I've never tried the KS sheets! Good thing I read this post before I ever bought any. Phew! Please do a post on the Jennifer Adams sheets when there's a trunk show in town. Her sheets are like butter! I've laundered them a thousand times and they're just as fabulous as the day I got them!

It really is a shame that the KS sheets have gone down in quality because they used to be great, but I am happy to report that the Charisma King sheet set I purchased to replace the KS King set are holding up wonderfully and seem to get softer and softer with each wash. According to Jennifer Adams website she has a road show this weekend at the Leesburg warehouse in Northern VA and I plan to make a trip out there to check out her products so stay tuned for a future post.

I bought a set of Kirkland sheets in 2009 which were THE BEST SHEETS I HAVE EVER OWNED. Since losing the sheets in a move, I have longed to sleep on those same sheets again, suffering serious sheet obsession and Sarah Mclaughlin eyes, and I'm so sad they're not producing the same sheet of the same quality anymore. Are the Charisma sheets just as comfortable as the 2009 Kirkland sheets?

I'm afraid neither the new KS sheets or the Charisma sheets feel exactly the same as the older KS sheets, which as you know felt quite silky. The Charisma sheets are close though so you may want to give them a try, just keep all of the packaging and your receipt and if they don't meet your standards you can return them to Costco. For an even silkier feel that might be even closer to what the older KS sheets felt like I think you might like the Jennifer Adams sheets. You can buy them on Costco.com ( http://www.costco.com/Jennifer-Adams-Home-Eternal-Collection.product.100032221.html ) or wait for them to come to a warehouse near you ( http://www.jenniferadamshome.com/Articles.asp?ID=252 ). They are more expensive though ($99 for a King set) and they are made of microfiber instead of a natural fiber like cotton. But they can be returned too if you don't care for them. Good luck!

I've been desperately looking for a king size version of the Charism NON SATEEN sheets. I'm just not a fan of the silky feel of sateen and I loved the crispness of a tick cotton, like those sheets. I can find a few queen sets, but not King. 🙁 Bonus though, I found your blog when I was searching for them. 🙂

Would you please tell me your long-term experience with the Charisma sheet set. I'm looking to buy a queen sheet set at costco.com or in the store, but I'm unsure whether to get the Charisma, Kirkland, or Veratex brand. The Charisma brand, as recommended by you over the Kirkland brand, have a lot of bad reviews on costco.com. Are you still enjoying the Charisma sheet set. Reviewers complained about rips, holes and quick wear-and-tear of the Charisma fitted sheet. Should I buy this brand any way because of the good return policy and cheap price ($40 queen set)?

I hope you are able to find Non-Sateen sheets that you are looking for. Unfortunately as far as I am aware the only cotton sheets sold by Costco (in store or in warehouse) all have the popular sateen weave. Perhaps try L.L.Bean who also have highly rated bedding and a wonderful return policy if you are not satisfied. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for your comment! Yes I have been very pleased with my Charisma sheet sets over the years. I have one very old set (at least 8 years old) that has developed some small holes/rips in the pillowcases where the tags are located but they are still perfectly usable and wonderfully soft from all the washings over the years. My newer Charisma set is holding up just fine and I have no complaints. As I mentioned in the post above I used to have a set of Kirkland Signature sheets I purchased many years ago that I adored, however I personally would not buy any of the current KS sheets due their poor quality. I have not tried Veratex sheets so unfortunately I cannot provide you with any feedback on that particular brand, aside from the fact that they appear to be very pricey from what I can see on costco.com. Have you tried sheets from the Jennifer Adams Eternal collection? (You can buy them on costco.com or at roadshows in warehouses.) I have a set of Jennifer Adams sheets and they are extremely durable and about half the price of the Veratex brand. I have four different sets of what I like to call "everyday sheets," (i.e. non-flannel/winter sheets) two Charisma, one Jennifer Adams, and one set from Vice Merchants and I rotate through those 4 sets using a different set each week. Four sets may be excessive but I think having at least more than one set and rotating them is key to making any set of sheets last. I hope this answers your questions and remember any brand that you buy from Costco or costco.com can be returned if you are not satisfied (just remember to hang on to your receipt)! Good luck 🙂

I've owned my Kirkland brand 540 thread count sheets (same as in picture posted) for about 10 years now. I was them at least twice a month, in various types of machines (front loaders, laundromats, top loaders) and they are still going strong. So it's possible you got the lemon of the bunch? I LOVE my sheets, they have kept me warm in the winter (after heating them up with a little body heat), and cool in the summer. Also, thankfully for Costco members, they offer a 100% money back guarantee for most purchases. Hopefully you'll give them another chance and see how awesome they are. Sorry you got a bad set! 🙁

Approximately, 4 years ago, I have purchased the Charisma 100% Egyptian Cotton sheet set from Costco. I love these sheets and decided to buy an additional pair last week. I washed them before I place them on the bed and when I went to sleep on them, I wasn't happy with the feel of them. Not like the ones I previousley purchased. I ended up returning the two pair I hadn't opened and asked if I could return the onces I had open and washed. Costco said I could return the opened one. What a dissappointment. Finally found ones I liked, now I have to go searching again. This is like buying a new mattress. "they just don't make them like the used to"! Thanks for listening!

I just went onto Costco.com to purchase Twin sheets in the KS 540 thread count. They do not carry them. I found your post of KS vs. Charisma. Too bad! As I type, my new set of Queen size KS 540s are in the washer for the first time. Will I be returning them? Time will tell.

Glad I decided to read this blog. thought it was me I purchased the double fitted sheets 10 years ago and loved its feel well two years ago I purchased a second one only to find very soon after it had a rip I had believed this to be the original. a purchased a replacement last year well that has only been used since Christmas and now also has a rip they are washed at low temp and dried on an airer. now I will return it shame the feel is great

Costco shocked me by not accepting a return on my KS sheets with a huge ripped area in the fitted sheet. They said we purchased three years ago, so were not returnable! very upset as I have sheets from JCPenney that are ten years old and still fine. I thought Costco would accept returns except for a 90 day policy on electronics.

You could also leave a messages on Costcos Facebook page explaining your situation – I have had great experience getting questions answered and issues resolved by communicating with Costco through their Facebook page. thanks for your comment! It is disappointing when a beloved product is changed so that it is no longer as fabulous as it once was. Hopefully Costco will take note of the number of returns they are getting and go back to better quality sheets.

Choosing a fabric with best patterns is a good idea for decorating our bedroom. A lot of decorating ideas for the bedroom can be got from online images and photos.

I loved loved loved my KS sheets in the past. I bought a king size bed recently and went to Costco and picked up 2 sets. Within 3 days the first set pilled…EVERYWHERE! I put the second set on hoping it was just a bad set. Nope. These pilled too! I seriously am so upset about it. I can't find sheets that are as silky and durable as the old KS sheets! Why would they change?!?!?!

As Kirkland Signature is now, according Costco connection, guaranteed 100% Pimacott as proven by tagging the US picked crops with SignatureDNA, I suspect EVERY sheet to be highly recommended from now on, as customers know what is on the label is 100% what they buy…

Hi Costco Connoisseur. Have you recently tried the KS sheets? If so, what do you think of them?

Any update on the KS sheets. I'm looking to buy new, loved the old KS sheets, but am hesitant to buy after reading they are not like they used to be. Mind you that's the same with anything.

Have returned two sets of Charisma Costco sheets, the fitted sheet in both sets started shredding, each sets was about 2-3 years old Will never buy Costco sheets again, they do refund, no questions asked, but I have never had that issue with much older, and less expensive, sheets.

My KS 540 TC have also gotten tears. Although I have had them for a couple of years, I feel like they should hold up longer than that. I love everything about Costco and think their quality is great! I am both surprised and disappointed in their sheets. I still have the packaging so I am folding them up and taking them back in hopes they will let me refund or exchange.

5 Simple Tips for Using Costco for Trips and Travel

W e all know Costco rocks when it comes to great prices on toilet paper, produce, and baked chicken. But what if a great getaway is what you really need? The company often promotes vacation deals, but like the other products Costco offers, is this something you should snap up the second you see what you want, or is it a product you should skip and leave on the shelf?

We took a deep dive into the deals to help you decide whether they’re worth your hard-earned dollar.

First, we should explain what the options are. 

There are complete vacation packages or combinations you can select a la carte, from just the hotel to a hotel and flight, or hotel and car, just a rental car, cruises, or a combination of all the above. The only thing you can’t book on its own is just a flight. They offer limited-time offers, special feature deals, theme park fun, and even travel gear.

There is one catch. You must have a Costco membership to buy any of it. But often, the travel deals more than make up for the cost of joining the club. The memberships start at $60 a year. Or, you can buy the Gold Star Executive membership, which costs $120 a year, but you’ll get additional Costco Travel benefits and 2% back (up to $1,000 in annual rewards) on qualifying purchases, and that includes travel. You can also get 3% cash back on what you buy if you use the Costco Anywhere Visa when booking through the Costco site. It all adds up when considering your next trip.

1. Are the prices that much lower than I can get on my own?

Well, that depends. You can likely find cheaper prices to go to certain destinations, but not likely at the same level of quality. There are more than 8,000 hotels in thousands of cities around the U.S. and beyond. Costco offers flights on a variety of airlines. And as we already mentioned, you can also take a cruise. By booking through Costco, you typically get perks as part of your package, including discounts for restaurants near the properties you’re visiting, along with extras like spa credits and fancy tours you wouldn’t otherwise be able to book.

You can also get upgrades you’re not likely to earn booking through the discount sites. You absolutely can find deals, but don’t expect the sort of steals you may see with flash sales from airlines or hotels. If you’re looking for the basic budget deals, you can likely find those on your own, but you may not get the level of luxury you’ll find going the Costco route or with the same amount of amenities and benefits. Prices run the gamut. There are packages for about $500/person, but most multiday trips that include airfare are going to be over a grand each.

Based on the majority of reviews from people who have booked their trips through Costco Travel, the true advantages come with booking rental cars and the customer service, which most people say is better than what you’ll find on most other travel sites. There’s also the Costco private label option, the Kirkland Signature vacations. They also feature extras and are typically about 20% less than other deals. 

Keep in mind, though, in general, you’re likely to be staying at one of the bigger chain hotels, and less likely to find yourself in a smaller boutique option, so carefully consider the experience that will make you happiest. 

2. You can customize the options.

Not only can you book the flight, the hotel, theme parks, and/or a cruise, but you can even book a car ride to get you wherever you need to be. The vacation packages come with a basic itinerary after you put in your dates and destination, and you can decide if you want any upgrades. In many cases, you may have vouchers and perks as part of the package but definitely double-check to see what is included since, in most cases, food is not.

3. Travel insurance is not part of the deal.

These days, travel insurance is a pretty smart add-on. However, you cannot buy a travel insurance policy through Costco’s Travel service. You can buy it through the partner insurance company. The options include trip cancellation, trip interruption, travel delay, lost luggage coverage, and emergency medical coverage. One way to avoid that fee would be to use a travel credit card that gives you complimentary trip insurance if you pay with that. That way, you’ll still be covered.

4. Do I have to pay in full?

With Costco Travel, you can set up payments, including recurring payments, once you’ve made your initial deposit, as long as the trip isn’t too soon after you reserve the trip. 

5. So, deal or no deal?

The answer to this is based on each individual instance, but in general, if you want to pay what’s more than likely a reasonable price for a higher-end hotel and itinerary laid out for you, Costco can make sense. Based on reviews we read, most people who selected the Costco Travel option were happy they did, and that speaks volumes these days.

Costco isn't just the place where you can buy toilet paper in bulk, inexpensive gas, cheap hot dogs and gift cards. You can also book great trips via the company's online travel agency, Costco Travel.

I know, I know: At TPG, we're often staunchly against booking travel through third-party sites , as there can be tradeoffs versus booking directly. But in recent years, I've become a big fan of the travel deals I can find via Costco Travel.

When planning our annual beach trip back in 2022, my best friend found a few options for Mexican all-inclusive resorts on Costco Travel and shared the links with me. I promptly told her we'd probably be better off booking directly and brushed off the idea of booking through Costco — neither of us even had a membership at the time.

However, comparing the prices and benefits at a few of the resorts proved my initial reaction wrong.

I actually got a Costco membership to book the deal since the cost of the membership was less than what we'd save by booking through Costco. We saved around $300 on a three-night stay at TRS Coral near Cancun (one of TPG's best all-inclusive resorts in Cancun ), not including the free hydrotherapy spa circuit and the $241 Digital Costco Shop Card included in the package.

Our stay was fantastic, and I officially became a Costco Travel convert.

If you're curious about how to use Costco Travel to find deals, here's everything you need to know about Costco Travel — and why I love it for saving money on travel.

What is Costco Travel?

All Costco members have access to the Costco Travel booking platform, where you can find and book a wide range of travel — from vacation packages to hotels, cruises and rental cars. You can even book theme park vacation packages to Disney and Universal or specialty vacations such as an African safari.

Once you log in to Costco Travel, you can search for specific dates or destinations or browse through available deals and featured destinations. I personally love perusing the limited-time deals when I know I want to plan a getaway but don't have a specific destination in mind.

Trips booked through Costco Travel are often discounted and/or include perks and benefits you may not get by booking directly or through other booking portals. Usually, a trip booked through Costco Travel will also include a Digital Costco Shop Card (essentially a type of Costco gift card) of varying value.

What travel can you book through Costco Travel?

You can book hotels, cruises, rental cars and vacation packages through Costco Travel. Vacation packages range from hotel-only offers to all-encompassing packages that include airfare, hotel stays and rental cars. You can even build your own package.

However, one thing to note is that you can't book stand-alone flights via Costco Travel. There is an option to book flights through some vacation packages, but if you're only looking for airfare, you'll want to head to Google Flights to check out your options and book.

You can book Costco Travel offers both online and by phone.

Do you have to be a Costco member to use Costco Travel?

Yes. Costco Travel is an exclusive service for Costco members.

There are two personal membership levels: Gold Star and Executive. Gold Star costs $60 per year, while an Executive membership costs $120. The basic membership will give you access to all of Costco's services, including Costco Travel, while the Executive membership also comes with a 2% reward on all Costco (and Costco Travel) purchases.

I've found that the Costco Travel deals alone are worth paying the $60 Gold Star annual membership fee, even though I don't regularly use Costco for my grocery store runs.

Check sites like Groupon for discount Costco memberships, as you can sometimes save on that rate — or get an included gift card that helps offset the cost.

Is Costo Travel worth it?

Costco Travel has its pros and cons, but there are definitely times when it's worth it.

For example, let's look at a five-night stay in Maui in early April. At the time of writing, Costco is currently offering a hotel and rental car package for Hotel Wailea, a Relais & Chateaux affiliated property and one of TPG's favorite Maui hotels .

Here's one cost comparison breakdown of Costco Travel's deal versus booking directly:

Even without including the additional benefits, you're already saving more than $400 via the Costco deal. Add in the value you get from the card, daily breakfast and resort credit (which is more than $1,000 in value if you maximize all benefits), and you're looking at $1,442.45 in savings by booking through Costco Travel versus directly.

And since Hotel Wailea isn't a member of any major hotel loyalty program, booking through Costco Travel wouldn't mean missing out on elite night credits or other loyalty program benefits.

Here's another example — this time for a Universal Orlando theme park trip from June 4-6 for one adult and two children from Houston. The total cost when booking each part (hotel, tickets and airfare) individually came to $2,701.35, while booking it as a package via Costco saved just over $300.

That's a fair amount of savings you could use for some frozen butterbeer or even a new wand inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter .

When is Costco Travel not worth it?

Not every offer on Costco is worth booking.

For one, you won't necessarily find the same availability on Costco Travel. For example, flights booked through Costco may have some seats blocked off, and certain dates for hotel stays may be unavailable. Additionally, not all rental car companies are bookable through Costco Travel (such as Hertz*, which is my preferred rental car company due to the perks I get through my Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card ).

Plus, some hotel stays have a minimum stay requirement. If you're on the hunt for a long weekend getaway, you may not be able to take advantage of some Costco Travel deals.

Even when you do find availability, you should always price-check what you can find by booking directly or through your credit card travel portal and hotel programs.

After booking our fantastic stay at TRS Coral just north of Cancun through Costco, I looked at booking through Costco again in 2023 when planning our annual beach vacation.

While Costco had a deal available for the same resort, we happened to be booking when the resort chain was having a Mother's Day sale for anyone booking directly. We were able to try out a new TRS resort closer to Playa Del Carmen, TRS Yucatan; we saved more than $100 on an even nicer suite than Costco Travel offered by booking directly (even when considering the Digital Shop Card we would have gotten by booking with Costco).

Something else to consider when booking hotels through Costco Travel is loyalty program rewards and elite status. There are a lot of hotels available to book through Costco Travel that are part of major loyalty programs, from Hyatt Honors to Marriott Bonvoy to IHG One Rewards and more. But booking through Costco Travel — just like booking through most other third-party services such as Expedia — means you likely won't earn loyalty rewards, elite night credits or have any elite night benefits honored.

You'll also have to use Costco customer service if you run into any issues rather than going directly to the brand. This is especially important when considering booking a vacation package that includes flights, given the higher potential for delays or cancellations.

Why I love Costco Travel

I am typically a staunch proponent of booking directly, but Costco Travel is an exception. I've found that the benefits I can get by booking some trips via Costco outweigh the cons (some of which include having to go through Costco for any customer service help or occasionally losing out on elite night credits).

Digital Costco Shop Cards

My favorite thing about booking trips through Costco Travel is the Digital Costco Shop Card I get after booking. The card's value varies from trip to trip (generally depending on how expensive the package you book), but you can get hundreds of dollars back to use at Costco.

The Digital Costco Shop Cards can be used for Costco warehouse purchases (a game changer with grocery prices so high due to inflation), but you can also use them toward future Costco Travel bookings. And remember — Costco doesn't just carry bulk grocery items. You could use a Digital Costco Shop Card to buy a new flat-screen TV for movie nights and game days, a new outdoor patio setup ahead of summer or even Costco Pharmacy prescriptions.

I admittedly don't use Costco for groceries often (buying in bulk doesn't make a lot of sense for someone who lives alone), but I have used shop cards to help pay for Christmas presents and future Costco Travel trips. I've actually been looking into using my most recent Digital Costco Shop Card on a new pair of AirPods and a new TV mount for my living room.

Deals on non-points hotel stays and all-inclusive resorts

When I'm looking at booking a hotel stay at a brand like Hyatt or Marriott, I generally choose to book directly in order to earn elite night credits and points. However, when looking at properties not part of a major loyalty program, Costco Travel is often a go-to anytime I can find a deal.

Costco Travel has a nice deals section, and I usually look there first if I'm not sold on a specific destination for a getaway. While deals found on Costco generally have a narrow booking window, I've found that many offer a lot of flexibility for the actual trip dates.

A few examples of limited-time deals for January include Hotel Wailea from the example earlier in this guide, all-inclusive resorts in Mexico's Riviera Maya, and Disney and Universal theme park packages.

Simplifying group vacations

I'm often the travel planner in my friend group (which makes sense, considering what I do for a living), but not everyone is an avid points and miles user like myself. For group trips where we're splitting the cost of hotel rooms among multiple people, it often doesn't make sense to use points and miles to book.

Costco Travel vacation packages offer a way for all of us to save money, and it makes narrowing down potential destinations and hotels easier. Rather than everyone having to spend hours researching ideas and prices from across the internet — which might be my idea of a fun Wednesday night but isn't for some of my friends — I typically just send them to Costco Travel to see if any of the featured deals catch their eye.

Having reservation information for multiple aspects of a trip, such as a hotel and rental car package, makes sharing and saving the itineraries a breeze.

Bottom line

Whether or not you currently have a Costco membership, you shouldn't dismiss Costco Travel as just another online travel agency.

If you know where to look and are willing to price-check the deals you find, you can save a lot of money with Costco Travel deals. I've personally had a lot of success booking friends getaways to popular destinations like Mexico through Costco. Using the service has helped me save on other expenses with the Digital Costco Shop Card I've gotten with my bookings.

For me, the $60 annual membership fee to Costco has been more than worth it to utilize Costco Travel.

Ride in comfort with this 100 percent Australian Merino sheepskin cover, which fits most seats.

The product has been on sale at Jet.com for $103.19, which was a markdown from $149.99.

First Aid and Survival Kit: $79.99

On any good road trip, a few bumps and bruises are mandatory. Sometimes, it gets even worse. This kit, which comes with book-style pages for easy access and organization, is packed in a case for easy trunk storage. It can handle everything from burns to headaches. Walmart has advertised the exact same kit for $96.51.

Igloo 54 Quart Stainless Steel Cooler: $134.99

A good cooler is an absolute essential on the road — "good" being the key word.

"Costco helps you pamper yourself," Gracon said. "From the exclusivity of membership to quality, even luxury, you didn't know you could afford." There are lots of ways to shop smarter at Costo , too. In the realm of coolers, this Igloo is undoubtedly luxurious.

Made from stainless steel and Ultratherm insulation, it's as rugged as it is functional. It keeps ice frozen for up to three days. The Wish shopping website has priced the same cooler at $158.68, which was a markdown from $213.

Winplus Lithium Jump Starter With Portable Power Bank: $59.99

Few things can ruin a road trip like a dead battery. Attempting to flag down strangers for a jump isn't much fun, either. This jump starter kit brings its own power to the game, giving you enough juice to quickly get back up and running. This product was listed on eBay for $92.

Purell Hand Sanitizer and Wipes Kit: $17.99

On the road, a new batch of germs seems to emerge with every mile you put in the rearview mirror. With wipes and sanitizer you can fight back on both skin and car surfaces. Walmart advertised the same kit for $25.26.

Hoody’s Survivors Trail Mix (pack of four): $36.99

Trail mix conquers hunger pangs, frees up finite food budgets and provides calories for exhausted travelers — all without forcing you to resort to junk food. A few handfuls from this four-pack of 30-ounce jars — which include various nuts, seeds and sesame sticks — and you'll have enough carbs and protein to hold you over between meals without spending a fortune.

Port of Call Port of Call (Arrival, Departure)

Seattle, a city on Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, is surrounded by water, mountains and evergreen forests, and contains thousands of acres of parkland. Washington State’s largest city, it’s home to a large tech industry, with Microsoft and Amazon headquartered in its metropolitan area. The futuristic Space Needle, a 1962 World’s Fair legacy, is its most iconic landmark.

Puget Sound

Puget Sound itself is a body of water lying east of Admiralty Inlet, through which ocean waters reach inland some 50 miles from the Pacific Coast to provide all-weather ports for ocean-going ships at Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia.  The waterway is a complex and intricate system of channels, inlets, estuaries, embayments and islands. Common usage has broadened the Sound's description to include the surrounding lowlands extending east to the CascadeMountains and the various cities and towns lying therein.  Such usage also includes Whidbey, Camino, and Fidalgo islands as well as the Kitsap Peninsula.

Stephens Passage

Stephens Passage is a long stretch of dark water filling the gap between mountain ranges in Southeast Alaska. The water is deadly cold and rich with sea life. Fog and low clouds usually hang in the Passage, which is an arm of the Pacific. Fjords with emerald rivers pour in and it is lined with conifers, blue stone and rocky hollows. It rains often. It is indescribably beautiful. In Stephens Passage, on a chilly day, with low-hanging fog,here is what you can see: pods of Orca knifing through brackish inlets; humpback whales, their flukes high, plunging towards the ocean floor; clear water gushing from crevasses; a brown bear with three cubs scouring the beaches for salmon remains; blue glaciers calving into bays with rifle-shot thunder; harbor seal; bald eagles; hundreds of birds, their calls filling the air. The wilderness almost inviolate.

Considered the "gem" of Southeast Alaska, the city is nestled against the ocean, tucked tight against the mountains and back-dropped by the lush green of the largest national forest in the United States, the Tongass. Visitors will find that Juneau is not only the state's capital, but it's also a melting pot of history, unique topography and jaw-dropping scenery that is found nowhere else on the planet. Whether it's wildlife viewing, glacier trekking, ziplining or just shopping for locally created artwork, visitors to this remote yet extraordinary region will certainly find a bit of "Alaska" to take home.

Endicott Arm

Amid a forest of trees and a pristine mountain expanse you'll find a steep waterway otherwise known as Endicott Arm. The "arm" pierces 30 miles into the Coast Mountain Range offering up some spectacular sights for cruise passengers. Floating with you in Endicott Arm are 3-story pieces of ice that have "calved" (split) from the glaciers that line the waterway. Some of those chunks of ice are as long as a city block; some are as small as an ice cube. A visit to Endicott Arm proves that the best way to see and appreciate the wildlife and glaciers of Alaska is from the window or railing of your cruise ship. Keep those binoculars handy. As you move slowly and silently through the arm look for black and brown bears, mountain goats, wolverines, Sitka black-tailed deer, eagles, sea lions and harbor seals. Spectacular wildlife framed by glistening glaciers and blue, blue waters. Just another day in Alaska!

One look at lovely Sitka and you'll know why Alexander Baranof, governor of the Russian American Company, decided to build his "castle" here. With views of island-studded waters and stately spruce forests reaching to the water's edge, Sitka is considered Alaska's most beautiful seaside town. Sitka's past is a unique blend of Tlingit culture and Russian history. Our historic and scenic community is situated on Baranof Island, nestled between forested mountains and the great Pacific Ocean, on the outer waters of Alaska's Inside Passage. Sitka offers a combination of Native culture, Russian history, and Alaskan wilderness which will provide a diverse and unequaled experience. Wildlife adds to Sitka's natural beauty. Our mild climate, rich habitat and relatively low human population make Sitka one of the best places to view wildlife. Nearby waters are a popular feeding ground for humpback whales in the late fall and early spring. Summertime provides a wonderful opportunity to view tufted puffins and other sea birds at St. Lazaria National Wildlife Refuge. While out on the ocean, you may also spot sea otters, sea lions and other marine wildlife. Sitka lies at the heart of the largest temperate rain forest in the world, the Tongass National Forest. Enjoy the fresh outdoors on well-marked mountain trails. Take to the water for a picturesque boat trip or kayaking adventure among nearby islands or charter a boat to nearby fishing grounds to fish for world-class salmon and halibut.

Victoria/Canada

Victoria, capital of British Columbia, sits on the craggy southern end of Vancouver Island. With abundant parkland, it’s known for outdoor activities. The city's British colonial past shows in its Victorian architecture, including stately Craigdarroch Castle mansion. Butchart Gardens, with 55 acres of vivid floral displays, plus statuary, water features and a carousel, is one of many formal gardens in the city.
