• We believe that all children can learn and should be prepared to earn a college degree. We believe that it takes caring, passionate, and competent adults to serve children and we are privileged to do so. We also believe that it takes an entire community to prepare children for their dreams.
• We understand that there is power in diversity and welcome it, thus our focus is International Studies. It is imperative that we prepare our children early for a global society.
• We offer foreign language and interdisciplinary units focused on multiple concepts and cultures around the world. Blended Learning is a system used to support students in small groups, individualized learning, and exposure to technology.
• Aspire Public Schools has been in existence for 17 years. We have 39 schools in California and Tennessee. In 2010, Aspire Public School was recognized by the Oprah Winfrey show as being one of the top charter schools in the nation.
• Our scholars are exposed to college by going on college tours in addition to bringing college to the community through college and career fairs. In Memphis, both of our Hanley Schools earned the highest growth score for academics the state of Tennessee can give, TVAAS Level Five.

Lastly, Aspire has a Regional Parent Council that is comprised of parents from all of Aspire's Memphis schools to advocate for children.

Saint Basil’s Cathedral

In Moscow you can travel through ages just walking through the streets. Diversified architectural styles wait for you at every turn. To see the beauty of ancient Russian architecture, visit the Kremlin or Kolomenskoe Museum. These places keep the unique Russian style, original and exceptional. The Moscow estates are good examples of the romantic flavor of the XVIII-XIX century’s architecture. The Home-museum of M. Gorky is situated in in a luxurious house built by F. Shechtel, well-known Russian architecture at beginning of the XX century. It is a fantastic example of Art-Nouveau style, one of the few saved places from that epoque, open to visitors. The Gorky Park, Sokolniki, Fili and also recently opened Zaryadye – are only a small part in the diversity of Moscow green areas.

5. CRADLE OF ORTHODOXY

790 Orthodox churches and chapels and 8 monasteries! Walking through the city center you will see a big amount of beautiful old churches. Practically all Moscow churches and monastic ensembles are functioning. These are unique monuments of Russian architecture. There are significant collections of old paintings and applied arts and the resting place of outstanding figures of Russian and world culture, military and political figures. Monasteries, built at the borders of the city were often called ‘the guards’. Powerful constructions had defensive purposes, and, in case of danger, the residents could take refuge inside the monastery walls. Some of the Moscow ‘guards’ have survived – Vysokopetrovsky, Rogdestvensky, Sretensky, Novospasskiy, Danilov, Novodevichy monasteries and others. Now the ancient fortress cherish the historical past.

Visitors to Russia are often surprised by the variety and flavors of Russian traditional food. A great many can be described as «divine», and it will have you searching for the recipes when you return home! Russian cuisine is famous for exotic soups, cabbage schi and solyanka, which is made of assorted meats, pancakes with different fillings, and of course, caviar. Russians are great lovers of pelmeni, small Siberian meat pies boiled in broth. Of our folk soft drinks, kvass is the best-known. Made of brown bread or malted rye flour, it goes down best on a sultry summer day. If you add it to chopped-up meat and vegetables, you get okroshka, an exquisite cold soup. There are a lot of restaurants, providing national food. From very budget «Elki-Palki», to numerous luxurious restaurants like «Café Pouchkine». There you can not only taste Russian delicacies, but also plunge into the atmosphere of the XIX century Russia.

Here are the places with splendid views over Moscow:

• «Federation Tower» is a set of two high-rise towers, located in the Moscow City Business District. The 61st floor of the Tower West accommodates the highest restaurant in Moscow – «Sixty».
• The main building of the Moscow State University was built in the years 1949-1953 and its total height is 182 meters, with a spire – 240 meters. On the top floor there is a Museum of Geography with a panoramic view of Moscow.
• The observation deck of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior can be reached only in the excursions. There you can get a really exciting view of the Moscow center.
• The building of the Russian Academy of Science is called «golden brains» due to the original constructions of its roof. It stands on the high riverbank and opens a charming view of the whole Moscow. «Sky Lounge» restaurant is situated on the 21st floor.

The main attractions and the most interesting places in the historic city center are within walking distance. Take a walk in Lavrushinsky Lane, Nikolskaya Street, Bolshaya Dmitrovka Street, Rozhdestvenka Street, Kuznetsky Bridge Street, Kamergersky Lane, Stoleshnikov Lane, Stariy Arbat, Maroseyka or Pyatnitskaya. If you don’t want to walk by foot take the city bus or river bus tour. You can choose a red open top double-decker bus that will take you around all of the key sites in Moscow. The total length of the tour is about 12 km downtown and has 18 stops around Moscow including the Kremlin, Red Square, St. Basil’s Cathedral, Bolshoi Theater, Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, The Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Old Arbat walking street and much more. To see the whole beauty of Moscow, have a boat trip at the Moskva River. At spring and summer season the variety of boat excursions are really big, you can travel through the center of the city, or go further to see picturesque nature around Moscow.

9. MOSCOW NIGHTLIFE

Night life in Moscow is divisive as everything else. Bars, clubs, concerts, parties – you can find here anything you want and can imagine. We heart Moscow suggests you some really nice places for you not to get lost in all this splendor.

• Simachev Bar is bar-club by the most famous Russian designer, a two-story house in Stoleshnikov Lane. The music and menu are diverse, as well as the audience. A special drink of the bar is cider «Sidor Simachev».
• Strelka Bar is a nice place with a great atmosphere, quality music, and beautiful interior, very popular among hip and intelligent Moscow public. In summer the terrace opens here and the place gives you stunning view of Moscow.
• Noor Bar is one of the famous bars in Moscow. Come here to try marvelous classic cocktails. Bar snacks are also noteworthy. The atmosphere is always positive and benevolent. On Fridays and Saturdays the bar has music DJ sets, and despite rather little area, there are many desirous to dance.
• Propaganda is one of the oldest clubs in Moscow. Opened back in 1997, it can be considered the same age as Moscow club culture. It is still nice and trendy. During the day time you can enjoy fresh homemade pappardelle, sandwiches on focaccia and steaks. In the evening – dances. On Thursdays it holds DJ Sanches dance party and gay parties on Sundays.

If Moscow is not enough for you, take a journey (of several hundred km from Moscow) and find yourself travelling through the «Golden Ring» of Russia. The Golden Ring is a name for several towns located around Moscow: Suzdal, Rostov, Vladimir are among them. If you want to know more about Russia, see old architecture, churches made of white stone, hear the bell-ring, see old fortifications, be ready to go out from Moscow. The first town of the Golden Ring, is Vladimir, located 179 kilometers to the east from Moscow with 378 thousand people living there. It is an old Russian town, it used to be the capital of Russia in the 12th century. Suzdal is located nearby. It’s an old town, steeped in medieval history, but with little more than 10,000 residents nowadays. Dating back to 990 AD, Suzdal is one of the oldest towns in Russia and the «jewel» of Russia’s history. Today the town is filled with busy churches and monasteries and its streets are lined by colourful traditional wooden houses. Having survived the blight of Soviet town-planning, Suzdal looks much as it did centuries ago and is one of the most popular tourist sights in Russia. Yaroslavl got its name from Yaroslav Mudry, who founded the town in the beginning of 11th century. Now it is a large industrial city, the biggest along the Golden Ring (630 inhabitants), however it has very interesting history, architecture, and city life. If you are tired of sightseeing and want to have some rest from Moscow busy life, you can take a breath of wonderful Russian nature, not going too far, and visit one of the nature hotels and spa situated near Moscow. Places like «Fox Lodge», «Zavidovo» or «Yahonty» are a good variant for relaxing rest, with marvelous nature around you and interesting entertainments for you not to get bored.

At the heart of Dubai Lynx shines the Young Lynx Academy, a beacon of creativity, collaboration, and celebration held annually. This year marks a special milestone as two creative talents from Saudi Arabia have been selected to participate in the academy - among them is Joanna AlFattani, a multimedia designer at Serviceplan Group Middle East. Join us as she shares her experience, highlighting the journey of fuelling dreams, sparking innovation, and embracing the spirit of creative collaboration at the Young Lynx Academy 2024:

“Surrounded by brilliant minds and kindred spirits, every moment at the Young Lynx Academy 2024 was a testament to the power of creativity. From the very beginning, I knew that this experience would be something truly special, an opportunity for me, a Saudi animator and creative, to grow and thrive alongside like-minded individuals from different backgrounds, each expressing their own unique stories, who shared the same passion for innovation, excellence, and learning new things.

During my time at the Academy, I was paired with a magnificent set of teammates: Ilya Myskin of Kraft Heinz, Shriya Sanjeev of AlTamimi & Company, and Peter Sleiman of UP10MEDIA. Together, we formed a creatively hybrid force, united by a common goal - to make our charity brief tackle the negative connotation towards working moms. Our desire was to create a drive for positive change, and with that, a ground breaker to remember. The synergy and camaraderie within our team was truly awe-inspiring. We brainstormed, challenged each other's ideas, and poured our hearts and souls into every aspect of the brief.

Dubai Young Lynx Academy: A melting pot for ideas, cultures, and perspectives

Throughout the duration of the academy, we were immersed in a plethora of workshops, seminars, and mentorship sessions where it was a melting pot of ideas, cultures, and perspectives, where diversity was embraced and encouraged. The vibrant energy created an atmosphere that fuelled our collective imagination. These experiences broadened our horizons, expanded our skill sets, and pushed the boundaries of our creativity. Industry experts and renowned professionals generously shared their knowledge and expertise, inspiring us to think differently and challenge conventional norms.

But it was not just the structured activities that made the academy memorable; it was the connections we forged and the friendships we cultivated. The bonds formed with fellow participants, mentors, and industry leaders were invaluable. They each saw us as future leaders and catered to our success in unique ways. Together, everyone believed in each other's potential and rallied together to create positive change.

Gratitude and Purpose: My Journey at the Dubai Young Lynx Academy

As I reflect on my journey at the Young Lynx Academy, I am filled with gratitude and a renewed sense of purpose. This transformative experience has instilled in me the joy of pushing limits, the thrill of chasing new dreams, and an unwavering belief in the extraordinary power of human creativity. The memories created and the lessons learned will continue to shape my path as I venture into the professional world, armed with newfound knowledge and skills and an unyielding passion to make a difference.

Dubai Young Lynx will forever hold a special place in my heart. Beyond the accolades and achievements, it was an environment that fostered growth, nurtured creativity, and celebrated individuality. Orientation is a valuable first step toward a successful college career, and is a requirement of the enrollment process for all first-time EMCC students.

A JourneyEAST half-day session includes:

• An overview of the entire college experience
• Opportunity for one-on-one class registration with an adviser

Campus Tour

• Learning to set up and use their student email and navigating LEO, EMCC’s student portal
• Learning to use Canvas and Student Planner
• Scholarship and Financial Aid Information

Students must have already applied for admission to EMCC and submitted any items needed for admissions by their orientation date.  Please refer to the EMCC Admissions Checklist for more information regarding admissions.

East Canton youngster Mazin Hmidan finds unlikely path to youth wrestling state titles

• East Canton Elementary School student Mazin Hmidan recently won three youth wrestling state titles.
• Hmidan was discovered after he was seen wrestling other children during one of his sister's softball games.
• Hmidan's journey has been guided by longtime former Massillon varsity head coach Gil Donahue.

Just playing around with some other kids has led 8-year-old Mazin Hmidan on a quite a journey in youth wrestling.

The East Canton Elementary School student recently won three individual state championships at the youth level at 55 pounds. Hmidan won the OYWA, OAC and OHWAY state championships. He is believed to be the first Stark County youth wrestler to accomplish such a feat. Perhaps the only thing wilder than the success Hmidan has experienced is how he was discovered.

"We took him to his sister's softball game and some of the boys were all wrestling each other on the side," father Brian Hmidan said. "An area youth wrestling coach happened to be watching all the kids play. The coach approached us and asked us if he had any interest in wrestling competitively because he thought he was a natural."

That chance meeting eventually led the Hmidans to the Donahue Wrestling Academy. It is a school for aspiring youth wrestlers run by former longtime Massillon varsity coach Gil Donahue. Hmidan managed to make an immediate impression on Donahue.

"He had the aggression and the mental fortitude needed to be successful right away," Donahue said. "I coached varsity wrestling at Massillon for over 20 years and very few kids showed that kind of natural ability at that age. He's a special kid."

Donahue began working with Hmidan to help develop his mental approach.

"It's been a different path," Donahue said. "He's traveling a different path than most of the kids his age. They have a lot more trials and adversity early on. They key for Maz is to just keep him focused and keep him wanting to continue on with the sport. You can go a long time in between seeing a kid with his type of ability come through. He really is special."

It's hard to argue with the words of Hmidan's coach after his results this past winter. Hmidan has not just been beating kids his age in his weight class. He defeated some kids who were as much 3 years older on the way to winning one of the three state tournaments.

"He really just blew us away this year with his performance," Brian Hmidan said. "He's ended up just being a natural at it. I always like to tell people that it was a case that Mazin likes to do what he is doing now before he knew what it was he was doing."

The journey continues this summer for Hmidan, who is scheduled to compete at several national events.

His parents are doing everything they can to keep the pressure off of Hmidan as expectations increase with his early success.

"More than anything, we stress to him not to dwell on things either way," Brian Hmidan said. "We don't want him going out thinking that he has to win every time he steps out on the mat. We just want him to do his best with no pressure. That's very important to us. We don't want him to feel success is pushed or mandated by us. We just want him to know that we are proud of him as long as he tries his best. We just want to be proud and help him achieve the things he wants to achieve. We want it to be about the process and having a good attitude."
