Idina Menzel announces Take Me or Leave Me concert tour

Idina Menzel has announced her 2024 Take Me or Leave Me concert tour.

On Tuesday, the Broadway star revealed that she will be hitting the road later this year for her first tour in nearly eight years.

"I was really missing the connection with my fans," Idina told Billboard in a new interview. "I have my new musical Redwood at La Jolla Playhouse that I'm passionate about, and it's been occupying me. I thought, if that goes through another iteration, I wanted to make sure I got my time with my fans from a personal perspective as opposed to through a character."

The 21-stop U.S. tour will kick off in Seattle, Washington on 19 July, before visiting cities including Los Angeles, Dallas, Charleston, New York and Las Vegas, and concludes in Greensboro, North Carolina on 18 August.

The tour is named after the Tony Award-winning singer's hit song from the 1996 Broadway musical Rent, in which she played Maureen Johnson.

The star revealed that the tour will feature a career-spanning set list of hits, including songs from musicals she's performed in, such as Wicked, Frozen and Rent, as well as hits from her own albums.

Idina also took to Instagram to announce the news, revealing that she will be "doing a vintage set as well as lots of new material".

Idina most recently starred as Jesse in Redwood, a musical about a grieving woman who leaves her life in New York, from 25 February to 31 March.

F amed Broadway star Idina Menzel is all set to hit the road with her Take Me Or Leave Me concert tour this coming summer, and fans can anticipate a “vintage set” from the celebrated performer.

The title of the tour is a nod to her beloved performance of the song from the iconic 1996 Broadway show Rent .

Idina , in her conversation with Billboard , shared, “Maureen was always a character who lived boldly and authentically, perhaps to her own detriment [laughs]. I have such a connection to that song and miss playing her, but this tour is named from a fresh angle. It signifies who I am at this stage in my life. It’s been quite some time since I saw my fans, and through this tour, I want to express both my evolution and the constants in my life. I hope to connect with them sharing my journey, trusting that they’ll accept me as I am.”

Her itinerary includes a month-long series of personal and up-close performances touching down in major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, and Chicago, among others.

On her Instagram page, Idina declared her excitement about performing “a vintage set along with plenty of new content, aiming for authenticity.”

Broadway star, actress, singer-songwriter- there’s nothing Idina Menzel (born 30 May 1971) aka Idina Mentzel from New York, US can’t do. As the voice of Elsa in Disney’s animation 2013 “Frozen” and lending vocals to the smash-hit song “Let It Go” became a worldwide phenomenon sending Menzel into the stratosphere.

Born into a Jewish family, when her parents divorced at 15 Idina began performing at bar mitzvah’s and weddings as a singer before enrolling at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she studied performing arts.

In 1995, Menzel scored her first professional job as she joined the cast of the Broadway musical “Rent” as Maureen Johnson, a role which earned her a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Ending her successful run in 1997, Menzel released her debut solo album “Still I Can’t Be Still” through Hollywood Records in 1998.

Over the next couple of years, Menzel played small roles in theatre productions “Hair”, “The Wild Party” and “The Vagina Monologues” before landing the prolific role of Elphaba in the award winning musical “Wicked” in 2003. It was this role that really showcased Menzel’s incredible talent and powerful mezzo-soprano vocals and in her two year stint, she received the Tony award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical.

In 2004 Menzel released her second album “Here” before returning back to her role in “Rent” for the film adaptation the following year. Releasing her third album “I Stand” in 2008 allowed Menzel to take time out to support the release as she spent most of the year and 2009 touring the album, playing sold out shows across the country with Josh Groban and saxophonist Ravi Coltrone joining her on stage at The Lincoln Centre in New York City.

During 2010 Menzel embarked on the “Barefoot at the Symphony Tour” which allowed her to perform with symphony orchestras taking the tour nationwide and branching out to England and Australia. Later that year she had the opportunity to perform at the White House for President Obama and his wife singing the songs “Defying Gravity” and “What I Did for Love”.

It was her role as Elsa in the Disney’s chart-topping “Frozen” in 2013 and its enchanting lead single “Let It Go” which captivated audiences across the globe. The track won an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 2014 Oscar’s where Menzel also performed it live. Later that year she released her fourth album “Holiday Wishes” which peaked at number six in the US Billboard Charts.

With a voice which captured the essence of Disney in modernity and a heart of gold, Menzel continues spreading joy to the masses both through her music and philanthropy work.

What can you say about a jewish New York girl who became an artist. She is a New York girl, born and raised in Queens. She started her career working as a wedding singer and bar mitzvah singer . Her education followed in New York. She went on to be cast in her first show as Maureen in the Broadway show Rent. She followed that by her wickedly performance as Elphaba in Wicked. Currently, she is starring in the Broadway show If/Then. She plays the part of Elizabeth Vaughan. The show spoke of the possibilities that can come from choosing a path to follow. She sang the hit song, "You Learn To Live Without". Personally, I was given the opportunity of hearing her sing in this performance. Her voice filled the Richard Rodgers Theatre. When the spotlight shined on her, I felt like she was personally singing to me. After the show, I waited outside the stage door for her appearance. When she finally exited the door, I screamed with delight. She took the time to sign my playbill.

The songs she has sung are a part of my daily life. I love to sing songs she has performed while in the shower, car, home, and at karaoke night at a local restaurant. Her performance in the television show Glee brought her talents to the public. Her recent performance in the movie, Frozen was heard by so many young girls as well as older girls. She voiced the character Queen Elsa, a character that sang 'Let it Go' - a favorite song of mine and a huge hit! I enjoyed hearing her singing the Star Spangled Banner at the 85th. Annual MLB All- Star Game. On my IPhone, I have listened to her performance at Radio City Music Hall. I hope she will appear in the next installment of the movie Enchanted. Perhaps, she will get to sing in this movie, too! Whatever she does in the future, Idena Menzel will always shine like the spotlight that shone on her in If/ Then.

Whilst her name may not ring any bells for many people, to the musical-loving world she is a Goddess. With leading roles in a number of hit Broadway musicals, Idina Menzel has cemented her place in musical theatre history and rightly so.

Playing Elphaba in Wicked is no simple task and Idina Menzel was the first to fill the shoes of the Wicked Witch of the West when the musical opened on Broadway in 2003. It was her performance in this role that won her the prestigious Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical.

As a UK fan of Idina Menzel, one lives in hope of an announcement of a UK show. So when it was announced that she would be playing one night at the Royal Albert Hall back in October 2011, I knew that it was an opportunity that I could not miss. The most special moments of the night came when Idina sang those songs that she is most famous for. "Defying Gravity" and "For Good" were simply stunning. Carving a career as a singer/songwriter over the years since leaving Wicked, the original material that Idina performed on the night was just as beautiful.

She truly is musical theatre royalty and I encourage anyone to witness Idina Menzel's talent live to fully appreciate the gift that she has blessed Broadway with over recent years. One can only hope that she will slap on the green paint and reprise the role that made her the powerhouse she is today, the Wicked Witch of the West.

American singer and actress Idina Menzel was a lesser known pop star having spent a large amount of her time in theatre productions. Her albums were not considered to be particularly commercial successful however after the phenomena of Frozen she has become far more well known across the globe as the voice of heroin Elsa and her synonymous female empowerment anthem 'Let It Go'.

There is no doubt about it that Menzel is very much a theatre performer, and she uses a lot of her training when conducting her live show. There is great annunciation and you get the impression that the microphone is of slight redundancy as Idina could clearly captivate the whole room with her powerful vocal unaided. There is real passion when she performs some of her older, heartfelt tracks including 'So Beautiful'. She also performs a selection of covers from some of her favourite artists including Joni Mitchell and Radiohead which go over well with the audience especially as Idina explains her choices between the tracks. The largest singalong is of course for 'Let It Go' as this feel good anthem cannot be sang at anything other than full volume.

Idina Menzel was great to see live! Not only did she do the songs that she's famous for, she also did several classic covers and originals. Her interaction with fans is very good and entertaining. I saw her in Japan where the majority of the people who went to see her didn't understand English, but that didn't stop her from talking and interacting with us. She even came down into the audience and let a few lucky fans sing! One of my favorite moments was when she sang a capella sans mic. I was in the 16th row, so it was a bit easier for me to hear, but even the people who were in the bleachers were able to hear her powerful voice. I laughed, I cried, and I sang along to the songs that I knew. She is an incredible performer and if she ever comes back to Japan, I will definitely be seeing her again!

Amazing. Even with a voice at less than 100% due to laryngitis this woman can sing notes only dogs can hear.

Great exposure for the latest album "idina". Some strong songs and very sad overtones. The Rent songs were so emotional. She made reference to this being her 2nd Manchester visit and how strong she felt the city was. Rightly so.

We wanted the hits and we got them. Dear Prudence mashed up with Do You Want To Build A Snowman was pure genius.

The Let It Go section with the kids could have been vomit inducing but was Idina at her most simple and bare.

It is so refreshing not only to hear a woman with a phenomenal voice, elegant stage presence but with a personality and big heart to match. Idina is the most humbling performers I have ever seen. Many times a minimum amount of children are invited up on the stage to sing along or to be a part of the show. Idina went above and beyond by extending the invitation to all the children come to the stage and sit next to her to sing "Let it Go", giving every child a chance to be under the spot light. Such an beautiful memory for a child to keep, singing with Elsa!

She's perfect and the greatest singer of all time! And so cute and so funny! And she's perfect! She sang 2 songs from Frozen, 2 songs from Rent, 3 songs from Wicked AND a bunch of her original songs including cake! And she almost sang Smile and I almost lost my shit! SHE'S PERFECT!!!

Amazing performer with phenomenal vocals. She was hilarious and gives you your money's worth! I'll definitely see her again next time she's in my area. Thanks for a great show, Idina!

Idina Menzel returns to UK with solo concert tour

One year on from her concert at the Royal Albert Hall, Menzel will play the Apollo Theatre for one week only from Monday 8 to Sunday 14 October, followed by Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on Tuesday 16, and Manchester’s Palace Theatre on Wednesday 17.

Backed by a 25-piece orchestra, Menzel will sing songs from her musical theatre and pop repertoire, including a few personal favourites and some new material. Menzel arrives in the UK following a US tour.

Menzel won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for creating the role of Elphaba in Stephen Schwartz’ Wicked on Broadway. She reprised the role when the musical transferred to the West End’s Apollo Victoria Theatre, winning the Whatsonstage.com Award for her performance in 2007.

The star received a Tony nomination for her 1996 Broadway debut as Maureen in Rent . Her other theatre credits include See What I Wanna See at the Public Theater, the 2001 Encores! production Hair , Broadway’s Aida and the 2002 Off-Broadway production of The Vagina Monologues . Menzel also recently appeared in Glee , playing the coach of rival Glee club Vocal Adrenaline.

The name of the tour - 'Take Me or Leave Me'- is inspired by the song in Rent which Menzel sung as one of the show's original cast members. Menzel shared with Billboard , "Obviously, many, many years later, it’s about who I am in this point in my life. I haven’t seen my fans in a long time, and I want to show them how I’ve changed, and how I haven’t. I want to show them my experiences and hopefully, they’ll love me no matter what."

The shows will feature fan favorites from throughout Menzel’s career, showcasing hits from “Wicked,” “Rent” and newer music from her recent dance album “Drama Queen.”

She also starred in Michael John LaChiusa ’s musical “See What I Wanna See,” directed by Ted Sperling at The Public Theater . Other Off-Broadway credits include the pre-Broadway production of “Rent” and “The Vagina Monologues.” Menzel is consistently lauded for her strong yet emotional live performances. The Take Me or Leave Me Tour will visit Las Vegas, Austin, Orlando, and Toronto this summer with performances at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA , and the Beacon Theatre in New York, NY .

Several different presales will kick off as early as Wednesday, April 24th at 10am local time. After that, fans will have the chance to get any remaining tickets through a general onsale that begins this Friday, April 26th at 10am local time.

What Are Those Official Platinum Tickets?

If you’re seeing very expensive tickets that are not VIP, those are official platinum tickets. These tickets are very expensive and are offered well over the standard ticket prices. They’re the kind of ticket pricing that is unfair to fans. The Event Organizer(s) has priced these tickets according to their market value (aka dynamic pricing). In other words, ticket pricing can go up or down, and it usually goes up.

Artists can choose not to offer Official Platinum or limit the amount for charity purposes. The Cure , Pearl Jam and U2 have all been recognized as artists that don’t use these dynamic pricing tactics.

Official platinum tickets do not include VIP packages. They can be bought during a presale without a presale code (doesn’t always apply to Verified Fan). Availability and pricing for official platinum tickets are subject to change based on demand.

If money is not an object, you should definitely bank on the convenience of getting Official Platinum tickets.

Pro Tips When Buying Your Tickets

First, on the day of the presale or general onsale (whichever you prefer), login to your Ticketmaster account ( go to my account or sign in located on the upper right corner of the page ) at least 15 minutes ahead of the sale time. If you don’t have one,  create one now .

Be sure to add your billing info (aka credit card info) before jumping into the digital queue for a quick check-out. Once the presale starts, remain in the digital queue. Only use one browser window because using multiple browsers or devices and multiple accounts with the same phone number can result in errors. Trust, it’s happened to us before! Don’t refresh your page, do be patient, don’t leave your page, do get those tickets!

What To Do If Tickets Are Sold Out?

If tickets sell out, your other option is to buy them via online resellers like VividSeats or StubHub. When all else fails, we prefer these resell options because both offer a 100% Guarantee. You can also purchase resell tickets through Ticketmaster’s resell program. Just search for the concert or event you want to attend , and see if they have any resell tickets available. We recommend you compare the three options and find out which works best for you.

Alternatively, you can hit it old school style and show up at the concert when the box office opens and wish upon a star that they release more tickets, or hopefully, another concert-goer has an extra ticket to sell at face-value or even giveaway for free. Swifties have been spoiled, between Taylor Swift ’s most epic live show yet, the Eras Tour movie (which hits different from the actual tour experience) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) complete with its "glown-up" album cover . Amidst all the current Swift-related happenings in the world, Frozen star Idina Menzel threw things back to her own Swiftie moment, circa 2015 during the 1989 World Tour . It’s most definitely a great all-time on-stage moment for the artist that's worth melting for. However, the actress forget Swift's Olaf costume

Just ahead of the calendar turning to November, Idina Menzel took to her Instagram to recall where she was on All Hallow's Eve eight years ago, referring to the night as the “best Halloween ever.” The photo she shared can be viewed below:

That’s right, Idina Menzel took to the stage with Ms. Taylor Swift that night while she was playing Tampa, Florida. If you weren’t following Swift’s memorable 1989 era back then, then know that the singer would regularly bring out famous artists to her shows on the regular to sing a song and, most of the time, those performances would be duets. On Halloween, the crowd went absolutely wild when Swift brought out Menzel to sing “Let It Go.” 

I love the Uncut Gems alum for reminding us all of that major moment, but I can’t believe she left out the most important part of the whole appearance. At the beginning of the performance, the Midnights artist dressed as Olaf the Snowman, and the Wicked alum came out in an Elsa costume before the pair quickly changed into their fancy getups and walked across the stage together. Idina Menzel Opens Up About the ‘Versatility’ of Her Career That Inspired Her Take Me or Leave Me Tour

Idina Menzel is heading back out on the road.

The superstar announced her Take Me or Leave Me Tour exclusively via Billboard on Tuesday (April 23), marking her first tour in nearly eight years. “I was really missing the connection with my fans,” she tells Billboard of the decision to tour again. “I have my new musical Redwood at La Jolla Playhouse that I’m passionate about, and it’s been occupying me. I thought, if that goes through another iteration, I wanted to make sure I got my time with my fans from a personal perspective as opposed to through a character.”

The North American run kicks off July 19 in Seattle, Wash., before stretching throughout the summer, hitting venues in Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas and more before wrapping up on August 18 in Greensboro, NC. The tour title, of course, is inspired by the beloved song, “Take Me or Leave Me” from the musical Rent , in which Menzel made her Tony-nominated Broadway debut as Maureen Johnson in 1996.

“Maureen was always uninhibited and extremely comfortable in who she was, maybe to the fault [laughs],” Menzel says. “I’ve always loved that song and I miss that character, but I would say I’m naming the tour this from a different perspective. Obviously, many, many years later, it’s about who I am in this point in my life. I haven’t seen my fans in a long time, and I want to show them how I’ve changed, and how I haven’t. I want to show them my experiences and hopefully, they’ll love me no matter what.”

The beloved actress’ tour will feature a career-spanning setlist of hits, which she’s currently putting together and stays “up all night thinking about,” and she promises an “eclectic” mix of hits from her own albums and jazz standards as well as musicals she’s performed in like Wicked , Rent and, of course, Frozen . “I often wrestle with the fact that I often assume that people will be bored if I sing the same songs over and over, like ‘Let It Go’ or ‘Defying Gravity,'” she shares. “I’m always trying to rewrite things, discover or cover new songs, reinterpret them and then I always get this feedback of ‘No, we want to hear these songs!’ I’m trying to strike a balance between performing songs the way I think my audience would want to hear them and feeling like, as an artist, that I’m growing and singing the songs in a way that their lyrics resonate with me. I juggle it and then I sit with my band and we play with it and assess it and sort of see what kind of floats to the top.”

She concludes in theme with the tour’s “Take Me or Leave Me” title, “I’ve always said back in the day that versatility was my curse. Now, I embrace my versatility. It makes me who I am.”

Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage? covers the Tony winner's career from Rent to Wicked to Frozen and beyond

Idina Menzel was never one to let go of her ambitions.

"My entire identity is wrapped up in being a singer," she says in the first trailer for the new Disney+ documentary Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage? shared exclusively with PEOPLE.

The film follows Menzel, 51, on the road leading up to a concert at New York City's Madison Square Garden as part of a tour that tells "the story of my life and how I got here."

Menzel, who shares 13-year-old son Walker with ex-husband Taye Diggs, also opens up about motherhood, as well as marriage with Aaron Lohr.

Directed by Anne McCabe, the documentary, of course, also tracks the Tony winner's trajectory from Broadway's Rent and Wicked to voicing Frozen 's Elsa.

"We made this documentary to show firsthand how important it is to pursue your passions and lean on those around you in times of hardship," Menzel says in a statement. "This documentary was a joy to make, and I hope it resonates with my fans and new audiences alike who find themselves balancing motherhood, work and marriage while chasing their own dreams and inspires others to keep pushing forward."

At the D23 Expo in September, Menzel, who also stars in the upcoming Enchanted sequel Disenchanted , was among those honored with a Disney Legends Award.

The bickering duo of Marvel are at it again: The trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine dropped today, and finds Ryan Reynolds ‘ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman ’s Wolverine doing what they do best.

“Hi peanut,” Deadpool says to a drowning-his-sorrows Wolverine. “I’m going to need you to come with me right now.” The trailer contains enough quips, fights, insults and R-rated verbiage to satisfy a universe, Marvel or otherwise.

The new movie following – by six years – Deadpool 2.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters on July 26. Shawn Levy is the film director, with Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, Reynolds, and Levy credited as co-writers.

Hugh Jackman reprises his role of Wolverine in the Marvel film.
