Hotel Review: Intercontinental Miami (Pre-Cruise)

One of the iconic hotels in Downtown Miami is the Intercontinental. The triangle-shaped hotel is located on Biscayne Bay. Some rooms have views of the cruise port, where you can watch the ships come and go. The hotel was charging 49,000 points per night, which works out to $250. I also get 10% back as a benefit of the IHG Select card .

Check-in/lobby.

Entering the hotel, there’s no missing Henry Moore’s 18-foot, 70-ton Spindle sculpture, made of travertine marble. The hotel was built around the art installation.

The check-in desk is to the left of the hotel’s entry.

This was our first Intercontinental stay in a long time, and this hotel impressed us. The room was large and comfortable, and it had a classy Miami vibe.

The nightstands had updated connections with two USB-A, one USB-C and a power outlet.

The entrance hallway had a regular setup of a coffee maker, fridge and free bottled water.

The bathroom looked stunning. We had both a walk-in shower and a tub. The shower passed the leak test with no water pooling outside. The amenities were from Byredo, which is the preferred brand of Intercontinental hotels.

Restaurants

The hotel’s breakfast restaurant is Olé. It’s open daily for breakfast and also offers Sunday Brunch. We skipped breakfast, opting for a coffee from the Starbucks onsite and then going to Bayside .

Also located in the lobby area is the main restaurant, Toro Toro.

Final Thought

One negative aspect of Intercontinental Miami is the $33 service fee, which includes a $13 credit for Toro Toro and a $20 credit for MySpa. While checking out, I noticed we weren’t charged the fee for either our or our friends’ room. This is not the rule, as IHG doesn’t waive resort fees on award stays.

I really liked our stay at the Intercontinental. The hotel’s stunning visual appeal is truly breathtaking. Our room was spacious and featured a large, comfortable bed that allowed us to have a restful night’s sleep. The bathroom was one of the standout features of our stay, with high-quality toiletries that added a touch of indulgence. The price was a good value considering that I could use my IHG points which saved a considerable amount.

Overall, I highly recommend the Intercontinental and will gladly return if we need a place to stay before a cruise.

It’s a great pre-cruise hotel for Miami. We always enjoy it. The service fees there continue to climb though which is too bad.

I think I must be the cheapest person going. I’d never pay ~ $250 for a pre-cruise hotel. I’d stay at a crappy airport hotel rather than burn 49k.

Asked through booking.com for the double up grade for bay view room but got city view room it was confirmed by them that you did not inform them but I had it on email confirming it they only look after American citizens and other people don’t count I have had this before in the USA look after the home focks first screw the rest

Excellent location, walking distance to Bayside Marketplace. We had a beautiful room overlooking the bay and cruise terminal. Rooms were beautifully appointed.

In addition to the above, the lobby was impressive. I enjoyed my meal and drink in the restaurant. Our stay was overnight as it was close to the cruise port as we were sailing the next day. I liked that parking was also available. The hotel we stayed at in South Beach after the cruise misrepresented themselves on when booking and stated that parking was available onsite, which is was not and we had to park at a nearby hotel. The amenities are helpful for people to make decisions about where they want to stay. So appreciated that everything that was advertised online about Inter Continental was what we received. There was an issue with our room which I will speak to below, but the Front Desk handled it very quickly and professionally which was appreciated. Would definitely stay again!

We've been here before. A really great hotel by the sea, next to the park and evening events. You can park your car in the hotel's garage, and although it's not free, it's really safe and easy. We have always taken the sea view and it is worth the small extra price. Great views. The room is clean, silent and flawless. Silent air conditioning. Coffee machine is must and was included. Two large beds and a lot of pillows (six per bed). The lobby and common areas had improved since the last visit and were - shall we say - brilliant. Service was professional at all levels. Breakfast you should include in the room price. It was absolutely fantastic in its offering.

Breakfast was OK, but could have more variety on a daily basis.

Modern up to date room. Room was clean. Customer service was excellent.

The InterContinental Miami, an IHG Hotel is a very popular 5 star pre-cruise hotel located in Downtown Miami, less than 2 miles from the port. This excellent property features also an incredible view , first-class customer service, located near the best shopping areas in Downtown.

From the accommodation, you will get excellent views of Biscayne Bay where cruise ships depart and arrive from the port. Unfortunately the hotel does not offer a shuttle service. The best way to get to The Port of Miami, only 10 minutes away, is taking a Cab (fare is approx. $16.00, depending on which terminal) or Uber.

3. Courtyard Miami Downtown Brickell Area ★★★

Discover the style and life of Miami while you enjoy your stay at the Courtyard Miami Downtown Brickell hotel which places you few steps from James L. Knight Center. They do not offer any transportation from the airport but you can easily take a taxi, uber or lyft to the hotel.

Additional guest is $20 and additional parking is $12.00/day. Shared ride to Port of Miami leaves the hotel at 11:00 am (please ask hotel lobby for latest information). The hotel is beautiful but the staff we dealt with at front desk was not friendly at all. Front desk clerk turned her nose up at us as she stated to us "oh you booked through Hotwire" ...like that's a bad thing..I.mean this place is not the Ritz? And even there we have always been treated great. I have booked through hotwire several times and have never experienced a hotel clerk react as if we were 2nd class guests...it actually made my husband and I laugh because we have plenty of money to spend and it was a big mistake for her to assume otherwise. She should have been trained that happy guests tip well. The bar staff was great... you can say that they made up for the bad first impression we got from the hotel. The hotel is clean and beautiful. The location is also very convenient.

Stayed here for 2 nights, November 4-5th and couldn't fault it one big. Stayed at this hotel for 4days and must say that the staff are very professional and always ready to assist you!Starting form the check in from a lovely lady (lebanese origin) sorry dont remember names , club lounge team and also the concierge which made sure that all was to our satisfaction.As it was a special occasion amenities were also sent to the room - fantastic choclate cake with champagne! The hotel rooms are spacious and clean with a great view of the bay and also the hotel common areas are kept clean.Dined in Toro toro which offers great food but abit on the expensive side.Overall it was a wonderful experience and would definately recommend..
