We are thinking of making a cruise to/ from Dubai on that ship this winter. German language isnot a big problem for us. Having sailed at a.o. HAL, Celebrity, we hope to hear from others if we Will like Mein Schiff? Service, food, entertainment etc.?

We are back from our Western Med cruise on Mein Schiff 6. The ship was fine, but I would never book that many tours again with them. The ports are strenuous. We enjoyed the ones we did ourselves much better. There is a limit to absorb the information from constantly talking guides. We haven't booked another cruise with TUI since we can't find an itinerary we like.

The food was good, often better than on our cruise on Mein Schiff 1, especially the fish dishes. Many servers from Eastern European countries had not yet caught on to the idea of smiling. One Philippino waiter told us that they stress 'friendliness' as part of a waiter's job in the training sessions.

Oh no, I lost a lengthy reply to you Ine. I'll summarize a bit.

We loved our Dubai cruise. The ship was great and the ports are different and interesting. They sold hop-on hop-off tickets on the ship in Dubai. It has 3 routes which you can enjoy all day. The bus goes to the pier.

The food has many German items, great bread, rolls, cake, rooibos tea in the tea selection, a separate included fish restaurant for a change of pace. Many choices of included cocktails, wine, beer and other alcoholic drinks. All soft drinks and almost all coffee is included.

Compared to food on HAL ships: Mein Schiff has more interesting items and more variety. Asian dishes as well. Great Italian gelato. Our next cruise is on the Amsterdam and I don't expect anything from the food, found it bland and boring in the past. It's also the passengers' fault who send anything a little bit spicy back. We booked the Amsterdam cruise for the itinerary.

Use the ports as your day time entertainment. The ship doesn't do much or maybe nothing. We didn't go to any events except to the captain's talk which was fun. The sun starved Germans (maybe not this year) hang out on the most crowded pool decks I have ever seen. It must be their main entertainment.

Service: It is good but the Indonesians and Philippinos are better because their smiles come naturally. We found a team of three Philippinos on our Norway cruise on Mein Schiff 1 and went to their station every evening. Similar outstanding service from a Turkish team on Mein Schiff 5. The supervisors are really good and help out when the dining rooms get more crowded around 7 p.m.

Best is to take the good (long swimming pool for swimmers) with the bad (smoking on balconies is permitted, yuk!) and enjoy the cruise and itinerary as it is. :cool:

Thank you Floridiana for your report. As we live in The Netherlands we know how much germans and also dutch love the sun. So no surprise it will be busy at the pool. Since we donot sit in the sun that much it will be no problem. Too bad smoking is allowed on the balconies however. We (like you) go for the itinary and ports not so much for the entertainment. So good to read about the food, that is another important factor for us. We certainly want to see as much as possible ashore so the hopon off bus is great. What did you do in Abu Dabi and the other portsby the way? We are no great fans of shipstour.

On some Hal ships you will find an asian section at the buffet, which often is rather good. We love the Tamarind restaurants on some of the HAL ships, but I think ms Amsterdam doesnot have it. We love the size of the Amsterdam.

In Abu Dhabi, we booked a ship's tour to the hinterland, do not recommend this particular tour. We wanted to see the desert town where the present sheik's father and founder of the UAE grew up. His palace is interesting but the tour should have been better despite the excellent tour guide, three forts and 5 minutes in a date palm oasis just doesn't do it for me.

Abu Dhabi: We went to the new Louvre museum on our own from Dubai because we had miscalculated the dates when reserving online. Take a taxi from the pier in Abu Dhabi. The Louvre is visible from the ship, but the taxi needs to go all the way around to the island. I wish they had a ferry, maybe they do in the meantime, who knows. There is more to see on the island, but the architecture of the Louvre is the most unique.

At the pier in Abu Dhabi, they had a group of male Bedouin dancers, two men with a falcon, fishermen weaving nets, a woman doing henna designs on your hand. I don't know whether this is the regular pier side entertainment, we were there on the national holiday. If it had been a work day, we would have gone to the date market which is not far from the pier.

Are you going to Oman or to Qatar or both?

Not to be missed in Abu Dhabi, the large mosque. It is the most beautiful building with marble floors and walls from Carrara, inlaid flower patterns, Swarovski crystal chandeliers. Absolutely stunning! We took the ship's tour at night. Wear long pants (not skin tight) covering your ankles and sleeves all the way to your wrists. Cover your hair with a scarf. If you don't fulfill the clothing requirements, they make you rent a gown. I wore my loose linen pants and blouse that I bring to tropical climates for mosquito protection.

Same for the other mosques we visited. There were always a few women who didn't believe it. The rental gown for the Oman mosque was the worst, but the mosque was also beautiful. Men need long pants and short sleeves only. Everybody takes off shoes, they have racks for them.

If I had to do it again, I would book a mountain tour in Oman. My husband was afraid they would have decrepit jeeps, but they had large new vehicles.

Thanks again for that information. Unfortunately my husband wears orthopedic shoes due to an accident when he was younger. He cannot walk without those shoes so I am afraid visiting a mosque is impossible for us.

So we will try to find a cab that can take us around to other places or take the hoho bus..

A friend told me about the highrise hotel in Dubai where he had (an expensive but worht it) high tea, so we are thinking about that. Indeed a tour to the dessert would be nice. I will google around to see if I can find a private driver or join a small group.

That mountain tour in Oman was that a shiptour?

Have you tried the line's website? I don't remember whether we looked at the excursions before or after we booked the cruise, but I remember that we did it at home. Many Germans book right on the ship. There is an area with computers for this purpose and a few live staff to help out. It's very busy on the first day. They also have a presentation in the theatre about the excursions

and the presentations are available on tv in the cabin.

They are very picky about the excursion cancellation times. And the descriptions of the excursions are more optimistic about the level of activity than on HAL ships. It did not matter on the Dubai cruise since nobody walks much in the heat anyway (except inside the malls), but it was an issue in Rome where it said 5 km of walking and my husband's watch counted 10 km.

The ship will be overnight in Dubai. If you want to see the evening water fountains in the Dubai Mall, just take a taxi there. We booked the excursion because we thought it would give us a better view. Not necessary, the fountains dance every 30 minutes and afterwards people leave. There is plenty of space to get up front for the next session. The music changes each time, it's about 5 minutes.

Hello Ine,   The ship is a slightly smaller and wow -improved version of Celebrity Solstice. Some issues were inherited (narrow balcony cabins, however the inside cabins are way better), but the result is amazingly refreshing. This one of a few best cruise ships available at the moment. The food quality overall (main dining rooms, specialty restaurants, buffet, alternative buffet) is above HAL and Celebrity, and only compares to Oceania.   MS 3 and 4 are the best ships built since 2010. These two ship are standing along in the TUI fleet (the product started rollinig down sibce MS 5 - growing suite privileges ).   Entertainment (shows) is similar to the large HAL & Celebrity ships. The poolside sailaway parties are much more interesting.   The MS3 is close to 5*-. The MS4 is just a nod below (added verandah of Surf & Turf specialty restaurant slightly compromises the open full-circle promenade deck experience).   The spa (included in the price) is huge. The only important miss: no thalassotherapy pool in the spa that is a must for a top class ship. Thus no 5*...   The review of the MS 3 is here . The ship appears at 33:08   Happy cruising!

We have travelled with Mein Schiff a couple of times now, and found them extreemly clean in the dining rooms,cabin and in general. Everything is organised with precision, and the food in the buffet restaurant is to die for! Cheese counter outstrips any other we have seen, and the stir fry counter is fabulous with a choose your food and buzzed when ready. The mixologists in the Tui bar are fabulous and put on a great show. The shows are very good, but the comedy was a bit of a problem (with language), singing and dance excellent! I am sure if you book you will have a great time.

I liked the a la carte breakfast in the MDR. Does MS4 have it also or only buffet in MDR?

In Germany it is common to go naked in the sauna, what on board.

the Atlantik Restaurant ist divided into three parts:

Atlantik Klassik: here you get a buffet breakfast, coffee / tea and omelets / div. eggs can be ordered

Atlantik Brasserie: in this part you can have an a la carte breakfast

Atlantik Mediterran: is closed for breakfast

And just an advice if you want a relaxing breakfast in a wonderful atmosphere: take a look at the Cafe Lounge!! You have to pay here for the breakfast, but it is really, really great!

M ovies with english subtitles are not in the board TV, so the guys from the TUI Cruises Netlounge told me. There are some movies in different languages, but they couldn´t say, how many and which languages.

Liebes Team von Tui Cruises, grundsätzlich finde ich Euer Preis- Leistungsverhältnis gut. Was jedoch ein absoluter Alpraum (gerade bei gebuchten Anreisepaketen auf der Fernstrecke) ist, dass die Buchungscodes/FileKeys sooo mega spät erst zur Verfügung gestellt werden!!!! Aktuelles Beispiel: Meine Frau leider unter einer chronischen Krankheit und die Lufthansa hätte uns direkt den Notausgang reserviert oder über Miles and More uns upgegradet. Trotz Nachfrage und Bitte bekommt man einfach diesen Buchungscode/Filekey nicht, obwohl das für Tui Cruises keine zusätzlichen Kosten bedeuten würde. Hier sollte zwingend ein Umdenken stattfinden und Menschen, bei besonderer Bedürfnis diesen Code früh zur Verfügung stellen. Man riskiert hierbei seitens Tui Cruises die Gesundheit der Passagiere in From von Thrombosen (gerde bei vorliegenden Krankheiten). Lufthansa hat uns schriftlich bestätigt, dass die Fluggesellschaft uns hier direkt helfen würde, das Problem aber an einfach an Tui Cruises liegt, da die FileKeys hier viel früher als eine Woche vorliegen. Deswegen mein eindringlicher Wunsch an Tui Cruises: Bitte denkt auch bei Flügen an das Wohl der Gäste uns sensibilisiert Euer Team bei triftigen Gründen die Buchunscodes früher zu erhalten. Danke für das Verständnis.

Mehr erwartet

Es war unsere erste Kreuzfahrt mit TUI. Soviel vorweg genommen. Reiseroute Mittelamerika/Karibik MS6. Die Balkonkabine war einigermaßen geräumig, jedoch hatte nur eine Seite des Bettes eine vernünftige Ablagefläche und Steckdosen, weil die Nische so eng war. Die lange zuvor bestellten Topper waren nicht da, mussten reklamiert werden. Reinigung war nicht zu beanstanden. Die abendliche Kabinenbegehung zwecks Bettmachen war in unseren Augen überflüssig. Die Klimaanlage arbeitete nicht gut, teilweise war es unerträglich heiß, ließ sich auch nicht einstellen. Die teuer angebotenen Mineralwasserflaschen in den Kabinen finde ich unpassend. Bei der Höhe des Reisepreises und dem beworbenen Allinklusive Angebot sollten diese kostenfrei zur Verfügung stehen, unabhängig vom Spender außerhalb der Kabine mit stillem Wasser. Gleiches gilt für die Kaffeekapseln. Nur zwei inkludiert pro Tag halte ich für kleinlich. Liegen auf dem Sonnendeck ab 8.30 kaum zu bekommen. Alles voll oder reserviert. Angekündigt dahingehend wurde viel, getan wurde wenig bis nichts. Kleiderordnung gibt es keine, es wurden lediglich "Wünsche" ausgesprochen, die von vielen Gästen jedoch konsequent ignoriert werden. Kurze Hosen, Achselshirt und Badelatschen zum Abendessen/in den Bars daher keine Seltenheit. Essensqualität und -quantität durchschnittlich. Lediglich die Eisauswahl war beachtlich. Essen oft lauwarm, häufig wiederholend. In der Regel war alles überfüllt, viel Lärm und langes Anstehen in den Restaurants garantiert. Wenn man denn einen Platz fand. Personal überwiegend freundlich, besonders an den Bars (Wartezeiten hielten sich dort auch in Grenzen). Personal Rezeption schien dagegen oft genervt zu sein. Ausflüge über TUI bestenfalls befriedigend. Überteuert, sehr voll, undeutliche Erklärungen aufgrund Akzent und/oder Akustik, zeitweise schlecht organisiert oder unvorbereitet auf lokale Gegebenheiten. Am Abreisetag wurden wir 4 Stunden vor Abflug an den Flughafen gekarrt, obwohl das Schiff erst am nächsten Tag ablegen sollte. Gerne hätten wir noch Zeit an Bord verbracht anstelle in einem überfüllten Gate. Das Internet war unterirdisch. Trotz teurem Zukauf lief es nicht stabil und man flog ständig raus. Fazit: wir haben im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz mehr erwartet, insbesondere was die Gastro und das Ambiente und die Gästestruktur angeht. Ob wir nochmal mit TUI fahren werden, hängt von den angebotenen Routen ab und dem Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz.

Nie wieder TUI. Im Vorfeld unserer Reise, die am 10.04.24 startet gibt es nur Chaos und keinerlei Kundenfreundlichkeit. Zehn Tage vor Abflug hätten wir die Sitzplätze im Flieger buchen können. Qatar wusste von nichts und TUI schon es auf Quatar. Bei 13.00,-€ Reisepreis hätte ich ein bisschen mehr erwartet. Generell, wo ist der Service? Ich habe mich so auf die Asienkreuzfahrt gefreut, habe jetzt aber wirklich Bedenken. Die Krönung war die gestrige Email zu den Einreisebestimmungen zu Sri Lanka. Wusste nicht, das wir über Sri Lanka fahren. Ich kann nur sagen unterirdisch. Gut, dass ich meine TUI Aktien verkauft habe. Mein hart verdientes Geld werde ich nicht mehr der TUI geben.

Das erste und wohl auch das letzte mal (Mein Schiff 3)

Wir hatten uns sehr auf unsere erste Kreuzfahrt gefreut. Umso größer ist die Enttäuschung. Wir waren mit der Mein Schiff 3 unterwegs. Zum Glück war es nur ein Kurztrip von 4 Nächten. Länger hätten wir das gruselige Essen im Buffet-Restaurant (permanent die gleichen lieblos zusammengewürfelten lauwarmen Gerichte) in dem es zudem meistens völlig überlaufen war. Auch einen Platz in einer Bar zu bekommen, war eine echte Herausforderung. Und wenn man es mal geschafft hatte, dann war kein Service-Mitarbeiter aufzutreiben. Am zweiten Tag musste dann meine Tochter aufgrund einer schweren Magenverstimmung das Bordhospital aufsuchen und verbrachte erst mal einen Tag in Quarantäne. Für sie war diese Reise damit praktisch vorbei. Und wir erhielten dazu noch eine gesalzene Rechnung. Danke dafür liebe TUI. Als Fazit kann ich nur sagen, dass von den wenigen durchaus schönen Momenten an Bord letztlich nicht viel übrig geblieben ist. Das Negative überwiegt leider deutlich und ich kann hier nur von "Mein Schiff" nachdrücklich abraten.

Deshalb empfehlen wir den Abschluss einer Auslandskrankenversicherung. So können Sie diese Auslagen später mit der Versicherung abrechnen. Die Reisen und Ausflüge sind sehr gut…

Die Reisen und Ausflüge sind sehr gut organisiert. Die Verpflegung ist einfach sehr gut. Der Bordservice könnte nicht besser sein. Wir waren schon mehrfach an Bord und haben erneut gebucht. Für das nicht immer angepasste Benehmen von Mitreisenden kann der Veranstalter ja nichts. Auch der Parkservice Vallet Parken funktioniert hervorragend. Die Kofferabgabe in Bremerhaven finden wir verbesserungswürdig.

Mein Schiff…. wir freuen uns auf dich

Wir haben bereits mehrere Reisen mit der Mein Schiff Flotte unternommen und waren jedesmal total begeistert. Unsere letzte Reise Norwegen bis Spitzbergen im Juli/August 2023, mit einer Radtour zum Nordkap, war ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Kapitän Fortun, die gesamte Crew, das Essen, die Ausflüge, die Vorträge und die Abendunterhaltung an Bord, alles bestens. Wir freuen uns schon sehr auf die nächste Reise mit der Mein Schiff. Das einzigste, was wir uns wünschen, ist eine Erweiterung der Routen in neue Gebiete. Wir machen Kreuzfahrten, um möglichst viel von der Welt zu sehen. Die Mischung, morgens die Balkontür zu öffnen, in einen neuen Hafen einzulaufen, den Tag voller Erlebnisse zu erleben und abends auf dem Schiff verwöhnt zu werden. Das ist unser „Mein Schiff“ Erlebnis.

Unangemessene Preisanhebungen

Es wird ordentlich an der Preisgrenze geschraubt. Dabei wird die Schmerzgrenze deutlich überschritten. Eine im August 2023 gebuchte 10-tägige Kreuzfahrt im westlichen Mittelmeer wird jetzt bei unveränderten Parametern als Angebot für über 1.000 Euro mehr angeboten. Da stimmt das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis nicht mehr. Bei einem Preis von fast 300 Euro pro Nacht und Person überlege ich mir, ob ich demnächst noch Mein Schiff buchen werde.

Lieber Arno Werkmeister, vielen Dank für die offenen Worte. Aktuell kommt es in allen Lebensbereichen zu Preissteigerungen. Urlaubsreisen sind davon besonders betroffen. Mein Schiff 1... Nie wieder

Wir waren 14 Tage um die Kanaren unterwegs. 14 Tage lang die gleichen 4 Käsesorten, die gleichen 5 Früchte. Das Fleisch trocken wie Sand und zäh wie Schuhsolen. Kartoffeln aufgewärmt und der Rest der Speisen reicht gerade zum satt werden. Das "Unterhaltungsprogramm" abgehalfterte Zirkusartisten, ein Zauberer der das Highlight jedes Kindergeburtstags wäre. Dazu bemühte Sänger. Abends sucht man verzweifelt eine Sitzgelegenheit. Eine Security die jeden "Gast" wie einen schwerkriminellen behandelt. Alles in allem die Mieseste Kreuzfahrt bisher.

Preis 1000€ höher als andere!

Ich bin vor ein paar Tagen von einer 1 Wöchigen Kanaren Tour zurückgekommen. Tui selber schickt vorab keine Reiseunterlagen oder Rechnung mehr postalisch. Auf dem Schiff selber aber, wird man mit Papier überschüttet. Ich hätte die Reiseunterlagen gerne auch vor ab postalisch erhalten. Aber meine Anfrage wurde verneint. Der Kabinenpreis von Innen Kabine 2400 € inklusive Flug, plus Balkonkabine inklusive Flug 2800€ war dermaßen überteuert. Einige weitere Gäste haben für die Balkon Kabine nur 1700 € bezahlt. TUI geht auf meine Frage nicht ein, wie eine solche Preisspanne möglich sein kann, wenn diese Person sogar nach uns gebucht haben. Unser Rückflug hatte eine Verspätung von über 3 Stunden. Es war das reinste Chaos. TUI selber hilft uns ebenfalls nicht, eine Entschädigung von der Airline zu erhalten. Laut Verbraucherschutz Zentrale kümmern sich bei Pauschalreisen der Veranstalter und Verkäufer der Reise, bei denen ja auch der Flug gebucht wurde sich auch um Reklamationen und Beschwerden!!! Aber nicht TUI !! ⚠️

Ich kann jeden nur abraten mit mein Schiff zufahren. Wir waren mal sehr begeistert von mein Schiff aber mittlerweile überhaupt nicht mehr. Wir haben für Februar 2025 eine Reise gebucht zum Nordkap, Juniosuit, da weiß man das es nicht billig ist aber wir hatten uns wirklich gefreut darauf. Jetzt hat mein Mann erfahren, dass er in der Zeit wo der Urlaub ist zur Kur muss und wir die Reise nicht antreten können. Wir wollten die Reise umbuchen auf dieses Jahr November oder Dezember, egal wohin. Wir hatten uns auch eine ausgesucht aber sie war 1000€ günstiger wie die alte und was macht mein Schiff, lehnen es ab, nein sie bieten uns eine Reise an die 3000€ teurer ist, dass heißt Kanaren für 14000€ und keine 14 Tage sondern nur 10 Tage , dass heißt die Nacht sollte in einer juniorsuit 1400€ kosten, die spinnen ja wohl. Da sie uns keine vernünftige Alternative geben konnten werden wir die Reise stornieren, was uns fast 4000€ kostet aber wir werden nie wieder mit mein Schiff fahren, damit sind sie einen guten Kunden los.

Nie wieder "Mein Schiff"

Es war unsere 1. Kreuzfahrt mit "Mein Schiff" und mit Abstand die schlechteste. Wir hatten eine Junior Suite für die Karibik und Mittelamerikareise gebucht. Begonnen hat der schlechte Eindruck, wo keiner uns in Empfang genommen hat, geschweige den einer uns informierte wo der Kabinenschlüssel ist. Der X-Lounge Bereich war schön, leider musste man ab 19 Uhr diesen Bereich bezahlen für uns völlig unverständlich. Der Concierge in der X-Lounge war nicht zugänglich, überheblich und sehr wenig vor Ort. Der große Nachteil auf dem X-Sonnendeck war, dass es keinen einzigen Schattenplatz gab sowie keine Bedienung vorhanden war, nur Kühlschranke zur Selbstbedienung. Das Essen war durschschnittlich, kaum Abwechslung und meistens schon lauwarm bis kalt. Dass es auf der Karte neben den "normalen" Menüs noch spezielle Sachen angeboten werden, die zusätzlich bezahlt werden müssen, passt bei diesen Reisepreise und der Aussage Premium alles inklusive nicht! Das All-in-Angebot ist immer noch ein Argument, allerdings kann man inzwischen auch auf anderen Schiffen entsprechende Pakete zubuchen, die sich im Gesamtpreis dann dem Mein-Schiff-Preis angleichen. In den Bedienrestaurants Atlantik Mediterran und Klassik und in der X-Lounge gab es das gleiche Menü! Das Personal im Restaurant und Barbereich macht die fehlende Ausbildung oder mangelnde Erfahrung nicht durch Freundlichkeit wett, sondern war eher unverschämt und unsympathisch. Die angebotenen Ausflüge vom Schiff sind vermittelt und vorwiegend in Englisch. Positiv hervorzuheben möchte ich, das freundliche Kabinenpersonal. Kabine und Balkon waren immer tip top sauber und gepflegt. Hinweis: Diese Bewertung spiegelt lediglich unsere persönliche Erfahrung bei dieser Kreuzfahrt.

Uns hat es gut gefallen.

Wir kommen von einer 14-tägigen Kanaren-Kreuzfahrt mit Agadir/Madeira auf der MS1 zurück. Es war unsere 3. Fahrt mit MS (nach den beiden Karibik-Touren zuvor). Security: Wir hatten mit den Security-Maßnahmen kein Problem. Das Einscannen der Bordkarte beim Rein und Raus geht rasch und auch das Durchleuchten des Handgepäcks erfordert meist nur geringe Wartezeit. Für das Gefühl der Sicherheit 3 Minuten zu opfern, fanden wir völlig OK. Zimmerservice: Der Service kommt 2x/Tag. Über Sauberkeit der Kabinen und Freundlichkeit des Personals konnten wir uns wirklich nicht beklagen. Rezeption: Wir waren wegen verschiedener Dinge ein paar Mal an der Rezeption. Hochnäsigkeit haben wir nie verspürt. Besonders engagiert war eine junge Dame mit österreichischem Dialekt, die sehr freundlich und hilfreich war. Frühstück: Wir haben morgens i.d.R. nur Obst und/oder etwas Fisch gegessen. Ein Wenig mehr Auswahl wäre zwar schön gewesen, aber beklagen konnten wir uns nicht. Dazu einen Kaffee und ein Gläschen Sekt an der frischen Luft (hinter dem Fischrestaurant) war ein schöner Tagesbeginn. Außenalster: Noch letztes Jahr gab es dort kleine Snacks wie z.B. Tintenfischringe oder Datteln im Speckmantel. Jetzt gibt es dort verschiedene Hotdogs. Schade, das fanden wir vorher besser. Anckelmannsplatz: Wir hielten das Angebot für vielfältig. Besonders gut war die geschmorte Gans/Ente. Klasse ist auch die Chance, sich das WOK-Essen selbst zusammenzustellen. Innerhalb der Rushhour, war es uns dort aber zu voll. Uns war unverständlich, in welcher Kleidung einige Gäste zum Abendessen erschienen. Niemand von der Crew intervenierte. Schade. Abendessen Atlantik-Restaurants: Wer hier bei Candlelight einen Heiratsantrag absetzen möchte, ist falsch am Platz. Aber außerhalb der Stoßzeit war das Essen dort ein Vergnügen. Das Hirschfilet und die Meeresfrüchte fanden wir köstlich. Wer will hat auch die Chance, sein Mahl individuell zusammenzustellen und im Voraus zu planen. Abend-Unterhaltung: Das war mager. Für uns war nicht viel dabei. Ein sympathischer Zauberer, aber das war’s auch schon. Unbedingt empfehlen können wir die nautische Fragestunde mit dem Kapitän. Die ist hochinteressant, kurzweilig, humorvoll - eine echte Freude. Gut gefallen hat uns wieder die White-night mit einer bunten Show und einem immer lockerer werdenden und sogar mitsingenden Kreuzfahrtdirektor. Der DJ war leider mehr als ein Totalausfall. Wir erlebten auf unserer 14-tägigen Reise 5 Tanzabende auf dem Pooldeck. Der DJ spielte jedesmal die gleiche Playlist ab. Tupfengleich. Nur Disco-Musik, die Titel ca. 40 Jahre alt (YMCA und Ähnliches). Stimmt wirklich. Am ersten Abend mag das OK sein, wird aber bei jeder Wiederholung immer unerträglicher. Auf unsere Bitte hin, doch mal etwas anderes aufzulegen, meinte er, er dürfe das nicht und im Übrigen seien ja genug Gäste auf der Tanzfläche, dann könne die Musik ja wohl nicht so schlecht sein. Dabei war sein Ton mehr als patzig. Wenn TUI-Cruises nach weiteren Einsparmöglichkeiten sucht: Für das immer gleiche Abspielen einer Playlist braucht man keinen DJ. Apropos Tanzen: Der Tanzlehrer wurde offenbar eingespart. Wir finden, ein Tanzkurs gehört zu einer Kreuzfahrt zwingend dazu. Ausflüge: Auf unserer ersten Kreuzfahrt, als wir noch unerfahren waren, haben wir nur TUI-Ausflüge gebucht. Mittlerweile haben wir gelernt, dass es bei VIATOR und GETYOURGUIDE auch spannende und z. T. deutlich günstigere Touren gibt. Ein Bewertungssystem für die TUI-Ausflüge existiert (aus nachvollziehbaren Gründen) nicht. Das wäre vermutlich auch das Ende für den einen oder anderen TUI-Ausflug. Der Shuttleservice auf Madeira vom Liegeplatz in die City hat bei max. 5 Minuten Fahrzeit 9 €/Kopf gekostet. Die Wegstrecke wurde vorher nicht kommuniziert und der Buss war praktisch immer voll besetzt. Eine tolle Rendite - für TUI. Ausdrücklich loben möchten wir eine Gebirgstour mit den TUI-eBikes ins Anagagebirge auf Teneriffa. Es ging rauf auf 1.300 m über 55 km Strecke. Die Tour war spitzenmäßig. Ein abenteuerliches Erlebnis. Ganz große Klasse. Unterm Strich: Wir hatten 3 fantastische Kreuzfahrten mit MS. Im Moment lassen wir offen, ob weitere dazukommen. Wir werden die Preis- und Zufriedenheits-Entwicklung bei den Gästen weiter verfolgen. Verreißen möchten wir die TUI-Kreuzfahrten ausdrücklich nicht. Es sind Reisen mit vielen Menschen auf kleinem Raum und es dabei jedem recht zu machen, ist kaum möglich.

Mein Schiff 4 - Karibik vom 1.01.24 - 16.01.24 Eine tolle Reise! Wir waren insgesamt sehr zufrieden! Das Entertaiment war auch sehr gut, besonders die Karibien-Band. Einige Kritikpunkte haben wir trotzdem. Am Abreisetag haben wir noch einen Strandtag gebucht, wussten aber nicht wohin mit unseren Sachen // Wertsachen. Es fehlen Schließfächer!!! Der DJ war für Wünsche vollkommen unzugänglich. Auf die Kleiderordnung, insbesondere am Abend, wurde überhaupt nicht geachtet. Mineralwasser auf dem Zimmer sollte kostenlos sein oder man verzichtet darauf.

Die Unterhaltung und auch die Stimmung…

Die Unterhaltung und auch die Stimmung an Bord lässt sehr zu wünschen übrig. Die Bands sind lahmhinterig und keiner tanzt. Die Sängerin hat eine gute Stimme doch zieht sie jeden Rhytmus ins Chillige. Innerhalb von einer Stunde mit Reggae im Chilltempo das Deck leer gesungen. Unterhaltung geht anders. Am Vorbend die Band hat es noch schneller geschafft. Der DJ sagt keinen Ton sondern spielt uralte Schlager : zB. Biene Maja.....Wir sind jetzt den 4. Abend an Bord und bisher ist die Unterhaltung unter aller Kanone..

Kundenservice weiß leider nicht was Service bedeutet

Ich bin alleinreisendeund auch nicht mehr die Jüngsten. Ich habe ein 26 Tägigen Reise mit Mein Schiff 3 zum Kapverden und Kanaren gebucht: Balkonkabine in PLUS Tarif. Letzte Woche bekam ich Kabine Zuteilung 6061. Weit von Aufzug, Sichtbehinderung und direkt über Abtanzbar. Ich habe gleich eine Mail geschickt mit Frage näher zum Aufzug zu wechseln. Sichtbehinderung akzeptiere ich. Antwort von Mein Schiff : Standard Floskeln.hatte Das Teuerste Tarif buchen müssen. Man ist gar nicht auf meiner Problem eingegangen. Dies ist meine 5e Reise mit mein Schiff aber die letzten. Mir ist schon jetzt die Freude vergangen.

Eine wunderschöne Reise auf der MS 1

Wir haben vom 10.12.23 bis 17.12.23 eine Kanarenkreuzfahrt mit Madeira auf der MS 1 unternommen und waren durchweg begeistert. Besonders hervorzuheben war die Freundlichkeit des Kabinenpersonals auf Deck 9. Danke, noch einmal dafür. Alles war gut organisiert und hat reibungslos geklappt. Die Ausflüge, insbesondere die E-Bike Touren, waren gut und souverän geführt. Auch der Friseur war top. Wir werden sicherlich wieder eine Reise auf der MS buchen.

Stammgast sagt “Nie wieder”

Ich bin seit drei Tagen auf der MS1 „Tour Kapverden“ unterwegs. Was hier geboten wird ist eine absolute Frechheit. Die Qualität der Speisen ist in jeder Bahnhofspommesbude teilweise besser. Das die sich nicht schämen so etwas den Gästen zu servieren ist der reinste Wahnsinn. Mir kommt es so vor, das keine Löhne mehr an die Mitarbeiter gezahlt werden, oder diese mit Knebelverträgen ausgebeutet werden und deshalb nur noch unzufrieden drein blicken und kein Lächeln mehr im Gesicht haben. 30min auf ein Spaghettieis gewartet und dabei in drei freche Eisbedienungsgesichter geguckt, da ich nicht damit einverstanden war und was gesagt habe. Völlig überteuerte Internettarife die der letzte Müll sind. Kommunikation mit den eigenen Kindern nicht möglich an Bord über das Handy, da sich jedes Handy automatisch nach ein paar Minuten vom Internet trennt. In den Kabinen bricht der Empfang alle paar Sekunden ab. Mal ein wichtiges Telefonat führen ist schier unmöglich. Dann mal zur Rezeption und von den ahnungslosen Gelegenheitsarbeitern auch keine nennenswerten Lösungen erhalten. Die IT ist schuld. Die IT sagt wahrscheinlich der ist schuld und der sagt der ist schuld. Aber wie schon gesagt. Lust hat hier keiner mehr zu arbeiten. Das war früher anders. AIDA ist schon echt unterirdisch, aber das hier ist eine absolute Frechheit. Im Atlantikrestaurant kommt man bei einem 5 Gänge Menü auf ein Gesamtgewicht von 50gr an Speisen. Trotz Osterferien sind 80% der Gäste über 70 Jahre alt. Wir kommen uns hier vor wie auf einer Kaffeefahrt. Unsere Teenager haben sich gefreut mit uns und Gleichgesinnten in der Abtanzbar zu feiern. So wie früher. Aber nun kommen Schlagerwünsche und 30-40 Jahre alte Lieder. Ein patziger DJ der keine aeinsicht hat, ist auch wieder eine absolute Frechheit. Wir haben keine Ahnung was hier abläuft, aber wir befinden uns hier im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes auf einem sinkenden Schiff. Traurig. Bucht euren Urlaub auf jeden Fall woanders. Für diese überzogenen Preise ist die Leistung eine Note 6-. Wenn Sie darüber reden wollen liebes TUI Team, ich bin noch 10 Tage auf ihrem Schiff. Kai von Kabine 9034 und 3033.

Mein Schiff ist die Nummer 1!

Wir haben im Dezember die Kanaren/ Madeira Tour mit der MS1 gemacht und waren begeistert und in allen Bereichen zufrieden. Das Konzept hat uns überzeugt und wir haben bereits wieder gebucht. Das Essen, die Kabine, der Service und die Getränke waren wirklich super. Erstaunlich was manche Passagiere so zu nörgeln haben, bei einigen gewinnt man den Eindruck das es ihnen nur noch darum geht alles schlecht zu reden und anderen den Urlaub zu verderben....zum fremd schämen. Wir haben unsere Kreuzfahrt genossen und sind wirklich dankbar, daß wir uns so einen Luxus erlauben können.

I just booked a cruise with TUI Mein Schiff 3. There is not a lot of discussion on Cruise Critic (gay or straight) about a ship catering to a German-speaking clientele, since this is an English-speaking site, but I discovered a German-speaking forum about cruising that has a lot more information about those ships. Unfortunately, there is not the equivalent of the "special interest" boards over there. While I doubt we will end up being "the only gays in the village" on board, I haven't been able to find anything on the roll call to confirm this, nor anything discussing any experiences with that cruise brand from an LGBT perspective. And when I use the search function on the other forum to search for "lesbisch" there are 0 results, while when I do "schwul" (which is German for gay), it turns up a lot of results for "schwül" (which is German for humid) because the search engine can't recognize the umlaut and the sweltering humidity of the Caribbean is something Germans like to write about in their trip reports. When I searched for "gay" there turned up one discussion among heterosexuals about a gay charter cruise on a TUI ship this coming summer in Scandinavia, where they noticed it didn't seem booked out well, and one surmised that perhaps the German gay market didn't like being in a "ghetto" or that maybe the target market did not like taking cruises. Searching for "friend of dorothy" turned up one result, where one gay cruiser (from my home town even!) remarked that he hoped TUI would introduce FOD meetings (this remark was about 5 years old, but I did not find any follow-up posts or responses to this). Other than just keeping my eyes peeled and being observant while on board, I don't really know what else I can do to research either a) the LGBT perspective on cruising with TUI or b) how many other gay people might be on board my particular cruise. Perhaps someone else on this forum here has some insight into the matter?

I've never sailed Mein Schiff, because when travelling solo it is weird expensive. But I'm sure you won't be alone. On every ship I've met gays yet, although FOD is more English / American than continental European. Also on Italian ships without any organisation of meetings. I'm booked now on Costa and got in touch with someone on a straight Roll Call, just remembered the name from a comment within the gay section. Have a great cruise!

From just observing who was dining with whom or which people tended to sit next to each other in the theater and such, it seems that maybe about 1-2% of the ship passengers were gay. Gaydar suggests that a higher proportion of the crew would qualify, but that never was an explicit part of discussions with crew members.

As far as the attitudes of the cruise company were concerned, it was just like any other cruise I had been on -- everything was generally fine, but some of the comments of the cruise director or other aspects of the entertainment seemed occasionally a bit heteronormative (we were on the cruise on Valentine's Day, and the cruise director implied that men needed reminding of this more than women; the lecturer who talked about our destinations said that for Omani men, one of their chief decorations was the traditional Omani dagger, while for German men it was women/wives who fulfilled this role). Again, that is pretty much what one would expect from any other cruise company, whether American or European.

It proved to be rather difficult, however, to make contact with other people on the cruise (gay or straight). There were one or two gay couples traveling with another gay couple apparently, and they would hang around with each other. One guy I started talking to in the sauna went out for drinks with us after the show one night and we would say hi when we would meet by chance around the ship, but he was more into dining in the buffet, and we were more into the restaurants downstairs. The only time we ever got into casual conversation was with heterosexual couples we were seated with at 4-top tables -- two nights we got lucky and had some really nice people, the other nights were so-so. Occasionally the hosts would try to seat us (two males) with two females -- one time one of the women saw a windowside table for two open up and requested being reseated there before anyone was handed a menu, and the other time the women (who were a couple courses further on than we were) just ignored us and spoke to each other in their strong Austrian dialect.

In general, a German-speaking ship tends to attract Germans who have trouble speaking other languages, which might slant the demographics a little bit more toward older, slightly less cosmopolitan people -- there was an occasional look of surprise when my travel partner and I would walk on the outdoor promenade past the window of the 24-hour-cafe where an elderly gentleman might be eating, but that was more his problem than ours. Otherwise, I did enjoy having less chatty waiters, no ice in the water served at the table, and all-inclusive beverage package in the price of the cruise, rather than as an extra add-on. Having Broadway songs translated into German was not such a good thing, but they also did some indigenously German musical numbers which we wouldn't have gotten on other ships, and the bed linens were German-style duvets, rather than the sheet-and-blanket thing, making the turn-down service somewhat different.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I understand you are much more disappointed by the other guests than by the service you’ve got by TUI in general. It is quite expectable that on a ship designed for the German market you won‘t find a wide mixture of nationalities. There is a cruise line just for the Spanish market and I‘d never book them, as I don‘t speak the language at all. A pure British offer I already booked - although I was quite an exotic guest aboard. But no problem even as solo traveller, as I didn‘t found those situations others even didn‘t want to communicate with strangers. Talking about not wanting to have contact to others at all is weird indeed. I wouldn‘t say it‘s typical German as I sat on a cruise at a table with three solo travelling German ladies and we spent good evenings together. But I know how annoying it can be, last year I sat together with a group of Italians without speaking anything else but Italian and I just can read an Italian menu - more or less. Luckily it happened just once. Whether it is a reason to book Mein Schiff for free drinks it is up to you. I book a cruise if I like to go to the places visited and the price is acceptable for me. I don‘t care if it is just one price or three different prices, the grand total I can calculate myself and I am not surprised any more that there is not always everything included in a cruise.

And what is the lesson you learned aboard? If you don‘t like a woman as status symbol, do it as Omani men: just buy a dagger…

i am German :D And we did six cruises with AIDA cruises, none with Mein Schiff. But several of our friends did it. In general to be gay is no problem in Germany or on board of one of these ships. Most of the fellow cruisers are quite interested and asking questions. I had no negative experience on Board or on land. But many positive experiences.

AIDA and Mein Schiff are products for german speaking guests. There are usually no international guests (only Germans, Swiss and Austrian people) on board.

Just for the record, I did another TUI cruise this past Christmas/New Year's to the Caribbean. I chose it because of the itinerary -- originating in Barbados was a nice thing (they had it optional of starting there, which about 1/3 of the passengers did, or in La Romana, Dominican Republic, which about 2/3 of the passengers did), and the German ship stopped at some ports I had not been to on Celebrity (the only other line I have been to the Caribbean with) -- including Guadaloupe and Martinique. Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao were new to me as well as the Dominican Republic. I also revisited Barbados, Dominica, Grenada and St. Lucia, where I had been before with Celebrity. It was nice to have someone else making the arrangements for Christmas and New Year's celebrations, and the two-week itinerary was also good, given that coming from Europe, the flight is so long that you don't want to just do a week and then go back home.

Based on my previous experience, this was pretty much the same. TUI provides a pretty uniform, upscale product, though there were times when some of their standard procedures of operation were a bit annoying (long line returning from shore excursion in Dominican Republic because two planeloads of new passengers had just arrived, hassle with TUI's luggage procedures at disembarkation). Generally, the food was top-notch, though surprisingly their Schnitzel was quite bad, but there are plenty of other things to order.

The mix of fellow passengers was a bit different than the Emirates-to-India cruise, mostly because over the holidays there were a lot of multi-generational families and quite a few kids (some of whom liked playing in the stairwells, which was amusing when passing them). I don't think we ended up meeting any of our fellow passengers, really -- we pretty much just kept to ourselves and did our own thing, which was fine. No LGBT-meetups organized by the cruise line, nor any Cruise Critic meetups either. Again, there were a few other gay couples on board, but I think the LGBT visibility on the whole was kind of like in a small-to-medium-size town away from major metropolitan areas. Due to the more mixed age range of the crowd (lower proportion of elderly), we did not cause any eyebrows to be raised by being together, either. There were a couple of Asian families on board who did not speak German, but they were able to get by using English.

Why dont you just go on a gay cruise, join a gay group on a cruise  or go to a gay resort???

You come across a bit snarky in your expectations.  It's easy enough to research (whatever) groups that are onboard or focused on.

You did research & came up empty...just because you didnt find the results you wanted doesnt quantify your remarks. 2 men together anywhere should not cause distraction...unless they are all over each other & tongue swabbing all over the ship.  That goes for any gender....

My partner I travel to spend time together & if we meet interesting people all the better...gay, staight..it doesn't matter.   Of course on longer crises there is an older demographic and going to exotic destinations tend to attract more affluent & well travelled passengers.  In the USA  a gallop poll has 4.5 % of the population as gay...so on a ship that would be the max I imagine.  I / we don't go to FID meets, or any other organized activities & yet we've met lots of fun interesting people.  

Sounds like you need to open up to those onboard whatever the situation..HELL would be a shop full of drunk queens..no matter where.

When I searched for "gay" there turned up one discussion among heterosexuals about a gay charter cruise on a TUI ship this coming summer in Scandinavia, where they noticed it didn't seem booked out well, and one surmised that perhaps the German gay market didn't like being in a "ghetto" or that maybe the target market did not like taking cruises. Searching for "friend of dorothy" turned up one result, where one gay cruiser (from my home town even!) remarked that he hoped TUI would introduce FOD meetings (this remark was about 5 years old, but I did not find any follow-up posts or responses to this). Other than just keeping my eyes peeled and being observant while on board, I don't really know what else I can do to research either a) the LGBT perspective on cruising with TUI or b) how many other gay people might be on board my particular cruise. Perhaps someone else on this forum here has some insight into the matter?

Auf einer Kreuzfahrt mit der „Mein Schiff“-Flotte möchten die Passagiere nicht nur Städte und Häfen an Land erkunden, sondern auch zahlreiche Erlebnisse an Bord genießen. Hierzu gehört, in einer Bar an Bord entspannt einen Drink zu genießen oder die köstlichen Speisen in den Restaurants bei einer angenehmen Atmosphäre zu schlemmen.

Doch was eine Frau nun in den Restaurants erlebte, war anders als erwartet und ließ sie darüber nachdenken, sich von der „Mein Schiff“-Flotte zu trennen.

„Mein Schiff“: Unangenehme Szenen in den Restaurants

Die „Mein Schiff“-Urlauberin war vor kurzem auf einer Kreuzfahrt mit der Hamburger Reederei und konnte ihren Augen in den Restaurants kaum glauben, als sie sah, wie die Restaurants überfüllt waren. Das „Anstehen und das Gedränge“ haben sie genervt. Sie wandte sich sofort an andere Kreuzfahrtgäste und fragte, ob solche Szenen normal und alltäglich bei „Mein Schiff“-Reisen seien.

Als sie ins Restaurant ging, gab es keinen freien Platz, daher musste sie „eine lange Zeit“ warten, bis einer frei wurde. Das führte dazu, dass sie auf Facebook schrieb: „Wenn das so bleibt, war das meine letzte Kreuzfahrt auf einem ‚Mein Schiff‘.“

The 2017-built TUI Mein Schiff 6 cruise ship is owned by TUI Cruises and built by Meyer Turku Shipyard (Finland) . TUI Schiff 6 has all 5 sisterships (from the same series) - Schiff 3 (2014), Schiff 4 (2015), Schiff 5 (2016), Schiff 1 (2018) and Schiff 2 (2019).

The vessel (IMO number 9753208) is currently Malta- flagged (MMSI 249660000) and registered in Valletta .

History - construction and ownership

TUI Cruises is a UK-based joint venture cruise company (50-50) of TUI Group (British-German travel and tourism corporation) and RCCL-Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (USA-based passenger shipping company). TUI started cruise shipping operations in 2009, targeting predominantly the German-speaking market with a premium travel vacation product. German and English are the main onboard languages on all TUI Schiffs (ships). TUI's sister-brands are Marella Cruises UK and Hapag-Lloyd-Cruises .

The assembly of the 2500-passenger ship Mein Schiff 6 started on April 25, 2016, at Meyer Turku with the first grand block that was laid in the building dock. It took only 7 months until the new ship was fully assembled from the grand blocks. This was the 4th TUI cruise vessel built in Turku. Coins were placed under the ship's keel block, which according to tradition, should bring luck for the newest Mein Schiff. Representatives of Meyer Turku, RCCL-Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd and the classification society Det Norske Veritas were present at the event.

Mein Schiff 6 has 15 decks and capacity for 2534 passengers. 90% of all cabins are ocean views, and 82% have a private balcony. In addition, the new build has a number of improvements in passenger amenities and energy efficiency, even over her sister ships Mein Schiff 3, 4 and 5. Due to the advanced exhaust cleaning system using a catalytic converter and a scrubber, sulfur emissions are reduced by nearly 99% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 75%.

TUI Mein Schiff 6 itinerary program started with Caribbean and Bahamas cruises with roundtrips from NYC New York (homeport Cape Liberty, Bayonne New Jersey). Caribbean itineraries visited ports in the Dominican Republic, Bahamas (Nassau) and USA (Norfolk, Charleston, Miami, Port Canaveral). Cruises from the USA to New England included stops in Boston. Until mid-August 2017, Schiff 6 offered northern Europen and Baltic cruises.

Mein Schiff 6 Wiki

Schiff 6 is TUI's 4th newbuild by the shipbuilder STX Finland ( Turku ). The shipbuilding company was bought out by Meyer Werft GmbH in 2015. All the new TUI vessels were built with energy efficient solutions and environmentally friendly power plants that reduce emissions by 30% and consume 30% less energy in comparison to similar-size cruise liners. The advanced scrubber (exhaust cleaning system) uses a catalytic and scrubber converter, which reduces sulphur emissions by 99% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 75%.

Designers of the new TUI liners are Wilson Butler Architects, together with CM Design and Tillberg Design. Fun fact is, that each ship in this new series brings nearly 5000 person-years labour to the Turku shipyard. Each ship's construction engages 800 out of all 1400 workers at the shipbuilding yard. The percentage of German travellers on board TUI ships is around 80%.

According to Meyer Turku, it takes only 7 months for each new Schiff to be fully assembled from the grand blocks. Then follow outfitting, commissioning and testing. TUI Schiff 6 was delivered on May 9, 2017. Following the delivery ceremony at Turku yard, the ship departed for Kiel Germany .

On June 1, 2017, in Port Hamburg was held vessel's christening ceremony. The location was close to the waterfront Elbphilharmonie (concert house). The ship's godmother is Iveta Apkalna (acclaimed pianist and organist from Latvia). The naming ceremony was also attended by over 1950 cruise passengers booked on the inaugural cruise from Hamburg to Kiel. Thousands of spectators watched the show from ashore. Following the ceremony, the ship left Cruise Center Altona at ~9 PM, sailing upstream to HafenCity where two choirs performed live at Elbphilharmonie (concert hall). Followed the premiere of a specially composed for the event musical piece, inspired by Brahms Symphony No.1's 4th movement. The performance was accompanied by a light show.

TUI Schiff 6 started its Caribbean cruise program in September 2017 with an inaugural Transatlantic crossing from Hamburg to New York (Port Cape Liberty Bayonne NJ). The NYC-based itinerary program included Canada, Caribbean and Bahamas cruises leaving roundtrip from Bayonne.

Inaugural itineraries 2017

In November 2015 was officially announced, that with their newest cruise ship Schiff 6 TUI Cruises targets the North American market. The ship's launch is scheduled for September 2017.

Schiff 6's itinerary program started with a very special voyage. This was not only the "Inaugural Cruise" but also a "repositioning cruise" and a Transatlantic crossing. The 15-night crossing itinerary (from Germany to the USA) started from Hamburg and ended in homeport Bayonne (Cape Liberty NJ, New York) in September 2017.

There were two roundtrip Caribbean itineraries out of NYC available for booking. The ship's maiden voyage to the Caribbean started on October 27, 2017 (14-night) visiting the Dominican Republic.

Two Bahamas cruises visited Norfolk VA, Charleston SC, Port Canaveral and Miami (in Florida) and Nassau. The liner also operated on a total of three Canada New England cruises (TUI's first-ever) out of NYC with duration 10-nights.
