What do you want to know, being more specific?
Amazon jungle lodges cater to all sorts of travelers' expectations about the rainforest: bountiful fishing, waking up to the chattering of monkeys and etc...if u have a change u can get 4 or 5 days tour.
If it is your only chance in life, go to Amazon!!
I believe many/most tourists might not find the Amazon of their imaginings outside of Manaus, so the Pantanal, which has more possibilities for animal/bird sightings, might be a better choice. If you can afford to do the north with a good guide experienced in finding jaguars, so much the better. More budget trips leave from the south.
You could also look into taking an overnight bus (6-7 hrs from Salvador ) to Lencois in the Chapada Diamantina for some hiking to waterfalls for a couple of days. very pretty part of the country. Google for photos and more info.
If you like rural areas, take the ferry (45 min) from Salvador over to Itaparica island and walk the beaches there. (Stop in at the vast Sao Joaquin open air market on the way to the boat.)
Or do 2-3 days in Morro do Sao Paulo (the outer beaches are sprarsely populated, even if the village may be a bit crowded because of Brazilians on holiday), with a Boipeba day trip.
A friend and I did the Pantanal and the Amazon last year and I have to agree with tcanterelli. You see much more in the way of animal life in the Pantanal. Ananconda, capivara?, lots of birds, cayman. The Amazon was more about the place, the Amazon, than about wildlife. It was more about the plants and rivers. Both are equally amazing, I wouldn't want to have to choose!
how much time did you have at each place? we sometimes try to squash too much in a trip! which tour groups did you use? Thanks!
For the Amazon, we booked this ourselves and used a company called Amazon Gero Tours. We spent 4 nights/3 days here and For me this was just right. Any shorter and I think it would feel rushed.
