Whether you’re planning a road trip across Europe or need a reliable set of wheels for your business travels, this site has got you covered. One of the key features of Economy Bookings is its extensive network of trusted rental car providers. They work with well-known companies such as Hertz, Avis, and Budget, ensuring that customers have access to a wide selection of vehicles at competitive prices. The booking process itself is simple and user-friendly. All you need to do is enter your travel details – destination, dates, and pickup/drop-off locations – and within seconds, Economy Bookings will present you with a range of options tailored to your needs. In addition to convenience and affordability, one notable perk of using Economy Bookings is their 24/7 customer support service. Whether you’re a frequent traveler or someone who likes to plan ahead meticulously before embarking on new adventures,Economy Bookings offers an accessible solution for finding great deals on car rentals around the globe without breaking the bank.

How does it work?

How does Economy Bookings work? Let’s dive into the process and see how this online platform helps you book your next car rental. 1. Search for your ideal car: Start by entering your desired location, dates, and times in the search bar on the Economy Bookings website. The platform will then display a list of available cars from various rental companies. 2. Compare prices and options: Browse through the search results to compare different vehicles based on their features, prices, and customer reviews. You can filter the results based on specific criteria like vehicle type or transmission preference to find exactly what you need. 3. Make a reservation: Once you’ve found your ideal car, click on it to view more details and make a reservation. Fill in all necessary information such as driver’s age, payment method, and any additional extras you may require during your rental period. 4. Confirmation and payment: After providing all required information, review your booking details one last time before proceeding with payment. Economy Bookings accepts various secure payment methods for convenient transactions. 5. Pick up your car: On the day of pick-up, bring along all necessary documents specified in your confirmation email (driver’s license, credit card) to collect your reserved vehicle from the designated rental company counter at the chosen location. 6. The pros and cons of using Economy Bookings

Pros of Using Economy Bookings: 1. Wide Range of Options: One of the major advantages of using Economy Bookings is the vast selection it offers. With access to over 30,000 locations worldwide, you can find a rental car that suits your needs and preferences in almost any destination. 2. Competitive Prices: Another benefit is the competitive pricing offered by Economy Bookings. By comparing prices from various car rental companies, you can often secure a great deal and save money on your transportation expenses. 3. User-Friendly Interface: The website’s interface is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy to navigate through the booking process. You can filter results based on specific criteria such as price range, car type, and more. 4. Flexibility: Economy Bookings provides flexible cancellation policies for most bookings. This means that if your plans change or unforeseen circumstances arise, you have options to modify or cancel your reservation without incurring significant fees. Cons of Using Economy Bookings: 1. Customer Service Issues: Some users have reported difficulties with customer service when encountering issues or needing assistance during their booking experience. 2. Limited Coverage in Certain Areas: While Economy Bookings has an extensive network of locations globally, there may be some regions where availability is limited or not available at all. 3. Additional Fees and Insurance Costs: It’s important to carefully review all terms and conditions before finalizing your booking as additional fees such as airport surcharges or insurance costs may apply depending on the location and rental company selected. 4. Payment Process Challenges : A few customers have experienced challenges with the payment process when using certain forms of payment methods like debit cards instead of credit cards While there are some drawbacks associated with using Economy Bookings such as customer service issues and potential additional fees, its wide range of options at competitive prices makes it a popular choice for many travelers seeking affordable car rentals around the world.

Alternatives to Economy Bookings

Alternatives to Economy Bookings If you’re exploring options beyond Economy Bookings for your travel needs, there are several alternatives worth considering. Each alternative offers its own unique features and benefits, allowing you to find the best fit for your specific requirements. One popular alternative is Booking.com, a well-established platform that provides a wide range of accommodation options worldwide. With an extensive network of hotels, hostels, apartments, and even vacation rentals, Booking.com allows you to compare prices and read reviews from other travelers before making your decision. Another option is Expedia. This online travel agency not only offers hotel bookings but also provides the convenience of booking flights, car rentals, and even vacation packages all in one place. Expedia’s user-friendly interface makes it easy to navigate through various options and secure great deals. For those seeking more personalized experiences or unique lodging choices such as bed-and-breakfasts or boutique hotels, Airbnb could be a suitable alternative. This platform connects travelers directly with hosts who offer accommodations ranging from private rooms to entire homes. Travelocity is another notable player in the online travel industry. Similar to Expedia, Travelocity allows users to book flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises and vacation packages all on their website. They also offer customer support 24/7 which can be helpful when dealing with any unexpected issues during your trip. Lastly but certainly not least is Hotels.com which focuses solely on providing a vast selection of hotel options across different price ranges globally. Their loyalty program rewards frequent customers with free nights after booking a certain number of stays through their platform. These alternatives offer competitive pricing structures along with various features tailored towards different types of travelers’ preferences – whether it’s flexibility in accommodation choices or comprehensive travel planning services.

Pricing can often be a deciding factor when it comes to choosing a service or booking platform. So, let’s take a closer look at the pricing options offered by Economy Bookings. When it comes to car rentals, Economy Bookings provides competitive rates that cater to various budgets and needs. They offer different categories of vehicles, ranging from economy cars to luxury models, allowing customers to choose according to their preferences and budget. One great advantage is that Economy Bookings allows you to compare prices across multiple rental companies in one place. This saves time and effort as you don’t have to visit each company’s website individually. Plus, they often have special deals or discounts available for bookings made through their platform. It’s important to note that rental rates may vary depending on factors such as location, duration of rental, and vehicle availability. Keep in mind any additional costs like insurance coverage or optional extras when comparing prices. The pricing offered by Economy Bookings is reasonable and transparent. However, it’s always recommended to compare prices with other booking platforms or directly with rental companies before making a final decision. Remember: It’s not just about finding the cheapest option; it’s about getting the best value for your money while ensuring a reliable and enjoyable experience during your trip!

After a thorough evaluation and review, it is clear that Economy Bookings offers a convenient and reliable platform for booking rental cars. With its wide selection of vehicles, competitive prices, and user-friendly interface, it is definitely worth considering for your next trip. One of the major advantages of using Economy Bookings is the sheer number of options available to choose from. Whether you need a compact car for city exploration or a spacious SUV for a family road trip, you can find the perfect vehicle to suit your needs. The website’s intuitive search feature allows you to easily filter through various categories such as car type, transmission preference, and price range. Furthermore, Economy Bookings provides transparent pricing with no hidden fees or surprises upon arrival at your destination. This gives peace of mind knowing that what you see on the website is what you will pay in reality. Additionally, their customer support team is readily available to assist with any inquiries or issues that may arise during the booking process. However, like any service provider, there are some potential drawbacks to consider when using Economy Bookings. Some users have reported experiencing longer than expected wait times when picking up their rental car from certain suppliers. It is important to carefully read reviews and feedback from other customers before making a final decision. If you’re looking for alternatives to Economy Bookings, there are several reputable competitors in the market such as Rentalcars.com and Kayak.com which offer similar services with their own unique features. In terms of pricing comparison among these platforms including alternatives depends on factors such as location-specific availability and seasonal fluctuations in demand. Therefore conducting research across multiple platforms would be beneficial when searching for the best deal possible. In conclusion (without explicitly stating “in conclusion”), Economy Bookings provides an overall positive experience by offering a wide range of vehicles at competitive prices while maintaining transparency throughout the booking process. By taking into account both its advantages and limitations alongside alternative options within this space – travellers can make an informed decision based on their individual preferences and needs.

Tips on booking cheap flights.

Looking for the best time to buy airline tickets to get a cheap flight to everywhere? We’ve got you covered anytime, anywhere. Here’s how to find the best deal for flight booking no matter where you want to go in the world.

Which day of the week is the best day to buy cheap airline tickets?

For both U.S. domestic and international travel, Sundays can be cheaper for airline ticket purchases. Fridays tend to be the most expensive day to book a flight. Booking on the right day of the week could save you up to 6% on your airfare, according to historical data*.

When is the best time to buy airline tickets?

Based on 2020 And 2021 global flight data for Economy tickets, prices usually start to increase 56 days before departure for domestic flights. When traveling internationally, prices usually start to increase 21 days before departure*. Keep in mind that this isn’t a hard-and-fast rule; keeping an eye on prices is a good idea when trying to find the best airfare deals. Compare fares across different airlines, and set up a price alert for your preferred route.

Which are the cheapest days to fly?

Analysis of domestic and international airfare prices shows that flying out on Fridays can be cheaper. Many travelers start their trips on Sundays, so your chances of a lower price are better when departing early in the week instead. Starting your trip on a Friday could be almost 11% cheaper than air travel on Sundays, so book flights online wisely*!

Which is the cheapest month to fly?

The cheapest month to fly can vary depending on where you’re going, so finding the best rates largely comes down to avoiding peak travel times for your destination. If you’re looking for cheap international flights , the most expensive month tends to be February, while the cheapest is November with cheap flights in November offering potential savings of up to 34.6% relative to February. Cheap domestic flights work a bit differently, with March being the most expensive and August being the least expensive with cheap flights in August offering savings of up to 35%*.

You can also filter for flights based on your budget, such as looking for cheap flights under $200 specifically.

How can I get cheap last-minute flight deals?

The historical data analysis of flight pricing patterns shows that you can still find amazing airfare deals 3 weeks prior to departure* when traveling domestically. International last-minute flights offer great deals 2 weeks prior to departure if you’re flying premium, but economy travelers may want to strive for no less than 4 weeks out*. Try to stay flexible with travel dates, airports, and nonstop/layover flights to find the cheapest flights on Expedia. Whether you’re planning a quick business trip or a spontaneous holiday with friends, you’ll have your choice of last-minute flights, roundtrip, or multicity flights on Expedia. You’ll find everything you need for your travels all in one place — and all at the right price.

How do I book with Expedia?

Booking your flight with Expedia is easy, as all you have to do is implement your travel dates, departure destination, like flights from Atlanta or flights from Hartsfield-Jackson , and arrival destination into the search. Then, all the available flights for those dates and destinations will appear. You can use search filters to narrow down the results as well based on a variety of factors like the airline, number of stops, departure time, and policies like seat choice and refundable bookings. Additionally, travelers may alter their search for round-trip flights, one-way flights, and multicity flights.

What should I look out for when booking flights?

Several factors go into any flight booking, and you’ll need to keep an eye out for them all to ensure that you get the travel time, luggage policy, airline, and class you want. Consider which airport is closest to your ultimate destination (travelers to Los Angeles may prefer flights to LAX over flights to PSP , and make sure that the flight will accommodate all the luggage you plan on bringing. Additionally, consider the different flight classes including economy flights for functionality and premium flights if you want to enjoy a more relaxing experience.

Where’s the cheapest place to travel?

The cheapest place to travel can be in the same country, like Chicago. Flights to Chicago are fairly affordable no matter where you’re coming from in the continental United States. Flights to Las Vegas tend to be pretty affordable as well. While the Vegas airport isn’t a hub for any major airline, it does have plenty of competition to keep prices relatively low.

Where can I fly for cheap?

Staying within a strict budget still allows you to find plenty of cheap flights, even to destinations like Puerto Rico. In fact, flights to Puerto Rico don’t even require U.S. citizens to have a passport. Flights to Alberta and other destinations in Canada can be fairly affordable as well.

Is it cheaper to buy flights last minute?

Flight tickets can be cheaper at the last minute depending on how late you’re actually booking, where you’re going, and the kind of flight you opt for. For domestic flights with Economy tickets, prices usually start to increase 3 weeks before departure, and 4 weeks for international flights, according to historical data*.

Are fully refundable flights available?

Yes, several fully refundable flights are available and will be labeled as such right on your search results page in green text. You may also filter for fully refundable flights specifically to eliminate all flights from your results that don’t qualify. Just make sure to check the specific policy for each flight before booking.

I planned a quick vacation and was going to rent a car. 2 hours after making the reservation I had to cancel due to family emergency. They canceled it and still charged me. No credit for future bookings nothing. Called customer service and got through after 4 calls. Was told I was unreasonably stupid for wanting my money back. Now I have spam texts coming in at all hours of the day. Mmmmmm I think I know who sold my number. Don’t use.

Developer Response ,

I'm truly sorry to hear about your negative experience. Our goal is to provide a seamless service and it sounds like we fell short this time. Regarding your refund request, I encourage you to send an email to [email protected] detailing your issue for a more personalized follow-up. As for the spam messages, we assure you that EconomyBookings respects customer privacy and doesn't share personal information. I apologize for the inconvenience and promise we'll do everything in our power to resolve these issues to your satisfaction.

This is the worst experience I’ve had in my life

I went to pick up the car I paid for through economy booking website at thrifty. According to the reservation I was supposed to get Ford Expedition or similar in size. I get there and they gave me a smaller size car. I tried multiple times to contact their office but there was no answer ever. I had to pay double the amount I reserved the car for so the rental company can give me the car I originally paid for. So this so far, I paid for a car, rental company didn’t hold up their side of deal and made me pay double the amount. I was there with my wife and three kids. Imagine how difficult it was for me to sit in rental office for three hours during pandemic and people coming in and out. I tried resolving the issue with economy booking through emails, which is also the worst customer service because they don’t respond to your case until after 28 days. And then what they told me” it looks like your issue was resolved because you got the same car”. STUPID. WTH I demanded a refund and they tell me you ended up getting the car. Ya I got the car but only because I paid double the amount I paid you guys. I do not recommend this rental company to anyone and even rental companies that work with this company. They are cheating their customers and that is not acceptable in any way.
I'm extremely sorry to hear about the inconvenience you've faced. I can fully understand how frustrating this experience must have been for you and your family. We take such matters seriously and would like to investigate this further. Could you please send an email detailing your experience to [email protected]? We'll ensure to expedite the process and help you get a resolution at the earliest. Rest assured, EconomyBookings is committed to its customers' satisfaction.

Total rip off and scam — should be illegal!

I used it to book a car in Spain and paid 93EUR for a useless voucher. Turns out in the fine print, you have to have international driver’s license and have to buy a full tank of gas. For the car I rented, one tank of tank would cost about 80EUR at any gas station even now when gas prices are at a 3 year high. But the rental company wants to charge 165EUR for a full tank of gas. When I finally arrived at the DELPASO (local car rental company doing business with this app) after waiting for the shuttle bus for 30 minutes, they already had a sheet printed out showing me my options. First option is to pay 181EUR to rent from them directly and just discard the voucher from EconomyBookings, or the second option is to pay the 165EUR as described above, which I couldn’t do because I only have my U.S. drivers license and don’t have international drivers license. So I had to just discard the voucher and wasted 93EUR. I will never use this app or DELPASO again. Stick with the major international car rental agencies. These local companies have tricks up their sleeves using third party brokers to rip you off.
I'm genuinely sorry to hear about the inconvenience you experienced. I understand that the unexpected requirements and fees presented a difficulty for you. I assure you, we value your feedback and take such situations seriously. Please email us at [email protected] so we can review your case and execute measures to rectify this situation.

  • There are only cars with good ratings. Clients highly estimate the cleanliness and technical state of cars provided by Economy Bookings due to its collaboration with well-known and reputable agencies such as Alamo, Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, National, Thrifty, Enterprise and more. Also, the company works with local car rentals that provide the best service and have good customer reviews.
  • If at any time something is wrong, Economy Bookings support service is there for you. Whether you have a question at the time of booking, renting or returning a car, you’ll get a full support.

How to Present the Program

Now that you know about the advantages of Economy Bookings services, it’s time to decide how to present them to your audience in the most engaging way.

  • Personal experience. We recommend that you use Economy Bookings services once, or a few times, to get a better understanding of the company and be able to share hands-on experience and photos. Also, consider advertising car rental services together with tours. Tell your readers that there are a few interesting excursions in the next town they can get to with a rented car.
  • Service review. This type of content is similar to sharing personal experiences, but you’ll tell more about the booking process and answer your readers’ comments in this case.
  • Guidance to renting a car abroad. In regard to how to book a vehicle, what to pay attention to, what car to rent depending on the city and more. Think of choosing a few countries with the best conversion rates (you’ll see the list at the end of the article) and write a how-to guide for each one. By the way, you can go one step further and advertise a couple of rental services. An article comparing different car rental services will be more useful to readers and won’t look like mere advertisement.
  • Rental tips. One example is “10 tips on how to rent a car in Paris.” Such article will be similar to writing a guide, but with a smaller scope. Also, titles with numbers always attract attention, as they appeal to readers’ logic and promise well-structured content.
  • Calculate the travel budget or rental costs for a few days. You can present calculations for an entire trip, including the car rental. Or, write about the budget necessary for taking a car. For example: “How much it costs to rent a car for a week in Athens.” Also, consider enriching the text by providing readers with descriptions of different rental companies and car classes.
  • Comparison of car rental and other transportation options such as trekking, taxi, public transport, transfer, renting a bike and more. Consider advertising car rentals together with transfers or motor vehicles rental services on BikesBooking.

America’s Foreign Vacations Tell Us Something About the U.S. Economy

Prices are high, but Americans are opening their wallets for international flights and hotels. It’s the latest evidence of consumer resilience.

People posing for photos in front of the glass pyramid in the courtyard of the Louvre, a museum in Paris.

By Jeanna Smialek

This story was reported from Paris, London and Washington.

Forget Emily. These days, a whole flood of Americans are in Paris.

People spent 2020 and 2021 either cooped up at home or traveling sparingly and mostly within the continental United States. But after Covid travel restrictions were lifted for international trips last summer, Americans are again headed overseas.

While domestic leisure travel shows signs of calming — people are still vacationing in big numbers, but prices for hotels and flights are moderating as demand proves strong but not insatiable — foreign trips are snapping back with a vengeance. Americans are boarding planes and cruise ships to flock to Europe in particular, based on early data.

According to estimates from AAA, international travel bookings for 2023 were up 40 percent from 2022 through May. That is still down about 2 percent from 2019, but it’s a hefty surge at a time when some travelers are being held back by long passport processing delays amid record-high applications. Tour and cruise bookings are expected to eclipse prepandemic highs, with especially strong demand for vacations to major European cities.

Paris, for example, experienced a huge jump in North American tourists last year compared with 2021, according to the city’s tourism bureau. Planned air arrivals for July and August of this year climbed by another 14.4 percent — to nearly 5 percent above the 2019 level.

“This year is just completely crazy,” said Steeve Calvo, a Parisian tour guide and sommelier whose company — The Americans in Paris — has been churning out visits to Normandy and French wine regions. He attributes some of the jump to a rebound from the pandemic and some to television shows and social media.

“‘Emily in Paris’: I never saw so many people in Paris with red berets,” he said, noting that the signature chapeau of the popular Netflix show’s heroine started to pop up on tourists last year. Other newcomers are eager to take coveted photos for their Instagram pages.

“In Versailles, the Hall of Mirrors, I call it the Hall of Selfie,” Mr. Calvo said, referring to a famous room in the palace.

Robust travel booking numbers and anecdotes from tour guides align with what companies say they are experiencing: From airlines to American Express, corporate executives are reporting a lasting demand for flights and vacations.

“The constructive industry backdrop is unlike anything that any of us have ever seen,” Ed Bastian, the chief executive officer at Delta Air Lines, said during a June 27 investor day . “Travel is going gangbusters, but it’s going to continue to go gangbusters because we still have an enormous amount of demand waiting.”

Transportation Security Administration data shows that the daily average number of passengers who passed through U.S. airport checkpoints in June 2023 was 2.6 million, 0.5 percent above the June 2019 level, based on an analysis by Omair Sharif at Inflation Insights.

And in many foreign airports, the burst of American vacationers is palpable: Customs lines are packed with U.S. tourists, from Paris’s Charles de Gaulle to London’s Heathrow. The latter saw 8 percent more traffic from North America in June 2023 than in June 2019, based on airport data.

In a weird way, the rebound in foreign travel may be taking some pressure off U.S. inflation.

International flight prices, while surging for some routes, are not a big part of the U.S. Consumer Price Index, which is dominated by domestic flight prices. In fact, airfares in the inflation measure dropped sharply in June from the previous month and are down nearly 19 percent from a year ago.

That is partly because fuel is cheaper and partly because airlines are getting more planes into the sky. Many pilots and air traffic controllers had been laid off or had retired, so companies struggled to keep up when demand started to recover after the initial pandemic slump, pushing prices sharply higher in 2022.

“We just didn’t have enough seats to go around last year,” Mr. Sharif said, explaining that while personnel issues persist, so far this year the supply situation has been better. “Planes are still totally packed, but there are more planes.”

And as people flock abroad, it is sapping some demand from hotels and tourist attractions in the United States. International tourists have yet to return to the United States in full force, so they are not entirely offsetting the wave of Americans headed overseas.

Domestic travel is hardly in a free fall — July 4 weekend travel probably set new records, per AAA — but tourists are no longer so insatiable that hotels can keep raising room rates indefinitely. Prices for lodging away from home in the U.S. climbed by 4.5 percent in the year through June, which is far slower than the 25 percent annual increases hotel rooms were posting last spring. There is even elbow room at Disney World .

Even if it isn’t inflationary, the jump in foreign travel does highlight something about the U.S. economy: It’s hard to keep U.S. consumers down, especially affluent ones.

The Fed has been raising interest rates to cool growth since early 2022. Officials have made it more expensive to borrow money in hopes of creating a ripple effect that would cut into demand and force companies to stop lifting prices so much.

Consumption has slowed amid that onslaught, but it hasn’t tanked. Fed officials have taken note, remarking at their last meeting that consumption had been “ stronger than expected ,” minutes showed.

The resilience comes as many households remain in solid financial shape. People who travel internationally skew wealthier, and many are benefiting from a rising stock market and still-high home prices that are beginning to prove surprisingly immune to interest rate moves.

Those who do not have big stock or real estate holdings are experiencing a strong job market, and some are still holding onto extra savings built up during the pandemic. And it is not just vacation destinations feeling the momentum: Consumers are still spending on a range of other services .

“There’s this last blowoff of spending,” said Kathy Bostjancic, chief economist for the insurance company Nationwide Mutual.

It could be that consumer resilience will help the U.S. economy avoid a recession as the Fed fights inflation. As has been the case at American hotels, demand that stabilizes without plummeting could allow for a slow and steady moderation of price increases.

But if consumers remain so ravenous that companies find they can still charge more, it could prolong inflation. That’s why the Fed is keeping a close eye on spending.

Ms. Bostjancic thinks consumers will pull back starting this fall. They are drawing down their savings, the labor market is cooling, and it may simply take time for the Fed’s rate increases to have their full effect.

But when it comes to many types of travel, there is no end in sight yet.

“Despite economic headwinds, we’re seeing very strong demand for summer leisure travel,” said Mike Daher, who leads the U.S. Transportation, Hospitality & Services practice at the consulting firm Deloitte.

Mr. Daher attributes that to three driving forces. People missed trips. Social media is luring many to new places. And the advent of remote work is allowing professionals — “what we call the laptop luggers,” per Mr. Daher — to stretch out vacations by working a few days from the beach or the mountains.

Mr. Calvo, the tour guide, is riding the wave, taking Americans on tours that showcase Paris’s shared history with France and driving them in minivan tours to Champagne.

“I have no clue if it’s going to last,” he said.

Your section on hotel savings was superb. I haven’t heard of any of those rebooking services till now!

@Nico: Yay! Glad I could be of service 🙂

Thank you so much for this information. I knew about some of these sites, but you just opened my eyes to a wider world of budget traveling. It was especially nice to read that its possible to be reimbursed for delayed flights, something I wish I had know years ago.

@Terra: thank you for the kind words. It’s something I learned just in the last year, as well. Def good to know! 🙂

I am planning an overseas trip this summer, so I went looking for travel hacks and I found your blog. This one has every information that I need; it is also very comprehensive. As a first time traveler to foreign countries, your write-up absolutely is heaven’s sent. Keep writing!

>There’s a big debate in the travel community over whether doing this can actually save you money by showing you better prices

I’m not sure why there would be a debate about the cookie thing. Wasn’t it actually proven that that was the case? I mean, it doesn’t always happen but it does occur, and if you notice the price increases clearing your cookies just might make it go back down.

@Emily: I know some people don’t believe it. Wasn’t aware it was proven, but I’ve always suspected it to be true!

I never thought of the hidden flight option! Wow, this is genius! Overall, you have awesome tips – thank you so much!

8 Tips to Fly Business Class for the Price of Economy

W ith flight delays, cancellations, and rising prices, flying has become more stressful than ever. But if you can upgrade your experience from economy to business class, you may enjoy your time in the air a little bit more.

I’m a Travel Agent: 7 Costliest Mistakes People Make When Planning Vacations

Also: How To Get Cash Back on Your Everyday Purchases

Fortunately, there are ways to find cheap airline tickets – and you don’t necessarily have to fly the cheapest airlines to get them. Here are eight ways to find cheap flight tickets without spending hours booking travel or settling for economy class seats.

Sponsored: Double The Power of Your Dollar: Stretch Your Money With These Perks

1. Use Google Flights (Or Another Service) To Track Prices Automatically

Google Flights recently announced new features that make it easier to find cheap airline tickets, including business class flights, GOBankingRates recently reported . To use this service, you’ll need to be logged in to your Google account.

Once you set up the flights you want to track, you’ll get an email if the price drops dramatically. You’ll also get an email if it looks like the price may rise soon.

Other services, including Going, Expedia Flights Deals and Skyscanner, offer similar features. These services can also help you spot fare mistakes that can lead to substantial savings. ViaTravelers.com reported that some readers of their site recently found business class tickets for “just a few hundred dollars,” when they normally sell for $16,000 each.

If you receive a notification of a deal like this, don’t hesitate to make a purchase. Business class seats are normally refundable if your travel plans change.

2. Be Flexible About When You Fly

Having some flexibility in your travel dates can often lead to significant savings. Google Flights uses historical data to discover the cheapest dates and times to book a flight as well as the cheapest times to fly. Set up alerts for flexible travel dates to improve your odds of snagging cheap business class tickets.

3. Ask for An Upgrade at the Gate

Airlines don’t issue upgrades as frequently as they used to, but it never hurts to ask. Do everything you can to improve your odds by being nice and friendly to the agent. If there is a special occasion, such as a honeymoon or birthday celebration, it doesn’t hurt to mention it.

Also, understand that the bigger the airplane, the more likely you might get an upgrade. Research the plane in advance so you understand the odds. A flight with more empty seats, obviously, offers a better chance of an upgrade so flying during off-peak times may help your chances, too.

Check in as early as possible, too, so your name will be first on the list for potential upgrades. And let the airline know you’re willing to pay for a better seat.

Sometimes, you may be able to get a business class upgrade for a small fee on the day of your flight. But other times, the airline will grant this perk free.

4. Be Willing To Wait for a Later Flight

If you are on an overbooked flight and you volunteer to give up your seat, you may earn an upgrade to business class along with a travel credit for a future flight, as well as cash. The amount of compensation you receive depends on how desperate the airline is to free up space without mandating people to give up their seats, how overbooked the flight is, and how many other passengers are willing to give up seats.

5. Keep an Eye on Your Email for Upgrades

If your flight still has business class seats available a few days before your flight, they might email passengers offering an upgrade at a substantial discount.

Sometimes, customers will have to bid for the upgraded seat. You will enter the price you’re willing to pay and will find out shortly before your flight if your offer was accepted. Other times, you can pay whatever rate the airline is asking to guarantee a business class seat.

Of course, this tip involves booking an economy class fare and hoping you get lucky; if you have a long-distance international flight where roomier seats are imperative for you, try other methods to get a cheap business class flight.

6. Leverage Credit Card Points or Frequent Flyer Miles To Pay for the Ticket

If you have a sign-up bonus from a top-tier travel rewards credit card or have accrued points for several months, you may qualify for a business class ticket for free. You might also be able to upgrade a cheap airline ticket in economy class using your miles or points.

Using the same card for all your purchases and booking with the same airlines frequently (with a carrier that also allows you to transfer your credit card points) can help you earn the points you need for free or cheap business class fares.

7. Earn Complimentary Upgrades as a Frequent Flyer

If you earn enough miles on your airline of choice, you might qualify for free upgrades without having to cash in extra points. United Airlines, Delta Airlines, American Airlines and others offer many of their top-tier rewards members free upgrades on many flights. Read the fine print on your agreement or speak to a representative to see what’s possible.

8. Use a Travel Agent To Help You Find Cheap Airline Tickets

While you can track flight prices, call for upgrades, or keep an eye out for upgrade emails, it requires an investment of time and legwork for the extra leg room. Travel agents specialize in making sure their clients get the lowest priced fares and plenty of perks.

Sometimes, a travel agent’s industry relationships and leverage are enough to secure free upgrades to business class.

Bottom Line

You can find business class tickets for the price of economy – or even less. You just have to understand how airline bookings work and be privy to a few frequent flyer secrets to get those cheap flight tickets .

  • The average price for a round-trip, business class ticket on an international flight is $1,911 in the first two weeks of September 2023, according to data from Kayak.
  • You can upgrade from economy to business class in many ways. If you are willing to pay for an upgrade, you should be able to change your ticket as long as business class seats are available. You can also trade in frequent flyer points for an upgrade. You can sacrifice your seat for a later flight. Airlines often offer cash, plus business class upgrades, to travelers willing to give up their seat on an overbooked flight.
  • You can find the lowest business class fare by booking through a travel agent or setting up price alerts with a service like Google Flights.
  • As travelers seek that premium experience of business class, tickets have skyrocketed. A non-stop flight from New York to Paris on Sept. 22, 2023 returning one week later went for $980 in economy on Delta Airlines, while business class seats exceeded $5,000 for the same flight.

Successful woman in a business trip

'Expensive in every way': What travelers should expect this summer

Summer travel in 2024 will be "expensive in every way," said Katharine Nohr. And she should know.

She's planning a two-week adventure to Europe in June, which starts with a marathon flight from Honolulu to Zurich, where she'll speak at a conference. Then, she's hopscotching across Europe – to Vienna, then on to the Olympics. Nohr made plans to be in Nantes, France, to watch a soccer game, in Lille for basketball, and in Paris for gymnastics, boxing, and swimming.

Check out   Elliott Confidential , the newsletter the travel industry doesn't want you to read. Each issue is filled with breaking news, deep insights, and exclusive strategies for becoming a better traveler. But don't tell anyone!

All told, it'll set her back five figures despite her best efforts, which include flying economy class and staying in the lowest-priced hotels.

"The trip is pricey, even with my efforts to economize," said Nohr, an attorney from Honolulu. "But it's a once-in-my-life adventure."

Flying cars are coming! Here's how they could change the way you travel.

'Flying feels different': Here's how air travel has changed recently

Summer travelers are pursuing exciting, expensive vacations

Nohr is part of a wave of travelers who are making big plans for this summer. The itineraries are exciting – and expensive.

Pretty much every barometer of travel intent is up for the summer travel season. Inflation and unemployment are low, and consumer sentiment and curiosity are high, fueling an unprecedented interest in travel during the summer of 2024.

"Bookings are rising," said Susan Sherren, who runs Couture Trips , a travel agency. "Unfortunately, hotel, tour, and air prices are not falling. So, if you plan on hitting the road this summer, make sure you are willing to splash some cash."

Travel companies say they're overwhelmed with summer reservations.

"The travel economy is booming," said Joe Ialacci, owner of Yacht Hampton Boating Club , a company that rents yachts in Sag Harbor, New York. He's seeing a 40% increase in rentals this summer compared to last year as Americans shift some of their vacation dollars to domestic destinations.

Prices aren't the only thing trending higher. People's expectations for their summer vacation are also higher than at any time since the pandemic, said Sangeeta Sadarangani, CEO of Crossing , a multinational travel agency headquartered in London.

"They're embracing the unknown," she said.

And one of the great unknowns is travel prices. How much higher will they be?

What will prices be like this summer?

It depends on where you're going. There's good news if you're traveling within the U.S.: flights and hotels are a little less expensive than last summer . But they're rising elsewhere. Here's the breakdown:

  • Airfares are mixed. Domestic roundtrip airfares for summer will peak at $315 per ticket, according to the travel platform Hopper . Flights to Europe are cheaper, too. They've fallen 10% from last year to $882. But flights to South America are up 2% and flights to Canada have risen 7%. You'll pay an average of $708 to fly south of the border and $419 to head north.
  • U.S. hotel rates are down. Domestically, they're about the same as last year at an average of $206 per night.
  • Car rental prices are rising. Average domestic car rental rates are only up 3% this summer to $42 per day on a four-day rental, according to Hopper.

But you can avoid the high prices with a little strategic planning, experts say.

What to avoid this summer

American travelers are becoming more predictable in their summer vacation choices, said John Lovell, president of Travel Leaders Group . Immediately after the pandemic, they embarked on "revenge" vacations to far-flung locations. Now they're returning to more conventional vacations.

"We continue to see U.S. travelers heading back to the more traditional locations across Europe this year, like London, Rome, Athens and Munich," he said.

There are places that will be exceptionally busy – and exceptionally pricey – this summer.

  • Paris during the Olympics. The Olympic Games are taking place in Paris this summer. Rooms are more than double the normal rates . which is typical of the Olympics. Paris is already crowded with tourists during the summer, so you can probably imagine what it will be like with the Olympics. Zut, alors!
  • Taylor Swift is touring Europe this summer. Prices will be higher and the crowds will be denser. "If you aren't planning to attend one of her concerts, I recommend planning around those European cities when she's there," said Betsy Ball, co-founder of Euro Travel Coach . (Want to know if your schedules overlap? Here's Taylor Swift's concert schedule .)
  • Other big summer events. Even if you steer clear of Taylor and the Olympics, you're still not out of the woods. There's the UEFA Euro 2024 football tournament in Germany in June. There's the Tour de France in July, which begins in Florence and finishes in Nice. France is also hosting the Paralympic Games in August and September, which will take place in Paris, Nice, Marseille and Bordeaux.

Air travel smells worse than ever. Here's how to fix it.

Pay less to fly: New strategies for finding cheap airfares now

When is the best time to book a 2024 summer vacation?

Since this is going to be a busy one, the sooner you book, the better. Hopper recommends buying your airfare two to three months before your departure for domestic flights, and for international – well, it's probably too late to get that rock-bottom fare. If you're reading this in April, you can still find something for late August or early September, according to its airfare experts.

As always, you can save money by booking a flight for midweek instead of on the weekend – and, of course, by keeping far, far away from the big travel holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day.

Also, if you're going overseas, remember their holiday calendar is different. For example, half of Europe shuts down during August for summer vacation. It's worth a look-up, otherwise, you could face some real disappointments.

Strategies for traveling better during the summer

One tactic that consistently works is splitting your getaway into two sections. Take that required summer vacation with your family somewhere less expensive during the high season. Then, wait until shoulder season for the big trip.

That's what Ross Copas, a retired electrician from Tweed, Canada, is doing during the summer of 2024. It's a road trip across the northern U.S. by motorcycle – New York to Washington State, and then back east through Canada.

Then he's heading to Amsterdam in September for a 23-day European river cruise. He said the late summer getaway will be costly, but he doubts fares will fall anytime soon. "So price be damned," he added.

Actually, that's pretty smart. I took the same cruise he's planning on Viking River Cruises many years ago, and it was worth every penny.

With hotel rates rising in some places this summer, this is the right time to consider alternatives. Monica Fish, a writer from Glen Rock, N.J., is headed to Ireland to catch one of Taylor Swift's performances. She said hotel rooms in Dublin are overpriced if they're even available. But Fish found an affordable vacation rental.

"We just had to book it farther in advance than we normally would," she said.

Go ahead, follow the crowds this summer

I think it's fine to follow the crowds this summer. I'll be doing it. I'm planning to rent an apartment for a month in Switzerland with Blueground, a long-term apartment rental company. Then I'm crashing on a friend's sofa in Spain, then heading to Sweden to see other friends and visiting my brother in Finland. Yes, travel writers know people everywhere .

But don't follow the crowds off a cliff. There are places even I won't go. I might take the four-hour train trip from Zurich to Paris in June to check out my favorite patisseries, but I wouldn't go anywhere near the City of Lights during the summer games in July unless I made a reservation a long time ago.

And Taylor Swift? Puh-leeze. I'm more of a jazz guy.

The Moscow Metro Museum of Art: 10 Must-See Stations

There are few times one can claim having been on the subway all afternoon and loving it, but the Moscow Metro provides just that opportunity.  While many cities boast famous public transport systems—New York’s subway, London’s underground, San Salvador’s chicken buses—few warrant hours of exploration.  Moscow is different: Take one ride on the Metro, and you’ll find out that this network of railways can be so much more than point A to B drudgery.

The Metro began operating in 1935 with just thirteen stations, covering less than seven miles, but it has since grown into the world’s third busiest transit system ( Tokyo is first ), spanning about 200 miles and offering over 180 stops along the way.  The construction of the Metro began under Joseph Stalin’s command, and being one of the USSR’s most ambitious building projects, the iron-fisted leader instructed designers to create a place full of svet (radiance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future), a palace for the people and a tribute to the Mother nation.

Consequently, the Metro is among the most memorable attractions in Moscow.  The stations provide a unique collection of public art, comparable to anything the city’s galleries have to offer and providing a sense of the Soviet era, which is absent from the State National History Museum.  Even better, touring the Metro delivers palpable, experiential moments, which many of us don’t get standing in front of painting or a case of coins.

Though tours are available , discovering the Moscow Metro on your own provides a much more comprehensive, truer experience, something much less sterile than following a guide.  What better place is there to see the “real” Moscow than on mass transit: A few hours will expose you to characters and caricatures you’ll be hard-pressed to find dining near the Bolshoi Theater.  You become part of the attraction, hear it in the screech of the train, feel it as hurried commuters brush by: The Metro sucks you beneath the city and churns you into the mix.

With the recommendations of our born-and-bred Muscovite students, my wife Emma and I have just taken a self-guided tour of what some locals consider the top ten stations of the Moscow Metro. What most satisfied me about our Metro tour was the sense of adventure .  I loved following our route on the maps of the wagon walls as we circled the city, plotting out the course to the subsequent stops; having the weird sensation of being underground for nearly four hours; and discovering the next cavern of treasures, playing Indiana Jones for the afternoon, piecing together fragments of Russia’s mysterious history.  It’s the ultimate interactive museum.

Top Ten Stations (In order of appearance)

Kievskaya station.

economy bookings travel

Kievskaya Station went public in March of 1937, the rails between it and Park Kultury Station being the first to cross the Moscow River.  Kievskaya is full of mosaics depicting aristocratic scenes of Russian life, with great cameo appearances by Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin.  Each work has a Cyrillic title/explanation etched in the marble beneath it; however, if your Russian is rusty, you can just appreciate seeing familiar revolutionary dates like 1905 ( the Russian Revolution ) and 1917 ( the October Revolution ).

Mayakovskaya Station

Mayakovskaya Station ranks in my top three most notable Metro stations. Mayakovskaya just feels right, done Art Deco but no sense of gaudiness or pretention.  The arches are adorned with rounded chrome piping and create feeling of being in a jukebox, but the roof’s expansive mosaics of the sky are the real showstopper.  Subjects cleverly range from looking up at a high jumper, workers atop a building, spires of Orthodox cathedrals, to nimble aircraft humming by, a fleet of prop planes spelling out CCCP in the bluest of skies.

Novoslobodskaya Station

economy bookings travel

Novoslobodskaya is the Metro’s unique stained glass station.  Each column has its own distinctive panels of colorful glass, most of them with a floral theme, some of them capturing the odd sailor, musician, artist, gardener, or stenographer in action.  The glass is framed in Art Deco metalwork, and there is the lovely aspect of discovering panels in the less frequented haunches of the hall (on the trackside, between the incoming staircases).  Novosblod is, I’ve been told, the favorite amongst out-of-town visitors.

Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya Station is one of palatial grandeur.  It seems both magnificent and obligatory, like the presidential palace of a colonial city.  The yellow ceiling has leafy, white concrete garland and a series of golden military mosaics accenting the tile mosaics of glorified Russian life.  Switching lines here, the hallway has an Alice-in-Wonderland feel, impossibly long with decorative tile walls, culminating in a very old station left in a remarkable state of disrepair, offering a really tangible glimpse behind the palace walls.

Dostoevskaya Station

Dostoevskaya is a tribute to the late, great hero of Russian literature .  The station at first glance seems bare and unimpressive, a stark marble platform without a whiff of reassembled chips of tile.  However, two columns have eerie stone inlay collages of scenes from Dostoevsky’s work, including The Idiot , The Brothers Karamazov , and Crime and Punishment.   Then, standing at the center of the platform, the marble creates a kaleidoscope of reflections.  At the entrance, there is a large, inlay portrait of the author.

Chkalovskaya Station

Chkalovskaya does space Art Deco style (yet again).  Chrome borders all.  Passageways with curvy overhangs create the illusion of walking through the belly of a chic, new-age spacecraft.  There are two (kos)mosaics, one at each end, with planetary subjects.  Transferring here brings you above ground, where some rather elaborate metalwork is on display.  By name similarity only, I’d expected Komsolskaya Station to deliver some kosmonaut décor; instead, it was Chkalovskaya that took us up to the space station.

Elektrozavodskaya Station

economy bookings travel

Elektrozavodskaya is full of marble reliefs of workers, men and women, laboring through the different stages of industry.  The superhuman figures are round with muscles, Hollywood fit, and seemingly undeterred by each Herculean task they respectively perform.  The station is chocked with brass, from hammer and sickle light fixtures to beautiful, angular framework up the innards of the columns.  The station’s art pieces are less clever or extravagant than others, but identifying the different stages of industry is entertaining.

Baumanskaya Statio

Baumanskaya Station is the only stop that wasn’t suggested by the students.  Pulling in, the network of statues was just too enticing: Out of half-circle depressions in the platform’s columns, the USSR’s proud and powerful labor force again flaunts its success.  Pilots, blacksmiths, politicians, and artists have all congregated, posing amongst more Art Deco framing.  At the far end, a massive Soviet flag dons the face of Lenin and banners for ’05, ’17, and ‘45.  Standing in front of the flag, you can play with the echoing roof.

Ploshchad Revolutsii Station

Novokuznetskaya Station

Novokuznetskaya Station finishes off this tour, more or less, where it started: beautiful mosaics.  This station recalls the skyward-facing pieces from Mayakovskaya (Station #2), only with a little larger pictures in a more cramped, very trafficked area.  Due to a line of street lamps in the center of the platform, it has the atmosphere of a bustling market.  The more inventive sky scenes include a man on a ladder, women picking fruit, and a tank-dozer being craned in.  The station’s also has a handsome black-and-white stone mural.

Here is a map and a brief description of our route:

Start at (1)Kievskaya on the “ring line” (look for the squares at the bottom of the platform signs to help you navigate—the ring line is #5, brown line) and go north to Belorusskaya, make a quick switch to the Dark Green/#2 line, and go south one stop to (2)Mayakovskaya.  Backtrack to the ring line—Brown/#5—and continue north, getting off at (3)Novosblodskaya and (4)Komsolskaya.  At Komsolskaya Station, transfer to the Red/#1 line, go south for two stops to Chistye Prudy, and get on the Light Green/#10 line going north.  Take a look at (5)Dostoevskaya Station on the northern segment of Light Green/#10 line then change directions and head south to (6)Chkalovskaya, which offers a transfer to the Dark Blue/#3 line, going west, away from the city center.  Have a look (7)Elektroskaya Station before backtracking into the center of Moscow, stopping off at (8)Baumskaya, getting off the Dark Blue/#3 line at (9)Ploschad Revolyutsii.  Change to the Dark Green/#2 line and go south one stop to see (10)Novokuznetskaya Station.
