East Nashville Beer Works

East Nashville Beer Works is a neighborhood gem; it boasts a spacious beer garden where it can host pop-up yoga classes or classic movie screenings. This impressively sized patio is dog- and kid-friendly, too — so much so, in fact, that its jungle gym rivals most local parks (and is probably sanitized more consistently). Inside, the taproom hosts live music night and you can find a variety of great beers including seasonal flavors, creative IPAs, and stouts. If you get hungry, it has pizza, appetizers, and salads on its menu.

Living Waters Brewing

Living Waters is Nashville’s little engine that could. Along with its well-crafted beers, it also features an impressive coffee program. And while it may not be remotely close to being the largest brewery in East Nashville, that hasn’t hindered its ability to make great beer. Brewer-owners Ryan McCay and Thomas Becker create some wonderfully crafted beers that beer geeks across the country dream about getting their hands on. Their taproom is a warm, welcoming space with a small outdoor patio. They always strive to support local businesses, offering pastries and bites curated from local businesses daily while supplies last.

Southern Grist Brewing Company - East Nashville Taproom

Smack in the heart of East Nashville, Southern Grist is known for its ambitiously creative beer selection — one glance at its menu and you’ll realize that it doesn’t put any traditional beer constraints on its creations, adding personality through ingredients to every style of beer it produces. From exotic fruits to pickles and marshmallows, Southern Grist fearlessly brews with anything you can think of. If you’re on the move, Southern Grist sells to-go beers in cans and crowlers, but it also has a super comfy, family-friendly lounge and a pet-friendly porch if you’d rather sit and sip through its beer list. Southern Grist opened its second location in the Nations with more seating, a larger bar and patio, plus a fast-casual version of the original’s signature restaurant, Lauter.

Bearded Iris Brewing (Germantown)

Local cool kid brewery Bearded Iris is putting out some of the most sought-after, hop-forward beers in Nashville. Located in Germantown, its original taproom is also its production facility. Although Bearded Iris has successfully dipped its toes in other styles of beer — such as fruited kettle sours, lagers, and pastry stouts — it’s crushing the hop game by cranking out a steady flow of dry-hopped, imperial, and double IPAs. A second location can be found in the Sylvan Supply development in The Nations neighborhood, which houses a much smaller brew system for R&D. Although you can still get some of the popular offerings found at the Germantown location, you’ll also find different, small-batch experimental brews here.

Monday Night Preservation Co.

Monday Night Brewing opened Monday Night Preservation Co. in Germantown in 2021, bringing the Atlanta-based brews to an enormous tap room. Expect to find long picnic-style tables in the transformed Neuhoff development, which was formerly a meatpacking district in the early 1900s. Barrique is the most niche kid on the block. Specializing in wild ales fermented in oak barrels, brewer-owner Joel Stickrod started in 2018 with his first beer ready for release in 2019. Barrique moved into the space that was formerly home to Little Harpeth Brewing; its taproom is lined with barrels and wooden accents. Although it specializes in wild ales, Barrique also puts out ales and lagers for beer palates that prefer simpler brews. It hosts a rotating cast of pop-ups, so your food is guaranteed to be as satisfying as the beer.

Blackstone Brewing Co

Blackstone Brewing launched in 1994, making it one of Nashville’s first and oldest craft breweries. The West End taproom sits within the Blackstone Brewing production facility, which is the same facility that also brews for Nashville Brewing Company. This state-of-the-art brewery offers tours and has a converted bus that serves as a permanent food truck. The B Stone bus has a solid brewery bites menu that includes a selection of burgers, artichoke dip, and fish and chips.

Harding House Brewing Co.

Located in The Nations, Harding House Brewing Co. is a brewery and taproom with a major focus on its community and brewing beers with local and seasonal ingredients — a farm to pint concept, if you will. Its menu has recurring selections, as well as seasonal offerings and some experimental sprinkled in the mix. Harding House has a good blend of beer styles, but its saisons are not to be missed. The taproom is cozy for a weeknight pint, but the roll-up garage doors are ready for when it’s party time.

Fat Bottom Brewing Co.

Fat Bottom essentially swapped a small, 5000-square-foot facility in East Nashville for a state-of-the-art 33,000-square-foot home in the Nations. The new facility sits on an acre and a half plot of land which afforded Fat Bottom space to not only expand the production floor and taproom but also build a giant event space and The Hop Yard, its outdoor beer garden. The brewery also operates a full-service kitchen that’s open for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

Czann's Brewing Company

Formerly a SoBro staple, Czann’s up and moved its operation to The Nations where it’s taken over a space that once accommodated a church. Just a hop, skip, and jump away from a handful of other breweries, Czann’s is another addition to what seems to be becoming Nashville’s brewing district. Unlike his younger peers, founder Ken Rebman is not chasing the latest beer trend or looking to pump his beer full of fruit puree. Ken is focused on making solid, clean beer and marching to the beat of his own drum. The Czann’s taproom is a tall, open space with ample TVs, but if you want to take in the fresh Nashville air, its patio is also open for seating.

Yee-Haw Brewing Co.

Yee-Haw Brewing sits right in the heart of SoBro — equal parts adults playground, gift shop, and brewery. With roots in Johnson City, Tennessee, Yee-Haw plays it pretty safe with its beer selection, so don’t expect anything over-the-top to overwhelm your palate. Its magic, though, is in its vast options of year-round beers — there’s something for everyone. If beer’s not enough for you, it offers moonshine tastings, a large beer garden, and a giant TV screen for sporting events. If you get hungry, treat yourself to some refreshingly creative tacos from White Duck Taco Shop, which is located inside of the venue.

Tennessee Brew Works

What started as a hobby among friends has evolved into a brewery with a two-story taproom and a full-service kitchen that offers lunch and dinner. If you’re privy to watching brewers do their job, you’re in luck. The production floor is on full display behind large windows in the seating area. If you want to do more than ogle at the brewers, stop in on a Saturday and enjoy a guided tour to learn about their eco-friendly brewing methods. It also has live music throughout the week and one of the best burgers in the city.

Jackalope Brewing Company - The Ranch

Jackalope Brewing opened this space, affectionately known as the Ranch, as a production facility with a taproom in 2018. (Its original location, the Den, closed in early 2021.) Aside from offering consistently solid year-round beers, it supplements its lineup with tasty seasonal selections and fun, creative beers with its Shapeshifter Series. Throughout the week, various food trucks rotate in and out of the venue, and its staff is some of the friendliest and most knowledgeable around town.

Diskin Cider

Nashville’s first craft cidery, Diskin Cider, opened in Wedgewood-Houston back in 2018 thanks to Pacific Northwest transplant Adam Diskin and his pal, Todd Evans. After studying under an English cider master, the pair opened a warehouse-style cidery that boasts plenty of seating both inside and out, along with a menu of craft brews made with fresh-pressed apples. If you’re wary of ciders, fear not, a team of experts stands ready to help you find your new favorite. Nashville may be known for music but it’s also home to a thriving beer culture.

Nashville boasts a rich craft beer history , thanks to a large population of German settlers who made their homes in the area during the 19th century. In fact, records indicate large-scale brewing operations date back to as early as 1815, when Thomas M. Burland opened the Nashville Porter and Ale Brewery. Sadly, the United States’ temperance movement of the 1920s put a serious damper on the growth of Nashville breweries, and the industry didn’t see a full recovery until the start of the craft beer revival of the 1960s.

Nowadays, there are about 25 breweries located in and around the city. Like other large metropolitan areas across the nation, Nashville experienced a few setbacks in 2020 including a devastating tornado , but the local beer industry weathered through the literal (and figurative) storm.

Known as a bachelor(ette) destination, with twentysomethings spilling out of honky tonks onto 2nd Avenue and Broadway every day of the week, there are plenty of breweries slinging stout lagers or eyebrow-raising IPAs. Next time you’re in town, check out one of these seven taprooms—or embark on a Nashville brewery tour—for a truly one-of-a-kind pint.

Southern Grist Brewing

East Nashville and the Nations

Southern Grist , around since 2016, is a local favorite best known for its hearty barrel-aged stouts, New England-style IPAs, and fruited sours. It features a constantly rotating menu of small-batch beers (that means there are less than five gallons of each fresh brew) and doesn’t have a single flagship beer, rather choosing to constantly experiment with flavors. Southern Grist started out of its East Nashville location—a warm, cozy environment that offers plush couches as well as traditional bar-stool seating—then expanded to another taproom this year, located directly in front of its production facility.

Smith & Lentz

In Nashville’s lively Fivepoints neighborhood, known for its busy bars and trendy restaurants, Smith & Lentz serves up pizza and great beer, making this one of our favorite carb fests in town. Though known for its lagers and hoppy IPAs, Smith & Lentz offers non-beer options like hard cider and kombucha to pair with sourdough-leavened pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven or homemade pastries made with artisan grains. They also host brewery tours but those have been suspended due to the pandemic—a comeback date has yet to be announced.

New Heights Brewing Company

Neighborhood: Wedgewood-Houston

Award-winning Nashville brewery New Heights Brewing Company is holding it down in the heart of Nashville on Rep. John Lewis Way with its IPAs and rich stouts. The brewery is led by head brewer Jeff Fountain, who entered the Nashville craft-beer business after years of working at San Diego’s award-winning Mission Brewery and experimenting with beers at home. Though it opened just five years ago, New Heights Brewery has already amassed a solid crowd of die-hard fans. Before COVID-19, New Heights used to host brewery tours, but have since put them on pause.

Blackstone Brewing Company

Neighborhood: Hadley-Washington

Launched by Kent Taylor and Stephanie Weins in 1994, Blackstone Brewing Company claims to be Nashville’s oldest and most award-winning craft brewery (it has brought home medals from the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup). Blackstone Brewery has a fully automated, 30-barrel brewhouse, as well as a fully automated bottling assembly system. In addition to mind-blowing ales, Blackstone also serves burgers, pizzas, and even Southern classics like shrimp and grits. Blackstone Brewing Company has three kinds of tours—a guided tour through its brewing and bottling facility, a historical tour which highlights the beer history of Nashville from the early 1800s through the 1950s, and a private tour with co-founder, Kent Taylor, intended for anyone who would like to geek out about homebrewing. Availability is limited due to the pandemic, so it’s recommended to book in advance .

Germantown and Sylvan Heights

In terms of variety, Bearded Iris doesn’t have much, with a menu that heavily favors IPAs, DIPAs, and pale ales—but that’s because this brewery knows what it does best. Though the business originally began at its Germantown location, Bearded Iris has become so popular that it recently opened the doors to a second taproom in Nashville’s upscale Sylvan Heights neighborhood. Some menu highlights include the Mood Ring brew (with berry overtones), the pilsner Pep Talk, and the tried-and-true, oated IPA Homestyle. Though Bearded Iris doesn’t have a kitchen, guests are welcome to bring their own food.

Yazoo Brewing Company

Neighborhood: Madison

Yazoo Brewing Company is technically sited on the outskirts of Nashville in the suburb of Madison, but any brewery round-up would be remiss not to mention it. Owner Linus Hall opened Yazoo in 2003 in the historic Marathon Motor Works building on the banks of the Cumberland River. The brewery has a gorgeous outdoor patio area, as well as a sizable indoor tap room. Best known for their fruity and funky sours, Yazoo’s menu changes daily and offers seasonal selections such as the autumn-inspired pumpkin ale. Brewery tours are offered on Saturdays and are currently limited to 12 guests.

Tennessee Brew Works

Neighborhood: Pie Town

Tennessee Brew Works operates with a lofty, yet admirable vision in mind: to brew high-quality beer that pays homage to the land, traditions, and culture of Tennessee. The brewery uses grains and other ingredients from local farmers, and the spent grains are later repurposed by Southwinds Cattle Company to feed their Wagyu cattle. In addition, Tennessee Brew Works has a 25-barrel system that is highly efficient and requires less water, raw materials, and energy than a traditional system. Some highlights from the menu include their Belgian-style white ale, Southern wit, and India pale ale Hippies & Cowboys.

The 5 Best Nashville Breweries and Distilleries

Nelson's Green Brier Distillery crafts some of the nation's finest whiskeys, based on the recipe originally developed over a century ago.

If you're spending any amount of time in Nashville , you have to tour at least one of the breweries or distilleries that have made a name for themselves in town.

Sure, Nashville is well-known for its twangy honky-tonks, but it's also a community that companies making great ales and spirits proudly call home. (Some might even say Nashville's a drinking town with a music problem.)

If you're planning a trip to Music City, here are some of the finest breweries and distilleries you can tour.

Yazoo Brewing Co.

"One of the best breweries in Nashville is also one of the most famous and that is Yazoo brewery," says Shannon Gray, lead concierge at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel . "A lot of people like to go to Yazoo because it's right in the Gulch. You can have a really nice meal and a few adult beverages and then walk it off."

When you ask anyone in town about local breweries, Yazoo Brewing Co. is nearly guaranteed to be one of their first recommendations. It's been around since 2003, and its seasonal brews are offered on draft at the most popular local watering holes. (Yazoo Pale Ale is a staple in these parts.) It's one of the oldest craft breweries in Nashville, but its popularity is largely driven by one simple factor: The beer is really, really good. And, the taproom is one of the best in town, where you can relax and grab a pint.

Andrew Atkins III, a longtime resident and lead navigator/concierge at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel , agrees, saying, "These guys are ahead of the game. Yazoo has thought of the guest first. They are not just producing beer, they are asking people to come and hang out."

Tours are $8 per person, and the brewery is open Wednesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It's closed Sunday through Tuesday.

Nelson's Green Brier Distillery

"As far as distilleries go, Green Brier is my favorite," says Kelcie Borton, lead concierge at the Sheraton Grand Nashville Downtown . "Their history is just really cool. They were actually more successful than Jack Daniel's before the [statewide] prohibition."

The turn-of-the-century Tennessee prohibition shut down the family business, but its story didn't end there. Nelson's Green Brier Distillery was resurrected in recent years by several of its heirs. Today, the distillery once again crafts some of the nation's finest whiskeys, based on the recipe originally developed over a century ago.

Dawn Kote, concierge at the Hilton Nashville Downtown , says she loves the distillery's Belle Meade Bourbon.

Tours are $10 for those 21 and older, $5 for youths 13 to 21, free for kids 12 and younger and $5 for those with a military ID. The distillery is open Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tennessee Brew Works

One thing that sets this microbrewery apart is that it has a macro view of its role in the community. It's determined not just to make great beer but to lead the industry by using environmentally friendly practices. Tennessee Brew Works was one of the first breweries to use a unique green brewing process that requires a very small amount of water. It completed its first professional brew in 2013 and has since become a local favorite.

"Tennessee Brew Works, it's just a little south of downtown Nashville. They have a really great facility," says Ryan Mailley, guest services ambassador at the Omni Nashville Hotel . "The beer is great. One of my favorite things about them is their craft food menu. They serve one of the best burgers I've had in Nashville."

The brewery is open Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tours are offered every Saturday for $7 per person.

Jackalope Brewing Co.

This brewery, located a smidge south of downtown, makes some award-winning ales, stouts and hefeweizens. Its founders are noteworthy, too: Bailey Spaulding and Robyn Virball broke into a traditionally male-dominated industry when the women established Jackalope Brewing Co. in 2011.

Mailley says he's a fan of Jackalope Brewing. "I think they are unique because they are one of the only all-women-founded breweries in the country. If you ever have the chance to go, it's an awesome tour."

Jackalope Brewing offers $7 tours of the brewery, which last about 45 minutes, and a trivia night every Thursday for those brave enough to match wits with other lager-lovers.

The brewery is open Monday through Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Tour availability varies by season.

The Black Abbey Brewing Co.

The Black Abbey Brewing Co. 's monastery-inspired brand is not exactly what you'd expect in Music City. But, its Belgian-style beer has developed quite a following among thirsty Nashvillians seeking something a little more interesting than your typical brew.

Case in point: the recent success of The Forty-Four Coffee Porter, a robust brew honoring 44th President Barack Obama. The brewery's website notes it's "liberally infused with an exclusive blend of Hawaiian and Kenyan coffee beans." The porter became so popular that it graduated from a seasonal to a year-round selection.

One thing to note is that this brewery is located well outside downtown Nashville. It's an easy 5-mile drive just south of town, but plan to visit before or after evening rush hour to avoid traffic.

The brewery is open Wednesday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Tours are available Saturdays for $10 per person. It's closed Monday and Tuesday.

“Nashville has seen a boom in craft breweries, with new establishments popping up pretty regularly. These breweries often experiment with various beer styles, creating a rich and diverse craft beer culture,” says Ashley Wyman, food and beverage manager at Sidebar Nashville . Distilleries followed suit, she adds, “The local distillery scene has been growing, with numerous small-batch and artisanal distilleries producing a wide range of spirits, including my personal favorites: whiskey, mead, and gin.”

While you’ll run into a few breweries and distilleries in downtown Nashville, many of them are found outside the typical tourist areas. “One of the coolest parts about checking out Nashville’s distilleries and breweries is that it takes you away from the main drag of Broadway, [allowing] you to see other neighborhoods where the people of Nashville actually live,” says Akinde Olagundoye , brand ambassador for Filthy Food and bar manager at Humble Baron , AB , Desert Rose , and One 19 . “There you can find the culture of the city, and the products really showcase the talent of the people.” If you aren’t sure where to start, Wyman suggests exploring East Nashville, The Nations, and Wedgewood-Houston.

Nelson's Green Brier Distillery

The history of Nelson's Green Brier Distillery dates back to the 1800s, when Charles Nelson, the great-great-great-grandfather of the current owners, found success making Tennessee whiskey in pre-prohibition America. Today, Andy and Charlie Nelson combine history — they sell Nelson’s Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey, made with their family’s original recipe — and modernity in their Marathon Village location. Olagundoye describes the team behind the distillery as “community-oriented and down-to-earth,” and Wyman notes they offer “an amazing tour of their facilities.” Just be sure to book in advance; the weekend tours tend to sell out.

Bearded Iris Brewing

“ Bearded Iris , in my opinion, is the best brewery in Nashville,” says Wilson Brannock, managing partner at Noko . Olagundoye mentions that their IPAs are “palatable to people [who] are more averse to hops,” and Wyman says their “creative” approach to brewing results in a “diverse and exciting beer lineup.” The Germantown taproom is the original location, and it’s here you’ll find the main production facility and plenty of patio space to sip on a Queen Bee or Double Agent, among other beers on tap. 

Ole Smoky Distillery

It’s all about moonshine at Ole Smoky Distillery , which serves up flavors like butter pecan, blackberry, and apple pie. The brand has a few distilleries around Tennessee, but the Nashville location is found at the 6th & Peabody complex. You don’t need a reservation for tastings, but you will need one for guided tours. The tour grants you behind-the-scenes access to the distillery followed by a sample of 13 different moonshines and whiskies. 

Corsair Distillery and Taproom

Experimentation is at the heart of Corsair Distillery and Taproom . Founded by childhood friends Darek Bell and Andrew Webber, Corsair aims to put “Nashville in a bottle” with its line of whiskies, gin, and craft beers. Guided tours and tastings, which can be booked online, are offered every day. Rick Margaritov, owner of Present Tense and Hippo Bodega in Nashville, says Corsair is definitely “worth a stop, not just for a specialty cocktail (or two) at their taproom bar, but for a stroll through the newly activated shopping arcade within the old auto factory.”

Southern Grist Brewing Company

Olagundoye describes Southern Grist Brewing Company as the “sour king.” “They are always releasing fun, seasonal, and adventurous sours that are perfect for warm weather, and really all year round.” The East Nashville taproom opened in 2016, and the team has spent the last seven years creating over 1,000 different beers — including a blueberry cobbler sour ale, a mango upside-down cake IPA, and Southern Crisp, a classic pilsner. For Brannock, Southern Grist tops the list thanks to its “cool outdoor setup [and] a large selection of beers.” Plus, he notes they have zero-proof options as well.

Pennington Distilling Co.

The spirits portfolio of Pennington Distilling Co. comes highly recommended by Nashvillians. “They make Davidson Reserve, which is a Tennessee whiskey that probably doesn’t get as much shine as it deserves. They also make Pickers Vodka, an ode to guitar players and live music in Nashville,” says Olagundoye. The craft distillery’s other offerings include Whisper Creek Tennessee Sipping Cream and Walton’s Finest Vodka .  “Each one is meticulously crafted to meet the highest standards of a fast-paced music city made for drinking,” says Wyman. Olagundoye describes the Nations neighborhood spot as a “fun and welcoming space,” and tours can be reserved Tuesday through Sunday.

Nearest Green Distillery

Nearest Green Distillery is a little less than an hour from Nashville in Shelbyville — but it still makes the list thanks to its important industry contributions as well as its accolades. “It’s a beautiful sight, rich with important Black and women’s history,” says Olagundoye. Victoria Eady Butler is the great-great-grandaughter of Nathan “Nearest” Green, an enslaved and later emancipated man who taught Jack Daniel the craft of whiskey distillation. The distillery’s whiskey has received a significant number of awards over the years, and Eady Butler was the first person to be awarded the title of “Master Blender of the Year” by Whisky Magazine for two years running.

Tennessee Brew Works has a few things going for it: a focus on natural ingredients, beautifully designed graphics (take a look at their current beer lineup ), and a location featuring live music, happy hour specials, and guided brewery tours. Weather permitting, find a spot on the rooftop and enjoy one of the “headliners” on tap — or a seasonal beverage that catches your eye — paired with Nashville hot chicken or the brewery’s Five Beer Burger.

“ Leiper’s Fork Distillery down in Franklin, just 15 minutes south of Nashville, is a beautiful spot off-the-grid to hit when coming to town,” says Margaritov. The small-batch whiskey distillery features a 200-year-old tasting room, where visitors can sample the made-in-house spirits — including Bourbon Bottled In Bond, Leiper’s Fork Straight Rye Whiskey, and Tennessee Whiskey Single Barrel Cask Strength. Tours and tastings can be booked online .

Yazoo Brewing Company

“ Yazoo Brewing Company is one of Nashville's most renowned craft breweries,” says Wyman. “Their commitment to using quality ingredients and traditional brewing methods has earned them a strong reputation among locals and visitors alike for the past 20 years, which is why we recommend them to our guests when out-of-towners ask.” The brewery first opened its doors in 2003, but it wasn’t until 2010 that it moved to its current location in the Gulch. If you like a straightforward, solid beer, Yazoo may be the perfect fit; Olagundoye says the beer is “good and easy,” with “no pretense, [and] no frills.” His favorite? The Hop Perfect IPA.

Fait La Force Brewing

Rules are far and few between at Fait La Force Brewing . If you’re feeling peckish, you can order from their pub fare menu (think sausage rolls and Belgian frites), grab pizza from neighboring Il Forno, or bring your own food. Dogs are welcome, too. “The brewery outdoor space itself is a unique hang-out spot up on Chestnut Hill with a killer view of the downtown Nashville skyline,” says Margaritov. As far as beer offerings, you’ll find a variety on tap — everything from Italian-style pilsners to a Belgian-style saison.

Nashville Barrel Company prefers to lead guests on “experiences” rather than tours. For $25, you can swing by the distillery (no reservation necessary) for a flight from the tasting bar. The $50 Premium Tasting Experience includes a guided tour through some Nashville Barrel Company staples, as well as a few “surprise tastings.” If you want to go all out, reserve the Straight From the Barrel Experience. As a group of 12, you’ll sample from four different barrels, eventually picking your favorite and bringing a bottle of it home.

Blackstone Brewing Co.

Blackstone Brewing Co. claims the title of Nashville’s oldest brewery, with its roots dating back to 1994. Its taphouse, located just north of Midtown, has 16 beers on tap — which pair perfectly with the food offerings served out of the brewery’s 1989 Ford school bus (known as the “B-Stone Bus”). If you want to try the St. Charles Porter, Chaser Pale, or HopJack IPA, make sure to avoid Mondays, when both the taproom and bus are closed. 

Black Abbey Brewing Company

“ Black Abbey is the OG here and has my heart,” says Margaritov. “These guys were early homebrewers in the late ‘90s and became pioneers at the beginning of the craft beer renaissance, and they still make killer Belgian ales that are comparable, if not better, than some of the most revered Belgian breweries.” The Berry Hill brewery and taproom, known as Fellowship Hall, stick to the brand’s theme, nodding to the past at every touch point. Its seven handmade farmhouse tables harken back to bygone eras and provide plenty of space for visitors to bond over their beverages. Speaking of drinking, Black Abbey brews year-round, seasonal, and specialty beer. No matter when you visit, you can be sure to find its flagship beer, The Rose.

“While mead is not the traditional ‘spirit’ consumed in Nashville by any means, I thought Honeytree Meadery deserved to be on this list because [they] are true lovers and educators of their craft,” says Wyman. “A visit to Honeytree Meadery is an immersive experience, allowing guests to witness the harmony between local nature and sustainable craft firsthand.” The indoor-outdoor meadery focuses on sustainable practices, and it’s open to the public seven days a week — with a trivia night every Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Which Nashville stars should sing national anthem at Predators NHL playoffs? Our picks

The Nashville Predators are competing in the 2024 playoffs where they will be laying it all out on the line for the NHL's Stanley Cup. Now, they have an important consideration to ponder: What Nashville stars will sing the national anthem at the home playoff games?

Local stars have hit the ice since 2017 to sing to arenas of fans in a tradition that has become a top-secret Nashville musical surprise.

On Sunday, the Nashville Predators competed in the  NHL playoffs first-round  against the  Vancouver Canucks . Game 1 took place in Vancouver at Rogers Arena, where  the Predators lost to the Canucks . Game 2 will take place in Vancouver on Tuesday. 

Nashville will host Games 3, on April 26, and Game 4, on April 28, and if needed, Game 6 on April 30.

The Predators have not won a playoff series since the 2017-18 season, when they defeated the Colorado Avalanche in the first round.

This is the first meeting between the Canucks and Predators in the playoffs since Vancouver beat Nashville in six games in 2011.

Who has sung the national anthem at Predators games in the past?

The tradition began in 2017 when  the team asked Dennis K. Morgan , who routinely sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" during the team's regular season, to let some other celebs take the stage in his place for the playoffs.

Morgan was offended by the replacement and, midway through the playoffs, parted ways with the organization .

In 2017, some of the first stars to take the stage included Carrie Underwood, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Martina McBride, Little Big Town, Vince Gill, Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban and Kelly Clarkson.

Others to perform include the Oak Ridge Boys, Sheryl Crow, Lady A, Dierks Bentley and Del McCroury, Maren Morris, Brad Paisley and Rascal Flatts in 2018; Gavin DeGraw, Vince Gill and Big and Rich in 2019.

In 2021, Urban graced the ice again.

Who we think should sing the anthem at the Preds playoffs in 2024

This year, we think the Predators should bring some of Nashville's biggest and brightest stars to the ice again. But—which rising artists or industry vets would be the best picks for the honor?

Perhaps Bailey Zimmerman, Jordan Davis or Cody Johnson will sing for crowds at Bridgestone Arena this season. Maybe Vince Gill, a known Nashville Predators fans, will hit the stage again. Other Predators fans include artists Jason Aldean, Chase Rice and Martina McBride.

Singer-songwriter Harry Hudson recently moved to Nashville and has been an outspoken Predators fan as well.

Hudson, a cancer survivor , runs a non-profit called "Hey, I'm Here For You ." He even collaborated with the Preds to create merch in his charity's name . Maybe Hudson will hit the ice to perform this season.

But—we have some other ideas, too.

Here's The Tennessean's top five contenders to sing the national anthem this year.

Nashville's rock-country favorite, HARDY, would be a top pick for Nashville fans to see in the arena.

Best known for songs "TRUCK BED," "ONE BEER" and "GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL," HARDY has taken off over the past five years with his albums "A ROCK" and "the mockingbird & THE CROW." He most recently released a countrified cover of Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice."

Perhaps a gritty grunge-country version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" is in the cards this playoffs season.

4. Kings of Leon

The Nashville rock band Kings of Leon, known for hits "Sex on Fire," "Use Somebody" and "Closer," could bring a rock flare to the patriotic anthem.

The band released album "When You See Yourself" in 2021 and three songs from upcoming album "Can We Please Have Fun" on April 18. The band's new album, which was recorded in Nashville, will drop on May 10 .

The band will also head out on a world tour on Aug. 14, with a Nashville stop at Bridgestone Arena on Sept. 26.

The group's deep Nashville roots would make them a perfect pick to kick off a Predators playoff game.

3. Megan Moroney

One of country's up-and-coming stars, and a self proclaimed, "emo cowgirl," Megan Moroney is another one of our choices.

Best known for hits "Tennessee Orange and "I'm Not Pretty," Moroney released album "Lucky" last year. In March, she released two singles, "No Caller ID" and "28th of June." She's become a country awards show darling and garnered an ever-growing fanbase.

Wilson, whose hits "Watermelon Moonshine," "Heart Like A Truck" and "Things A Man Oughta Know" have garnered her a cult following, has become of the biggest voices in the country music scene.

After sweeping at the CMA Awards, winning a CMT Award, and becoming a top nominee for the ACM's this year, Wilson's star is shining bright.

It would be no surprise to see her represent Nashville on the ice this year.

Combs, one of country music's biggest stars, is playing two shows at American Family Field : One Friday and another Saturday. But ahead of that, he took a tour of the Miller Brewery . And, we got to tag along.

Yes, he was every bit as kindhearted, down-to-earth and genuine as he seems. And yes, he shotgunned a beer just like he does on stage. Except this time, he was hanging out on a brewhouse rooftop with the iconic giant red Miller sign and the Milwaukee Brewers' ballpark as his backdrop.

Not only did Combs — a longtime Miller Lite fan and years-long partner — see where the magic happens, he also checked out the specialty packaging on cases and cans that's coming out in honor of his blockbuster tour.

"It's just surreal, you know?" Combs told the Journal Sentinel. "I feel like I get to live so many amazing, surreal moments. And, I'm really thankful for that for sure. It's crazy. It's crazy."

Here's what we learned about Combs' tour and what he got into on the Miller tour. And, how about his eight Academy of Country Music Awards nominations that were announced earlier this week? We asked him about those, too.

A or A+ shows don't cut it for Combs. He's shooting for A++.

"I try to do everything I can do to take care of my voice, take care of myself, make sure that we're doing everything we can," Combs said. "People that come are the only reason we get to do what we do. Putting on an A++ show is really important to me."

About to embark on his 25-date stadium tour, he's excited — and "a little nervous."

"You feel like you're standing at the bottom of a mountain and you're looking at the top a little bit," he said.

But after last year's "Luke Combs World Tour," he said he feels more prepared for what's ahead of him.

"We've played everywhere all over the world," Combs said. "But, the Midwest, it feels like home to me. So, good place to start it."

Combs, who grew up in North Carolina, hadn't been anywhere close to Milwaukee when he started his music career — his first plane ride came at age 25. But, he remembers his earlier stops up here fondly.

He opened for Blake Shelton at Summerfest in 2018 and made an appearance at Farm Aid at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in 2019.

"The Midwest is like the best fans in the world," Combs said. "I mean, honestly. People probably say that all the time."

But, that doesn't mean pulling out of the driveway Tuesday night wasn't hard after the "amazing" time he spent with his "awesome" wife Nicole and their two sons — Tex and Beau — these past few months. Fortunately, he won't have to miss his other half too long. She'll be headed up this way this weekend.

What will always make it onto Combs' setlist this time around? "The songs that people would expect," Combs shared.

"Playing all the hits," he said. "That's why people are there, and I want to give them what they want."

But, each night of the tour will have a different vibe.

Combs' opening acts Friday — in the order they'll hit the stage — are the Wilder Blue, Charles Wesley Godwin and Cody Jinks.

"Friday's more in the Americana, singer-songwriter world," Combs said. "So, our set reflects that a little bit. But, obviously, still playing all the hits."

Saturday's openers will be Colby Acuff, Drew Parker, Mitchell Tenpenny and Jordan Davis.

"Saturday night is more mainstream, Top 40 country stuff, which is what I do, really," Combs said.

Combs loves watching Jinks and Davis perform — they keep him honest, he said — and he knows they're going to kick some you know what.

The first opener will start at 5:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with gates opening at 5 p.m.

The parking lots will open at 3 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Tailgating will be permitted. Give yourself plenty of time to drive in and get through security.

There also will be a "Bootleggers Tailgate Party" at 3 p.m. Saturday with two up-and-comers picked by Combs and Nashville-based concert series Whiskey Jam: Ryan Larkins and Graham Barham. It'll take place at Am Fam Field's Third Base Plaza, and will be free to attend for Combs concert ticketholders, with food and drinks available to purchase.

After getting into Milwaukee Wednesday morning, Combs hung out at the Brewers stadium for a couple of hours, worked out, then was off to the Miller Brewery.

How long has Combs been a fan of Miller Lite? "Forever, probably."

"My dad's been drinking it for a long time," Combs said. "It was always around the house."

If his music career never worked out, he said, he would still be sporting a Columbia fishing shirt and drinking a Miller Lite somewhere in the world.

"That's what I would be doing anyways," he said. "So, I really wanted to go after things that I was already passionate about that felt natural and authentic to me. So, I'm very thankful for (Molson Coors) being receptive to have me on board. I feel super lucky."

Sporting a Brewers Barrelman hat, Combs and his team walked into a conference room on the brewery's complex Wednesday. He was met by a small group of longtime brewery employees and other Molson Coors staffers. The beer cases and cans with his new specialty packaging were displayed on tables.

The design features a ribbon that says "Beer Never Broke My Heart" wrapped in between the tuning pegs of a guitar. Combs' name is at the top of the headstock.

After everyone went around the room introducing themselves, they were instructed to suit up in PPE — yellow safety vests, glasses, hard hats, toe caps and headsets.

On Combs' VIP tour of the brewery, he got a first-hand — and at times, hands-on — look at the operations with facts and history lessons along the way.

The first stop was a packaging plant, where Combs met machinist Jeff Malecki who has "But they ain't seen us together" from Combs' song "Forever After All" tattooed across his arm.

The two shook hands and got a picture together. That would become a reoccurring scene throughout Combs' visit.

It seemed like every employee who crossed paths with Combs received a handshake. And, if they wanted a photo or autograph, they got those, too, without any hesitation.

In the warehouse, Combs saw cases with the specialty packaging sliding out of a machine — he pulled his phone out to document that — and stacks of those cases getting carried off on a pallet via forklift.

At one point, Combs stood in front of what looked like a mountain of the cases. "Get this one," he said to a photographer as he hugged the cases as far as his arms would stretch.

Later, he'd get to snag one of the cans right off of a quick-moving line.

He got a taste of that and a few different brewery roles, including one that involved flipping a cardboard box filled with unconstructed cases into place. A few cases snuck out the back, but not too shabby for a first-timer.

"Thanks for letting me do that," Combs said to the workers as he shook their hands. "Thanks for letting me be in the way."

Combs also tried his hand at adding hops, one of which was liquid. "Have y'all seen 'Superbad'?" Combs asked with a bucket of hops in hand.

It reminded him of the scene when McLovin was trying to buy booze at a liquor store and said to the cashier: "You know, I heard they recently decided to add more hops to it."

Toward the conclusion of the tour, Combs said he had a "truly amazing" time. But, his favorite part had to be the grand finale.

He got to go up on a brewhouse rooftop with striking views of the city, the home of the Brewers and that big red Miller sign.

Up there is where he shotgunned a beer in under 5 seconds, and had the honor of sampling an exclusive maturation stock that not many get to try.

"To be standing up here is really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Combs said.

How about those eight ACM Awards nominations

The 59th Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were announced earlier this week. Combs leads the nominations with eight , including entertainer of the year, male artist of the year, album of the year, song of the year, single of the year and music event of the year.

"It's really awesome," he said. "Always surprising, I think ... In a lot of ways, it feels like I've been doing this a lifetime. And, in a lot of ways, I feel like I've been doing it for six months. So, I feel like sometimes I'm so conflicted with knowing what to feel or think ... It's an honor. It's my wildest dreams coming true. So, I'm a very lucky guy every day."

A 2024 win via Combs nomination for entertainer of the year would clinch the coveted triple crown award, which consists of an entertainer of the year win plus wins in an act's respective new artist (male, female, duo, or group) and artist (male, female, duo or group) categories, a USA TODAY report said.

The event will air on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch live from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, on May 16.
