 CLEAR BAG POLICY 

Only clear, uncolored plastic bags will be permitted into the facility; or guests may carry one opaque clutch-sized purse or wallet, not exceeding 4.5 inches tall by 6.5 inches long. Exceptions will be made for bags with medical necessity after appropriate inspection. Bags that do not meet these guidelines must be returned to a vehicle or discarded. CHI Health Center staff members are not permitted to hold or store bags on the premises.

PROHIBITED ITEMS

Any type of weapon, real or fake, or any item resembling a weapon is strictly banned from the MECA campus. These restrictions also apply to individuals lawfully permitted to carry concealed weapons. Weapons may not be held or checked by CHI Health Center staff. Other prohibited items include cameras with detachable lenses measuring 3.5 inches or larger (subject to change at tour discretion) and outside food or beverage. Legendary rock band Journey announces Omaha concert this spring

"Don't Stop Believin'," Omaha.

Legendary rock band Journey will be performing at the CHI Health Center this spring.

The concert, scheduled for April 15, is part of the band's 50th anniversary Freedom Tour 2024, featuring special guest Toto.

“We are looking forward to hitting the road again with our very good friends TOTO! Come join us for a special evening full of fun and rockin’ good memories. See you soon, friends,” lead guitarist Neal Schon said in a statement.

Journey is also scheduled to perform in Sioux City on Feb. 28.

Tickets will be available here on Sept. 29 at 10 a.m.

Legendary rock band Journey to tour in Omaha this upcoming April

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Legendary rock band Journey announced they will make a stop at the CHI Health Center on April 15, 2024.

Due to the successful 2023 Freedom Tour, Journey announced a new round of shows for their 50th Anniversary Freedom Tour 2024 featuring special guest TOTO.

Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets for the U.S. dates beginning Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. local time until Sept. 28 at 10 p.m. local time through Citi Entertainment (excluding Canada and Sioux City shows).

Journey making stop in Omaha for 50th anniversary tour

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Legendary rock band Journey announced they will be stopping in Omaha next year on its 2024 50th Anniversary Freedom Tour.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will perform in Omaha on Monday, April 15 at CHI Health Center. Fans can RSVP for notification when tickets go on sale on the band’s website . Yacht-rockers Toto will join them as special guests.

The 2024 tour begins February 9 in Biloxi, Miss. before wrapping up in Bridgeport, Conn. on April 29.

8-Session Family Support Groups

Our 8-Session Support Groups are a great choice for families who are ready to dive a little deeper and make a bigger time and attendance commitment. In this curriculum-based program, the same families attend for all 8 sessions as they progress through a series of grief-related topics. Having the same people in your group fosters trust and comfort, thus promoting more significant progress and better outcomes. Youth and adults work with trained facilitators in separate age/developmentally-scaled small groups.

When: 8-session groups run 4 times per year, alternating between Mondays and Tuesdays.

Time: approximately 6:30-7:45pm for 8 weeks in a row. Must plan to attend all 8 session.

Adults Helping Adults (AHA)

Adults Helping Adults (AHA) is a free in-person peer support grief group for adults who meet on a different night from the agency’s family support groups. Whether you’re 19 or 90, and regardless of how your special person(s) have died, we’d love to help you process and cope, create opportunity for connections, and hold space for all the feelings that come along with grief. It’s our privilege to walk alongside you. Grief is heavy and you truly don’t have to carry it alone. We hope to see you there. 

When : 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month

Tinsel & Tears

The hustle and bustle of holidays can be especially challenging for people who are grieving. Tinsel & Tears is an opportunity to carve out dedicated time and space to remember loved ones and to make new holiday memories, while honoring the old. These day camps are filled with festive music, crafts, and activities. Whole families and-or groups of friends sign up and participate together alongside other participants and volunteers. There are plenty keepsakes and snacks to take home!

Youth/Tween/Teen Special Events with Band of the Strong

Our special programming, in partnership with Band of the Strong is created for grieving youth aged 10-18 are incredible opportunities for youth to build a community with others their own age who just “get it.”

Events are hosted quarterly and incorporate things like fishing, hiking, photography, painting, writing, and even staying overnight at the Omaha Zoo in June! 

Creative Nights are held March – May (see registration form linked below for specific dates). 

 Open to kids age 10-18 who have had a significant person in their lives die.

Suicide Loss Survivors

Grief support group.

The Suicide Loss Survivors Group is a twice-monthly peer-based grief support group for adults who have experienced the pain of losing someone to suicide death. Whether you are grieving the loss of a family member, friend,  coworker, or other relationship, and regardless of how much time has passed since their death by suicide, you are welcome to attend this group.

When: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.

“Week after week, my daughter and I came back, and the support group was the best part of our week. I did my best to open up myself and my grief to the group, and in turn I felt myself growing. Over in the pre-teen group, my daughter was actually “having fun”. Let me say that again: My child had fun at a grief support group. She found a precious outlet to voice her grief and she met people her age who understood, and I’m so thankful for that. I have gained so much from this experience, and I think I understand now what moving forward looks like.”

The rock/pop group JOURNEY reigned the billboard charts through much of the 70’s and 80’s, churning out hit after hit and leaving us smiling, crying, or singing along at every turn. Decades later, their uplifting and powerful music continues to leave an impression on all who are privileged enough to hear and experience it.

In honor of JOURNEY’s legacy, five well-seasoned musicians from Omaha Nebraska converged as ReCaptured to re-create, and allow audiences of all ages to recapture, the sights, the sounds, and the feelings we remember so well from the era when JOURNEY captivated us all with their music and their message. Every member of ReCaptured is dedicated to the goal of this re-creation, from Steve’s convincing and accurate portrayal of Steve Perry’s physical nuances and vocal inflections, to Danny’s amazingly powerful renditions of Neal Schon’s timeless guitar licks. Chuck, Dave, and Todd project a confident musical performance that fills every room with the rhythm of JOURNEY that we all know and love.

True Purpose

Congratulations to Tyrece and Tashiara Wilson who received a BFJ grant! Their organization, Purpose Ministries, provides housing and other services to those in need. Their mission is inspiring others to believe in their potential, discover their gifts and ignite their purpose. They do it through teaching, coaching, empowerment and equipping people to reach their potential through a proven growth process that produces a healthy and sustainable life change.

Project Assist

Adam Barnes' Project Assist nonprofit is still active thanks to BFJ! They are growing daily and couldn't be more excited about where they are headed. Since May, they have been able to donate over 200 book bags, 400 winter coats, and donated more then $2000 worth of goods to the Food Bank. They have helped hundreds of families in a short period of time and can't wait to make that thousands of families and beyond.

Blue Bucket Project

We are excited to announce that BFJ Omaha has given a grant to Cindy Tefft and her Blue Bucket Project! Cindy gives volunteers a ‘Blue Bucket’ kit containing everything necessary for people to pick up trash as a volunteer activity or even during their daily walks outdoors. Cindy is partnering with Keep Omaha Beautiful in this effort. 

Founded in 2012, Bread for the Journey (BFJ) Omaha has a unique philosophy of providing support to people who are passionate about making a difference in the local community. BFJ Omaha has awarded over $69,000 in micro grants to more than 41 groups and individuals. We believe that people know best what is needed to impact those whose lives they touch and interact with daily. It’s about trust and grassroots solutions to community issues without all of the red tape and no expectation of repayment.

From acclimation of Sudanese refugees to Omaha, to after school coding clubs for kids, to musical expression for teens, mobile medical clinics and young adults with autism, BFJ’s micro grants are helping to improve the quality of life of Omaha’s most vulnerable residents.

The mission of FITGirl, Inc is to empower girls and young women through outdoor, multi-sport adventures to lead healthy, resilient lives.  Cheri Dickmeyer, founder of FitGirl, Inc has built the confidence of thousands of young girls since its inception in 2015.  She is making a big difference in their lives and our community.

The Rose House

TaRae Peoples has a passion to help others.  The Mission of the Rose House is to  encourage, empower and prepare... single mothers for life self-sustainability through mentorship and teaching.

Cassondra Trotter-June is passionate, energetic, and is on a mission to cook 'Real Meals' for the elderly in our community! We support her and wish her our best as she supports our community!

Bread For The Journey  provided a grant to Christin Ones of Envision Academy, who is passionate to help children learn. Envision Academy provides alternative schooling for students in North Omaha

Cornerstone Healthcare

Cherisa Meyer-Fletcher is a Physician’s Assistant, who create a mobile health outreach service in Omaha. Her goal is to serve those people in our community who can’t easily get to the doctor (because of transportation or language barriers) and who need to be educated about their health and wellbeing.  She comes to them making caregiving much more effective and efficient.

SMILE BAGGS

Desree Coleman from Smile Baggs received a grant recently from Bread for the Journey. Smile Baggs's mission is to equip and empower women with lasting tools to rebuild their lives, create stability for their families, and a brighter future for their children. 

Healing Day

Susan Rogert began a healing day program to assist all Omaha first responders and veterans in stress reduction and relaxation. Susan is a Usui Reiki Master and loves helping people on a mind, body, and spirit level with this amazing technique.

Our Gathering Place

Kinesha Roach is making a huge difference in the lives of challenged children,  O.U.R. Gathering Place is a mobile monthly community dinner for families with special needs children/teens. They help families by making them aware of various resources to empower their children. They offer a judgement free zone for children to be their authentic selves. Special needs parents have a common bond and this amazing organization provides much support.

An early grant helped  Victor  and Jennifer start a girls coding club that evolved into Bricklayer, a software tool that teaches coding.

  It has since been adopted by many local school districts as well as UN-Omaha. Individuals have used it worldwide.

Inspire Collaborative Health

Allison Beninato and ICH bridges the gap between medical providers and alternative practitioners to better support overall well-being, preventative measures and short and long term care for individuals.

Destiny Cafe

Joan Allen created the Destiny Cafe for a place that non-neurotypical adults can feel empowered within the Omaha  Community.   Through restaurant job 

training and life skills, intellectual and developmental disabled individuals can unlock their full potential.

Healing Hands of NE

Dr. Demetrio Aguila created  The M25  Program within Healing Hands of Nebraska to make patient's dreams come true with surgical procedures paid by their own community service.

Omaha Jitterbugs

This  nonprofit organization brings classic swing era dancing to life through instructional classes with a diversity, equity and inclusion focus.  All are welcome to enjoy the social interaction and community engagement that has created deep diverse friendships.

Grant Brings Pakistani English Teachers to UNO

UNO’s International Program’s Center for Afghanistan Studies is preparing to host 34 Pakistani English teachers for a six-week teacher training and cultural program. The participants, from five provinces of Pakistan, are set to arrive in Omaha on April 20, 2024. Pakistan Excellence and Achievement (TEA) English Language Teacher Exchange is funded by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and in partnership with Vision Building Future (VBF), a Pakistani NGO. The program promotes the development of English language skills, knowledge of current English Language Teaching (ELT) pedagogies, and exposure to technology related to teaching and teaching management systems. Other key elements of the program are leadership and community engagement. These professional development opportunities are accomplished through a blend of classroom and field experiences. This will be the 6th cohort of Pakistani teachers that have come to UNO since Spring 2022. In the coming year, an additional 33 Pakistani teachers will be trained at UNO and return to their home country making great impacts in education and benefiting their local communities. Each participant returns home with a final leadership project plan of action. TEA alumni of the UNO program have returned with projects related to professional development workshops, teacher training, taking care of the environment, community engagement and service through volunteer clubs, women’s empowerment, and seasonal camps for children. In addition to the academic program, the participants gain cultural experiences through school visits in the Omaha area, visits to local museums and other places of interest, and trips to South Dakota and Washington DC.

The program partners with several departments at UNO as well as schools within the Omaha area and rural areas nearby. UNO university departments and programs partnered with are Intensive Language at UNO (ILUNO), International Professional Development (IPD), Teacher Education, Department of English, Service-Learning Academy, Community Engagement Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Writing Center, Foreign Languages and Literature, and Educational Leadership. The program also partners with instructors from Omaha Public Schools who introduce participants to the U.S. school system, assessment practices, curriculum, and best practices in instruction. Local school partnerships in Omaha and the surrounding area included: Beveridge Magnet, Brownell Talbot, Bryan High, Bryan Middle, Burke High, South High, St. Pius X / St. Leo Catholic School, Hillrise Elementary in Elkhorn, Oakland-Craig, and Blair Public Schools. All these partnerships allow the UNO team to provide the best instruction in areas of ELT pedagogy and leadership – the two major academic components of the TEA program. One of the strengths of the program is its enduring impact. Mentors and instructors at UNO stay connected with and are available for continued mentoring and communications concerning professional development, teaching practices, and final leadership projects.

The coming group of Pakistani English teachers has already been engaging with UNO mentors and instructors through virtual programming which began in February. The virtual program provides orientation and introductory sessions for the major components of the in-person programming on the UNO campus. Participants have expressed their anticipation in the following quotes.

“I am hoping to gain something extraordinary from this wonderful experience in the U.S. I will be learning up to date English language teaching methodologies and secondly will be acquiring strong leadership skills from my great mentors.”

“I believe this will be a great opportunity for me to learn about teaching methodologies, US culture, and improve communication skills.”

“I want to learn pedagogical skills through this exposure. Through this journey I am hoping to improve my English speaking skills as well. I am determined to improve my teaching skills and teach my students in a better way after I will come back to my country.”

“I hope to enhance my language proficiency by immersing myself in an English-speaking environment, where I believe improvement is inevitable. Additionally, experiencing firsthand the classroom dynamics and teaching methodologies in a developed country like the USA will provide me with valuable insights into effective pedagogical approaches.”
