills effortlessly, making it a popular choice for those who commute to work regularly.

Ride Comfort

The bike's suspension fork absorbs bumpy roads, while the webspring saddle provides a soft seat for longer rides. To further enhance your commuting performance, the 700 x 35c tires balance grip, durability, and low rolling resistance.

Convenience Features

The Trek 7100 has a rear rack for carrying your belongings, making it a practical choice for commuters. Additionally, it's easy to attach additional accessories like fenders or a bike lock.

All in all, the Trek 7100 offers an enjoyable commuting experience that makes it suitable for city streets, bike paths, and even light trails.

Off-Road Adventures

While the Trek 7100 is not a full-fledged mountain bike, it does offer decent off-road performance for casual woodland trails and outdoor excursions. Its suspension fork offers improved traction and handling, while the aluminum frame keeps the weight low for better maneuverability.

Tire Performance

The bike comes with 700 x 35c tires, which provide an adequate grip on loose gravel and dirt surfaces. However, for more aggressive off-road riding, consider upgrading to wider or knobbier tires.

Terrain Capability

Although it can't compete with dedicated mountain bikes on challenging terrain, the Trek 7100 can handle moderate trails, making it a great option for casual off-road riders.

Here’s a table comparing commuter experience and off-road adventure.

Frame and fork.

If you’re looking for a hybrid bike that’s built to last and can handle a variety of terrains, the frame and fork are two components you want to pay close attention to. After all, they’re the backbone of the bike, providing stability and support as you ride.

Fortunately, the Trek 7100 has you covered in both departments. At the core of this bike is an Alpha white aluminum frame that’s designed to be both lightweight and strong. It’s built to last, so you won’t have to worry about it giving up on you after just a few rides.

trek 7100 tire clearance

In addition to the frame, the fork is also an important component of any bike. The Trek 7100 comes equipped with a preload adjustable SR Suntour NEX fork that offers 50mm of travel.

This means that it can absorb the shock and vibrations that come with riding on rough or bumpy roads, providing a smoother and more comfortable ride.

And since the Trek 7100 is built for paved roads and city streets, the fork provides enough protection from road noise to make your ride more enjoyable.

But it’s not just about comfort – the Trek 7100 is designed to be efficient and fast, too. The steep head tube angle allows it to handle uphill and downhill commutes with ease, making it a great choice for riders who want a bike that can keep up with them.

Gears and Brakes

When it comes to hybrid bikes, having a wide gear range is crucial to getting the most out of your ride. It’s what allows you to smoothly transition between different speeds and handle a variety of terrains.

The Trek 7100 delivers on this front, thanks to its high-quality components. With 7-speed SRAM shifters and Shimano M191 front derailleur, you’ll be able to shift gears smoothly and easily, even when you’re going up steep hills or facing strong headwinds.

trek 7100 tire clearance

And with an SRAM X3 rear derailleur, you can trust that your bike will handle whatever terrain you’re on.

But it’s not just about the gears – the brakes are just as important when it comes to the overall performance of a hybrid bike.

That’s why the Trek 7100 comes equipped with Tektro linear pull brakes that provide reliable stopping power when you need it. And when you’re navigating crowded city streets, you can trust that these brakes will help keep you safe and in control.

The combination of these components is what sets the Trek 7100 apart from other hybrid bikes on the market.

It’s built to deliver the performance of a road bike, but with the comfort and versatility of a hybrid bike. This makes it a great choice for commuting, exercising, or just getting around your neighborhood.

And despite being a low-end SRAM twist shifter, the performance of the Trek 7100’s gearing system is nothing to scoff at.

With a 21-speed set-up, you’ll have a wide range of gears to choose from, allowing you to customize your ride to your preferences.

Plus, the shifts are quick and easy, so you won’t have to worry about fumbling with the gears while on the go.

Wheels and Tires

The wheels and tires of a bike play a crucial role in its performance, and Trek 7100 hybrid bike has impressive wheels and tires that make it stand out from other bikes in its class.

trek 7100 tire clearance

It has Bontrager H4 tires, which are sized at 700 x 35c and known for accelerating quickly on flat trails. They are perfect for smooth roads and provide excellent traction, especially when combined with the 3X7 drivetrain.

Even though it’s not as fast as a road bike, the 7100 is more comfortable to ride than many road bikes in the same price range. I believe comfort is important for commuters who spend a lot of time on their bike.

The rims also feature the same high-quality construction as the rest of the bike’s components. It’s a Bontrager 550 36-hole alloy rims, which are double-walled to ensure durability.

From experience, I’d say the combination of road bike tires and strong alloy rims make the Trek 7100 an excellent commuter bike.

Saddle and Handlebars

The Trek 7100 has a wide, well-padded saddle that offers great comfort for your backside, especially on longer rides. The flexible suspension seatpost is an added bonus, as it provides additional protection from impacts on the road.

And you can easily customize your riding position to suit your comfort level, since the seat height can be adjusted for a good fit.

trek 7100 tire clearance

The handlebars are Bontrager Approved with a solid steel build and a 50mm rise. This design allows you to ride with a comfortable posture that reduces stress on your shoulders, back, and neck.

Trek 7100 also has an adjustable stem; a great feature that lets you fine-tune your bike’s fitting to your specific needs. The stem allows you to adjust the height of the handlebars, and by doing so, you can achieve a more comfortable riding position for your body type and riding style.

This feature is especially important when you’re going on long rides, as you may need to adjust your position frequently to avoid fatigue.

With a range of frame sizes available, from 15″ to 25″, you can find the perfect fit for your body type.

It’s important to get the right size for your height to ensure maximum comfort and efficiency when riding.

In terms of weight, the Trek 7100 is relatively lightweight for a mountain bike, making it easy to handle and maneuver.

The average weight is around 28.7 lbs (13 kg), but this may vary depending on the frame size you choose. Some sizes can weigh up to 34 lbs.

Despite its lightweight design, the Trek 7100 can support riders who weigh up to 275 to 300 lbs, which is a great feature for heavier riders.

Is The Trek 7100 A Good Hybrid Bike? [Trek 7100 Review]

Table of Contents

The Trek 7100 is a hybrid bike that builds on the Trek 7000. The Trek 7100, which debuted almost 20 years ago in 2002, is an affordable, versatile bike that many commuters adore.

2012 trek 7100

The price is reasonable, and because the hybrid bike is a cross between a mountain bike and a regular bike, the comfort and all other aspects of the bike are of high quality.

Welcome to the Best Bike Select blog. Below, we break down the Trek 7100’s mountain and general commuting performance, components and specs, and comparisons with several other versions, as well as some comparison tables to help you choose a suitable hybrid bike.

If you want to learn more, check out our list of the Top 12 Best Hybrid Bikes Under $500 For Men And Women.

Mountain Performance

2012 trek 7100 E

Given that the Trek 7100 is a hybrid bike, it’s reasonable to expect it to outperform a professional mountain bike in the mountains.

However, when it comes to general mountain riding, there aren’t many complaints if you ride the Trek 7100.

To begin with, climbs, particularly fast climbs on trails, are popular among mountain bikers, and the Trek 7100 hybrid performs admirably on such terrain.

It can accelerate quickly on flat trails thanks to the 3X7 drivetrain, and the medium 700*35C hybrid tires provide some power for fast climbs.

However, one of the trek 7100’s riding limitations is that it is not suitable for steep climbs.

The descending performance is also comparable to that of a standard bike.

The steep head tube angle allows for good performance on smooth forest road singletrack, but it is slightly lacking on rough ground and does not allow for too fancy moves, so this is a hybrid bike that can be ridden in the mountains and is ideal for simple mountain riding.

Commuting Performance

2012 trek 7100 WSD

The trek 7100 excels at road riding.

When it comes to sidewalk handling, the trek 7100 can handle it with ease, whether it’s a slightly potholed surface or a brick-lined sidewalk.

Although not as fast as a road bike, the 7100 is more comfortable to ride than road bikes in the same price range.

Park trails or woodland trails by the street will be very easy with only 50 mm of fork travel, and loose branches will have almost no effect on it. Fenders and a rear rack are optional extras.

It is now more suitable for commuting.

When compared to other hybrid bikes, the Trek 7100 rides slightly faster due to its steep head tube angle, which allows it to be faster on both uphill and downhill commuting roads.

I prefer the Trek 7100 for riding on park trails because the sit-to-stand riding position, soft seat, and subtle chain sound make it easier to get to your destination.

Aluminum Frame (4.0/5)

trek 7100 tire clearance

Most hybrid bikes are built with both men’s and women’s frames. And the Trek 7100 is no different.

The Trek 7100 women’s bike has a straddle style frame that makes riding easier for women. The men’s frame is more akin to a woodland mountain bike.

The homogenized frame makes it difficult for riders to choose, but the frame of the Trek 7100 retains the Trek 7000 model, so there are no overly complicated changes when riding in the mountains.

Front Fork (3.5/5)

The 7100 in 2002 used a less expensive steel fork, so the body weight was lighter, but it was less comfortable for mountain trail riding.

The 7100, on the other hand, has since adopted an aluminum suspension with only 50 mm of travel, but for a hybrid bike that focuses on commuting and comfortable riding, the cost is low on the one hand, and the performance of other components must be considered on the other.

As a result, it is an acceptable type of suspension. When riding in a normal mountain, the fork does not have a soft or hard damping effect, making it more difficult to bottom out. Trek’s fork performs better in all of the effects observed.

3X7 drivetrain (4.0/5)

Shimano’s drivetrain has the same configuration as the drivetrain of many cheap mountain bikes nowadays, and it performs well in terms of sturdiness and riding efficiency, as well as responsiveness.

Commuter riding is less likely to encounter intense riding riders, but dealing with the terrain of commuting is one of its strengths, with 21-speed combinations that provide a wide range of shifts.

SRAM Shift Levers (4.2/5)

Despite being a low-end SRAM twist shifter, there isn’t much to complain about when shifting given the performance of SRAM in this component. The shifts are quick and easy.

Crisp shifting sounds, as well as violent shifting, enable simultaneous front and rear gear changes. Durable shifter that has been in use for over 5 years.

Bontrager Webspring Saddle (4.5/5)

The Trek 7100 multitrack comes standard with a Bontrager seat that hasn’t received too many complaints about its comfort.

The benefits of a comfortable bike were transferred to a hybrid bike, which appeared to be more advanced at the time.

The mesh saddle is very breathable, but it is more difficult to clean. The lower part of the Saddle has shock-absorbing springs for added comfort. When riding, there is also some shock absorption.

The seat height can be adjusted at any time to accommodate different riding positions. As a result, the 7100 hybrid is an extremely comfortable hybrid bike.

Slightly swept back handlebar (3.8/5)

This is a middle option between mountain riding and comfortable riding. Not only can it be ridden sitting up, but it can also be adapted to general mountain climbing riding.

Accommodates a wide variety of riding positions on a wide variety of terrain.

700 x 35c tires (4.0/5)

The tires on the Trek 7100 bike are those of a road bike. The standard tire size without the multi-section mountain bike tread is 700 x 35c.

Commuter road riding is more concerned with speed and comfort. The double-walled alloy rims ensure that they will last a long time and will not deform.

With the inner tube configuration, no specific parameters for how much air pressure were discovered, which has no effect on your daily riding.

It can roll very smoothly on smooth roads, and it can also provide a strong grip on brick roads. The tread is softer and offers more traction in turns.

Benefits of the trek 7100

  • Affordable price, the selling price has never exceeded $500
  • Lightweight aluminum frame with relatively low overall weight
  • 3×7 drivetrain that offers a wide range of shifts
  • Soft seat for a comfortable ride
  • Standard tires for a fast ride
  • Equipped with a simple fork with shock absorption in commuter roads

What we don’t like about it

  • Alloy cable pull brakes that limit mountain riding
  • The travel is relatively short, only 50 mm
  • The pedals are of average quality and easily damaged

trek 7100 hybrid Specs

  • What is the body weight of trek 7100?

About 29.1(13KG) pounds. Some reviews point out that it is similar to the Trek 3700.

  • How much is the trek 7100 worth?

Depending on the condition of the bike, it is expected to be $66-$130. The better the condition of the bike, the higher the value.

Other versions

2002 trek 7100.

2002 Trek 7100

The older 2002 Trek 7100 has no shock fork, the rigid alloy fork is very comfortable and lighter for normal road riding, but the steel handlebar will rust if not carefully maintained. But overall it is still very strong.

2005 Trek 7100

2005 Trek 7100

For the first time, a shock-front fork is used. Other components are not too different from the 2002 Trek 7100, but the whole bike is made of more aluminum components, so it is easier to maintain.

2011 Trek 7100

2011 Trek 7100

Commuting comfort has been improved with the Bontrager Boulevard saddle, which is tougher and softer. Longer commutes require them more, and the handlebar swept back a bit to allow for faster riding.

2012 Trek 7100

The closest 2012 Trek 7100, the more common hybrid bike on the used bike platform. Not much different from the 2011 Trek 7100, but the paint color is a bit more stylish.

You like casual riding on all kinds of terrain, or the occasional rough patch in your commute.

The Trek Dual Sport 1 is an excellent choice.

A lightweight aluminum frame, a shock fork with enough travel to excel in rough terrain, a dependable 16-speed drivetrain with multiple gearing so you never pedal too hard or too soft, all-terrain tires that grip but roll fast, and disc brakes for all-weather braking power are all included.

It has mechanical disc brakes, as opposed to the Trek 7100, for better braking and less maintenance. The fork travel has been increased to 63mm, which is more than adequate.

While it is not designed for strenuous mountain riding, it is ideal for less crowded forest trails or small bumps in the hilly wilderness. 45c tires have more traction, making it easier to ride in rough terrain.

Schwinn Discover Hybrid Bike vs Trek 7100

Schwinn Discover Hybrid Bike

The Schwinn Discover Hybrid Bike is a popular Schwinn hybrid bike.

The Schwinn Discover is known for its comfortable ride, and it has an aluminum frame similar to the Trek 7100, as well as a 3X7 drivetrain.

And the MSRP is very close to the Trek 7100, with more paint color options for a more stylish commuter ride than the Trek 7100. The configuration is not as advanced as the other models mentioned previously.

It is a hybrid mountain bike that can also be used for basic mountain riding. If you prefer a more comfortable bike, the Schwinn Discover is a good option.

Schwinn Cabo Cruiser Women’s Bike vs Trek 7100

schwinn cabo cruiser women's bike

For the ladies, we’ve got a comparison of the Schwinn Cabo and Trek 7100. The Schwinn Cabo is not as well equipped as the Trek 7100, but it is a simpler and more practical bike that many women prefer for commuting.

For starters, its lovely color scheme and large swept-back handlebars make it easier for ladies to see the scenery as they ride.

The original model also includes a basket and a rear rack, as well as mudguards and a chain guard.

The Schwinn Cabo is the ideal hybrid bike for urban women, with more storage space for casual holiday trips and more items to bring along.

Final Verdict (4.0/5)

The Trek 7100 is just the right configuration at an affordable price. A hybrid bike that can accommodate commuting and rugged trail riding. The lack of heavyweight and wide gear range makes the Trek 7100 a good hybrid bike. We ended up giving Trek 7100 a rating of 4.5 out of 5.

Trek 7100 Hybrid Bike Review

If you’re looking for a bike that offers the best riding experience on both smooth and rough terrains, a hybrid bike is the one for you.

With qualities of both a road and mountain bike, a hybrid bicycle is ideal for cyclists who engage in casual and off-road riding.

Below is a comprehensive review of one of the top-notch quality hybrid bikes around; the trek 7100 hybrid bike. We have reviewed in detail everything you need to know about this bicycle, from its wheels to its handlebars, gears, and more.

Table of Contents

Similar to its predecessor, this hybrid bike has a “silent” laid-back look that is not really out there but is elegant enough to fit almost any rider’s taste.

The trek 7100 bike features an aluminum frame known for its high strength-to-weight ratio. The trek 7100 bike features an aluminum frame known for its high strength-to-weight ratio. This means that it is lightweight but highly durable.

Another overlooked benefit of this frame is that it doesn’t twist when pedaling. This allows you to focus your energy on moving the bike forward rather than flexing it.

The frame also doesn’t rust, but it does corrode. However, this can be advantageous since a protective layer is formed over the frame if it corrodes.

Another recognizable upgrade in this bike compared to its predecessor is the frame’s aerodynamic design. This is largely contributed by the aluminum material that has made it easy for the manufacturer to mold it into a more aerodynamic shape. And the more aerodynamic a bicycle is in general, the faster you’ll be able to ride.

However, one of its downsides is the limited color options. The frame comes in two colors, alpha white and alpha silver which is quite a disadvantage since there are not many options to choose from.

The frame is also stiff, meaning it doesn’t have high impact absorption qualities. This makes your rides quite uncomfortable, especially when riding on rough terrains.

Another downside is that it is difficult to repair this frame. Repairing an aluminum bike requires some expertise, meaning you have to look for an expert to repair it.

2. Wheels and Tires

The Trek 7100 hybrid bike comes with two-wheel options, Bontrager 550 36-hole alloy rims and Bontrager 750 32-hole alloy rims.

While both have impressive performance, the major difference between the two options is the rim width.

The 550 36-alloy rims are slightly wider than the other option, making them more aerodynamic, resulting in higher cycling speeds. These wider rims also provide more traction, which reduces the chances of you skidding or sliding off the road.

Another major difference between these two options is the spoke count. The 550 36-hole rims have more spokes than their 32-hole counterparts. Rims with a higher spoke count tend to weigh more, making them stronger and more stable.

However, the extra weight leads to more air resistance while riding, which reduces your cycling speed, especially when accelerating.

The bike features a pair of Bontrager H4, 700×35c tires, which are considerably wide. This means they’re more stable and have higher impact absorption qualities, making your rides more comfortable regardless of the terrain you’re riding on.

However, they have higher rolling resistance, causing you to use more energy to propel the bike forward, especially when accelerating. What’s more, they are also not that maneuverable, making them unsuitable for twisty trails.

Trek 7100 Hybrid Bike

3. Handlebars

The trek multitrack 7100 comes with a pair of steel handlebars in two options, the 30mm rise and the 50mm rise. Steel material has a reputation for being highly durable and easy to repair, so it is a good choice for these handlebars.

When it comes to the performance, it mainly depends on the rise. A handlebar’s rise is basically the vertical distance from the center of the handlebar to its end. So, the higher the rise, the taller the handlebar will feel.

Your ideal handlebar rise mainly depends on your riding style and position. In this case, if you’re into race riding, the 30mm rise will be your ideal handlebar height.

With this height, you will be able to stay in a more aerodynamic riding position, reducing your body’s air resistance and increasing your cycling speed. We also noticed that this handlebar height pushes the rider’s weight to the front wheel for more precise cornering. This height also increases traction on the front tire for more stability and control while riding.

On the other hand, if you’re more of a casual rider, the 50mm rise handlebar option is the perfect one for you. This height allows you to be in a more upright and laid-back riding position. Most customers have pointed out that this handlebar height enhances their control, especially when riding downhill.

The bike also features an adjustable stem, allowing you to increase or decrease the handlebars’ height to your liking.

4. Speed and Gears

A bicycle’s gear system significantly contributes to its overall performance in terms of speed and stability on different terrains. Well, the trek 7100 hybrid bike didn’t disappoint.

It features a 7-speed gear system with an SRAM X3 rear derailleur and a Shimano Tourney front derailleur. The included seven gears allow you to adjust your pedaling rate depending on the trail you’re riding on for more comfortable and safer rides.

Another major advantage of this multiple gear system is that it allows the rider to quickly change gears without necessarily pedaling, which comes in handy, especially in traffic stops.

The 7-speed gear system also makes the bike more maneuverable, especially on twisty trails. The multiple gears allow you to adjust your pedaling rate to take on corners without any difficulties.

4. Brakes and Suspension

The trek 7100 bike features an SR Suntour front suspension fork with a 50mm travel. Many hybrid bikes out here don’t have a suspension fork because it is assumed that cyclists who ride them mostly do so on paved terrains.

Well, the trek 7100 hybrid bike manufacturers decided to make it a versatile bike by including a front suspension fork. This bike component makes rides more comfortable and smooth regardless of the terrain you’re riding on by absorbing vibrations on uneven road parts.

However, some customers have mentioned that the front suspension fork increases the weight of the bicycle. This may be a disadvantage if you are very keen on weight.

As we just mentioned, this hybrid bike’s suspension fork has a 50mm travel. A suspension fork’s travel is the maximum distance it compresses when absorbing vibrations or force from the bumpy sections of the terrain before bottoming out.

According to bike experts, the longer the travel, the greater the force being absorbed and vice versa. When it comes to this suspension fork’s travel, we noticed that it absorbs impacts perfectly on smooth trails and provides more comfortable rides when going uphill. However, it doesn’t perform well when riding downhill.

The bike also features a pair of Tektro linear-pull brakes. This brake set is considered to be an advanced version of cantilever brakes. They provide more stopping power and are easier to adjust for safer rides. What’s more, you can easily find a replacement, making things much easier when your brakes are faulty.

Check out: Sixthreezero Women’s Around the Block Review

This bike doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the bike seat. It features a Bontrager SSR saddle with springs at the bottom for extra comfort when riding. What’s more, the seat has a breathable fabric, which takes its comfort qualities to a whole new level. It also comes with an adjustable seat post, allowing you to adjust the saddle to your preferred height.

While many cyclists may not put much thought into it, a bike seat’s height significantly determines your overall comfort and performance while riding. If your saddle’s height is too high, you might feel pain behind your knee due to overextending your legs to reach the pedals.

If your saddle is too low, you may feel pain at the front of your knee due to the pressure exerted on it by your upper body. The wrong saddle height may also affect your pedaling efficiency, which affects your cycling speed.

So, how do you set your saddle to the correct height? Well, the first thing to do is to determine your inseam measurement. This is the length of the inner part of your leg from the crotch to the ground.

Once you have your inseam measurements, set your saddle to a height that is 10cm or 3.9 inches less than your inseam.

Another recommendable tip is to set your bike seat to a height that allows your heels to graze the pedal at the bottom of its stroke at a “6 o’clock position,” that is, a 180° angle position.

It’s also important to keep in mind that your preferred riding style and position majorly determine your saddle height.

If you’re into race riding, it’s advisable to set your bike seat height at about an inch or two lower than your handlebars. This will enable you to be in a more aerodynamic position while riding.

On the other hand, if you’re more of a casual rider, it’s best to set your saddle height at about an inch or two higher than the handlebars for a more upright riding position.

6. Maintenance

Regarding maintenance, this bike has its fair share of advantages and downsides. For starters, the aluminum bike frame is quite challenging to repair. Typically, when repairing an aluminum bike frame, one has to temper or heat treat the entire frame; otherwise, it will not hold for a long time. This repairing process requires the hands of a skilled repairman, which is often hard to find.

Its 7-speed gear system is highly durable, requiring little maintenance. However, since this is a multiple-geared bicycle, it means there are more technical parts to maintain, which may be a downside.

Trek Tire Clearance

  • Add to quote

Hey Everyone, So I had been wondering about tire clearance on a Trek Domane and what it could fit. A trek rep was in the store when this was being discussed and mentioned that all Trek bikes are designed to have at minimum a 6mm tire clearance on all non-moving parts of the bike. With this in mind I looked at about 3-4 domanes (including my own at home) and there is more like 4-5mm in some sections. So a random question, but if trek "designs" their bikes with a minimum of 6mm, why does it seem less on Trek bikes out in the wild? Maybe they don't consider which tires are being used?

The rep is full of crap or you misinterpreted. Bikes are designed with a max tire clearance in mind. Designing around a minimum has no logic at all. It might make a little sense in the context of discussing wind tunnel testing but otherwise just ignore what you heard.

So then if there is less than 6mm somewhere, its ok? This was a previous CS rep from Trek and even said he wasn't too keen on the details, just that the magic number was 6mm in terms of a bikes design to allow for.

You'll have to decide for yourself how close you're willing to push it.

To clarify a little, the rep said there are bike safety guidelines, and that Trek tries to make sure there is a minimum of 6mm on any non moving parts of the bike of tire clearance. I think its a safety thing?

I suppose it depends how much your wheels/frame flex and how much crap you pick up on your tires while riding. I have around 3-4mm on my road bike (non-Trek, but brand is sort of irrelevant), and it's never been an issue. As far as the Domane is concerned, it will fit at least a 28. The direct mount brakes really help with clearance. If you're go with discs, I'd assume that would open it up even more. This is apparently a 28 on a rim bike: http://trek.scene7.com/is/image/TrekBicycleProducts/1460000_2017_B_5_Domane_SL_6

Where will you ride?

Bike tires are available in a variety of sizes to fit different bike wheels, with a variety of different tread patterns designed for specific terrain. Whereas tires made for the road are often smoother and narrower to roll fast, tires made for the trail are wider and have a heftier tread pattern for more traction. As you’re searching for the best tires for your bike, the first thing to consider is where you’ll ride.

  • EXPLORE THE TIRE FINDER

Tires for the open road are generally smoother, lighter, and roll faster. If you have a road, fitness, or commuter bike and spend most of your time on pavement, this is a good place to start. These tires balance puncture protection and weight, and have varying degrees of tread.

City roads, paths, and trails

If you’re a multi-surface rider, you’ll find a match here. These tires have extra durability, built-in puncture protection for fewer flats, and a more pronounced tread for traction on rougher roads and gravel paths.

Dirt trails

If you’re riding trails, mountain bike tires are for you. More tread means more traction, but tires with a lighter tread generally roll faster and weigh less.

Gravel roads, paths, and cyclocross

Like road tires, these are designed to be lightweight and roll fast — but they also have additional tread for better traction. Tires with more tread will give you more grip, and smoother tires will roll faster.

Kids’ tires

Our kids’ bike tires are built to stand up to any adventure. But kids’ bikes come in a variety of wheel sizes, so be sure to choose a tire that fits the wheel!

  12. what is the correct tire size for a trek 7300 multitrack?

    1. @joe 32 or 35 or 37 is the "nominal width" of the tyre in millimetres which is very close to its height when installed. But the measurement may vary by plus or minus 10% so a 32 could be as small as 29mm or as large as 35mm. Basically your tyre has to fit inside the forks/stays and under the brakes. - Criggie ♦.

  13. Considering a Trek multitrack 7200 for gravel riding : r/xbiking

The original Multitracks would fit monster tires but the aluminum iterations less so. The clearance was sacrificed for sportier geo. You can do gravel one small' tires but the closer to can get to 40c or over the happier you'll be. Another contender if you can find one is a mid nineties Specialized Crossroads Cruz.
