THE CHIANG MAI EXPERIENCE TRAVEL

Hello, my name is Bin Bin and I am the owner of the Chiang Mai Experience. As a local, I can offer a unique perspective on Chiang Mai and the culture of northern Thailand. I am a member of the Karen Hill Tribe and grew up in a small tribal village in the mountains north of Chiang Mai. When I was twelve years old I left my village to study Buddhism at the Chedi Luang Temple, where I received my education. At nineteen years old I became an ordained monk and joined the Wat Phra Kao monastery, where I served as a monk until I was twenty four years old. After leaving the monkhood, I worked at a local elephant sanctuary. Since then, I have been a tour guide, showing tourists the many beautiful sites in and around Chiang Mai, from the beautiful temples and elephant sanctuaries to the natural wonders of the area. I have many tour package options, where you can visit waterfalls, rice terraces and enjoy the local culture. I enjoy showing people the city that I call home, and teaching them about the incredibly unique culture that is nurtured by the history and people of Chiang Mai. Thailand Highlights 10-Day Package

Tremendously fun and from my perspective, the trip of a lifetime. Because its a tour, you are brought to all the obligatory sites for a one-time visitor. The staff was very professional; the guides spoke English reasonably well and knew their stuff. They even stood by our side and helped us navigate the airports between locations. I never felt worried or uncomfortable on what could have been a very different experience. The hotels that were chosen for us (we upgraded to the 4-star option) were all excellent and centrally located making walking to dinner and entertainment realistic. If I had to do it all over again I would have: 1) skipped a number of temples - not being Buddhist or Hindi (or very religious) after awhile they tend to blend together in my memory. There is far more to do in Bangkok than see another temple, just not my thing. 2) The palace and governmental stuff is interesting and really cool, but not being able to see more than the grounds was disappointing. This part could be shorter and other venues added instead. 3) Although the hotel in Phuket was clean, beautiful, and centrally located to downtown, it would have been far better to be closer to the water - the real attraction here. This is my only gripe. 4) While visiting the Golden Triangle from Chang Mai is interesting, it is not worth an 8 hour round trip by bus. We later learned that there are TONS of things to do and see in Chang Mai that frankly would have been more fulfilling (OK, two gripes). 5) Remember to bring only the cleanest, newest currency from home. We did not realize that Thailand is a cash based economy and our credit cards were not much use. There are plenty of methods of getting cash though, from ATMs to local banks and currency traders but they will not touch used currency especially if there are any marks on it.

Amazing Thailand In 10 Days - Private Tour

An amazing tour with excellent service. Guides very kind and with a lot of knowledge about the places and also provided useful information. Drivers helpful and vans really comfortable. The flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai included a complete meal, even it was just of 1:30hrs, I had never seen that before. The hotels were really nice. Additionally, someone was checking on us via WhatsApp to make sure everything was ok, and to remind us the next day's pick up times. The complete experience was outstanding, and the most astonishing thing was that I booked the tour just a week before we took it. Thank you to all the Realistic Asia group for your amazing attention. The trip itself was absolutely fabulous, everything I had hoped for!! Both Lana and Jack were excellent tour guides who were both friendly and very knowledgeable! The only downside was not being able to find the airport shuttle when I returned to Bangkok. I asked 2 different security guards where I might find it and neither one knew. I asked the AOT shuttle information desk, they didn't know and told me to take a taxi. I would definitely recommend to my friends and co-workers whom I'm sure are anxious for me to STOP talking about this trip!! ????

Perfect Thailand in 13 Days - Private Tour

It's a fantastic tour, superbly planned and covering the most exciting experiences. It combines some days in the capital, Hanoi, with relaxing countryside, cruise and plenty of leisure time on the beaches well as in-depth insight into the history and culture of the country. It's unbelievable that all this is packed in mere 8 days. Throughout the journey we always felt secure and well looked after, all the departure times etc. were known in advance, the guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the hosts were just incredible! On the day when we were scheduled to go to Co To Island there were no boats due to rough weather conditions, and Realistic Asia (Sviet Travel) acted promptly, allocating us to a hotel, arranging all the transfers etc. within a mere half hour! We are really impressed. It's our first experience is Vietnam, and by no means the last one. We look forward to coming back very soon.

I had an amazing time with G Adventures! The itinerary was perfect; there was a lot to do and see, but it wasn't overwhelming and there was a lot of free time provided. My guide, Prem, was one of the sweetest, loveliest people I've ever met! She is brilliant at her job, and brings so much enthusiasm to work. She is extremely knowledgeable, and was always willing to share her knowledge with the group. Miss her so much already!

Very nice balance of long travel days followed more settled sight seeing day. Loved the freetime options occasionally too, often tours are so critivall3timed, no sparetime to shop for souvenirs or just do as you wish. Arjan was a very attentive guide, going above and beyond to help some clients.

We did this tour in July 2023 and due to family exigencies forgot to post the review. The tour was well planned by Legend Travel group. It was supposed to be a group tour however it was just 3 of us on the tour. which made us miss company of fellow travelers. The guides were very nice and went out of their way to help us, so very pleased with them. On the whole it was a great tour and we covered all the places that we wanted to see and did loads of other stuff with good guidance from the guides.

Doi Inthanon National Park 1-Day Tour

Our Doi Inthanon National Park Tour brings you to Thailand the highest mountains, ethnic hill tribes, unique flora and fauna, and stunning natural beauty to boot.  This is our best-seller tour in Chiang Mai. 

Description:

On this tour, you can cool off on Thailand's highest peak while taking in the beautiful scenic Doi Inthanon National Park. Night-time temperatures on the peak can be as low as -8 degrees centigrade.  In the cold/dry season, night-time frosts are common.  Daytime temperatures can be surprisingly cold so do not forget a long sleeve jumper. On the way up we will visit Wachiritharn  Waterfalls, The King and Queen Chedi's, (the best views across the park are found here), and then on to the peak of Doi Inthanon the highest mountain in Thailand. Near the top, we will take the Angkha nature walk where you can walk amongst the unique flora and forest that grow at this altitude. There are both Karen and Hmong villages in the bounds of Doi Inthanon and we will see those at the local market on the way down the mountain before making our way back to Chiang Mai.

• Pick you up from your hotel (in pick up area) around 8:00 - 8:30 am.
• Visit Wachirathan and Sirithan Waterfall. (Sirithan waterfall is temporarily closed for walking path repair)
• Visit the Chedi's of the King & Queen.
• Thai lunch (not too spicy).
• Visit the highest mountain.
• Nature Trail (about 15-20 minutes walking distance).

It's quite amazing when you see how the vendors can cook up mouthwatering dishes on these tiny wooden boats.

Thailand faqs, do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join a trip in thailand.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises). However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Do I need a visa to visit Thailand?

Some foreign nationals do not require a visa to enter Thailand if the stay is for less than 30 days, while other foreign nationals will require a visa. It's important that you visit the relevant consular website of the country or countries you’re visiting for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality. Check the Essential Trip Information section of the itinerary for more information.

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months after your arrival date in Thailand and should have a few blank pages left for a new stamp.

When is the best time to visit Thailand?

Thailand's climate is generally hot, humid and at times (like other South-East Asian countries) monsoonal. The seasons differ from coast to coast, so depending on which areas you're visiting, the weather can vary.

Thailand's north, east and west are great to visit from November to February, when the weather is cooler and dryer. If heading south, it's best to travel from January to April as these months provide conditions optimal for diving and snorkelling. This is peak time, however, so be aware that popular places like Chiang Mai, Ko Samui and Phuket can get particularly busy. It can also get quite busy from July to August as it's the northern hemisphere school holidays.

The monsoon season is from July to November, so it can get quite wet and the weather may be uncomfortably hot and humid for those who aren't accustomed to it. Yet travelling during this time can provide a different picture of Thailand, and is generally a less crowded time of year. March to June is less wet but is the hottest time in terms of temperatures. If you don't mind the heat then this can be a good time to go on holiday to Thailand to avoid the crowds.

Can I drink the tap water in Thailand?

Drinking tap water isn’t recommended in Thailand. Avoid drinks with ice and make sure to peel fruit before eating it. Help the environment and try to avoid buying bottled water. Instead, fill a reusable water bottle with filtered water. Your leader or hotel can tell you where to find filtered water.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before travelling in Thailand?

Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

Instead of being ridden, exploited, and abused, the elephants there enjoy their freedom and roam around the jungle and forest. You can have the chance to feed, bathe, and walk alongside these amazing creatures.

Our guide lele is a wealth of information, Lele is very professional and very attentive to our needs. Lele is amazing. Lele got everything spot on. It probably helps that Guilin is a brilliant place to visit so Lele has great material to work with but that doesn't take anything away from how much Lele helped make it a great trip.

Our guide for Beijing was super knowledgeable and experienced and able to help us to achieve as much as we wanted within the time given. We had a fun time guided by him as he is also super humorous and you can see how he interacts with the vendors and people whom he comes by. After arriving at the airport, your guide will be waiting for you, holding a sign with your name on it, and will then transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day and adjust to the jet lag or wander around your hotel.

Palaces, Temples, and Ancient Canals

You will start your trip after breakfast and will visit some landmark sites in Bangkok, which include Wat Pho, the Grand Palace, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and the Temple of Dawn. Experience Bangkok's local transportation – the long-tail boat and Thai tuk tuk – to feel what it's like to be a local.

Have lunch at a local Thai restaurant.

Would you like to taste some local Thai food? Chinatown in Bangkok is a nice choice for food lovers. Tasting delicious local food is an important part of traveling and it will make you fonder of the city. Have a delicious food hunting tour with your guide.

Visit the River Kwai and take a train to discover this historical site.

The River Kwai was built by prisoners of war during World War II and was supervised by the Japanese. You will take an hour's train ride along the Death Railway on the River Kwai. Your guide will tell you about its history in detail so you can learn about the misfortune brought by the war and cherish the peaceful world we have now.

Have lunch at a local Thai restaurant and return to Bangkok.

Magical Temples of Chiang Mai

You will meet your guide and driver in the lobby of your hotel. You will be driven for about 20 minutes from Chiang Mai to the famous Doi Suthep where you will have the chance to see the panoramic view of Chiang Mai.

The most popular site there is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, which was built in 1382 and is one of the holiest Buddhist temples in Thailand. Buddhism is the most important religion in Thailand so many locals go there for pilgrimages.

Afterward, go back to downtown Chiang Mai to visit Wat Chedi Luang, which is home to the Emerald Buddha. It attracts many Thais who visit there every year.

Learn How to Make Thai Food from a Local Family

Learning how to make local food is more interesting than simply tasting food. Now you will have the chance to make some local dishes with a local family. These dishes are common for Thai families and you can also cook them for your family when you return home. You will collect the vegetables from the host's garden and then the host will show you how to make some homemade dishes. Then try to make some dishes on your own — please take it seriously because this is your dinner.

Your guide and driver will escort you from your hotel to the airport for your flight to Phuket. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel ready to start your leisurely beach time.
