Is there anything better than sipping a great glass of wine? In my opinion, the only thing that is better than sipping a glass of wine is enjoying that glass of wine with a loved one or a group of friends. When I am ready to do just that, I head out to some of my favorite wineries near Dallas.

Granted, wine probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Dallas, Texas, but I am here to help change that! The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is home to numerous wineries and vineyards that are just waiting to be explored.

Whether you are looking for a nice sweet wine or a great dry wine, these wineries near Dallas have you covered. Granted, all of these wineries aren’t in Dallas proper, but they are all near Dallas (within a two-hour drive), making them easy to visit from the Big D.

Let’s jump in and see what these North Texas wineries have to offer!

A vineyard in North Texas

1. Delaney Vineyards

Take a drive on Highway 121 in Grapevine and you are guaranteed to spot Delaney Vineyards. It is the beautiful French chateau surrounded by rows of vineyards right off the highway. Granted, you can hear the cars zooming by while in the vineyard, but don’t let that stop you from visiting Delaney Vineyards.

The owner, Jerry Delaney, fell in love with the architecture of the French chateaus while traveling and decided to fashion his tasting room after an 18th-century French chateau. The incredible wooden doors have welcomed visitors since 1996.

The majority of the wine served at Delaney is estate-grown either on the 10 acres in Grapevine or the company’s larger property in West Texas, Lamesa Estate Vineyards. You can participate in a wine tasting to see which of their red and white wines you like best.

During your visit, be sure to try the Texas claret wine which is a mix of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc grapes. The fruitiness and peppery finish make this a great wine to pair with food.

In addition to its wine-tasting room, Delaney Vineyard is also a premier venue for special events. Offering only one event per day, you are guaranteed to have a dedicated space for your wedding or party.

For operating hours and more information, visit the Delaney Vineyard website .

2. Times Ten Cellars

If you are looking for the perfect place for a date night in Dallas, then look no further than Times Ten Cellars on Prospect Avenue. This Dallas winery has been a neighborhood staple for over 15 years and is the go-to wine bar in the area.

Since Times Ten Cellars is a working winery, you can take a tour of the winery before settling in to enjoy your favorite wine. Their numerous rooms and patio allow for comfortable seating and a fun, laid-back atmosphere for your wine experience.

The wine at Times Ten Cellars is produced from grapes sourced from both Texas and California, ensuring they serve unique wines that are easy to drink. If you aren’t sure where to start, then enjoy one of their tasting flights that serve up red, white, or sweet varieties. They have a delicious pinot noir, a zesty tempranillo, and a fabulous cabernet sauvignon.

In addition to the wines offered at Times Ten Cellars, guests can also enjoy specialty wines and beverages. These offerings include ciders from a local brewery, prosecco, and ports.

For more information, please visit the Times Ten Cellars website .

Lost Oak Winery in Texas

3. Lost Oak Winery

Head about 45-minutes southwest of Dallas to the small North Texas town of Burleson, and you will find Lost Oak Winery. Situated on 52 acres, Lost Oak is more than just a winery, it is a true wine experience. Lost Oak Winery prides itself on being one of the family-friendly wineries in North Texas. This is evident when you visit and enjoy the hiking and biking trails, multiple vineyards, event venue, and fabulous wine-tasting room.

Visitors can take a winery tour to learn all about growing Texas grapes and the production of award-winning wines before trying some of the great wines for themselves. Whether you are choosing a guided tasting in the tasting room, or are going to enjoy your wine out on the patio, you will feel right at home at this Dallas winery.

The high-quality wines produced at Lost Oak Winery range from semi-sweet wines to dry red wines. If you aren’t sure what wine you would like, then be sure to do a tasting at Lost Oak so that you can experience a little of everything. Their popular sweet wines include Orange Muscat and Dolce Rouge. Their popular dry wines include a delicious Montepulciano and a variety of white wines.

I love visiting Lost Oak Winery during its special events. Offering up everything from “Girls’ Night Out” to concerts on the lawn, there seems to always be something going on at Lost Oak. Their fun events are the perfect time to meet up with a group of friends, drink wine, and laugh the night away.

For operating hours and a calendar of events, please visit the Lost Oak Winery website .

4. Arché Winery

Arche Winery is set in the beautiful rolling hills of the Red River Valley, about 1.5 hours north of Dallas. With a focus on Texas grapes, Arche Winery is a unique Texas winery as it is one of the few wineries in the state to grow chardonnay grapes. Combine that with their focus on other French varieties, including syrah and Roussanne, and you know that you are going to be enjoying some good wine!

The winemaker at Arche Winery prides himself on producing high-quality wines that are reminiscent of the wine produced in France. The winemaker uses its Texas grapes to replicate wines produced in the Rhone region of France. They even age their wines in French Oak to ensure the best quality possible. If you are interested in learning more about the winemaking process at Arche, then be sure to sign up for a winery tour during your visit.

Their wine-tasting room is set in the middle of the vineyards so guests are treated to beautiful views as they enjoy their wine. You can do a wine tasting and enjoy four different wines to determine your favorite. Some of my favorite wines at Arche are the chardonnay, Mourvedre, syrah, and the yellow rosé.

Please visit Arche Winery for more information including operating hours and tasting prices.

4R Ranch Winery in Texas

5. 4R Ranch Vineyards And Winery

If you are looking for a North Texas winery that serves up delicious wines while offering a fabulous view, then consider visiting 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery in Muenster, Texas. Honestly, I couldn’t believe the view the first time I visited!

Setting high atop a hill overlooking valleys covered in trees and vineyards, one might think they are in Napa Valley when they visit this beautiful North Texas winery. The winery, which is powered by, “the sun, earth, and wind,” according to their website , offers up the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a glass of wine.

Cozy up to the wine bar inside of the Wind Shed Tasting Room to taste some of the delicious wines produced by 4R Ranch. Of course, like most wineries, you can do a traditional tasting, but if you want a unique experience, why not try one of the barrel tastings offered by 4R? This one-hour tour allows you to learn more about the winemaking process and sample four wines straight from the barrel.

In addition to fabulous, award-winning wines, 4R Ranch also offers guests the opportunity to stay on the ranch. You can rent out the 4R Gasthaus, which is a three-bedroom, two-bath house located on the property. In addition to the guest house, there are also campsites available for rent. During your stay, enjoy a bottle of wine after you finish riding the 9 miles of mountain biking trails on the property.

My 4R Ranch recommendations include the viognier, the rosé, and Nectar, their award-winning sweet white wine.

6. Eden Hill Winery And Vineyard

Dallas farmers market and celina.

Eden Hill Winery & Vineyard is an award-winning winery producing Texas wines from Texas grapes. This family-owned winery prides itself in providing high-quality wines in a sophisticated, yet comfortable atmosphere.

The Celina, Texas location of Eden Hill provides visitors with the opportunity to tour their Eden Hill Estate. The estate, which consists of a 10-acre estate, tempranillo vineyard, cellar bar, and patio, is the perfect place to enjoy wine while relaxing in the Texas countryside.

In addition to the vineyard in Celina, Eden Hill also has a wine-tasting room in the Dallas Farmers Market in Downtown Dallas. Here you can enjoy their delicious wines paired with a tasty dish like their artichoke dip and chips or a luscious chocolate mousse.

My recommendations from Eden Hill Winery include the Montepulciano, the Garden Red, and the Temptation sparkling wine.

Blue Ostrich Winery in Texas

7. Blue Ostrich Winery And Vineyard

What started as a premier ostrich breeding and ranching facility has now become one of the premier wineries near Dallas, Texas, Blue Ostrich Winery & Vineyard. Don’t worry though, if it is the ostrich you are looking for, there are still a few on-site that serve as the winery’s mascots.

The vineyards surrounding the tasting room produce tempranillo, viognier, and cabernet grapes, all yielding some delicious Texas wines. If you are unsure what type of wine you want to purchase, then choose from one of their three tasting options — the Blue Ostrich (all white), the Red Ostrich (all red), or the Black Ostrich (all sweet).

In addition to wines, the Blue Ostrich Winery also serves up some light food options including hummus, a smoked salmon plate, nuts, chocolates, and more. The family-owned and operated business prides itself on providing high-quality wine and a fabulous guest experience. To make the most of this, grab a bottle of your favorite wine and head out to their wonderful patio to enjoy views of the vineyards, and, if you’re lucky, some live music!

Visit their website for more information.

Pro Tip: Many of the wineries on our list are part of the North Texas Wine Country. For a fabulous and fun experience, take part in one of their wine trails to experience the wineries and enjoy a tasting for a discounted price. You can find more information here .

Restaurant industry stars have been nominated for awards in 10 categories , spotlighted in a special editorial series . We've already celebrated candidates for Rising Star Chef , Pastry Chef , Neighborhood Restaurant , Patios , Bars , and Bartender of the Year, as voted by our panel of esteemed judges.

There is also our Best New Restaurants category, the only one where the winner gets decided not by judges but instead by readers, in a bracket-style tournament where nominees go head to head. Voting is still open at this link .

One winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on May 16 at the Fashion Industry Gallery, where we'll toast the nominees while indulging in bites and sips. Tickets are on sale now.

This entry pays tribute to the top wine programs in town: everything from casual wine bars to shops with unique selections to acclaimed restaurants with stellar selections.

Here are our nominees for 2024 Wine Program of the Year:

Fig & Favor Grab-and-go market from the Harwood Hospitality Group features wines from top producers and emerging winemakers. They have labels you don’t find at other retailers, including wines generally available only at restaurants, some so small they don’t even have bar codes. You can get a generous 5-ounce glass of their house brand for $5 on-site, and they run a wine club with two levels ($125 or $250).

Leela's Wine Bar Low key neighborhood wine and pizza spot with eco-friendly wines on tap debuted in 2018 on Greenville Avenue and has since spun off locations in Uptown and Trophy Club. Their wine selection is compact and user-friendly, with a quirky selection of about two dozen wines that check off each varietal: chardonnay, malbec, zinfandel, and pinot noir. Keeping the user-friendly theme, they offer every bottle in 6-ounce pours, 9-ounce pours, or the whole bottle.

Locals / Farmers Branch Wine shop-cocktail lounge hybrid in Farmers Branch houses Locals Craft Beer & Fine Wine, a retail market with 250 wines, including selections from small and/or natural vineyards. Sommelier Britt Wallace, who spent several years as wine buyer for a a Texas grocery chain, emphasizes fun and accessibility, and that can be seen in the helpful categories they offer, such as price and wine style. They also have a wine club with quarterly shipments.

Mansion on Turtle Creek Like the iconic Turtle Creek hotel in which it resides, the Mansion on Turtle Creek has won innumerable awards for its service, food, and wine, most recently winning an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine in 2023. Its massive wine cellar houses hundreds of selections, including treasures from Bordeaux and Burgundy - currently overseen by capable and highly personable wine director and advanced sommelier Brian Huynh.

Neighborhood Cellar Bishop Arts wine shop and wine bar founded by sommelier Ian Montgomery and his wife Lindsey offers wine by the glass, flights, tastings, charcuterie, and snacks, plus a wine club and natural wines. Prices are about average, but you get a discount if you join their ultra-flexible wine club. They have bites and flights, bring in winemakers, and host generous tastings every month or so - really putting the "neighborhood" in Neighborhood Cellar.

Nick & Sam's Dallas steakhouse, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, features a classic steakhouse wine cabinet with more than 500 labels, including exclusives, world-famous options, and all the old world Cabs you'd ever want to pair with your steak. The thing here is their by-the-glass list, because it offers a relatively affordable way to sample those labels which you could probably not buy or afford by the bottle.

Postino Addison Sophisticated wine bar founded in Phoenix made its DFW debut in 2021, and currently has locations in Addison and Southlake. In addition to a menu of bites and shareable dishes, they have a small but respectable list of about 30 options, each available not only by the bottle but also by the glass, dominated by Postino private labels such as Perfekt Riesling, Nevermind rose, and Stagedive pinot noir, priced from $11 to $14.

Sister As part of Duro Hospitality (The Charles, El Carlos), it's a given that this Italian-inspired trattoria on Greenville Avenue is going to have exemplary food, service, atmosphere — and wine. The list is compact, but every bottle counts, with hard-to-come-by treasures, most from Italy, one or two from California, that they weave in and out, like the Cesarini Brut Rose, a refined sparkler from northeast Italy, or the Fattoria Montellori Moro, a complex red blend from Tuscany. It would be silly to go to Sister and not eat, but the wine is really good enough to just go and drink.

Sixty Vines Wine-obsessed restaurant with two locations (Uptown and Plano) from the FB Society restaurant group is a return nominee, and justly so. They feature a collection of 60 wines on tap, an approach that is both user-friendly and eco-friendly, which you can order in different sizes, from a 2.5-ounce sip to a 5-ounce mid-size to an 8-ounce big pour, plus thematic flights that let you sample and compare.

Via Triozzi The wine list at this small Italian restaurant on Greenville Avenue is notable for its single-minded focus on Italian wines: spumanti, bianchi, rossi, all from Italy, to match the cuisine. Some such as the Barbera Del Monferrato cantine valpane, a red from the Piedmont region, are natural wines, grown organically and fermented without additives. Their list includes a dozen wines by the glass, priced from $12 to $21.

Kolache news, houston-based kolache factory  ready to unleash kolaches on mckinney.

McKinney is getting kolaches, via Kolache Factory , the Houston-based chain, which is opening a location in a new center at 6451 W University Dr.

According to a release, it'll open in October.

Kolache Factory was founded in 1982 in Houston and is privately owned and operated and headquartered in Katy. There are 48 locations in Texas including Houston and Austin, plus outside Texas such as Omaha, Kansas City, Indianapolis, and St. Louis.

The McKinney location is from a new franchise owner, Emily Chen, a mortgage broker who lives in Parker near South Fork Ranch.

Chen’s introduction to kolaches came through her husband, Stan, whose grandmother was Ukrainian. Kolaches originated in eastern Europe and were popularized in Texas when Czech immigrants came over in the 1850s.

“When I first tasted a kolache, I knew I had to bring this experience closer to home,” Emily says. “This is a great on-the-go meal I give my boys before they head off to swimming or other activities. I know they are getting protein and carbs for energy.” Hmm kolaches have protein and carbs, who knew.

Kolache Factory's menu includes sweet options such as apple, blueberry, cream cheese, cherry, lemon, peach, and strawberry. Savory options include bacon and cheddar, brisket, chicken enchilada with cheese, "spinach dip," ham and Swiss, Italian chicken, jalapeno and cheddar, pepperoni pizza, Philly cheesesteak, sausage and gravy, sausage and cheese, and sausage with jalapeno and cheese.

There's a menu of egg kolaches filled with egg and cheese, combined with various meats such as bacon, ham, and sausage, as well as one with egg, potato, and cheese. Their No. 1 seller in the egg category is the Ranchero, with scrambled eggs, ham, picante sauce, jalapenos, and cheese.

They have Polish sausage; cinnamon rolls; muffins; croissants; and "strudel niks," with choice of apple or black forest filling.

McKinney will be the fifth store to open in Dallas-Fort Worth. There are currently locations in Plano, Frisco, Murphy, and Richardson, which opened in 2018.

“Kolache Factory is all about bringing unique flavors and a family-friendly dining experience to every neighborhood,” said Aaron Nielsen, Director of Franchise Development at Kolache Factory. “We are excited to grow in the DFW area and see Emily bring her business acumen and passion for our brand to McKinney, a city known for its vibrant and growing family-centric community.”
