1. Ski or Snowboard

A ski trip is one of the best guy trips you can do! Some of the best ski resorts in the USA are located out west in Utah and Colorado. These winter wonderlands are perfect for a ski trip!

There are a few simple steps to planning a ski trip .

  • Pick a Location
  • Book a Ski Resort or Lodge
  • Purchase Ski Clothes
  • Rent Skis or Snowboard

If anyone in your group is a beginner skier/snowboarder lessons are essential!  It will make or break your guy trip.  Also, there are better ski resorts for beginners than others.

My dad and his buddies used to do this guy's trip every year or so. They had so much fun hitting the slopes! They loved skiing all day and then coming back to the resort to hot tub.

Skiing is a lot of fun and is a great idea for a guys trip!

2. Los Angeles Sports

Los Angeles in Southern California is home to ten (10!) pro sports teams and is one of the best cities in the world for championship-caliber sports. If you are looking for one of the best cities for a guys weekend, LA is your place!

If you and your friends love sports, then ditch the minivan and kids soccer for a weekend and head to LA! October is the best time to go – the weather is still warm enough to relax in the sun at Santa Monica Beach or workout at the famous Muscle Beach and hit up a few games in a single weekend trip.

Pick your Sport

Depending on the time of year, take your pick from NBA pre-season / early season, NFL , college football, soccer, and playoff baseball because they’re all going on in October.

A trip to Dodger Stadium would be a guy weekend to remember. A trip to the iconic Rose Bowl would feature Chip Kelly’s top-15 UCLA Bruins. Or there’s always a reason to catch a game at the Staples Center, with LeBron and the Lakers or Kahwi Leonard and the Clippers.

And on any given Sunday, you can catch a NFL game with either the Rams or the Chargers at the brand new, state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium.

A sports trip to LA with the guys is on of the best guys trip ideas to consider and is one truly worthy of any guys trip bucket list.

Be sure to book your tickets early!

5. Lake Havasu City Arizona

If you’re searching for a fun guys weekend, look no further than Lake Havasu City, Arizona.  This is one of the best guys trip ideas out there!

Less than a three-hour drive from Las Vegas, only 150 miles from Phoenix, and well-known for hosting the jet ski world finals (annually in October), this destination showcasing sparkling blue green water will not disappoint.

Rent Jet Skis

Rent some jet skis upon arrival (or feel free to bring your own) and stay at a   local Airbnb   or at the Nautical Beachfront Resort which offers an infinity pool with a bar as well as a private beach and boat launch.

Things to Do in Lake Havasu City

Visit the famous London Bridge and then enjoy a tasty dinner at La Vita Dolce Italian Bistro & Lounge, Javelina Cantina or Sho-Gun Japanese Cuisine (make hibachi reservations in advance).

Take a 25-minute ferry ride to the California side of the lake (only $2 round trip!) to the Havasu Landing Resort & Casino for a night on the town.  Another option is to enjoy a cruise on a paddler-wheeler boat.

Rafting guys trip.

Another fun activity is to actually raft the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon and enjoy all the stunning views. These adventure tours include camping for the entire stay or you can do easy day tours from the west rim of the Grand Canyon originating from Hoover Dam or Lake Mead Area.

Helicopter Ride

Grand Canyon makes the top 10 guy trip destination USA has to offer.

7. Boulder Colorado

There are endless ways to play outdoors during a long guys weekend in Boulder , one of Colorado’s favorite towns.

Outdoor Adventure for Men

From mountain biking and climbing to fly fishing and paragliding, all with views of the gorgeous Flatirons from almost everywhere. The 150+ miles of hiking trails around town lead up to epic views of the eastern plains or mountain views of the Indian Peaks Wilderness to the west.

Rent Bikes and Explore

Rent bikes to take a brewery or distillery tour around town. Our favorites are Sanitas Brewing (where on-site McDevitt Taco Supply serves up some of the best tacos in town), Oskar Blues, and Ska Street Brewstillery.

Activities in Boulder Colorado

In the summer months, rent tubes and float down the Boulder Creek. During the school year, the University of Colorado is the place to be for all the college games. Visiting in winter? Take the 20-minute drive to Nederland to hit the slopes at Eldora Ski Area.

Hang out nearly anywhere on Pearl St. for the best food and mountain views, at restaurants like West End Tavern, Rio Grande, Avanti F&B, or Rosetta Hall.

Where to Stay

A stay at the outdoor-themed Basecamp Boulder (located right downtown) or at A-Lodge will add even more adventure to your guys getaway.

8. Yellowstone

If you are looking for the best guys weekend ideas, Yellowstone is a great choice. Camping at Yellowstone National Park is a great way to spend your guy vacation with friends. It's a good opportunity to get away from the norm and try something different.

I have some guy friends that do this multiple times a year. They love Yellowstone.

Why is it Awesome for Dudes

It's man vs the wild in a manner of speaking. Doesn't matter if you are an amateur outdoor camper or a hardcore enthusiast, spending time away from the city in nature really gives you some perspective.

Nothing beats hanging out around the fire in the starry night with some cold brews and your buddies to make some good memories. It is the perfect man vacation!

Where to Stay

I suggest camping at the Yellowstone Park / Mountainside KOA site.  It's about 8 miles away from the actual park with plenty of room to stretch your legs.

If you don't feel like camping in a tent, they also have cabins and enough open space to bring in your RV .  It can get cold though so remember to bundle up and keep that firewood aplenty.

Most Popular Sites

Yellowstone has some of the most majestic views. It's hard to pick just one popular site.  First and foremost, you should take part of your time to go see Artist Point which overlooks the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. It's truly breathtaking with the majestic landscape and flowing river.

Old Faithful is also a go to. This geyser is a cornerstone of Yellowstone but if you don't get there in time to see it go off don't worry as it's known for its consistency. Just take a stroll around the trail for the next hour to see the other springs and geysers.

Get ready for the wildlife too. Don't be surprised to see a herd of bison just hanging along the road as you are making your way through the park.  Moose, Elk, Wolves, and Bears are also part of the Yellowstone experience but depending on when you go may be difficult to find.

How Much Time to Spend

You don't need a whole week to explore Yellowstone. If you are making good pace even after you're recovering from the previous night you can see most of it within 3-4 days. But don't feel the need to rush. You want to enjoy this as much as possible.

If you want to take a break and revisit civilization, go to West Yellowstone . There are some great food places along with souvenir shops and general stores.

Yellowstone is one of the best guys trip destinations around.

9. Utah National Park

A guys trip to the mighty five national parks in Utah is a great guys trip idea.  Southern Utah offers adventure unlike anywhere else.  It is one of the best man getaways.

If you would like a longer trip, you can then make your way to Capitol Reef National Park and do a little canyoneering.  There are lots of fun spots to explore.

Wrapping up your trip you can explore Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park .  If you want an extreme guy weekend adventure you can get a permit to hike the Narrows.  Angels Landing is also a must-do hike at Zion.

A Utah National Park road trip is a perfect guys trip.

Alaska is the perfect guys trip!  It is known as  the “Last Frontier”. You can plan an Alaska trip from Denali National Park all the way to Kenai Fjords National Park .  There is adventure just waiting to happen at every stop.

Things to Do in Alaska

There are lots of things to do in Fairbanks , such as the Great Salmon Bake.  If you are a man with a big apatite,  this is the place you want to go.

In Talkeetna you can hire a plane to take you over Denali, river raft, and enjoy the local restaurants.

Awesome Guy Adventures

Anchorage offers some awesome guy adventures. You can bike along the coastal trail and hike in the mountains.  As you head from Anchorage to Seward on a road trip to the Kenai peninsula, there are scenic hikes, glaciers, and animal encounters along the way.

One of the most popular things to do in Seward is deep-sea fishing for salmon fish.  This is the best place to fish as there are many charters to supply and guide your trip.

Time to pack up and start planning a guys trip to Alaska!

11. Golfing

Golfing is a great guy trip idea.  Of course, you can hit your local courses for a few rounds of golf, but you might want to go on an adventure to one of the top 5 golf courses in the US.

13. Fishing

We mention fishing in Alaska which is incredible but there are a lot of great places in the US to fish that would make a perfect location for a guy's fishing trip.

You can go on your own or book a fishing charter to any of these great locations.

Top Places to Fish in the US

  • Florida Keys – Key West Florida
  • Outer Banks – North Carolina
  • Kona – Hawaii
  • Martha's Vineyard – Massachusetts
  • Big Horn River – Montana

15. Thailand Island Hopping

One of the best guy trip destinations for a vacation with your buddies is definitely Thailand. Especially the country's huge island world is breathtaking and so perfect for planning   island hopping in Thailand .

In the south, you experience Thailand from its most beautiful side and have the opportunity to undertake unforgettable paradise islands with your best friends.

One of the most beautiful routes starts in Krabi and leads over several dream islands almost to Malaysia, to the tiny island pearl Koh Lipe.

Things to Do While Island Hopping in Thailand

During your trip island hopping, you will bathe at absolute paradise beaches, can discover clownfish and reef sharks while snorkeling, swim through sea caves and explore a pirate hideout, cruise, take exciting scooter rides, and experience some breathtaking views.

16. Gorilla Trek in the DRC

Merely mentioning the Democratic Republic of Congo will probably send the girls running. For the guys, the Congo is one of Africa's most exotic and adventurous places perfect for a thrilling adventure.

Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla trekking   in Virunga National Park is perhaps the most extraordinary wildlife experience on earth. Park rangers guide small groups of visitors into the jungle-clad volcanoes where these magnificent beasts live. Standing just a meter or two away from these gentle giants is an experience that you'll never forget.

After the gorilla trek, you could choose to climb to the summit of Mount Nyiragongo, an active volcano, to see the world's largest lava lake.

The 9 Ultimate Guy Trips for 2021

Where to go, what to drive, and which places to stay.

preview for How This Man Carved A Killer Six-Pack And Became An Adventure Athlete

By plane! By train! By good ol’ automobile! Who cares where as long as it’s not home, right? These nine unsung guy trips will satisfy your sense of adventure and keep you safe in the kinda/sorta post-Covid world.

FOR THE CLIMBER ...

guy trips

TELLURIDE, COLORADO

The adventure: Conquer the Via Ferrata

You know the town for its skiing and film festival, but the hiking trails. You’ll find dozens of them, covering more than 60 miles in total, close to town. The must-do is the Via Ferrata, aka the Iron Path, a two- mile trek that includes (but is not limited to) carved steps, rope ladders, suspension bridges, and caves, with a peak summit of 500 vertical feet. On dangerous sections, you can clip your harness onto a steel cable so you’re protected if you fall.

Drive this ...

A Kia Telluride. The name tracks. But you can fit eight people in the SUV. Those are minivan numbers—and this beast drives like anything but a minivan.

Stay here ...

A 500-foot summit not enough? Book a night at the Peaks Resort & Spa, with access to an indoor/outdoor lap pool, three tennis courts, and two pickleball courts to keep you moving.

FOR THE CAMPER ...

man enjoying a day of paddleboarding on a river with his dog

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA

The adventure: Paddleboard the Three Rivers

Aka the Broad, Congaree, and Saluda rivers. They’re all accessible through the band of national parkland that rests within a half hour of downtown. Warm up with the Broad River Blueway, which is wide and slow. Then it’s up to you what’s next. The Saluda offers quiet, tree-lined waters; the Congaree flows through downtown Columbia, so you may hit (water) traffic.

Sleek enough for city streets but tough enough for off-roading, Subaru’s Outback Wilderness will carry you and your gear to any stand-up-paddleboard put-in spot. Its X-Mode function sets up the chassis and drivetrain for optimal traction in everything from dirt to deep snow.

Pitch a tent next to the scenic Lake Russell at one of Calhoun Falls State Park’s campsites. If roughing it isn’t your thing, rent a two-bedroom cabin (with air-conditioning!) at Santee State Park, which overlooks Lake Marion, the largest lake in the state.

FOR THE MARATHONER ...

guy trips

SAUSALITO, CALIFORNIA

The adventure: Trail-run (or hike) the Ninja Loop

Start at the Golden Gate Bridge parking lot, warm up on the slow-descent Coastal Trailhead, climb the Miwok Trail, coast down the Tennessee Valley Trail, power past the horse stables, and move on to Marincello, where you’ll grind upward until you reach views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Refuel from the ten-miler at Copita with tacos al pastor.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E EV is an all-electric SUV with a 230-mile range, which means you can book a hotel in San Francisco or San Jose and still be within range.

After hitting the trails, recover with an in-room deep-tissue massage at the Inn Above Tide, which has waterfront views of Angel Island. If you’re looking for a different kind of recovery, head a half hour north to Sonoma wine country.

FOR THE ADRENALINE JUNKIE ...

guy trips

LA GRANDE, OREGON

The adventure: Paraglide through the clouds

Cycle along a section of the 134-mile Grande Tour Scenic Bikeway, which runs through La Grande, and take in views of the nearby Wallowa and Blue mountains. When you’re done, Oregon Paramotor offers eight-day paramotor courses (think paragliding but with an engine) to explore the east-Oregon skies.

No lie, the Bronco Sport has a GOAT mode. That’s “goes over any terrain,” a claim backed by its standard 4x4 system and optional lifted suspension. Its roof rack lugs up to 150 pounds, too.

Grab a suite at the Landing Hotel for easy access to the entire valley, or stay farther away at the pet-friendly Barking Mad Farm Bed & Breakfast, where pigs, goats, and chickens roam the land. Just two miles away is the Terminal Gravity Brewing Company, famous for its IPA.

FOR THE ANGLER ....

a line caught fish being pulled onto a fishing boat with a spear by a crew member

WANCHESE, NORTH CAROLINA

The adventure ...

Fish the deep sea On the southern end of Roanoke Island sits this fishing village undiscovered by most tourists. Grab a six-pack, charter a boat at the Wanchese Marina, and go battle feisty (and delicious) Spanish mackerel and acrobatic mahi-mahi (also delicious). Bonus: All that reeling counts as a forearm workout.

The Ram 1500 with eTorque Hybrid technology averages 26 miles per gallon, and the quad cab is roomy enough to stash tackle boxes, hard coolers, and camping gear if you’re overnighting it.

Each beachfront, four-bedroom cottage at Nags Head’s Haven on the Banks has its own hot tub and gas grill to cook up your catch of the day. Afterward, head to the beach, start a fire, and take in the views of the area.

FOR THE TRULY WILD ...

luanne horting tandem base

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO

The adventure: BASE jump (no, honestly)

First off, you’ll have an experienced jumper with you. Tandem BASE provides the equipment and instruction to leap from the 486-foot-tall Perrine Bridge. You’ll work up the intestinal fortitude to sign a waiver and then plummet toward—and eventually rest easy in—Snake River Canyon.

The all-wheel-drive, 158- horsepower, sporty-as-all-get-out VW Taos is your go-to dependable vehicle when you’re about to head out and do something wild.

After a nine-minute drive from the Snake River Canyon trail, you’ll feel like you’re at home at the Fillmore Inn . . . because it’s literally in someone’s home. The tiny bed-and-breakfast lies at the heart of Twin Falls, just a few minutes’ walk from Koto Brewing Co. and its more than 20 beers on tap.

FOR THE INTERNATIONAL TRAVELER ...

The Great American Guys' Trip: Best Destinations

Whether you're married with three kids or still enjoying the bachelor life, every guy needs to get away from it all once in awhile. When we fall into our daily routines of work and home life for too long, we can begin to forget how to have fun. What better way to hit the road for some fun times than with an epic guys' trip with all your buddies?

Top 4 Ultimate Guys' Trips in the U.S.A.

  • For Entertainment Enthusiasts: Las Vegas, NV - You may think  Vegas is a bit of a cliche choice but, come on, it's the Entertainment Capital of the World! If you want to spend a long weekend enjoying gambling, shows and lots of drinking with your friends, Sin City simply can't be topped - just be careful how far you dip into your bank account or you might not be welcome when you get back home. It's also good to keep in mind that Vegas is scorchingly hot, with temperatures regularly exceeding 100 degrees in the summer. To keep yourselves cool as you hop from casino to casino, you and your buddies would be wise to wear some  light, breathable tees and boxers. If you want to add some outdoor adventure to your guys' trip to Las Vegas, the spectacularly beautiful  Zion National Park is just a 2 and a half hour drive across the Mojave Desert.
  • For Outdoorsy Types: Yosemite National Park, CA - If you and your friends' idea of rest and relaxation is taking an adventure in the great outdoors, then Yosemite National Park is a perfect destination for your ultimate guys' trip. Whether you want to camp, go for day hikes or get really adventurous with a backpacking trip, Yosemite offers miles upon miles of serene forests and steep mountains to explore and enjoy. While there's plenty to do in Yosemite, hiking up the famous Half Dome with your buddies is a must. Aside from hiking, you can also go rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, kayaking or fishing in Yosemite; the opportunities for adventure are practically endless! Naturally, you're gonna get pretty damn dirty and sweaty on this trip, so be sure to pack plenty of  nice, cool socks and boxers.
  • For Sports & History Lovers: Boston, MA - As one of the oldest and coolest cities in the country, Boston is a paradise for both sports fans and history buffs, and it's a safe bet that your friend group has a bit of both. For baseball lovers, nothing will beat taking a tour and then watching a game at historic Fenway Park, the oldest ballpark in the MLB. Meanwhile, basketball and hockey fans can catch a game at TD Garden, while football and soccer fans can make a short drive down to Gillette Stadium. The history nerds among your buddies will have the time of their lives visiting key locations from the American Revolution, including the site of the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party Ships and Bunker Hill. If you're up for a short drive, you can also see where the "shot heard 'round the world" was fired in Minute Man National Historic Park.
  • For Those Who Love the Open Road: Route 66 - If you and your buddies are "road trip guys," then the best guys' trip you could ask for is driving historic Route 66 . While the famed highway running from Chicago to Santa Monica was officially removed from the U.S. Highway System in 1985, most of the original 2,500 mile road remains intact and allows you to cruise through some of the most scenic parts of the country. While this road trip is best driven on classic muscle cars or motorcycles, those stuck driving family friendly SUVs are sure to enjoy themselves as well. To maximize your comfort on this multi-day drive, make sure to wear  breathable boxer briefs that will keep your nuts from being sweat-glued to your thighs. There are plenty of fun attractions still standing along Route 66, so be sure to look them up before you and your pals depart.

As is the case with most beach cities, the nightlife does not disappoint. You'll have plenty of options for dancing, drinking and enjoying live entertainment.

It runs through Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge Mountains, which is where you will witness some of the most stunning views ever. Waterfalls crystallize in the winter. There are many picnic areas along the route. Many prefer the Elkwallow and South River because of the opportunities to "meet" with raptors and many animals.

The answer should be "no one," because doing so is illegal and you may get in a lot of trouble. Join a canopy tour and you'll actually get to climb some of them. A panoramic view of the Redwood National Park is totally worth it. Take a zip line tour for even more fun.

North Maine Woods, Maine

Why not go on a canoe trip on the Allagash River? You will get to live like people in the mid 1800's did. The ride starts at Chamberlain Lake and goes through pine forests and rapids. If you're not careful, this can turn into the ultimate survival experience. You'll definitely need your buddies with you then.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Mardi Gras, anyone? You won't find a place in the U.S. that celebrates it better. Enjoy some of the best food in the South, if not in the whole country, and great music clubs and bars. The atmosphere is unconventional but fun. For those of who need a few days of more quiet time, you'll like the fishing and golf opportunities.

Grand Canyon, Arizona

How does paddling through miles of powerful white waters sound? Extremely challenging and exciting. The whole trip can be more than two weeks long as you navigate the Colorado River through a deep canyon. You'll probably qualify to teach geology classes afterwards. Raft trips are also available for those who prefer a more conventional adventure. Many men go on long mountain-bike trips along the northern rim.

Las Vegas or Dubai - Which Is Better For A Bachelor Party

Are you in the process of planning a bachelor party for a buddy and torn between Dubai and Las Vegas? Well, gents, both cities have their unique attractions that can make your mate's send-off into marital bliss a memorable one. I love both cities and the reality is that you will be able to have a fabulous time in either destination but you need to plan accordingly because while they are both world-class party destinations... each city has its own very unique personality.

You've finally found a weekend when you and all of your buddies can get away to the lake for some R & R, away from the endless honey-do lists and invitations to brunch. The cooler’s stocked, there’s gas in the truck, and the boat’s ready to go. It should be an amazing week, with nothing to do but land that large mouth that you just know is lurking somewhere out in the lake. Except that the trip is a disaster and you come home more stressed than when you left — and bummed that it didn’t even come close to meeting your expectations.

Embrace Your Inner Cowboy With These Dallas Bachelor Party Ideas

Are you guys plotting a memorable yet respectful bachelor party in Dallas? I've got some great ideas to help you send your buddy off in style by building the ultimate "Texas Sized" bachelor party where you and the boys can live out your fantasies of being a cowboy. From the moment you walk through the doors of Hotel Zeppelin you are either going to love this place or hate the incredible hipster vibe. I've stayed in several Hard Rock Hotels and while I've never had a bad experience - these guys have done it better with a more authentic vibe.

Ever thought about combining work and vacation on a luxury cruiser? Sounds crazy, right? Well, not anymore! Picture this: you and your buddies set sail on Virgin Voyages' Ultimate Workcation Adventure. It's not your typical work trip, it's a unique mix of relaxation and productivity that's challenging the regular concept of a working holiday. Of course, for you married guys... it's probably a good idea to consider bringing your wives along... after all, as much as Virgin Voyages is our favorite cruise line for a guys trip... it's a whole lot of fun as a romantic getaway too!

Add to this fun mix some exciting gambling opportunities, world-class building sights, and affordable hotel stays - you're a winner with these things!

Vegas Myths That You Need To Know Before Planning That Bachelor Party Guys Getaway

Las Vegas, with its glimmering neon lights, may seem like a playground of limitless revelry. However, the reality is quite different, particularly when it comes to the assumptions men often hold about bachelor party trips. As you gear up for this iconic pre-wedding tradition, it's vital to differentiate between truth and myth to avoid unexpected shocks. From the legal standpoint on public intoxication to the actual guidelines of Vegas strip clubs, we will debunk these mistaken beliefs one at a time. More than a Dozen Places In the United States Where You Can Ride a Steam Train

Steam trains have a special place in my heart - as they do with millions of other guys and even some women too! These are giant hulking marvels of engineering represented the pinnacle of technology in their day but are still amazing to experience. For A Cruise Ship Bachelor Party Should You Share A Suite Or Get Individual Rooms

A cruise is a fantastic setting for a bachelor party - exotic locations, budget-friendly, fantastic food, and depending on your ship, there's probably even an "all-inclusive" alcoholic beverage package to keep you busy cracking cold ones during the day and sipping scotch with your buddies at night. However, one question that I get frequently from guys who are looking to book a cruise with us is whether it makes sense to get individual rooms or try to get a big fancy suite and pack the guys in there. The answer is unique for every group I talk with, but it seems to be a topic that comes up regularly, so let's take a deeper look...

Aqua Expeditions: The Excitement Of Expedition Cruising Blended With Small Ship Luxury

In recent years the cruise industry has transformed itself from a fairly niche part of the leisure industry driven more by people looking to experience something specific - such as visiting a remote island that almost nobody else ever has, or exploring rivers farther than even many of the great exploreers dared to go back in the golden years of the British Empire. These men and women were true explorers willing to sacrifice creature comforts and service for the opportunity to do something nobody else had done. Today, though, the industry has expanded, and companies like Aqua Expeditions blend the excitement of expedition cruising with the comforts of ultra-premium luxury and service.

Then I discovered that I was going to be driving right by the world famous Uranus Fudge Factory... I knew I had to stop. If for nothing else, I figured it was worth a laugh to tell Heather and Jim that I stopped to get some fresh fudge from Uranus. What I didn't expect to find was that this a surprisingly comprehensive destination filled with all sorts of double entendre, dirty jokes, and "family" fun.

7 Guys’ Weekend Outdoor Trip Ideas That Won’t Disappoint

Men don’t get as much coverage in books and movies, but they need strong friendships just as much as women do. Studies show that maintaining close friendships is incredibly important for men’s mental and emotional health , so it’s critical to find ways to get together and have fun. One of the best ways for men to maintain friendships is to participate in trips and activities together—and when you’re ready to spend some time with the boys, there’s nothing like going outside.

These seven weekend trip ideas offer all the opportunities you could want to connect with old friends and make new ones all while taking in some Southern scenery. From whitewater adventures to revving up an ATV , these activities will leave you reinvigorated, connected and ready to take on anything.

Whitewater Rafting/Kayaking

fun guys trip locations

Nothing brings friends together like the hair-raising challenge of steering a raft or kayak through some gnarly rapids. When you’re whitewater rafting, nothing else matters except the ability to work together and get through the rapids. It’s a guaranteed unforgettable experience, but make sure to do some research on any whitewater guide company and evaluate their safety standards .

Whitewater kayaking is also a good choice for more advanced paddlers who want a balance of teamwork and individual control. You and your friends should already be competent flat-water paddlers before attempting whitewater kayaking—but if you’re ready for it, it’s an adventure unlike any other.

Where to go: Chattahoochee Whitewater Park – Georgia Gauley River – West Virginia Cumberland River – Kentucky

Fishing is a classic way for men to unwind and engage in a little battle of the wits with nature at the same time. Grab some fishing poles, bait and a couple of friends and then spend a few hours catching dinner (if the fish in your area are safe to eat). Fishing makes a great activity for a camping trip or it can be the basis of a trip all on its own.

Fishing can also be done at many different intensity levels—from a fishing day trip to a nearby river all the way up to big-game deep sea fishing expeditions for serious anglers. Many popular fishing spots will rent equipment for the day, making casual fishing a relatively inexpensive way to hang out with friends. But fishing is also more rewarding the deeper you go into the hobby as evidenced by the passionate communities that surround fishing disciplines like fly-tying.

Where to go: Florida Keys – Florida Lake Fork – Texas Little River – Tennessee

Hiking/Camping

fun guys trip locations

Hiking and camping are outdoor classics for a reason. These activities offer a way to enjoy nature closer to the way our distant ancestors did—on foot, with only the supplies you can carry on your back. For the truly adventurous, primitive camping offers a genuinely primeval experience, without bathroom facilities or other modern conveniences.

Just remember: pack it in, pack it out. Anything you bring into your campsite, from flashlights to food wrappers, should be packed back out again. Encourage your buddies to hold each other accountable and follow the principles of “Leave No Trace” when you’re on a camping trip.

Where to go: Pisgah National Forest – North Carolina Ozark National Forest – Arkansas Big Bend National Park – Texas

Interested in something a little calmer but that still offers a good way to get outside with the boys? Golf might be just what you’re looking for. A golf outing can occupy a few hours, a day or a full weekend, and it’s a great opportunity to socialize with friends. It’s also more exercise than you might expect, especially if you play a highly walkable course where you don’t need a golf cart to move around efficiently.

Golf can be a little pricey to get into between clubs, course memberships and various golf gear. But an entry-level set of clubs is within most people’s reach, and you and your friends can start off small by playing public courses. What’s more, many people play golf well into their seventies and eighties, making it an excellent lifelong investment in fitness and fun.

Where to go: The Ocean Course – Kiawah Island, South Carolina Peachtree Golf Club – Atlanta, Georgia Augusta National – Augusta, Georgia

ATV Trail Riding

fun guys trip locations

Take hiking and add a whole lot of horsepower, and you’ve got ATV trail riding. This awesome outdoor sport allows a group of riders to tackle a trail from the back of a rugged all-terrain vehicle, making the perfect opportunity for you and your friends to experience the beauty of nature combined with the roar of an engine.

Make sure to obey all relevant restrictions and to use an experienced guide when riding in unfamiliar areas. It’s also a good idea to take along an ATV helmet communication system that will allow your group to communicate and stay safe while on the trail.

Where to go: The Ridge Outdoor Adventure Park – Springville, Alabama Hatfield-McCoy Trails – Appalachian Mountains, West Virginia Brimstone Recreation – Huntsville, Tennessee

Rock Climbing

fun guys trip locations

Rock climbing offers some of the best exercise among the outdoor sports, which makes it ideal for men who want their outdoor adventures to help keep them in shape. Bouldering is good for a casual day trip, while big-wall climbing offers the expert-level thrills that serious rock climbers crave. What’s more, rock climbing requires serious teamwork and a high level of trust making it a powerful way to develop deep personal bonds.

Where to go: Chimney Rock State Park – North Carolina Red River Gorge – Kentucky New River Gorge – West Virginia

Endurance Events

Sometimes, getting your butt kicked a little bit is part of the adventure. If that sounds like a good time to you and your friends, try doing an endurance event or outdoor fitness boot camp together. Dozens of different endurance events take place every year around the U.S., focused on many different types of fitness and with tons of crazy events. Obstacle course events like the Spartan Race series are especially popular, and many of these have collaborative aspects that are awesome for forging strong bonds between friends.

Where to go: Anywhere these events take place

Maybe it’s a little cliché to suggest that bonding among male friends happens best outdoors. But after a weekend spent doing any of these activities, you’ll be reminded why nature offers such an effective way to spend time with the people who make your life awesome.

Your Guide for a Guys’ Weekend in Gatlinburg

Meet the guys in the great smoky mountains for a memorable, thrilling guys’ weekend.

four men laughing on a mountain peak

Guys’ weekend is just a short drive away when you plan a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Whether it’s a Father’s Day trip with all the brothers and dad, a bachelor party or just a much-needed getaway, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have all the fun, thrills and peace and quiet you’re looking for.

Let’s start with the stereotypical fun, the men might be looking for: fishing, golf and barbecue. Then we’ll look at thrilling adventures, peaceful cabins and spa days!

Here Fishie Fishie

Fishing is huge in the Smokies – trout fishing especially! The Smoky Mountains have more species of trout that any other area in the country with Brook, Brown, Rainbow, Golden, Speckled, Wild, Trophy, Hatchery Supported and Steelhead.

Bring your gear, get a license and fish year round in Great Smoky Mountains National Park or find a fishing guide to take you wading or boating to catch dinner.

“Great Smoky Mountains National Park has about 2,900 miles of streams within its boundaries, and protects one of the last wild trout habitats in the eastern United States. Approximately 20% of the park’s streams are large enough to support trout populations.”

fun guys trip locations

Fly Fishing the Smokies was named 2020 Outfitter of the Year. With locations in Gatlinburg and Bryson City, NC, Fly Fishing in the Smokies offers guided trout fly fishing, wade trips, float trips for trout and smallmouth bass on a drift boat, raft or Cataraft. The company also offers trips for other fish – walleye and carp. Call (828)-488-7665 for more information.

The Smoky Mountain Angler is another site to check out for any level of fly fisher. Located in Gatlinburg, The Smoky Mountain Angler was established in 1988. In addition to guided fishing trips, the company also offers free fly-tying classes and fly-fishing instruction for a fee. Want to go it alone? You can rent a boat and all the gear if you don’t want to bring yours with you. Call (865)436-8746.

Nationally known and privately owned Orvis has a store in Sevierville and offers a fly-fishing school for a fee. Contact the store at 866-531-6213 .

Read about license requirements, size limits, daily possession limits, lures, bait and equipment on the National Park Service Web site .

Hit the Links

Golf – yes, you can still golf in the mountains. There are several excellent courses.

Gatlinburg Golf Course is an 18-hole course designed by noted golf course architect William Langford . In 1993 and again in 2007, the course underwent major renovations by Bob Cupp & Associates of Atlanta. Today, the completely rebuilt greens and reworked fairways offer seasoned duffers as well as beginners a challenge on every hole.

As the Web site says: “Teeing off is a little different in the mountains. The natural landscape in Gatlinburg makes for quite a few uniquely designed holes. Grab your clubs and test your skills on the beautiful Gatlinburg Golf Course, situated in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The course features some of the most picturesque rolling hills in the area.

Located just five miles from downtown Gatlinburg, the course lies adjacent to Dollywood at 811 East Parkway . Call for more information, tee times and fees (865) 436-4178 .

Golf Course at Cobbly Nob

Also in Gatlinburg is Bent Creek Golf Course – a par 72 course designed by three-time Masters and British Open Championship Winner Gary Player . Opened in 1972, Bent Creek was named one of the “top 50 golf courses in the south” by Southern Living Magazine. The front nine runs along the valley floor, while the back nine is a challenging mountain course.

Check out each hole via the course Web site and check out tee times and fees. Bent Creek is located at 3919 E. Parkway in Gatlinburg. Call (865) 436-3947 for more.

Up the road in the unique Tennessee town of Townsend is Laurel Valley Golf Course , a par-70 course designed by Edmund Alt . Located in this picturesque and quiet mountain town – Townsend has about 500 residents.

Located at 702 Country Club Drive in Townsend. Check out the holes, book a tee time and find out more online or by calling (865) 738-3134.

While in Townsend, take a drive to Cades Cove , one of the most popular destinations in the Smokies because of its nature trails, wildlife, horseback riding, biking trails and picnic spots.

Cades Cove Loop

Eat and Drink

Speaking of food and drink, Smoky Mountain eating is not to be overlooked. From barbecue and fresh trout to pancakes and everything fried, the mountains have a lot of variety. You can go in, get take out or delivery groceries or have a chef cook for you in your mountain cabin rental . Check out some of our blog posts on best eats in the area: Best Burgers , Best Pizza , Best Takeout , Best Barbecue .

Action and Adventure

Are thrilling adventures your thing? ATV s, helicopters , white-water rafting , ziplining , skydiving , whiskey tasting , moonshine tours, hiking ? The Smoky Mountains has all this and more!

Do you want to fly right above the treetops – so close that it looks like you could reach out and touch them? You’ll be able to get a unique view of the Smoky Mountains in the fall. Plus, ziplining gives you the perfect amount of adrenaline – just enough to get your heart racing, but not so much that you’re terrified the entire time.

Check out our blog post on Ziplining in the smokies

White water rafting

Summer is a great time to check out the exciting class III and class IV rapids in the area. Whether you’ve never been before or you’re an experienced rafter, Gatlinburg has several rivers nearby and the right rafting adventure for you. Check out our blog post for all the details.

Tubing and rafting

Whether you want to stay inside and experience freefalling or try a tandem adventure high above the earth, both can be found in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Located at 3108 Parkway, Pigeon Forge. Reservations required by calling 1-877-293-0639

You want to jump out of a plane (it’s so much fun – I have done it twice), check out Skydive East Tennessee . Located about an hour north of Gatlinburg, Skydive East Tennessee offers tandem skydiving where you’ll jumping from 11,000 feet, enjoy a 20-minute scenic flight, up to 60 seconds of freefall, and five to six minutes under the parachute taking in the magnificent views of the Great Smoky Mountains and Douglas Lake. Known as 'California’s Last Frontier', Butte County combines year-round, outdoor recreation with a booming craft beer scene. As you explore rivers, waterfalls, mountains and jutting cliffs, it becomes the obvious choice for any stag weekend, birthday party or manly escape.  Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.  in Chico, referred to as the birthplace of California Beer, offers regular facility tours and tastings.

Gold Country  Not far from Butte County,  Placer County  also boasts thrilling outdoor recreation perfect for a guys’ trip. Start your adventure with world-class snow sports at Lake Tahoe or rafting on the  American River.  After a day of heart-pumping excitement, head down the hill to  historic Auburn  and experience a distilled spirit tasting at  California Distilled Spirits  or visit a boutique winery on the  Placer County Wine & Ale Trail .

High Sierra  Start your manly adventure through the high sierras any time of the year at  North Lake Tahoe , where you can find world-class ski resorts and historic golf courses where celebrities have been spotted walking the fairways. Don’t forget to explore the North Lake Tahoe  Ale Trail  by way of mountain bike, kayak or hiking. Just south of  Yosemite National Park  is  Mammoth Lakes , a 'man mecca' with miles of forest to hike and explore. The crew could hit the slopes of  Mammoth Mountain  and end the day with a beer at  Black Doubt  or  Mammoth Brewing Company .

San Francisco Bay Area For the guys planning a stay in the  San Francisco Bay Area , start off by exploring wine country.  Napa Valley  boasts eight public golf courses ranging from casual nine holes to a PGA-hosting 18 at  Silverado Resort , miles of hiking and cycling trails, several craft breweries and taprooms, two cigar lounges and several late-night music spots. In  Sonoma , there’s kayaking on the Russian River, hiking through  Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve  and golfing at  The Links at Bodega Harbor . Then head down to San Francisco for the 10th annual  SF Beer Week . From 9-18 Feb, hundreds of events are taking place from elite festivals and casual how-to-brew demos to brewery tours and extravagant dinners with beer pairings.

Central Valley   Just outside of the San Francisco Bay Area is  Stockton , an underrated destination perfect for a manly escape. Start by getting a cut and shave at the hip barber's shop known as Cal-Pine on the Avenue. For those traveling in the spring and summer months, catch a minor league  Stockton Ports  baseball game at the scenic Banner Island Ballpark. During the autumn and winter months, a high-intensity Stockton Heat hockey game at the  Stockton Arena  should be on the agenda. For those who enjoy motorsports, the fastest quarter-mile NASCAR track can be found here at the  Stockton 99 Speedway . Make sure you end your day with a brew from the local favorite  Channel Brewing Co.

Central Coast  A guys' weekend getaway on California’s beautiful central coast would not be complete without a round of golf at a world-renowned golf course. Start your trip at  Pebble Beach Resorts , home to four renowned golf courses, world-class accommodation and dining. After a round with the pros, head down to the  Oceano Dunes  on Pismo State Beach and rent ATVs or Dune Buggies to get your heart pumping, and then cool off with a surfing session. If that’s not enough action for you, head down to  Camarillo  and skydive from 5,000 feet above the California coastline with  Skydive Coastal California , or fly above the Camarillo farmlands with an  ultralight aviation flight . End your trip with a brew in  San Luis Obispo  at  SLO Brew Lofts .

Los Angeles County For those looking to have a manly escape in Los Angeles County, make sure you stop at the beer mecca,  Torrance . The city has 11 breweries, including national beer award winners, and some of the best beer in Southern California. One of these breweries is  Zymurgy Brew Works , where the guests can make their own beer. While in town, make sure you catch some sun at the uncrowded, 1.5-mile stretch of  Torrance Beach .

Inland Empire  When you think about taking a guys’ trip to Southern California, you might think about catching some sun and hitting the waves on the beach. Well, you might be surprised to know that it is also a great place for winter recreation. A day shredding the slopes, paired with refuelling at the Bullwheel Bar & Grill or the Foggy Goggle, make  Mountain High Resort  an ideal guys’ getaway destination.

San Diego County Guys who are considering a sports-filled getaway are encouraged to plan their stay in  San Diego . In addition to catching the Padres play a Major League Baseball game at  Petco Park , San Diego offers the Sport of Kings twice a year at the  Del Mar Thoroughbred Club , an amazing range of golf course terrains and views, plus sport fishing on the Pacific. After an exhilarating day of sports, you'll want to head out for a night on the town. San Diego offers many choices including local bars, intimate live music venues, stadiums and amphitheaters, and Vegas-style nightclubs with multilevel dance floors and rooftop bars.

10 Guys Getaways in Phoenix

One for the Boys

10 guys getaways in phoenix.

This one's for the boys. We've rounded up our top 10 ideas for an action-packed guys getaway of fun and adventure in metro Phoenix.

Cobra Arcade Bar A rotation of 80s and 90s vintage arcade games and pinball machines have created quite the buzz around Phoenix's Cobra Arcade Bar . A variety of food trucks and DJ appearances add to the fun, as do the clever cocktails inspired by classic video games. The Grid: Games and Growlers The Grid's 600-plus video games range from vintage to contemporary, including Atari, pinball, arcade games and board games. When you need a break in the gaming action, this LGBTQ-friendly Mesa spot also offers a full selection of brews and pub grub. Regular events include karaoke nights, comedy shows and themed game nights like Rockband Mondays.

10 Guys Getaways in Phoenix

Area Casinos When Lady Luck beckons, the greater Phoenix area's eight casinos will tempt you with an assortment of slot machines, video poker, table games and sports betting. Many of the casinos are connected to some of Phoenix's finest resorts and restaurants, too. So, win or lose, you still score.

Start Your Engines

Racing Adventures At Racing Adventures in Phoenix , adrenaline junkies can take laps in an automatic Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, or Porsche with paddle shifters; try their hand—and footwork—in a manual Cobra or GT40; or book a combo package to drive several different supercars. Radford Racing School Formerly known as the Bondurant Performance Driving School, Radford Racing School in Chandler carries on the long tradition of world-class instruction in intensive 1-4 day driving courses in an array of vehicles and styles. Choose from among Formula 4, drag racing, karting or performance driving, to list a few.

10 Guys Getaways in Phoenix

You won't find better hiking bang for the buck than Hidden Valley via Mormon Trail at South Mountain. Four miles round-trip includes plenty of interesting rock formations, wildlife and a squeeze through the famed Fat Man's Pass. It's a popular route, so expect other hikers. Also of note: There's no real shade on the trail, so consider heading out early or waiting until later in the day to avoid the sun.

The Hawes Trail System in Mesa spans interconnecting trails with views of Red Mountain, Four Peaks, and Fountain Hills. Many of the trails were built for mountain bikers, or with them in mind. If you choose to hike, keep an eye out for the fast-moving bikers who share the trail.

Hit the links

Pete Dye, Tom Weiskopf, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Arthur Hills and Jack Nicklaus are just a few of the designers who designed some of Arizona's 300 golf courses. Add to that, 320 days of sunshine, beautiful landscapes, quick greens, "interesting" roughs and some very nice 19th holes, so why wouldn't you book a foursome of golf for 9, 18, or 36 holes?

Cast a Line

Scottsdale’s Chaparral Park is among the most convenient of the region's urban lakes, located just northeast of Old Town Scottsdale. It's stocked year-round with species such as trout, catfish and sunfish. Before you bait the hook, make sure everyone has a fishing license, available at Arizona Game & Fish and at local sporting goods stores. Not staying in Scottsdale? Game & Fish lists 30 urban lakes and community fishing waters in the greater Phoenix area and central Arizona!

10 Guys Getaways in Phoenix

Ride the Waves

Lake Pleasant Regional Park , just north of Phoenix, offers two options for powerboating adventures. Pleasant Harbor Marina sits on the southeast side of the lake, with Jet Skis and pontoon boats available from Boats4Rent ; on the other side of the lake, Scorpion Bay Marina rents Jet Skis and pontoons, plus sport boats, wakeboards and water skis.

Cheer On Your Favorite Team

10 Guys Getaways in Phoenix

With the NFL's Arizona Cardinals , NBA's Phoenix Suns , NHL's Arizona Coyotes , and MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks , Phoenix is one of only 13 cities with teams in all four major sports—with a bonus of Major League Soccer's Phoenix Rising and the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury . That means year-round sports action. If you're here from late February through March, MLB's Cactus League Spring Training is a must.

If college sports are more your league (and you're feeling brave) declare your support for either the Arizona State University Sun Devils or the University of Arizona Wildcats —one of college sports' most heated rivalries.

Take Flight

10 Guys Getaways in Phoenix

360 Adventures Helicopter The views of Phoenix and Scottsdale from a helicopter are a one-of-a-kind thrill—whether you choose to loop around Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak or overlook the area at sundown. 360 Adventures offers several helicopter tours, including a night tour that shows off Phoenix's city lights and out-of-town tours to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. iFly Skydiving Who says you can’t defy gravity? Indoor skydiving center, iFly , connects you and your buddies as you learn the basics of bodyflying without having to jump out of a plane. Feel the exhilaration at this Scottsdale center.

Your crew always embraces the party—anytime, anywhere. Now the boys are going to Vegas for the first time and you’re ready to make it a weekend for the books. The only FOMO you’ll have is when you go home and think of all the things you have to do on that next Vegas trip. Here’s how to make those Snapchat stories lit and those visions of an iconic weekend in Vegas a reality.

First thing's first, check out The Strip.

These are the must-dos for a first timers trip to Vegas: Get that essential Welcome To Las Vegas sign picture, watch the  Bellagio Fountains , take a spin on the  High Roller , and walk down Las Vegas Boulevard to see what adventures you get into.

Daytime Hangs

What should you do during the day?

Take a few swings at  TopGolf  where you can get your own climate-controlled hitting bay with food and drink service.

Want a piece of the great outdoors? Go off-Strip to take a hike at Red Rock, or take a day trip to the  Grand Canyon  (you can even go  by helicopter ).

Adrenaline Junkies, we're talking to you.

Thrill seekers will love ziplining through  Fremont Street Experience  on the  Slotzilla , or the  thrill rides on top of The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Skypod  that loom 900 feet above the Strip. Get your heart racing inside with a little  indoor skydiving  or on some of the fastest indoor go karts in the country at  Pole Position Raceway .

What’s for dinner?

STK , the trendy steakhouse at  The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas , sounds perfect. Another great choice is  Libertine Social  ( Mandalay Bay ) by James Beard Award-winning chef Shawn McClain, where you'll find New American cuisine with a modern gastropub feel. If you're in the mood for Asian cuisine, try the highly-acclaimed  Momofuku  ( The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas ) for their signature steamed buns and ginger scallion noodles.

If you want a classic burger and a beer, go for  Guy Fieri's Vegas Kitchen & Bar  ( The LINQ Hotel + Experience  ) or  Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill  ( Caesars Palace .)

We'll drink to that.

If you and the guys are feeling like sipping on a beer while watching the big game, take a seat at The Front Yard ( Ellis Island ) or  Beer Park  ( Paris Las Vegas ).

To live like a local, check out the lively downtown scene. Head to the  Fremont East District  for some fun bar-hopping at Commonwealth or Park on Fremont.

This itinerary is stacked to make your first Vegas trip one you'll remember forever. There's nothing quite like your first weekend in Vegas, that is until you come back again. You know what they say: what happens here, stays here.
