February is a great month to travel. Especially for couples in northern climates, it's a chance to get away from winter and find a nice beach where the weather is hot!

Here's ERV's choices for February 2024 romantic destinations, including Valentines Day getaways, and a video of trips you can take in February along with related travel information like high temps, hours of sunshine, and so forth. Plus: we just had to list a destination that, while certainly not warm, is one of the best places in February to really experience a romantic winter getaway.

Punta Cana DR in February

• Punta Cana All-Inclusive February Deals  - Sick and tired of winter? One of the best hot vacation spots in February is the Dominican Republic. Hurricane season is over, it's convenient (just a few hours away by air from most points in the USA), and reliably warm. Despite being high-season, many romantic resorts in the Punta Cana can still be affordable, and there are plenty of  all inclusive February vacation deals  being offered.

Wondering where the weather is hot in February? (and where it's not?) Here's a quick look at what the weather is like in several destinations:

• Las Vegas - spring is just around the corner, with average daytime high of about 63 F.
• Orlando - usually clear, with high temperatures of about 73 F.
• New Orleans - warm highs of 64 F for Mardi Gras month, some fog.
• Hawaii - for a guaranteed warm destination in February, Hawaii's a good choice. Sunny with high temps of about 78 F.
• Dallas TX - daytime highs are a pleasant 61 F, with a daily average of about 6 hrs of sunshine. 
• San Francisco - stable weather, cooler days with some clouds and highs of about 60 F.
• Seattle - cool, average highs of 51 F with light rain on many days.

When I stumbled on the website for Little Palm Island in the Florida Keys, I thought I hit the jackpot with everything that I wanted for our anniversary trip. A private island, our own tropical villa, and the most romantic atmosphere I can imagine within the continental United States. And then I looked at the price and realized I actually needed to hit the jackpot, or the lottery, to make even a splurge trip here a reality.

But if you are ready to spend, it is no surprise that Little Palm Island was included in the top resorts in the United States (and the World) by the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

2. Amangiri, Canyon Point, Utah

Ever since spying the Amangiri hotel in a food magazine, my husband has been angling for a romantic getaway to this remote portion of Utah’s red rock country. Covering 600 acres of the vast and majestic Colorado Plateau, the Amangiri offers a desert landscape of canyons, mesas, ridges, and gorges.

Guests can choose between the modernist suites of Amangiri and the tented pavilions of Camp Sarika. To gain an appreciation of the landscape, you can tour slot canyons with Navajo guides, or observe powerful storytelling sessions and ritual dances by the fire in Monument Valley Tribal Park. Adventurers can also go canyoning, climbing, hiking, horseback riding, or enjoy water sports on Lake Powell. This is the perfect choice for those that enjoy spending time in nature and are active adventurers.

The hotel’s interiors reflect the area’s maritime history, with plenty of cozy nooks and crannies to snuggle with your significant other.

5. Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur, California

My friend and luxury travel advisor Kristi Marcelle recommends the Post Ranch Inn for an adults-only romantic getaway near San Francisco. The Chanler has been on our wishlist for a romantic getaway in Newport since we first moved here and sampled the chef’s tasting menu at the hotel’s gourmet restaurant.

This Forbes Four-Star Hotel offers a luxury experience reminiscent of the Gilded Age. Stroll through the manicured gardens while you take in breathtaking ocean vistas, walk along the three-mile Cliff Walk, enjoy a gourmet meal, and sip an after-dinner drink at the fire pit and star gaze.

11. Inn at Newport Ranch, Fort Bragg, California

Located just 30 minutes from Mendocino on the Northern California Coast, the Inn at Newport Ranch is a local secret that luxury travel advisor Kristi Marcelle first clued me into and is perfect for a California romantic getaway .

Taking a trip in February has many benefits, including fewer crowds, better deals, and atmospheric scenery that often verges on the truly spectacular!

You can either embrace the cold and have as much fun as possible in the snowy landscapes or head to states where you’re guaranteed warmer weather. From my many trips, here are my favorite incredible places to visit this month…

1. Big Sky, Montana

I personally think that Big Sky, Montana, is the perfect winter destination, given the fantastic snowfall (that falls in January and this month) and the abundance of winter activities it offers.

This month is an excellent time to visit Big Sky because snow levels provide great slopes for skiing and snowboarding. I highly recommend participating in all winter activities, including sledging, snowmobiling, snow-go bike rides, ice trekking, and cross-country skiing.

I love the fun and lively après ski scene here, and I love that there are loads of other indoor activities, such as escape rooms. While here, I would also suggest visiting the famous Yellowstone National Park, just an hour’s drive away!

2. New Orleans, Louisiana

I personally think the best time to visit New Orleans is from this month to May when the weather is comfortably cool, and the celebrations are in full swing!  I love visiting this month because it hosts various events, festivals, and holidays—the vibe is electric!

Of course, the famous Mardi Gras festival typically falls during this month. I highly recommend participating in the celebrations and parades, as it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience! 

I would also suggest getting involved in the vibrant nightlife, live music scene, and spicy, singular cuisine from its history of French, African, and American cultures.

Some interesting sights that I would recommend visiting include the French Quarter, the Garden District, and the National WWII Museum .

3. Mendocino, Northern California

With sunshine and scenic views all year round, the Mendocino Coast is a beautiful destination at any time of the year.

However, I personally think this month is the ideal time to visit for those looking to get away from the cold, snowy winters and bask in the warm sun and fresh ocean breeze. Temperatures usually range from the low 40s to high 70s here.

I’m always enchanted by the picturesque landscapes, which feature stunning shorelines, magical sea caves, cliffside trails, and breathtaking beaches.

This coastal city has a delightful, quirky vibe and is a unique, lesser-known gem. It also offers lots of land and sea adventure activities.

I recommend exploring Mendocino Headlands State Park and Museum , Mendocino Art Center, Russian Gulch State Park, and my personal favorite, the quaint 1909 Point Cabrillo Light Station!

• Taking ride on one of the country’s best rail tours, The Skunk Train and admiring the most picturesque landscapes.
• Enjoying a hike along the Headlands State Park coast and catching some Insta-worthy shots.
• Strolling down Main Street and discovering several art galleries which have been collecting art since the 1960s.

4. San Antonio, Texas

I love this gem of a city in south-central Texas known for its rich colonial heritage. San Antonio’s sights include the Alamo, an 18th-century Spanish mission preserved as a Museum, the San Antonio River, and the miles-long River Walk.

I especially loved the promenade, which is filled with cafes, boutique hotels, restaurants, and shops.

This month is a great time to visit as many events occur, including the Bud Light Mardi Gras Festival & River Parade, the annual Cupid 5K Chase and their version of Mardi Gras! 

Texan summers are almost unbearable, with high humidity and temperatures exceeding 90F, so I think the fewer crowds and pleasant weather make this month a far better time to visit!

• Enjoying a wander along the River Walk, Paseo del Rio which is known as one of the city’s most significant attractions.
• Experiencing authentic country music at a live performance event.

5. Death Valley, California

Death Valley is a desert valley in eastern California at the edge of the Great Basin Desert. It is known to be one of the hottest places on Earth and is often compared with deserts in the Middle East and the Sahara.

As one of the hottest, driest, and lowest national parks and places in the world, Death Valley has unbearably blistering summer temperatures. So, I would suggest visiting in the winter instead, as it’s a safer time to visit!

This month’s temperatures are still hot, at 23 degrees, but they’re nowhere near the summer’s soaring and often risky temperatures.

The national park in the valley is known for its unique wildlife. I recommend spotting the desert bighorn sheep, lizards, and tiny pupfish, which live in pools that are saltier than seawater.

I’ve experienced breathtaking views by day and stargazing across this mesmerizing landscape by night—bliss!

• Taking a hike along Zabriskie Point Trail which led to an Instagrammable viewpoint overlooking the landscape.
• Taking binoculars and visiting the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes to experience the magical stargazing skies. 
• Exploring the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes which was an otherworldly experience!

6. Palm Springs, California

I honestly think this is the perfect place to escape cold winter weather, and I’m a big fan of this funky little city! Located 100 miles east of Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley region of the Sonoran Desert, the popular resort city is known for its clear blue skies, soft sunshine, natural hot springs, and luxurious amenities.

With gorgeous boutique hotels, fine dining restaurants, world-class golf courses, and amazing weather, it is no surprise that Palm Desert is a winter favorite pick, especially among celebrities!

Summertime can get extremely hot, so this month is a great time to visit because temperatures are not too hot, at around 80F, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, sunbathing, and spa pampering.

My favorite highlights…

• Taking a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the world’s largest rotating tram car – the views were incredible! 
• Taking tours around some of the famous resident’s houses, such as Elvis’s Honeymoon Hideaway, Marilyn Monroe’s House, and Dean Martin’s Home.
• Taking a trip to the Coachella Valley Certified Farmers Markets, to purchase locally-grown produce.
• Relaxing at the incredible Spa La Quinta.

7. Vail Ski Resort, Colorado

Located near Vail in Eagle County, Vail Ski Resort is a spectacular ski resort known for its quality of snow and slopes. Vail’s varied landscape offers over 5000 acres of skiable area.

Besides skiing and winter sports opportunities, Vail offers pristine conditions with the perfect combination of over 300 days of sunshine and over 370 inches of snow each year.

With plenty of fresh powder and tons of accessible terrain, I personally think this month is prime time to visit Colorado, especially the ski resort of Vail.

In addition to on-slope action, I suggest discovering the incredible gourmet restaurants, local pubs, high-class entertainment, shopping, and a lively après scene.

The lovely Vail Village, designed with cobblestone streets and alpine-inspired architecture, is picturesque!

• Going on beginner snowboarding lessons, it’s not as easy as it looks!

8. The Keys, Florida

The tropical islands of Florida Keys are situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 100 miles south of Florida.

These fabulous islands are known for their relaxing atmosphere, seaside sunshine, and gorgeous scenery. I recommend boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and scuba diving to make the most of this beautiful area.

Other attractions include art galleries, local boutiques, and fresh seafood. The southernmost city of Key West is famous for its bustling bars, Mallory Square’s nightly Sunset Celebration, and the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum ! 

I personally think this month is a great time to visit, with winter crowds tapering off, hotel prices becoming reasonable in Key Largo and Key West, and the weather conditions being optimal in the 70s and 80s.

9. Leavenworth, Washington

Tucked in the Cascade Mountains of Washington, 100 miles east of Seattle, is beautiful Leavenworth. I think it’s a charming gem of a place with full-on Bavarian vibes, from architecture and street names to seasonal festivals and tourist attractions.

This month, there is a packed calendar of activities, including wine tasting, snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledging, live music events, and other typical winter activities.

With beautiful architecture, cozy cafes, and gourmet restaurants, I think Leavenworth is the perfect winter escape that takes you right to the heart of Europe!

• Going snowshoeing on the Icicle Gorge Nature Loop trail.
• Indulging in a tasty fondue at the popular Pavz Café Bistro.

10. Hot Springs, North Carolina

Nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina, along the banks of Spring Creek and the French Broad River, I love this gem of a city rich in history and culture.

Only a short distance from Asheville, this charming town is the intersection along the historic Appalachian Trail. Hot Springs is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts as the scenic Pisgah National Forest surrounds it.

I highly recommend exploring the various hiking paths, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, or visiting Rich Mountain Lookout Tower.

However, as the name suggests, Hot Spring is best known for its hot mineral springs. Though the hot mineral springs are open year-round, the experience of soaking in hot water at temperatures of 102F in cold climates is truly unique, and I would highly recommend it!

I personally think is the perfect destination for anyone interested in outdoor adventure, healing, relaxation, or even a romantic getaway!

My highlights

• Relaxing in the famous hot mineral waters at Hot Springs Resort & Spa.
• Tasting hearty cuisine at the Smokey Mountain Diner.
• For those who like to party, have a glass of wine or craft beer at one of the live entertainment events.

11. Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada

Valley of Fire State Park is known for its 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops tucked in grey and tan limestone.

My favorite natural attractions include the Rainbow Vista, Pink Canyon, Fire Wave, White Domes, Seven Sisters, Fire Cave, and Beehives Cave, and they are all jaw-dropping! 

This historic park houses ancient petrified trees and petroglyphs that date back more than 2,000 years. Walking through this park is truly like walking through history!

Summers in the Nevada region can be extremely hot and harsh, so in my opinion, this is a great month to visit as temperatures are far more pleasant.

You can go hiking or trekking, but personally I would just recommend exploring and taking in the incredible scenery!

• Taking a hike on the Rainbow Vista trail to admire an Insta-worthy panoramic view overlooking the park.
• Exploring Pink Canyon, known for being one of the most stunning places in the valley.
• Driving through the valley to discover the magnificent and natural landscapes.

12. Alta, Utah

Located in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah in Salt Lake County, Alta is a fantastic ski area known for its wide array of slopes. I’m a huge fan of this snowy winter paradise! 

Alta averages 550 inches of snow each year, and its soft snow slopes offer incredible skiing opportunities for every level of skier.

I love the stunning snow-covered scenery and fresh powder snow terrain. It’s best visited during the peak winter months when there is plenty of snowfall, and the snow is soft and powdery!

• Visiting the magical and magnificent frozen sculptures of the Ice Castles 
• Hiring a fat bike and taking the winter trail around Park City.
• Enjoying a hot chocolate with a shot of gingerbread flavor at Hatch Family Chocolates. 

13. Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming 

One of the most celebrated national parks in the country, Yellowstone is filled with picturesque natural beauty and exceptionally diverse wildlife.

Though summers are the most popular, I love visiting in the winter as it offers a unique experience and pristine views of white frosted trees.

Skis, snowshoes, snow coaches, and snowmobiles are the main modes of transportation as roads close, rivers and lakes freeze, and winter storms blanket the park with fluffy, white snow.

I love that outdoor activity options are endless. Yellowstone offers miles of trails that lead past frosty woods, steaming hot springs, and snow-covered meadows that can be explored on skis or snowshoes.

You’ll find idyllic scenery, much fewer crowds, and better chances of spotting iconic animals that tend to move to lower elevations in cooler temperatures.

At Mammoth Hot Springs, I recommend spotting bull elks and bison covered in snow, which is quite a sight! Views of the steam from the geyser contrast against the snow, and the blue skies are also mesmerizing.

• Going on a snowmobile-guided tour for an experience of a lifetime in the winter wonderland.
• Exploring the park by cross-country skiing on the perfectly groomed trails.
• Discovering the picturesque scenery on a snow coach tour, where I had several stops to take photos.

14. Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona

Petrified Forest National Park, in northeastern Arizona, is home to the beautiful world-renowned Rainbow Forest.

The Rainbow Forest is filled with colorful petrified wood and logs and offers stunning views. I personally think it’s one of the most Instagrammable spots in the country.

I suggest visiting the Rainbow Forest Museum, which displays exquisite palaeontology exhibits, Newspaper Rock’s petroglyphs, and the ruined village of Puerco Pueblo.

The park also contains the 1930s Painted Desert Inn, a museum with Hopi murals. There are various hiking and trekking trails on which you can find fossils, wildlife, and wildflowers.

This month at Petrified Forest National Park is very tranquil, with fewer crowds than in the summer.

• Checking out Rainbow Forest Museum at the visitor center and seeing dinosaur skeletons.
• Walking the park’s most stunning hikes, Blue Mesa, and discovering the coloured Badlands hills.
• Strolling along the short Crystal Forest loop and admiring the beautiful wood log deposits.

15. Kirkwood, California

Kirkwood Resort is a wonderful ski resort that receives one of the highest snowfalls in the world. It offers an extensive selection of terrain and several winter sports at affordable prices.

I personally think this month is the perfect time to enjoy Kirkwood and its snow-covered surroundings. Kirkwood combines the conveniences of a destination resort with the laid-back atmosphere of a day hill.

The quaint village is home to many eateries, bars, and other shops, which I’d recommend leisurely exploring.

• Watching the snowboarders do incredible tricks at the quarterpipe. 
• Going cross-country skiing surrounded by stunning views of the mountains.

16. San Diego, California

I think San Diego is an excellent destination for this month because it offers a great escape from cold, dreary weather.

But San Diego offers more than pleasant temperatures and clear skies in the winter. It has stunning sandy beaches, ocean-side activities, and family-friendly parks.

To make the most of this incredible city, I highly recommend participating in swimming, surfing, kayaking, and bodyboarding activities so you can live like a local (a very fit one)! 

San Diego offers pleasant all-round weather with sunshine and soft ocean winds. Average winter temperatures range from the mid-60s to 70s Fahrenheit, making it ideal for more than seaside activities.

This month, you’ll also find much better deals on hotels and restaurants as it’s away from the peak season.

Other sights I would suggest visiting include the Immense Balboa Park, Japanese Botanical Gardens , Old Town San Diego, art galleries, museums, and gardens.

17. Magic Mountain Ski Resort, Vermont

Located in southern Vermont, New England, Magic Mountain is a ski resort on Glebe Mountain with a 1,500-foot vertical drop.

This true skiing treasure has steep, narrow trails, glade skiing, and affordable prices. I love that the no-frills experience keeps the focus on the activities and the prices low! 

Snowshoeing is another popular activity in this scenic region, and I would also recommend it if you take enough precautions. With uncrowded slopes and fresh snow tracks that often last days, this is the place to ski!

The region is also very scenic, with gorgeous views of the Green Mountains. And when it snows, Magic looks magical, I promise!

• Skiing the perfect pistes. 
• Enjoying food and drinks at the popular Black Line Tavern.

18. Providence Canyon, Georgia

Providence Canyon, a 1,000-acre Georgia state park, is often called the “Little Grand Canyon”. It is considered one of Georgia’s Seven Natural Wonders, and I love this surreal beauty spot!

The park is below sea level with 16 different canyons, exposing 43 different shades of soil ranging from light orange, salmon, and red to white, purple, and pink.

I personally think the magnificent colors make this one of the most beautiful hikes in Georgia . The trails along the canyon offer striking views and are also a great place to watch a glorious sunset.

I would also recommend exploring the nearby attractions, including Amicalola Falls and Tallulah Gorge.

• Staying over at a campsite located along the Providence Canyon backcountry trail.
• Visiting the colorful rock formations known as Little Grand Canyon.

19. St Augustine, Florida

Filled with marvelous beaches, St. Augustine makes an amazing destination all year round. Winter is especially great because while the rest of the country deals with harsh cold temperatures and snow, St. Augustine is reveling in the sun! 

During this month, temperatures are pleasant, fluctuating between 40 and 70F. Crowds are less, and you can often find many off-peak season deals in the city’s best hotels.

I recommend visiting the St. Augustine Fountain of Youth, the Spanish masonry fort of Castillo San Marcos National Monument, and the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum .

I would also suggest going on the spooky but interesting ghost tour, taking advantage of the golf courses, and exploring the wonderful San Sebastian Winery .

• Taking a wander down St George Street which was filled with an array of art galleries, shops, and restaurants.

20. Table Rock State Park, South Carolina

At the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Pickens County is a 3000-acre park called Table Rock State Park.

The park contains Pinnacle Mountain, the tallest mountain in the state, and is known for its remarkable natural beauty. It is an outdoor lover’s paradise! 

In my opinion, the towering mountain serves as a beautiful backdrop for the park and its facilities. The park contains cabins and a campground, and I love that there is an old-fashioned swimming hole on one of the park’s two lakes.

If the weather permits, I highly recommend camping, swimming, boating, paddling, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking, and bird-watching in the park.

Table Rock is also an access point for the well-known Foothills Trail and Palmetto Trail. It is a classic getaway for anyone enjoying the cool winter air and natural outdoors. Enjoy!

Yellowstone is AMAZING in the winter. We used to live there and I loved when it cleared out of tourists (mostly) , was quieted with a blanket of snowfall and the animals were everywhere. We had many XC ski trips dodging bison herds. Highly recommend!

From the East Coast, you can fly to Puerto Rico in less time than most road trips, making it an appealing long-weekend destination during the winter months, but we love it in the summer too. Its capital, San Juan, is also one of our favorite cities for couples due to its mix of beautiful, historic buildings, and many charming, intimate restaurants. For an inexpensive hotel that is still suitably pampering for a romantic weekend, check in to the Condado Vanderbilt , located in the über-chic Condado district. The storied Spanish Revival property boasts amenities like pool and beach butlers, Puerto Rico’s only hammam, and two different oceanfront restaurants.

Antigua may not get as much attention as some other Lesser Antilles islands like St. Kitt’s or St. Lucia, but we think being a little more under the radar is what makes it one of the more romantic locales in the region. We’re huge fans of its gentle ocean breezes, peaceful white-sand beaches, and the vibrant coral reefs to explore by snorkel or scuba. And if you’re longing for a vacation during which you don’t have to plan a single thing, check out Curtain Bluff , an all-inclusive with—thankfully—delicious food and plenty of on-site bonding activities like snorkeling trips to Cades Reef or couples tennis lessons. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

About 168 miles north from Mexico City, the fairy-tale-like San Miguel de Allende is more than worth the three and a half-hour drive it takes to get there from the capital (or an hour and a half from the nearest airport in Léon, Guanajuato). The storied city, first established in the 16th century, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, and makes for an idyllic long weekend escape. Chic overnight options abound in San Miguel de Allende, though, for a truly memorable experience that captures the historic charm, consider staying at Casa de Sierra de Nevada, a Belmond Hotel. Located in the heart of the city center, the property consists of six restored 17th- and 18th century Mexican mansions in a walkable cluster, each complete with vaulted archways, bougainvillea-shaded courtyards, and ornate, trickling fountains. Accommodations-wise, there are 23 suites and 14 rooms, each one uniquely decorated with antique furnishings and local artworks. The outdoor pool, ensconced in lush greenery, is certainly a highlight, but far from the only one. There’s plenty to love and enjoy when staying here, from the central location to the variety of food; the hotel is home to two restaurants (Andanza and Restaurante del Parque), plus the Sazón Cooking School and Tunki Rooftop by Handshake, a rooftop bar with arguably the best views and cocktails in town. (Stop by for a drink at sunset and thank us later.) Having a car in San Miguel de Allende isn’t needed, as nearly all the main attractions are walkable; the hotel is minutes away from the daily Market, the Parroquia church (a 17th-century gothic marvel), and the best churros in town at Chocolates y Churros San Agustín. A vibrant art scene thrives in San Miguel de Allende; La Fabricá la Aurora is a must-visit for discovering the local crafts.

If you're thinking of heading out west, it's well worth spending a few days in the Land of Enchantment. Fly into Albuquerque, then make your way north to Santa Fe, an hour and change drive to New Mexico's capital. Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, Santa Fe is a popular destination for creatives and adventurers of all stripes, with a big local arts scene, unique pueblo-style adobe architecture, and tons of skiing, hiking, and mountain biking available throughout the year. For a weekend trip, stay at the charming Bishop's Lodge , which is located just outside the downtown area in Tesuque. It's the perfect place to appreciate the rich cultural history of New Mexico and reconnect with nature. Spend the morning swimming, horseback riding, or hiking around the property, then arrange for a pueblo tour for after lunch, followed by a massage in the spa. Book dinner at Sky Fire, which specializes in wood-fired dishes with local, seasonal ingredients. For a day trip, make time to visit Georgia O'Keeffe's home and studio in Abiquiú, which is open for private and public tours throughout the year.

Miami is an understandably popular destination: sunny skies, sexy cocktail bars, and plenty of beaches. But not every hotel screams romance when music from the rooftop bar is pounding until 2 a.m. That’s why we’re huge fans of Surfside, a more peaceful and elegant enclave due north of the debauchery of South Beach. And one of our favorite hotels there is one you’ve probably seen on Instagram: The Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club . A veritable oasis in the middle of the buzzing city, it boasts oceanfront rooms, some of Miami’s best restaurants, and a historic lobby bar that is as sultry as they come. They offer plenty of ways to pamper your significant other, including private poolside cabanas for some surreptitious canoodling, and personalized cocktails from the cocktail trolley at The Champagne Bar. Pro tip: You can even ask for a custom picnic basket to set up a romantic dinner on the beach. The Setai is another perfect place if you're there more to soak up the sun than the tequila. The entire property is dimly lit to exude all the calm energy, and that's nothing compared to visiting the five-star Valmont spa (get the Luminosity of Ice facial, trust us). There are also three different pools all set at different temperatures so you can swim year-round, and there's private beach access, too. As for dining, the Setai's options are unmatched. We're partial to Jaya which has a selection of Asian-fusion dishes and evening entertainment like fire dancers and contortionists.

Cancún, Mexico

Cancún might not be the first place you think of for a relaxing family vacation, but there's no reason why it can't be—and one of the best places to unwind in the Yucatan peninsula is the Garza Blanca Resort & Spa , one of the area's most modern and luxurious all-inclusive resorts. Set on a palm tree-studded beach, it features not one, not two, but six pools between the rooftop and the ground level that are perfect for entertaining couples, friend groups, and families with young kids. As an all-inclusive resort, food and drink is the star of the show: There are multiple Mexican cuisine options (including a taco food trunk on the beach), a Japanese restaurant, a steakhouse, and Chinese fusion up on the roof. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the suite—or in the Gourmet Hall, which turns into a massive buffet each morning. For a slow wakeup or night in, there's of course room service, which is handled here by a dedicated floor butler who's available round-the-clock. Since the word “spa” is in the resort's name, you'd be remiss not to book a spa appointment, which offers massages and facials, as well as a signature hydrotherapy circuit. (Pro tip: Book an evening session and watch the sunset as you alternate between dips in the cold plunge bath and the heated jacuzzi.) A four-night stay would be ideal to enjoy a little bit of everything the resort has to offer (hi, morning yoga), though we wouldn't blame you for wanting to extend your trip by a few more days.

Aruba, known as One Happy Island, is one of our favorite Caribbean vacation spots not only for its world-famous beaches but for its relative affordability. It has plenty of hotels for couples, like the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino , which is a popular spot for engagements (hint-hint). The hotel even employs a sunset concierge, who can suggest the perfect romantic spot for popping the big question. And if you’re already married? Fun fact: Aruba is also known as a vow-renewal destination and the hotel can set up a whole renewal package, which includes a couples massage and a 30-minute photo shoot during sunset. If your idea of romance is singing your heart out, the downtown happens to have a very fun piano bar . Or while away the day at Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort's private flamingo island, which is excellent for photo ops.

Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, on Mexico’s western coast, is fast becoming our favorite beach destination in the country. Not only are the shores of the Pacific Ocean spectacular, but many of the resorts in the area are comparatively inexpensive. One of the standout properties here is the Hilton Vallarta Riviera, which is perched between the Bahia de Banderas and the tropical forests near the Sierra Madre Mountains. And because every room here is outfitted with a private balcony, it’s a stellar hotel for a romantic escape. Or, for a hotel with history, stay at Casa Kimberly , the former home of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton (you can also just stop by for a cocktail). Plus, the LGBTQ+-friendly downtown has an array of fun bars, restaurants, and cabarets (don't miss the Beyoncé impersonator ), as well as affordable places to stay. We love Pinnacle Suites which is relatively inexpensive, especially if you're traveling with another couple.

We couldn’t write a romantic travel guide without including the City of Love, right? While we probably don’t need to sell you on Paris, we’ll give you a quick primer: Everything is beautiful. From the winding streets of Le Marais to the stunning art collections at Musée d’Orsay and the Louvre to the quiet elegance of the Seine River, it’s hard to turn a corner here without feeling amorous. And if you’re celebrating a special anniversary or just looking for a bit of a splurge trip, Hôtel de Crillon is jaw-droppingly romantic. Located in an iconic and historic building in the heart of the city at Place de La Concorde, the property is one of Paris’s grandes dames for good reason. For couples, indulgence is the key word here, from the bespoke treatments at Sense, a Rosewood Spa, to intimate private dinners at La Cave, to enormous suites, some of which were designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Don’t miss a meal at the brand-new restaurant, Nonos et Comestibles par Paul Pairet, helmed by one of France’s most acclaimed chefs. There's also the new Hôtel Dame des Arts in the Left Bank that features a beautiful rooftop bars with views for days. Celebrating a milestone anniversary? Also consider the Cheval Blanc Paris , which is, in a word très magnifique thanks to its stunning panoramic views of the Seine.

Wailea, Maui

You’re probably aware of the charms of the Hawaiian islands, and of Maui specifically, but we will direct you to our favorite part of the island: Wailea. With 1,500 acres of beaches and resorts and only 35 minutes from the Kahului Airport, it’s the idyllic spot for a romantic getaway. And no hotel in the area is better for couples than Hotel Wailea , an all-suite and—crucially—adults-only boutique property. For a once-in-a-lifetime dinner, book a meal in the hotel’s secluded treehouse, where couples can savor a seven-course meal while suspended among fragrant mango trees.

Mexico City

Mexico City is the most chameleon-like of cities, seemingly able to adapt to any sort of vacation, for any type of traveler. And with its charming, colorful streets, incredible yet inexpensive restaurants, plentiful mezcal, and temperate climate, it’s certainly top of mind for romantic weekend getaways. For a refuge that is both high-touch service but affordable, look into the charming Ignacia Guest House . With room for only 18 guests, it’s incredibly intimate, and it’s also filled with private terraces and fragrant gardens that can be the setting for clandestine kisses. Even better, it’s a proper bed-and-breakfast. Guests wake every morning to the smell of tortillas cooking on the griddle, and can sit down to a glass of orange juice freshly squeezed from the old-growth citrus trees on property.

New Orleans

If romance to you means excellent food and drink, and live music, then consider New Orleans. One of our favorite boutique hotels is also one of the city’s most inexpensive. International House , located just a few blocks away from the French Quarter, is inside a beautiful Beaux Arts building that is also the city’s first boutique hotel. The hotel can arrange a private cocktail experience at its award-winning bar, loa, or even a private Vodou ceremony, which includes creating a lucky charm for the couple.

Santa Barbara

While you can’t really say Prince Harry put Montecito and Santa Barbara on the map, we are finding ourselves more interested in the central California coast after he and Meghan Markle set up camp there a few years ago. Unfortunately, we can’t wrangle you a double date with the duo, but we can point you in the direction of one of Santa Barbara’s best hotels: Mar Monte . With three acres of Spanish-inspired grounds and a pool with oceanfront views, it’s the prime weekend getaway for romance. The hotel is also offering a special Mar Monte by Land and Sea package for the holiday, which includes a private flight, a three-hour wine tasting, and a private sunset charter on a yacht.

Elegant London, with its beautiful architecture, plentiful parks, and bountiful cultural activities (hello, West End), is one of our favorite cities for a romantic escape. And our preferred spot for a couples vacation is The Mayfair Townhouse , an intimate and stylish hotel that's primely located. Besides the attentive staff, we love the hotel’s on-site watering hole, The Dandy Bar, which is a great way to end a busy day of sightseeing (or begin the start of your evening). Couples looking for the utmost privacy and space should ask for the The Garden Suite, which comes with its own conservatory and patio. Or book a stay at the newly renovated, Dorchester in Mayfair which has an especially sexy site for sipping, the Vesper bar , which plays homage to James Bond.

Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina

There are few places we’ve visited that are imbued with a sense of calm like Palmetto Bluff, a secluded enclave of 20,000 acres in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. And with plenty of scenic walking paths, a stellar golf course, and tons of Southern-inflected restaurants, you won’t be bored, either. The area is also home to one of the state’s swankiest resorts: Montage Palmetto Bluff. A quick drive from either Savannah (another great couples escape) or Hilton Head, it’s ideal for a romantic getaway; on-site Spa Montage even has a whole section of the menu dedicated to couples. There you can indulge in everything from massages to the intriguingly named Lovers Jubilee, which includes an exfoliation, a soak, and a massage. And while we wouldn’t blame you if you were loath to leave your bed (they’re  very comfortable), make sure you grab dinner at River House, the hotel’s delicious ode to Lowcountry cuisine.

Chances are, when you think of a romantic Caribbean destination, you’re picturing something in the Bahamas. Known for its crystal-clear ocean water, and 16 major islands offering a wealth of outdoor activities, it’s an excellent locale for a romantic vacation that involves equal doses of downtime and heart-pounding adventure. The islands are home to a wide range of properties, but if you’re looking to truly wow your sweetheart, make a beeline for The Ocean Club . The unmatched beauty of Dominica’s landscape makes it one of the most soothing places to visit for a tropical vacation. And there is no hotel more romantic on the island than Secret Bay , whose all-villa room stock also makes it one of the most luxurious. But finding a hotel in Waikiki that’s romantic, chic,  and inexpensive was pretty much impossible until the recent opening of the über-charming Wayfinder . Hudson Valley, New York

We all know that the Hudson Valley is having a moment. And unlike some of the popular beach towns close to New York City, this bucolic area just a few hours north of the metropolis has plenty to offer year-round, from skiing in the winter to stunning hiking in the summer. But until this fall, it lacked a true destination-worthy property; the kind of place you splurge on for a special anniversary or romantic weekend away. That all changed with the opening of Wildflower Farms , a peaceful retreat set against the stunning backdrop of the Shawangunk Ridge. Asheville, North Carolina

This lush city in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains is as perfect for couples who like to take in nature (the hiking trails are next-level) as it is for those who prefer to…après-hike. There are as many scenic trails as there are breweries; plus, it has a bustling arts scene. In fact, travel experts are already seeing major spikes in travel and tourism, and the numbers are projected to continue climbing through 2022. The number of visitors through the summer, which is usually the low season in Los Cabos, Mexico where Bonnie Chase, wedding planner and owner of  Bliss Events , is based, were staggering. “Many people stayed home for a year or longer because of the pandemic, and now that travel advisories are lifted, people are feeling safer traveling, everyone is ready to jet off into the sunset,” she says. “Also, many people made more and spent less money during the first year of the pandemic that they had prior to that, and are now in a more financially comfortable financial position to travel, so we’re also seeing a trend of elevated event budgets.”

The good news: If you’re looking to travel in 2022 , your chances of an unforgettable trip are pretty high. So many destinations are back up and running and are eager to satisfy travelers coming through—especially those looking to celebrate something special, like an anniversary. Napa, California

If you and your spouse appreciate a good glass of cabernet, chances are, California wine country has been on your list of places to visit for some time.
