  • Everyone will love this show! And native Muscovites, and city guests, and tourists (5 languages are available), both loners and companies. Invisible Moscow is an ideal combination of performance, excursion and promenade.

Unbeknownst to her, we tourists follow her as she looks to fill her time in Moscow. As she chats to herself, the headphones relay Sasha's stream of consciousness – available in Russian, English, German and French – directly into the visitors' ears.

Just put on your headphones and follow the heroine. Her voice will guide you through the most well-designed stage set — the streets of Moscow. Feel free to observe, eavesdrop, and play with the surroundings (we won't tell anyone, promise)!

Frequently Asked Questions

We create exhibitions covering a wide range of topics to appeal to multiple audiences. Here are answers to some commonly asked questions.

Installation Requirements

Installation requirements vary considerably depending on the size and complexity of the exhibition. For smaller photography exhibitions, installation may take only a few days with minimal staff. For larger exhibitions with exhibition furniture, audio, visual elements, and artifacts, it may take two weeks. The traveling exhibitions manager will work closely with you and your staff to develop a detailed installation and de-installation plan tailored to your needs and exhibition characteristics.

Shipping arrangements are made by National Geographic in consultation with the venue and may be included in the exhibition loan fee. If shipping is not included in the loan fee, the exhibitor will pay for the cost of inbound shipping. A list of crates with their sizes and contents are provided to the venue to assist in installation planning. For larger exhibitions where multiple tractor trailers are used, a detailed truck pack plan is provided to the venue in advance to assist in installation preparations and staging plans. The traveling exhibitions manager will identify any manpower and special equipment needs for unloading and loading at the exhibitor’s location.

Cost and Schedule

A typical hosting period is 3-4 months. The loan fee ranges with the size and complexity of the exhibition selected. Please connect with us via the hosting request form on any exhibition page or email us at exhibitions[at]ngs.org to discuss specific loan fees and timing as there may be some flexibility.

International Venues

National Geographic has placed exhibitions in more than 50 countries worldwide, which has been viewed by millions of visitors. Content for the exhibitions are provided via digital delivery; thereby eliminating costly customs and shipping fees. Please connect with us via the hosting request form on any exhibition page or email us at exhibitions[at]ngs.org and the manager for international traveling exhibitions will be in touch with more information regarding available shows.

Marketing and Promotion

Once a contract is executed, National Geographic provides access to exhibition marketing assets and can provide guidance on usage and strategy. All materials produced by the host venue must be approved by National Geographic before being released for public consumption. Additionally, the credit line must be present in all marketing materials in a prominent location. The credit line shall read:

[EXHIBITION NAME]   is developed and traveled by the National Geographic Society.

Incredible immersive experiences to do in NYC right now

From art exhibits to theatrical events, these experiences promise to transport you to new realities.

Rossilynne Skena Culgan

As much as New Yorkers love their city, they want to be transported to another space and time — at least that's the trend museums, companies and artists are capitalizing on. Immersive exhibits, events and experiences are popping up all over NYC these days.

From theatrical experiences to trippy digital art taking over massive spaces, there's no shortage of ways to be immersed in a different reality. With so many ways to be immersed, we decided it was high time to round up all the cool, immersive events, exhibits and experiences happening in NYC now and coming up soon so you won't miss the chance to experience something new and potentially mind-blowing.

Incredible immersive experiences in NYC

"BLOOM: The Secret Wonders of New York’s Forgotten Eden" at HERO

1.  "BLOOM: The Secret Wonders of New York’s Forgotten Eden" at HERO

It’s hard to imagine anything else at the site of the iconic Rockefeller Center. But 200 years ago, long before the famed skyscraper was built, this land was home to a lush greenspace called Elgin Gardens—it was America’s first botanical garden.

A new immersive art experience will now explore that beautiful history in Rockefeller Center. HERO, which opened inside Rockefeller Center late last year near the ice rink, will debut “ BLOOM: The Secret Wonders of New York’s Forgotten Eden ” on May 15; it runs through the summer.

At the all-ages exhibit, expect to walk through eight interactive experiences that promise to engage your senses with a captivating soundscape, changing scentscapes, interactive digital components, and light and video installations.

"Aṣẹ: Afro Frequencies" at ARTECHOUSE

2.  "Aṣẹ: Afro Frequencies" at ARTECHOUSE

Digital art and poetry have combined for a dive into Afrocentricity and Afrofuturism at this new immersive exhibit in Chelsea. " Aṣẹ: Afro Frequencies " is now open at ARTECHOUSE and runs all summer.

The digital art exhibition promises a "vibrant reflection upon the past, present, and future of the Black experience." It's told through the perspective of London-based Afro-surrealist digital artist Vince Fraser alongside evocative poetry by ursula rucker.

Both artists worked to honor the legacy, struggles, and complexities of the Black experience in their work. Even the exhibition's title, "Aṣẹ" stems from a powerful mantra, affirmation, and philosophical belief held by the Yoruba people of West Africa, meaning "so will it be." (By the way, that's pronounced as AH-shay.)

Harry Potter: The Exhibition

3.  Harry Potter: The Exhibition

  • Things to do

Muggles, take note: You won’t need to travel through Platform 9¾ to get to Hogwarts. The  Wizarding World of Harry Potter   is right here in New York City for a limited time.

The touring show, “Harry Potter: The Exhibition,” is now open in Herald Square, and it’s going transport you. Through the use of dramatic lighting, set design, interactive technology and even scent, the exhibit will make you feel like you are actually there—in Hagrid’s hut, in potions class, dining in the Great Hall, learning how to fight the dark arts, fighting the Battle of Hogwarts and more.

Tickets  are on sale now through August 11, 2024 and start at $29 for adults.

The FRIENDS Experience: The One in New York City

4.  The FRIENDS Experience: The One in New York City

Live like Monica, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Joey and Phoebe at  The FRIENDS Experience: The One in New York City . It's basically an immersive museum celebrating the '90s sitcom. You'll get to walk through rooms that look exactly like the ones on the TV show.

Photo opportunities abound. There’s a chance to pose with the “Pivot” couch, a backdrop that looks like the Vegas chapel, and a photo opp with Phoebe’s grandma’s taxi. You can even pose on top of Pat the Dog, snap a photo with the giant poking device and take a selfie in Monica’s apartment. Using high-quality cameras, staff take photos at each spot, which you can purchase at the end. But staff will also take free photos with your cell phone if you ask.

It's not just a selfie museum, though. There's a fascinating display featuring the show's costume designer Debra McGuire where you'll learn about her sartorial choices for each character. Another exhibit spotlights artist Burton Morris, whose Pop art pieces decorate Central Perk. Other display cases feature set designs, signed scripts, props and costumes.

The House of Cannabis, NYC’s weed museum

5.  The House of Cannabis, NYC’s weed museum

  • Weird & Wonderful

Many museums start with some kind of orientation, like a map or remarks from a docent. But not The House of Cannabis (a.k.a. THC NYC), the new weed museum in Soho. Instead, this museum starts, quite fittingly, with a trippy “Disorientation Room.”

While this museum boasts plenty of mind-bending multi-sensory bells and whistles, it also showcases art, highlights science and confronts the social justice issues baked into cannabis prosecution. The museum, the first of its kind at this scale, packs every inch of its four-story, 25,000-square-foot space at 427 Broadway with fascinating facts and delightful immersive experiences fit to entertain both tokers and non-smokers alike. Tickets ($45/adult)  are on sale now .

INTER_

6.  INTER_

The energy in   INTER_  feels more like a meditation retreat than a typical gallery—and that’s by design.

The experiential, multi-sensory museum in Soho invites visitors into a heightened state of contemplative awareness through a sound bath, light installations and aspects of meditation all combined with interactive digital art.

Here's a sneak peek inside the museum  — and if you want to  check it out yourself ,  Time Out readers get a discount on tickets with code   TIMEOUT15.

Sleep No More

7.  Sleep No More

  • Theater & Performance

The McKittrick Hotel is home to the world-famous production of  Sleep No More , a “site-specific, immersive experience” that blurs the line between audience and actor, stage and seating. It   began previews in March 2011 and has been continuously extended over the past decade.

But  the lights are fading out as  Sleep No More  concludes its nearly 13-year run on June  16, 2024 (an extended run).  The pioneering performance has hosted over two million guests and has a sister run still ongoing in Shanghai, China.

Go see the show before it closes;   here's our guide   to making the most of the experience.

Summit One Vanderbilt

8.  Summit One Vanderbilt

  • Sightseeing
  • Midtown East

Get ready for heart-pounding experience in the sky unlike any other experience atop a skyscraper.  Summit One Vanderbilt sits atop the new 67-floor One Vanderbilt super-tall—a 1,401-foot-high—skyscraper.

As the city's fourth-tallest building after One World Trade Center, Central Park Tower and 111 West 57th Street, it sits just west of Grand Central Terminal, where you first enter the experience underground. After a trip through a mirrored hallway with its own immersive elements, visitors take an elevator up to the 91st floor, where they're 1,000 feet over the streets and sidewalks of NYC.

Kenzo Digital has created a totally mirrored infinity room called "Air" that reflects the sky and city views over and over, making you feel like you're walking in the sky or on another plane of existence. Looking above you and below you in this two-story space, you see your reflection repeating forever.

One of the coolest parts of the experience is that it changes with the weather and time of day. When the weather is nice, it'll look like you're walking among the clouds. When it's stormy, you'll see the rain fly sideways and around the building.

Sloomoo, a slime museum

9.  Sloomoo, a slime museum

Part visual splendor, part olfactory wonder and part ooey-gooey sensory fun,   Sloomoo Institute’s slime museum  offers a captivating playground for all ages.

While Sloomoo is a highly Instagrammable experience, the founders hope you’ll spend some time away from your phone and immersed in the moment during your 90-minute visit to truly have the slime of your life. You can squish vats of slime, make your own slime to take home and even stand under a slime waterfall—that's truly immersive.

Coming soon: An immersive ‘Mean Girls’ experience

10.  Coming soon: An immersive ‘Mean Girls’ experience

  • Restaurants

Turns out, we're still trying to make fetch happen.

Coinciding with the release of the new   Mean Girls   movie, a new immersive experience based on the iconic film is scheduled to debut for a limited time in NYC this spring. The exact opening date is still TBD, so stay tuned.

The experience will involve a fast-casual restaurant serving cafeteria-style fare created by  Master Chef  semi-finalist Chef Becky Brown. Menu items include a “Stab Caesar” salad, the hilariously-named “burn book” burger sliders and a 1 3 5 Acai Bowl.

Passes aren't available yet, but we suggest you add yourself to the waitlist right   here   ASAP.

Exceeded expectations and the immersive experience was so relaxing and enchanting.

Elizabeth H.

Stunning exhibition of one of my favourite artists that reduces me to tears in under two minutes, just so moving and so sad the dichotomy of so much colour produced by such a tortured soul. I must for ALL to experience when in London!!

Absolutely amazing I’ve never been to anything like it. I came away awestruck ❤️

The recent proliferation of immersive art exhibitions has brought the works of Van Gogh and Monet to life in digital displays across the United States. If you haven't seen them in person, you've likely come across them on TikTok, Instagram or even Netflix's Emily in Paris . Now Italian film producer Massimiliano Siccardi (the man behind the crowd-pleasing Immersive Van Gogh shows) is set to give Frida Kahlo's work the digital treatment with a touring exhibition in 2022.

Digital displays of Frida Kahlo's work are projected onto the walls of an exhibition space

The multi-sensory experience takes visitors on a trip through the Mexican artist's work, engulfing them in digital displays of signature pieces including The Two Fridas , The Wounded Deer and Diego and I. Visitors walk through darkened exhibition spaces listening to a soundtrack from Italian composer Luca Longobardi, while illuminated images of Kahlo's art dance across the walls.

The immersive art exhibition trend, geared towards accessibility, entertainment and Instagram-friendly snaps, is universal. Similar shows have attracted sold-out audiences in Europe, Asia and Australia, and continue to draw crowds in the US and Canada, with separate companies often competing with each other to attract customers keen on experiential art. In 2021, there were multiple immersive Van Gogh exhibitions touring the US, all with similar names, similar displays and similar price-points, which naturally caused confusion among ticket-holders .

For now, there's just this immersive Frida Kahlo exhibition (called  Frida: Immersive Dream ) touring the US in 2022, and a separate one scheduled in Washington, D.C. called Mexican Geniuses —which focuses at the work of both Kahlo and her artist husband Diego Rivera.

The Frida: Immersive Dream  experience will kick off in February and tour Boston, Chicago, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles and Dallas, with another stop in Toronto, Canada . The exact locations have yet to be announced but tickets are already available, starting from $39.99 per person. For more information, see Frida: Immersive Dream.

Airbnb introduces "Icons" experience to guests

BREAKING: 'Lone wolf' who did not belong to any political groups is charged in the attempted assassination of Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico

A Willy Wonka-inspired experience ‘scam’ was so bad that people called the cops

People who attended a Willy Wonka-inspired “Chocolate Experience” in Glasgow, Scotland, were promised “extraordinary props, oversized lollipops, and a paradise of sweet treats” — all promoted with dreamlike, candy-colored images on its website .

When ticketholders arrived at the event over the weekend, they instead found a sparsely decorated warehouse with nothing resembling the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” franchise the event invoked in its advertising.

“It was just ridiculous. I mean, just very amateurish. Absolutely nothing like what was described,” said Alana Lockens, who paid £35 per ticket, or $44.40 , to take her two young kids to the experience. “For the sake of my children, we were trying to be happy and smiley so that they wouldn’t pick up on the disappointment and just tried to make the best of a bad situation.”

House of Illuminati's "Willy's Chocolate Experience" event

Outraged attendees immediately began posting their experiences online, calling the event underwhelming and a “scam.” Some people quickly likened the event to the infamous Fyre Festival , a chaotic and pricey island concert that was falsely advertised as a “once-in-a-lifetime musical experience.”

By Saturday afternoon, the experience had been canceled and local police confirmed to NBC News that they were called to the scene after attendees who felt conned began demanding refunds. And further examination, along with interviews of people hired to work the event, hints that artificial intelligence-generated media may have played a key role in creating its veneer.

The event website touted interactive exhibits, and images shared on the site couldn’t be found elsewhere on the internet through reverse image searches. Some bore known hallmarks of AI creation, most notably strange and nonsensical lettering.

Two actors hired for the event who spoke to NBC News said they were promised £500 to perform in themed costumes that weekend. They each said the script they were given appeared AI-generated because of its “gibberish” wording. And when they showed up for rehearsal Friday night, more alarm bells went off.

Michael Archibald said he heard back the same day he applied to the acting gig, which was listed on the jobs site Indeed. When he showed up to rehearse the day before the event, the warehouse still looked barebones beyond a few props, and he said costumes weren’t delivered until rehearsal was nearly over.

Things didn’t look much better when he arrived the next morning.

“I thought, this is where dreams go to die,” he said of his reaction upon walking into the warehouse Saturday. “I already could feel the embarrassment. … I knew the script was AI-generated, as well. I was like, this isn’t normal human writing.”

House of Illuminati's "Willy's Chocolate Experience" event

The event was hosted by the London-based event company House of Illuminati, which was incorporated just three months ago, according to the U.K. government agency Companies House. It describes itself as “a realm where fantasy and reality converge to create unparalleled immersive experiences.” The company didn’t respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

In the hours after the event’s abrupt cancellation, House of Illuminati posted a now-deleted statement on its Facebook page promising to return attendees’ money.

“Today has been a very stressful and frustrating day for many and for that we are truly sorry. Unfortunately last minute we were let down in many areas of our event and tried our best to continue on and push through and now realise we probably should havd cancelled first thing this morning instead,” the post said. “we fully apologise for what has happened and will be giving full refunds to each and every person that purchased tickets.”

It isn’t entirely clear whether the company used AI to generate its promotional images and character scripts, and the company hasn’t addressed the topic.

Ever since the ongoing explosion in generative AI technology made it easy for internet users to instantaneously create web copy and images from text prompts, many sellers and services have begun using AI-generated content in their marketing . Deepfakes of celebrities and influencers advertising certain products have also circulated in recent months, tricking some potential buyers.

Paul Connell, another actor hired for the event, said some scenes in the script were “absolute nonsense” and impossible to replicate without special effects. The actors said event organizers soon told them to scrap the scripts and just improvise as the characters they were supposed to play.

At one point, Connell said, the actors began to suspect that the event was a sham and that they were unlikely to receive payment for their work. But after they discussed the situation among themselves, he said, they decided to stay and try to entertain the children as best as they could.

Paul Connell in his Willy Wonka costume

“I just thought of it as I just want the kids to have a good time. So I’m going to be silly and take photographs with them and play little games with them,” Connell said. “There was a little girl dressed as an Oompa Loompa that was just really upset, because she’d expected Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and got a dirty warehouse in Glasgow.”

Connell said the situation began to deteriorate soon after the event began. He said he took a lunch break as his “sanity was starting to go” — and returned to see chaos unfolding.

“There was just a mob of people outside and inside. It was carnage,” Connell said. “I joked when I walked back in, ‘I’ve been at lunch an hour, what’s happened?’ And there was people just running everywhere, shouting, threatening the organizers.”

By then, the Police Service of Scotland had been called to the scene. A spokesperson said in an email that it wasn’t a police matter but that officers offered advice to frustrated attendees.

Lockens said she has received an email confirming her refund but hasn’t yet received the money in her account, which House of Illuminati’s post said can take up to 10 working days.

The company’s director, Billy Coull, appears to have wiped most of his online presence since he drew backlash for the event. Coull didn’t respond to requests for comment through his Instagram page.

Disgruntled attendees have also created a Facebook group called “ house of Illuminati scam ” to share their experiences at Willy’s Chocolate Experience and organize efforts to secure refunds.

Box Hub, the event venue that rented out its space to House of Illuminati, said in an email that it has been in contact with several parents about offering its venue as a space to host another event for the families who were dismayed by last weekend’s.

“We would love to offer our venue completely free of charge as a gesture of apology on behalf of House of Illuminati, who either have no regards for the families and young children they have disappointed or are too embarrassed to comment,” operations manager Matt Waterfield wrote.

He reiterated that Box Hub had no involvement with House of Illuminati’s event beyond renting out the Glasgow venue and said the company was “shocked to see the way this event had unravelled after being led to believe this event would be a ‘fully immersive showcase.’”

For Lockens, purchasing five tickets for her family made a sizable dent in her wallet. But she said she thought the experience would be worth it for her children, who are major fans of all things Willy Wonka. (The event’s website said it had no official affiliation with Warner Bros., which owns the rights to the Willy Wonka character.)

“It’s just not what I expected at all, and it certainly was not worth £35 per ticket,” she said. “In the midst of a cost-of-living crisis in the U.K., that’s money that most families won’t be able to afford to part with for something that was just so terrible.”

Great travel assistant.

I love exploring new landmarks when I am traveling to other countries and cities. I typically do my own research using Google and Reddit but this app saves a lot of time by providing guided experience. I can now just pull up the map and quickly pick a place nearby that I will go to. Unlike other apps and services, this app will tell you a very engaging and inspirational story about the place you’re visiting.
Very responsive and super useful for anyone that’s interested in info and history of most places with the ease of not having to read and being able lo listen! I’m so excited to use it for traveling. I hope they add more voice options. Great job!
