Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ Tour Has Bad Blood, Good Will, Sex Appeal and Serpents

The opening night of the pop superstar's first stadium trek showed what fans in 36 cities have in store. Swift touches down at the Rose Bowl this weekend.

“So you’re wondering why there are so many snakes onstage, right?” Taylor Swift asked the crowd on the opening night of her “Reptiles” — sorry, “Reputation” tour. It’d crossed the collective mind of the capacity crowd of 59,000 inside University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. on May 8. The golden snake microphone might have required a bit of squinting to make out, but it was a fairly in-your-face move to position three enormous inflatable snakes around the stadium, hovering over the two rear stages as well as the main one. It’s not like anybody needs  a good reason to float over a football field’s worth of fans in a snake-shaped cage, but Swift intended to explain how pop’s most celebrated cat lady had come to claim cobras as her new spirit animal.

“Someone called me a snake on social media, and it caught on,” Swift said, not even coming close to naming a name but clearly referencing the moment when Kim Kardashian, injecting herself into the feud over Kanye West’s “Naked” video, subtweeted Swift with some snake emoji, uncoiling a whole Twitter campaign meant to embarrass the singer. “I went through some really low times because of it,” she continued. “I went through some times when I didn’t know if I was gonna get to do this anymore.” Of course, if the bad-rep-embracing “Blank Space” taught us anything, it’s that Swift is wise to the modern way of taking ownership of the epithets used against you. Why call in St. Patrick for an exorcism when you can just go scaly on a massive scale?

Swift didn’t bring up any molting metaphors, but those are implicit in all the snakiness, too. The recitation about how the old Taylor is deceased and can’t take our call was present, as expected, in “Look What You Made Me Do” — delivered in concert not by Swift but Tiffany Haddish, in a crowd-pleasing video cameo. The two-hour show had plenty of fierceness to go with that, especially in the early going. But it still had plenty of moments where you would have sworn it was pre-decedent Taylor on the line… the guileless Swift we remember from two or three skins ago. There will be bad blood, and a few kraken to unleash, but at the beating heart of it all, we’re still left not so much with dragons or defensiveness but in the endearingly earnest presence of pop’s most approachable superstar.

Last fall’s “Reputation” was an album of many love-and-war juxtapositions. The backlash from the whole Kimye-gate brouhaha had a creative silver lining, in that it gave Swift some newfound rejection to write about — the public kind — right at about the point she was apparently falling in love and no longer finding fodder in romantic schisms. As a result of these seemingly contradictory experiences, “Reputation” ended up feeling like the most self-protective  and  most tenderly openhearted album she’s ever done.

This tour has those same contradictions to deal with, seeing as the set list is dominated by 14 of the 15 songs from “Reputation” (omitting only “So It Goes”), with 10 oldies — most of them also from the Max Martin/Shellback school of programming — squeezed into thematically appropriate intervals. The demands of modern choreography and ever more massive production design dictate that some of the emotional underpinnings are going to remain just that. But she uses her two hours on stage to paint a rewardingly holistic picture, even if there’s a lot of distance to travel between naive Taylor (“Love Story”), sexy Taylor (“Dress”) and karma-is-mine-sayeth-the-Taylor Taylor (“Look What You Made Me Do”).

The vast scaffolding on stage, sometimes visible behind the translucent 172-by-40-foot video screen enveloping it and sometimes not, suggested some kind of enormous underground city. Taking up residence two or three stories up was her usually unseen band, who would very occasionally send a lead guitarist down as emissary. Her dancers get to display a lot more personality, though it was a ways into the set before they warmed up from their initially militaristic, deep-maroon look and manner into warm, playful foils. They, too, receded when Swift took an airborne trip in that snaky cage to her rear stages for some more intimate material.

One of the dancers did follow her to the back of the stadium when it was time for her to do “Dress,” the latest album’s PG-13 sensual reverie. The white-robed figure ran complementary circles around her, with artificially extended arms weaving folds of white fabric through the air. For much of the show, Swift had worn a succession of feisty one-pieces, like a Wonder Woman who favored darker colors. But for the more erotic “Dress,” she added a sheer black gown to the ensemble, somehow getting sexier by adding a layer. As the interpretive dancer teased her, it was almost as if Gal Gadot had been given an abstract love scene in the middle of all that WWII super heroism.

But it’s the Alone Time With Tay on the other rear stage that most fans will treasure most. There was a two-song solo segment with just Swift and her guitar, half of which consisted of her proving that the recent album’s “Dancing With Our Hands Tied” worked as well acoustically without the Max Martin-izing. The other half will apparently be a wild-card slot. On opening night, she acceded to online demand by resurrecting the rarely played breakup ballad “All Too Well,” the song that’s like a secret handshake among True Swifties. (In two subsequent shows, she’s replaced that with “Wildest Dreams” and “The Best Day.”) During these two songs, she put ona Nudie’s-style jacket that perhaps was meant to subliminally refer back to her country days… although Porter Wagoner probably never had a coat with rhinestones formed into a coiled snake.

She also spent a few minutes alone at a piano, turning the fan anthem “Long Live” and the romantic ballad “New Year’s Day” into a contented medley of acceptance. Mash-ups also occurred during segments that were fully produced and full of more nervous energy; everyone’s celebrity-feud favorite, “Bad Blood,” morphed into her a song of teen betrayal from her debut album, “Should’ve Said No,” maybe to reinforce that life never stops being high school.

Swift occasionally played older sister to her audience. “I guess with the snakes,” she told the crowd, taking a pause at that piano, “I wanted to send a message to you guys that if someone uses name-calling to bully you, and even if a lot of people jump on board with it, that doesn’t have to defeat you. It can strengthen you instead.”

It was a nicely maternal moment. But it was also nice to see Swift prove that she’s not so much older and wiser that she won’t troll back. Midway through the set, Swift let her inner brat out to play with a “Shake It Off” that turned into a slumber party, with opening acts Camila Cabello and Charli XCX returned to the stage. That spirit returned at the very end, when the older hit “We Are Never Getting Back Together” segued into a taunting deep track of more recent vintage, “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” which just happens to be a blatant eff-you to her foremost celebrity tormentor. No longer bound by either choreography or maturity, Swift and the dancers cavorted in a fountain, offering up a figurative middle finger, and the impishness of the celebration felt liberating — a capper that felt almost punk-rock in foregoing any usual show-closing stateliness. The snake inflatables had already been put to sleep for the night, but you could imagine them purring.

The “Reputation” tour reaches the third of its scheduled 36 cities with stops at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena Friday and Saturday night.

As tens of thousands of fans who filled CenturyLink Field eagerly waited for Taylor Swift to take the stage, a video splashed on two massive screens showed die-hard fans’ reactions to seeing her “Look What You Made Me Do” video for the first time. One particularly enamored Swiftie was barely audible.

Eyes wide, mouth agape, the creeping suspicion he’s witnessing something colossal becomes increasingly visible on his face. Pausing to take it all in and ascribe some sort of meaning to the experience, all he can muster is, “(Expletive!).”

As Swift and her battalion of dancers, musicians and stagehands charged through her two-hour set Tuesday night, it was hard not to similarly feel like a doe-y fan in headlights as Swift’s stunning new tour rife with holy (expletive) moments was barreling down on you.

Screams filled the stadium like an army of high-pitched 12s as Swift’s silhouette emerged in a puff of smoke to blast through a biting version of “ … Ready for It?,” the opening track off last fall’s “Reputation” album. Swift drew heavily from her new material, which proclaims the death of “old Taylor” on her chart-topping hit “Look What You Made Me Do.” For better or worse, tabloid drama has become an inextricable part of the superstar’s career, both fueling her music as well as distracting from it. The “Reputation” album and stadium tour seem to set a torch to it all, letting the world know she’s done merely shaking it off.

A cobra is the Reputation Stadium Tour’s unofficial mascot (and perhaps Tay Tay’s new spirit animal), widely believed to be inspired by a Kim Kardashian dis tweet . A tangle of snakes mesmerizingly slither and lash on two giant video screens, which later morphed into an auxiliary stage for Swift’s band, as six shirtless dudes bang colossal drumheads, thunderously taking out “King of My Heart” with Swift splitting for one of many wardrobe changes.

The production on her new juggernaut of a tour is astounding, and four cities in, the execution was nearly flawless. After performing a few songs from two small stages amid the crowd — including a confetti-blasting “Shake It Off” with a cameo from opener Charli XCX — a cobra chariot carried Swift overhead and back to the main stage for a stomping “Bad Blood.” Black-clad dancers hung from the stage’s rigs and climbed around an industrial platform, revealed as giant screens opened, feeling like “The Matrix”—the musical.

Both Swift and London synth-pop singer Charli XCX paused at times to acknowledge their absent tourmate Camila Cabello, who canceled her Seattle appearance , citing dehydration, on what Charli XCX called a “girl-powered” tour.

While ticket sales nationwide were reportedly slower than usual, which some industry insiders attributed to a new “ dynamic ” pricing model, CenturyLink Field was mostly filled with moms, 20-something dudes and young girls testing the limits of the buddy system. (Swift later pegged Tuesday’s crowd at 56,000.)

Swift’s is a commanding stage presence, whether she’s unaccompanied and strutting across the stage in knee-high leather boots, or decked out as a sci-fi Egyptian queen flanked by her minions in movement. The only knock — and not an insignificant one — was that Swift’s vocals were often absent or ineffective. Amid the highly choreographed megaproduction, too frequently Swift’s voice was simply indistinguishable from her supporting vocalists.

She fared better during the campfire intimacy of two acoustic numbers — “Dancing With Our Hands Tied” and “Holy Ground” — though her voice wavered a bit on the former. A solo piano version of “Long Live” was another standout, her vocals not competing with the production’s pomp and circumstance.

Nevertheless, the vocal hang-ups weren’t insurmountable and the spectacle alone was worth the price of admission. Swift gave a master class in how to cap a stadium gig with what was refreshingly more of a knockout finale than applause-hungry encore (though cheer they did).

During her Gatsby-in-wonderland closing run, Swift and her pastel cohorts danced and splashed in a water fountain in front of a lit up mansion with carefree reverie. As “This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” ended in a fusillade of fireworks spouting through the stadium’s open roof and the cast of this triumphant Broadway-goes-to-the-Super-Bowl segment took their final bow, a parting message lingered on the screens.

“In the death of her reputation, she felt truly alive,” it proclaimed.

If “old Taylor” — or at least her “reputation” — is dead, long live the new Swift.

On December 13, 2018, Taylor thanked everyone for her birthday wishes on Instagram and also announced that there was going to be a tour movie for the Reputation Stadium Tour that would be released on New Year's Eve, titled Taylor Swift: reputation Stadium Tour . It was filmed at the last Dallas/Arlington show, which was the final US leg date. It featured the surprise song " All Too Well ".

Taylor Swift designed her own stage, complete with an elevator, and a rapid changing room for her eight costumes.

The main screen was 110 feet tall and and made of 12 columns and 1,5OO LED tiles that split into 49 individual screens that moved depending on the song. The stage design is an X shape and it also features a B & C Stage that Taylor accessed with the floating constellation and snake gondolas during " Delicate " and the " Bad Blood "/" Should've Said No " mashup. The band played right behind the main screen and during certain parts of the show, the screen opened and the audience could see them.

During " Look What You Made Me Do ", there was a giant inflatable snake named Karyn on the stage as well as smaller inflatable snakes on the B & C Stage and for the show encore, a water fountain was installed on stage. There were also fire, smoke and fireworks effects throughout the show from the stage. The LED bracelets distributed to the attendees were interactive with the songs and stage visuals.

Taylor Swift  extended her upcoming Reputation tour with seven new stadium dates, adding concerts in Santa Clara, California; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; East Rutherford, New Jersey, Foxborough, Massachusetts; Minneapolis and Arlington, Texas, Variety reports. 

General public tickets for the new shows go on sale Wednesday, January 31st at 10 a.m. local time. Fans can purchase advance tickets via Ticketmaster’s Taylor Swift Presale; registration opens Friday, January 5th at 10 a.m. ET and continues through Thursday, January 18th at 10 a.m. ET.

Members of Taylor Swift Tix, the singer’s exclusive Ticketmaster Verified Fan program, will receive priority access ahead of new registrants. The program, which the singer announced in August, attempts to block scalpers and bots from purchasing and reselling tickets.

The tour launches May 8th in Glendale, Arizona and concludes November 9th in Auckland, New Zealand.

Swift returned to Number One on the Billboard 200 with Reputation , her sixth LP, which she issued in November. Rolling Stone ranked the album the year’s third-best pop record and the seventh-best overall .

Sabrina Carpenter Has Hit Back At Speculation That She Is “Obnoxiously Horny” As She Explained The Deeper Meaning Behind Her NSFW “Nonsense” Outros

Sabrina has earned a bit of a reputation for her X-rated ad-libs, with the BBC even pulling her performance from its website last year.

When Sabrina Carpenter kicked off her Emails I Can’t Send tour in 2022, she introduced a fun new tradition to fans through her popular song “Nonsense.”

On her album, the track ends with Sabrina singing in an outro, “This song catchier than chickenpox is / I bet your house is where my other sock is / Woke up this morning, thought I'd write a pop hit / How quickly can you take your clothes off pop quiz?”

But during live performances, the star adds on another outro that is usually customized to the city or state where she is performing.

Before long, Sabrina had earned a reputation for how NSFW these new lyrics could be, with the singer even acknowledging how “vulgar” she is during her San Antonio show, where she told the crowd, “I just wanna ride him like a rodeo / But first he gotta grow it like Pinocchio / Sorry I’m so vulgar, San Antonio.”

Another example of her X-rated ad-libs is Chicago’s “Nonsense” performance, where she sang , “Water ain’t the only thing I swallow / I really wish I could play here tomorrow / My favorite city is Chicago.”

And Sabrina continued to embrace her sexual side when she joined Taylor Swift ’s record-breaking Eras tour as the opening act for her Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, and Singapore dates.

During the first night in Buenos Aires, the star teased , “How to ride it, I can think of five ways / My head goes so hard I’m giving migraines / How loud do you get in Buenos Aires?”

In Sydney, she sang, “When you go down under, do you miss me? / He’s so big, I felt it in my kidney / Screamed so loud they heard it here in Sydney!”

And at the final Singapore date of the tour, Sabrina shocked fans with these lyrics: “Told that boy to sit me down on all fours / I told that boy go faster, now I’m all sore / You hit a little different here, Singapore.”

Now, in a new interview with Cosmopolitan , the star has revealed that there is more to her X-rated lyrics than people may think, and she has actually learned a lot about her own sexuality by writing them.

She said, “It’s funny, too, writing the outros, because I feel like I’ve learned a lot more about sexuality through writing those than people think.”

“I think people think I’m just obnoxiously horny,” Sabrina added, “when, in reality, writing them comes from the ability to not be fearful of your sexuality, as opposed to just not being able to put it down.”

Sabrina famously ran into some controversy with her suggestive lyrics last year when the BBC pulled her appearance on its Radio 1 Live Lounge show from both its website and its YouTube channel.

In case you missed it, the star appeared on the British broadcaster’s show in February 2023. During a stripped-back “Nonsense” performance, she sang this custom outro: “I'm American I am not British / So BBC it stands for something different / This live lounge is just so lit because I'm in it.”

While “BBC” stands for “British Broadcasting Corp.” in relation to the global media company, the slang definition that Sabrina was referring to is commonly used with racial connotations in pornography. 

As soon as fans noticed that Sabrina’s performance had been removed, fans speculated that it was because of these risqué lyrics. This theory was seemingly confirmed when the video was re-uploaded with the star’s outro completely edited out.

But Sabrina took the whole thing in good humor , and when her tour reached the United Kingdom a few months later, she couldn’t resist making light of the situation in true “Nonsense” style.

The star sang during her Newport show in the Isle of Wight, “I thought he was the one, but it was too short / BBC don’t like my sense of humor / Everybody’s proper fit in Newport.”

Elsewhere in her Cosmo interview, the star offered readers her very own sex tips as she shared, “My advice is, do whatever feels most comfortable to you. You can be curious and ask questions, but a lot of it is just going to be you learning yourself. So do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and safe.”

Sabrina, who is reportedly dating Saltburn star Barry Keoghan , also revealed, “At the end of the day, my whole thing right now is, whatever you do, don’t get pregnant. That’s the way I’m living my life. So that’s my sex tip. Be smart. Use protection.”

Taylor Swift announced the first 27 tour dates of her Reputation   stadium tour via her Taylor Nation Twitter account early Monday (Nov. 13) morning. The tweet, captioned, “WE’LL SEE YOU SOON!” does not specify whether this is the entirety of the U.S. leg of the tour. 

Fans were also reminded to grab the album boost through Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program in order to snag the best possible access to Reputation   Tour tickets.

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

I toured Google's new $2.1 billion office in NYC. Here are the 15 coolest things I saw.

Google welcomed employees to its brand new $2.1 billion office in February in the Hudson Square neighborhood of New York City.

Called St. John's Terminal, the building is 12 stories high and was built on top of a rail terminal from the 1930s.

My friend, who works at Google, invited me to check out the new building as their guest during opening week.

Here are the coolest amenities I saw that make this office feel almost like an all-inclusive wellness resort.

1. The Great Hall

Once I got past security, I was shocked by the sheer amount of space in The Great Hall work lounge.

The lounge has super tall ceilings, cozy furniture, and a café where you can grab drinks like espresso, matcha, coffee, and chai with breakfast — all for free.

I got an Americano, a mini egg salad sandwich, a mini ham and Swiss sandwich, and a smoked lake trout tartine.

2. The fun furniture

The chairs, in particular, caught my eye. They were super vibrant and playful.

I did a quick Google Image search and discovered that the furniture might be a mix of designer and retail. There's a nearly identical-looking bulldog stool online that goes for under $90, and the yellow chair looks like a piece called "Klara," made by Spanish designer and architect Patricia Urquiola.

3. The fully-equipped gym

An entire section of the building is dedicated to the Recreation Center. It has amenities like a spin studio, yoga room, martial arts studio, a separate space for personal training, and even a coach's office for instructors.

4. The spin studio

Google offers weekly spin classes in the private spin studio.

5. The yoga studio

The natural wood yoga studio is right around the corner from the gym and has a calming glow of light.

6. This foot-washing station

The foot-washing station has a little bench you can sit down on, along with fresh towels.

7. The martial arts studio

Next to the yoga studio, there is a fully padded and matted martial arts studio.

8. The massage room and recharge room

The rooms have various percussive and compression therapy devices.

9. "The Shop" of Google merch

Next to the lobby café, there's a dedicated shop full of Google, Android, and YouTube merch. The fitting room alone is larger than the size of my college dorm room.

The items at the store ranged from T-shirts ($30), jackets (~$100), tumblers ($15), and children's books.

10. Google-branded pet accessories

There were even pet accessories branded with the Google logo.

11. The micro kitchens

Google's snack stations come equipped with a $20,000 La Marzocco espresso machine for coffee snobs, a $6,000 digital coffee brewer for the non-coffee snobs, a pile of fresh fruit, and drawers full of snacks.

12. The cafeterias and free food

The actual cafeterias at Google's new office are the ultimate benefit and charm of working here. This cafeteria, which is one of many, is a fully vegan kitchen with a beautiful interior and unlimited, sophisticated vegan dishes.

For lunch, I ate a whipped ricotta and beet tartine, a celeriac schnitzel with sauce Gribiche, and sweet potato kimbap with a side of berries. It was all vegan and very delicious.

13. The bathrooms

The bathrooms are an amenity in itself. Google's 12th-floor all-gender bathroom has a view of the NYC skyline with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Each stall is equipped with feminine product dispensers and full-length mirrors (but alas, no bidet).

14. The coworking spaces

The best part of the office was looking into all the coworking spaces.

Google says it designed the office so that teams are assigned to different "neighborhoods" or spaces in the office — employees don't have assigned desks, so there are a lot of communal and coworking spaces.

Each coworking space is decorated with a theme. I can see how the expansive ceilings and beautifully designed spaces inspire employees to leave their homes and come into the office.

15. The view of the Hudson River

And finally, the view of the Hudson River from the building is breathtaking.

The Google office at St. John's Terminal is so big that I didn't get to explore all of it.

It was opening week, and already the office was bustling with employees and visitors like me.
