Hanson announce 2022 Australian and New Zealand tour

The pop-rock trio's new album 'Red Green Blue' is out today

US pop-rock trio Hanson have announced they’ll return to Australia and New Zealand in November for a string of headline shows in support of latest album ‘Red Green Blue’.

The siblings will kick off the run at Perth’s Astor Theatre on November 6 before continuing along to Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne before heading to Auckland to wrap up on November 19. See tour dates below. Tickets are on sale next Thursday (26 May) at 12pm local time, with a Frontier Touring pre-sale kicking off on Tuesday (May 24).

“This tour is an exciting chance to reunite with our fans all over the world and celebrate three decades of music,” Taylor Hanson commented in a statement accompanying the announcement. “We can’t wait to come together with fans across Australia and New Zealand, and share music live on stage once again.”

Hanson, best known for their 1997 hit ‘MMMBop’, were last in Australia in 2019 in support of their symphonic collection ‘String Theory’. That tour saw them take the stages alongside a symphony orchestra to reimagine their back catalogue.

The band’s forthcoming tour is in support of ‘Red Green Blue’, which arrives today (May 20). The record is comprised of three solo albums – one from each member – and has featured singles like ‘Child At Heart’, ‘Write You A Song’ and ‘Don’t Let Me Down’.

“Going into our 30th year as a band, we felt like it was imperative we continue to tell our story like only we can, and telling stories in ways that will continue to challenge us to grow and give people new reasons to listen,” Isaac Hanson commented at the time of the album’s announcement.

“‘Red Green Blue’ is about sharing what has made us a band that has been able to weather so many storms.”

Pop-rock trio Hanson, featuring brothers Taylor, Zac and Isaac of the same last name, is returning to Aotearoa in November this year.

The band of brothers will bring their Red Green Blue 2022 tour to Australia and New Zealand later this year.

They shot to fame with their 1997 hit MMMBop, and 30 years later, they're heading out on tour once again.

Taylor Hanson said in a statement issued by the US band, "This tour is an exciting chance to reunite with our fans all over the world and celebrate three decades of music. We can't wait to come together with fans across Australia and New Zealand, and share music live on stage once again."

Brothers Isaac (guitar, vocals, bass, piano), Taylor (keyboards, vocals, percussion) and Zac (drums, vocals, piano) will take to the stage at Auckland's Powerstation theatre in Mount Eden on Saturday November 19.

Red Green Blue is also the title of their newest album - their 11th studio album combining three solo-led projects. Each brother produced a third of the album: Taylor is Red, Isaac is Green, and Zac is Blue.

The band was a huge part of the late 90s music scene following the release of their debut studio album Middle of Nowhere in 1997. The album hit number one in Australia, the UK, Germany and Taiwan, selling 10 million copies worldwide.

Their following Christmas album, Snowed In, became the best-selling holiday album in 1997 in the US - and reached number 12 on the official New Zealand Music Chart.

The Red Green Blue 2022 tour will premiere the 15 songs on their new album as well as celebrating 30 years of music.

It's Hanson's first major tour since 2019 when they toured with their album String Theory.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday May 26.

Trio will play several shows this November

Hanson will return to Australia and New Zealand this November with their Red Green Blue 2022 Tour. The trio will play Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland in November 2022. The brothers will be supporting their new  Red Green Blue   album, due May 20th via 3CG Records

Frontier Members will gain access to presale tickets on Tuesday, May 24th at noon local time, before the general public on sale on Thursday, May 26th at noon local time.

Beginning in June in Europe, the Red Green Blue World Tour will bring Hanson to the US and Canada from July-September, Latin America in September, and Australia & New Zealand in November. The band’s first major tour since their String Theory album and tour in 2018-2019, fans will be in store for a tour which not only features the premiere of 15 songs from the new project but will also be the first tour to include live performances of 2020’s Against The World as well as career-spanning set lists of fan favorites. The US and Canada leg of the tour is produced by Live Nation while the Australian and New Zealand trek is produced by Frontier Touring and Chugg Entertainment.

Travel to New Zealand – Episode 641

Hear about a two week New Zealand road trip as the Amateur Traveler talks to Hanson Cheng.

Hanson was in New Zealand for a total of 3 months but has a selected a 2-week itinerary for us. Hanson did a trip from Auckland in the North Island to Christchurch in the South Island. He rented a camper van and recommends you get one with a bed and a toilet to have more options where you can stay.

On the North Island, he recommends heading to the Coromandel Peninsula near Auckland with a stop along the way to hike The Pinnacles. He then suggests a visit to Cathedral cove during the day then again at night for the stargazing. For an unusual experience bring a shovel to Hot Water Beach . Dig a hole in the sand near low tide and let the underground hot springs turn your hole into a hot tub. Visit the beautiful nearby Karangahake Gorge for a hike to see the remains of old mines in the area.

From there he takes you down to Tongariro National Park for more hiking, although we also talk about the option of exploring Hobbiton near Matamata or the culture and outdoor activities of Rotorua. He talks about an alternative free spot for seeing glow worms at Mangapohue Natural Bridge Walk near Waitomo. After a stop in Wellington, Hanson heads to the South Island on a ferry.

On the northern end of the South Island, there is more hiking at Abel Tasman National Park and what may be Hanson’s favorite stop in all of New Zealand Wharariki Beach. At the right time at Wharariki, you can walk out to a seal colony. You can’t approach them, but they can approach you.

Mount Cook is Hanson’s favorite spot to go hiking and camping. He says that Roy’s peak has one of the best views in New Zealand.

Queenstown is a thrill center. Hanson went skydiving there. We talk about bungee jumping, zorbing , and other crazy Kiwi activities. Even if you don’t like crazy adventures Queenstown still has great sites. Moki Lake near Queenstown is the “epitome of a perfect campsite” in his opinion.

After a visit to the Fjord lands near Milford Sound, he headed down to Porpoise Bay and Cannibal Bay. You can swim with porpoises at Porpoise Bay where Hanson took surfing lessons. Then Hanson headed up to Christchurch where he flew out.

Whether you explore just the North Island, or just the South Island or both, a road trip through New Zealand will delight you.

Listening to this podcast has got me researching camper vans and weather forecasts for NZ. I’ve been to NZ many times but mainly for family and would love to take the time to explore further afield especially on the South Island. Just need to convince my other half ?
