List of Carnival Cruise Directors by Ship for August and September 2023

by Prof. Cruise · August 2, 2023

A cartoon "cruise director" with text that reads: List of Carnival cruise directors by ship for Aug and Sept 2023.

One of the most common questions I receive and see asked on cruise boards and social media sites is: Who will my cruise director be? To which there are always several follow up questions asked by new cruisers to the effect of: What the heck is a cruise director? Well I’m here to answer both of those questions! First…

What does a Cruise Director do?

Besides not sleep, smile through exhaustion and frustration, and dish out almost as many corny jokes as yours truly? Quite a lot! In fact, cruise directors are the most visible crew members onboard a cruise ship and often work up to 16 hours per day with no days off during their contract period (usually lasting around 4 months, but up to 9 months in some cases). While passengers will see them constantly out and about introducing shows, MC’ing activities and events, and interacting with guests, they are also responsible for behind-the-scenes scheduling and coordination of all entertainment and activities and certain safety protocols.

Many regular Carnival cruisers have a favorite cruise director they look forward to sailing with. So, let’s get to our second question, who will the cruise director be on my Carnival cruise?

Who will the Cruise Director be on my upcoming Carnival Cruise?

Wondering who the cruise director will be on your upcoming Carnival cruise? Find the list of cruise directors by ship for the months of August and September 2023 here.

Important notes: * There is usually a week of overlap in the contracts of a current cruise director and their replacement. So, if you’re booked on the last sailing of a certain cruise director, you may actually see more of their replacement who is gearing up to take over. I’ve noted the exact “sign-off” and “sign-on” dates during August and September for each cruise director where there is overlap. ** While I try my best to keep this up-to-date, schedules sometimes change at the last minute, so I can’t guarantee this will always be 100% accurate. If you need 100% certainty as to who your cruise director will be, I recommend asking John Heald, Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, via the “community” tab on his Facebook page a week or so before your sailing date. ***All photos courtesy of Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Cruise crew

Onboard a Carnival Cruise, the Cruise Director is not just a fancy title; it’s a lifestyle! Picture them as the captain of fun – the face you see, the voice you hear, the charm that ties all the festivities, food and drink together. This vivacious soul doesn’t just make public announcements; they are the life of the party! Whether it’s hosting electric deck parties or conducting vibrant game shows, the Cruise Director ensures the boat rocks in rhythm with laughter, food and drink , and joy.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, the role is of paramount importance. The Carnival Cruise Director orchestrates the entire entertainment brigade, working in harmony with the hotel director and a plethora of entertainers. Their primary quest? Crafting moments that embed themselves in passengers’ memories. Overview of the Carnival Cruise Director Schedule

Cruise Director schedule

Ah, the mysterious and much-anticipated Carnival Cruise Director Schedule ! Think of it as the entertainment compass for your cruise voyage. This schedule doesn’t just tell time; it paints a picture of who will be steering the ship’s entertainment wheel.

Ever experienced that ‘Oh, I know that voice!’ moment onboard? That’s because a cruise director’s essence is so impactful; they can significantly elevate the vacation experience. Believe it or not, having the right cruise director can transform an excellent cruise into an unforgettable one.

Every year, the Carnival Cruise Line unfurls its golden scroll, revealing the cruise director line-up for each ship in their grand fleet. This isn’t merely a list but a passport to entertainment excellence. Each entry announces the cruise director and their tenure on that ship.

However, a word of caution for all the eager planners out there: while this schedule is a beacon, it’s also fluid. Adjustments can and do happen. A unique aspect is the occasional overlap, where passengers might be treated to a duo of cruise directors. Imagine two maestros! But rest assured, one will always be at the helm.

For those sentimental souls (and aren’t we all a bit?), if a particular cruise director has ever made you laugh a tad harder or dance a bit wilder, this schedule can be your guide. Want to relive that magic? Just peek into the schedule to see if your favorite is onboard. Some folks are so smitten that they reshuffle their cruising plans just to sail with their favorite director again. That’s the power of a phenomenal cruise director!

Think of it less like a timetable and more like a treasure map. Instead of ‘X marks the spot’, it’s more ‘Who’s bringing the party tonight?’. This schedule decodes the maestros behind every laugh riot, dance-off, and evening extravaganza. It’s the unseen anchor that ensures smooth sailing in the world of entertainment. So, as you dive deeper into this nautical narrative, get ready to discover the stars steering your journey, one giggle, groove, and gala at a time.

John Heald carnival cruise director

John “The Brit With Wit” Heald : Oh, Johnny boy! No, he’s not the singer of a melodramatic song; he’s the legend with over three decades under his belt at Carnival. While he might have traded in his cruise director hat for the glittery tiara of a “Brand Ambassador”, his unmistakable British humor still reigns supreme.

If you’re cruising around on the ‘www’, hoping to spot John’s cruise director schedule, brace yourself for disappointment. But hey, the silver lining – he’s just one click away on his uproarious Facebook Page, where he’s practically the agony aunt for Carnival enthusiasts.

Leon Smith carnival cruise director

Leon “Mr. Electricity” Smith: 20 years and counting! Leon isn’t just a cruise director; he’s Carnival’s in-house energy drink. With a personality that could rival a bolt of lightning, he’s the human defibrillator ensuring no one’s fun levels flatline. Got cruise blues? Leon’s the man with the tunes!

Alex Siegler cruise director

Alex “The People’s Champ” Siegler : Roll out the red carpet because the ‘Favorite Cruise Director’ – as per several publications – is here. Alex doesn’t just cruise; he builds bridges (not literally) with every passenger, ensuring that every interaction is more memorable than the last. Connecting with him is like finding Wi-Fi in the middle of the ocean – rare and delightful!

Carnival Cruise director Dustin Gabriel

Dustin “Mr. Party Starter” Gabriel: If enthusiasm were contagious, Dustin would be patient zero. Serving on a myriad of Carnival ships, he’s the flame that sets the party on fire and ensures it blazes all night. When Dustin’s onboard, even the ship’s anchor wishes it could dance!

Lee Mason

Lee “Jester from Manchester” Mason: Now, here’s a fellow who can probably make a fish laugh underwater. Lee’s blend of humor ensures that there’s never a dull moment onboard. If keeping passengers entertained were an Olympic sport, Lee would be leaving with a trunk full of gold medals. Our director never misses to shoot a vlog or a chance to entertain.

Jake Miller - The Cruise Maestro

Jake “The Cruise Maestro” Miller: Jake’s not just a name; it’s a brand in the Carnival universe. With accolades like ‘Favorite Cruise Director’ by several journals, Jake is the pied piper of fun, turning every cruise event into an electrifying concert. With Jake, every day is Mardi Gras!

So, the next time you’re on board, look out for these icons. They don’t just set the course; they are the course to unparalleled fun!

Does the carnival cruise director schedule change?

Certainly, various factors can lead to changes in the cruise director’s schedule at Carnival Cruise Line. These may include unforeseen circumstances, internal reshuffling, or personal commitments. While the cruise line aims for consistency in guest experience, adjustments are sometimes necessary. However, passengers are kept informed, and a roster of skilled directors is always ready to step in.

How long is a cruise directors contract?

Cruise Directors on Carnival typically sign contracts lasting 4 to 6 months, although this can vary based on experience and ship itinerary. Once a contract ends, they usually take a break on land to recharge. The duration and cyclical nature of their work ensure they remain energetic and fresh for each stint.

Is Cory Rogers any good on the Allure?

I have not cruised with Cory as CD but had the opportunity to meet him when he came aboard Grandeur to shadow John Blair.  He had just come from Carnival and was there to learn the ropes.  I found him to be very personable and outgoing so I have good expectations for him.

Agree, very nice and approachable guy. 2 days into our 9 nt Indy cruise last month is when he accepted the Allure CD job, so his replacement took over from that point on.

If he was the CD in October on the Allure, I found him to be tolerable but not engaging.... Hope he will not be on the Enchantment. Yawn.

Thanks for keeping track of  the CD's.  Hope to sail with you again before too long..

Why is a CD last name important?  Just wondering.

Just for general identification purposes.  With all the RCI ships and some old and new CDs, a last name just helps to make things clear.

We were on the Anthem's Thanksgiving cruise. CD introduced himself as ...." I am your cruise Director, It's Mark!". Exact words. Got me wondering what his last name or initial of last name was, not that it matters, but just curious.

If you are interested in this thread, then isn't the last name important?  Mark isn't exactly a unique name so you could have different Marks.  Isn't there a Mark Walker (or something like that)?

The current CD on Anthem is Mark Rous.

Surfguyxxx

Just off the Independence OTS; Sophie was probably the worst CD I've encountered.  Monotone voice, hardly any enthusiasm and just boring.

Update...12-2-21   Can anyone update on Freedom, please?

You’re sipping on a refreshing drink, and you hear laughter and excitement coming from various parts of the ship. That’s what a Carnival Cruise feels like – a dreamy escape from reality.

And with the 2023 Carnival Cruise Director Schedule, you’re sure to have an even more remarkable experience, with a lineup of talented and engaging cruise directors who will make your journey even more memorable. So let’s dive in and meet the stars of the seas for 2023!

  • The Carnival Cruise Line has released a 2023 cruise director schedule which is subject to change and guests can double-check the latest information.
  • Each of the Carnival cruise directors brings their own unique style and personality to the role, and the salary of a Carnival cruise director varies depending on their experience, level, and the size of the ship they are working on.
  • The cruise director oversees all of the entertainment team and works closely with the hotel director and entertainers, and they are responsible for hosting events like trivia contests, gameshows, and deck parties.
  • Passengers can find links to their favourite cruise directors’ social media pages, and by following them on Facebook, they can see what they’re up to and stay updated on any changes.

Carnival Fleet Overview

I’m excited to learn more about the Carnival fleet and which ships have which cruise directors on the 2023 schedule!

Carnival operates a fleet of 24 ships, each with its own unique style and personality. From the Mardi Gras and Carnival Miracle to the Carnival Radiance and Carnival Valor, there’s a ship to suit every traveler’s needs.

Some of the top Carnival cruise destinations include the Caribbean, Mexico, and the Bahamas, with ports of call in popular destinations like Cozumel, Nassau, and Grand Cayman. With so many ships and destinations to choose from, guests are sure to find the perfect itinerary for their dream vacation.

And with the cruise directors bringing their engaging personalities and talents to each ship, guests are in for an unforgettable experience.

Cruise Director Role

Managing the entertainment team and closely collaborating with the hotel director and entertainers, my role as a cruise director is crucial to ensuring every guest has an unforgettable experience onboard.

As a cruise director, I’m responsible for hosting various events like trivia contests, gameshows, and deck parties. However, my role is not limited to just hosting events. I also act as a liaison between the guests and the ship’s crew, ensuring that all their needs and concerns are addressed promptly.

Cruise director job satisfaction is high as it’s an exciting and rewarding job where I get to travel the world and meet new people every day. However, it’s not without its challenges. One of the most significant challenges faced by cruise directors is managing the entertainment team and ensuring that they deliver high-quality performances consistently.

Additionally, it can be challenging to deal with unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather conditions or unexpected changes to the itinerary. Despite these challenges, being a cruise director is a fulfilling job, and I take pride in ensuring that every guest has a memorable experience onboard.

Cruise Director Salary and Benefits

Receiving free travel, food, and accommodation, as well as other benefits, is one of the perks of being a cruise director at Carnival Cruise Lines.

As for my salary, it’s around $60,000 per year. Of course, the salary varies depending on the level of experience and the size of the ship one is working on. But even with the lower end of the salary range, the benefits that come with the job are already a great deal.

However, being a cruise director is not just about the salary and the benefits. It’s a job that requires hard work, dedication, and passion for entertaining people. It’s a job that demands one to have excellent communication skills, creativity, and the ability to work well under pressure.

So, is it worth the job? If you love traveling, meeting new people, and making a difference in someone’s vacation, then it definitely is. And if you’re interested in becoming a Carnival Cruise Director, my tip is to gain experience in the entertainment industry, build a strong network, and showcase your skills and personality in your application.

Cruise Director Personality Traits

Being a successful cruise director requires having a personality that shines as bright as the sun. It’s not just about hosting events and making announcements, but also about creating a memorable experience for every guest.

Here are some personality traits and job requirements that make a great cruise director:

  • Engaging: A cruise director needs to be able to connect with people from all walks of life and keep them entertained throughout their trip.
  • Energetic: The job often requires long hours and the ability to keep up with a busy schedule of events and activities.
  • Talented: Cruise directors may need to have skills in areas such as singing, dancing, or comedy to add an extra level of entertainment to their events.
  • Charismatic: A great cruise director has the ability to make guests feel special and create a sense of community on board the ship.

In addition to these traits, a successful cruise director must also be able to work closely with the rest of the ship’s staff, including the entertainment team and hotel director. They must be able to manage their time effectively and handle unexpected situations with grace and professionalism.

With the right combination of skills and personality traits, a cruise director can create a truly unforgettable experience for every guest.

Q: Let’s get started with your travel experience. How long have you been exploring the world with Royal Caribbean? And what do you do?  Joff : I’ve been a cruise director at Royal Caribbean for 15 years, working with an incredible team to ensure the entertainment and activities offered onboard our ships are top quality. In a sense, it’s my job to make sure our guests are having the best vacation ever!

Q: What’s your favorite part about what you do? Joff: It’s impossible to pick just one because my role is so varied. Watching the ambiance develop throughout the cruise is highly rewarding, and simultaneously, seeing, meeting and engaging so many guests is always a highlight.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about living and working at sea? Joff: Not having to cook !

Q: What’s the most common question you get when people find out you work on cruise ships? Joff: I’m often asked what my favorite destination is, and I have two answers: Sydney, and Villefranche (Nice) in the French Riviera—both of which we’re going to visit on the Ultimate World Cruise.

Q: What is the most memorable moment from your career so far?  Joff: Being asked to debut two ships— Anthem of the Seas in 2015 and Ovation of the Seas in 2016. It has always been a goal of mine to join the start-up team for a brand-new ship and I’m honored to have been part of that process twice!

Q: Where would you say is the best view on board? Joff: Anywhere outside at sunrise or sunset—though I tend to be around for more sunsets!

Q: What item do you always make sure you pack for a cruise?  Joff: Shoelaces. From walking from one end of the ship to another to scaling the rock wall and everything in between, you’ll be moving your feet quite a bit!

Pro tip : Hit the jogging track onboard your ship so you don’t have to miss your daily run while on vacation.

Q: How much time will you be on the Ultimate World Cruise ?  Joff: I’ll spend four months on board from Miami to Beijing, followed by three months from Istanbul and then back to Miami.

Q: What destination are you most looking forward to visiting?  Joff: Port Stanley , the southernmost city in South America. I’m a half-marathon runner and it would be a dream come true to run on the Falklands.

A Cruise Director operates in a dynamic, floating environment, where the ocean and ports of call provide a constantly changing backdrop. Their workspace extends beyond a traditional office, encompassing the entire ship—from the sun decks to the theaters, ensuring they’re always on the move. Equipped with a blend of traditional tools like microphones and modern technology such as tablets for scheduling, they adeptly manage a broad spectrum of activities.

Work hours for a Cruise Director are unconventional, blending early mornings and late evenings, mirroring the ship’s round-the-clock buzz of activities. Dress code varies, from formal attire during evening events to more casual wear during the day. The role demands high interaction levels, requiring excellent communication skills as they engage with guests and coordinate with the crew.

The social environment is vibrant, fostering connections with people from diverse backgrounds. Despite the demanding pace, the opportunity to travel extensively and the unique workplace setting make it a distinctive career path.

Advancement Prospects

A Cruise Director can ascend to higher managerial roles within the cruise line, such as Fleet Director, overseeing multiple ships’ entertainment and activities. Progression often involves demonstrating exceptional leadership, creativity, and guest satisfaction.

To achieve advancement, a Cruise Director should excel in creating innovative programs and show strong financial management skills, ensuring activities are both popular and cost-effective. Experience with diverse cultures and languages is advantageous, reflecting the global nature of cruising.

Success in this role can also open opportunities in corporate offices, focusing on entertainment and program development across the fleet. Building a reputation for enhancing guest experiences and operational efficiency is key.
