MORE:

ALEJANDRO FERNÁNDEZ rose to global fame with his unique take on Mexican music. He is known for his records that speak of hard emotional truths. Throughout his career Alejandro has surprised his fanbase with his musical versatility in different genres. He is a 2x Latin GRAMMY winner and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, amongst other noteworthy recognitions. FERNÁNDEZ kicked off 2023 with the release of “Inexperto En Olvidarte,” the first single from his upcoming album that fans have been eagerly awaiting. The single was an instant classic due to its heart-wrenching lyrics reaching #1 on Monitor Latino in México and Colombia and currently climbing US Radio charts.

Alejandro’s previous SOLD OUT US TOUR “Hecho en México” wrapped in October 2021. His most successful US tour to date, came on the heels of his hugely successful album of the same name which garnered him 4 number-one singles on US Latin radio charts.

Alejandro has a long history of helping others through his music and shows. In 2020, he launched (along with a coalition of artists) the “Vota Por Nosotros” (Vote For Us) get-out-the-vote campaign, encouraging Latino voters to vote on behalf of our entire community in the November 3rd elections. In accepting his Latin GRAMMY that same year, Alejandro dedicated the award to the victims of the recent hurricanes in southern Mexico donating MXN $1,000,000.00 to the Mexican Red Cross to aid with the relief efforts.

Most recently Alejandro joined Mana’s Fher Olvera as the face of the “We Are Home” campaign calling for a fair and dignified immigration policy for the millions of Latino immigrants living in the US and again with Dr. Anthony Fauci in a call for the US Latino population to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. His 2021 US tour raised over $100,000 for “Families Belong Together” to unite immigrant parents and children separated at the US border.

Alejandro Fernández announces Amor y Patria US tour, dedicates it to his late father Vicente

alejandro fernandez tour 2023

For Alejandro Fernández , a Mexican music icon and son of the late Vicente "Chente" Fernández , it's "never going to be easy" getting up on stage and performing after the death of his father in 2021 .

"It's going to be on your mind your whole life," Fernández, 51, says in an interview conducted in Spanish. "I'm always going to miss him … the important thing is trying to overcome this and being able to dedicate my shows to my father."

That's what Fernández is setting out to do this fall.

In an exclusive interview with USA TODAY, Fernández revealed he is embarking on a new North American tour, his first in the U.S. since Vicente's death. The 21-date Amor Y Patria tour kicks off Sept. 8 in Sacramento, California, at the Golden 1 Center   and will continue with shows in major cities including Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, New York and Las Vegas. The tour will conclude in Miami on Oct. 22.

Fans can expect "something special" from the Amor Y Patria tour, the singer says, which will celebrate Mexican music and his love for his native country.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time on Ticketmaster.com.

Ranchera royalty: Ángela Aguilar is following in her father Pepe's footsteps, but could also be the genre's future

Fernández on touring with son Alex, grieving father Vicente

Fernández's Amor Y Patria will also be a family affair.

The singer, who first performed with his father in 1976 when he was about 5 years old , will continue the father-son tradition with his 29-year-old son, singer Alex Fernández, who will join him onstage for the majority of the tour.

"I'm so proud of him," he says. "I did the same with my father and he supported me a lot."

Fernández says performing with his father Vicente, known as "El Rey de la Música Ranchera" ("The King of Mexican Music"), opened many doors for him. He never took it for granted because he "knew that spotlight was super important."

In 2020, Alejandro and Vicente recorded their second duet "Mentí,"  featured in Alejandro's sixteenth studio album. The first song they ever recorded was "Qué Pregunta Muchacho,"  released in 1992.

"I tried to make the best of every time I performed with my father," Fernández adds.

Since his father's death at 81 after suffering a fall that caused a spinal cord injury, performing without Vicente is no easy feat. The singer  often breaks down in tears as he performs renditions of his father's most popular hits including "Volver, Volver," "Las Llaves de Mi Alma" and "Por Tu Maldito Amor."

Fernández wrapped a sold-out U.S. for his "Hecho En Mexico" album in October 2021 before his father died. Recently, he has continued to perform in Mexico for the Latin American leg of that tour .

"I had to pick myself up and pick up all the pieces when everything happened with my father," he adds. "Not only me, but my family, too, and returning to the stage was very difficult."

But now, he has his son Alex as his support system onstage . "I'm just happy to be able to repeat this (tradition) with my son, guiding him from the other side," he says.

Fernández reminisces on father Vicente's career highlights

The singer says he plans a special show in Mexico City this spring at the historic Plaza de toros México, the world's largest bullring, to pay tribute to one of his father's most iconic performances.

In 1984, Vicente took the stage at the same venue and Fernández says "it was one of the performances that catapulted him to international stardom."

"It was a whole experience," he says, adding that his father had the odds stacked against him that day amid rocky relationships with the media and unforeseen weather circumstances. "It rained so hard that day, it seemed as though the sky was going to fall."

Ultimately, it stopped raining an hour before his father was set to perform and he sold out the 41,262-seat venue. "Everything turned out spectacular," he says. "It’s been one of the most iconic performances of his career and so in honor of the year anniversary of his death, we want to repeat that night."

Fernández dishes on new album

Fernández kicked off 2023 by releasing a new single "Inexperto en Olvidarte ," and promises fans they can expect a new album soon.

"It's going to be a busy year, we're going to be in the studio a lot to keep churning out new music," he says, adding fans should tune in to his social media platforms – and for old school fans, the radio – for new singles ahead of the album's release.

Alejandro Fernandez

Mexican superstar Alejandro Fernández announced Tuesday (Feb. 14) his 21-date Amor Y Patria Tour, which is set to kick off Sept. 8 in Sacramento, Calif. The 2023 stint will follow the prolific touring act’s 2021 Hecho En México trek, which marked his grand return to live shows after the pandemic.

All the Latin U.S. Tours Announced for 2023 (Updating)

Trending on billboard.

“Each show is different, each audience is different, and the reactions are different,” Fernández says about his love for touring. “I always do my job and homework whenever I visit a new city or country. I want to know which songs they are listening to the most in that specific area. I also really like to know the culture and the food. Normally, if I have time and if I go with my girlfriend, I give myself time to get to see the country, to go out to eat at different places,” he adds.

The ranchera singer is also set to release new music and will focus more on releasing singles instead of albums. “We’re going to work a little differently,” he explains. “Physical albums are challenging to sell, and more and more people consume digital. Everyone is adjusting to do more of that format.”

“Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella”

In ranchera music, this song was my first hit that I had internationally and proudly, it was with Mexican music.

“Caballero”

This is the song we were opening with for our “Hecho En Mexico” tour and still, it is one of the most popular songs on streaming platforms.

“Me Dediqué a Perderte”

This song is one that fans always sing along to at the top of their lungs at my concerts.

“Inexperto en Olvidarte”

This is my most recent single and it’s had an incredible response so it’ll be a must on the set list.

“Te Olvidé”

This one is not a love song, but it is very good. It’s a heartbreak song, and well, those who are not in love can also have something to listen to.

See the complete list of dates for Amor Y Patria below. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 17 at 10am on  Ticketmaster.com .

Wow such an amazing performer!! We were captivated by his songs and performance. His voice is beautiful and passionate. I am sure his father, Vicente Fernández, is very proud. I took my mom for her birthday and she told me over and over this was the best concert she has been to in a long time. I agree too! Alejandro’s tribute to his father by singing his fathers songs was touching as it was admirable. We will definitely see him in concert again.

I adore Alejandro Fernandez! so when I saw that Los Tigres del Norte, were also coming, I went ahead and bought the tickets,I thought they would sing a few songs, then Alejandro.

I was wrong! The show was mostly them singing.Nothing against them singing, but I would not pay that amount of money to see them. It really ruined the concert for me.

I will never buy another ticket if he or another one of my favorites singers have someone else...they should have their own concert.

by the way, the people were constantly getting up to dance, go and buy beer , bathroom and to buy more beer....the whole show.We had isle seats , so could not see anything. It was really a horrible experience. And we waited so long to see Alejandro.

It was a special night for Yandel who received one of the three special awards of the night. The Puerto Rican hitmaker was honored with the Latin AMA Pioneer award. In his speech, he thanked “TK.” The other two special awards went to Ricardo Montaner and Banda MS, who each took home a Latin AMA Legacy award.

The first award of the night went to Peso Pluma, who won best regional Mexican album for his history-making set Génesis. “I just want to thank you for all the love you have shown corridos, the love you’ve shown me,” the Mexican star said in his speech. “Thanks to those who make this possible, especially to you my fans because you have made this wave of corridos even bigger.”

Just a few awards were handed out throughout the three-hour show, which was instead stacked with back-to-back performances. Those that did go up to pick up awards included Feid, who picked up streaming artist of the year, and Peso returned with Eslabon Armado for best collaboration in regional Mexican (“Ella Baila Sola”). Carin León also took the stage not only to premiere his song “Cuando La Vida Sea Trago,” he also went up to receive best artist – regional Mexican.

And Carin León performed for the first time “Cuando La Vida Sea Trago.” Country singer Jennifer Nettles joined singer-songwriter Noel Schajris for the world premiere of “Love’s Still Here” from her upcoming bilingual album.

Karol G and Feid took home the most awards during the 2024 Latin American Music Awards in Las Vegas on Thursday night.

Though Karol didn’t attend the ceremony in person, she won six awards, including artist of the year and album of the year for her 2023 record “Mañana Será Bonito.” The album won album of the year at the Latin Grammys and was the urban album of the year at the Anglo Grammys. Karol also won song of the year for her anthemic “TQG,” a song she shares with Shakira.

The night was jam packed with performances and single premieres , including “Ale Ale,” a new single off Marc Anthony’s new LP “Muevense.” Thalia, who delivered an eye-popping performance of her own, hosted the evening along with presenter Alejandra Espinoza, and singer-songwriter and television personality Carlos Ponce.
