Country music duo Brooks & Dunn is hitting the road in May (potentially under a Neon Moon) with special guests country singer and songwriter David Lee Murphy and country hitmaker ERNEST for their REBOOT Tour.

Kicking off in West Palm Beach, FL on May 3, the Country Music Hall of Famers (whose given names are Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn) tour includes 20 dates across the United States and Canada.

The tour ends on Aug. 8 in Welch, Minnesota.

With 20 No. 1 hits dating back to the early 90s, two GRAMMY awards, dozens of ACM and CMA honors − the duo's influence on today’s country is transparent. Hits like “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” “My Maria” and “Believe” have "propelled the duo" to more than 30 million albums sold.

"Their original 'Merle Haggard meets The Rolling Stones'” was the vibe made them progressive stars in their own right," according to Live Nation.

The duo’s recently released collaboration project REBOOT debuted at No. One on Billboard’s Top Country Album

Brooks & Dunn Talk About Getting Back on Stage for Their REBOOT Tour: 'It Doesn't Really Leave You'

"Whatever the reason is, we are glad they're here because it gives us this feeling that we are doing this for the first time," Kix Brooks tells PEOPLE of the duo's new fans

kix brooks tour

It's a sunny Saturday afternoon in Chicago, and country duo Brooks & Dunn look fresh and rested and more than ready to kill it on stage for yet another night as part of their REBOOT tour.

"I don't feel any different than I did 10 years ago," Kix Brooks, 66, claims in a backstage interview with PEOPLE, as his baseball cap proudly takes the same position as his cowboy hat will later that night. "If you do this for 20 years in a row without stopping, it doesn't really leave you necessarily. It's just a routine at this point."

His longtime Brooks & Dunn partner Ronnie Dunn nods his head in agreement, and then makes a certainly understandable admission.

"The first day we went home after the first run, I slept till 10:30 that morning, which is pretty much unheard of for me," explains Dunn, 68, who is also wearing a baseball cap, albeit backwards. "And out here I'm doing the same thing, sleeping till 10:30 or 11 a.m. I mean, we don't walk offstage till 11 p.m."

It's a walk offstage that the country duo has taken together multiple times throughout their long and storied career, a walk that they jokingly refer to as "going from an F16 fire jet into an ice chamber." It's a shock to the system certainly, but nothing "three beers or a couple of shots can't fix,'" they say.

But it's also a walk they once took that seemed to signal that the days of Brook & Dunn were over a bunch of years ago, a walk that led them both to branch out both personally and professionally, if only to give them time to figure out just what was next. And then, the pandemic gave them more than enough time to think about it.

While their current tour was scrapped last year due to the ongoing pandemic, Brooks & Dunn is now back on the road, bringing their fans a show that resembles a religious revival of sorts.

"For a lot of our audience, you know, you do get to relive something with them that happened several semesters ago for all of us," Brooks says with a laugh. "We see a lot of fans out there that are our age. We built this career together, with them right beside us. And they're still supporting us like they did back then."

But what serves as even more intriguing to Brooks & Dunn these days are the new fans they see out in that crowd, the fans that know every word to songs like "Boot Scootin' Boogie" and "Play Something Country," the fans that can't quite recall the day the country duo ever went and waved goodbye. Instead, it's those fans that are not only coming out to the REBOOT tour, but the same ones that have gone and taken songs of theirs such as "Neon Moon" to viral status.

"I don't know if they got to know us from their parents or from the REBOOT album or maybe they actually did hear our songs on the radio," Brooks admits. "Whatever the reason is, we are glad they're here because it gives us this feeling that we are doing this for the first time. I mean, you really do get that feeling. It's a great vibe."

Brooks chuckles to himself about the cool vernacular that seems to drip from his mouth these days, as he and Dunn have been actively watching this new fan base take a might big liking to them on TikTok.

"Ronnie's turned me onto this whole social media thing," Brooks says. "I heard there was this viral thing going on and I just ended up stopping and checked it out. This thing's going crazy. And it's really fun to watch these people."

In fact, "Neon Moon" has gone and snagged 1 billion plays in just two weeks on TikTok, with the viral dance basically pulling from the duo's classic country hit but with a heartier electric remix.

"It's good to see these things pop up and people have fun with it," Brooks adds, mentioning that his daughter Molly even finds some good-natured humor in watching her dad try to keep up. "I love watching post after post of these people getting down to this 'Neon Moon' mix, or whatever it is. It doesn't mean I'm going to be any good at it or feel comfortable doing it myself! I'm just having a hard time with it. There is a little bit of a learning curve."

"This is going to be a hard, deep dive for Kix, this whole TikTok thing," Dunn explains.

No matter really, because it is certain that with this new attention comes an affirmation that the goals that Brooks & Dunn set out to accomplish all those years ago are still coming true.

"We have said from the very beginning that we wanted to maintain longevity, and I think the music is allowing us to do that," says Dunn. "I mean, we take time off and the music continues."

And heck, despite being off the road for over 10 years — Vegas residency notwithstanding — Brooks & Dunn even snagged a vocal duo of the year nomination at the CMA Awards this year. But don't expect them to get too excited over the recognition.

"I think they just needed seat fillers at this point," jokes Brooks, as Dunn nods in mild agreement. "I mean, that is a reality for us. We're not really competing at the CMAs with those other acts. I won't say it's embarrassing, but I don't feel like we're really running with the same agenda as those other acts are. They're building their career right now and that's not really what we are doing."

The conversation stalls slightly, and then the question is asked.

How long can we expect to see Brooks & Dunn out on the road touring?

"We have a team that's a lot more in tune to that than we are," Dunn says. "We don't roll all these trucks and buses out without knowing there's people going to be in those seats that want us to come."

Was there ever a doubt that they would come?

"Yeah," Brooks interjects. "That's part of the neurosis of it all."

Brooks & Dunn coming to Pittsburgh for 'Reboot Tour'

Top-selling county music duo Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn are making a long-awaited return to Pittsburgh.

On Monday morning, it was announced Brooks & Dunn will perform May 12 at PPG Paints Arena as part of their extended “Reboot Arena Tour.” Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Scotty McCreery will be the opening performer.

No one could blame Pittsburgh-area fans for giving up hope of seeing Brooks & Dunn in concert again.

They played what was billed as their final show together in 2010 as part of a farewell tour called “The Last Rodeo.” On that tour, they performed at First Niagara Pavilion in Burgettstown on July 30 .

They caught their fans by surprise the year before when they announced they were going to stop touring together.

“After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it’s time to call it a day,” they said at the time.

Though they indicated the split was amicable, TasteofCountry.com reported that in later interviews they said “things between them were so tense at one point in the late 1990s that they recorded songs for an album in different studios with different producers.”

Supposedly, Brooks & Dunn played their final show Sept. 2, 2010, in Nashville. But in Elton John fashion, they were bowing out prematurely. They did go their separate ways for a while and recorded solo albums.

However, the duo got back together in 2015 for a Las Vegas residency and by 2019 they recorded an album called “Reboot.” In January 2020, they announced a reboot tour, but it was postponed until 2021 by the pandemic and finally kicked off that September.

“Last year, you all reminded us just how much fun it is to walk out on that stage and share the night with ya!” Brooks said. “We love what we do, but we’re just surfing your wave … can’t wait.”

“The Brooks and Dunn posse rides again,” Dunn said. “More excited to hit the big stage as we ever have been!”

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at www.brooks-dunn.com and www.livenation.com . Fans also can buy VIP Packages. For more information, visit www.vipnation.com .

Brooks & Dunn is an American country act comprised of singer/songwriters Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn. The two troubadours have been together since the early 90s and are recognized as essentials of the Nashville music scene, earning praise for with their catchy dance hall tunes and rambling country rockers.

Before Brooks and Dunn became the hit duo they are known as today, each musician got his start behind the scenes, writing songs for artists with the stature they dreamed of possessing and one day would eventually exceed. Brooks a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, got his start in the music industry playing varying venues in the state of Maine. He later moved to Nashville in 1979 and wrote several hit singles for big time acts such as John Conlee, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Oak Ridge Boys, Nicolette Larson, and Keith Palmer.

Ronnie Dunn was born and raised in Coleman, Texas, which does not come to much of a surprise as the influence of Texan country swing pioneer Bob Willis permeates through his style. Dunn’s original intentions were to become a Baptist preacher; however, he had a mutual passion for music. The latter of the two got the better of him as his stints playing in bars eventually got him kicked out of Hardin-Simmons University and resultantly put his pursuits as an evangelist on hold. Dunn later moved to Nashville and caught the attention of Tim DuBois, an executive of Arista Nashville. DuBois concocted the idea of pairing Dunn with Brooks and after hearing their collaborative demo he was convinced that they should act as a duo.

Brooks & Dunn were an instant success. A year after their formation they released their debut single “Brand New Man”, which hit no.1 on the Hot Country Songs in June 1991. This track was featured on their 1st studio album (also entitled “Brand New Man” ) alongside four other hit singles “My Next Broken Heart”, “Neon Moon”, “Lost and Found”, and “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”. The album went to no. 3 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums charts, no. 10 on the US Billboard 200 and has since gone on to sell over 6 million copies. Their sophomore release “Hard Workin’ Man” matched the success of their triumphant debut. It peaked at no. 9 on the US Billboard Charts and included 5 singles that entered in the top 5 of the US Country Singles Chart.

The 90s proved to be a prolifically creative time for the duo. They spewed out hit after hit, releasing 2 country chart topping albums “Waitin’ on Sundown” and “Borderline”, which housed no.1 singles such as “She’s Not the Cheatin’ Kind”, “Little Miss Honky Tonk”, “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone”, “My Maria”, and “A Man This Lonely”. Though the team were only four albums into their career a greatest hits compilation was more than warranted. In fact the hits were so profuse a 2nd greatest hits compilation arrived in 2004.

Brooks & Dunn exemplified they still held their charm with their 5th studio album “If You See Her”. Like their previous releases the album was a commercial success reaching no.4 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums and sporting three no.1 singles: “If You See Him/If You See Her”, “How Long Gone”, and “Husbands and Wives”.

Their hot streak came to an end with their 6th studio album “Tight Rope”. While the album was in no way a commercial flop it failed to live up to the standard set by it’s predecessor; however, it did peak at no. 6 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums and featured the no.5 hit single “You’ll Always Be Loved By Me”.

The duo more than picked up the “slack” in the 2000s, releasing three consecutive albums to top the country charts “Steers & Stripes”, “Red Dirt Road”, and “Hillbilly Deluxe”. Five of their singles from this period claimed the no.1 spot on the Country singles chart and in the midst of all this they also released a widely popular Christmas album “It Won’t Be Christmas Without You”.

On 2 October 2007 Brooks & Dunn released their final studio album “Cowboy Town”. It was followed by two additional compilation albums: “Playlist: The Very Best of Brooks & Dunn” and “#1’s... and Then Some” as well as their farewell tour “The Last Rodeo”. After 20 years together the two musicians amicably parted ways to pursue solo careers; however, at the beginning of 2015 they reunited to perform a series of shows in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Live reviews

With over 30 million albums sold worldwide, Brooks and Dunn are the second highest selling musical duo of all time, runners up only to Simon and Garfunkel. With 10 studio albums and just under 20 years touring under their belts, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn knew how to put on a show before their retirement in 2010. The duo would emerge on stage looking more American than apple pie, with buffalo skulls heading their drum kit and spurs knocking on their boots, the pair on the ‘Last Rodeo Tour’ would open with rowdy honky tonk numbers ‘Play Something Country’ and ‘Put a Girl in It’.

The hits would keep on rollin’, Louisiana born Brooks brooding, and Ronnie Dunn, Texan through-and-through, charging around the stage, letting the confetti fly as the patriotism was notched up to 11 with the inclusion of the song both Bush and Obama used in their Presidential campaigns “Only in America”.

The night would undoubtedly come to a close with arguably the duo’s biggest hit and the saviour of line dancing “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” and the pair would inevitably bring down the house. It doesn’t get more red, white and blue than a Brooks and Dunn concert, and it’s a shame one of the most ‘Murica bands of all time have bowed out, but line dancing will be forever grateful for the contribution of these legends to country music.

Brooks and Dunn, a band named after it’s two members Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, is coming back from retirement in order to perform one last whistle stop tour. Brooks and Dunn is one of the most successful musical duo bands of all time, second only to the legendary Simon and Garfunkel. Legends in their own right, Brooks and Dunn spent twenty years performing together and have sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Their incredible success and enormous fan following is awe inspiring. The amount of people who came to see them perform one last time was phenomenal and the atmosphere all night was electric, one of the rowdiest and exciting atmospheres I have ever experienced at a country performance. Brooks and Dunn rocked on to stage looking as quintessentially American as you could possibly imagine, cowboy boots and all. They entertained the crowd with their upbeat, honky tonk hits such as ‘Neon Boots’, ‘My Maria’ and ‘You Can’t Take the Honky Tonk Out of the Girl’. The amount of thigh slaps and ‘yee haws’ was unbelievable. Brooks and Dunn put on one hell of a show, guitars proudly in hand, and ended the night with the countrytastic classic ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie’.

It seems to be impossible to get Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn offstage. After promising a final performance in 2010 before their retirement, they return in 2015 for a series of concerts much to the delight of their large fanbase. The incredibly successful duo has sold millions of country records globally so they have no issue in packing out venues time and time again.

The rapport the two musicians share is absolutely electric so it would seem foolish for them to go separate ways. They clearly enjoy playing out the material and they have a great live band formed to aid them in the recreation of the long discography. The fans are completely behind them regardless of age, they all sing with huge enthusiasm during the classics including 'Only in America' and 'Ain't Nothing 'bout You'. It is crazy to think they have only ever released one single in their whole career that didn't make the US top 20 so collating the material is tough yet they manage it well and finish on a high of 'Fancy'.

Best concert ever. We were 4 rows back from the stage. And at the end of the concert brooks and Dunn sang only in America with 6 United States Army people standing and saluting us. That was really awesome.
