Jabra Tour Review
Jabra is one of the biggest and most trusted names in bluetooth devices, and the jabra tour has been around for years. i've reviewed bluetooth car kits since 2014 and the tour had already been one of the best bluetooth car kits for several years..
Early Verdict
The Jabra Tour is one of the few remaining classic visor-style Bluetooth speakerphones, but it's not great for bridging the technology gap between the stereo and your phone.
The pairing process is quick and easy.
It's expensive.

Jabra is one of the biggest and most trusted names in Bluetooth devices, and the Jabra Tour has been around for years. I've reviewed Bluetooth car kits since 2014 and the Tour had already been one of the best Bluetooth car kits for several years. The fact it's outlasted so many other Bluetooth speakerphones is a testament to its quality. However, multiple studies argue hands-free calling is not safe (and it's defined as distracted driving by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the emphasis of my reviews has shifted from call quality to audio performance. And unfortunately, classic visor-style Bluetooth car kits aren't optimized for streaming music, though you certainly can.
The primary focus of my tests was audio performance – for drivers wanting to stream music from apps like Pandora or Spotify, how well does the Bluetooth adapter bridge this gap between the phone and the stereo? Visor-style kits like the Tour and the Jabra Freeway rely on built-in speakers. These are more in-car speakerphones than Bluetooth adapters, though the Freeway does have an FM transmitter. As such, I still tested these devices in comparison to the AUX-in and FM transmitters, but not without recognizing the difference in the technology.
For signal clarity, the Jabra Tour is okay for streaming music, receiving a C grade. The small speaker struggles to keep the performance balanced when the volume is turned all the way up. In fact, it clips a lot at full volume. Turning it down three levels was enough to provide a clear signal, but since it's not relying on the stereo to amplify the music, the music is not very loud and doesn't make for a great streaming device while driving. That said, the signal clarity is much better than the FM transmitters.
Without the use of the stereo to amplify the signal, the speaker can't achieve ear splitting levels. At maximum volume, it averaged 81-dB. By comparison, the AUX-in Bluetooth adapters and FM transmitters were reaching volumes between 96- and 103-dB.
I also tested the call quality of each Bluetooth car kit. This is what the Jabra Tour is made for. By placing the speaker and microphone on the sun visor, the drive can better hear the caller and vice versa. There's less chance for echo feedback and the noise cancellation is miles ahead of the AUX-in and FM transmitters I tested. This is a device made for hands-free calling and it succeeds here. However, hands-free calling has since been shown to be no safer than hands-full calling. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines it as distracted driving. So, I can't recommend this product based on call quality alone. If you're going to take a call while behind the wheel, it's best (for you and others on the road) to park first.

For functionality, the Tour is easy to use and comes with a voice guidance system to walk you through the pairing process and controls. I paired this to my phone and music player within 20 seconds of turning it on. By contrast, many of the products I tested took over five minutes just to recognize the Bluetooth device. The controls are simple and easy to identify. There aren't any multifunction buttons.
The Jabra Tour has a simple yet intuitive design with one microphone and one speaker. It's not a great device for streaming music and doesn't integrate with your stereo, so the high price is hard to justify for these purposes. It's ideal for hands-free calling, but call quality is no longer a prioritized feature because it's not safer than hands-full calling.

What is the Jabra Tour?
The Jabra Tour is the answer to several problems. It’s a Bluetooth 3.0 hands-free speakerphone that clips onto your car’s sun visor. It lets you make and receive calls, can act as a speaker for clearer GPS instructions and supports most phone’s voice control systems. It also supports two simultaneous Bluetooth connections, so you can pair more than one phone. That’s a lot of boxes ticked for £85.
Jabra Tour: Design & Setup
There’s nothing remarkable about the Jabra Tour’s design, but everything is as it needs to be. Volume controls flank each side of the bottom edge, there’s a call button at the top and a button on the silver ring in the middle activates your phone’s voice controls. It clips securely onto your sun visor, and there’s even a mic mute button on one side. It’s all very neat and tidy.
It’s incredibly easy to setup, too. Unlike many Bluetooth devices that rely on a variety of unintelligible flashing lights and noises to tell you things, the Jabra Tour has voice guidance. It confirms if you’re paired or not by announcing “Connected” or “Not Connected”; it tells you how much battery life in hours; it guides you through pairing with the device – it even tells you what code (0000) is if needed. It also announces the name of anyone calling, so you don’t have to have your phone in sight to decide if you want to take the call.
It takes all the stress and confusion out of using it, which is incredibly reassuring. You’re never left wondering whether it’s actually made a connection or not. SEE ALSO: iPhone 6 release date, news, rumours and price
Jabra Tour: Performance
The Jabra Tour makes a great first impression and builds on its great design when you begin using it.
Making and taking calls is straightforward – you can make calls using your phone’s voice recognition, and you can accept and reject calls with voice commands so you never have to take your hands off the wheel.
Call quality is excellent. The built-in 3-watt speaker is loud, clear and precise. There are two microphones inside the Jabra Tour that, combined with digital processing, ensure very good call quality at both ends. We’ve been using the Jabra Tour for weeks without any complaints from recipients no matter how noisy the cabin.
Indeed, the only time the mics really struggle is when trying to use a phone’s voice system (Siri on an iPhone 4S in this case) when travelling on the motorway. Here the higher road noise made more complicated actions, such as sending messages, too unreliable. It was still accurate enough to make calls, however, and at lower speeds we managed to perform most functions (and send text messages) with little trouble.
The final impressive point is the battery life. Jabra quotes up to 20 hours of talk time and 40 days (yes days) of standby time. It’s enough that you won’t need to charge it often, in fact we’ve yet to do so since we started using it. Moreover, while there is a physical power switch, the Jabra Tour automatically powers down when not in use and has a motion detector so it powers up again when you’re moving.
All told, the only criticism we can think of is that you can’t control music playback using the Jabra Tour (it doesn’t support the AVRCP standard), but that’s hardly a feature it needs. You could play music on it, but that’s not what it’s for. It handles calls admirably and is also a great addition if you rely on your phone for sat nav instructions.

Should I buy the Jabra Tour?
There are quite a few similar products on the market and the Jabra Tour is one of the more expensive, but it’s worth every penny.
It performs faultlessly, but the real kicker is how easy it is to use. It just gets out of the way so you don’t ever have to think about you’re doing. Provided you have a phone that has its own voice recognition system, which includes most iPhones and Android smartphones, it’s a great addition to your in-car setup.
An outstanding hands-free speakerphone that’s very, very hard to fault.

Jabra TOUR – Bluetooth in-car Speakerphone Tested
Posted by Digital Reviews Network | Aug 11, 2017 | Audio / Visual | 0
I have a 2010 Ford Territory which has Bluetooth 1.0 which allows me to make calls but not play music through Bluetooth but I much prefer to use the Jabra TOUR which will do both.
Here is a quick review.
The TOUR is an elegant and small speakerphone that you clip onto your visor. It’s about half the size of its bigger brother, the Freeway which we reviewed earlier. It’s got all the basic functions for hands-free calling including a mute button which you probably will seldom use, volume buttons plus a physical button for answering, ending or re-dialling and a button for voice commands.
This last one will allow you to use Siri or android voice commands but there is also a set of built-in voice commands through which you can ask things like battery life and it will also take it through the pairing process. Pairing is very simple and up to 2 phones can be connected at the same time. The 3 Watt speaker is ample power for clearly hearing the calling party but for playing music with any fidelity it is not as good as the bigger Freeway which has multiple speakers and which can also route your music via an FM transmitter to the speaker system of your car. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and for that purpose the sound quality is perfectly fine.
Hallmark of all these Jabra in-car speakerphones is that they will switch on or off automatically when you enter your vehicle through a built-in motion sensor. That can be quite handy as long as you don’t hang around your car after you have exited the vehicle. The reason is that if you’re still within Bluetooth range when a call comes in you may not hear it because it is still connected to the speakerphone! It has happened to me quite a few times and I now have the habit of switching it on and off manually.
All in all the Jabra TOUR is a well-built, well-featured and a well-priced piece of kit at 130 bucks. In the retail packaging you will also find a car charger and USB cable and when charged you will have up to 20 hours of talk time or, with little use, you may be able to stretch the standby time to 2 months.
If you want to spend an extra 40 bucks you can spring for the Freeway which has more features and better sound quality. That unit is more than five years old now and I’m keen to see what Jabra is coming up with next for their top-of-the-line unit.
We will be one of the first sites to review it.
