And what fun it was! The organisation on the Scotland Tour was excellent, the choice of venues top class and 5 star in every way. I could not fault the tour in anyway whatsoever, Ainslie and Ben went out of their way to ensure a golf trip of a lifetime for everyone. Where to Play Golf Across the Pond in 2024

Thanks to the current unprecedented demand for travel, many golfers have already started to look ahead to 2024 golf trips across the pond.

If early inquiries and bookings are any indication, 2024 will once again see a record number of H&B travelers play the great links courses overseas.

In this guide, we’ll cover some of the best destinations for 2024 golf trips to Scotland, Ireland, and England.

We’ll also provide some of the important dates and other things to keep in mind during the planning process.

2024 Golf Trips to Scotland, Ireland, and England

St. andrews.

The afterglow of the 150th Open Championship is certain to spike demand for St. Andrews tee times in 2024.

Although demand has outstripped the supply of Old Course at St. Andrews tee times for years, 2024 is a little different.

Golfers around the globe were inspired by the scenes from The Open to plan a trip to St. Andrews, only to find that guaranteed tee times were already sold out for the coming year.

Some opted to visit another destination, while others chose to begin planning for St. Andrews in 2024.

Besides record demand, the supply of guaranteed tee times may tighten slightly due to The Old Course staging the Women’s Open Championship.

As a result, the booking window for 2024 Old Course tee times is likely to move even further in advance.

We simply can’t stress this enough…

If you’re hoping to play The Old Course at St. Andrews in 2024, you’ll need to start working with one of our Expedition Planning Managers before the calendar turns to 2023.

Update: Our tee times for The Old Course are completely sold out for 2024. We are currently fielding inquiries for 2025 Old Course at St. Andrews tee times.

West Coast of Scotland

With The Open Championship at Royal Troon , the West Coast is certain to be a popular choice for 2024 Scotland golf trips.

Of course, there are numerous reasons to visit Ayrshire and the West Coast besides the home of the Postage Stamp.

Next door to Royal Troon is the birthplace of The Open: Prestwick Golf Club .

Also nearby is Turnberry and its magnificent Ailsa course. Not to mention one of the best golf resorts in Britain.

And then there are the enigmatic links courses at Shiskine and Machrihanish Golf Club . Both of which are just a ferry ride away.

But if you’re hoping to play Royal Troon before or after The Open, remember that the course will close roughly a month before the tournament.

As a result, you and everyone else with the same goal will have fewer visitor tee times to fight over in 2024.

England’s Golf Coast

As the host of The Open Championship in 2023, Royal Liverpool and England’s Golf Coast will take center stage in the year ahead.

But the appeal of this region in 2024 isn’t just one, but three Open Championship courses .

Royal Birkdale – host of the 2026 Open Championship – and Royal Lytham & St. Annes are both just up the street.

So are Formby and Hillside. Two courses that would have no trouble fitting in on The Open rota.

With history as a guide, demand for 2024 golf trips to England’s Golf Coast will surge both during and after the tournament at Hoylake.

If you’re aiming to play Royal Liverpool in 2024, we suggest getting ahead of the crowd.

The Highlands of Scotland

The combination of Royal Dornoch and Brora Golf Club will continue to drive demand for golf trips to The Highlands of Scotland in 2024.

The splendor of The Highlands as a whole will certainly continue to attract buddies and couples golf trips alike.

But all eyes are on Castle Stuart , which recently joined the Cabot collection of golf destinations.

The change in ownership brings with it a 2nd course designed by architect Tom Doak.

The course is scheduled to open in 2024 at the newly rechristened Cabot Highlands resort.

Although the timeline is far from etched in stone, it’s yet another reason to put The Highlands on your next itinerary.

Northwest Ireland

Speaking of Tom Doak, his design at St. Patrick’s Links is certain to be a popular choice for 2024 Ireland golf trips.

Top 100 rankings are funny that way.

Located at the Rosapenna Resort , St. Patrick’s Links is the first course in Northwest Ireland to crack any of the World Top 100 lists.

But Northwest Ireland is far from a one act play.

Thanks to a recent redesign by architect Gil Hanse, Narin & Portnoo Links has quickly become a fan favorite.

When combined with places like Carne, Enniscrone, County Sligo, Donegal, and Ballyliffin, many golfers are left to wonder why they waited so long to visit Northwest Ireland.

We expect more golfers than ever to embark on Northwest Ireland golf trips in 2024.

Important Dates for 2024 Golf Trips

Old course at st. andrews tee times.

Haversham & Baker and other Authorized Providers will likely receive our allotment of guaranteed Old Course at St. Andrews tee times around this coming April.

But by January, perhaps even earlier, our entire allocation of tee times will be completely sold.

Simply put, the time to begin planning for 2024 St. Andrews golf trips has already arrived.

Let’s Talk .

Muirfield Tee Times

Aside from The Old Course, Muirfield is the hottest ticket in Scotland.

Nearby, the spellbinding West Links at North Berwick isn’t far behind.

Muirfield tee times for 2024 will likely become available this coming March.

Last year, the summer months at Muirfield were fully booked within a matter of hours.

It’s little wonder why… Muirfield is home to the best single day experience in golf.

One that is increasingly reserved for those who planned their trip early.

Royal Portrush & Royal County Down Tee Times

At the moment, Royal County Down finds itself atop the Golf Digest World Top 100 list. Meanwhile, Royal Portrush will host The Open Championship in 2025.

For both reasons, 2024 golf trips to Northern Ireland will again be a hot commodity.

Tee times at both courses will become available in May of this coming year, and like the rest of the marquee destinations across the pond…

They won’t last long.

Golfers at Royal County Down 2024

The Expedition led by Andrew Moley from Monterey Peninsula Country Club on the brilliant 4th hole at Royal County Down.

2024 Open Championship

The 152nd Open Championship will be held at Royal Troon from July 18-21, 2024. The effect on trips to the west coast of Scotland and Kintyre will stretch through the entire 2024 golf travel season, as golfers descend on the region both before and after The Open.

2024 Women’s Open Championship

The 2024 Women’s Open Championship will be held at The Old Course at St. Andrews. Dates for the championship have yet to be released, but if the event keeps its current place on the calendar, it should be held from August 1-4, 2024. The Old Course will likely be closed in the days leading up to and immediately following the tournament.

R&A Fall Meetings

It’s probably a good idea to avoid the month of September if you’re planning a golf trip to St. Andrews in 2024. The R&A holds a variety of meetings and competitions throughout the month, which closes The Old Course for numerous days in September.

2024 Dunhill Links

On the heels of the R&A fall meetings in September, the 2024 Dunhill Links will see The Old Course closed for a week or better. Dates for 2024 have not been determined, but the Dunhill Links is usually held around the last weekend in September or first weekend in October.

In summary, if you’re hoping to enjoy a 2024 golf trip to Scotland, Ireland, or England, you should begin the planning process sooner rather than later.

Scores of the H&B Forces have done exactly that of late, and early signs point to another record-breaking year for golf travel.

Can I bring my non-golfer partner?

Of course you can. Our tours are specifically designed so non-golfing partners enjoy the trip as much as their golfing partners. Our hotels are always central to towns and popular activities. We also create non-golfer itineraries that are crafted with the interests of the non-golfers in mind and that means we consult with you before we book any non-golfer activity.

Do I need a certain handicap to join this tour?

No, our golf tours are accepting of all golfers. Depending on the destination, some golf courses require you to have a certain handicap, and this will be expressed prior to any booking confirmation. Otherwise, you are welcome to join our golf tour as they are always inclusive.

What happens on tour?

Escorted golf tours are one of the most enjoyable types of holidays. Our groups are small and everyone gets to know each other on a first-name basis early-on in the tour.

On a golf day, breakfast is usually taken between 6:30 - 08.30, and our first tee-times are usually mid-morning. This allows for the early risers and late-goers to enjoy a two-hour period for breakfast. We like to keep the afternoons free for sightseeing, resort relaxation, shopping or general downtime. We usually restrict each day to having one activity, whether it's a half-day tour or round of golf, it's usually quite relaxed.

Apart from the welcome dinner and farewell dinner, we usually keep evenings free to enjoy whichever destination you are in. If you are travelling by yourself, the tour leaders have an open invitation to dine with them; if this is the case, you're in for a real treat as the tour leaders know where to go for the best meals. We always stay in destinations where local restaurants are either a short walk or short transfer away, so there are plenty of options to dine.

What is the make-up of your tour guests?

Over the decades, our tours average the following guest ratio: 70% couples, 30% singles. Our tours are comprised on average of 55% male and 45% female. One fact we are proud of is that our tours enjoy an average of 70% or higher repeat guest rate .

Are you an accredited travel company?

Absolutely. We are firm believers in travelling safely and with transparency. See our full list of accreditation here .

And all the programs can be extended to include other championship courses and resorts in Scotland, England and Ireland.

When you choose a program from The Experience St Andrews, you will be surrounded not only by the sights and sounds of this famous old place, but also local staff with specialist knowledge who will look after the details and make your stay even more memorable.

Call us and find out how we can use our passion, knowledge, professionalism and gift for hospitality to create the perfect golf experience for you.

Enjoy the world’s most historic golf course

St Andrews is one of those sporting venues whose importance extends above and beyond the competitions it hosts, making it is a must-visit destination for anyone with a passion for both golf and history. The sport (or something close to it) has been played on the Links at St Andrews since around 1400 AD and today the iconic Old Course is renowned throughout the world as the “home of golf”. The whole place is steeped in history. In 1457 golf was banned by King James II of Scotland (who accused it of distracting young men from their archery), and it wasn’t until James IV saw sense in 1502 – becoming a golfer himself – that the royal blessing was restored. Over the centuries, St Andrews has reached deep into the lives of those who have called it home and become a place of almost mythical intrigue around the world. By the 19th century, many local people had strong links to the Links – as players, caddies, ball makers or club makers. And more recently, the thousands of visitors making pilgrimages here have ensured golf is still a big part of St Andrews today. St Andrews Links is the largest golfing complex in Europe and all six 18-hole courses can be booked in advance.

Golf vacations at St Andrews – what's included?

The experience programs we offer are based on guaranteed Old Course tee times and can be adapted to suit varying requirements. Visitors come to St Andrews on their own, with their families, in groups of friends, with clients to entertain and with long-planned pilgrimages to make – and we welcome them all with enthusiasm, warmth, professionalism and attention to detail.

The Experience St Andrews has been appointed an Authorised Provider of Old Course Tee Times by the St Andrews Links Trust. This makes us one of the few suppliers able to provide guaranteed tee times for the Old Course.

The 5-Night Experience  includes five rounds, executive transfers to and from the courses, and a memories photo book of you playing he Old Course.

And then there is the  Father & Son Tournament . This is a five-day programme including a 72-hole two-man team competition, five nights' accommodation at the 5* Old Course Hotel and daily transfers to and from the courses, plus a Farewell Grand Dinner & Prize-giving in full Scottish attire (kilt hire and drinks are included). Players are presented with father & son gifts and sent a memories book to remind them of the event.

All the programs can be customized to ensure you enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Whichever programme you choose, our dedicated representative will be on hand throughout your stay to ensure everything runs perfectly.

We’re guessing your passion for the sport will also put golf breaks elsewhere in Scotland on your radar. That’s why we also offer programs taking in various other top-class Scottish golf destinations, including Gleneagles, Muirfield and many more.

It’s difficult to overstate the power of St Andrews as a magnet for golfers. But look a little further and you’ll find a lot to please those with interests beyond the fairways as well. Of course, Scotland offers a stunning spread of landscapes to be explored, and city sightseeing trips, distillery tours and excursions to castles, palaces and museums can all be arranged.  Contact us   to book or find out more.

Local staff with specialised golf knowledge will ensure every detail is taken care of.

Accommodation, the old course hotel.

The Old Course Hotel , St Andrews is one of the most famous hotels in the world amongst golfers. Due to this, it is one of most popular hotels to stay at during a golf trip to Scotland. Located alongside the iconic ‘Road Hole’ 17th, the hotel boasts spectacular views across the links towards the beach and the ‘Auld Grey Toun’. This 5 star hotel has over 140 rooms, 35 of which are suites, many of which overlook The Old Course. Whether you are looking for fine dining in the Road Hole Restaurant or casual pub grub in The jigger Inn, the hotel can cater for all. In addition private dining can be arranged for that extra special occasion.

Old Course Hotel

A favourite pass time for many is to enjoy a beverage at the Road Hole Bar watching golfers pass below them. Located on the top level, there is also a large outside decking area to enjoy those summer sunsets.

Away from the golf, guests can enjoy The Kohler Waters Spa, the first of its kind out with the USA. A whole host of treatments are available along with the use of pool, sauna and steam room facilities. The hotel is only a 5-minute walk from the centre of town. It is also just a 5-minute walk from The St Andrews Links driving range for those looking to work on their golf game. The Old Course Hotel is consistently ranked amongst the top leisure resorts in the country. It is a must stay if you are looking for luxury throughout your 2024 golf trip to St Andrews .

Edgehill House, Gullane

Edgehill House is a new property that has become available as a private let property. Therefore we are very excited to offer this to golfers planning a 2024 golf trip. The house is located in East Lothian and is set alongside the 1st fairway of the No.1 Course at Gullane. This stunning house boasts 7 luxury bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, cinema room and a swimming pool. A home from home, ideal for those larger groups or families. Edgehill House also offers the opportunity for you to have your own private chef to create a memorable dinner experience for your group. Alternatively, if you would prefer, specialists from local gin or whisky distilleries can provide private tastings.

Edgehill House

Edgehill House is only a few minutes travel from the famous Muirfield and North Berwick Links. The city of Edinburgh is also just a 30min journey away. Edgehill House is the perfect property for those looking for something extra special for that once in a lifetime golf trip – our top pic for exclusive venue this year!!

Scotscraig Golf Club

Located 12 miles from St Andrews, Scotscraig is the 13th oldest golf club in the world. The club was founded by members of the St Andrews Society of Golfers; later to become the Royal and Ancient Golf Club . Justin Rose was awarded honorary membership in July last year, 23 years on from when he tried to win his way through final qualifying for the 1995 St Andrews Open as a 14-year-old.

For your 2024 golf trip we would particularly recommend the Scotscraig Experience. The experience offers golfer’s a full day package, playing the championship course, learning the history of the club and indulging in some Scottish cuisine. The day starts with a meet & greet at the clubhouse by an ambassador from the club. Coffee, breakfast or soup & sandwiches are provided depending on arrival time. Golfer’s then enjoy a tour of the 120-year clubhouse followed by a course preview. There is then some time to warm up with teaching staff before heading out onto the course.

Scotscraig GC clubhouse

After the round, a traditional three-course Scottish meal is served featuring specifically selected local produce. A fantastic day is then finished with a whisky or gin tasting! – a perfect day for any golfer visiting Fife and amazing value for money!

Cruden Bay Golf Club

Cruden Bay Golf is located in Scotland’s North East approximately 30 minutes north of Aberdeen. Designed in 1899 by Tom Morris of St Andrews this traditional links course requires ability, creativity and imagination. Cruden Bay has a mixture of long demanding holes, picturesque par 3’s and a few short quirky par 4’s. As well as a few blind shots thrown in for good measures. It’s one of the few courses that you’ll likely play where you will use every club in your bag. Cruden Bay also has a 9-hole layout, the St Olaf Course, which is complimentary for any golfer playing the main course. A great experience for those up there for the day playing 27 holes and enjoying some wonderful food in the clubhouse.

Cruden Bay Golf Club 8th

Cruden Bay is consistently ranked amongst the top 100 courses in the world. It is a must play for any golfer visiting the northeast and one of our top picks for a 2024 golf trip. Check out our Northern Links Tour which features Cruden Bay.

Hi Sarah, Golf Vacations Scotland is the absolute best tour operator to work with!  I was given the task of arranging a last minute trip to Scotland and Sarah was an absolute godsend in helping pull everything together.  She coordinated the entire package from hotels, tee times, restaurants, transportation, etc.  This was all done with a high degree of professionalism and responsiveness.  When the crew decided to go to southwest Ireland next year, we immediately reached out to Sarah who delivered another top notch performance to set up a great itinerary with Golf Vacations Ireland for 2024.  I highly recommend GVI!!!
