Open Door Helicopter Flights Hawaii FAQ

Absolutely! Honolulu helicopter tours offer a unique and awe-inspiring experience, allowing you to witness the island’s natural beauty from a breathtaking perspective. You’ll soar above stunning landscapes, iconic landmarks, and hidden gems that are inaccessible by other means. The bird’s-eye view and the thrilling sensation of flying make helicopter tours an unforgettable adventure.

The best time of day for a helicopter tour in Oahu largely depends on personal preference. Morning flights often provide clearer skies and optimal lighting for photography. Midday flights offer vibrant colors and a different perspective of the island. Sunset tours offer a romantic atmosphere and the chance to witness the island bathed in golden hues. Ultimately, any time you choose will provide a fantastic experience.

It’s generally recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled helicopter tour. This allows time for check-in, completing any necessary paperwork, and attending a pre-flight safety briefing. Arriving early ensures a smooth and stress-free start to your experience, and it allows the tour operator to maintain their schedule for all passengers.

While most individuals can enjoy a helicopter tour, there may be certain health restrictions to consider. Pregnant women, individuals with heart conditions, back problems, or recent surgeries may need to consult their physician before participating. Additionally, those with motion sickness may want to take appropriate measures, such as taking medication or opting for a forward-facing seat in the helicopter.

Yes, you are typically allowed to bring your camera or phone on a helicopter tour in Oahu. In fact, capturing the stunning views from above is highly encouraged. However, it’s essential to secure your belongings properly during the flight to prevent them from falling or interfering with the helicopter’s controls. It’s also advisable to check with the tour operator for any specific guidelines regarding photography equipment.

In the event of inclement weather, the tour operator will prioritize the safety of passengers and may reschedule or cancel the flight. Helicopter tours are subject to weather conditions, such as heavy rain, fog, or strong winds, which can affect visibility and flight stability. It’s recommended to contact the tour operator ahead of time or on the day of your scheduled tour to inquire about weather-related updates.

Yes, most helicopter tours in Oahu provide informative and entertaining narration or commentary during the flight. The pilot or a designated guide will share interesting facts, historical information, and point out notable landmarks and sights along the way. This enhances the experience by providing valuable insights into the island’s culture, geography, and attractions.

Depending on the tour operator and the type of helicopter used, it may be possible to request a specific seating arrangement. While not guaranteed, most companies strive to accommodate passengers’ preferences whenever possible. It’s recommended to contact the tour operator in advance and make your request known. Keep in mind that seating arrangements may also be influenced by weight distribution for safety reasons.

The minimum number of passengers required for a helicopter tour in Oahu varies among tour operators. Some tours may have a minimum requirement of two passengers to ensure the flight is financially viable. However, there are also tour operators who offer shared or group tours where individual passengers can join a scheduled flight without a minimum requirement. It’s best to check with the specific tour operator to understand their policies regarding minimum passenger numbers. If you’re traveling alone or have a small group, inquire about the availability of shared tours or if they can accommodate your request.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

MY OPEN-DOOR HELICOPTER TOUR OF OAHU

I knew the island would look unbelievable from the air and couldn’t wait to see the spine of the island from a birds-eye view. I organized the open-door helicopter tour of Oahu . They are one of the few tour operators on the island who allow doors off and run specialty photography flights but the regular flights are still great for taking photos and enjoying the scenery.

Book your tour: 60-Minute Tour: Doors On or Off

We went for the open-door helicopter tour of Oahu just after sunrise, hoping for some soft lighting. I love vibrant blues when they clash against the strong green tones of the mountains. That’s why I chose sunrise to mid-morning for the flight rather than a golden hour flight. it turned out to be a perfect decision. The weather was a little stormy so the lighting was forgivingly soft on the landscape and I even was able to shoot some thunderstorms raging over the island of Oahu from the safety of the sunny ocean.

The hard part about a doors-off helicopter tour of Oahu is that the weather changes quickly and is quite unpredictable as you will see in my photos below. On Oahu, we had sunshine, a rainbow, storms, and thick clouds all within an hour. This rapid change in conditions coupled with the constant movement of the helicopter makes shooting an exciting challenge.

Fittingly, the first scene out of the airport to shoot was Ala Moana, my local beach for over 2 years. Looking down on this beach out of our open-door helicopter filled with me with so much nostalgia, I almost forgot I was holding a camera until I quickly grabbed the first frame of what would be an epic hour of photography and sightseeing.

We cruised straight over Waikiki , watching surfers catch waves from directly above, too high to notice the craziness of the strip. It almost seems like a peaceful beach district from the air. Looks can be deceiving. If you are just interested in flying over Waikiki there is an awesome tour option that is still doors off but is a specialized sunset Waikiki tour, which can be pretty epic at golden hour.

Flying over Diamond Head and Koko Head Crater was a good memory from the doors-off helicopter tour of Oahu. It’s hard to fully grasp the nature of the entire crater from a hike or a viewpoint. Being high enough and far enough out from the volcanic craters gave us so much more perspective to fully understand the grandeur of these formations.

We headed inland to explore the Koolau Mountain Range. I knew this was going to be epic and I wasn’t let down. It was ridges on ridges as Josh, our pilot, slowed down the helicopter so we could hang our feet out and enjoy a few minutes of relaxing with the fresh air blowing in our faces while we stared down at the Stairway To Heaven (Haiku Stairs) Hike . This is why a doors-off helicopter tour of Oahu is the way to go. Moments like this were the highlight of the flight.

oahu helicopter tours, oahu helicopter tours doors off, doors off helicopter tours oahu, doors off helicopter oahu, open door helicopter oahu,

Kaneohe Sandbar was our refuge as we watched a storm rages over Kualoa Valley . It was quite surreal to cruise in the sunshine over the ocean while we watched a storm pour down on land.

My favorite part of the doors off helicopter tour of Oahu was over my favorite part of the island. Kahana Bay. The Crouching Lion Hike gives good views of Kahana Bay but I’ve never felt more satisfied than clicking my shutter as we rounded the corner and had a dead-on view into Kahana Bay with a dark storm brewing in the background.

I even asked our pilot Josh, to double-back for a second pass. That’s the beauty of a photography tour. It is still an island tour essentially but the pilot is doing their best to get you good angles for photos, not just a good view. Josh didn’t blink any time we requested a double-pass or to hang our feet out of the helicopter and was all for the adventure and down to help us grab the photos we had our heart set on.

My open-door helicopter tour of Oahu had been unreal and I loved that we were chasing storms and watching rain funnels the whole trip. There are a few different helicopter tour options on Oahu and they vary in price and where exactly they fly. I’ve already linked above to the exact flight and tour company I used but I’ll share some cheaper options and different tour flight routes below.

THE FOUR MOST POPULAR OAHU TOURS

  • Doors-Off Oahu Helicopter Flight Tour : My number one recommendation is to do a heli-flight (doors off) and be blown away when you see Oahu from the air.
  • North Shore Shark Cage Tour : The biggest adrenaline rush you can have in Hawaii is beneath the surface with sharks!
  • Eco-Friendly Dolphin and Snorkel Tour : One of the best experiences I had on Oahu was swimming with the beautiful spinner dolphins on this exact tour.
  • Turtle Canyon Snorkel Cruise by Catamaran : The number 1 MOST POPULAR snorkel tour on Oahu. GUARANTEED Turtles!

WHERE TO STAY ON OAHU

  • Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort  (Overall Favorite) : In the heart of Waikiki, this high-end resort is right on the beach with a private lagoon.
  • Sheraton Waikiki   (Luxury) : A luxury resort with the most amazing infinity pool on the island, which overlooks the beach.
  • Ewa Hotel Waikiki : (Value):  Ewa Hotel is just one block back from the beach and is just over $150 USD.
  • Waikiki Beachside Hostel   (Budget Choice) : A budget alternative, which is still in an amazing location.
  • Disney Aulani Resort (Family Choice):  This is a resort your kids will never forget. It honestly feels like you are living in a theme park.

The. Doors of Helicopter ride was on Mauna Loa Helicopters. The Pilot ??‍✈️ was actually my son, Joseph, Jackson said his name was Josh. My son is no loner at MLH but there are a lot of good pilots still there, my son trained Marc or Tianna. It’s the pilots call to let you hang you legs out ask a head of time. This was a private photographer ride not a tour.

We did the doors off Kauai helicopter tour. We have previously done a helicopter ride with a different company on Kauai and Jack Harter is definitely above the rest in terms of customer service and friendliness. We had Stephanie as our pilot and she was great. We felt very safe the entire time and she made sure to point out many spots to look out for as we passed over them. Yes it is pricey but this is some of the best money to be spent on Kauai and one of the few ways that you can see the entire island.

This was our first helicopter experience and we did the doors off tour. It was hands down the most beautiful experience ever. It was a bit cloudy/rainy but we got to see some amazing rainbows and great waterfalls. Our pilot was Preston, he was super friendly and made us feel very safe and comfortable. He was very knowledgeable about the island and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend this!

AMAZING experience - even as someone who is afraid of heights, the doors-off helicopter ride was a major highlight of our trip! Worth every penny. Such a unique and up-close way to see the island. We had to reschedule our original flight due to bad weather -- which we really appreciated their commitment to safety and also to making sure we got to see everything! -- and the day we rescheduled for was PERFECT weather and visibility. So I recommend taking their advice to book the flight for early in your trip so you have time to reschedule if needed!

These guys are pros and deliver an extraordinary experience. Check in was organized and gracious. All the staff are friendly and informative. Safety procedures will make you confident in the journey. Our pilot, Preston, was great at narrating the scenery as well as warning us of any upcoming turbulence. The entire flight was smooth with little turbulence and jaw dropping views. Can't recommend highly enough!!

We rode with Eli doing the full island tour (1h). It was a doors on flight with 2 other guests though the helicopter seated 6 so we had lots of room and great views. Eli was an incredible guide, did a great job of entertaining us and giving us history of the island, as well as being very calming to one of the passengers who was quite nervous about flying. 10/10 experience. I am glad we chose to schedule early in our trip because we ended up having to reschedule to 2 days later. Well worth the wait. Also just as an aside, being that there was a mist/sprinkling on and off during our tour, as it often seem to be according to the staff, I’m really glad we chose doors on!

Even though a doors off helicopter ride could sound scary and overwhelming, we are so glad we chose this company. From start to finish, they made the whole experience so seamless. Most importantly we felt safe throughout the entire process!!! We loved our pilot Max and the safety instructors were fun and hilarious! This experience was 10/10 and we will definitely tell our family and friends!!! Thanks for making this such a beautiful memory for us.

From the staff answering the phones, inside the office, the shuttle lady to the pilot this place was hands down the most professional well staffed helicopter tour I have EVER been on. Our pilot was very safe, knowledgeable and personable with us. We had an excellent time with the doors off tour and highly recommended it. I will be back with my kids next year. Thank you!

View Bali Hai, also known as the Makana Mountain, which starts at the beginning of the Na Pali Coast on the north shore of Kauai. Soar over Manawaiopuna Falls, one of the Garden Isle’s most famous waterfalls . Best known from the opening of the 1993 blockbuster film, Jurassic Park. Watch from above as the water rushes over a 380-foot tall cliff surrounded by walls of deep green lush flora. Located within Hanapēpē Valley on the west side of the island, it is a site few can say they have seen while on Kauai.

Continue on over to Hanalei Bay which covers nearly two miles of beach and is backed by 4000ft tall emerald mountains: Hihimanu is on the east, Namolokama is in the middle with its square top, and the triangular shaped Mamalahoa is to the west. Often cloaked with a mist of clouds the Mt. Waialeale ridge home to dozens of cascading waterfalls.

The name Waialeale, meaning “rippling water or overflowing” receives over 400 inches of rain per year and is known to be one of the wettest spots on earth. You’re surrounded by enchanting waterfalls and lush green walls of fauna. Waialeale Crater aka Blue Hole & The Weeping Wall. From above you will see it all and find yourself lost in the beauty and mystery of Kauai’s enchanting lure.

Other sites like the Wailua Falls and Waimea Canyon are also famous aerial sites on the Doors-Off Adventure Tour.

Short answer is “yes”. However, rest assured, prior to every flight our pilots and ground crew review the weather to make sure it is not only safe, but also conducive to a quality tour for you. We understand that this is a big expenditure, and we want to make sure you get your money’s worth. We will cancel your tour and make sure you get a full refund if there is poor visibility, or if the pilot determines the winds are unsafe.

We give a 100% refund for cancellations made 48 hours before the tour date. If there is inclement weather or unscheduled maintenance, we will either reschedule your tour or issue a 100% refund. Keep in mind that if the tour is booked with a third party, their cancellation and refund policy may differ from ours.

All guests must provide their own transportation. We recommend Taxi, Uber, or Lyft. We ask guests to allow an extra 15 minutes of travel time due to unforeseen traffic, to arrive early or on time for their check in.

The doors-off helicopter tour is extremely windy. We recommend comfortable athletic wear, no loose shirts, or dresses, or skirts. Closed-toe shoes or sandals with a heel strap. Hair should be secured in a bun or tightly braided, no loose ponytails or braids. Temperatures are 10-15 degrees cooler and we recommend a windbreaker or a jacket to protect against the wind chill.

All of the tour times we offer are great times to view the island. Time is personal preference whether you like to be an early bird and do activities first thing in the morning, or take your time and do a later tour midday or afternoon.

You may reschedule or cancel your tour for a full refund if done 48 hours prior to the tour date and time. It should be noted that it does rain almost every day in Hawaii. Most of the time it is in very small areas at a time, which does not affect our tours. So we do not recommend cancelling or rescheduling based on a forecast of rain.

Front Seat upgrades are the two seats in the front with the pilot. Selecting these seats guarantees the seating assignment if the two passengers’ body weights combined do not exceed the 345 pounds weight limit. The front seats are sold only as a pair together, whether it is for one or two people. The open seating is any seat in the helicopter. Open class seating is assigned by body weights. For solo passengers, we try our best to accommodate a seat next to the open door. For couples, we seat you two together in the same row. For a party of three, we either seat two passengers in the front and the third passenger in the rear seat, or vice versa depending on the weights. For a party of four passengers, we will seat accordingly by each body weight, typically the two body weights that are the lightest combined at, or under, 345 pounds will be seated in the front. For any seating, you may add a request upon booking. We do not guarantee seating nor assign seating until the day of the tour. Premium Plus seatings are for any guests that weigh 240lbs/109kg or more. An additional seat is blocked and reserved to ensure the combined passenger weight does not exceed the aircraft limitation of 745lbs/339kg.

Because this is a doors-off helicopter tour operation we must take extra steps — in accordance with FAA regulations — to make sure nothing flies out of the helicopter in flight. A phone flying out the door could hurt someone on the ground, or even damage the helicopter if it hits the spinning rotors. Requiring a tether for your phone allows you to enjoy the tour without having to worry about it slipping out of your hands and being lost forever. If you do not have a phone tether, one will be available for your use.

The minimum age requirement is 10 years old. A responsible adult must be seated next to any child. No lap children are allowed, and each person is required to wear a seat belt.

808-651-0619 or use our Contact Form

Weight Restrictions: Front Seats are sold as a pair only, with a maximum combined weight limit of 340lbs/154kg. Guests weighing more than 240lbs./109kg and parties of two (2) with a combined weight of more than 400lbs./182kg, must reserve (1) one additional seat at the regular price. Private Tour 4 guest maximum weight limit is 745lbs/338kg.

Age Restrictions: Minimum age 10 years.

If you’re planning a trip to Oahu, our doors off helicopter ride should be number one on the bucket list. With 597 square miles of island, the amount of sights to see and explore are endless. Let our expert tour guides take you on an escapade that you’ll never forget.

Take the first step toward a new adventure, wander off the beaten path, and see the island’s fresh sights in a whole new perspective. Plan your next adventure filled with gorgeous seas, tropical rain forests, and stunning lush landscapes—book your Oahu helicopter ride to experience the island like you’ve never seen it before!

All About The MD-500

As seen in the famous television series Magnum P.I., the Hughes 500D helicopter was originally developed about half a century ago for military purposes. Not only did this recognizable and now iconic aircraft add some cutting-edge drama to the series, it also showcased Oahu’s photogenic beauty from high above.

At Magnum Helicopters, we’ve reconstructed that very same “D model” helicopter to closely resemble the one used in the TV show—but ours is even better! Our version features a more powerful engine, a T-tail, and a five-blade main rotor for quick maneuverability and a smooth ride. As you soar high across the Oahu sky during your 50-minute aerial tour, you’ll experience the ultimate Magnum P.I. helicopter tour!

To learn more information about the iconic Hughes 500D helicopter flown in Magnum P.I., feel free to contact us at 808-833-4354. Whether you’re interested in booking a Magnum P.I. helicopter tour over Oahu or have questions regarding the aircraft’s technical specifications, we’re here to help. Thanks for choosing Magnum Helicopters!

Kauai 'Open Door' helicopter tours

Hooded passenger leering out of doors open helicopter at the Kauai coast

Scary yet thrilling helicopter tour that will allow for unrestricted, door less flight with views of the Kauai jungle, mountains and waterfalls passing below you.

Not for the faint hearted Kauai Open Door helicopter tours are an amazing way to see Kauai at its finest; offering unrestricted views over the course of a 60 to 90 minute tour. Jack Harter will serve your doors off tour; all while flying their fast, agile Hughes 500s helicopter to all major sights .

Companies offering open door

Seated open door only, unrestricted photography, weather effects doors off policy, what to expect open door passengers.

No way is it possible to see Kauai the way you can as a visitor or tourist to the island than with this once in a lifetime open door helicopter tour.

Unique, unforgettable experience that will seem so sureal, you won't get this helicopter tour out of you mind, ever.

It may be doorless, but make no mistake, this is a safe Kauai helicopter tour where you'll be securely strapped in with a life-jacket.

Helicopter used to dart around the island is the Hughes 500s; a personal favorite of mine, and one that is highly recognisable.

Jack Harter will be the helicopter company to fly you, well there prices reflect similar Kauai helicopter tours with doors on, using other helicopter models.

What you should expect to pay for a Kauai helicopter tour with the doors off would be $309.00 - with the doors off add-on usually not effecting the price.

In Kauai, Jack Harter Helicopters are your destination for a doors off helicopter tour in a fast, agile Hughes 500s helicopter.

That's the type of helicopter used in the Magnum P.I. series and numerous 80s shows.

Exciting as Kauai helicopter tours are, imagine it with no doors fixed to the helicopter, with only your seat belt keeping you firmly secured to your seat...

Remember, all Kauai helicopter rides are safe so there's nothing to worry about here.

Flying with Jack Harter with doors off it not for the faint hearted mind; the thrills, the spills and the often aggressive manoeuvring by the pilot is concerning... but in a good way.

You will fly low through canyons with often a change of climate from hot to chilly, before hovering near waterfalls with the possibility of brief landing on top of a mountain.

Jack Harter open door option is one of the best helicopter tours in Kauai, so its not one to be missed when or if the opportunity presents itself while you're there.

Often the passenger will have a choice of being strapped into there seat the normal way, or being tethered into a legs-out position.

In Kauai, the seated position doors off helicopter tour is the only option to you but will for sure be the only position you need.

Being strapped in faced forwards has no restriction to the passenger; with the ability to still turn left or right as you view the sights or take pictures.

Kauai helicopter tours last for up to 60 to 90 minutes, so why not travel in comfort with the doors off, rather than getting tired from dangling legs.

It is possible to book a doors-off, legs-out helicopter ride over one of the Hawaii Islands if you phone around the helicopter tour companies, it just doesn't exist in Kauai.

Benefits to open doors of course is unrestricted photography, which will get into next...

First person view of GoPro through open door helicopter

Its all well and good if you're flying a helicopter tour with the doors off; but why not take photographic evidence of your thrilling, adrenaline filled helicopter tour by taking pictures.

You don't need to be a professional, nor do you need the best camera; all that's needed is a basic camera phone, GoPro or a DSLR camera.

Jack Harter will insist you strap all photography equipment to your wrists.

Not only will you have to do so but things will be checked, before being checked again to make sure there's no possible chance of objects coming loose in flight.

Safety concerns around helicopters are items hitting the helicopter at speed, so all cameras or video devices must be tied to your wrists.

Too much photography equipment will not be permitted; only two items at a time can be held in each hand will be allowed.

Unfortunately, weather changes very quickly in the Hawaii islands with the sun shining one minute before quickly turning to weather unfit for helicopters to fly in.

If the weather changes dangerously during your doors off flight, it might be that you'll have to head back to base camp.

You will not fly an open door helicopter tour if its raining heavy, as vision is restricted for you and the pilot...

The flight instruments risk getting water damaged, and so will your camera equipment.

Saying that, a little rain won't prevent your helicopter tour as its the rain that keeps the Kauai waterfalls flowing.

With that in mind, you will need to dress accordingly while also making sure you bring waterproof camera equipment.

The Hughes 500s is a four-seated, passenger (excluding the pilot who sits on the left-side in the Hughes) helicopter.

After a quick briefing at the heliport, you'll be forced to strap on a life-jacket as you'll be flying over water, so must be worn for safety reasons.

Pilot will arrange your seating though it is possible to ask for the front seat, or a door-side seat if you wish (this is not guarantee).

Passengers will all wear noise-canceling headphones so you can talk between yourselves, including the pilot who will be accommodating.

Noise canceling headphones will be useful so you can hear each other in flight; well also help keeping your ears warm and hair tied back.

If you do have long hair then you must take the opportunity to tie your hair back as to avoid your hair giving you trouble during your Kauai open door helicopter tour.

If you want to take an open door helicopter tour in Kauai throughout the year, then Jack Harter Helicopters is the only company to offer such a tour.

If the doorless helicopter flight is too scary thought, then Jack Harter do have a doors-on state-of-the-art Eurocopter AStar helicopter.

Made more scary with the doors off, the agility of the Hughes 500s helicopter will be flying in a way that will make your heart sink - with manoeuvring that is not for everyone.

Regardless, safety is a priority and more so on Kauai as the weather changes from hour to hour, but a little rain won't hurt you.

Dress in a light rain jacket or hoodie if you must, with closed toe shoes to keep you warm enough, so any chill in the Kauai air won't ruin the flight.

Children won't be allowed an open door tour so its strictly an adult tour only.

You won't be tethered in your seat for safety concerns, with only a seat belt used to stop you falling out of the helicopter.
