How to allow pop-ups in Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac

It seems like we put so much effort into blocking things like pop-ups and ads when we’re browsing the web that we forget about sites that actually use pop-ups for good reasons. It could be a shopping site where you get a confirmation, a CMS where you can use tools, or a social site where you log in.

In Safari on iPhone or iPad, you can allow pop-ups globally; and on Mac, you can even allow them just for the specific sites you want. Here’s how to do both.

Allow pop-up windows in Safari

Allow pop-ups in Safari on iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad, you cannot currently specify which sites you want to allow pop-ups for. It’s a global setting that you can enable or disable. The best option to allow pop-ups for a particular site is to turn off the setting, visit the website you want to see the pop-ups for, and then turn the setting back on.

Open Settings and select Safari . Turn off the toggle for Block Pop-ups .

Settings, Safari Unblock Pop-ups on iPhone

When you finish visiting the site whose pop-ups you want to see, you should strongly consider turning the Block Pop-ups setting back on. Otherwise, you could end up inundated with ads or even unsafe pop-ups on your device.

Allow pop-ups in Safari on Mac

You have a couple of ways to allow pop-ups in Safari on Mac for the sites you trust. You can do this in the Preferences or with the site active in Safari. By taking a few moments to configure certain sites, you’ll save some aggravation later, waiting for that pop-up that never comes.

Allow when on the website

Suppose you clicked a link that triggered a new pop-up window. But if you have restricted pop-up windows in Preferences, the pop-up window won’t open and display a message temporarily in the Safari address bar. Besides that, it will show a tiny pop-up icon . Simply click that icon in the address bar, and it will open the blocked pop-up window.

Show blocked pop-up window in Safari on Mac

When starting a live chat with Apple Support or downloading booked train tickets, I always use this method to allow the website to open the requested pop-up window.

Allow pop-ups in Preferences

  • Open Safari and click Safari > Preferences from the menu bar.
  • Select the Websites tab.
  • On the left, scroll down to and pick Pop-Up Windows .
  • To the right, you have your Currently Open Websites at the top with any Configured Websites at the bottom. Next to each, select the drop-down box and pick Allow for those you want to allow pop-ups.

Safari Preferences, Websites Tab, Pop-up Windows Setting on Mac

For any sites that you don’t want to allow or that you want to be notified, select either Block or Block and Notify in that drop-down box.

At the bottom, next to When visiting other websites , you have a drop-down box with those three options as well. This is a global setting that covers all other sites you visit that you have not yet configured.

Safari Preferences, Websites Tab, Pop-up Windows Global Setting on Mac

Allow pop-ups in the Safari window

  • Right-click the address bar for the site you’re viewing and select Settings for site name or Settings For This Website .
  • In the small window that appears, go down to Pop-up Windows .
  • Use the drop-down box to choose Allow to see pop-ups for that website. Obviously, you can choose Block or Block and Notify for those you don’t want to see pop-ups.

Safari Settings for This Website Allow Pop-ups on Mac

When you use this method to adjust pop-ups for particular websites, these sites will then be added to the Configured Websites list in your Preferences, as explained above.

Hopefully, Apple will offer the ability to configure pop-ups for specific sites in Safari on iPhone and iPad at some point, just like on Mac. But in the meantime, you do have a way to allow pop-ups for the sites you want on all your devices.

Block pop-up ads and windows in Safari

Find out how to block pop-up windows and handle persistent ads on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Pop-ups can be ads, notices, offers or alerts that open in your current browser window, in a new window or in another tab. Some pop-ups are third-party ads that use phishing tactics, such as warnings or prizes, to trick you into believing they’re from Apple or another trusted company, so that you’ll share personal or financial information. Or they might claim to offer free downloads, software updates or plug-ins to try to trick you into installing unwanted software.

Use these tips to help manage pop-ups and other unwanted interruptions.

Avoid interacting with pop-ups

Unless you’re confident that they are a legitimate ad, avoid interacting with pop-ups or web pages that seem to take over your screen.

  • If you see an annoying pop-up ad in Safari, you can go to the Search field and enter a new URL or search term to browse to a new site. If you can’t see the Search field on your iPhone or iPad, tap the top of the screen to make it appear.
  • Some pop-ups and ads have fake buttons that resemble a close button, so use caution if you try to close a pop-up or ad. If you're not sure, avoid interacting with it and close the Safari window or tab.
  • On your Mac, you can quit Safari, then press and hold the Shift key while opening Safari. This prevents Safari from automatically reopening any windows or tabs that were open.

Update your software

Always  install the latest software updates  for all of your Apple products. Many software releases have important security updates and may include improvements that help to control pop-ups.

The safest way to download apps for your Mac is from the App Store. If you need software that isn’t available from the App Store, get it directly from the developer or another reliable source, rather than through an ad or link.

Check Safari settings

On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari.

  • Turn on Block Pop-ups.
  • Turn on Fraudulent Website Warning.

On your Mac, open Safari and choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences) from the menu bar.

  • In the Websites tab , you can configure options to  allow or block some or all pop-ups .
  • In the Security tab , turn on the setting to warn when visiting a fraudulent website.

If adware or other unwanted software is installed on Mac

If you see pop-ups on your Mac that just won’t go away, you might have unintentionally downloaded and installed adware (advertising-supported software) or other unwanted software. Certain third-party download sites might include software that you don’t want along with the software that you do.

If you think that you might have malware or adware on your Mac:

  • Update to the latest version of macOS. If your Mac is already using the latest version, restart your Mac. macOS includes a built-in tool that removes known malware when restarting.
  • Check your Applications folder to see if you have any apps that you don't expect. You can  uninstall those apps .
  • Check the Extensions tab in Safari settings to see if you installed any unnecessary extensions. You can  turn extensions off .

If you continue to see advertising or other unwanted programs on your Mac, contact Apple.

The Safari browser on Apple devices delivers fast performance and excellent security features. It blocks harmful pop-ups by default and offers a private browsing experience with a Private Relay add-on. But sometimes, you may need to enable pop-ups for a specific website to check the content. Whether it’s a banking website or a university login page, the website might ask you to enable pop-ups temporarily.

allow pop-ups in Safari

Most websites throw unwanted ads via pop-ups. It’s one of the reasons why Safari blocks pop-ups by default on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. But, you’ll need to allow pop-ups for banks and other important websites. For example, when you try to download a monthly statement from your bank’s website, it may open the document in a pop-up. Luckily, Safari let’s you enable pop-ups for such exceptions and here’s how you can do that on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Allow Pop-Ups in Safari for iPhone and iPad

You can allow pop-ups for all websites in Safari for iPhone and iPad. Unlike the Safari macOS version, there is no way to allow pop-ups for specific websites. Follow the steps below to make changes.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone and scroll to Safari.

Step 2: Disable the Block Pop-ups toggle.

Open Safari settings opn iPhone

Allow Pop-Ups for All Websites in Safari for Mac

Safari on macOS offers better control over pop-ups. You have the option to enable pop-ups for all websites or specific ones. Here’s what you need to do.

Step 1: Open Safari on your Mac. Click Safari menu at the top-left corner on the menu bar.

Step 2: Select Settings from the context menu.

Open Safari Settings on Mac

Step 3: Click on the Websites tab at the top and select Pop-up Windows from the left sidebar.

Step 4: Open the menu beside ‘When visiting other websites.’

Allow pop-ups for all

Step 5: You have three options to choose from.

Block and Notify: It’s the default option and blocks pop-ups on all websites. Safari also notifies you when it blocks pop-ups.

Block: It will simply block pop-ups on all websites in the background and won’t notify you about it. We don’t recommend using this option as you may miss important information

Allow: As the name suggests, the option allows pop-ups on all websites.

Step 6: Select Allow.

allow safari pop-ups

You’ll need to be careful when you allow pop-ups for all websites. You may end up seeing unnecessary pop-ups on harmful websites. Thankfully, there is an option to allow pop-ups for specific websites only.

Allow Safari Pop-Ups for Selected Websites on Mac

You don’t need to head to Safari settings to allow pop-ups for a specific website. Once Safari notifies you of blocking a pop-up, allow permission from the address bar only.

Step 1: Open Safari on your Mac.

Step 2: Visit a website. If you see Safari blocking a pop-up, right-click (or two-finger click on the Mac trackpad) on the address bar at the top.

Open website settings

Step 3: Open the ‘Settings for a website’ option.

allow pop-up windows

Step 4: Expand the Pop-up widows and select Allow.

select allow

You can also hit the Safari option in the menu bar and open Settings for a website.

Manage Pop-up Permission for Websites in Safari

If you have allowed pop-up permission for several websites in Safari for Mac, you may get a below-average web-browsing experience . You can check which websites have pop-up permission and disable it for irrelevant ones. Here’s how.

Step 1: Click on the Safari menu at the top-left corner on the menu bar. Select Settings from the context menu.

Step 2: Select the Websites menu.

Step 3: Check which websites have permission to show pop-ups.

Step 4: Click the website and hit Remove to disable the permission. You can also open the side menu and select Block.

How Do I Know Which Pop-Ups to Block in Safari?

You’ll need to only allow pop-ups for websites you trust. You can enable pop-ups for banks, stock trading, and other frequently visited websites. If you encounter unfamiliar questionable websites during web browsing, block pop-ups on them.

Are Safari Pop-Ups Harmful?

It depends on the type of website you are visiting on Safari. If it’s a spammy content website or a streaming service with unlicensed content, they may send an unbearable number of pop-ups to trick you into clicking on them. Such unintentional and accidental clicks may show irrelevant ads and download unverified programs on your Mac. That’s why we recommend enabling pop-up permission for selected trusted sources only.

Customize Your Safari Experience

Allowing pop-ups in Safari is a double-edged sword. If you allow pop-ups for all websites, you may end up with unnecessary ads. Did you enable pop-ups for all websites or selected ones? Share your preference in the comments below.

New iOS App Blocks Those Annoying 'Open in App' Pop-Ups in Safari

You've probably experienced visiting a website like Reddit or LinkedIn on your iPhone only to be greeted with an annoying, almost full-screen pop-up urging you to view the content in their app instead of on the website.

banish safari app pop ups

Thankfully, there is a new way to block these pop-ups within Safari on ‌iPhone‌ and iPad . Developer Alex Zamoshchin has created a new Safari extension called "Banish" (via Daring Fireball ) that can run on iOS and iPadOS and is designed to specifically get rid of those pop-ups. The app, which costs $2, helps eliminate a majority of those pop-ups in popular web versions of apps, but it doesn’t get rid of similar banners that show up at the top of Safari to recommend opening the current page in an installed app.

The banner at the top of Safari is built into Safari and WebKit itself, so to get rid of those, you'll have to uninstall the respective app from your device. Banish, instead, gets rid of pop-ups implemented in the websites themselves.

To use Banish, download it from the App Store and follow the on-screen instructions to give the app the needed permission within Settings, Safari, and Extensions. You can learn more about Banish here .

  • Suggested ad blockers: 1Blocker, Crystal Adblock, Norton Ad Blocker, Purify.
  • Natively block Safari pop-ups on iPhone: Settings > Safari > Block Pop-ups ( on ).

This article explains how to use content blockers to block ads in Safari on iPhones with iOS 9 or higher.

Your phone must have iOS 9 or higher to use content blockers. Update the iPhone OS to ensure it has the most up-to-date version with current security patches.

How to Block Ads on iPhone With Safari

Using an ad blocker for your iPhone means your browser won't download ads. This usually means faster page loads, a longer-lasting battery, and less wireless data usage. If you don't want to see pop-up ads, there is a way to block these ads. Here's how to do so using the Safari web browser for iPhone.

Content blockers are apps that add new features that your default web browser doesn't have. These are like third-party keyboards —separate apps that work inside other apps that support them. This means that to block ads, you need to install at least one of these apps.

Most iPhone content blockers work the same way. When you go to a website, the app checks a list of ad services and servers. If it finds these on the site you're visiting, the app blocks the website from loading those ads on the page. Some apps take a comprehensive approach by blocking the ads and tracking the cookies used by advertisers based on those cookies' URLs .

How to Install Content Blocking Apps

To block ads with Safari content blocker apps, install the app, and then enable it from the iPhone Settings app.

Go to the App Store and download a content-blocking app to your iPhone. The example here is Norton Ad Blocker, but all ad-blocking apps work similarly. See the list below for other suggested apps.

Open the ad blocker app and follow the instructions to set it up. Every app is different, but each offers instructions to turn on the ad-blocking abilities.

On the iPhone home screen, open the Settings app.

Select Safari > Content Blockers .

Move the toggle switch next to the ad-blocker app you installed to On (green).

Choose an Ad-Blocking Plug-In for Safari

There is a sizable market for ad-blocking Safari plug-ins. The following options can get you started:

  • 1Blocker : Free, with in-app purchases. In addition to more than 50,000 built-in blocker rules, this app supports custom rules to block sites and cookies and to hide other elements.
  • Crystal Adblock : At $0.99, the developer claims that this ad blocker loads pages four times faster and uses 50 percent less data. This app also lets you opt to view ads on some sites to support those sites.
  • Norton Ad Blocker : This free ad-blocking app from the company behind the popular and long-running antivirus software also lets you add exceptions.
  • Purify : Grab this content blocker for $1.99 to block ads and tracking software. It includes a list (typically called a whitelist) to allow you to see ads on some sites if you like. According to the developer, after blocking Safari ads with this app, you can expect a fourfold increase in page load speeds and your web browsing data usage to be cut in half.

How to Block Pop-Ups on the iPhone Using Built-In Tools

Ad-blocking apps can block all kinds of ads and trackers used by advertisers. If you only want to block intrusive pop-ups, you don't need to download an app because pop-up blocking is a built-in feature in Safari. Here's what you need to do:

On the iPhone home screen, select Settings > Safari .

Toggle the Block Pop-ups switch to On (green), if it isn't already.

You can enable the Safari pop-up blocker on your computer, too.

The main benefit of blocking ads is that you don't see advertising. However, there are other key benefits to using these anti-advertisement apps:

  • Websites load faster : Ads are extra elements on the page that have to load, and ads often stream video or play animations. It takes time for the page to fully download and often causes other things like non-ad images and videos to take longer to display.
  • You'll be more secure : Many ads are vectors for malware. Infected ads hit a network, even a legitimate one, to disrupt your device.
  • You use less data : When you no longer see ads, you won't use your monthly data allowances to load ads. Some ad-blocking apps claim to save you lots of data. While their numbers may be inflated, you'll reduce your data usage to some degree because ad images and videos don't download to your phone.
  • A longer-lasting battery : Downloading ads, just like downloading anything in Safari, requires energy. One way to have a longer-lasting battery is to stop downloading so much data, which is what happens when you use an ad blocker.

Why You Shouldn't Block Ads

One downside you might encounter when you block ads on your iPhone is that some websites don't load properly. Some sites detect whether their ads load, and if ads don't load, you can't use the site until you unblock their ads.

Almost every site on the internet makes the majority of its money by showing advertising to its readers. If the ads are blocked, the site doesn't get paid. The money made from advertising pays writers and editors, funds server and bandwidth costs, buys equipment, pays for photography and travel, and more. Without that income, it's possible that a site you visit every day could go out of business. Consider supporting your favorite sites by whitelisting them, so ads on those sites still display.

How to block Safari pop-ups on Mac

Though sometimes helpful, pop-ups don’t have a great reputation. They can interrupt your work, slow page-load times, or even conceal malicious software. Thankfully, blocking pop-ups in Safari is easy, because the browser features a built-in pop-up blocker to help you manage them.

On Mac devices, Safari’s pop-up blocker lets you block or allow pop-ups for specific websites . This is an important feature in a blocker, because not all pop-ups are spam messages and some help you navigate and use sites more easily.

You can also choose to block or allow pop-ups on specific sites with AVG Secure Browser , a free browser that puts security and privacy at the forefront. You can surf the web anonymously and fully customize your ad blocker to allow only essential pop-ups. Plus, you’ll enjoy a host of additional privacy features.

Are pop-ups in Safari dangerous?

Most Safari pop-ups aren’t dangerous and actually help you interact with the websites you visit more easily. Pop-ups can help you interact with a site, let you select preferences, display marketing messages, or show cookie consent forms. If you allow a site to display pop-ups in your browser, you can always clear your cache and disable cookies later to get rid of them.

But there are more dubious and even dangerous pop-ups that can contain false close buttons that actually run unexpected actions rather than close the window. A hover ad or an in-page pop-up appears as a layer in front of a browser screen, falsely presenting itself as the webpage. If pop-ups cause you to inadvertently install unwanted software, you can use a bloatware removal tool to get rid of any unnecessary apps .

The most dangerous pop-ups can harm your system and bombard your browser with an adware attack . Other suspicious pop-ups can function as malvertising ploys , riddling your system with all kinds of malware . Staying informed about Mac cybersecurity threats is essential to keep you and your system safe. If you think you may have already downloaded malware onto your system through a pop-up, remove the malware from your Mac immediately.

Pop-ups are one of the main reasons to get an ad blocker . But there are downsides to a blocker snuffing out pop-up windows completely. Some pop-ups are necessary to the proper functioning of a website. Other pop-ups contain important information or let you access deeper features of a website — for example, an installer for an application.

Another reason to be careful when using ad blockers is that they can sometimes block ads for products and services that are genuinely useful, like newsletter signup forms. With an ad blocker, you might also miss out on pop-up discounts or limited-time offers, so it may be better to selectively stop pop-ups in Safari.

How do I know which pop-ups to block?

Since some pop-ups are irritating and others are useful — there’s no comprehensive solution to the issue of how to remove pop-up ads on Mac. Consider allowing pop-ups on websites you know and trust, and blocking pop-ups if you’re unsure of a site’s safety . Always practice safe browsing habits and definitely block sites with suspicious pop-ups.

iOS 17: How to Turn Off Pop-Up Blocker on iPhone – A Step-by-Step Guide

To turn off the pop-up blocker on your iPhone running iOS 17, you simply need to head to the settings of the Safari browser and disable the feature. By doing so, you will allow pop-ups to appear while you’re browsing the web.

After you disable the pop-up blocker, you will start receiving pop-ups on websites that have them. This means that while you may gain access to necessary pop-ups, you may also be exposed to unwanted advertisements or potential security threats.

You can also check out this video about how to turn off the pop up blocker on an iPhone for more information.

Introduction

In the ever-evolving world of smartphones and mobile operating systems, iOS 17 has brought a fair share of updates and features to the table. One aspect that doesn’t get as much limelight but is essential for user experience is the control over pop-up blockers. Pop-ups can be a mixed blessing – they can either guide us to relevant information or bombard us with unwanted ads. For iPhone users, managing pop-ups is a straightforward process, but it can have significant repercussions depending on how you use your browser.

Pop-up blockers were designed to make our online experience smoother by preventing annoying ads from disrupting our browsing. However, there are instances where disabling the pop-up blocker is necessary, such as when a website requires pop-ups for functionality or when you need to access critical information that’s only available through a pop-up window. This feature is particularly relevant for those who browse a lot on their mobile devices and need that extra control over their browsing experience.

In the Safari settings, you will find various options to customize your browsing experience, including the pop-up blocker feature.

This option is usually turned on by default to protect users from intrusive and potentially harmful pop-ups.

Additional Information

When you disable the pop-up blocker on your iPhone, you’re not just opening the floodgates for all pop-ups; you’re also taking your online experience into your own hands. It’s important to stay vigilant and recognize that not all pop-ups are created equal. Some may be helpful, but others can be downright dangerous, containing phishing attempts or malware.

If you’re ever in doubt about a pop-up’s legitimacy, it’s better to err on the side of caution and avoid clicking on it. Additionally, consider the websites you frequent the most – if they’re reputable and secure, you may have fewer risks when turning off the pop-up blocker.

Remember too that this setting is not set in stone. You can easily toggle the pop-up blocker on and off as needed for specific browsing sessions. This flexibility is a testament to the user-centric design of iOS and the iPhone as a powerful tool for both work and play.

  • Open iPhone’s main Settings and navigate to Safari.
  • In Safari settings, scroll to “Block Pop-ups.”
  • Toggle off the “Block Pop-ups” option to disable the pop-up blocker.

Failed on first two websites

I turned this on in Safari Private Mode and see ads all over CNN and FOX8. Three or more per page. Then I turned off acceptable ads. All but the most annoying ad disappeared. Does not block NPR Paywall overlay.

The Best Ad Blocking Tool

I’ve used Adblock Plus for Safari for about two years, along with two other ad blockers. Recently I upgraded my iPad to iOS17. Suddenly got ads all over the place! I checked the Adblock Plus and readjusted my enabled websites list, and closed the iPad, then re-opened it after a few minutes. Voilá— no more ads! This app is much more efficient than the other two ad blockers I used before. My suggestion to anyone having ad problems after installing an iOS update is just to check and recalibrate your Adblock Plus, and close your device, then re-open it. I really hate ads, so I love this app.

Stopped Working

After updating to iOS 17, this app has become completely useless. The thing I loved most about this app is that it would stop ads from opening their own tab in safari but it no longer prevents that from happening & just all around stopped blocking ads for me. Hoping it gets fixed cause this is the only adblocker I’ve ever liked. Other apps block pop up windows but they still open & say “this content is blocked” which you then have to close the tab. That never happened with Adblock Plus, it would literally prevent an advertiser from opening a window PERIOD. Hence why it’s my fav 🙁

No matter how they appear, it's a scam.

If these are sliding in the from the top right of the screen, a site you visited has given itself permission to send push notifications.

Open Safari's preferences. Click on the Websites tab and then scroll down to Notifications . Clear any entries in the right hand window. You might find something similar in the Pop-up Windows heading below that. Block any you don't recognize.

Then if you want, uncheck the box below as shown here.

I personally can't think of any reason why I would ever want any website to push notices to me.

I haven't selected the select button to "take care" of the viruses. Just wondering if anyone else has seen a similar message? 1287 2

How To : Block Those Annoying Cookie Consent Notices from Appearing on Websites in Safari

Block Those Annoying Cookie Consent Notices from Appearing on Websites in Safari

As a means to combat annoying and intrusive advertisements in Safari , Apple added native support for content blockers on the iPhone. Instead of being bombarded by notifications, banners, and pop-ups, content blockers prevent them from opening, which can also be said about those annoying cookie consent notices that many websites now have.

Anytime you visit a website, a cookie file is saved on your device that contains information about the website and you, including a unique ID and personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, and phone number. The website then uses this cookie whenever you visit the next time so that they can uniquely tailor this experience to you. For example, if you've placed a few things in your shopping cart, this information is stored in your cookies, so the next time you go to the website, these products may still be in your cart.

Not everyone is okay with how companies track important information via cookies. So the European Union passed a law called the GDPR , which essentially requires websites to get your consent before collecting your data. That's why you may see websites asking for permission to your cookies with annoying banners that sometimes take up the entire page.

  • Don't Miss: How to Block Popups in Safari on Your iPhone

Not every cookie consent banner is the same, however. On some websites, you must accept all cookies to continue using them. On others, you have choices for which types of cookies to allow. Some allow you to ignore the banner and won't collect your information. And then there are websites that have cookie consent banners to let you know about their cookie policy, and it will still collect your information even if you ignore it.

If you don't care about cookie policies, you probably ignore these banners. And if you do, content blockers can help you block these banners so that they don't appear in the first place. Although the website may still collect your information, you no longer have to worry about these cookie consent notices filling up your page. And as a bonus, it won't block ads so that you can continue to support the sites you visit.

Step 1: Install the 'Hush for Safari' App

"Hush for Safari," created by developer Oblador AB , is a simple yet powerful service that blocks those annoying consent notices asking you to accept cookies whenever you visit a new website. The app works as a content blocker (without blocking ads), so it simply guides Safari to hide these notifications without asking for access to your private information, unlike other blockers.

You can check out its App Store listing or even its source code to ensure that they're not tracking or collecting your data.

Step 2: Add It to Safari's Content Blockers

Before you can use Hush for Safari, you must first toggle it on as a Safari content blocker. To do so, launch the Settings app and go into "Safari." Next, scroll down and tap on "Content Blockers" under General . If you don't see "Content Blockers," it's because you don't have a content blocker installed on your iPhone (so make sure Hush has downloaded all the way).

In Content Blockers , you should see Hush for Safari listed as "Hush." Tap on its toggle to enable it. You don't even need to open the app itself, although you should see whether it's enabled or disabled if you do.

Step 3: Browse Safari Without Cookie Consent Notices

Now, whenever you visit a new website, i.e., a website you have never visited before, you should no longer see cookie consent notices. Below you can see the European Space Agency website with a cookie consent notice (left) and without one when Hush for Safari is enabled (right).

In case you want cookie consent notices back, to see which websites track your cookies, go back to Settings –> Safari –> Content Blockers, then toggle off Hush.

Why didn't the bureaucrats who dream up their wonderful-make-our-lives-better-by-making-them-more-complicated-and-insufferable stuff make an exception for having websites that have THREE cookies only - username and password and a third one that I suppose might be useful for this - a "areYouRegisted" flag, a "doYouWantTwoFactorAuthenticationAndWhichEmailAddressToUseForIt", "preferredDisplayName", "preferredLanguage" - something. Limit these to whatever a reasonable length would be (20 Unicode characters probably - make that 64 or 128 bytes). I guess you might want to require the "sign up page" to include a warning, "This website will use a cookie to store your username and password ONLY".

Yes, it could maybe be abused. But the system already CAN be abused (that's why the GDRF exists, right?) Of course, Liberals (capital L only) don't seem to understand the phrase "compliance cost". And the fact that it applies to BOTH "producers" and "consumers" - an "annoyance factor". And before "they" say, "that doesn't matter".. Aren't they the same ones starting to finally whine about screen-time and distractions and such? (Don't get me started on over-signage on US streets possibly CAUSING more accidents.)

(Though it should already have a preferred display name and language. I suppose this would be if you had a website that could function with only making ONE server request - on login, that's it. But the people who hire web programmers don't care about efficiency, and must assume we ALL have OC-768 lines directly into the companies' server farm - and no one else on that farm when your accessing it)

How To Enable Pop-Ups on Mac in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox

Nick deCourville

Knowing how to enable and disable pop-ups on a Mac can be useful for several reasons. While you might need them for interactive website functions like login forms and notification alerts, you might want to turn them off if they become intrusive. Should you use a browser that doesn’t appear on this list, you will likely be able to find pop-up options within their respective privacy and security sections. It may take some exploring, but the above solutions should give you an idea of the pattern to follow. You may also want to know how to enable third-party cookies for the most popular browsers on Mac .

AdGuard v7.17 for Windows: on-the-fly DoH connection filtering

We just rolled out a major release with two important additions, thanks to updated CoreLibs. First up, we enhanced the Encrypted ClientHello feature, which amps up your privacy protection. Plus, we’ve introduced on-the-fly DoH connection filtering for even more security. Let’s dive in and explore.

Enhanced Encrypted ClientHello

AdGuard for Windows supports ECH as an experimental feature. It helps us to encrypt the very last unencrypted bit of information, thus improving your privacy level. We are working hard to resolve some technical issues so that it can become one of the default options for users. The updated CoreLibs is another step towards that goal.

On-the-fly DoH connection filtering

CoreLibs v1.14 also allows us to implement on-the-fly DoH connection filtering. Why is it so important? Previously, if you set up DoH in a browser but not in AdGuard, we had to filter requests directly in the browser and send them to the system DNS (unencrypted). This process lowered the level of security for such users. Now the situation is completely different. With on-the-fly DoH connection filtering, we can filter DNS requests in the browser without sending them to an unencrypted server.

We also made some minor fixes here and there, updated WFP and TDI drivers, as well as DnsLibs.
