Following a two-year postponement, The Lumineers will finally get to headline the home of the Colorado Rockies this summer as part of a 2022 tour behind new album “Brightside.”

The Denver-based band’s July 22 concert at Coors Field will also feature opening performances from acclaimed Colorado singer-songwriters Gregory Alan Isakov and Daniel Rodriguez (of Elephant Revival). The date is one of 15 rescheduled shows on the band’s larger, 48-date U.S. tour for “Brightside,” which was released on Jan. 14.

Originally scheduled for Aug. 29, 2020, this summer’s Coors Field show is also the only Colorado concert on The Lumineers’ tour roster through September.

“We were supposed to tour this past summer and fall and made a hard decision not to,” Lumineers singer Wesley Schultz told The Denver Post last month . “It felt like we were being pessimistic, but you could also read the tea leaves.”

Those leaves are looking greener as spring and summer approach, with the band’s upcoming tour taking them to some of the biggest stadiums, arenas, amphitheaters and music festivals in the country, May 18 through Sept. 25.

Coors Field will also host Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on Thursday, July 21 — incidentally the day before The Lumineers concert. That show was originally announced in December 2019 and scheduled for summer 2020.

Tickets for The Lumineers are $39-$149, according to Ticketmaster, and available now at mlb.com/rockies/tickets/concerts .

The Lumineers is a popular folk-rock band based in Denver, CO. Its spare, soulful sound draws inspiration from lyrical heartland rockers like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Petty. With every new show, The Lumineers prove that American folk music is alive and well in the 21st century.

In 2005, Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites worked together to form The Lumineers. The pair met and began making music together in Ramsey, NY. They moved to Brooklyn to pursue their dream of a music career, and later went to Denver. The band’s subsequent success was all thanks to its constant reinvention and collective desire to improve.

Over the years, The Lumineers gained more members like Neyla Pekarek, Maxwell Hughes, Ben Wahamaki, and Jay Van Dyke. Each new member contributed various musical skills and offered new creative twists to The Lumineers’ signature sound before its eventual departures. Despite the band’s ever-changing member lineup, the original founders Schultz and Fraites kept things fresh.

The band’s swift success began when “Ho Hey” hit radio waves in 2012. It differed from the usual pop-friendly tracks with its classic folk-rock twist. The single reached unbeatable heights on numerous charts across the globe and set up impending success for the band. Soon enough, The Lumineers’ unique self-titled record earned the group a Best New Artist nomination at the 2013 Grammys. It turned the tables on popular music and marked the beginning of a solid career.

After gaining well-deserved commercial success, The Lumineers geared up for more groundbreaking albums. Cleopatra followed in 2016, showcasing the band’s delightful versatility and proving its place in pop culture. Cleopatra sat comfortably at the top of the UK and U.S. charts and helped the band’s third full-length record III shake up its stellar discography.

III told a touching story of personal struggles, allowing The Lumineers to reach its full potential as a riveting band in 2019. Not only did it captivate fans with more creative diversity, but it stuck to the band’s original roots. III peaked at number 2 in the U.S., securing another incredible accomplishment for The Lumineers.

The Lumineers hit up 2022 with renewed vigor. Its fourth studio release, Brightside, breathed life into a promising record collection and proved the band was more polished than ever. It was no surprise, especially with Schultz and Fraites at the helm. True star power and lyrical storytelling weaved its way into each soulful track, shedding new light on The Lumineers’ music career.

Throughout its illustrious career, the band has maintained a revolutionary vision, building a cohesive collection of all-star albums while reinventing the folk-rock genre. Besides a game-changing discography, The Lumineers also liven things up with unifying concert experiences.

From Madison Square Garden to Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Lumineers make a home in every legendary venue. Fans can’t deny the band’s presence on stage, especially with its subtle sound reverberating throughout each smash song or low-key ballad. The Lumineers constantly represent incredible versatility without showing any signs of stopping. Ultimately, the band takes indie elements to the next level while capturing the magic of true lyricism.

Live reviews

First off, The Lumineers are one of my all time favourite bands. Watching them live was an amazing experience! The atmosphere they created in the small cozy venue made it feel like they were my friends playing up there, as if once they were done we could all sit and have a conversation. Their music in general makes me feel like this; it makes me feel at home.

Because they have only released one album, you could tell everyone knew every single song, which is always the best at a show because it felt as if the audience was so connected through it all. What was even better, was that the artists up on stage were feeding off of this community vibe to perform in a very honest kind of way with such passionate energy.

They were so comfortable with everything it made their music even more personal to me. At one point they even stopped playing to ask if everyone could put their cameras down and simply enjoy the moment and be with them in the music. And at another point during the show the lead singer (Wesley Schultz) stepped off stage, walking around the small crowd, to talk and sing acoustically with no microphones or anything electronic for a song. It was the most amazing experience I’ve had in any show, everyone crowded around Wesley listening to the purest form of music.

I’d highly recommend going to a Lumineers concert. Some seriously amazing band members who are very real, truthful, and down to earth. Not to mention, their music has the most balanced mix of instruments and lyrics that make you want to pay attention to every word. I’m really not just saying all this. I’m a real person who can honestly say the Lumineers’ concert was one of the best ones I’ve ever been to in my life.

I was introduced to the music of the Lumineers through one of my children who is now 20. On hearing this group for the very first time and then listening to their first album, I was taken aback with the exceptional talent and originality of this band.

Their sound is utterly unique, which is an incredibly hard thing to achieve with all the talented musicians of the current day and also of past years.

These three young musicians have made their own trademark sound - which is easily recognisable as "their" music.

For me, the lyrics of their songs are "deep" and intellectually superior to most lyrics of songs that we are all used to hearing. At the time their music is upbeat and, once heard, is not forgotten. Their music has intense energy!

If you are familiar with the Lumineers' music, then you will understand my appreciation and fascination with this band. The vocals are intense and strong - and appealing for all age groups.

I went along to the London concert with my sister and my younger daughter (age 14), and they had a great time at the concert.

The Lumineers poured their heart, soul and energy into their performance and their passion for what they have created could be clearly seen.

These three young, attractive and gifted musicians have everything that makes them stand out from the crowd. I am confident that this very special band will continue to develop their great music and grow further in popularity to music listeners not only in London but throughout other countries.

If you ever have the chance to listen to the Lumineers or get tickets to one of their concerts, don't pass up the opportunity - you will be hooked!!!!

It was a lot of fun getting to experience this eclectic music genre. I love classic rock, folk, blue grass, and the blues. The Lumineers seem to be a blend of all 4 genres that I find very appealing.

I loved their mourning of not doing house parties anymore so they came out and as middle of the audience they could and they sang a couple of songs. That is when we got to hear Neyla's voice on it's own. WOW! she has an asset they are under utilizing. Next album they need let her have more solos and add this dimension to their portfolio.

I especially love her cello playing and this is exactly why I love the Lumineers, I realized last night. The cello gives their music that something unique that makes them great. Wesley really needs to get humble and acknowledge better what she contributes. Without her they would be more run of the mill. Also then maybe she would look happy to be doing what she is doing. Come on guys her smile is beautiful and charming so make her smile more!

Not that the rest of the band isn't very talented...it is just the extra special difference and talent needs to be honored that has put them on the world stage.

I have never seen The Lumineers in concert before and I love their music so I was excited to finally see them. They came to the new Smart Financial Center in Sugar Land. I have never been to this venue before and I liked it. I will definitely be going back. The concert actually started on time, which was very surprising to me and I liked that very much. Susto was the first band to come out and play for us. I had never heard of them, but I enjoyed their music. Next was Kaleo, which I had never hear of either, but turns out I did know one of their songs. I really enjoyed seeing them perform. Finally, The Lumineers came out and it was great. They totally knew how to put on a show. They gave us back stories to the songs "Gun Song" and "Charlie Boy" that I did not know and I appreciated that. They talked to the crowd, told us how much they appreciate the fans, played all the songs the fans know, and even went into the middle of the audience to play a couple songs. I would definitely recommend people to see them because it is so worth it. I am very happy that I got the chance to see them. I left the show not wanting it to end.

Honestly, the Lumineers is not the kind of band I would see every year if I had the possibility to do so. The problem is that the sound exactly the same live and on their albums in my opinion. This, along with the huge arena venues they play in, makes the show feel like I'm listening to a record with 20,000 other people: impersonal. It's just not the kind of band you dance to with the crowd, for instance. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time, but a more intimate setting (though, judging their popularity, I don't think this will happen) would be much more appropriate.

One thing I did like: the singer and songwriter Wesley often interacts with the audience, and explains the personal stories that inspired the songs. He was on the brinks of tears when he told us that Long Way From Home was about his father's fight (and eventual demise) against cancer. These stories make you look at the songs in another light. Another surprise: Neyla (the cellist) has an amazing voice! They should give her a more prominent singing role.

All in all, 2.5/5

Wow. What an amazing show. It's such a cool experience to find a band in obscurity, and know they will soon be famous. That's how is was when I discovered the Lumineers in 2013...and they have only gotten better. Last night's concert was exactly why they are what they are. Original songwriting, perfect accompaniment, and the feeling and sound of a band that you met early that hasn't left their original sound. It is such an amazing experience to me, to find a band that you love...and just a few short years later they are headlining. When I stood in that audience, and listened to everyone sing lyrics along to every song....it's such a surreal experience.

Wes even made a point during the show, to mention how they started in people's living rooms, and that they like to get closer to their audience. They proceeded to leave the stage, walk through the crowd and play on a smaller stage, mid-crowd.

Absolutely amazing concert. One of the best I've ever been a part of. I can only say thank you to the band for such an amazing experience.

josiah78’s profile image

The most incredible concert! The lumineers are my favourite band, so I'm writing from the viewpoint of someone who knows all the words to every song! But even if you don't, the way the band interact with the audience and tell a story through their music is just amazing. On this tour I saw them at barrowlands in Glasgow and the usher hall in Edinburgh and the atmosphere was great in both. When you're in the audience you just know that you share the same love for their music as everyone around you and it's magical. In Edinburgh they managed to get the whole usher hall quiet and perform two songs without any microphones which they had never tried before but worked so well. The songs are powerful and most of them fairly slow, so it's not a raving concert to go to smashed and dance the night away, it's one to appreciate and to go to with your closest friends to enjoy some incredible music.

mollyporteous’s profile image

Totally worth going to their concert! I really appreciated it when the lead singer has to stop mid-song to apologize and tune his guitar. I also love his small anecdotes before some of the songs, and here I thought I could not love the songs more than I already do, but knowing where he got the inspiration from writing the songs made them absolute gold. And then I guess he noticed most of the audience were recording the show, so he made a deal with us where we are allowed us to film Ho Hey and then we were to put our phone away so we can fully enjoy the show. And everyone followed him! I did not see anyone using their phone, at all! (except the woman in front of me every now and then, but still)

All in all, they are definitely one of their favourite bands now. The other members are really amazing too!

P.S. I loved how their shirt are recycled.

Went to see the Lumineers at O2 Brixton last night. I was well familiar with the venue and like it. Standing for the young folks and seating for the ones that do not need to be smashed in a human jam sandwich to enjoy the concert.

The warm up act was ..... well lets just say that we are not running out to buy the album and the name already slips my mind.

The doors opened at 7. The Lumineers appeared at 9:10 and were promptly off the stage at 10:40. No encore performance. The music was incredible but crowd interaction was totally minimal and they were done after just getting started. This was a sold out show and unfortunately I did not get tickets at the normal price so felt a little cheated but at the end of the day, these are truly talented musicians who perform really well.

alison-d-martin’s profile image

When it comes to high tempo, high energy stompers, you can't go wrong with these three funsters from Colorado.

As usual, they went quite early with the big one ("Ho Hey") and Wes continues to encourage an actively engaged audience (over one watching through a camera lens), which leads to a far more attentive audience; indeed, by the big finish, there wasn't a man, woman or child who wasn't completely in to it.

The new album, being only 33 minutes long, proved easy to learn, with large swathes of the audience seemingly knowing most of the words to most of the songs, which again only added to the atmosphere. The trio of ladies ("Cleopatra", "Angela" and "Ophelia") all went down well with the crowd and the "Stubborn Love" finale was positively Luminescent. Outstanding fun.

The BRIGHTSIDE World Tour celebrates the recent arrival of the Lumineers’ eagerly anticipated new album,  BRIGHTSIDE , available now via Dualtone in the U.S. & Canada and Decca Records for the rest of the world. The 2x GRAMMY® Award-nominated band’s fourth studio album, BRIGHTSIDE includes such new favorites as “ A.M. RADIO ,” “ BIG SHOT ,” “ WHERE WE ARE ,” and the chart-topping first single and title track, “ BRIGHTSIDE ,” all joined by official music videos streaming now at  YouTube . “BRIGHTSIDE” recently made history by ascending to #1 on Billboard’s “Alternative National Airplay” and “Adult Alternative Airplay” charts – the band’s sixth time atop the latter ranking in less than 10 years. The Lumineers now boast the most #1 singles among all acts on that chart in the span since achieving their first AAA chart-topper in 2012.

Produced by longtime collaborator Simone Felice and produced, mixed, and engineered by David Baron over two sessions in winter and spring 2021 at Baron’s Sun Mountain Studios in bucolic Boiceville, NY, BRIGHTSIDE marks The Lumineers’ first new music in more than two years. The nine-song collection sees The Lumineers’ co-founders/co-songwriters Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites performing virtually all of the eclectic, effervescent instrumentation, with Baron on a wide variety of keyboards and backing vocals and more by Simone Felice, touring members Byron Isaacs and Lauren Jacobson, famed backing singer Cindy Mizelle (Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band), The Felice Brothers’ James Felice, and acclaimed singer-songwriter Diana DeMuth.

The folk rock band based in Denver and co-founded by Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites areworld renowned for their live show and raw style.

With their excellent second album, Cleopatra , taking off four years after they released the modern-day folk-rock classic, The Lumineers , in 2012, fans of Americana should take stock of a fabulous band fronted by Wesley Schultz and his principal songwriting partner, Jeremy Fraites. Though now based in Denver, Colorado, The Lumineers ’ origins lay in New Jersey and combined a mixture of initial tragedy and happenstance – of which more later.

Their debut, released in April 2012 via Dualtone Records/Dine Alone in North America, and on Decca in the UK and Germany, contains that essential feel-good earworm monster smash ‘Ho Hey’, a party anthem that characterised the summer of 2012 and reached multi-platinum status in the US and every major European territory. A measure of this onrushing whirlwind of a track can be seen in the fact that it was No.1 in the year-end charts on both the Billboard Adult Contemporary and Adult Top 40 charts; at its super-selling peak it figured in over 20 national Top 20s. However, the band’s straightforward and communal style doesn’t end with ‘Ho Hey’. The ensuing ‘Stubborn Love’ and ‘Submarines’ are further examples of their glorious blend of bittersweet Celtic licks and outrageously uplifting and punchy line in take-it-to-the-bridge choruses.

Cleopatra simply picks up and runs with the big acoustic Lumineers sound, in which Neyla Pekarek’s cello and vocals are a vital ingredient once more. Producer Simone Felice was a great choice for the second album. As a founding member of the legendary Felice Brothers, he proves to be both foil and mentor, given his own East Coast roots and the Felice boys’ role in revitalising the folk-rock movement in America, while staking their claim for a place in the Great American Songbook. It’s not so much a case of passing the baton, more one of maintaining a standard – and early release singles ‘Ophelia’ and ‘Angela’ show that The Lumineers are doing just that.

Best Earth Day Songs: 30 Save The Environment Classics

Childhood friends Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites were thrown together as musical teenagers following the tragic death of Josh Fraites, Jeremiah’s brother. Songwriting became a source of solace, and the duo expanded their vision with regular trips from Ramsey, New Jersey, into the city of New York, where they picked up gigs under such ad hoc names as Free Beer, 6Cheek and the catchy Wesley Jeremiah. At that stage it was the usual blend of covers and experimentation; gradually, originals began to seep in and a house style of sorts emerged.

On the other hand, New York wasn’t quite ready for them. Exhausting their local options they took a chance and swapped Brooklyn for Denver, soon hitching onto the open-mic scene at The Meadowlark, whose rowdy clientele helped hone their set with full audience participation: helpful considering that early shows consisted of two voices, plus a guitar and tambourine, though their trademark clothing – down-home scruff, simple tees and suspenders – gave them a “look”.

Working hard on a collection of increasingly cool songs, the boys hooked up with Neyla Pekarek via a Craigslist ad and released a home-recorded EP. ‘Ho Hey’ was one of their first efforts and always proved to be a crowd-pleaser. As its absurdly catchy refrain began filtering to the airwaves it also became a kind of acoustic answer to Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’, and in early 2012, Seattle DJ John Richards began blasting it out twice a day on his KEXP-FM show.

A deal with Dualtone/Dine Alone/Decca ensued, and The Lumineers self-titled debut dropped on a curious public and then began to fly. No doubt the irresistible momentum of ‘Ho Hey’ was a catalyst – the official video has notched up nearly 150 million hits – and was shared, downloaded and passed along by word of mouth until it seemed that the whole of America was humming along, but the quality of the rest of the album stands up to scrutiny. Working with producer Ryan Hadlock, The Lumineers reclaimed the acoustic-driven disc for a modern audience and also delighted older-timers who shared the group’s enthusiasm for the likes of Talking Heads, Bob Dylan , Bruce Springsteen , Tom Petty and Leonard Cohen. Those kindred spirits helped launch staggering sales and threatened to deplete stocks of platinum. We recommend the album be discovered with Deluxe Version bonus tracks, including a tasty version of Talking Heads’ ‘This Must Be the Place (Naïve Melody)’ (originally recorded for the great Speaking In Tongues album of 1983. Here you’ll also find a live version of fan favourite ‘Slow It Down’ and two of their on-trend girl-name songs – ‘Elouise’ and ‘Darlene’.

The Lumineers were extremely savvy, making a piece of work that was never too big for its scuffed boots, meaning it all works perfectly well live without much more tinkering. The combination of guitars, ukulele, cello, keyboards, various stringed instruments (courtesy of Stelth Ullvang) and the rock-solid rhythm bed of Fraites’ drums and Ben Wahamaki’s electric bass translate from home stereos to worldwide stages without skipping a beat. The inevitable and enjoyable round of world touring made The Lumineers’ point as they reached out to everyone from New Orleans to Chalk Farm, London. Crowds were smitten and resistance was futile.

A measure of their standing can also be seen by the use of their music for ‘The Hanging Tree’ in blockbuster film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 , where starring actress Jennifer Lawrence turns in a sweet vocal performance. Another new song is the sidestepping and haunting ‘Visions Of China’, as featured on the horror drama TV series The Walking Dead : a great cult item for zombie lovers.

A change of bassist brought in Byron Isaacs in 2016, though Ben Wahamaki worked on Cleopatra . Of the new album, Schultz stated via Instagram: “Well folks, we are back in the studio, chippin away at some new ideas. It’s been one hell of a ride so far and we are excited to be writing again. Thanks and stay tuned.” The songs were, he added wryly penned tales “from the frontline of life in a real-world behind the veil of pop illusions, of everyday hopes and busted dreams”. (The album cover is an evocative black-and-white photograph of actress Theda Bara in the title role of the silent movie Cleopatra (1917).)

Though they are the first to emphasise the fact that they are not reinventing the wheel – and nor are they trying to – The Lumineers certainly make it spin like a dream. Not everyone can do what they do: as they say, it takes hard work to make it sound this easy.

With acoustic music not only back in the room, but actually holding centre-stage, The Lumineers are ideally situated to entertain us all. As for the happenstance alluded to above: it turns out they got their name when sharing billing with another act called Lumineers. The MC mistakenly appropriated it for Wes and Jer – and, ho hey, the rest is history.

The stage is the star at Lumineers' first Moody Center concert

lumineers tour colorado

How many concerts have you been to where the star of the show was the set design?

Not to take anything away from Saturday night’s performance at the Moody Center by Colorado folk-rock band the Lumineers, who thrilled a nearly sold-out crowd with a nearly two-hour performance drawing from the four albums they’ve released since 2012. But what made the show stand out was the shape of the stage, and how the band members used it.

Jutting out from the usual stage at the Moody Center’s west end were two long runways that joined together at about the midpoint of the arena floor. The runways encircled a standing-room-only pit where a few hundred concertgoers got an up-close view of the action. Back on the main stage, a tastefully designed array of lights and video screens, dominated by a circular video display in the center, further enhanced the look and feel of the show.

“Runways” is the operative word: Band and crew members frequently dashed down both sides of the extensions between songs and sometimes during them, occasionally making a full-circuit loop. The show began with frontman Wesley Schultz and percussionist Jeremiah Fraites, who co-founded the band in New Jersey in 2005 before moving to Denver, rising from platforms near the far end of each runway.

More from the Moody Center: Our review of James Taylor's summer 2022 concert

Keyboardist Stelth Ulvang, violinist Lauren Jacobson, bassist Bryron Isaccs and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Miller — held court back on the main stage as the band launched into “Brightside,” the title track of the band’s latest album. But they didn’t stay there for long. By the end of the second song, the title track to 2016’s “Cleopatra,” Jacobson and Isaacs were at the end of the runway with Schultz and Frates.

By then, the crowd was already joyfully singing along. The band raised the ante with its third song by pulling out “Ho Hey,” the debut single that jump-started the Lumineers’ career a decade ago. Now all six members were out at the end of the runway, alternately playing to the crowd in the stands and to those fortunate few inside the runway-encircled pit.

“Ho Hey” came out of nowhere to reach No. 3 on the U.S. pop charts in 2012, helping the group’s self-titled debut go platinum. Chartwise, they’ve never really matched the massive success of that first hit. But they’ve continued to release albums and EPs that have sold well, and they’ve earned a reputation as an impressive live act. (It was not for nothing that U2 hand-picked them to open some shows on its 2017 stadium tour, including the Texas stops in Houston and Arlington.)

More music: Our interview with Texas singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett

The Lumineers’ lineup has evolved a bit over the years, the most notable change being the addition of Jacobson on violin and keyboards after the 2018 departure of cellist Neyla Pekarek. While guitarist and lead singer Schultz is the central figure — he writes the band’s lyrics, and collaborates with Fraites on the music — he’s not necessarily the focus onstage, in part because his bandmates have such lively performance styles.

Foremost among them is Ulvang, who made his dashes up and down the runway barefoot. Switching between an electronic keyboard and an upright piano, Ulvang was a livewire of energy all night, especially when he “surfed” the upright, precariously balancing his body on the piano’s top shelf as if he were suspended in midair.

Musically, the group’s appeal may depend upon how much listeners connect with the wave of anthemic folk-rock ushered in by acts such as Mumford & Sons and the Avett Brothers a few years before the Lumineers arrived on the scene. The songs are mostly simple structures both lyrically and musically; it’s up to the band’s performances to make them come alive onstage, and most of the time, it works.

Near the end of the main set — before a somewhat anticlimactic four-song encore that included a reprise of “Brightside” (not to be confused with the Killers’ massive 2004 hit “Mr. Brightside”) — the band brought out opening act James Bay for a cameo on “Gale Song.” In some respects, it revealed Schultz’s limitations: He’s a good singer, but Bay is spectactular by comparison, with far more emotional range in his voice.

More: Our 2016 interview with James Bay

Bay was a solid choice to open the show. The 31-year-old English singer-songwriter, who taped an episode of “Austin City Limits” in 2016 and also has appeared at ACL Fest , played a 40-minute set with a four-piece backing crew. Drawing material from each of his three albums, including the new “Leap” released last month, Bay struck an ideal balance between melodic songcraft and rock & roll energy centered on his engaging voice and memorable guitar riffs.

The Lumineers to Host Colorado Gives Back Livestream Event

By Claire Shaffer

Claire Shaffer

The Lumineers are lending their home state of Colorado a helping hand with a livestream fundraiser, Colorado Gives Back, to take place Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET on the band’s YouTube channel .

The all-star lineup will feature the Denver-based group and other musical guests including OneRepublic , Jewel and Nathaniel Rateliff , as well as former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, two-time Olympic gold medal skier Mikaela Shiffrin and Colorado Governor Jared Polis.

The livestream is meant to help benefit Colorado musicians and restaurant workers who have lost their source of income and revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic. Donations will be directed to the Colorado Restaurant Association and to the Recording Academy’s MusiCares. Through the Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief project, Spotify will match all donations, dollar-for-dollar to MusiCares up to a collective total of $10 million.

“In addition to raising money for Colorado restaurant workers, we as Colorado musicians wanted to raise money to not only support our local crew that we tour the world with but also all the folks in the music business as a whole — from the venue workers to fellow musicians,” Wesley Schultz of the Lumineers said. “MusiCares once saved us when we were robbed in 2011 by helping us buy back our stolen instruments when we were an unknown band. So anyone from a sound guy who needs dental work to a stagehand that needs a medical procedure — this fund is for the people that make up the music business and are in need of financial help. We hope that this can help those that are struggling to get by to see the other side of this — when the touring starts up again and the crews and venue workers, the lifeblood of the music business, finally can get back to work.”

Meet executive music producer francesca fraites: take risks to succeed.

Francesca and Jeremiah Fraites working in Gregory’s studio, Colorado.

The music industry is still competing for gender equality within the recording studios. Even half a century ago, it was uncommon for women to take the lead at the mixing board. Just recently, more women have been credited as executive producers.

According to a study on representation and equality in the music industry by Statista, only 3.4% of producers were female, while approximately 96.6% were male. While the share of female music producers doubled between 2018 and 2019, this trend reversed in 2020, leaving a significant gap in terms of proportionate representation.

Meet debut executive music producer Francesca Lazzarin Fraites. She took the lead on her husband’s, Jeremiah, cofounder of the Grammy-nominated band The Lumineers, second solo album Piano Piano 2. She’s trailblazing in the instrumental sector; for her, it’s about speaking up, building trust and taking risks .

“You need to show people that you feel comfortable and love what you’re doing,” Francesca states. “We are in an era where social media, streaming and all the platform numbers are very important. We acknowledge that numbers are important because playing in a sold-out venue is amazing. But to play or create for numbers, if numbers is the only purpose, I think you can feel detached from the art. It’s very important to know that when you build something, it’s not going to be perfect. One of my favorite lyrics from this Italian guy I worked for says, ‘Building means to give up this idea of perfection.’ It’s one of my favorite quotes because that applies to anything in this life.”

The Best Romantic Comedy Of The Last Year Just Hit Netflix

Apple iphone 16 unique all new design promised in new report, rudy giuliani and mark meadows indicted in arizona fake electors case.

Francesca grew up in Italy. While studying at university, she worked in the music industry on the live events side. While touring, she met the Lumineers’ Italian promoter. He started a festival, which The Lumineers headlined. He asked Francesca if she wanted to work on it.

She and Jeremiah met and started dating. Moving to the States ten years ago became the most significant pivot of her personal and professional life; she had to build her life again from scratch.

“I had to reshape my identity as a person because everything was new,” she shares. “I had to learn a different language. I had to try to fit into this new culture. I had to study to get my driver’s license again. So, it felt like I was reborn.”

Jeremiah and Francesca Fraites virtually recording the orchestra for the Piano Piano album.

Once she passed the driving test, she began working for AEG Worldwide, a sports and live entertainment company. Since her English wasn’t up to par yet, they offered her a runner position, which meant she would assist with any of the driving needs of touring and events. Additionally, she taught Italian on the side. Once Francesca became pregnant, she took time off to raise their kids.

During that transitional moment between her two pregnancies, Francesca recorded a podcast called in giro con Fra for Lemonada media, where she told her personal story of how she managed her life between family and tour life with The Lumineers. She interviewed guests from all over the world with similar lifestyles, and in 2022, she won two awards for it: a Lovie award for Best Talk Show and a Gracie award for Best Non-English Podcast.

Meanwhile, Jeremiah worked on his first solo album, Piano Piano, during the pandemic . Francesca explains, “I came up with the title P iano Piano because the piano is the instrument, but in Italian piano piano together, it means little by little, step by step. It took ten years for Jer to collect all these ideas. And I said, ‘It’s probably the best way to describe the whole process.’”

While recording the first album, Francesca mentioned to Jeremiah that drums should be added to one of the tracks. He became a little hesitant. A week passed, and he and record producer David Baron finally added the drums to one of the songs.

“Fast forward to the second album,” Jeremiah comments. “It wasn’t even something we talked about. It was just assumed she was going to work on it. This time, it felt right to give credit where credit was due, not because she’s my wife, but because she has great creative ideas that I actually use. I always think it’s important to credit people where credit’s due. In hindsight, I wish I had bestowed that upon her on the first one because that’s what she earned and deserved. But this time, I wanted to make it official.”

As Francesca continues to evolve in her new profession, she focuses on the following essential steps:

  • Build trust, not just personally but professionally, too. For her and Jeremiah, it took them listening to one another creatively and opening space to give and receive feedback.
  • Take the risk. You’ll never know if you can excel if you don’t try something new.
  • Use creativity to present yourself to the world; vulnerability allows you to share a relatable story.

“Everything started because we are often on the same page, not only on the music taste but also on the goal and what we wanted to communicate,” Francesca concludes. “I say to Jer, ‘When you present something to the world, you need to present yourself because it’s like a self-portrait. You need to show people that you feel comfortable and love what you’re doing.’”

New national tour of "Company" brings modern take on classic tale to Denver Center for the Performing Arts

By Dillon Thomas

Updated on: April 24, 2024 / 6:19 PM MDT / CBS Colorado

The national tour of "Company,' visiting the Denver Center for the Performing Arts next month, promises to bring audiences a new take on a classic musical. The show, which plays at the Buell Theatre from May 22 through June 2, has been redesigned to make the story more applicable to modern audiences.

The show, which was first written in the late 1960s, originally followed the story of a man named Bobby. Bobby was a single man who had not been married nor had any children.

Now, this new version of the production follows the story of a woman named Bobbie who has a similar lifestyle.

"The societal pressures for women today, turning 35 especially without children, are very different than an unmarried man," said Britney Coleman, the actress cast as "Bobbie."

Bobbie is a woman who is celebrating her 35th birthday in the production.

"It would be like any other birthday if it weren't for the fact that she is single, doesn't have any kids, isn't in any committed relationship. And yet all of her very close friends are, and they have strong opinions about it," Coleman said.

Coleman said the storyline is one that she can personally connect with, and one which she feels many in the audience will be able to as well.

"I have personally experienced a lot of people saying, 'hmm, it is about time (to get married and have children), isn't it?'" Coleman said.

Matt Rodin, the actor who portrays "Jamie" in the production, said the new take on the gender of characters has modernized the story in a way more people will be able to relate with.

"It is sort of shocking to see how these men treat these women (in the original production). To now have that flipped on its head, it makes it feel like it is happening right now," Rodin told CBS News Colorado's Dillon Thomas. "It gives us, the audience in 2024, the opportunity to know these people in a way that we might not recognize them if they were playing the same roles in the 1970s. They are contemporized."

Those who loved the original production should still find the current take to be funny, fun and lively, according to Coleman.

"A lot of our script hasn't changed, other than the pronouns," Coleman said.

"What I love about this show is that it poses questions rather than giving us answers of what it means to be in partnership, what it means to be married, what it means to have relationships," Rodin said.
