Trail description
This ride along route 232 begins at the Hahnenkamm car park startet in Kitzbühel and initially leads along the Hahnenkammstraße road and the Einsiedelweg road to the settlement of Schattberg. It is there that the twisting and turning ascent begins on a forest road, leading up past the Berggasthof Einsiedelei onto the Hahnenkamm mountain. Following the banks of the Ehrenbach stream, riders continue for around 6 kilometres up to 1,480 metres above sea level, where they turn off to the right just before reaching the Melkalm hut. The next section leads through open pastures and meadows towards the top of the Hahnenkammbahn cable car. After 1.5 kilometres, turn left towards "Ehrenbachhöhe" and ride past the Hahnenkammstüberl and Berghaus Tyrol buildings as well as the reservoir. The route then heads gently downhill in a southerly direction to the Hochbrunn-Alm hut. Just before you reach the hut, there is an uphill section. Follow the switchbacks to the Jufenkamm ridge. Shortly after passing the Brunn reservoir you will reach the summit of the Pengelstein mountain at 1,938 metres above sea level.
Retour die selbe Strecke radeln.

Starting in Kirchberg, we follow the signpost of the MTB route no. 204 (Unterer Grund). Along the Aschauer Ache river the asphalt and gravel path leads to Aschau, and further through the Untere Grund valley, past the Kloo Mountain Hut, to the junction at the Rakstatt Mountain Hut (1,290 m a.s.l.). Up to here we have managed 460 m in altitude on a 12.5 km stretch, the gentle ascent had become a little steeper from Aschau on. Now we change the driving direction and turn onto the Aschau High Route (no. 205), it is an almost flat (with a few short climbs) 6.5 km long section to the junction before the Hieslegg Mountain Hut (1,450 m a.s.l.) towards north.
There we turn into the forest path Usterkar, part of the Pengelstein Route (no. 285). Now the trail climbs steeply (12% gradient) up to the Gauxer Mountain Hut and to the Hieslegg mountain station at 1,900 m a.s.l. After almost 4 hours we have now reached the final altitude, and on an almost flat section we reach the Pengelstein Restaurant, where we take a break. Via the MTB route no. 232 we continue to the Jufenkamm ridge, the Ehrenbachhöhe and the Hahnenkamm tavern, where the beautiful downhill ride to Kitzbühel starts. Arrived in the town, we cycle back to Kirchberg on the cycle path. We have chosen Kirchberg as the starting point, but Kitzbühel is equally suitable.
- Starting point: Kirchberg in Tirol, Gaisberg valley station
- Time required: 05:30 h
- Track length: 46,2 km
- Altitude: from 758 m to 1.930 m
- Altitude difference : +1260 m | -1260 m

Fabio Wibmer rides the Hahnenkamm
- January 18, 2024 January 18, 2024
Austrian freestyle mountain bike phenomenon Fabio Wibmer makes the fearsome Streif ski piste his playground for a jaw-dropping world-first descent unlike anything ever seen before.
In a video impossible to only watch once, Fabio Wibmer played out his childhood dream for his latest spectacular project ‘Fabio Wibmer – The Streif’ as put his own creative twist on the biggest downhill ski race in the world – the Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel, Austria.
“I’ve always had the vision to ride down the Streif on a bike,” said Wibmer. “It has a special connection to me, and it’s always been a big dream. The fact that it came to life is very special.”
Filmed just an hour from where he grew up, Wibmer combined mountain biking with skiing to conquer the Streif’s most iconic spots during a unique freestyle descent that saw him reach a maximum speed of 107km/h and land multiple jumps including ones of 14m in height and 36m in length.
It’s not enough for Wibmer to just ride the course. He starts his ride with a backflip from the start gate, and, does a wall ride along the Ausfahrt-Steilhang section of the course.
“I think the biggest Streif moment for me as a kid was seeing Bode Miller doing almost a wall ride in 2008 as he was going so fast he missed the corner,” Wibmer added. “It had a huge impact on me and that’s where this idea came from as I wanted to get the same feeling he had, but with me on a bike.”
Wibmer and his team had to modify his Canyon Torque bike to combat the effects of the ice. The biggest change was attaching 576 spikes to his Pirelli Scorpion tires on both the front and back wheels.
