April 21, 2022 at 1:38 pm

We are a group of seniors starting from Clark/Angeles City. I wanted to know the relative locations of (1) Puning Hot Springs (2) Where does the route of 4×4 jeep ride to Puning Hot Springs mentioned above start? (3) Where does the route of doing a hike to the Mt. Pinotubo crater lake start if we do a 4×4 drop off to the mid point? We have some who want to hike the 2 hour one-way hike, and those who would not like to do so due to age. Is it feasible to plan (a) Group 1 does Mt. Pinatubo short hike (4 hour two way) with 4×4 drop off and then go to Puning Hot Springs for a dip in the thermal pool and sand spa – how much comfortable time to provide for the tour?; and (b) Group 2 does 4×4 4×4 jeep ride to Puning Hot Springs and spends the day in Puning Hot Springs (thermal pool dips, spa, food and cultural show? We are visiting in November 2022. Thanks in advance.

Hey Anand, they are in different locations/provinces. The jump-off to Puning Hot Springs is in Brgy. Sapang Bato, Angeles City, Pampanga while the jump-off to the Mt. Pinatubo Crater trek is in Capas, Tarlac. I suggest to do them in separate days.

We are arriving in Cebu Mar 15 @ 1am (staying 2 days) to do canyoneering. I want to go to El Nido (doing tour A & C) and maybe glamping in Nacpan and Boracay. We are departing from CRK Mar 28 late night. In what order should we travel? Do we have time to fit another island? Blue water and some activities are our interests.

February 28, 2024 at 9:22 pm

I suggest you do the island hopping first in Palawan and then go to Boracay to do more relaxed activities. If you’re departing from Cebu Airport, you can go on a day or overnight trip to Panglao & Bohol.

It feels good to make someone smile in the morning.

An Aeta vendor couldn’t contain her happiness when I and a fellow travel blogger bought her kamote , a root-crop that she was selling. I remember her bright smile, then she told us that it was her “buena mano” or her very first sale that day. When she left, I continued looking at her. She went on the other side of the road where a lot more of her root-crops can be found. I saw her pulling out the money from us, and spread it lightly touching all the remaining kamote .  That made me smile.

I was loving Clark, Pampanga so far, our first day of familiarization tour sponsored by DOT Region 3. I enjoyed our morning coffee and bread, and I also liked what I was seeing – a fusion of nature and some buildings. Clark, Pampanga is a delight to explore.

After our satisfying coffee, we were off to our first stop, The Clark Museum and 4D Theater.

1. Clark Museum and 4D Theatre

Clark Pampanga

Each of us was given 4D eyeglasses when we entered the Theater. It was such an interactive experience as we watched a film about Clark, Pampanga’s history. Our chairs moved and some sprinkle of water came out at the top part of the theater as the story of Clark was presented focusing on how it all started until the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.

How the unfortunate calamity destroyed Clark, how it rebuilt itself from the ashes to a fast-rising tourist destination that it is today.

I learned a lot about the history of Clark, and I can personally relate to the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. We were living in Taguig then, far away from Mt. Pinatubo, but I remember waking up as a kid and I saw our place and our home’s roof filled with ashes. Imagine the magnitude of its destruction to the people living near the eruption?

Our tour followed by exploring the Clark’s Museum. It’s a huge collection of Clark’s history, culture, and traditions. The museum is composed of 4 galleries, each depicting important aspects of Pampanga’s heritage.

Clark Pampanga

Where is Clark, Pampanga?

Clark Pampanga

Creativity at its finest.

Gallery One is all about the geological and geographical context of Clark. Where it is located featuring the rich nature that surrounds it like mountains of Arayat and Pinatubo. The second gallery focuses on people of Pampanga and Central Luzon, their way of life and also the trade and industry that reflected their traditions and natural resources.

Clark Pampanga

Traditions.

Gallery 3 is all about the history of Clark Air Field and how it has affected the lives of its people. While the 4th gallery features Clark that has risen from the ashes, the modern and rising tourism and business destination that it is today, the Clark Freeport Zone.

Clark Pampanga

While traveling to our next destination, it was also a chance for us to know more about Clark. Our tour guide explained every detail of places that we passed through like the barn houses, historical offices, and others. She grew up in Clark, so she shared a lot of interesting stories of her childhood. I really enjoyed it.

2. Clark Sun Valley Resort and Country Club

Our next stop is Clark Sun Valley Resort and Country Club, one of the highest points in Clark, Pampanga.

It’s a premier resort and real estate development with residential areas perfect for those who want a home overlooking nature. It’s just amazing how a huge golf course was also built going up the hill. But I can say that the best part is the spectacular view of the mountains and river from the resort, an awesome way to chill.

3. Hansa Creation (Toy International Philippines)

Probably one of the most interesting spots we visited is Hansa, a company located in Clark that creates real-life looking stuffed animals handmade by Filipino workers.

This is one of the pioneering investors in Clark economic zone, and most of its products are exported abroad. One staff from the company shared that the tiger used in the movie, Life of Pi, was created by Hansa. Also, they’re the preferred suppliers by Zoos and Wild Life Parks in the world

Hansa Clark Pampanga

The company has viewing or exhibition rooms that showcase their products, real-life looking animals such as bears, snakes, dogs, penguins and a lot more. We had a chance to explore these rooms and we were all delighted with those real-life looking animals! I was particularly amazed at how they were able to create these, it takes a lot of dedication and attention to details.

4. Nayong Pilipino

Nayong Pilipino Clark Pampanga

I remember experiencing Nayong Pilipino when it was still located in Paranaque, years ago. But since it was transferred to Clark, this was my first time visiting it. Nayong Pilipino is a 45-acre theme park environment showcasing typical Filipino villages, cultures, and traditions. It is like traveling the entire country in one place. It’s like a miniature representation of anything about the Philippines and its rich culture.

The place is divided through different regions in the country like the Cordillera region, Ilocos regions, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Nayong Pilipino Clark Pampanga

We entered a theater and watched a cultural presentation. It was a delight to watch talented and young Pinoys perform our very own songs and dances. It’s a great way to spread awareness of our unique culture which admittedly is slowly declining especially among the younger generations. The street parade is also something that you shouldn’t miss when you visit Nayong Pilipino.

Entrance Fee: Adult – P 150 Senior – P 120 Children – P 100

5. Aqua Planet

Clark Pampanga

Though Aqua Planet is still not yet open to the public, we were given access to this promising water park. Watch out for their official opening and launch in 2018. It will be announced on their website and social media accounts.

6. Commercio Centrale

Clark Pampanga

We capped off our day by celebrating the launch of “Commercio Centrale” , a lifestyle weekend market at the Parade Grounds of Clark Freeport Zone.

Commercio Centrale showcases food and culture that will be more focused on Kapampangan traditions. Though we saw some commercialized food stalls there and some international cuisines, we still felt the celebrations that is uniquely Filipino. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Governor Lilia Pineda. We even had a chance to chat with them.

Clark Pampanga

Later that night, more food was served! There were also some performers.  It was a night filled with smiles and celebration. It was a nice experience and a privilege to be able to celebrate Tourism and Kapampangan culture in one awesome day.

Nayong Pilipino

“Bring Home A Friend”

The entire program was in line with the national campaign of the Department of Tourism dubbed as “Bring Home A Friend.”

It is a national campaign of DOT to make 2018 the homecoming year of Pinoys and their friends abroad. Bringing home a friend to the Philippines is not just a way to share our rich culture, it is also a chance to win exciting prizes. Yes, you read it right. Just bring home a friend from abroad, join the campaign and get a chance to win some awesome prizes!

Mechanics and ways to join can be found here, Bring Home A Friend.

It was a day filled with excitement and learning more about Clark Pampanga. All the tourist spots that we visited from the Nayong Pilipino to Comercio Centrale are meant to create an impact that will make visitors come back to Pampanga, come back to the Philippines.

CLARK & ANGELES CITY: Travel Guide & Budget Itinerary

CLARK & ANGELES CITY: Travel Guide & Budget Itinerary

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

As a traveler based in the Philippines, Clark is something that I hear all the time. The Clark International Airport is the fastest growing airport in the country, the second busiest in Luzon, and the secondary gateway to Metro Manila. But for many travelers, that’s all Clark is: a gateway. Many overlook the fact that Clark itself and its surrounding areas are a destination on its own.

Clark has changed over the years but it retains its unassuming characteristic — still systematic and laid-back amid the many developments that happened. It has established itself as a center for aviation and business. It is being groomed as an integral economic hub in Central Luzon. With the presence of a significant number of educational, recreational, and entertainment establishments, Clark is getting ready for the next big step, which includes the development of Clark Global City.

I was fortunate to participate in the annual Lakbay Norte tour spearheaded by the North Philippines Visitors Bureau (NPVB) in partnership with NLEX Corporation. Clark was one of the destinations included in the itinerary. This trip was also made possible with the help of the Greater Clark Visitors Bureau (GCVB).

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

UNDERSTANDING CLARK

The Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone, commonly referred to as simply “Clark”, covers not only the province of Pampanga but also Tarlac. It includes Angeles City, Mabalacat City, and Porac in Pampanga and Capas and Bamban in Tarlac. There are two zones: the Clark Freeport Zone and the Clark Special Economic Zone.

The Clark Freeport Zone encompasses the former US air force base, the Clark Air Base, which was transformed into a special economic zone in the early 90s. At present, the Clark Freeport Zone is continuously expanding. The launch of the Clark International Airport put Central Luzon on the tourism map, making it more accessible both locally and internationally.

The Clark Special Economic Zone includes the future New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac. The project is managed by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

Here are more things you need to know about Clark:

  • Language: The province of Pampanga has two primary languages — Kapampangan and Sambal. Tagalog and English are also spoken by most of the people as secondary languages.
  • Currency: Philippine peso (PHP, ₱). PHP100 is around USD 1.91, EUR 1.69, SGD 2.59 (as of February 2019).
  • Modes of payment: CASH is preferred. Credit card payments are widely accepted, especially in commercial areas. If you are going outside the urban zones, ensure that you have an ample amount of cash with you.
  • Connectivity: Business ditricts have strong data signals for Globe and Smart.
  • Electricity Info: 220V, 60Hz. Mostly, Socket Type A.

Note: This travel guide will focus more on the Pampanga side.

BEST TIME TO VISIT CLARK

As a tropical country, the Philippines has two seasons — the dry season and wet (rainy) season. The rainy season usually begins in July and can last until October. The rest of the year normally constitutes the dry season with April and May as the peak of summer.

You may also want to take note of these festivals and events. Expect huge crowds during these times.

  • February: Philippine International Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta (Clark Field, Angeles), Caragan Festival (Mabalacat), Nuestra Señora de la Divina Gracia (Mabalacat)
  • April: Sisig Festival (Angeles)
  • September: San Lorenzo Ruiz Feast (Mabalacat)
  • October: Fiestang Kuliat in Angeles (Fiesta de los Santos Angeles Custodios, The Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of La Naval, and Fiesta ning Apung Mamacalulu), Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan (Angeles)
  • November: Feast of Santa Catalina Alexandria (Porac)

HOW TO GET TO CLARK

Clark International Airport (CIA) is located in Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga. It is the primary gateway to Central and North Luzon for both international and domestic flights. It also serves as the second international gateway to Metro Manila. North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) link CIA to Metro Manila.

MANILA TO CLARK BY CAR

Option 1: Via NLEX. If you want to travel at your own pace by bringing your car, you can drive along the length of NLEX until you reach Dau Exit. Pay the toll and make a left turn going to Angeles City. Continue driving until you reach the point where you should make a right turn going to Clark. This option is perfect for those who like to make a stopover at Angeles City.

Option 2: Via NLEX-SCTEX. From NLEX, continue driving until you reach the exit leading to SCTEX. Decide the best road option for you based on your itinerary: Clark South (Exit) Interchange is located near the Clark Main Gate, while Clark North (Exit) Interchange is near Nayong Pilipino.

The good thing about bringing your own car is that you can do stopover and restroom breaks whenever you need to. In our case, we went further north to have our breakfast at PTT Station’s Café Amazon along SCTEX northbound lane in Bamban, Tarlac. But the interesting part aside from the drinks (try the Iced Thai Milk Tea) and the pastries (I love the Mango Torte and Revel Bar) is PTT’s Restroom 20.

clark air base tourist spots

The restroom is solar-powered and works like a paid restroom lounge. As the name suggests, guests using the restroom donate P20. All proceeds will be donated to different organizations that can help the communities where they operate.

MANILA TO CLARK BY REGULAR BUS

As mentioned, North Luzon is connected to Manila by NLEX and SCTEX. Land travel usually takes 2-3 hours, depending on the traffic condition.

clark air base tourist spots

Many buses shuttle passengers between Manila and North Luzon daily. One of the most prominent name when it comes to trips to the north is Victory Liner.

  • From Cubao or Pasay terminal, take a Dagupan-bound bus.
  • Alight at Dau-Mabalacat Bus Terminal in Pampanga.
  • Take a short walk to MacArthur Highway. From there, you can either take the jeepney or hire a tricycle.
  • The jeepney or the tricycle can get you directly to the Clark Gate.
  • Ride a jeepney or take a taxi to your hotel or to the attraction you want to visit.

MANILA TO CLARK BY P2P BUS

There are P2P buses that serve the Metro Manila-Clark Airport route. One of them is Genesis Bus.

We created a more detailed post here: P2P BUS CLARK & MANILA: Schedule, Stops & Fares

SUBIC TO CLARK BY P2P BUS

HOW TO GET AROUND CLARK AND ANGELES

  • Taxi/Cab. This is the most convenient option because they can shuttle guests to, from, and within Clark. They can get you directly to your hotels or the tourist attractions.
  • Jeepney. Public jeepneys operate within Clark Freeport too. As of writing, there are four different jeepney routes operating within Clark Freeport Zone. Ask the drivers at the terminal (Main Gate) which jeepney to take. Note: There are two terminal locations — Main Gate and the Mabalacat Gate.
  • Tricycle. In Angeles City, tricycle may be the cheaper and more convenient option for short-distance transit. You may also negotiate with the driver if you want a special trip. However, tricycles are NOT ALLOWED inside Clark Freeport Zone. They can only go as far as the Main Gate (along Fields Avenue). From there, you can just walk to the jeepney terminal and get on a jeep to get you around CFZ.
  • Grabtrike. Grabtrike is now available in Angeles City. There are three different zones covered by Grabtrike: Zone 1 (Pulung Maragul, Balibago, Cutud, Pulung Cacutud, and Sapa Libutad); Zone 2 (Pandan, Marisol, Tabun, Capaya, Mining, Salapung, Lourdes Sur East, and half of Sto. THINGS TO DO IN CLARK AND ANGELES CITY

Angeles heritage park.

Angeles City is not only home to many historical sites but also modern business establishments and other industries. The marrying of the old an new is very apparent especially in the Heritage District where the Santo Rosario Church and Museo ning Angeles are centrally located.

Just two blocks away from the museum and the church is the Old Pamintuan Mansion. Built in the early 1880s, the Pamintuan residence has a lot of stories to tell. It became the seat of government during the time of the First Philippine Republic under the rule of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. It also served as the municipal hall of Angeles City and later on, the branch of Bangko Central ng Pilipinas in Central Luzon until 2010. At present, the mansion serves as the Museum of Philippine Social History.

Tibby’s Farm

clark air base tourist spots

I’ve always been interested in farming. In fact, I used to co-own a farm in Quezon, but that’s another story. The Philippines has numerous arable lands, which makes agriculture a major source of income for so many provinces. Still, we import farm products like rice and other vegetables from our neighboring countries.

One of the aims of Tibby’s Farm is to raise awareness of the importance of farming to the community and our country. This organic farm is also open to train and educate future farmers, even encouraging young ones to invest in agriculture. As part of its agri-tourism feature, guests can try their hands on harvesting vegetables and fruits in season and feeding livestock.

Aqua Planet

clark air base tourist spots

With a total area of 10 hectares, Aqua Planet is currently the largest waterpark in the Philippines. It features over 38 water slides and other rides and attractions, promising a #WatermazingExperience for all its guests, children and adults alike.

clark air base tourist spots

The attractions are grouped into two zones — the Kiddie Zone and Zone 1 (Adult Zone). The Kiddie Zone has three awesome options for the young ones: Mermaid Bay, Orc Lagoon, and Bubble Base: Kiddie Wave Pool. For adults, there are 11 attractions: Spiral Slides, Octopus Racers, Aqua Loop, Wave River, Hurricane Slides. Super Bowl, Sky Shuttle, Wave Pool, Boogie Bay, Flow Rider, and Tornado. I enjoyed the Octopus Racers, Tornado, and Sky Shuttle. I wanted to try Aqua Loop but we arrived late, so I didn’t get to try it.

Admission Fee: Weekday Rates (P950 adult, P750 child (4ft and below); Weekend Rates (P1180 adult, P980 child (4ft and below) Operation Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Location: Bounded by J.P. Rizal Avenue, J.P Laurel Avenue, and Prince Balagtas Avenue, Clark Freeport Zone, Mabalacat, Pampanga How to Get There: Ride a Victory Liner bus from either Cubao or Pasay to Dau Bus Terminal. From here, you can book a Grab to Aqua Planet. The total fare is P300-350. The travel duration is two to three hours.

El Kabayo Clark Stables Picnic Grounds

clark air base tourist spots

This reminds me of the old western movies I watched in one (or two) of my film classes in UP Film Institute years ago. Not too long ago. Haha! It boasts a replica of an old western town that elicits a rough cowboy feel. You know that typical saloon commotion scene? That one.

It won’t be called El Kabayo without the horses right? Here you can enjoy horseback riding (guided or not), carriage ride, trail ride, and even riding lessons. The duration depends on you, but they usually offer two – 30 minutes and 60 minutes. They can also accommodate team building events and conferences. The newest feature is the campsite with glamping facilities. This is one sure site for those who like to experience the best of both worlds — the thrill of camping and the convenience of hotel amenities.

clark air base tourist spots

To complete the wild wild west feel, you might want to try the food at Amante Ribs and Steaks located within the El Kabayo complex. Restaurant hours are 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM and 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM.

Rates: P4500 (adults); P2500 (kids); FREE (infants – 2 y/o). Note: These rates are applicable for a minimum of 10 pax. Inclusions are glamping set up, dinner, grazing table, bonfire with marshmallow, archery, breakfast, horseback ride, and carriage ride. Note: As this is a newly-launched feature, the package is still in the beta stage. More options to come! For now, you may contact the management for a personalized or customized set up. The travel time is about three hours.

Nayong Pilipino

Clark is the new home of the iconic Nayong Pilipino, an educational open-air museum or theme park that showcases the various prominent landmarks of the Philippines and the Filipino cultural heritage. It gives you a sneak peek of what the Philippines is, both as a county and as a nation. Nayong Pilipino is like a diorama of the Philippines.

Entrance Fee: P150 (adult); P100 (child); P120 (senior citizen) Operation Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Location: Centennial Road, Clark Field, Mabalacat, Pampanga How to Get There: From Pasay or Cubao, ride a Victory Liner bus to Dau Bus Terminal. Walk towards the highway and hail a jeep bound for SM Clark or Clark Main Gate. From the Main Gate terminal, take a Route 1 jeepney and alight at Parkson Duty Free. From here, you can take a short walk to Nayong Pilipino. The total fare is P300-350. The travel time is about three hours.

Dinner in the Dark

clark air base tourist spots

More than the curiosity, what makes “Dinner in the Dark” interesting is the cause behind the unique dining experience. It will make you appreciate your sense of sight more after you experience eating in total darkness. This event is for the benefit of the Blind Foundations in the Philippines. You might need to contact the management for the schedule and reservation.

OTHER CLARK TIPS FOR THE POOR TRAVELER

  • Leave nothing but footprints. As always, make it a habit to clean up and take everything that you brought with you when you leave the place. Dispose of your trash properly.
  • Practice sustainable tourism. Help the community by buying local products and bringing your own water bottle and dry bags (or eco bags) instead of buying plastic bottled drinks and plastic bags.
  • Learn some Kapampangan phrases. Although they can perfectly understand and speak Tagalog, learning simple phrases like “dakal a salamat” (thank you very much), “ali” (no), and “wa” (yes) goes a long way. They will appreciate the effort.

This is so informative, especially with Tibby’s Farm. I like the relaxing vibe of nature and will definitely stay for a night or two. Aside from that, I want my kids to know about organic farming. Kids nowadays need to be more aware of healthy eating as early as possible.

Information about Parade Ground

Parade ground.

Parade ground in Clark Pampanga

Clark Parade Ground's previous name is Fort Stotensburg, named after Colonel John M. Stotsenburg. He is a captain of the 6th US Calvary who died in action while leading his regiment in a battle with Filipino revolutionaries in April 1899. His entrance pillars still stand here, too.

Today, Parade Ground serves as a park for families to enjoy. A newly rubberized jogging path that's 2.2 kilometers long was also built here. With this, fun runs and obstacle games are usually organized here. The park has updated amenities also like improved public restrooms and free internet wifi connectivity.

Parade ground is located inside the massive clark air base. it used to be a us military facility during world war ii but is now under the management of the philippine air force. parade ground is one of the most visited places in clark air base, together with salakot (native hat) arch and four important markers near the iconic flagpole., the salakot arch is a symbolic landmark of philippines-united states friendship for years. it was originally built to symbolize the signing of the republic of the philippines and the united states military bases agreement that happened during the marcos administration., the death place of roxas marker was built to honor former president manuel a. roxas. he died of a heart attack after delivering a speech in kelly theater inside clark on april 15, 1948. still situated on the parade ground is the 26th cavalry memorial which commemorates the heroic deeds of the 26th cavalry scouts and the us army., another marker is the us army air corps and philippine air force monument which symbolizes the partnerships between the two military camps. the last memorial marker is probably the most important of all - the one that commemorates the turnover of clark air base from the us government to the philippine government..

Practical Travel Tips

  • Always check for updates. Some adjustments have to be taken for establishments and attractions to operate during the new normal. Don’t forget to contact or visit the official websites or Facebook pages of the attractions and activities for announcements and updates before going.
  • Leave no trace behind. Make sure to take everything that you brought with you when you leave a place and dispose of your trash properly.
  • Bring sun protection. The sun can be unforgiving sometimes, especially in summer. Don’t forget to bring a hat/cap and sunglasses or apply sunscreen.
  • Practice sustainable and responsible tourism. Bring your own reusable water bottle and dry bags or eco bags to avoid buying plastic bottled drinks and using plastic bags. Support the local community by buying their products.
  • Learn some Kapampangan phrases. Kapampangans can understand and speak Tagalog, but they will surely appreciate your effort when you learn simple Kapampangan phrases like “ali” (no), ‘wa” (yes), and “dakal a salamat” (thank you very much).
  • Follow the town’s rules and regulations. Make sure you know the travel safety protocols and requirements and follow them.

Clark Freeport (Clark Air Base), Pampanga Philippines Clark Freeport Zone Information, Import/Incentives – 11July21

HISTORY OF CLARK The Clark Freeport Zone, located next-door to Angeles City, Pampanga, in Central Luzon, is loaded with tourist spots and business opportunity. Formerly known as the Clark Special Economic Zone, this facility covers a massive 28,000 hectares of infrastructure formerly constructed by the United States in foregone days when the U.S. maintained a significant military presence in the Philippines; it was then known as Clark Air Base – the largest US air force facility outside of their country. CLARK TODAY Clark is currently being promoted as a major hub for the Asian operations of various medium-sized and large companies. The Clark Development Corp. (CDC) is responsible for managing and operating part of the Clark Freeport Zone spanning 2,200 hectares (out of its total territory of 4,400 hectares.) The other 2,200 hectares (which encompasses the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport) falls under the jurisdiction of CDC’s subsidiary Clark International Airport Corporation. INVESTMENTS DELUGE CLARK Over 400 foreign and domestic investors have relocated to or established first-time businesses in the zone. They have funneled more than $25 billion worth of investments into the Clark Freeport Zone since the CDC was formed in 1993. Investors operating within the zone were responsible for $1 billion in exports in 2006 alone. Clark Freeport Zone currently employs more than 55,000 residents of Bulacan, Tarlac and Pampanga, and serves as a vital economic engine for the region. TAX AND DUTY INCENTIVES The economic viability of the Clark Freeport Zone is improving additionally after President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed Executive Order 619 on April 16, 2007. This order provides for tax and duty incentives to duly-registered businesses that locate to “special economic zones” within the Philippines. These tax and duty incentives are the same as those previously available to investors under Republic Act 7916. Essentially, and with exceptions, companies that opt to relocate within the Freeport Zone are granted “generous” tax breaks by the Philippine government. Corporate income tax for such companies is equivalent to only 5% of their gross income. Also, capital equipment and raw materials can be imported duty free. 100% FOREIGN EQUITY IN ENTERPRISES Foreign investors (of any nationality) are now permitted to maintain 100% foreign equity in all areas of investment set up in the Philippines – provided such companies are neither financial institutions nor are indicated on the Foreign Investment Negative List. This development transpired after the foreign investments law was modified and liberalized. Furthermore, foreigners are now permitted to lease privately-owned lands from their Filipino owners for a maximum of 75 years, consisting of an initial lease period of 50 years, with an available extension of 25 years. BETTER THAN CHINA Texas Instruments senior vice president Kevin Ritchie revealed that his company bypassed other competitive Asian countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and China to build their new $1 billion manufacturing plant. This choice was in part due to the availability of a highly skilled and quality labor force and the willingness of the Philippines government to offer favorable tax and tariff incentives. The executive director of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines, Mr. Ernie Santiago, pointed-out that the choice of the Clark Freeport Zone proved that the overseas operations of American companies such as Texas Instruments need not automatically be relocated to the default choice of China. Santiago said the Philippines have the skilled workers and the capacity to offer the right incentives to draw in companies of this type. “What the Philippines now needs is to work on is its ability to promote the advantages of operating in the Philippines to foreign investors,” stated Santiago. NEW MEGAHIGHWAY IN CENTRAL LUZON The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) utilizing loans from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, has completed construction of a key transportation link named the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (also known as SCTex). This superhighway directly interconnects Subic Bay and Clark and further extends to the Central Techno Park in Tarlac to the north of Clark. Although initially, the sore point of the highway project amongst Clark locators was that fact that there was no direct entrance/exit in the Clark Freeport, as of December 23, 2008 the new 3.5 km North Interchange via the Panday Pira connecting Road has become operational. Additionally, the new Clark South interchange close to the Yokohama Tire facility and the Clark Airport is due to be completed on Feb. 14, 2009, thereby finishing the two interchanges within the Clark Freeport. With the completion of the main highway, this thoroughfare is helping Clark, Subic and nearby provinces become vitally-important participants in the government’s “Global Gateways Development Program” that aims to transform the Philippines into a globally competitive country. As a result, the Central Luzon region is projected to eventually become even more economically viable than Metro Manila, the nation’s capital. FIRST-CLASS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT The vast expanse of space and the existing U.S. military runways left behind at Clark has proved to be tremendous assets towards the conversion and further development of a world-class airport. The Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) occupies 2500 hectares, with two parallel runways each spanning 3.2 kilometers. This makes this international airport one of the largest in Asia in terms of runway size. Large and wide-bodied aircraft can be effortlessly accommodated at this facility. In fact, this site was chosen by Airbus as a designated stop for the test-phase of the largest aircraft in the world, the A-380. There is a newly remodeled and expanded terminal-1 in operation at Clark with terminal-2 construction project underway. This project has a completion date of March 31, 2010 with a P4 billion peso price tag and will enable Clark to handle an additional 3 million passengers per year. The Clark Airport is currently home to several Philippine-based and international budget airlines such as: Air Asia, Asian Spirit (now Zest Air), Asiana, Seaair, Tiger Airways and Cebu Pacific. There are direct flights to Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and soon, possibly some long-haul flights to Europe, the middle east and north America. DMIA is projected to eventually become the main international gateway for commercial aviation services in the Philippines. LEISURE AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES Clark is home to numerous budget and quality dining restaurants, bars and night spots. Whether you choose the simplicity of some fast food at McDonalds, a great Japanese buffet at Zen’s or go all-out at the high-quality of the Yat’s Club Grill Room in Mimosa, you’ll find ample food and beverage establishments in Clark. The many resorts include the popular Mimosa and Fontana Resorts and Country Clubs, known for there world-class golf courses. Visitors can choose to stay at a plethora of fine hotels/resorts including Holiday Inn Clark, Mimosa, Montevista or Fontana Villas, Hotel Stotsenberg, Oxford Hotel, Hotel Vida, Lohas Hotel, Asiana Greenville Villas or the affordable Clark Hostel – all located within the Zone. For those who are feeling adventurous, they can avail themselves of activities that raise their adrenaline-level, such as sky-diving, adventure trekking, off-road exploration, and an aerial visit to nearby dormant volcano Mt. Pinatubo for those daring enough to venture outside the Zone. The Clark Zone also showcases Fontana’s water theme park, Nayong Pilipino cultural park, El Cabayo horse riding stables, 3 casinos and a new world-class quarter mile drag strip. Those who wish to simply enjoy their leisure time within Clark may opt to spend the day shopping by patronizing any of the many duty free shops or the large, big-city-style SM Clark Mall inside its boundaries. Visit Our New Clark Travel Guide EXPAT RESIDENTIAL AND RETIREMENT HAVEN In 2008, new, upper-scale residential housing projects have begun to take shape in Clark. Master-planned communities with mid to high-end condos and separate detached housing units are seen in several quiet, serene locations throughout the Freeport. Many of these communities will offer the fully-integrated housing/shopping environment with luxurious clubhouses and security facilities to satisfy the lifestyle of westerners and those from fully-developed counties. UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES SETS UP SHOP IN CLARK For the future students in and around the Clark Freeport Zone, residents, prospective employees and corporate leaders, there is good news on the horizon. The University of the Philippines – Pampanga (or U.P. Pampanga) has broken ground on a new site located within the boundaries of the Clark Freeport Zone. This site will house the permanent facilities of the U.P. Pampanga Extension program. The designated area for this campus is within the future-planned “University Town” master-planned project that will occupy a total of 3.28 hectares. The Philippine Congress has earmarked PHP 50 million for the project which is expected to help U.P. create a high-tech window to global education in Central Luzon. CLARK SCORES HIGH IN ICT AND CALL CENTER FIELD Two Philippine government agencies – the Department of Trade and Industry and the Commission on Information and Communications Technology recently gave high marks to Clark Freeport Zone in regards to its capacity to host information and communication technology activities and specifically call centers. The Freeport Zone scored 9.23 out of 10 since it meets a majority of the vital requisites demanded by information and communication technology locators. Such requisites are the existence of incentives, vendor support, telecommunication facilities (including dual, redundant pipeline internet), real estate, power and transport infrastructure, and support from local government units and the community. Other important points that helped the Clark Freeport Zone earn such high marks are its quality of life and the presence of relevant manpower needed for these industries to flourish. RELOCATE TO BERTHAPHIL BUSINESS PARK For investors who are not sure where to relocate their operations within the Clark Freeport Zone, they may want to look into the Berthaphil Business Park which is the site of 3 separate facilities: “ an integrated IT/housing/commercial campus. Berthaphil, which began operations in 1993, has been able to successfully provide office, warehouse and office space – and customized Information Technology facilities – to 25 major companies from various countries. Rolls Royce Helicopter Engines of the UK, H3 Electronics of Germany, Easton Garment of Taiwan, Meisei Electronics of Japan, and EPIXTAR of the US are just some of the satisfied clients currently housed in Berthaphil facilities. Berthaphil has joined forces with the COMFAC Global Group to provide a lend-lease program to corporate clients that will help amortize the cost of build-out throughout the lifetime of the lease. The two partners also offer dedicated facilities management so that corporate clients can avail of dependable inexpensive utilities, advanced backup and disaster recovery systems, and an excellent security system. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS VENTURES INTO CLARK The most recent (and perhaps most exciting) business development in the Clark Freeport Zone is the May 2007 announcement by Texas Instruments that it will open a new plant within the Zone valued at $1 billion. The move by this major US-based computer chip manufacturer is believed to be the largest investment of its kind in the Philippines to date – showing, according to American Chamber of Commerce executive director Robert Sears: “the Philippines has the capacity to compete with other top business facilities in the world if its leaders set their minds to it.” Sears stressed that Texas Instruments is planning to stay in the Philippines for the long-term due to its existing facilities in Baguio and comfort with the country’s business climate. The new Texas Instruments facility began construction in 2007, and when finished will occupy a total of eight hectares (or 19.7 acres) and will house the company’s assembly plant and test operations focusing on microchips mainly for cell phones. When the Clark facility is finished, Texas Instruments is projected to generate at least 7 billion dollars in total annual exports from its two Philippine operations – double the 3.5 billion dollars in exports that it produced in 2006 from its Baguio City facility alone. Clark Development Corporation has also opted to devote around 30 hectares (or 74 acres) in the Freeport Zone to accommodate the presence of the support industries and suppliers of the company – numbering about 500 on the whole.

There are numerous opportunities for investments between US$100,000 and $500,000. These opportunities are especially attractive for semi-retirement lifestyles. The best, easiest and safest way to go about with this kind of investments is to deal with an existing business – a locator as business in Clark is called – so the investor is spared of the hassle of dealing with red-tape and bureaucracy that is always present in third-world countries. The existing locator has already cleared the path so to speak and even if it means asking for small premium for a partnership, it is very much worth the while of a new investor to take this route. Business opportunities depend largely on the skills, interests and experiences of the investors but there is a strong demand for more establishments in these areas: entertainment, shops, office space, construction and engineering services, restaurants and bars, transportation and travel assistance.

Clark Freeport is one of the most attractive business propositions the Philippines has to offer for investors in many kinds of businesses from BPO, hospitality, resorts and leisure facilities to condos, retirement homes, restaurants, bars and shops.

Celebrate Christmas at Clark Air Force City Park (2023)

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Decorations - Clark Air Base

Today, I’m thrilled to share the festive wonderland that has emerged at Clark Air Force City Park this Christmas. After a prolonged closure due to the pandemic, the park has not only reopened but has transformed into an enchanting destination for families seeking holiday cheer.

I Love Clark Air Base

Situated within the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, the park boasts an impressive display of real helicopters, fighter jets, and aviation equipment used by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the United States. The park is not only a haven for aviation enthusiasts but also a haven for nature lovers with its jogging and biking paths.

Clark Air Force City Belen

As you drive down Clark Air Base road, you’re welcomed by a magnificent Belen, setting the tone for the Christmas extravaganza that awaits you. The park offers ample parking, shaded areas, and a promise of joyous festivities.

Enchanting Booths for All Ages

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Village

On the right, upon entering the park is this booth featuring beautiful Parols (star-shaped Christmas lanterns) and large oil cans adorned with playful characters like deers, minions, panda, SpongeBob, and more.

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Village

The next booth showcases a colossal spider with a Belen nestled beneath it.

Clark Air Force City - AFRC

The succeeding booth features two air force soldiers offering salutes at the entrance, complemented by a Belen, a Christmas tree, and an intricately detailed walk path.

Clark Air Force City - AFRC

This pink Christmas Castle beckons with an inviting entrance adorned with lollipops and candies, creating an irresistible allure. Venture inside, where a fascinating array of military displays unfolds, offering visitors insights into the remarkable endeavors of the Air Force.

Clark Air Force City - Innovators

Encourage young scientists at the Innovators booth, designed to inspire curiosity and creativity. With astronaut and spaceship photo booth, it offers a space for kids to imagine themselves reaching for the stars.

Clark Air Force City - StalCbucks

Another booth beckons with snowmen and a beautiful triangle structure, creating the ideal backdrop for selfies. Families can capture picture-perfect moments amidst the festive decorations.

Aviation Marvels

Clark Air Force City - Huey

One standout exhibit is the UH-1H “Huey,” a helicopter with a rich history dating back to the Vietnam War.

Clark Air Force City -Vought F8 Crusader

The park also houses the Vought F-8 Crusader, a carrier-based fighter with a sophisticated weapons delivery system. Its presence is a testament to the rich military history within these grounds.

Clark Air Force City - Trojan

The T-28 “Trojan” (Tora-Tora) is another highlight, once used for training cadet pilots and later in missions against secessionists.

At the heart of the park, a giant Christmas Tree steals the spotlight. Composed of large gifts, it becomes a central gathering point.

Clark Air Force City - Children's Park

One of the park’s noteworthy features is the availability of seats both inside and outside the booths. You can also bring your own mats for a cozy picnic while the little ones explore the children’s playground.

Bloom and Brew Cafe

And for those who forgot to bring their own food, the Bloom & Brew Cafe inside the park offers appetizing meals and refreshing drinks.

Nighttime Marvels

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Village at Night

As night falls, the park undergoes a magical transformation.

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Village StalCbucks at night

Floodlights illuminate every corner, ensuring the park is a well-lit wonderland.

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Village Eagle at Night

The booths, aircraft, and decorations come alive with vibrant colors, setting the stage for a breathtaking nocturnal experience.

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Spider at NIght

The giant spider, a momentarily spine-chilling sight is now transformed into a whimsical wonder. Despite its imposing size, the spider sports a cheerful Santa hat and cradles a charming Belen beneath it. Giant lollipops adorn its surroundings, ensuring that kids, despite the initial scare, find joy and sweetness in this unexpected holiday creature.

Clark Air Force City - Fighter Jet at Night

Witness the Vought Fighter Jet don a new persona at night, with Christmas lights outlining its majestic form. It becomes a beacon of elegance, adding to the park’s nighttime allure.

Clark Air Force City - Innovators Booth at night

As the night unfolds, the Innovators booth takes on a celestial glow. The astronaut photo booth becomes a portal to the cosmos, allowing kids to envision themselves as space explorers.

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Castle at Night

The pink Christmas Castle comes to life at night, radiating brightness with lighted Santa and snowman figures. It becomes a captivating beacon, drawing families in with its warm and festive glow.

Clark Air Force City - Trojan at Night

The Trojan aircraft at night takes on a captivating aura with Christmas lights delicately tracing its silhouette.

Clark Air Force City - Christmas Tree at Night

Also, of course don’t miss the enchanting centerpiece – the giant Christmas Tree illuminated with dancing and colorful lights.

While the park may not be crowded now, preparations are underway for an influx of visitors. Food booths (I think) are being set up to accommodate the growing crowd, ensuring that everyone can indulge in festive treats.

Clark Air Force City Park Details

What are you waiting for? Embrace the festive spirit at Clark Air Force City Park—where the entrance is free. Grab your mats, pack some delicious treats, bring your camera or bike, and make unforgettable memories in this enchanting haven.
