Ricardo Arjona Announces Retirement – Here’s What We Know
After wrapping up a sold-out world tour, Ricardo Arjona will be saying goodbye to performing for good. Yesterday (Dec. 11), the Guatemalan pop icon announced that he’s retiring from music.
Arjona returned to the music scene in 2021 with two albums titled Blanco and Negro . When artists could start touring again after the COVID-19 pandemic, Arjona kicked off his Blanco y Negro: Volver World Tour in 2022. Due to popular demand, the tour was extended into this year, performing in 115 cities and 22 countries, including the U.S. Because of his health issues, Arjona had to reschedule and cancel some concerts during the tour’s run.

In one of his last concerts in Argentina, Arjona opened up about the health issues he was facing on the tour. He revealed that he went through six spinal infiltrations to be able to keep performing. “These last two months were worse than any other,” he said in Spanish. “After six spinal infiltrations, I am here and I’m standing.”

Arjona finally wrapped up the Blanco y Negro: Volver World Tour on Dec. 10 at the Estadio Bicentenario La Florida in Chile. After finishing that last concert, he thanked the fans for their support and revealed his retirement plans in an Instagram post.
“To the doctors who got me on my feet so I could finish this journey by postponing an imminent surgery, thank you very much,” he wrote. “I have had six spinal infiltrations in the last two months to be able to stand and say farewell. My name is Ricardo. Those who love me call me Seco, and I’m happier and more fulfilled than ever, although with an ailment that will soon be history. I say goodbye and thank you with all my heart.”
Arjona added that he is not sure if his retirement will be definite. After he recovers from his health issue, he said that he would have to find a good reason to return to the stage. If that doesn’t happen, Arjona is content to keep enjoying his retirement.

RICARDO ARJONA ANNOUNCES BLANCO Y NEGRO: VOLVER 2023
Produced by Loud And Live, and Back by Popular Demand the Blanco y Negro: Volver Tour 2023.
“ Loud And Live had the honor of producing Ricardo’s Blanco y Negro Tour last year with 35 shows in the United States and Ecuador, making it one of the most successful tours of all time ,” said Nelson Albareda, CEO and Founder of Loud And Live . “ This year, we are deeply proud to reunite him with his fans .”
After reaching an audience of more than three million people with “Hecho A La Antigua,” the most viewed streaming concert in the history of music in Latin America and Spain, Ricardo Arjona set a precedent with BLANCO Y NEGRO, as it has been considered the artist's most daring bet. It is a breath of fresh air from an established singer-songwriter who is constantly reinventing himself and who typically doesn’t repeat cities on a tour, is ready for BLANCO Y NEGRO: VOLVER .
While everyone looked to follow popular trends in music, Ricardo Arjona once again chose his own path and ventured out to the legendary Abbey Road studios to produce 24 original songs. Once again contradicting everything that exists in music in Spanish and reinforcing more than ever what he knows how to do best.
Anyone who thinks that BLANCO Y NEGRO is the most popular project on the radio, or that appears in the most playlists on Spotify are wrong. With a black and white aesthetic and a video for each song, recorded in the same studio in London where the 24 songs were made, Ricardo Arjona started a project amid a pandemic that industry scholars pointed out as doomed to fail. It brought together elements not commonly used nowadays in the music industry recording live instruments with equipment from the 60s, without any technological fuss.
To this day, BLANCO Y NEGRO , with close to 100 shows between Europe, United States and Latin America, is one of the most popular tours in the market. More than a million and a half people attended the concerts last year, all claiming that the show is not just a concert but a unique experience. The tour was distinguished as one of the 20 most powerful tours in the world along with Coldplay’s and several others.

Ricardo Arjona born Edgar Ricardo Arjona Morales is a Guatemalan singer-songwriter and one of the most successful Latin American artists of all time.
Born on the 19th January 1964 in Jocotenango, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, Arjona’s early life was spent playing basketball for the National Team touring around Central America and teaching in a primary school.
At the age of 21 Arjona signed with the label PolyGram through which he released his debut album “Déjame Decir Que Te Amo” in 1985, and who keyholed the singer as a stereotypical Latin-lover. Unsurprisingly the album failed. Three years later when Arjona was 24 he represented Guatemala in the OTI Festival performing the song “Con Una Estrella En El Vientre” which led to the release of his second album “Jesús, Verbo No Sustantivo” which brought Arjona significant commercial success becoming a best-seller in many Central American territories.
Ricardo Arjona is highly respected in Latin American music due to his socially conscious approach to songwriting. Highlighting the inequalities of capitalism and imperialism and addressing issues such as love, sexuality, racism, violence and immigration among many others, leading to Arjona long been referred to as a protest singer. After enjoying consistent commercial success under the Song BMG record label Arjona signed a long-term deal with Warner Music Latina in late 2008.
The Guatemalan has released a total of 14 studio albums, four of which have top the Billboard Top Latin Album Chart including the thirteen-platinum album “Tropico” and the double platinum album “Santo Pecado”, one live album , nine compilation albums and no fewer than forty-three singles. His music has earned the singer a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album for “Adentro” in 2007, a Latin Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Album also for Adentro in 2006, as well as a Rafael Álvarez Ovalle Order from the then President of Guatemala, Ramiro de León Carpio, for his international accomplishments.
Live reviews
Ricardo Arjona live is a visually impressive, fun, exciting show. The concert I was at had a large TV screen playing 3D animated footage of roads and other things that made one feel as if they were on a roller coaster ride of a concert.
As one of the most successful Latin artists of all time he doesn't have to try, but he still does and we should all be thankful for it. As one poppy Latin song comes to an end he belts out notes very few artists could make sound good and moves on to slow, haunting Latin ballads. In these he stares into the souls of his audience. He shows them his soul and they show him theirs. The audience sways with the rock ballad guitar playing just loudly enough to accentuate his lyrics of life and love.
Ricardo pulls no punches even with all of his success. He just keeps getting better and better. The lights flicker and the audience sings along to the ballads they all know, until the very last note is struck and they all cheer...and then the encore, slower, softer, and even more lovely. There is nothing quite like Ricardo Arjona live singing directly to your soul.

Edgar Ricardo Arjona Morales better known by his stage name of Ricardo Arjona is one of Guatemala's most well known musicians with his unique take on latin pop. It is incredible to think that his first album was released three decades ago, and since then Ricardo has seen his reputation grow substantially.
He is an unashamed showman and this confident persona goes down fantastically with his loyal fan base. He struts onto the stage in time to the brass introduction of 'A la luna en bicicleta' and this confirms to the audience that they are in for quite a show. The cheers are deafening and Arjona approaches the microphone with a bold grin and says his first thank you of the evening before strumming the guitar introduction of 'Acompáñame a ester solo'.
The audience cheers him on continuously during complex instrumentals and huge versions of his pop classics. The whole show is a visual experience and the crowd leaves the venue safe in the knowledge they have witnessed the very highest calibre of latino pop music.

Ricardo Arjona, Prolific Latin Pop Star, Says He Will Stop Touring
The Guatemalan singer-songwriter, 59, said that his latest performance in Chile would be his last after struggling with back issues that made it difficult to stand and perform.
By Jesus Jiménez
Ricardo Arjona, the Guatemalan singer and songwriter known for dozens of Latin pop ballads that became international hits over a career that spanned more than 30 years, said he would stop touring, citing back problems and an imminent surgery.
Arjona, 59, wrote in social media posts on Sunday that he would stop performing on his “Blanco y Negro” tour after a show in Santiago, Chile, though his statement fell short of announcing a retirement.
“I’ll have to disappear to invent a reason that’s bigger than this,” he wrote in Spanish. “If I can’t find it, I prefer not to return.”
Arjona said he had received “six spinal infiltrations,” also known as epidural injections, over the past two months to be able to stand during his concerts, and to delay surgery. Before he performed on Saturday, Arjona said he wasn’t sure if he would be able to take a step. His “Blanco y Negro” tour, which began last year in Buenos Aires, included dozens of shows, with several stops in Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala. The North American leg of the tour this year included stops at Madison Square Garden in New York, as well as dozens of other cities across the United States.
“I came from dear Argentina, which gave me songs in the street and gave me a glory that I did not deserve,” he said. “I say goodbye in this Chile of so many stories and affections.”
The tour highlighted two of his albums: “Blanco,” which was released in 2020, and “Negro,” which came out in 2021. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Arjona has produced more than a dozen studio albums, which have earned him several awards and accolades, including the Billboard Latin music lifetime achievement award in 2017.
In 2006, Arjona won a Grammy Award for best Latin pop album and the Latin Grammy Award for best male pop vocal album for his album “Adentro.” As of December, Arjona’s music was drawing more than 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify .
Arjona began his musical career in the 1980s, and after his music didn’t initially attract many listeners, he briefly taught at a public school, he said in an interview in 2011 . He returned to music, and his career took off in the 1990s, when he released songs like “Historia de Taxi,” the tale of a taxi driver’s love affair. The song remains one of his most popular hits to date, having been played more than 158 million times on Spotify. Multiple other hits followed and ranked him on the top Latin music charts for his signature songs of romantic lyrics and inventive storytelling.
“Life and people have been immensely generous to this Guatemalan,” he wrote on social media, adding, “a public-school teacher, who by playing the guitar, adding some words and trying a melody, achieved a miracle that I never suspected.”

Ricardo arjona announces blanco y negro: volver 2023.
Produced by Loud And Live, and Back by Popular Demand the Blanco y Negro: Volver Tour 2023 Will Hit More Than 23 cities Throughout the US
Tickets on Sale Starting This Friday, January 20th at www.ricardoarjona.com
MIAMI, FL. – (January 18, 2023) – Loud And Live , the South Florida-based entertainment, marketing and media company, announces that BLANCO Y NEGRO, considered one of the most successful tours of 2022 by superstar artist and composer Ricardo Arjona , has extended into 2023 by popular demand as BLANCO Y NEGRO: VOLVER .
More than 23 North American cities will be part of the historic experience of BLANCO Y NEGRO: VOLVER , including for the first time San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, Austin, Kansas, Minneapolis, and Ontario, among other cities. The tour begins in Seattle on Friday, April 28th.
The prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York City prepares to welcome RICARDO ARJONA for the first time with his BLANCO Y NEGRO: VOLVER , tour on Sunday, June 18th.

- “Ricardo Arjona’s Blanco y Negro Tour: A Timeless Odyssey of Latin Music in Music City”
- LIVE MUSIC REVIEW
A visual feast unfolded as the stage, adorned with a grand piano and an eclectic band, came alive under the arena’s dazzling lights. Arjona, stepping onto the stage, was met with a deafening roar that did not cease but ebbed and flowed rhythmically with the maestro’s performance throughout the night. This reception underscored Arjona’s legacy as one of Latin America’s most lauded musical troubadours.
Arjona’s concert was no mere gathering of songs. It was a time machine that transported us back to our pasts, to distant places etched in our memories, and to deeply personal moments we hold dear. For me, as a Nicaraguan, Arjona’s music, with its soul-stirring blend of revolutionary spirit and poetic profundity, resonated deeply. His album ‘Si el Norte Fuera el Sur’ was an ever-present companion during my teenage years, the rebellious lyrics and thought-provoking themes still provoke sparks of introspection to this day. The sociopolitical commentary inherent in his music, particularly in this album, continues to hold relevance, serving as a sobering reminder of the enduring struggles and challenges many of us face. It never ceases to give me goosebumps, stirring a sense of profound connection and shared reality.
As I glanced around, Central American flags waved proudly in the air, a vibrant visual affirmation of the beautiful diversity present that night. The audience was a remarkable blend of cultures and experiences, including some who had journeyed from the rural corners of Tennessee for their first taste of the arena’s grandeur. This scene was a living testament to America’s cultural mosaic, mirroring the diverse roots that give richness to this great nation.
The man of the hour, Arjona, wielded his lyrical prowess with an irresistible charisma, drawing the audience into a narrative tapestry spun with playful critique and affectionate compliments. In Arjona’s arsenal of songs, there’s one notable piece where he manages to call a woman ‘reputa’, a term that might typically scandalize, yet when threaded through his poetic lyrics, he manages to serve it as a surprisingly endearing compliment. Although he didn’t perform this particular song at the concert, it still stands as a testament to his charismatic artistry. He possesses the unique ability to say what might seem unsayable, and yet it’s received not as an insult, but as a compliment, and this only attests to his captivating charm and lyrical genius.
An emotionally charged wave surged through the crowd when Arjona, answering the audience’s request, performed ‘Mi Novia se esta poniendo vieja.’ The song’s lyrics tugged at heartstrings, and tears welled up in the eyes of many, both men and women. This was a moment when the pain and longing concealed within the hearts of those unable to return home to their ill mothers due to legal restrictions were painfully visible. It was a moment of shared sorrow and longing, a poignant slice of reality cutting through the evening’s revelry, reminding us all of the human stories and sacrifices that bind us together, regardless of the boundaries.
A memorable highlight of the concert unfolded when Arjona, like a Latin pied piper, lured a woman from the farthest reaches of the arena to join him in the limelight. As the opening notes of ‘Señora de las Cuatro Décadas’ filled the air, Arjona crooned directly to the lucky lady, sparking a wave of gleeful envy across the sea of spectators. It was a moment of delightful fantasy; for a few magical minutes, each person in the crowd vicariously lived the dream of being serenaded by the master troubadour himself.
Arjona’s Blanco y Negro: Volver Tour was a concert I cherished from beginning to end. It was a magnificent amalgamation of musical storytelling, shared personal memories, revolutionary spirit, and above all, a celebration of the unity and diversity that music can inspire. To all music aficionados and lovers of life, I say: experience the magic of Ricardo Arjona’s music. It is, quite simply, unforgettable.
