Traveling doesn’t mean having to step foot in a frenzied airport. In fact, there’s never been a better time to go camping. With the right travel trailer, you can easily leave the city behind without having to deal with anyone other than your nearest and dearest. Today’s featured-packed caravans are nothing like those you rode in as a kid, either. Not only do they look good, but they’re packed with enough luxury features that you’ll feel right at home, no matter where you are.

We’re also at the point where there’s a trailer for practically every kind of camper, regardless of what vehicle they drive. If you’re the kind of person who likes the classics, there are multiple aluminum-sided Airstream and Bowlus models to choose from. Want to bring as much of your home on the road with you? How about Living Vehicle or Land Ark’s mammoth condos on wheels? There are also caravans you can take off-road with your 4×4 and ultra-light and compact models you can tow with an EV. Some can even be turned into a mobile office if you want to mix work and play. Below are 15 travel trailers that will allow you to take to the road in just about any way you can imagine.

If you want a better understanding of how far travel trailers have come over the decades, just look at the Living Vehicle lineup. The Santa Barbara-based company’s boxy trailers are basically mini apartments you can take with you on the road. Our favorite might be the new HD24, which is far from the company’s biggest offering, but comes with all the amenities you could need at the campground—and then some.

The all-electric model, which starts at $299,995, may measure only 24 feet, but its minimalist interior still has more than enough for a bedroom, kitchen, entertainment area, and a bathroom with a dedicated shower. One particularly clutch feature is a five-by-eight-foot multi-purpose space that can be used as an office, guest room, or laundry room. If that wasn’t enough, the top-of-the-line Pro variant has a solar-assisted power system that can keep the trailer running for up to a month off the grid.

Special Features:   —Trailer can be configured to include a laundry room, office, or guest room. —Interior has a clean minimalist look and comes packed with premium amenities. —Range-topping Pro version’s power system produces enough energy for 30 days of off-the-grid living,

It may not be the most famous shiny caravan maker—that would be Airstream—but Bowlus is the company that gave us the first riveted travel trailer. The company, which was revived in 2014, knows not to mess with a good thing, so its well-regarded trailers—like our favorite, the  Endless Highways Performance Edition —look just like those it produced in the 1930s, only bigger and with better materials (think: alclad aluminum for the exterior and birchwood for the interior).

Despite its classic look, the $225,000 trailer has all the conveniences you expect in 2022, including heat and air-conditioning systems, a WiFi modem and plenty of outlets for charging all your smart devices. Best of all, though, might be a lithium iron phosphate that gives you the ability to live off the grid for two peaceful weeks. If you’re an animal lover, there’s also the  Terra Firma , which features a bunch of Fido-friendly features like a built-in food bowl, pet bed and remote temperature control system.

Special Features:  —Thee’s a double-sided indoor galley and an outdoor cooking area with electric and propane outlets. —The hotel-style shower has teak flooring and seating. —Lithium iron phosphate power system can keep the entire trailer running for up to two weeks.

Mammoth Overland’s latest model is a burly off-road trailer designed to withstand anything it encounters in nature. The appropriately named Extinction Level Event (ELE) rides on a set of chunky all-terrain tires and has an angular aluminum body reinforced with steel armor and skid plates. If that doesn’t sound like enough, you can upgrade to Level 3 bullet-proof armor. There’s also a built-in bear spray system too, for added security. The ELE, which starts at $67,000, is pretty compact since it’s a tear-drop trailer, but it can comfortably sleep two and has an integrated workstation inside its cabin. There’s also a swing-out kitchenette in the back for cooking.

Special Features:   —Comes with a built-in bear spray system and is available with bullet-proof armor. —Despite its compact size, the interior cabin still has room for a built-in workstation. —The swing-out kitchenette isn’t big, but has everything you need to cook a delicious meal.

Best Overall: Airstream Globetrotter

One brand leaps to mind when most of us think about travel trailers—Airstream. Its iconic aluminum-sided caravans have been instrumental in popularizing road trips and  camping  in the US for decades. One need only look at the company’s  Globetrotter  model to see why: In addition to looking beautiful, the silver-covered caravan is packed with creature comforts to keep you traveling comfortably. It’s not the brand’s largest model—that would be the flagship  Classic —but it’s available with one of six different floor plans, each of which has room for a spacious entertainment area (that can sleep up to four adults).

Inside you’ll find a full-featured kitchen, half-bathroom, shower and sizable bedroom with either a queen-sized bed or two twins. As you would expect from Airstream, the amenities are top-rate, too, like Franke faucets in the kitchen and bathroom, stainless steel appliances, Quietstream climate control system and multiple LG LED TVs. The Globetrotter starts at $120,000. If it doesn’t fit the bill, the brand has plenty of other models to choose from, including collaboration editions like the  extra-homey Pottery Barn Edition  or their  ultra-rare Supreme edition .

Special Features: —There are different floor plans to choose from, each of which features a full kitchen, half bathroom and dedicated shower. —The Quietstream climate control system barely makes a peep, even when the heater or A/C is running. —A built-in canopy provides shade when you want to spend time outside.

Good things come to those who wait. More than a decade after it was first announced, the Romotow T8 is finally available to order. The 30.5-foot caravan, which was designed by New Zealand-based architecture and design firm W2, has two main components—a fixed chassis and a smaller living space that fits just inside of it. When the $268,500 trailer is parked, the cabin slides out at the touch of a button and can be rotated 90 degrees like a swiveling USB stick. When rotated like this, the hydraulic-powered chassis can then be used as a patio. While this unique design may be the vehicle’s main selling point, its interior cabin comes with all the features you need and has enough room for six adults.

Special Features:   —Unique rotating design is unlike anything else currently on the trailer market. —The living area is large enough to sleep up to six adults. — Hydraulic patio comes with an integrated deck set.

The  Escapod Topo2  is a trailer for anyone looking to take their camping trip off road with minimal fuss. The brand’s update of the classic teardrop trailer is an off-road-friendly model without any of the bulk. Unlike most of the trailers on this list, Escapod’s bedroom and kitchen area are separated from one another. The dedicated sleeping area has room for a queen-size mattress and is equipped with a stargazer window so you can really take in the peace and quiet of the great outdoors. The galley, meanwhile, is only accessible from outside the $39,500 trailer, but has ample counter space for meal prep and cooking. Both sections get their power from a VPR 4EVER lithium ion battery with some solar panels to help keep things running smoothly and efficiently.

Special Features: —Exterior is made from a single-piece of composite fiberglass that is rugged and weather-resistant. —Laser-cut tube steel frame should last for years. —Bedroom’s stargazer window offers up a beautiful view of your surroundings.

It was only a matter of time until the  electric revolution  made its way to the world of trailers and campers.  Retreat Caravan and OzXcorp’s ERV  is a rugged trailer that also happens to run entirely on battery power. Roof-mounted solar panels provide juice for a 14.3-kWh lithium battery that keeps the trailer’s many appliances running. And while the trailer is perfectly equipped for some off-road fun, thanks to a specially tuned suspension and all-terrain tires, it also packs all of the comforts of a luxe hotel room inside, including a bathroom, spacious seating area and master bedroom suite with a king-sized bed and closets. But the true highlight may be the $75,000 caravan’s full-size kitchen, which features an induction cooktop, fridge and washing machine. There’s also a Weber electric barbecue and slow cooker for making your meals outdoors.

Special Features: —Solar panels and 14.3-kWh battery power the trailer and let you go off grid. —A specially tuned suspension and large all-terrain tires let you go off-road. —The primary bedroom has enough room for a king-size bed and its own closets.

Are you looking for an aluminum-sided trailer that looks like more than just another Airstream or Bowlus’s rip-off? If so, the  Eriba Touring 820  might fit the bill. The company’s top-of-the-line caravan updates the classic silver bullet look with a retro-futuristic shape and details. Even more impressive, though, is the 27-foot-trailer’s interior. The company has packed it full of luxury amenities like a sizable, leather-covered lounge area (that can be converted into a bed), customizable mood lighting and a surprisingly fashionable bathroom. The true highlight, though, is a bedroom with a large panoramic window that offers up a gorgeous views of your surroundings. That’s good, too, since you might not actually want to leave the $88,500 trailer.

Special Features: —The kitchen has a mini wine cellar for keeping your best bottles at the ready. —The leather-upholstered entertainment area can be converted into an additional sleeping area at night. —Adjustable mood lighting will help you feel at home no matter where you are.

Almost more of a portable house than a trailer, the  Land Ark Drake  basically lets you take all the comforts of home on the road. The gigantic, yet stylish, two-level, 357-square-feet trailer can comfortably sleep seven adults. Stark and modern on the outside, the trailer features an equally clean white-washed pine and black metal decorated interior. Across its two floors, it has room for a full-sized kitchen, living room and bathroom (which includes a bathtub), along with two loft bedrooms and an office which can also be converted to a sleeping area. Its $139,000 starting price may sound a lot for a trailer, but for a two-story house on wheels it’s not that bad.

Special Features: —The two-level design means you have 357-square-feet of space. —Downstairs bathroom includes a tub for when you need to take a relaxing soak. —It has a primary bedroom and two loft-style sleeping areas.

There are plenty of EV-friendly travel trailers on the market at this point, but none are nicer to an electric powertrain than the Pebble Flow, which starts at $109,000. The futuristic vehicle is available with an optional propulsion that includes two electric motors—one situated on each wheel—to help make sure its 6,200-pound weight isn’t eating up all your battery-powered vehicle’s range. That’s far from the Flow’s only forward-thinking feature though. The trailer also comes with an “Instacamp” system that can be used to park the vehicle and set up camp (which includes leveling out the vehicle, deploying its staircase, and turning on the lights). The unique feature can also be triggered remotely via Pebble’s smartphone app.

Special Features:   —An optional propulsion system means it can even be towed by EVs. —Unique “Instacamp” system allows you to park the vehicle remotely via the company’s smartphone app. — Solar-assisted battery pack produces enough power for a week of off-the-grid living.

There are EV-friendly trailers and then there’s  Colorado Teardrops’s Boulder . Not only is the company’s latest designed to be towed by a battery-powered SUV or truck, it can also charge your EV’s battery. That ability comes courtesy a 75-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a built-in DC fast charger that will give you some much needed peace of mind out on the open road. At the very least, it gives you the freedom to come up with a route centered around sights instead of charging stations. Aside from this very vital feature, the compact caravan has everything two adults and two children need to live off the grid for a for a few days, including a comfortable queen-sized mattress, two bunk beds (for the kids), an enclosed kitchenette and an optional climate control system. The $55,000 trailer also comes in a variety of two-tone color schemes that all look pretty sharp.

Special Features: —Doesn’t just ease the burden on your EV’s battery; it can charge it, too. —A unique bunk-bed design creates room for four people to sleep (two adults and two children). —The enclosed kitchenette has plenty of counter space.

A big trailer can be a godsend on the campground, especially if you’re traveling with family or friends. The problem, of course, is getting the hulking vehicle there. No matter how experienced the driver, maneuvering a large caravan can be very tricky. Luckily there are trailers like  Hunter Nature’s Raptor XC . The brand’s angular model looks compact but features a pull-out section that just about doubles the size of its interior. When it’s fully extended you’ll have more than enough room for a dedicated living area, kitchen and bedroom. This will come in handy if there’s more than two in your traveling party, too. That’s because the $44,000 trailer’s entertainment area can easily be converted into an additional sleeping area at night.

Special Features: —An expanding segment turns this trailer into a multi-room cabin. —The bedroom has a large skylight so you can see the stars at night. —A spacious lounge can be converted into an additional sleeping area if you need more room.

Best for Design Obsessives: X-Cabin300

Silver trailers don’t all need to be bullet-shaped as nice as the classic Airstream may look. Just take a gander at the X-Cabin300. The all-aluminum vehicle has a boxy shape that looks both classic and modern. The Japanese-made caravan is compact, but comes with four different interior layouts designed to meet your varied needs (it can even be used as a food truck). The $50,000 trailer is smaller than most—it measures just seven feet tall, seven feet wide, and 15 feet long—and only tips the scales at 1,650 pounds, which means a compact SUV can even tow it. 

Special Features:   —A refreshing spin on the classic all-aluminum travel trailer. —Available with four different interior layouts. —Small and light enough to be towed by a compact SUV.

It can be hard to find a trailer that fits everyone’s needs, but the  Taxa Mantis  comes close. Its no-nonsense design means it fits with nearly anyone’s style. Thanks to a pop-up roof section, ingenious use of space and plenty of storage compartments, the Mantis has all the room you and your friends and family need to camp in comfort, which can be crucial on longer trips. It’s also got all the necessary features, including a bathroom with a built-in shower, water heater, kitchenette and 8,000 BTU air conditioner. The trailer, which starts at $46,000, is ideal for off-roading, but there’s a  special Overland edition  if you want something even more rugged.

Special Features: —A pop-up roof means you don’t have to sleep in the kitchen if you don’t want to. —There’s a built-in water heater and climate control system with a 8,000 BTU air conditioner. —It comes with a built-in canopy for outdoor hangouts.

Imagine if you didn’t need a truck or SUV to tow your trailer. You don’t if the caravan in question is Happier Camper’s compact  HC1 . The Los Angeles-based outfit’s smallest model is as light as they come, with a dry weight of just 1,100 pounds, meaning it can be towed by practically any car, even a modern-day Mini Cooper. It features a semi-modular interior designed by Adaptiv that can be customized to fit your camping style—components snap in like Legos—with either a full kitchen or enough sleeping room for up to five people. You can even add solar panels if you want to go off the grid. The $34,450 trailer’s old-school design is also sure to stand out on practically any campground. Even better, no pickups needed.

Special Features: —At only 1,100 pounds, it can be towed by just about any car. —The semi-modular floor plan allows you to arrange the interior to accommodate your camping style. —The larger rear hatch opens up space when you are entertaining.

Coachmen encore 375rb.

If you’re looking for a motorhome with all the comforts of home and plenty of space to stretch out, our pick is the Encore 375RB from Coachmen RV . Need a Class C motorhome with a powerful diesel engine, four-wheel drive, and plenty of towing capacity? Meet the 2022 Magnitude 4×4 Super Class C RV from Thor Motor Coach. The Magnitude XG32 is built on a Ford F-550 chassis with a 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo diesel engine. Thor also included several safety features and a backup camera so you can travel any road with confidence.

The Magnitude XG32 floorplan is ready for you to relax with theatre seating, a dream dinette, and queen size bed. If you’re bringing the family, you’ll appreciate the full-size pantry and over-cab bunk (500 lb. weight capacity). There’s also a massive, powered sky view shade that you can control from your phone or tablet. Open it when you’re ready to enjoy the views and close for privacy. Nexus Rebel 35R

The next new RV on our list is another 4×4 Super Class C – the Nexus Rebel . This diesel motorhome was made for touring the country in ultimate style. It sits on an International chassis and is powered by 350HP Duramax engine with 700 ft. lbs. of torque for power you can feel! You’ll also be able to tow more with a hitch rated at 15,000 lbs.

Nexus is known for its high construction standards and this RV is no exception with a seamless wrap around fiberglass roof and seamless gelcoat fiberglass sidewalls. Other upgraded features of the Nexus Rebel include slide-out toppers throughout, heated and enclosed holding tanks, a water filtration system, and a 6.0 Onan diesel generator that will help you enjoy your travels. Another lightweight, affordable option is the Aliner Expedition . This A-frame pop-up camper is great for solo travelers, adventurous couples, or young families. It weighs less than 2,000 lbs. and measures 18 feet long so it’s easy to tow. Each Aliner is constructed with Azdel wall and ceiling panels and premium marine grade flooring for added durability.

We loved the versatility of the floorplan with a rear sofa bed. It comfortably sleeps up to four. Meal prep is simple thanks to the two burner stove, sink, and 3 cu. ft. refrigerator. Plus, there is even a microwave for those nights when you don’t feel like cooking. The front booth dinette is great for enjoying a meal, playing games, or catching up on emails. It converts into a 40 x 80-inch bed. There’s also hidden storage under the seats. Best of all, the Expedition has several windows so you can take in all the views wherever you roam.

Must-See new RVs for 2022: Lightweight Travel Trailers

Coachmen clipper ultra-lite 17fqs.

Ultra lightweight and affordable, the Coachmen Clipper 17FQS is a great option for young families just beginning their RV adventures. This travel trailer weighs in at less than 3,500 lbs. If you plan on driving through rugged terrain that would require 4WD, you should invest in a trailer with generous ground clearance and off-road tires , and consider an articulating hitch to prevent toppling over on uneven terrain. Sturdier tires can also provide better traction on slick roads with snow or rain.

The ground clearance of the off-road models on our list range from 1.5 to 1.9 feet on the Timberleaf Classic Teardrop Trailer , Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper , Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 , and Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Overland .

When we take a close look at tires, the TigerMoth Overland is outfitted with the 225/75R16 ( Cooper Tires Discoverer AT3 LT ), offering a tread guard against rocks and gravel, extreme durability, and solid grip on wet roads or trails.

By comparison, the Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB has Goodyear Endurance ST225/75R15 Tires, which are great for towing stability and a high load capacity but are not ideal for rough terrain.

Sleep Space

At a minimum, our favorite compact travel trailers offer space for two people to sleep. A portion of these designs include cabins with a nonconvertible queen-size bed. Other trailer designs have options for a couch-to-bed conversion, like the TigerMoth Overland or Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 , or a structure that supports a rooftop tent.

The larger travel trailers on our list feature a range of comfortable overnight options. The designs range from daytime couches and fold-down Murphy beds to bunk beds to dinettes that transform into a bed. If you’re a taller or wider person, pay attention to the specific bed size.

For instance, the Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306BHS has a full queen-size mattress, whereas some trailers will have a narrower queen-size mattress. The Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306BHS also has a bunk bed that can fold up, so more space is available for storage when the bed isn’t needed.

Also, not all mattresses are created equal. The pad in the TigerMoth Overland is firm with no cushion or give. However, the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 features a high-density memory foam mattress, and the Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB has a pillow-top memory foam mattress.

A handful of the tidiest travel trailers have indoor space that’s solely dedicated to a queen-size bed and cubbies. Other tight trailers have beds that convert into a daytime couch or even have a table that can be easily installed. We like that even when the couch is pulled down into a bed in the TigerMoth Overland , there’s still a space to pull our shoes on and off.

Many trailers include an awning, which becomes a gem when you consider how much more space everyone will have to lounge out of the sun and rain at camp. Larger travel trailers typically have indoor sofas and dining tables that often convert into a bed.

Pricier, larger travel trailers have indoor kitchens with a range of features. Inside, you’ll often find a microwave, refrigerator, freezer, oven, sink, two- or three-burner stove, cabinets, countertop space, and dining table.

More compact, less expensive travel trailers have outdoor kitchens, and there’s a variety of unique designs. A galley organizes the kitchen area on the back of the rig, like on the Timberleaf Classic Off-Road Teardrop Trailer .

Other designs have pull-out drawers or fold-down units with the pantry, stove, sink, or countertop like the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 or the Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer .

The spacious travel trailers on our list have indoor bathrooms with a toilet and standup shower. Tinier travel trailers don’t have an indoor bathroom, but a handful have an outdoor shower head with warm water hookups like the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 and Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper .

If your camper trailer doesn’t have an indoor bathroom and you’re posted up in a remote place, be sure to research that location’s human waste and Leave No Trace requirements — whether that means digging a cathole or using a WAG bag.

Interior Storage

Interior storage space is great for organizing apparel, cosmetics, electronics, and other comforts. Inside, travel trailers often feature storage space like shelves and cubbies, but not all offer a latch system to hold items in place while driving around.

There can also be storage space beneath the mattress. The Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer had an aluminum interior frame, which extended onto the doors, with numerous holes to clip carabiners, hang dish towels, or slide in hangers to dry gear like our dense wetsuits .

Larger travel trailers usually have ample storage space, including cubbies beneath sofas, cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen, and even hanging closets.

Exterior Storage

Outside, tidy travel trailers can also have a toolbox, tongue box, or racks for storing gear and equipment. Large travel trailers also often have storage compartments facing outward, which sometimes include pass-through storage space.

Doors & Windows

We really appreciate it when the doors and windows are built to last in a travel trailer. One of the most unique door configurations is on the Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer . There’s a back door that swings open and a second door that opens upward like the gullwing doors on the DMC DeLorean in “Back to the Future.” Nearly the entire wall serves as a sturdy canopy.

Windows are great for allowing ample light and can help a space feel bigger, but shades are equally important for privacy and to block out the light of the full moon or campground lamp. Slide-down shades can black out the inside of the trailer, and bug screens can enable airflow regardless of bug activity. It’s also nice to have windows that can be locked when they’re cracked.

Electric, Solar, Gas, and Water

You’ll need to closely consider how much energy and resources you’ll need between trips to a gas station, store, or an overnight stay with shore power.

Even if you don’t plan to charge your laptop or watch television — an option in larger travel trailers — it’s nice to have battery power. The battery can run indoor and outdoor LED lights around the kitchen and doors, as well as the roof exhaust fan — and it can charge up phones. Many travel trailers feature a prewired solar inlet to get an energy boost off solar panels, too.

Each trailer will have a specific capacity for gas and water carry. For instance, the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 water tank boasts a 31-gallon capacity. The Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper has upgrade options for a 30-gallon water tank and bonus storage that holds two extra 5-gallon jerry cans. The Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer holds one 5-gallon jerry can.

In contrast, larger travel trailers have a greater water capacity, in great part to manage the bathroom. The Black Series HQ19 comes with a 50-gallon water tank for supply, a 26-gallon gray water tank for collection (for all used water except from the toilet), and a 26-gallon black water tank for all toilet waste.

Often trailers include an indoor smoke detector, fire extinguisher, and carbon monoxide detector.

How much weight can you tow?

Check your vehicle’s door jamb or owner’s manual for the payload, max towing, and tongue weight rating. Be sure not to exceed those caps with what’s hauled in the trailer and in the vehicle.

What camper trailer features allow off-road capability?

If you intend to off-road with your trailer, be sure to pick one with durable, all-terrain tires that can handle paved, gravel, dirt, and rocky surfaces. Look for a steel frame, ample clearance, axleless suspension, burly fenders, and articulating hitch.

How long do camper trailers last?

Most camper trailers will last between 10 and 15 years. However, numerous factors determine the lifespan of a camper trailer, and the most unpredictable is the human element. Outside elements that affect the lifespan of a camper trailer include the original design, build quality, usage, and storage when not traveling.

Assuming it is a quality-built trailer, is stored properly when not in service, and received regular maintenance, it’s normal to see camper trailers in use after 15 years from when it was bought brand new.

This Mid-Century-Modern RV Is Actually All New and Modern Inside

This isn’t your grandpa’s RV, even if it looks like it.

Retro resto-mods aren't anything new in the car world. There are countless companies that take classic designs, and even entire classic cars, and pack them with modern technology and materials. Companies like Singer, Alfaholics, Icon, and Ruf all have cars with beloved vintage designs wrapped around modern underpinnings. But did you know there's an RV company that does the same thing? As the Autopian recently discovered, Holiday House RVs are back from the dead and they pack up-to-date interiors wrapped in mid-century modern exterior designs.

Not familiar with Holiday House RVs? Don't worry, you're not alone. Holiday House was a very small RV company that only built handmade RVs for a mail-order gift basket company, Harry & David, during the offseason. Harry & David owner David Holmes wanted to bring in some additional revenue during his offseasons, so he put his gift basket craftspeople to work building RVs under the Holiday House name. To create his mid-century modern RV designs, Holmes turned to Charles Pelly, the American designer who would go on to design TV show sets and even help found BMW's Designworks USA.

Holiday House eventually went under in 1962 and the rights to its name were bounced around between companies for decades but no one ever did anything with the name. That is until 2014, when the current owners took control of the name with the intent to bring the brand back from the dead. According to Holiday House, its revival will reignite the passions of RV enthusiasts, similar to how "Chevrolet reintroduced the Camaro and Dodge reintroduced the Challenger."

Old Holiday House RVs were built just like every other RV of the '60s: wooden frames on steel chassis with plywood sheathing. However, those old campers were susceptible to mold and mildew, being made mostly from wood. Now, Holiday House uses mostly aluminum construction, R14 insulation, and composite vinyl flooring (though the roof panels are still made from plywood). However, the exterior designs are all inspired by the classic Pelly-penned RVs of the '60s. The brand's fan-favorite "Worldview" wraparound front window is back as well.

Inside, these RVs have solid-wood cabinetry, Bluetooth radios, and gas stoves. However, they still use mid-century modern designs, such as wood paneling and ribbed metal trim.

There are three different models available: the 18RB (20 feet, 11 inches long), the 24SC (26 feet, nine inches long), and the 27RQ (30 feet, seven inches long). Holiday House doesn't list prices, and you'll have to find one of its dealers to buy one, but prices seem to range from around $40,000-$82,000, according to the Autopian . For any fan of mid-century modern RVs, these new Holiday House campers could be as exciting as the revived Camaro was for car enthusiasts.

CBS New 2024 Show Trailers: ‘NCIS: Origins,’ ‘Young Sheldon’ Spinoff, ‘Matlock’ & More (VIDEO)

CBS has revealed the first look at its slate of new fall shows. In addition to revealing its 2024-2025 schedule , the network dropped teaser videos for each of its freshman series — including NCIS prequel NCIS: Origins , the new Matlock reboot, Young Sheldon sequel Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage , and new father-son comedy Poppa’s House .

Check out first looks at all four below.

NCIS: Origins (This Fall)

The trailer for this NCIS prequel series features a snippet of Mark Harmon ‘s very last scene as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, flyfishing in Alaska. The voiceover teases, “We know how his story ended. Now see how it all began.”

Taking over the legendary role is Austin Stowell. NCIS: Origins takes place in 1991, before the events of the main show, and is narrated by Harmon, who also executive produces the show along with Sean Harmon. The series finds Gibbs as a new special agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office as he joins the ragtag team led by Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).

Alongside Stowell as Gibbs and Schmid as Franks, the new series also stars Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Dominguez, Tyla Abercrumbie as Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Sullivan and Diany Rodriguez as Special Agent Vera Strickland.

The prequel was ordered to series by CBS in January. “We’re thrilled to be bringing this new chapter to life along with Mark and Sean Harmon,” said executive producers and co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North, who co-wrote the premiere episode, in a statement at the time. “This really is the making of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. And even the most dedicated NCIS fans will discover that they don’t know the whole story.”

The NCIS universe will only continue to expand from here, as Paramount+ has also ordered a spinoff centered around Tony ( Michael Weatherly ) and Ziva ( Cote de Pablo ).

Matlock (Thursdays, 9/8c)

“There’s this funny thing that happens when women age. We become damn near invisible” Kathy Bates ‘ voiceover says in this trailer with a surprising amount of cheer before adding, “It’s useful because nobody sees us coming.”

Bates stars in Matlock as the “brilliant septuagenarian” Madeline “Matty” Matlock. After achieving success in her earlier career, Matlock decides to rejoin the prestigious law firm to win cases and tackle corruption from within.

Joining Bates in the series are Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, a senior attorney with a thirst for justice; Jason Ritter as Olympia’s ex-husband Julian, the son of the head of the firm who is intrigued by Matlock’s cleverness; David Del Rio as Billy, one of the firm’s younger associates, and Leah Lewis as Sarah, an associate with ambition.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (Thursdays, 8/7c)

The TV universe keeps expanding after the big bang ( Big Bang Theory , that is) with this Young Sheldon sequel starring Montana Jordan as Georgia and Emily Osment as Mandy as they attempt to raise their young family in Texas. “We’re grateful to get to continue these characters and continue this story,” Osment says in this teaser.

Poppa’s House (Mondays 8:30/7:30c)

Welcome to the energetic abode of, per this trailer, “the master of the might, the king of the commute, the living legend…” Poppa!

The series stars real-life father and son acting duo Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. Wayans leads as Poppa, a happily divorced legendary talk radio host whose worldview is challenged when his new female cohost (portrayed by Essence Atkins) is hired, and he still has to parent his adult son (played by Wayans Jr.), who is described as a brilliant dreamer trying to find his place as a responsible husband and father.

Naylor Court condos meld history and modern aesthetic

The Matthew adds nine units to D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood

Sandwiched between an Italian restaurant and an interior design firm, The Matthew’s nine new condos went on sale this spring in the Blagden Alley-Naylor Court Historic District, part of D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood.

The brick rowhouse that holds The Matthew — at 1318 Ninth St. NW — is the product of several periods of city history and numerous renovations and incarnations.

The front section was built in 1926 and housed the Salvation Army from at least the 1960s through 2005, and a number of short-lived nightclubs occupied the first and second floors through 2022.

The rear section dates from 1873 or earlier, according to the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board, and has gone through many renovations. Today, that part of the building contains two garage parking spaces for sale to residents of The Matthew, along with one of the condos on the building’s second floor.

From the 19th through the early 20th century, the spartan building housed working-class residents of Naylor Court. Painted on the brick wall of a building directly across the alley, a restored sign — believed to date from the 1860s — declares: “Hospital for Horses and Dogs. J.P. Turner, V.M.D.”

Inside, The Matthew is pure 21st century, with stainless-steel appliances, open-concept living areas, windows that stretch from floor to ceiling and iron staircases in the two penthouses. Retail space is planned on the first floor.

“Overall the aesthetic is a really modern, industrial vibe, which is nice in the way it reflects the location,” said Desiree Blackstone, sales manager with Urban Pace, which sells and markets the units. “It’s very contemporary but located in an area known for its history.”

All the condos have a kitchen with quartz countertops, either in black or white, and dark brown cabinets with under-cabinet lighting. They also have a washer and a dryer, full size and stacked.

The smallest unit is a 435-square-foot studio on the basement level with a price of $329,900. Two one-bedroom condos are also at this level, and the three units get natural light through windows that look out on small patios at ground level. Two additional one-bedroom units are on the second floor.

One-bedroom condos all have one bathroom, and they range from 551 to 709 square feet, with prices from $424,900 to $499,900. A 1,109-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit with a den is also on the second floor. It is priced at $814,900.

The two penthouse apartments have two levels each and have a deck on both levels. They each have two bedrooms, three bathrooms, including a powder room, and a den. The larger penthouse is 1,284 square feet, with a price of $1.19 million. The other is 1,074 square feet and is priced at $979,900.

The view from units facing the front of the building takes in a large tree, a gas station across the street and a large mural with a rainbow-colored sky as a backdrop to the Capitol. Visible from several units is a sign painted on the brick exterior that reads “PH9,” for Penthouse 9, which occupied the second floor of the building for nearly a decade before it became The Matthew. (The building is named for the son of developer Tom Kadida, chief executive of the Kadida Development Group.)

Step outside and numerous restaurants are within blocks. Murals splash color throughout the neighborhood.

Signs of the Naylor and Blagden alleyways’ past abound. One building, a condo conversion, was once one of several stables in Naylor Court. “E.G. Adams and Co. Stables” is still painted on the side of the building.

For decades after the Civil War, Black migrants from the South lived, often in substandard conditions, in the squat brick houses on Naylor Court, as well as Blagden Alley, a block to the south. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, social reformers tried to clear away the most decrepit of the alleyway dwellings, along with prostitution and other crime. First lady Ellen Wilson, wife of President Woodrow Wilson, was among those who took up the cause of improving the alleys.

Progress made in the 1950s and 1960s was interrupted by the 1968 riots that followed the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King. But the addition of Naylor Court and Blagden Alley to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 helped begin a rebirth, also encouraged by the construction of a convention center nearby, which was completed in 2003. Hip restaurants began to pop up, and many buildings were refurbished and converted to upscale housing, including the one that became The Matthew.

What’s nearby : More than a dozen restaurants and coffee shops are within a few blocks, including San Lorenzo Tuscan Italian restaurant next door and SUNdeVICH sandwich shop around the corner on Naylor Court. The D.C. Office of Public Records is on Naylor Court, and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is a block away on Ninth Street. Giant Food is three blocks away at Seventh and O streets NW, and Whole Foods is 10 blocks away at 14th and P streets NW. Shaw Dog Park and Seventh and N street playgrounds are each about a half-mile away.

Schools : Seaton Elementary, Cardozo Education Campus (middle and high), School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens (prekindergarten to grade 8).

Transportation : The Mount Vernon Square Metro station, on the Green and Yellow lines, is three blocks away.

Met Museum Reaches Fund-Raising Goal for New Modern Wing

The museum achieves a milestone, but still faces a complex public approval process for its Tang Wing, which is on city land.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Wednesday announced that it has raised $550 million in private donations for its new modern and contemporary wing, named after Oscar L. Tang and Agnes Hsu-Tang in honor of the couple’s $125 million lead gift in 2021.

The fund-raising goal has been met even as the museum is still in the design process and has yet to produce renderings for the new Tang Wing by the Mexican architect Frida Escobedo, who was selected in 2022.

Cultural institutions often find themselves hustling to cover construction costs right up to completion of a project, given the challenge of raising all the money in advance. And the Met in 2017 had tabled the project to get its financial house in order. (At the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, for example, fund-raising has continued during construction; when it announced last August that it had exceeded its $750 million goal, the building was more than 65 percent finished.)

“What this signifies is not only that it’s happening, but it’s happening with full force and with total commitment,” the museum’s director, Max Hollein , said in a telephone interview. “We’ve raised this money without even having the design done. The credibility of the Met has changed.”

The museum has long hoped to improve its galleries for Modern and contemporary art, which have felt like something of an afterthought without a clear program in the Fifth Avenue building. While design details have yet to be released, the museum aims to make the new wing feel more connected to the rest of the collection both physically and contextually. The galleries in the new wing are also expected to be of varying heights and dimensions.

While not a huge increase in square footage — the wing will expand to 125,000 square feet from 120,000 — the redesign will create more space in the galleries by reinventing the existing layout.

The wing will also be home to Leonard Lauder’s Cubism gift , received in 2013, Hollein said, as well as the archive of the photographer James Van Der Zee, which it acquired with the Studio Museum in Harlem in 2021, and its Philip Guston collection, received in 2022 .

Hollein said the museum will aim to raise an additional $100 million to $150 million for an endowment to support the building’s operating costs.

Fund-raising goals often prove to be moving targets as capital projects mushroom while underway. And the Met, which is on city land, still has to go through a complex public approval process. (While the city did not provide financial support toward the museum’s goal, Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement that he “applauds its efforts to expand the museum’s world-class collection.”)

For now, the museum sees its milestone as significant.

“It shows the confidence of the board, of the donors, maybe even of the community in regard to what we’re doing and how we’re doing it,” Hollein said. “That’s pretty powerful.”

The world of visual arts and design is rich with the exploration of materials, each one telling a unique story and reflecting the cultural zeitgeist. Artists who trace their heritage beyond the shores of the UK have long used lace, weaving and beadwork to highlight different cultures and their social and economic impact. “One of the things that started me on this path was seeing many old and frayed tapestries in the UK and Europe, in fading stately homes, with threads dangling,” says the artist Hew Locke of his relationship with beading. “These were once the most expensive items in the house.”

In his own work, Locke takes what has fallen into disrepair and out of favour and gives it new life. “I use plastic beads, which I originally used to source from five-and-dime stores and Halloween shops,” he says of his practice, in which he transforms these pieces into objects of significance. His handling of beads can be interpreted as celebratory, symbolic and an expression of his Guyanese identity – see his 2022 Tate Britain Duveen commission The Procession . “I am not using them as ‘kitsch’,” he adds of the beads woven into the fabric. “I genuinely like the way they look.”

In Nigeria, lace is the material of choice for tailor-made clothes for special occasions

Victor Ehikhamenor , who featured in the exhibition Rites of Passage that I curated at the Gagosian Gallery in London last spring, also uses beading and lace within his work. “In my art, the lace is not necessarily visible as it is part of a whole,” he says, “buried among other materials like rosary and coral beads. It needs discovering, like you would [find] your parents’ or grandparents’ lace at the bottom of a box. Absent and present at the same time, like colonialism.” 

His 2024 work Miracle Central highlights the hope and joy that are connected to the spiritual and religious. The installation, filled with a floating church band and pulpit, conjures memories of white-garment churches, which are a staple in west African communities. Artists such as the photographer Liz Johnson Artur have also documented members of the pentecostal Cherubim & Seraphim church, founded in Nigeria nearly 100 years ago, whose garments often have elements of lace woven into them. 

Hamed Maiye , an emerging artist based in London, similarly incorporates lace into his vignettes that evoke the spirit world. When I visited his studio, he reflected on the importance of lace within Nigerian communities; not only does it have a special resonance for the devout, but it is also the material of choice for tailor-made clothes for special occasions. Lace has taken on a particular symbolism for Maiye because his mother sold lace, following in a long tradition of Yoruba women entrepreneurs.  

Nengi Omuku , who studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, repurposes traditional Yoruba woven fabric such as sanyan – which is a type of aso-oke, the most prestigious fabric in Nigeria. “Using sanyan feels like a reawakening of the culture,” says the Nigerian-born Omuku, “a continued building of a cultural memory, and a way of digging deeper into remembering.” Sanyan serves as a literal canvas for Omuku’s exploration of cultural identity, her figures appearing in beautiful floral compositions. It also offered her, she says, a new lens through which to view herself on her return to her home country from the UK. 

Omuku’s commitment to reviving aso-oke weaving, evidenced by her commissioning of cotton spinners in Ilorin and weavers in Lagos State, reflects a profound dedication to preserving cultural heritage and craftsmanship. The revival resonates deeply with fashion designers such as Kenneth Ize and  Lisa Folawiyo . Both draw inspiration from indigenous Nigerian textiles, with a particular emphasis on akwete weaving. Akwete, a traditional Igbo textile known for its intricate patterns and vibrant colours, holds a special place in Nigerian heritage. By incorporating akwete into their collections, Ize and Folawiyo pay homage to the rich culture of Nigeria. 

What unites these designers and artists is not just a shared appreciation for traditional techniques, but also a commitment to sustainable and ethical fashion practices. By championing indigenous textiles and collaborating directly with local artisans, they empower communities and promote economic development, while ensuring the preservation of traditional crafts. They also inspire us to reconsider the potential of everyday materials. From the bustling streets of Lagos to the galleries of London, their creations serve as reminders of the transformative power of art to evoke emotion, provoke thought and ignite change.

Leapfrog Group safety grades show patient experience scores jump

The Leapfrog Group said hospitals improved their patient experience scores for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading some to earn higher safety grades in the nonprofit watchdog's latest report.

The organization’s spring 2024 report found that hospitals’ average scores on measures related to staff responsiveness and doctor communication increased between October 2021 and March 2023. Around 70% of hospitals increased their score for at least one patient experience measure.

The overall distribution of safety grades has remained fairly stable compared to previous years.

How hospitals fared

Nearly 30% of hospitals earned an “A,” 26% a “B,” 37% a “C,” 7% a “D,” and less than 1% an “F.” Around 1,880 hospitals, or two-thirds of those graded, maintained their grade from the fall 2023 report . Eighteen hospitals fell by two grades, and 35 increased by two grade levels.

Utah was the state with the highest percentages of “A” hospitals, with around 58% earning top marks. Vermont, Wyoming, West Virginia, Delaware, North Dakota, South Dakota and Washington, D.C., fared the worst, with no hospitals receiving "A" grades.

Major metropolitan areas that scored the best include the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton region in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the Winston-Salem region in North Carolina and New Orleans. In all of these areas, around 70% of hospitals have “A” grades.

Government-owned hospitals received a higher percentage of “C,” “D” and “F” grades compared with for-profit and nonprofit hospitals. Nonprofit hospitals had the highest percentage of “A” grades.

Military treatment facilities were scored by the Leapfrog Group for the first time this year, and all scored a “C” or above, with most earning “A’s” and “B’s.”

Where Leapfrog saw improved safety scores

This year's safety grades were buoyed by hospitals' efforts to enhance patients' care experiences and by facilities' performance on various safety measures returning to prepandemic levels.

“Hospitals never want to be in a position again where they're putting patients last on their list of priorities,” said Leapfrog Group President and CEO Leah Binder. “Many felt they had to do that during the pandemic.”

Hospital leaders have been more focused on patient satisfaction over the past two years, working to close gaps in patient communication through multidisciplinary rounds and more regular patient visits from clinical staff, Binder said. These efforts have paid off with higher patient experience scores across the industry.

The scores, drawn from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, factor into hospitals’ overall Leapfrog Group safety grade.

Between the late 2021 and early 2023 HCAHPS reporting periods, hospitals' average scores on communication with patients about medicines and staff responsiveness increased by 0.23 points and 0.16 points, respectively. Hospitals increased their scores for measures on nurse and doctor communication with patients and discharge information, as well.

Another bright spot for facilities this year was continued progress in reducing healthcare acquired infections.

Hospitals’ average standard infection ratio of central line-associated bloodstream infections fell by 0.17 percentage points between Leapfrog Group's fall 2023 and spring 2024 reports. Average ratios of MRSA cases and catheter-associated urinary tract infections decreased by .14 and .12 percentage points, respectively.

Now that infection control and patient experience levels have mostly returned to where they were in 2019, it’s important for hospitals to keep the momentum going and achieve even better outcomes, Binder said.

“The discipline of understanding how to create a better patient experience and a safer one is going to pay off for hospitals,” she said.

In its 2023 hospital survey , the Leapfrog Group found that more than 60% of hospitals are using safety grades in their executive compensation review. Tying performance to leaders’ pay is a good way to create a culture focused on patient safety and care quality, Binder said.

At Endeavor Health Elmhurst Hospital, which has received an “A” every year since the Leapfrog Group began grading hospitals in 2012, a main challenge is ensuring that the facility's newer staff are aware of all safety expectations and processes, said Dr. Kim Darey, president of the Elmhurst, Illinois, hospital.

“We make it a high priority when people are hired, whether they are housekeeping, physicians or executives, that they understand the kind of safety culture we want to have,” Darey said.
