Fans adore the show's hilarious cast as they travel beyond their comfort zones to explore random holiday destinations around the world.

Now, Travel Guides is back for its latest season and will  return to Channel 9 on Wednesday, April 19 at 7:30pm .

While fans are very keen to see the friendly faces on our screens once more, there have been some changes to the traditional  Travel Guides cast.

Cowgirl Mel - who appears on the show with her identical twin sister, Stack - is taking some time off from this season to be with her one-year-old daughter, Savannah.

However, Stack's new partner remains in the family, with brother Josh joining the team in Mel's place.

With that in mind, meet the Travel Guides cast for 2023...

Meet Josh! He'll join sister Stack in place of Mel this season.

Stack and Josh

There will be a switch-up to the traditional pairing of identical twins and country cowgirls, Stack and Mel. This year, you'll see Stack and Josh. While not an identical twin, Josh is the sisters' younger brother.

As was the case with his older siblings, Josh is a little wary about travelling beyond the family's home in outback Queensland. In fact, he's never been out of Australia (until now).

While Stack and Mel were more comfortable at a local rodeo, they felt like fish out of water on their Travel Guides adventures. And Josh will be just the same!

Will he be as game as his sisters? We're sure this construction worker will do just fine.

Matt and Brett

Bona fide travel addicts Matt and Brett joined the show in season four, hailing from Newcastle in New South Wales.

The married couple, who have been together for 19 years now, describe themselves as ‘high end travellers’ who also love a bargain.

While Matt is organised, and packs his outfits into plastic bags via the suitcase, Brett is much happier going along for the ride, leading to a delightful Bert-and-Ernie energy that makes for great TV.

They’re also hilarious, giving biting commentary, and always making the audience laugh.

The Fren Family

The Fren family

The delightful Fren family have been regulars since season one, bringing immediate joy to the show with their upbeat nature.

Dad Mark is upbeat and forthright, with a knack for negotiating room upgrades. He’s been married to wife Cathy for over 30 years, and their two kids, Victoria and Jonathan, are always along for the journey.

Their family grew earlier this year, with Jonathan marrying his long-term partner, Danielle Clarke .

Other members of the Travel Guides cast Matt, Brett, Kevin, Janetta, Mel, and Stack were all in attendance – too cute!

Kevin and Janetta

‘Holiday snobs’ Kevin and Janetta always bring the laughs.

The pair, who are in their 60s, are passionate wine enthusiasts and seasoned travellers. They’re also avid researchers when it comes to their holidays, making sure they have the best possible experience, so being thrown into strange situations on the show always makes for a good laugh.

They also won’t hesitate to ask for the manager, which has earned them the catchphrase “we don’t suffer in silence”.

kev-dorian-teng-travel-guides

Kev, Dorian and Teng

Besties Kev, Dorian and Teng love food, computer games, movies, and music.

Kev is a pop-culture expert, Dorian studies teaching, and Teng is the risk-taker, who keeps deferring university in the hopes of finding a good time.

Their combined heritage spans China, Greece and Vietnam, giving them a unique take on the world when it comes to the show.

Travel Guides Season 6 starts on Wednesday, April 19 at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9 Now .

Each episode will see the  Travel Guides pack their bags and set off on a journey full of new experiences and adventures. The TV Week Logie Award-winning show will feature the return of the show’s travel critics: the budget-hunting Fren family  from Newcastle, fun-loving  Matt and Brett , jetsetters  Kevin and Janetta , and best mates  Kev, Dorian and Teng .   While cowgirl  Mel  takes time off to be with her baby, twin sister  Stack  is joined by their younger brother,  Josh .

Josh has never been overseas before, and he has packed an extra pair of jocks along with his passport. Like his sisters, Josh is a true-blue country boy who will no doubt struggle with the lingo, the customs and the crowds in foreign lands. But lucky for him, he is just as game as the girls and will give anything a crack.

Mediaweek spoke to Stack and Josh about setting off around the world, and asked how they found travelling with each other.

Stack : Travelling with Josh is definitely different from travelling with Mel. Mel and I have this weird twin bond where we can look at each other or say half of a sentence and the other can finish it off. This is the most time Josh and I have ever spent together, so it’s been awesome getting to know each other’s little quirks better.

Josh : Stack and I travel well together. I think we see eye to eye on most things. We are both laid back and easygoing.

Stack : Yes, we see eye to eye most of the time, except when I’m giving directions or singing – both Josh and Mel seem to struggle with those!

The Travel Guides Cast: Everything About Salary and Living Conditions

The Travel Guides is a popular Australian reality TV series. It first aired in 2017 and was met with positive feedback from viewers. Australians were eager to watch a different type of reality TV series. They found this show to be a refreshing change from the regular selection of reality TV programs.

This series follows groups of travellers from Australia. All of the travellers are ordinary Australians, but each group is different from the next. Their job is to review the accommodations, cuisine, and tourist attractions.

new season travel guides 2023 cast

However, this isn’t your ordinary travel series. The contestants on this show are put in unpredictable situations. It’s part of what makes this show unpredictable and humorous. Each group of travellers will have a different take on the situations at hand.

What Does the Cast Do on Travel Guides?

The cast of this hit reality series gets to go on exclusive vacations around the world. While they travel, they will experience different activities, try dishes custom to other cultures, and stay at local hotels and resorts. In exchange for this, they will leave brutally honest reviews.

In each episode of the series, the travellers will go on a week-long vacation (all expenses paid). The groups each consist of family members or close friends. They will leave their comfortable nest in Australia and venture to big cities worldwide.

Viewers are introduced to new groups of travellers each season, and some fan favourites have returned to the show. One of the most popular groups on the show is the Fren family, who has appeared in all five seasons.

These groups have gotten to travel to places all over the world. Some of the places they’ve visited include:

  • Tokyo, Japan
  • Perth, Australia
  • Argentina & more

Does the Cast of Travel Guides Get Paid?

It hasn’t been released to the public how much the castmates of Travel Guides get paid. However, the Fren family had openly commented on how the show saved them when they were experiencing financial hardship with the restaurant they own.

Many reality TV shows made in Australia will provide contestants with weekly pay while filming. Travel Guides is a different scenario. Ordinary Australians get to travel to tourist destinations in Australia and internationally for free. All fees are covered, including accommodations, transportation, meals, shopping, and other activities they participate in. Since everything is free for travellers, they don’t have to worry about any expenses.

Whether or not the contestants get paid per episode and how much they earn hasn’t been revealed. Each group of family and friends do have the job of leaving a red hot honest review. Even if they don’t get paid, the free travelling and TV exposure are worth it.

A lot of Australian reality TV contestants are able to earn money because of the exposure they have gotten. Once the TV series airs, fans of the show begin following the castmates on social media and subscribing to their content. Well-known castmates have been able to use their exposure to get further opportunities, such as appearances on other TV series. It’s also common for them to get paid endorsement deals where brands pay them to post content on Instagram and other social media platforms.

Another way that these contestants use their exposure to earn money is through paid online gigs, like Cameo and similar platforms. This is when they record personal messages for fans for a cost. The more popular a castmate is, the more they can charge for a video. It’s also common for castmates to use paid subscription platforms, like Patreon and OnlyFans, to earn an income. Also, a lot of contestants may like to relax by gambling and choose a new Australian online casino .

What Are the Living Conditions Like on Travel Guides?

Every country these travellers visit will have different accommodations. The accommodations will be based on the culture of the country they visit. This is why the reviews from the Fren family, cowgirl twins, and other favourite castmates are always red hot.

For the most part, they get to experience good quality living conditions. However, since the accommodations are often different from what they are used to, it leads to some hilarious reviews. This is one of the main reasons why this reality TV series has been such a hit with Australians and other viewers around the world.

Every episode is a different experience for the castmates and the viewers. Travellers could be enjoying the lux life on a cruise, visiting a casino in the city, or going on an off-road adventure. They must be up for anything to get the full travel experience.

Will Travel Guides Return for Season 6?

Do you want to see the Fren family and other fan favourites back on your TV screen? Currently, there is no word on when season 6 will be released. This is because the 6th season hasn’t been renewed yet.

Fans of this beloved reality TV show shouldn’t have reason to worry about the series’ fate. It has been confirmed that the series hasn’t been cancelled and is just on a break.

Does the idea of temporarily leaving your job and travelling the world for free sound like a dream? That’s exactly what the castmates of this popular reality TV series get to experience. While there currently isn’t any information released on what contestants earn from filming the series, the experience they get is well worth it.

The Way Home Cast & Character Guide: Who Plays Who In The 2023 Hallmark Channel Show

  • The Way Home is a unique Hallmark series with time-travel, three generations, and a stunning cast of new and familiar faces.
  • Chyler Leigh shines as Katherine in the series, balancing a complex family dynamic with her powerful performance.
  • The Way Home's supporting cast adds depth to the storyline with intriguing characters played by talented actors.

The Way Home is a Hallmark Channel original series and the cast of the 2023 fantasy drama includes some new faces as well as some recognizable stars from classic TV shows and movies. Premiering in January 2023, The Way Home is an original series that follows three female generations of the Landry family, who realize that a pond on Grandmother Del's property has the ability to transport those who fall into it back in time. 15-year-old Alice goes back in time and meets her mother, grandmother, and others in their younger years.

Most viewers know Hallmark primarily as a movie channel , but it has had a handful of original series since it was established. The Way Home is a charming adventure with a solid cast rounding out the present and past characters, and the series has an ambitious edge, jumping as far back as the 1800s. The cast of the series consists of recognizable actors from notable TV series, up-and-comers, young talents, and a Golden Globe-nominated actor. Each character, whether they are from the past or present, brings something unique to the series.

Chyler Leigh

As katherine "kat" landry dhawan.

Kat Landry, played by Chyler Leigh, is Alice's mother and Del's daughter and often finds herself caught between her willful daughter and demanding mother. At the same time, she is struggling to get over the loss of her brother Jake, who was the first to disappear into the pond when he was only a young boy. Leigh's career has primarily been in television, but she does have a notable lead role in the teen comedy parody Not Another Teen Movie as Janey Briggs, the lead and stereotypical "Pretty Ugly Girl".

Leigh is probably better known for her television roles, including her biggest as Alex Danvers/Sentinel in the Arrowverse , primarily in Supergirl , where she is one of the lead characters. She also has significant roles in Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Lexie Grey, That '80s Show as June Tuesday, and The Practice as Claire Wyatt.

The Good Witch Season 7 Cast & Character Guide

As teenage katherine landry.

Alex Hook appears in The Way Home as the teenage version of Kat Landry, a happier and more innocent character whose brother has not yet disappeared and whose father is still alive. Hook only has a few performances to her name, but she has already had a starring role in a television series, making her no stranger to her role in The Way Home . In the Nickelodeon series, I am Frankie , Hook stars as the titular character. She also appears in an episode of Handsome Devils as Kara and has a supporting role in the film Contractors as Anastasia.

Evan Williams

As elliot "el" augustine.

El is a family friend to the Landrys as well as Alice's high school physics teacher. He's the one Alice gets in touch with to help pull her out of the pond when she first falls in. Evan Williams, who plays El, came to wide audience attention for his supporting role in Blonde as the real-life historical figure , Edward "Eddy" G. Robinson Jr . Williams' TV record has a few more notable performances in it, including Jack in an episode of Westworld , Chevalier de Lorraine in Versailles , Luke in Awkward , and Kelly Ashoona in Degrassi: The Next Generation .

David Webster

As teenage elliot augustine.

David Webster stars in The Way Home as a teenage Elliot "El" Augustine, a kind friend of Kat, whom Alice befriends in the past. Webster only began his career in 2014, but he has already been a part of many television shows and a few movies. His film roles include Ben Hunter in Luckiest Girl Alive , Xander in Christmas by the Book , and Quinlan in Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie .

Webster's many TV performances include an excited teen in an episode of The Boys , Max in Strays , and Michael in In the Dark . The Way Home is by far his biggest role, appearing in both seasons of the show as part of the main cast.

Sadie Laflamme-Snow

As alice "ali" dhawan.

Ali Dhawan is the youngest member of the Landry clan and is torn between her divorcing mother and father. She's dragged to her grandmother's house where she finds the time-traveling pond and sets the Landrys on an adventure of their multiple lifetimes. Sadie Laflamme-Snow began her career in 2015 , appearing in one episode of Game On as Leslie. She went on to have a recurring role in Slasher as Verdi Botticelli and a voice role in Unicorn Academy as Ava Banji. In movies, Laflamme-Snow appears in Cascade as Em.

Andie MacDowell

As delilah "del" landry.

Veteran film and television actor Andie MacDowell costars in The Way Home as Del Landry, Kat's mother and Alice's grandmother who was estranged at the start of the series only to unexpectedly ask them to return home at the outset of the show. MacDowell is a four-time Golden Globe-nominated actor with years of experience in major films and television.

Most fans will recognize MacDowell for her classic film roles, such as Rita in Groundhog Day ; Ann in Sex, Lies, and Videotapes , her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Motion Picture Drama; Brontë in Green Card , her second Golden Globe nom, this time for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy; and Carrie in Four Weddings and a Funeral , her third Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category. Notable later performances include Becky Le Domas in Ready or Not and Nancy Davidson in M agic Mike XXL .

MacDowell received her fourth Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Paula Langley in Maid , acting opposite her daughter Margaret Qualley , a star in her own right. Her other notable TV appearances include Olivia Lockhart in Cedar Cove and Gray Chandler Murray in Jane by Design .

The Way Home has been renewed for season 3 and will premiere in 2025.

The Way Home Supporting Cast & Characters

Jefferson Brown as Colton "Cole" Landry : Jefferson Brown plays Del's late husband, Cole, who is still alive in the past when the Landrys go through the pond. Brown's movie credits include a small role as an FBI agent in The Town and Mr. Ulmann in the 2013 Carrie adaptation. His TV credits include When Hope Calls as Joe Moody and another Hallmark series, Good Witch , as the recurring character Ben.

Remy Smith as Jacob "Jake" Landry : Jake Landry, thought to be dead, actually fell through the pond portal. He's somewhere in the 1800s having grown up, but his younger self still has not disappeared in the timeline Alice goes to . This young version of Jake is played by Remy Smith, whose first role is in The Way Home .

Samora Smallwood as Monica Hill : Samora Smallwood plays Monica Hill in The Way Home , Kat's frenemy from her high school days. Smallwood appears in the Hallmark series Good Witch as Dr. Monica McBride and in The Kings of Napa as Dr. Maddi Brewer.

Marnie McPhail-Diamond as Rita Richards : Rita Richards, played by Marnie McPhail-Diamond in The Way Home , is one of Del's best friends and a close confidant. McPhail-Diamond has been acting since the '80s, first starring in the TV show The Edison Twins as Annie Edison . She later went on to appear in Orphan Black: Echoes as the recurring character Dr. Pam Teller and played Claire in the black comedy Dream Scenario .
