Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
  • Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).

Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to

VTIC announces City of Melbourne as Presenting Partner for 2023 Victorian Tourism Awards

victorian tourism awards 2023

The Victorian Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) has announced a partnership with City of Melbourne as Presenting Partner for the 2023 Victorian Tourism Awards.

The VTIC is the peak industry body representing Victoria’s $35 billion visitor economy and its award has supported the industry in striving for excellence for over 30 years.

VTIC CEO, Felicia Mariani, said VTIC was thrilled to align once again with City of Melbourne in delivering such a crucial program for the tourism and events industry in Victoria.

“The Tourism Awards have always been about celebrating hard work and dedication in creating quality tourism experiences,” Mariani, said.

“This has never been more important than over the past two years, when the industry has struggled under its worst challenges in living memory.

“Recognising the need to celebrate and support an industry that has meant so much to the city and to the state, in 2021 the City of Melbourne stepped up to align with VTIC and take on the position as our Presenting Partner for these important awards.

“Over the past two years, their support and partnership has allowed us to celebrate the incredible resilience displayed by tourism businesses across our state and to acknowledge business excellence exhibited by so many Victorian tourism operators.”

In 2023, the Victorian Tourism Awards Gala event will this year include a special category for the City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Award, which will recognise one Greater Melbourne business for their commitment to responsible tourism.

This is a unique category that has been created to specifically support the focus that City of Melbourne has placed on sustainability within their strategic priories.

Aer three decades of an awards program that recognises the best tourism products and experiences in Victoria and across Australia, the City of Melbourne is proud to join the exclusive list of prestigious organisations that have taken a prime position in partnering with this event.

“The City of Melbourne is honoured to present an inaugural award in 2023 to showcase businesses who demonstrate responsible and sustainable tourism practices,” Lord Mayor, City of Melbourne, Sally Capp, said.

International research shows this is becoming increasingly important to travellers across the globe – that’s why we want to encourage and reward this work.

“Our tourism and events businesses are at the forefront of making Melbourne the best place to live, work and visit – and we’re thrilled to celebrate an industry that has shaped the success of our city and state for the last 30 years.”

Leah Glynn

Looking for some regional travel inspo? You’ve come to the right place. The 2023 TAC Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards  just ran, and three very deserving winners have taken out the major categories.

Ballarat was named Victoria’s Top Tourism Town (for places with a population over 5,000), Sorrento took gold for the Top Small Tourism Town Award (for places with a population between 1,500 and 5,000) and the coastal hamlet of Aireys Inlet came out a winner for the Top Tiny Tourism Town Award (population under 1,500).

These annual awards – hosted by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) – recognise and reward Victorian towns that put in the hard yards to create an amazing experience for visitors by working together with local businesses, tourism operators and the local community. Seventeen outstanding finalists were competing for the prize in 2023, with townships like Bendigo , Heathcote and Red Hill South earning silver medals, and Frankston , Woodend and Jamieson achieving bronze recognition.

“Tourism is the lifeblood of our regional towns and centres across Victoria and these awards  celebrate the commitment of these destinations to delivering the very best experiences, ensuring they create magical memories for their visitors to cherish,” said VTIC chief executive, Felicia Mariani.

The three Victorian winners will now go on to compete for the coveted title of Australia’s Top  Tourism Town in their respective categories, which will be announced on September 14 at  Parliament House in Canberra. We’ll absolutely be cheering them on – and booking our visits, asap.

Victorian Tourism Awards 2022

Published: 8 December 2022

The state’s iconic tourism accommodation, attractions and experiences and staff have shone bright at the Victorian Tourism Awards, held at CENTREPIECE, Melbourne Park in December.

Hosted by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), more than 950 tourism and events operators came together to honour individuals and businesses from across the state that showcase business excellence and performance in Victoria’s tourism industry.

Awards across 31 various tourism categories were up for grabs, with over 100 entrants striving for the gold awards.

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Cable Park and the Alexandra Hotel were inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame after winning gold in the same category for three consecutive years.

Other big winners on the night included Adventure Park Geelong, taking home gold in the Tourist Attractions category, and the 2022 Tesselaar KaBloom event, which attracts 70,000 visitors to the small town of Silvan in the Dandenong Ranges each year winning in Major Festivals and Events.

Geelong Gallery claimed the Cultural Tourism prize, while Healesville Sanctuary collected the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Tourism Experiences award.

The night was also a momentous occasion for DJSIR’s very own Stuart Toplis, Manager of Industry Support within the Tourism and Events Group who was awarded the prestigious VTIC Chairman’s Award.

Stuart was recognised for his excellent work supporting the tourism industry through response and recovery from emergencies for many years. We are thrilled his passion and commitment to the industry has been acknowledged.

DJSIR is delivering support for the state’s tourism sector. The Visitor Recovery and Reform Plan serves as a whole-of-state strategy, with a goal of achieving $35 billion in annual visitor expenditure and generating 300,000 jobs by June 2024.

For a full list of 2022 Victorian Tourism Awards recipients visit VTIC.

We acknowledge the Aboriginal Traditional Owners of Country throughout Victoria, their ongoing connection to this land and we pay our respects to their culture and their Elders past, present and future.

GAINESVILLE — Another close call to Oklahoma and the end of the Trinity Thomas era capped Florida’s 2023 season in gymnastics.

A program reset was inevitable. A massive overhaul was possible.

Instead, coach Jenny Rowland’s squad beat the odds and remained elite.

“It’s been very fulfilling to see this team go from point A to to where we are today,” she said.

The next step will be the hardest.

Florida is no shoo-in to advance to the NCAA Championships April 18-20 in Ft. Worth, Texas, despite missing out just twice (2000, ’19) in the event’s 41-year history. During this weekend’s Gainesville Regional, the No. 4 Gators will need one of their better efforts to secure one of two spots among nine teams, including No. 5 Utah, No. 10 Michigan State, No. 13 Missouri and No. 20 Georgia.

“You have to be on your A game,” Rowland said. “For this competition usually it’s not your A-plus game. It’s go and hit and who can hit the best. The Gators have consistently done that all season long, so not expecting anything less.”

Florida junior Leanne Wong is an 18-time All-American who has anchored a young Gators squad in 2024. (UF's University Athletic Association/Susan Erdelyi)

At their best, the Gators scored a season-high 198.1 points to beat No. 3 LSU on Feb. 23 in Gainesville. A week later, UF bettered the performance with a 198.225 at No. 6 Kentucky to edge the Wildcats by .125.

But a disappointing fourth-place finish during the star-studded SEC Championships, behind LSU, Kentucky and No. 7 Alabama, highlighted the sport’s razor-thin margin for error and Florida’s abundance of youth.

“How you respond and move forward … separate the great teams from the good teams?” Rowland said. “There were some mistakes. They weren’t big mistakes, but something that I don’t always mind because it makes you a little hungry.

“This team definitely came back ready for some more.”

The have the pieces in place to make another postseason run.

Veteran Leanne Wong, who tied for fourth in the SEC’s all-around competition, is the Gators’ anchor; 2022 Georgia transfer Victoria Nguyen, who tied for sixth, has proved to be another veteran presence; and Anya Pilgrim, who tied for eighth, headlines a freshman class featuring six newcomers.

Sloane Blakely, a junior who finished 12th all-around, rounds out a quartet capable of producing a score to reach the NCAAs Super Six for fourth straight year and possibly challenge for Oklahoma for UF’s first team title since its three-peat (2013-15).

Florida freshman gymnast Anya Pilgrim has emerged as one of the Gators' top performers, highlighted by a perfect 10 during the floor exercise March against Kentucky at Rupp Arena in Lexington. (UF's University Athletic Association Communications/Ashley Ray)

The Sooners nipped the Gators at the wire by .125 points in 2022 and .150 in ’23, when Thomas suffered a leg injury during the regional meet that limited her to the vault and uneven bars a season after she won the NCAA’s all-around title.

The end of Thomas’ college career and freshman phenom Kayla DiCello’s departure to focus on training for the Olympics left Rowland facing a rebuild.

But Nguyen’s development and Pilgrim’s season-long evolution have solidly filled the gaps.

A specialist in the uneven bars and balance beam at Georgia, Nguyen has become a top all-around performer primarily because of her strides in the vault. Meanwhile, Pilgrim has become a force, highlighted by a perfect 10 during the floor exercise at Kentucky.

“It’s been so fun to watch Anya compete,” Nguyen said. “Every week, she just seems to have this aura that glows even brighter. You can tell that she puts in the work in the gym.”

The Gators hope their hard work produces results at the right time. If nothing else, the 2024 season has shown the strength, resilience and staying power of Rowland’s program.

“I know a lot of people were like, ‘Oh, this is the rebuilding year,'”  Nguyen said. “But it doesn’t have to be rebuilding year. The girls have shown that.

“I’m excited to see where we can go from here.”
