Dedicated Group Concierge

Group bookings come with a dedicated Concierge who can help arrange all your group events including shore excursions, exclusive use of a specialty restaurant or other venue, conference space, cocktail parties, and more.

Flexible Payments

When you book a group of eight staterooms or more, we can hold cruise fare pricing for 30 days as you finalize arrangements. You’ll enjoy group cruise deals, low deposits, and a more flexible payment schedule.

Group Rewards

Booking a group leads to rewards for the group leader. These can include onboard credits you can exchange for champagne, wine, fruit baskets, canapes for your meetings, cocktail parties, and more.

Group Dining

We can make sure all members of your group sit together in our Main Restaurant or any of the specialty dining restaurants. You can even buy out a specific venue just for your group.

Group Shore Excursions

We can create group shore excursions including everything from standard tours to over-the-top experiences like Private Journeys. We can even create a custom shore excursion package for your group.

Why Book With Celebrity Cruises?

Luxury hotel stays can be arranged for any guests who may require overnight stays before or after the cruise.

On a Caribbean cruise, life's a beach—actually hundreds—some long and straight, some tucked between cliffs, some brilliant white, some volcanic black. But our Caribbean cruises are more than beaches.

Alaska Cruisetours

With our Cruisetours, you can combine your cruise with an exciting land tour where you’ll stay in authentic lodges and travel remote roads and railways in deluxe transportation.

Galapagos All-Inclusive Journeys

Within this small archipelago, each of the Galapagos islands is uniquely diverse. Some have shorelines draped in mangroves, others are rugged volcanic outcrops jutting defiantly from the sea. Best of all, these explorations are all-inclusive and group booking here only require five staterooms.

Types of Groups

What makes a group? Eight staterooms or more. Other than that, there are no further requirements. You can book large group cruises and event cruises for: Wedding Cruises, Vow Renewals, Bridal Showers, Family Reunions, Friend Reunions, Class Reunions, Corporate Events and Charters, Birthdays, Graduations, Sweet Sixteen or Quinceañera Parties, Retirement Celebrations, and Religious Retreats.

What our clients say.

AJ

“Helped us book our cruise. Great video content on what to expect on our ship. Leads on wonderful private excursion options . Laura was so helpful! ”

(Check out this 5-star review on Google: https://g.co/kgs/mW5cXQm )

Courtney D

“Laura and Scott are awesome! Highly recommend! We had a trip delayed several years by Covid. They took care of everything with cancelling, holding travel credits, and re-researching/rebooking when the time came. Two or three times during our trip (which was very complicated travel-wise), we were just thinking of a question (i.e. Did we ever get the code to get into tonight’s rental?) and before we could even ask, Laura was texting US! Laura was also VERY communicative and prompt during the planning phase. And while on our trip, it was so nice to have all the details taken care of so we could simply enjoy! Our trip was not a cruise (planned before they got into that business more exclusively), but I have no doubt they bring the same level of detail to cruises-perhaps even more since they have taken many of those trips themselves!”

(Check out this 5-star review on Google: https://g.co/kgs/dD1pScf )

Kimberly T

“ We were referred to Laura and Scott by some cruise friends who have used them for years . A pleasure to work with, and they offer just great service ! Quick to reply , better rates than you can get directly from the cruise sites plus they offer trips other than cruises. I have referred them to MY friends and have had nothing but positive responses from them as well.”

Understanding Group Cruises

Traveling with a group on a cruise is not just a journey; it’s an experience that binds relationships, creates memories, and offers unique perks. Let’s explore what group cruise bookings are and why they might be the best option for your next big event.

What Is a Group Cruise Booking?

A group cruise booking is for friends, family, colleagues, influencers and their fans, or any collective that wants to travel together on predefined cruise itineraries. This method of booking provides bulk discounts and added benefits but doesn’t offer the flexibility or capacity of chartering an entire vessel.

In group bookings:

  • Participants travel as regular passengers.
  • They enjoy individual freedoms but can also opt for coordinated activities.
  • The group benefits from exclusive rates and perks.

Qualifications for Group Cruise Rates:

Generally speaking, you’ll probably need to meet these requirements:

  • Guests : A minimum of 16 passengers.
  • Staterooms : A requirement of eight or more cabin bookings.
  • Occupancy Ratio : An average of two guests for every cabin.

Depending on the cruise line, there might be variations in how they define group cruises. For example, Norwegian Cruise Line offers group benefits when booking five rooms and gives you the sixth room free.

Why Opt for a Group Cruise Booking?

Here are some compelling benefits of group cruises:

  • Economical : Enjoy stable, reduced rates that don’t vary like individual bookings.
  • Extra Perks : Think onboard credits, exclusive parties, and complimentary beverages.
  • Personalized Experience : Design activities, meals, and excursions tailored to your group.
  • Exclusive Facilities : Access meeting areas equipped with modern amenities like A/V equipment.
  • Complimentary Spaces : Often, the group leader may get a free trip based on the number of cabins reserved (see next section).

With reduced rates, added perks, and customization options, group cruises can be an affordable and memorable way to vacation.

Pro Tip: Prices are based on double occupancy per cabin, so if you want the lowest prices per person, make sure that all the rooms are full.

Group Leader Benefits

Many cruise lines reward group leaders with free cabins, known as tour conductor credits, for organizing cruise bookings. The number of free cabins depends on the following:

  • Total cabins booked
  • Cabin type booked
  • Guests paying full fare

For example, booking 16 cabins with full-fare guests may earn one free cabin. Booking 32 could mean two free. With 100 cabins, you may earn six free!

A group leader does not pay the base fare for free cabins, just taxes, and fees. Free cabin type is determined by what the group books.

If you plan to organize a group cruise booking and want a complimentary fare, contact The Vacationeer or cruise lines to find out which promotion tiers are available.

Comparing Group Cruises to Partial and Full Ship Charters

When planning a cruise getaway for a group, understanding the differences between group cruises and chartering parts or the entire ship is key. Let’s explore the pros and cons of each option:

Group Cruise

Description:

  • Joins a regular cruise alongside other passengers.
  • Typically involves reserving a block of 8 to 20 cabins, accommodating around 16 to 40 people.
  • Adheres to the ship’s set itinerary and entertainment.
  • Group block fares at a discount make it more affordable.
  • Some exclusive amenities tailored for the group.
  • Offers greater flexibility for changes.
  • Limited personalization due to a fixed itinerary and entertainment.
  • Shared voyage with other passengers, thus less exclusivity.

Partial Charter Ship

  • Reserves approximately 30-50% of the ship’s capacity.
  • Provides the luxury of customizing certain elements.
  • Exclusive spaces dedicated to the group.
  • Involves fixed fees and minimum spending.
  • Reduced flexibility for modifications.

Full Charter Ship

  • Privileges of commandeering the entire ship.
  • Opportunities for a fully tailored journey.
  • Offers unparalleled exclusivity.
  • Complete autonomy in planning the voyage.
  • Significantly more expensive, with starting costs at $1 million+.
  • While offering prestige, there’s reduced flexibility in terms of adjustments.

Your choice among these options will hinge on factors like budget, group size, and the level of desired customization. Consult a travel expert like The Vacationee r for personalized advice, and see our article on How to Charter a Cruise Ship .

How to Book Your Group Cruise

Follow these steps for a seamless group cruise booking process:

  • Pick a cruise line & ship catering to your group’s interests, budget, and size.
  • Select desired itinerary & dates. Look for lower demand periods for possible discounts.
  • Estimate headcount to determine the number of cabins needed.
  • Contact the cruise line or agent to place a tentative hold while finalizing details.
  • Confirm details like promo codes, pricing, amenities, and payment schedule.
  • Send invitations and promote the group cruise to prospective guests.
  • Collect deposits from those confirmed to join. Cruise deposits are typically $250-$500 per person.
  • Submit rooming list and process the group’s initial deposits as the deadline approaches.
  • Monitor bookings and release unfilled allotments if needed as the date nears.
  • Final payment is typically due 60-90 days pre-cruise.
  • Set sail and enjoy!

Pro Tip: Let your cruise booking agent handle logistics like promotions, invoicing, and waitlists for a stress-free process.

Important Tips:

  • Book early for the best group rates and availability
  • Rates are based on double occupancy per cabin
  • Pay deposits on time to avoid rate hikes

Group Cruise Payment and Savings Guide

Embarking on a group cruise offers exciting experiences and significant savings. Understanding payment procedures and available discounts is key to maximizing these benefits.

Payment Details

A preliminary deposit is crucial to confirm your booking. This amount fluctuates based on the cruise line, destination, and duration.

Final Payment:

Complete payments are typically expected 60-90 days before sailing. It’s vital to be aware of this deadline to avoid any last-minute cancellations.

Payment Modes:

Cruise lines mainly accept credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers. Always confirm accepted methods with your travel agent or cruise line.

Maximizing Group Cruise Savings

A group cruise typically offers savings between 5% and 40% off the cruise line’s published rates for individual bookings . However, the specific group cruise discount depends on several factors, such as:

  • Chosen cruise line.
  • Seasonality.
  • Specific ship or route.
  • Group size.
  • Stateroom type.

Sometimes onboard credits are offered instead of fare discounts. Check with your agent for current promotions.

Top Savings Tips

  • Early Reservations : Book 12+ months out to secure preferred cabins at discounted group rates
  • Off-Peak Bookings : Opt for Fall and Winter when fares are lower.
  • Single Supplement Offers : Some lines waive single supplements for the first guests in a cabin.
  • Promotional Deals : Check for regional or time-limited group cruise discounts, reduced deposits, or perks.
  • Proximity of Ports : Choosing a nearby departure port cuts associated travel costs.
  • Agent Assistance : Seasoned travel agents (such as The Vacationeer) can access special rates and added benefits.

Can we bring decorations for our group?

Yes, you can bring banners, signs, and decorations. Just confirm with your booking agent. Some items like confetti or sticking materials may be prohibited.

How formal are group cruise dinners?

Is it better to book a cruise through a travel agent? We say yes

Fran Golden

Going online to book an airline ticket or hotel stay is a familiar and fairly easy transaction. When you book a cruise, however — particularly your first cruise — you might want to reconsider the impulse to handle the transaction yourself through a cruise line website or an online advertiser with cheap prices. This DIY approach might not be the best way to find your dream vacation at sea.

In reality, it's not that simple to book a cruise. You will likely run into a lot of questions to which you have no ready answer.

That's where specialized cruise travel agents come into play. Their expertise can help you avoid mistakes, whether you are a first-timer or a repeat cruiser checking out a brand you have not tried before.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Why you should book through a cruise travel agent

You should consider booking a cruise through a travel agent because a knowledgeable agent can help you understand the nuances of a cruise purchase and help you make the best decisions for your vacation preferences.

When you book a cruise, you are making a vacation decision that goes way beyond a flight or hotel nights. Which ship you choose determines your dining and evening entertainment choices for the duration of your vacation. Which itinerary you choose impacts which destinations you'll visit and which shoreside activities will be available to you. It can be overwhelming to evaluate the options on your own if you've never cruised before.

group cruise travel agent

In addition, cruise fares can be hard to understand and compare. You might, for instance, see a fare listed online without the port charges, taxes and fees, which you only see after you give your personal details.

Plus, the price of your cruise includes accommodations, meals, entertainment and activities — and in some cases drinks, tips, shore excursions, Wi-Fi and other extras. There's a lot bundled into some fares and not as much with others. A travel agent can help you determine what your cruise fare gets you. The cheapest base cruise fare does not always provide the best value or best overall vacation deal.

Related: 4 scenarios when you should use a travel agent

You aren't just booking general passage on a ship, either, as you will be asked to pick a specific cabin and when you prefer to dine. Making a mistake in these categories can ruin your cruise experience, as there are such thing as "bad" cabins and dining times (think noisy or claustrophobic cabins, dinner at 8 p.m. with cranky children, etc.).

With cruises, you typically don't pay for your whole vacation upfront but rather put down a deposit, with final payment due at a later date. A cruise travel agent can ensure you don't miss any due dates.

Remember, you might be a DIY type when booking airlines and hotels, but booking a cruise is more complex. If you enjoy doing your own research, focus on what to do and see in the ports of call. Read about different ships, cruise lines and itineraries. However, when it comes to booking the cruise, we recommend you still contact a travel agent who specializes in cruises to help you learn a few tips and avoid any rookie mistakes.

Travel agents can get better deals on cruises

If you're concerned that working with an agent will make your cruise more expensive, don't be. Cruise travel agents receive the bulk of their income via commission from the cruise lines. Their service to you is usually free, though some might charge first-time clients a minimal fee. It's worth it.

In addition to sharing their expertise, the agent may have negotiated group space at lower rates with the cruise line, which could save you money on the cruise fare. The agent might also have first access to sale prices because the cruise lines notify their agent partners and loyalty club members first before they announce a sale to the public.

Related: 6 ways to get a deal on a cruise

Some cruise travel agents even throw in booking perks , such as a complimentary bottle of Champagne, awaiting your arrival in your cabin.

How to find a travel agent for a cruise

Cruise lines prefer that you use a travel agent rather than going online and booking directly. They have small in-house reservation teams, and when you have a question while making a booking, good luck in getting an expert on the phone in a timely manner.

Companies such as Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line provide online directories to help you find an experienced cruise travel agent near you.

group cruise travel agent

You can also find experienced and certified cruise travel agents through CLIA, the Cruise Lines International Association , which is the industry's main marketing group. Asking friends who have cruised to recommend a travel agent is another good idea.

Related: 5 unexpected places that sell cruises

You might get more personalized care from smaller agencies than from the huge online agencies, though websites such as icruise.com, Cruise.com and Cruise411.com also have experienced cruise agents. These larger online travel agencies can be a good option for those who prefer to make decisions and ask questions via chat. Just make sure you get the name and phone number of the representative for any follow-up questions.

Questions to ask a cruise travel agent

In choosing a cruise travel agent, you will want to tap into the person's specific expertise about the cruise line and ship you are considering. Anyone can read a ship deck plan outlining ship spaces (which you can find online), but you are looking for people who really know their stuff.

Look for travel agencies that are cruise-only or a home-based agent who specializes in cruises. If you are using a full-service travel agency, ask for the cruise desk.

Here are some questions to ask a travel agent to determine their expertise:

  • How often do you cruise?
  • Have you cruised on the line I am considering?
  • Have you cruised on the ship that I am considering, or do you have clients who have cruised that ship and provided a review of their vacation?
  • Do you have firsthand knowledge about the cruise destination? The itinerary?

You will also want to ask the travel agent if they have a preferred relationship or negotiated agreement with any specific lines that could lead to special perks for you.

Be aware that not all agents work with all cruise lines; some represent only a few preferred suppliers or specialize in higher-end cruises. They get bigger commissions from their preferred lines.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware if the agent seems to be putting you off the line you were originally considering, as this could be the reason. On the plus side, an agent who is a preferred supplier might have negotiated rates with the cruise line and be able to call in favors, such as that bottle of Champagne or a cabin upgrade .

group cruise travel agent

You should also ask if the travel agency offers 24/7 assistance (usually an 800 number) in case you have last-minute questions or something goes wrong before or during your trip.

The cruise travel agent should have questions for you as well, to better understand your dream vacation desires. If you are calling a cruise agency for the first time, the agent should be interviewing you as much as you are interviewing him or her. The agent should be focused on helping you choose the cruise line , ship and cabin that is right for you. Making the correct choices is very important to your overall cruise experience.

Bottom line

Booking a cruise is a complex enterprise. A cruise travel agent will guide you through choosing your cabin and dining times, deposits and final payment, and options for shore excursions and specialty dining. If you need to cancel the trip, the agent will also help you through the refund process. You'll have a lot less stress before and during your vacation if you book with an experienced agent.

Middle East latest: No concern expressed from Israel about UNRWA employees since 2011, review finds

An independent report commissioned after Israel alleged 12 UNRWA employees took part in the Hamas attacks has found Israel had not expressed concerns about anyone on the agency staff lists it gets annually for more than a decade.

The prime minister of Pakistan has praised Iran's "strong stand on the issue of Palestine".

Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed Ebrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, to his country for a three-day visit.

"Pakistan is also with the Palestinians," Mr Sharif said.

In televised remarks, Mr Raisi said the deaths caused by the Israeli military in Gaza were being committed with the support of the United States and other Western countries.

Regarding international organisations - including the United Nations - he said: "They say they support human rights, but they proved that they are inefficient."

Iran recently launched an unprecedented missile and drone attack against Israel - after an alleged Israeli strike in Syria that killed two Iranian generals.

Pakistan is among countries that have no diplomatic relations with Israel because of the issue of Palestinian statehood.

By Alistair Bunkall , Middle East correspondent

It's taken 199 days for the first senior Israeli to resign over the Hamas attacks on 7 October.

Major General Aharon Haliva, Israel's military intelligence chief, said that under his command, the division "did not live up to the task we were entrusted with".

The argument that has kept military heads in post - one made by generals, intelligence chiefs and even Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - is that judgement should be suspended while the war against Hamas is being fought.

There is cold logic in that, but almost seven months in, and with no conclusion in sight, judgement day is nearing and more Israelis are demanding accountability for the failure of their leaders.

General Haliva isn't the only IDF commander to express regret - he is the first to fall on his sword, though.

Others have hinted they will, when the time is right.

If they conclude that standing down is the honourable thing to do, then pressure will grow on Mr Netanyahu.

He remains the one leader yet to acknowledge blame.

It is unsustainable - although the prime minister's position is reasonably stable for now.

Tonight, Israelis are sitting down to a Jewish festival - Passover - with 132 people still being held hostage in Gaza and the defeat of Hamas looking increasingly unlikely.

Major General Haliva's resignation will not bring Mr Netanyahu down, but it might be the first brick to come out of the wall.

EU foreign ministers have agreed in principle to increase sanctions against Iran, the bloc's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has said.

It follows Iran's unprecedented missile and drone attack against Israel on 13 April.

There are already multiple European Union sanctions programmes against Iran.

These are for proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, human rights abuses, and supplying drones to Russia.

Several EU countries, however, have been calling for more sanctions regarding drones to cover missiles and transfers to proxy forces such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

"We have reached a political agreement in order to enlarge and expand the existing drone (sanctions) regime in order to cover missiles and their potential ... transfer to Russia," Mr Borrell told reporters following a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

Israel said that 99% of the objects launched towards it were shot down.

More resignations are possible after the head of Israeli military intelligence stood down earlier today, our  international affairs editor Dominic Waghorn  has said.

Major General Aharon Haliva admitted he failed to foresee and prevent the Hamas attacks in Israel on 7 October.

Asked whether there could be more resignations, Waghorn said: "I think so, potentially."

It is worth remembering that a "number of IDF commanders and intelligence chiefs have admitted responsibility and declared mea culpas in the wake of 7 October", he added.

Mr Haliva had written "quite a long resignation letter saying the burden of what he has to bear after 7 October is something that will live with him all his life".

Waghorn added that there is a "reckoning" as Israel tries to work out what happened on 7 October, which was a "massive intelligence and military failure".

"There will be a commission of inquiry and investigation," Waghorn said.

"It's the beginning of what will be a long and I think very painful process for Israel as it comes to terms with the failures that led to the worst loss of Jewish life since World War Two."

Israel did not express concerns about anyone on the UNRWA staff lists it received annually since 2011, an independent review has found.

The report was commissioned after Israel alleged that a dozen employees of the United Nations agency helping Palestinian refugees took part in the Hamas attacks in Israel on 7 October.

A number of countries, including the UK, froze donations to UNRWA as a result.

Some of those nations - and the EU - have since restored funding, but the UK has not.

The 48-page report said UNRWA has "robust" procedures to uphold the UN's principle of neutrality.

However, it said there were serious gaps in implementation, including staff publicly expressing political views, textbooks with "problematic content", and staff unions disrupting operations.

The report, led by French former foreign minister Catherine Colonna, said that between 2017 and 2022, allegations of neutrality being breached at UNRWA ranged annually from 7 to 55.

Between January 2022 and February 2024, UN investigators received 151 allegations - most of them related to social media posts "made public by external sources", the report added.

It said UNRWA shares lists of staff with host countries for its 32,000 staff, including about 13,000 in Gaza.

It added that Israeli officials never expressed concerns and informed panel members they did not consider the list to be a "screening or vetting process", but rather a procedure to register diplomats.

The Israeli foreign ministry told the panel that until March 2024, staff lists did not include Palestinian identification numbers, the report said.

Apparently based on those numbers, "Israel made public claims that a significant number of UNRWA employees are members of terrorist organizations", the panel said.

It added: "However, Israel has yet to provide supporting evidence of this."

Multiple countries supported Israel as it defended itself against Iran's unprecedented attack on 13 April.

Our  Middle East correspondent Alistair Bunkall explains the "surprising, informal collaboration" that has emerged in the region in this video...

US forces in Iraq and Syria have been targeted in two separate rocket and drone attacks in less than 24 hours, Reuters news agency reports, citing security sources and US officials.

At least one armed drone was launched at the Ain al Asad air base hosting US troops in the western Iraqi province of Anbar, a US official said.

That attack followed five rockets fired from Iraq yesterday towards US forces at a base in Rumalyn, northeastern Syria, according to US and Iraqi officials.

Referring to the rocket attack, Iraqi armed faction Kata'ib Hezbollah earlier denied it had resumed attacks on US forces after a three-month pause.

No casualties have been reported from the drone attacks.

On Saturday, a huge explosion at a military base in Iraq killed a member of an Iraqi security force that includes Iran-backed groups.

The force’s commander said it was an attack, while the army said it is investigating and there were no warplanes in the sky at the time.

The US denied involvement.

Mental illness could manifest among Palestinians in Gaza years from now, a UN expert has warned.

Tlaleng Mofokeng, UN special rapporteur on the right to health, warned it is "really important" to start considering the conflict's impact on the long-term wellbeing of Palestinians in Gaza.

"Of course, we see the physical injury, and because it's physical, one can appreciate the severity of it," she said.

"But acute mental distress that will then turn into anxiety and other kinds of mental illnesses later on in life is really, really important to start thinking intentionally about."

Ms Mofokeng said she is concerned about the risk of water and airborne diseases, and the lack of medical supplies, reproductive and mental health services in the territory.

"The health system in Gaza has been completely obliterated, and the right to health has been decimated at every level," she added.

Israeli troops have launched a surprise raid in the eastern part of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, Reuters is reporting.

Israel pulled its troops out of southern Gaza earlier this month, but their apparent return has caused residents to flee once more, the news agency added.

"They were too frightened," 42-year-old Ahmed Rezik said from a school where he is sheltering in the western part of Khan Younis.

"This morning many families who had left here in the past two weeks to go back home to Abassan came back," he told Reuters via a messaging app.

"They said tanks pushed in the eastern area of the town under heavy fire, and they had to run for their lives."

Meanwhile, Palestinian authorities said more bodies had been recovered from mass graves on the site of the city's main hospital, abandoned by Israeli troops (11.33 post).

Further south, there are reports of fresh air strikes in Rafah, where more than half the enclave's 2.3 million people have sought shelter.

19th Edition of Global Conference on Catalysis, Chemical Engineering & Technology

Victor Mukhin

  • Scientific Program

Victor Mukhin, Speaker at Chemical Engineering Conferences

Title : Active carbons as nanoporous materials for solving of environmental problems

However, up to now, the main carriers of catalytic additives have been mineral sorbents: silica gels, alumogels. This is obviously due to the fact that they consist of pure homogeneous components SiO2 and Al2O3, respectively. It is generally known that impurities, especially the ash elements, are catalytic poisons that reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst. Therefore, carbon sorbents with 5-15% by weight of ash elements in their composition are not used in the above mentioned technologies. However, in such an important field as a gas-mask technique, carbon sorbents (active carbons) are carriers of catalytic additives, providing effective protection of a person against any types of potent poisonous substances (PPS). In ESPE “JSC "Neorganika" there has been developed the technology of unique ashless spherical carbon carrier-catalysts by the method of liquid forming of furfural copolymers with subsequent gas-vapor activation, brand PAC. Active carbons PAC have 100% qualitative characteristics of the three main properties of carbon sorbents: strength - 100%, the proportion of sorbing pores in the pore space – 100%, purity - 100% (ash content is close to zero). A particularly outstanding feature of active PAC carbons is their uniquely high mechanical compressive strength of 740 ± 40 MPa, which is 3-7 times larger than that of  such materials as granite, quartzite, electric coal, and is comparable to the value for cast iron - 400-1000 MPa. This allows the PAC to operate under severe conditions in moving and fluidized beds.  Obviously, it is time to actively develop catalysts based on PAC sorbents for oil refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and various technologies of organic synthesis.

April 12, 2024 - Israel-Hamas war

By Chris Lau, Sana Noor Haq, Adrienne Vogt , Matt Meyer and Tori B. Powell , CNN

Our live coverage of Israel's war on Hamas in Gaza has moved  here .

USAID worker killed in Israel, agency says

From CNN's Jennifer Hansler

A staff member with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) died Friday in the Israeli port city of Jaffa, the agency announced.

The male staffer was with USAID’s West Bank and Gaza mission, the agency said in a brief statement.

USAID did not provide details on the circumstances around his death or his identity or citizenship.

“He was a dedicated member of our team for more than two decades, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues,” USAID said.

USAID is working with the US Embassy to work out details about the fatal incident and its follow-up investigation, it said.

US expects Iran to carry out direct strikes against targets inside Israel, sources say

From CNN's MJ Lee and Natasha Bertrand

The United States currently expects Iran will carry out strikes against multiple targets inside Israel and that Iranian proxies could also be involved in carrying out the attacks, according to a senior administration official and a source familiar with the intelligence.

The targets would likely be both inside Israel and around the region.

The beginning of a state-on-state conflict between Iran and Israel would mark a serious escalation in the region that the US has hoped to avoid.

US sees Iran moving military assets including drones and cruise missiles, sources say

From Natasha Bertrand and Oren Liebermann

The US observed Iran moving military assets around internally, including drones and cruise missiles, signaling that it is possibly preparing to attack Israeli targets from inside its own territory, according to two people familiar with US intelligence.

It is not clear whether Iran is preparing to strike from its soil as part of an initial attack, or if it is posturing to try to deter Israel or the US from conducting a possible counter strike on its territory.

One of the people said the US had observed Iran readying as many as 100 cruise missiles.

Some context: The Iranians want their retaliatory strike on Israel — a response to the Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate last week in Damascus — to be "significant," one of the people familiar with the intelligence said. But they also want to avoid getting embroiled in a direct war with Israel and the US, CNN has reported, which is why US intelligence has assessed that Iran may use its proxy forces to launch the first attack.

Israeli settlers storm village in West Bank and kill at least 1 Palestinian. Here's what you should know

From CNN staff

A view of damaged houses and burning vehicles after a raid by Israeli settlers on a town near Ramallah, West Bank on April 12.

Hundreds of armed Israeli settlers stormed a village in the occupied West Bank on Friday, setting fire to several homes and cars — and leaving at least one Palestinian dead — in one of the largest attacks by settlers this year, according to Palestinian officials.

The settlers attacked Al-Mughayyir village, east of Ramallah, raided homes and fired gunshots at residents, according to Amin Abu-Alia, the head of the village council. Videos obtained by CNN show parts of the village burning, with smoke billowing over several buildings and settlers lobbing rocks. Houses and cars are seen completely burnt up, with sounds of gunfire and clashes heard in the background.

Here are other headlines you should know:

  • More Israeli attacks: An Israeli airstrike early Friday killed at least 29 people and injured dozens more after troops targeted a house belonging to the well-known Al-Tabatibi family in eastern Gaza City, according to a local health official. Israeli forces also surrounded and attacked the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, wounding several journalists and at least one other person. And in the occupied West Bank, troops killed two Hamas members in a raid on the city of Tubas, according to Israeli and Palestinian officials.
  • Hezbollah-Israel clashes: Around 40 rockets were fired from Lebanon on Friday evening, according to the Israeli military. Some were intercepted and the rest fell in open areas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement. Israeli warplanes also carried out several airstrikes on Friday, targeting "military buildings" used by Hezbollah fighters in parts of southern Lebanon, the IDF said.
  • Iranian threats: US President Joe Biden told reporters Friday he expects an attack from Iran will happen “sooner than later," with the White House adding that there is a "very credible" threat of Iranian retaliatory strikes against Israel. Additionally, the US Defense Department is moving additional assets to the Middle East region, a defense official told CNN, as the US and Israel brace for the potential attack . Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and US Central Command Commander Gen. Erik Kurilla on Friday discussed preparations for the  potential attack .
  • Warnings amid Iranian threats: France , Germany, Canada and the United States are among countries that are warning their citizens not to travel to the region due to the threat of an Iranian attack against Israel.
  • Humanitarian aid: The Israeli military does not understand how humanitarian operations work, a top United Nations official said Friday, maintaining there is a "degree of mistrust" that needs to be resolved between the IDF and nongovernmental organizations on the ground in Gaza.
  • Sanctions: The European Council has  adopted sanctions  against three Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad entities , in light of "their responsibilities in the brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attacks" that occurred across Israel on October 7. The US is also sanctioning four leaders of Hamas’ cyber and drone operations based in Gaza and Lebanon, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller announced on Friday.

US will attempt to intercept launches at Israel if feasible, US officials say

From CNN's Oren Liebermann and Natasha Bertrand

The US will attempt to intercept any weapons launched at Israel if it’s feasible to do so, two US officials told CNN, in an indication of the level of ongoing cooperation between the two militaries before an anticipated Iranian attack .

US Navy forces in the Red Sea have previously intercepted long-range missiles launched from the Houthis in Yemen toward Israel. US forces in Iraq and Syria could also potentially intercept drones and rockets targeting northern Israel, depending on the location from which they’re launched.

Gen. Erik Kurilla, the commander of US Central Command, has been in Israel meeting with the country’s security leadership. On Friday, the Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, met with Kurilla.

There have been a number of conversations where US officials have urged Israel not to escalate the situation in retaliating against Iran, according to one of the US officials.

Remember: An Iranian attack is expected in response to Israel’s deadly strike of Tehran's consulate in Damascus, Syria, last week.

The Damascus attack was the latest incident to stoke fears of a wider regional conflict breaking out in the Middle East during Israel's campaign in Gaza.

Diplomatic efforts: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has held a slew of calls to foreign counterparts aimed at pressuring Iran not to attack Israel.

The top US diplomat spoke with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Friday, according to a readout from State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Blinken also spoke with the Turkish, Chinese and Saudi foreign ministers in recent days, Miller said.

Israeli settlers kill at least 1 Palestinian while storming West Bank village

From CNN’s Kareem Khadder and Zeena Saifi in Jerusalem and CNN’s Benjamin Brown in London

A view of damaged houses and burning vehicles after a raid by Israeli settlers on a town near Ramallah, West Bank on April 12.

Hundreds of armed Israeli settlers stormed a village in the occupied West Bank on Friday, setting fire to several homes and cars in one of the largest attacks by settlers this year, according to Palestinian officials.

At least one Palestinian man was killed when shots were fired by Israeli settlers in the village of Al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah, according to the head of the village council Amin Abu-Alia. He said he identified the killed Palestinian as his 26-year-old relative named Jihad Abu-Alia, who was meant to get married this summer.

At least 25 others were injured in the rampage, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah, the scale of which has not been seen since hundreds of settlers stormed through the villages of  Turmusayya  and  Huwara  in two separate incidents last year.

Between 1,000 and 1,200 settlers surrounded the village, and around 500 stormed it just after midday local time on Friday, blocking all the roads in the area, Abu-Alia told CNN.

He added that Israeli security forces informed Palestinian officials that the settlers were looking for a 14-year-old Israeli boy who had gone missing earlier in the day.

They attacked the village, raided homes and fired gunshots at residents, Abu-Alia said. Videos obtained by CNN show parts of the village burning, with smoke billowing over several buildings and settlers lobbing rocks. Houses and cars are seen completely burnt up, with sounds of gunfire and clashes heard in the background.

According to Abu-Alia, the Israeli military arrived at the scene at around 3 p.m. and didn’t stop the settlers from attacking the village. Israeli soldiers allowed them to raid homes, prevented Palestinian residents from moving around and blocked ambulances from reaching the injured, he added.

Abu-Alia told CNN settlers stole approximately 70 sheep from the Palestinian village.

In response to a question by CNN, the IDF said “violent riots were instigated in multiple locations in the area” following the search for the boy.

Israel says airstrikes targeted Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon

Israeli warplanes carried out several airstrikes on Friday, targeting "military buildings" used by Hezbollah fighters in parts of southern Lebanon, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The areas include the Aita al-Shaab and the Taybeh in southern Lebanon, said Avichay Adraee, I DF spokesperson for Arab media,  in a post on X.

"During the day, several shells were fired from Lebanon towards the Upper Galilee region, without causing any casualties. IDF forces attacked the sources of fire," Adraee added.

The Israeli airstrikes were before the 40 rockets that were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel Friday evening and claimed by Hezbollah.

Biden expects an attack from Iran will happen "sooner than later"

From CNN's Samantha Waldenberg

US President Joe Biden gives remarks in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House campus on Friday in Washington, DC.

US President Joe Biden expects an attack from Iran will happen “sooner than later," he told reporters at the White House Friday.

“I don’t want to get into secure information but my expectation is sooner than later,” Biden said when asked how imminent an attack on Israel was.

Asked what his message to Tehran is right now, the president said “Don’t.”

In response to more shouted questions from reporters asking if American troops were at risk, Biden returned to the podium and said that the United States is "devoted” to the defense of Israel.

“We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed,” Biden said.

Remember: The United States says it is on high alert for a significant Iranian retaliatory attack following Israel's deadly strike on Tehran's consulate in Damascus last week, raising fears of a wider regional war. There remains a “real,” “credible” and “viable” threat of Iran launching strikes, the White House said earlier Friday, following Israel’s attack on  a diplomatic compound in Syria that killed three Iranian generals.
