The tour will kick off in Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center on March 11, before heading to Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Detroit, Nashville, Cleveland, Atlanta, St. Louis and Chicago. April will then see Mayer play shows in St. Paul, Denver, Phoenix, Palm Desert, Sacramento, Vancouver and Seattle, before wrapping up with a concert at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum on April 14.
Lizzy McAlpine will be on support duties for the first third of the tour, while Alec Benjamin will open at the last six shows. Sandwiched between those dates will be another special guest who is yet to be announced. Tickets will go on sale next Friday (February 3).
“Solo Tour 2023. Just like the early days,” Mayer wrote on social media when announcing the shows. “I’ll be playing old songs. Newer songs. Songs you haven’t heard yet that I’ll be road testing – all on acoustic, electric, and piano. Hope to see you there.”

In May, Mayer will also embark on his final tour with Dead & Company , with the supergroup – consisting of Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann alongside Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti – set to disband this year.
Mayer’s most recent album, the ’80s-inspired ‘Sob Rock’, arrived in 2021. In a four-star review , NME called it a “passion project that toasts to the good old days, when musicians were more inclined to follow instincts and feelings than clicks and likes”.

It was his birthday and his band played Happy Birthday To You for him after the first song, Belief!
After the intermission, he covered Tougher Than The Rest by Bruce Springsteen, saying that it was one of his favourite songs of all time.
It was a good setlist: he played some songs that he doesn't usually play, like Waitin' On The Day, Born And Raised or In Your Atmosphere.
Before playing Changing, he said that to finish the song he thought about Irish people in a pub singing it together, and that every time he sings it he thinks about Ireland.
He and all the band were really great.

WHAT A MAGICAL EVENING OF PURE MUSIC & ART!
The Viejas Arena at the SDSU campus is simply a fabuous venue- and on a perfect cool night in San Diego, the sold out show was an artistic masterpiece- the setlists were spot on. The artsy colorful 3D Backdrop, that I believe Mayer himself was a key designer in its creation, blended beautifully with the video montages displayed above it.
Speaking of the video special effects- subtle, colorful, real-time gems, shadow effects in a stacatto pattern of the guitar neck, I've never seen anything like it in 40 years of concert outings. The crowd was captivated- a long 30 minute intermission appeared relatively early in the show.
I've been going to John Mayer shows since 2002 and though I am obviously a biased super-fan, I can honestly state that this production is-- far and away-- much more amazing than what I saw at the Forum just two years ago.
JM is continuously expanding horizons, getting more creative-- and has the crowd in stitches laughing when he chats up his latest insights & specific San Diego references... I just wish I had the whole show on video so I could watch it again and catch every little thing I missed!
My Husband and I were blown away at the complete show. John is a master of master's at playing the guitar. I still can't get over how amazing it was to watch him get into playing and what we heard. It made so much of a great difference seeing him in person play. His band is extremely talented with the gifts they brought to the stage too. This year we've seen 4 concerts so far and John Mayer was the best! I hope he continues to perform for many years because we'll see him every time if he comes to Phoenix or Tucson (where we live). John spoke to the crowd and made us laugh during the show. They even dropped confetti on the main floor during their encore - it was so cool!! No other band this year we saw live did as much for the crowd entertainment as John Mayer.

John Mayer Was Thinking ‘Maybe That’s It’ for His Solo Career — Then He Went on an Acoustic Tour

John Mayer wrapped the first leg of his solo acoustic tour Friday night at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif., and it surely won’t be the last fans will hear from him.
During multiple between-song moments on Friday night, Mayer talked about how much the solo trek — which kicked off last month in Newark, N.J., and will pick back up with new dates in September — has reinvigorated his creative drive. In fact, before the tour, he wondered whether his career as a solo artist might be behind him.
John Mayer Extends U.S. Solo Acoustic Tour: Here Are the New Dates
Trending on billboard.
“So I would say like six months ago, I wasn’t sure what my next move was,” he continued. “I wasn’t going to retire. I wasn’t going to disavow all this stuff. I just didn’t know. It was a lot of scratching my head like, ‘What’s the next thing?’ The point I’m trying to make is: This tour changed everything.”
He imagined the solo tour would be a self-indulgent one-off, during which he would play the songs he really wanted to play and not the ones that were his most commercially successful. Now, thanks to that fluid setlist, not only can he imagine what his next album will be, he can picture “the next three albums.”
Mayer’s monologue led into “Drifting,” a not-yet-recorded song about leaning into the unknown and letting an aimless adventure lead you in just the right direction. “Trying to write a story but I’m stuck on a page/ God, it’s been so long I can’t remember my age/ I’m lost till the minute that I step on the stage/ ‘Cause I’m drifting,” he sings on the rapid-fire bridge, referencing how he’s most comfortable performing.
Perusing Mayer’s Billboard chart history, he only played two of his seven top 20 Billboard Hot 100 hits on Friday night — 2009’s “Who Says” and 2002’s “Your Body Is a Wonderland” — instead filling the setlist with non-singles, superfan favorites and some choice covers (Beyoncé, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty). Basically, it was a free-flowing night that let Mayer change course on a dime (simultaneous shouted requests led to an impromptu performance of “3×5,” from his debut album Room for Squares ) and it was clear he was having just as much fun as the crowd was. Being alone also showed off just how impressive his musical talent is, between a duet by himself on piano and electric guitar and truly filling up the arena with sound thanks to his slapping acoustic-guitar skills.
It’s no wonder he’s extended the tour, adding 20 more dates starting Sept. 27 in Hollywood, Fla., as well as a European leg in 2024. This is just the tour both John and his fans needed right now.
Find the full setlist for Friday night at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif., below as well as a fan recording of “Drifting” from the first night in Newark, N.J.:

John Mayer won’t be spending much time at his Montana home in 2023.
Rather than relax, the seven-time Grammy winner just announced his 19-concert “Solo Tour” that will take him all over North America from March 11 through Nov. 10 .
And if you’re the Big Apple and dying to hear “Your Body Is A Wonderland” live, you’re in luck.
Mayer, 45, will hit New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Oct. 3 as well as UBS Arena in Elmont, NY on Oct. 21.
This won’t be your standard tour, either.
“I began my career on stage with only a guitar and a microphone. A lot has changed since then, but I knew one day I’d feel it in my heart to do an entire run of shows on my own again, just like those early days,” Mayer shared on Instagram .
“It took a couple of decades, but I feel it now. I’ll be playing old songs. Newer songs. Songs you haven’t heard yet that I’ll be road testing – all on acoustic, electric, and piano.”
Then, once the summer hits, Mayer will go big again and team up with Dead and Company for their final tour. Ever.
Of course, they’ll swing in the City That Never Sleeps too — on June 21 and June 22 , the classic rockers fronted by Mayer have huge stadium gigs scheduled at Flushing’s Citi Field .
Plus, you won’t want to forget Mayer’s festival gigs.
First, he’ll perform at Ocean City, MD’s Oceans Calling from Sept. 29-Oct. 1 with Jack Johnson, Alanis Morissette, Incubus, The Lumineers, Weezer and others.
To top it all off, Mayer will headline Bridgeport, CT’s Sound On Sound Music Festival that same weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) alongside huge stars like Alanis Morissette, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Trey Anastasio Band, Hozier, Nathaniel Rateliff and many more.
Most excitingly, tickets for all shows can be scooped up as early as today .
Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster for the newly added tour dates until Friday, March 31, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before seats are officially on sale.
Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.
John Mayer 2023 Solo Tour schedule
A complete calendar featuring all of John Mayer’s upcoming tour dates, venues and links to buy tickets can be found below.
Dead and Company 2023 tour schedule
As noted earlier, Mayer will sing with Dead and Company on their Farewell Tour and then that’s it for the legendary classic rock group.
Made up of original Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart as well as a few others, they handed the reins to Mayer in 2015 when they performed live together for the first time.
This summer, when they say goodbye, they’ll kick things off at New Orleans’ annual New Orleans Jazz Festival where they’ll headline alongside big names like Lizzo , Ed Sheeran , Santana , The Lumineers and Robert Plant with Alison Krauss.
When the proper tour begins, they’ll jam in cities like Los Angeles ( May 19 , May 20 ), Chicago ( June 9 , June 10 ), Philadelphia ( June 15 ), Saratoga Springs, NY ( June 17 , June 18 ) and Boston ( June 24 , June 25 ).
Their last shows will take place June 14 , June 15 and June 16 at San Francisco’s Oracle Park.
A complete calendar featuring all Dead and Company tour dates, venues, show start times and links to buy tickets can be found here .
John Mayer Solo Tour opening acts
Although Mayer’s tour is called “Solo,” he will bring at least one support act to each and every show.
While we don’t know who one of them is yet — they’re listed as “Special Guest TBA” — here’s what we can tell you about his confirmed special guests that will be appearing on select dates.
Lizzy McAlpine , 23, dropped out of the Berklee College of Music in her junior year. Thus far, t seems to have worked out for the folk-jazz-pop star. Her 2020 debut studio album “Give Me A Minute” drew raves from critics and led to a headlining tour of her own. Don’t know where to start? We recommend her wistful single “To The Mountains.”
Alec Benjamin is in the Spotify Billion Club. The Arizona native’s mega single “Let Me Down Slowly” has been streamed over 1.2 billion times at the time of publication. He’s no one-trick pony though. Benjamin, 28, has a whopping six additional singles with over 100 million streams. Try his 2018 debut album “Narrated For You” for a sample of his charming, poppy sound.
Huge concert tours in 2023
Mayer’s tour was announced the same day his ex Taylor Swift dropped the music video for “Lavender Haze.”
Coincidence? Revenge? Friendly competition?
What we do know is that many exciting tours are headed to venues all over North America over the next few months.
Here are just five can’t-miss tours that may be coming to a city near you soon.
• Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
• Taylor Swift
• Blink 182
• Paramore
• Ed Sheeran
You made it to the end. Congratulations!
As a bonus, here’s our list of 52 of the biggest concert tours in 2023 — you earned it.
