I was told that the drive was 1 hour. The drive ended up being double that— the bus driver made multiple stops for pick up. I know this is standard, and would be fine if i had not specifically asked the sales rep. about this at the time of booking. This is especially troubling because my family is traveling with three kids. I’m unhappy and dissatisfied. RIU needs to cut ties with this company. I will never use this company again. We loved the Mayan village, traditional meal and cenote. Fabulous memories made. It’s a long way. Be prepared for an early start and a good snooze on the coach. • Twitsy 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Long day The pick up from our hotel (Royalton) 6.30am then drove for an hour to a garage to meet other mini buses, tour guides and a passenger. Then driven for another hr to a hotel for coffee and put sun lotion bug spray on. Then driven another hr to the dock. Then onto a small fishing boat takes you to a small island that has flamingos,pelicans etc. get off the boat for about 20 mins. Then back on the boat round to pinto mosquito to see a bird reservoir which really wasn’t a lotto see or do and you are there for about 45 mins. Then back on the boat to hol box. There you have an hour to walk around on your own time.! Meet up in the square get on buggies that look and feel they are breaking down. Travel on them for 10 mins to a hotel for lunch and your able to use the hotel facilities. The food was awful. Beach area beautiful. We where there for 3 HOURS! Then back on the buggies go round the block. Really don’t understand the buggy but cause we didn’t go anywhere we could have walked to the hotel? Then onto a ferry back to the main island to meet up with minibuses again. Then a 1 hour drive to meet up with other mini buses tour guide gets off and one passenger. Then a 2 1/2 hr drive. My trip was booked 4 hours before my flight which I told them I needed a later one. Aldrin Torres from Destination Services told me to call my hotel since they arranged my trip back. Once I spoke with the hotel, they told me Destination Services handles the schedule and to talk to them again. Once I got back to Aldrin to attempt to change my transportation, he gave me a different story and a number to call, and told me that there was only one transport to the airport that day, which is a complete lie. This review was based on the airport transfer service I had for my booking with Riu Palace Las Americas. Arriving the trip was fine though it was pretty difficult to identify destination services among all the other transportation services outside the airport. The driver taking us was friendly and helpful. However, the nightmare started during the return trip. Our "agent" Sergio didn't make me and my friend feel secure that our return transportation to the airport was confirmed. My friend and I had different flights and therefore we needed to separate transportation (which he managed to arrange). My friends flight left at 8am and they were trying to pick her up at 3:55am (which she didn't agree with). My flight left at 2:45pm and my transportation was scheduled for 11:30am. My friend ended up taking a different service to the airport but I stayed with Destination services. My transportation came 20 minutes late and dropped me off at the wrong terminal. Because the correct terminal was a 20 minute walk away, I was forced to pay a taxi an additional 30 usd to make my flight. I feel that because my friend and I didn't book an excursion through their agent, we were treated as second class customers. In addition, that number on the bottom of your confirmation email will only work one time. After that the number will no longer work. I even went back to Sergio to ask for a number to call when my transportation was late and he apparently didn't have one to give.
