With the international leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour kicking off on Feb. 7 in Tokyo, the quest for copping the viral blue crewneck has officially begun again. Basically, “look what you made me do” has a whole new meaning as Swifties in Japan are braving the winter weather to get their hands on merch like Eras Tour tees and hoodies.

In addition to waiting in lines almost as long as Swift’s 44-song setlist , heavy snowfall and winds are making it a struggle for fans like TikToker @weeenameco to pick up merch before their show.

To help with demand, Eras Tour merch trucks and stands have been opening up days before Swift takes the stage in each city. Going early is the best opportunity for Swifties to get exclusive Eras Tour merch before it sells out. And according to TikToker @jizellemaia, once an item, like the viral blue crewneck, sells out in your city, they are not restocking .

To give you an idea of how popular some Eras Tour merch is, the $65 blue Eras Tour sweatshirt was so popular that resellers were listing it for over $400 online. After everything fans have already had to deal with just trying to get tickets to The Eras Tour , there should be no bad blood getting merch as well. To avoid your day going down in flames, here’s how to make the most of your time at The Eras Tour, figure out which merch items are worth getting, and know what’s new in 2024.

You Can Usually Find Eras Tour Merch Days Before Your Show

“Take advantage of early merch” is one of @jizellemaia’s top tips for the Eras Tour, as everything is only available while supplies last. Times may vary from city to city, so your best bet is to keep an eye on Twitter, TikTok, or your stadium’s website for any updates. The merch booth in Japan opened two days before the first show at the Tokyo Dome on Feb. 5.

Since Eras Tour merch is typically found outside the venue, you don’t need a ticket to the show in order to shop. Select items will also be available inside for ticket holders the day of the show, but not every booth may have what you’re looking for if supplies are running low. I attended the second show in Las Vegas, and the merch table I went to inside the stadium wasn’t carrying the blue crewneck or even the show poster that’s exclusive to each city.

International Eras Tour Prices Are Relatively The Same

Before going to the Eras Tour merch truck or booth, here is a breakdown of the prices to see if it’s in your budget:

• Long Sleeve T-Shirt — $55

While prices appear to be the same internationally as they were in the U.S., currency conversion could work in your favor here, depending on the country. For example, the blue crewneck was $65 in the U.S., but is closer to $64 in Japan. Saving a dollar is worth it when being a Swiftie is so expensive .

The International Leg Has New Eras Tour Merch

While most of the Eras Tour merch for 2024 looks to be about the same — minus the change in city names and year — there are a few new items that Swifties peeped in @weeenameco’s TikTok. The first is a brand-new Eras Tour tote bag for around $27 — cheaper than the previous $30 one. Instead of a black tote bag with a colorful Eras Tour logo and the names of the U.S. tour cities, this international version is cream with a black logo on the front and the international cities on the back.

The second new item is a $17 Eras Tour towel that one fan on X, formerly Twitter, has already said they need “so bad.” It appears to be thin, so it’s not something you’d want to take with you to lounge on at the beach. Since these shows are taking place in the winter rather than the summer, it looks like the tie-dye tank has been removed as well, along with the white Eras Tour tee.

While it was possible to shop plenty of cute Eras Tour merch online last year, Swift’s online store is just in its The Tortured Poets Department era right now. So, going to the venue early is your best bet for getting Eras Tour merch. You could also look for Eras Tour crewneck dupes on Etsy, if you’d rather shop from your cozy, warm couch at home. Since anyone can go to these merch stands and most of these items have been available for almost a year, it kind of takes away the exclusivity anyway.

This slight fade is related to the product’s distressed, vintage look.

Also, Swifties have expressed their disappointment in the quality of the merch before. One specific design, featuring photos of Swift from different phases of her career on items like the aforementioned tote bag, has been known to fade. Swift’s team has come out saying this is an intentional style choice. “This slight fade is related to the product’s distressed, vintage look,” read a statement on Swift’s official online store .

Their statement also called out how fans should care for the items post-purchase, adding, “Please also note it is important to follow product care instructions as listed on the product label when washing and drying your items, to best protect and maintain the product’s look and feel.”

Ultimately, if you just want something to say, “I was there,” finding some of the less popular tour-exclusive items like the water bottle are much easier the day of your show. When I went to the Eras Tour, I only waited about 20 minutes at a booth right past security and was able to get the water bottle, baton, and shirt I wanted. Another booth around the corner had a much shorter line with the tote bag and show poster. There was also a main merch table right inside the stadium that still had everything.

Tips For Getting The Eras Tour Merch You Really Want

If popular merch items are a priority for you, I recommend showing up early when doors open and trying to get to the main table inside ASAP rather than waiting hours for the truck or booth outside. You can avoid some of the cold weather by going inside the venue, but remember to bring Eras Tour essentials with you if you do plan to camp out.

For anyone waiting for the merch outside, try to show up as early as possible to give yourself the best chance of getting what you want before it sells out. Be sure to check the inventory before stepping in line as well. They tend to run out of certain sizes early, and you don’t want to get to the front only to realize they don’t have what you need anymore.

If you do get the wrong size and you find another merch table that has the right one, Jordan Walker ( @fairytaleswift ) told Elite Daily that it’s possible to exchange. “We went to another [table] and they simply swapped sizes, so that was great,” she shared. Just give yourself plenty of time before the show to get all the merch you want. Swift’s set has been starting around 8 p.m., so you have from doors open till then to make all the purchases you need.

If you're looking to get your hands on a hoodie or a sweater commemorating your time at the Eras Tour, you're looking at around $55-75. On the other end of the price list, the cheapest items are the glow baton ($15), the reusable water bottle ($25) and the tote bag ($30).

There's a handful of items in the merch truck that are pretty much the same as what Taylor is selling on her website. The black and beige t-shirts are currently available to buy on Taylor's merch site, as well as the Eras 'bejeweled' bracelet. There's also variations on several of the hoodies available too.

Unfortunately, the viral blue crewneck sweater that everyone has been scrambling to get their hands on is not available to buy online. The sweaters are so popular that fans are also warning others that people without tickets have been queuing up to buy them in bulk in order to sell online at a much, much higher price.

You can buy a similar hooded version of it online, though. And tbh, it looks just as great!

There's also different items on Taylor's website that are not available at the merch truck or any of the booths inside.

Yep, according to reports from fans, there's also merch stands inside the stadiums too so you don't have to spend your time queuing in the long lines outside.

However, the booths inside will not have the same wide variety of items that the truck outside has. Fans have been able to get their hands on the cheaper items, such as water bottles, tote bags, posters and tour tees, but have had little luck finding the coveted sweaters and hoodies inside the venue.

What time does the Eras Tour merch truck stand open?

Based on several reports from fans who have already attended Taylor's shows, the merch truck opens at around 10am and closes between 6 and 7pm before the show begins.

Times may vary depending on the city though, so make sure you check the stadium's Twitter feed, and keep an eye on fellow Swifties who may be sharing any updates. (The truck also arrived a day early in Las Vegas giving fans the chance to get their merch the day before the concert.)

Taylor's first support act starts around 6:30pm and Taylor takes to the stage around 8pm. So if you want to make sure you're ready and in your seat with plenty of time to spare before Taylor kicks things off, make sure you plan ahead for the long queues at the merch truck!

Meet her at midnight. With her highly anticipated Eras Tour in full swing, demand for Taylor Swift's new merchandise is at an all-time high. But the good news is, you don't have to endure hours in line to secure the latest apparel. The new collection features hoodies, crewnecks, and T-shirts with a colorful grid depicting 10 different versions of Swift — one for each of her studio albums. And most of the items are easily accessible from her website .

In addition to the rainbow graphics, the Eras Tour merch also includes simpler styles like washed blue hoodies with classic black lettering, a white hoodie with a black-and-white collage of Swift, and cropped pullovers in beige and lavender. NBC Bay Area reported Thursday that the blue crewneck had already sold out after official merch stands opened early at Levi's Stadium ahead of the Friday and Saturday night shows.

Requests to Taylor Swift's official merchandise representatives for information on a possible restock in Santa Clara were not returned by publication time.

It's the kind of desperately coveted item that's only available at venues where Swift performs , and superfans are waiting for hours ahead of her two shows at the arena tonight and tomorrow in the hopes of buying one for around $75.

Taylor Swift's Merch Lines Are Wild Thanks to a Viral Blue Crewneck

If you thought getting a ticket to the Eras Tour was an impossible task (still waiting for my personal apology, Ticketmaster), try getting your hands on Taylor Swift’s merch. According to local news sources, the merch lines at Taylor’s shows are best described as endless—with fans quite literally camping out overnight to secure their purchases. Which, I mean, worth it.

According to WFLA , “hundreds” of Swifties lined up in the rain before Taylor’s Tampa show “armed with lawn chairs and blankets.” The line started forming around 10 p.m—aka 12 full hours before merch trucks opened—and then at 5:00 a.m., the police showed up and made everyone wait in their cars.

Meanwhile, the merch line outside Taylor’s Houston stop was so long that it was captured by a news helicopter:

“I was excited for the merch, especially the blue crewneck which has gone viral on social media,” a Swiftie named Elena Walters told WFLA . “I was very nervous and anxious about not getting it…So I just dragged my aunt down from Orlando to come with me so I wasn’t alone and in the middle of Tampa at night.”

Tay’s blue crewneck is THE item to have, especially because you can’t get it online. As 60-year-old Debbie Losee put it to the New York Times , “Every Swiftie wants the blue crew.” And in the immortal words of 20-year-old Emily Rottkamp (also to the New York Times ), “I’ve been having nightmares about getting this crew neck. I haven’t been sleeping.”

In case you’re wondering how much Eras Tour merch is going to set you back, WFLA reports that hoodies are running $75, crewneck sweaters and quarter-zip pullovers are $65, long-sleeved tees are $55, short sleeved tees are $45, tanks are $40, tapestries and bracelets are $35, posters and totes are $30, water bottles are $25, and glow sticks are $15.

And if you can’t get your hands on the blue crewneck, rejoice: You can buy a hoodie online to tide you over!

5 Things To Know Before Seeing Taylor Swift At “The Eras Tour”

Taylor Swift is touring for the first time since 2018 and has released four studio albums — Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights — in the five years that followed her Reputation Stadium Tour. Swift announced The Eras Tour on Nov. 1, 2022, just weeks following the announcement of Midnights, her tenth studio album. 

The timing of the announcements led some to believe that The Eras Tour would essentially become a Midnights-centric tour, but that wasn’t the case. Swift opened the tour on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona with a 44-track set list that spanned much of her discography to date.

Since a showing of The Eras Tour is a long concert bringing unprecedented fan turnout, you’ll have to consider different things than other concerts when preparing to see Swift on tour.

Wear Comfortable Shoes 

The Eras Tour can extend beyond five hours in length when you consider openers, intermissions and Swift’s lengthy performance. Though exact total times will vary based on the openers and final set list at each venue, Swift’s typical set list runs roughly three hours and 13 minutes. 

At the March 17 show in Glendale, fans remained on their feet for the entirety of the show, and other showings to date have displayed the same fan involvement. That’ll mean attendees will need to stand up to catch a glimpse of Swift for hours straight, most likely standing on concrete stadiums. To stay comfortable and avoid missing out, wear running shoes, quality sneakers or other sturdy shoes to the concert.

Don’t Stand In Line For The Merch Truck

The Eras Tour has brought incredible demand for tour merchandise, and some items have sold out at showings within minutes of gates opening. Though some merchandise items are available on Swift’s online store , others — like the highly-sought blue crewneck — are exclusive to the tour. 

Gates typically open for 6:30 p.m. showings two hours before the scheduled start times. A large merchandise truck usually opens at noon, with lines forming even before that. Though people have suggested standing in line for the merch truck hours before entering the venue, that isn’t the best way to be successful. 

Instead, wait in line after passing through the security checkpoint in front of the stadium’s gates. There are a multitude of merchandise stands inside the venue that have stock of all the most popular merchandise items. Waiting in front of the stadium gates will allow you to be the first to enter the venue, all but guaranteeing access to merchandise. 

However, keep in mind that not all merchandise stands have the same items available. Be sure to glance at the red tapestry showcasing available items before getting in line to wait. 

Bring Earplugs. Seriously.

A ton of people have suggested that concert-goers wear protective earplugs to The Eras Tour shows, and it’s easy to dismiss the idea. Of course, after paying hundreds of dollars to see Swift, attendees want to make sure they are enjoying the atmosphere to the fullest. 

Regardless, people going to The Eras Tour should seriously consider wearing earplugs to the concert. It’s not necessarily to protect the wearer’s ears from the sound of Swift’s music — that sound level is about the same as other stadium concerts. 

But not many other concerts have more than 70,000 people scream-singing lyrics at the top of their lungs for hours straight. Ever experienced ear pain because someone was screaming in your ear? That’s essentially what The Eras Tour can be, at times. 

And yes, you’ll still be able to hear all of Swift’s stunning vocals while wearing ear protection.

Make A Clear Bag Plan Before You Go

Most people attending The Eras Tour will be going to stadiums near their home, and may have attended those venues previously. However, Swift has enacted her own bag policies that may differ from the stadium’s typical policies. 

Generally, The Eras Tour has a stringent bag policy that requires all bags to be clear and not exceed 12” x 6” x 12” dimensions. A detailed list of prohibited items for Swift’s showing at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan can be found here , but check with your venue for the exact policy. 

To make sure your items are in compliance, make a plan before leaving to ensure nothing gets thrown away at the security checkpoint. It’s important to purchase a clear bag in advance, because prices will be higher at and around the stadium on the day of the showing. 

Ready Your Smartphone

The length of Eras Tour shows poses another problem, this time for your phone. Since the concert is upwards of five hours long — and attendees might have to travel before and after with their device — battery is a concern. To combat this, make sure phones are fully charged, low power mode is enabled and brightness is down when possible. 

Consider purchasing a portable charger for the event and remember to bring the right cables for your device. This could extend a phone’s life by hours, depending on the portable charger.

For people that plan to record a lot of photos and videos of the concert, check how much storage is left on your smartphone. A photo can take up as many as 25 megabytes of storage, with videos taking up gigabytes of space based on their length. To free up space, upload media to the cloud, save it to a computer or delete unnecessary apps for the time being. 

If you’re really in a pinch for space, Android users can utilize expanded storage with a microSD card or a USB-C flash drive. For iPhone users, the Sandisk iXpand flash drive can add up to 256 gigabytes of extra storage.

A line for The Eras Tour merchandise popped up early outside SoFi Stadium Friday morning, as Swifties were eager to get their hands on the goods.

Among the tote bag, water bottle, T-shirts, bracelet and posters, one piece of merchandise is hot hot hot.  It's the blue crewneck sweatshirt, selling for $65,

While most merchandise sold at the stands for The Eras Tour in the U.S. is available on the website, including a blue hoodie, the blue crewneck sweatshirt is exclusive to the shows – and the LA shows reportedly have the new version of the sweatshirt which includes international dates.

There was a merchandise stand outside the stadium Aug. 2 and there will be another one at Lake Park adjacent to SoFi Stadium, Sunday Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Taylor Swift's six  The Eras Tour concerts at SoFi Stadium take place Aug. 3-5 and Aug. 7-9. StubHub is selling tickets for some of the dates.

In her own words, Taylor Swift's latest album The Tortured Poets Department is a product of her personal life - which is often played out in the most public way.

Fans have already spent hours poring over her raft of new lyrics in the 31 new songs.

Two hours after its release, the singer announced The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, which includes 15 additional new songs .

From Kim Kardashian to Travis Kelce, here we take a look at who the lyrics might be about.

Analysis: Marriage, babies, break-ups - breaking down the album

Break-up with Joe Alwyn

Fans had been expecting a breakdown of the singer’s six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn - and they weren’t disappointed.

Even in the album title, there appears to be a reference - Alwyn and Normal People actor Paul Mescal revealed in 2022 they had a WhatsApp group chat with Fleabag actor Andrew Scott called The Tortured Man Club. Four months later news of Swift and Alwyn's split emerged.

The song appearing at number five in the new tracklist - often the slot reserved for the most meaningful song on each of her albums - is So Long, London, and is thought to offer new insights into her split with the British actor.

In the lyrics, Swift hints at wedding plans, singing: "You swore that you loved me but where were the clues, I died on the altar waiting for the proof", as well as being upset at having to leave London which she said she "loved".

She also makes a reference to "the house in the Heath" she left behind. The singer was often seen in Hampstead Heath with Alwyn when they dated, as he lived in north London.

"And I'm pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free," she sings. "Me locking myself away in my house for a lot of years - I'll never get that time back."

Swift was performing her Eras tour when it was reported that she and Alwyn had split - and the first show she played was in Florida, which is the title of one of her new songs, featuring Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine.

"The hurricane with my name when it came, I got drunk and I dare it to wash me away," she sings.

In another song, Fresh Out The Slammer, Swift discusses feeling isolated in a relationship. "Another summer taking cover, rolling thunder, he don't understand me.

"Splintered back in winter, silent dinners, bitter he was with her in dreams."

Romance with Matty Healy

Meanwhile, fans have interpreted the lyrics to the first song on the album titled Fortnight, featuring US star Post Malone, to be about British singer Matty Healy , whom she was rumoured to be dating briefly last year after her split from Alwyn.

Swift sings: "Sometimes I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me, but you told Lucy you'd kill yourself if I ever leave and I had said that to Jack about you so I felt seen, everyone we know understands why it's meant to be."

But who are Lucy and Jack - the friends the lovers are confiding in?

Fans have suggested Lucy could be Lucy Dacus, a singer in the band Boygenius, who is friends with Healy.

Meanwhile, Swift's close friend Jack Antonoff was a producer on the song.

While Swift doesn't namecheck Healy, a number of other songs appear to reference him, including Guilty As Sin where she sings about having "fatal fantasies" for someone from her past while in a relationship.

Fans are also suggesting the song The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived appears to allude to Healy "ghosting" her.

"You tried to buy some pills, from a friend of mine, they just ghosted you, now you know what it feels like."

New relationship with Travis Kelce

"I'm making a comeback to where I belong", she sings in her 15th track, The Alchemy.

This song certainly seems to be a nod to her blossoming romance with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce .

The song references American football terms including "touch down", "the team", "warm the benches" and "winning streak".

Swift began dating the athlete last year and her attendance at the Super Bowl made headlines around the world, including that kiss with Kelce after the Chiefs' victory. The couple recently attended the Coachella music festival together.

"Shirts off, and your friends lift you up over their heads," she sings.

"Beer sticking to the floor, cheers chanted, cause they said there was no chance, trying to be the greatest in the league, where’s the trophy, he just comes running over to me."

Kelce, who has recently landed a role as host of the game show Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?, said he listened to parts of the album and said it's "unbelievable".

Feud with Kim Kardashian

In one of the additional new songs, thanK you aIMee, fans have been decoding what they believe is a reference to Kim Kardashian. The letters capitalised in the title spell Kim.

Kardashian's ex-husband Kanye West infamously stormed the stage at the 2009 VMAs as Swift accepted her award for best video by a female artist, a stunt he later claimed in a lyric "made that b**** famous ".

Amid the row, Kardashian posted a video online of what appeared to be West on the phone with the singer, where Swift appeared to consent to the vulgar lines.

"I wrote a thousand songs that you find uncool, I built a legacy which you can't undo," Swift sings.

"But when I count the scars, there's a moment of truth, that there wouldn't be this, if there hadn't been you.

"And maybe you've reframed it and in your mind, you never beat my spirit black and blue."

She then appears to reference West and Kardashian’s 10-year-old daughter North West.

"And one day, your kid comes home singing a song that only us two is gonna know is about you."

After the album was released, Swift wrote on social media: "An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time - one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.

"This period of the author's life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed.

"And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.

"And then all that's left behind is the tortured poetry."

Taylor Swift has revealed that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” will be released earlier than originally announced.

The original date she released for her exclusive streaming deal was March 15.

This isn't the first time the singer-songwriter has pulled out a few surprises.

She announced her brand-new album “The Tortured Poets Department” – which is set to release on April 19 – during the Grammy's on Feb. 4. Shortly after that, Swift made a historic win with her fourth album of the year award for "Midnights."

This new version of "The Eras Tour" will have the entire concert film for the first time ever according to her Instagram post . This includes “Cardigan” and four new acoustic songs.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was filmed during the 2023 leg of Swift’s sixth headlining  concert tour, which launched in Glendale, Arizona . Glendale renamed itself Swift City  for the first two nights of the tour, March 17-18.

The movie was filmed during her Aug. 3-5, 2023, concerts at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Taylor Swift's New YouTube Compilation Is Full of Cute Nods to Boyfriend Travis Kelce

From a sweet kiss to cooking up some cinnamon buns, Swift's latest clip has plenty of moments connected to Kelce

Taylor Swift is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at her life, including some heartwarming moments involving Travis Kelce .

Shortly after the release of her new album The Tortured Poets Department , on Friday, April 19, the pop star, 34, shared a sweet promotional video for her single "Fortnight" on YouTube Shorts. And, as fans quickly noticed, she opted to share some cute nods to her relationship with the NFL tight end, 34.

Swift's "Fortnight Challenge," set to the tune of her new single with Post Malone and showed various candid glimpses of her life.

While some moments in the 15-second clip feature Kelce directly — like the Kansas City Chiefs player giving her a kiss in the kitchen — others are more subtle nods to the couple's very own "Love Story."

A kiss in the kitchen

About one second into the promotional clip, Kelce can be seen planting a kiss on Swift's cheek as she cooks something up in the kitchen.

It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, like most in the YouTube video, where Swift wears a black top and blue jeans as her partner rocks a black sweater with a red collar. While he doesn't show his face in the clip, the back of Kelce's head is visible as he shows some affection to the musician, who can't hide her smile during the heartfelt moment.

While Kelce didn't attend the University of Kansas as a Jayhawk — instead spending his collegiate career at the University of Cincinnati — Swift still showed some love for the school in her new video by wearing a KU crewneck sweater. After all, the NFL star is on the roster of the Kansas City Chiefs, who play less than an hour away from where the school is based in Lawrence, Kansas.

As the Kansas City Star notes, the musician's connection to the school dates far beyond her relationship with Kelce, too. She previously visited friend Abigail Anderson at the university in 2009, the outlet reports.

Cinnamon rolls, anyone?

Swift has been teasing her cinnamon roll-making skills on social media since a May 2020  Instagram post where she noted that she was "proud" of her recipe. But the sweet treat also has a connection to her partner Kelce.

During an appearance on  Audacy's AM 560 Sports WQAM  in December 2023, former NFL player Bernie Kosar revealed that the musician had cooked up some cinnamon rolls for Kelce during a previous game day. At the time, he revealed he " absolutely " gave the dish a try.

"That was at his house like three hours before the game," said Kosar. "We’re having pregame meal and Taylor is so nice she comes in by herself and she’s so cool, she brings, she made her homemade cinnamon rolls for Travis for pregame meal."

Repping the Chiefs

Another brief clip from the video shows Swift holding a Kansas City Chiefs paddle on what appears to be a pickleball court.

Of course, Kelce has been a tight end on the team since he was selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. And Swift herself has quickly become a big fan of the team, attending multiple games in support of her partner.

Swift, who performed six Eras Tour shows at the Singapore National Stadium in Kallang in March, also included a wholesome glimpse of her time in the country in her latest upload. Kelce came to support his girlfriend during the international run of gigs, and in the singer's behind-the-scenes video, a couple — seemingly Kelce and Swift — can be seen holding hands while surrounded by lights during their world tour date.

Taylor Swift ’s vulnerability is her superpower.

From the glorified diary entries of her 2006 debut to her 2024 album of the year Grammy winner “Midnights," she has proudly worn her heart on her sleeve.

That heart is bloodied and battered, but ultimately beating on “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift’s 11th studio album that she surprise announced while collecting the first of two more Grammys in February.

Then came a bigger surprise when, at 2 a.m. Friday, Swift declared that "TTPD" was really a double album, with "The Anthology" tacked onto the the title and the addition of 15 songs to join the initial 16.

These 31 pensive pop tracks are the antithesis to “Lover.” Heartbreak and misery wrapped in melody. Rainbows faded into sepia tone. An era endured not enjoyed.

"TTPD" is bookended with a prologue – a poem by Stevie Nicks – and an epilogue framed as Swift’s summary report as the chairman of The Tortured Poets Department (Chaos, “leads the caged beast to do the most curious things,” she writes).

As she grapples with blame for the fizzling of a six-year relationship, she isn’t worried about pride. Former boyfriend Joe Alwyn is the obvious unnamed antagonist in most songs ("My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys"), though Swift shoulders plenty of culpability ("The Tortured Poets Department" title track).

With these songs, Swift pulls listeners into the depths of misery catalyzed by a public breakup while she staged the biggest concert tour in history. It's an exploration of extremes told with intimate details. Is this her “Tapestry" ? Her “Blue" ? Her “Like A Prayer" ?

Maybe the old guard still isn’t ready to anoint Swift to the echelon of Carole King and Joni Mitchell (Madonna? Absolutely). But “TTPD” springboards off Swift’s vibrant storytelling on “Folklore” and “Evermore” and spotlights the open-hearted confidence she presented on those musically minimalist albums.

Swifties can exhaust themselves excavating lyrical clues in the F-bomb-dropping “Down Bad” (“If I can’t have him, I might die”) and surmise if “But Daddy I Love Him” is funny or cruel (“I’m having his baby. No I’m not, but you should see your faces”), but it hardly matters.

Like the most successful artists in history – The Beatles and Beyoncé, perhaps – Swift is untouchable. Critic proof. Adored whether she unveils a masterpiece or a stopgap collection of songs.

“TTPD” falls closer to masterpiece territory, if not musically – similar cadences and production from Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner coat many songs with the same sheen – then lyrically.

It’s a bonafide headphones album, best experienced in the quiet to fully absorb the sadness and exasperation in Swift’s voice when she sings in the resentful “So Long, London,” (“I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free”) and her ache on the melancholy piano ballad “Loml,” which will make your heart feel raked over with nails.

What guests does Taylor Swift have on her new album?

Post Malone is dancing closely to the fire known as "Call John Legend For a Feature" with his high-profile drops not only on Swift’s album, but Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter.”

While he offered a pedestrian contribution with Beyoncé, Posty fares better on “Fortnight,” the opening song on “TTPD” which he co-wrote with Swift and Antonoff.

A gentle thrumming in the background cushions Swift's darkly funny lyrics (“I was a functioning alcoholic ‘til nobody noticed my new aesthetic”) while Post Malone dips into the mesmerizing rhythm with some sweet vocals.

It’s also one of two songs to namedrop Florida. But the second, “ Florida!!! ,” co-written by and co-starring Florence Welch, is the standout, with Swift and Welch trading vocals over a stomping backbeat that is both cinematic and purposeful.

While it’s impossible to out-lyricize Swift, Welch nudges impressively close with her self-penned contribution: “Barricaded in the bathroom with a bottle of wine, well, me and my ghosts had a hell of a time.”

These two are ideal companions, musically and philosophically.

‘I Can Do it With a Broken Heart’ is one of Swift’s best Trojan horses

Synths flutter, an electro-pop beat pulses and the melody is structured as one of Swift’s trademark glistening pop gems.

But then the lyrics of “I Can Do it With a Broken Heart” kick in and Swift travels through the most potent psychological exploration of “the show must go on” since Smokey Robinson and The Miracles described “The Tears of a Clown” in 1967.

“I’m a real tough kid,” Swift sings, defiant as ever. “They said baby, gotta fake it til you make it … and I did.”

With humor and grace, Swift unfurls the anguish she hid while remaining very visible the past year, including blasting through an awe-inspiring three-hour show several nights a week on her world-spanning Eras Tour. But the song achieves liftoff with the dichotomy of Swift’s honeyed voice and her chant-singing, “I’m so depressed, I act like it’s my birthday, every day.”

It’s a clever entry into the complexity of mental health, and Swift, she of limitless ambition, flips her sorrow into something constructive, a Superwoman unbowed by pesky things like misery.

“I cry a lot but I am so productive,” she chirps, tongue firmly in cheek. “It’s an art … you know you’re good when you can do it with a broken heart.”

The capper is Swift declaring, “I’m miserable and no one even knows it!” as she laughs through the end of the song. But after recognizing what she’s endured, even her giggles lacerate.

Who is Clara Bow?

One of the most intriguing songs on “TTPD” is named for a 1920s-era silent film star and the layers run deep (paging all excavating Swifties!)

Is the choice of an actress who was seen and not heard on film a metaphor for her life with Alwyn, a cornerstone of which was privacy?

Or, as Swift sings from an observational post, does she merely resemble the alluring dark-lipsticked 20 th century star?

The wispy ballad finds Swift mimicking the words she (possibly) heard in her upstart years, such as “You look like Stevie Nicks ,” before the storyline comes full circle with a new rookie being told, “You look like Taylor Swift … you’ve got edge, she never did.”

It’s meta, yes, but Swift often subscribes to glancing back to lunge forward – always saturated in poetic sensitivity.

What is ‘The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology’?

The 15 additional songs Swift dropped a mere two hours after providing an emotional wallop with the first batch include four of the tracks already announced as bonuses: “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross” and “The Black Dog.”

Among the others, Swift is especially pointed on the gently swelling acoustic guitar-based “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus,” a song that seemingly references her fling with Matty Healy (she laments being unable to save someone who “needed drugs” and was always just out of reach).

Her strongest vitriol, however, is reserved for “Thank you, Aimee,” which fans surmise digs into her feud with Kim Kardashian . But Swift is bold and forthright when schooling “Aimee” about her success in spite of criticisms – a familiar, if still welcome, page from Swift’s playbook.

A trio of “name” songs – “Cassandra,” “Peter” and “Robin” – are all winsome ballads couched in pretty piano melodies. “Peter” is especially endearing with its waltzing rhythm and Swift’s warm vocals on this ode to a childhood friend (“The goddess of timing once found us beguiling,” she sings).

But a highlight is the bouncy “So High School,” which finds Swift singing and strumming guitar with the breezy glow of ‘ 90s-era Sheryl Crow. Is her focal point current paramour Travis Kelce ? Lyrics including “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle” and “I feel so high school every time I look at you,” are significant indications. But more importantly, the song pulls Swift out of the sludge and into the sun.

Taylor Swift loves to fill each album with clues and puzzles — “Easter eggs,” as she and her fans call them — for her die-hard followers to decode over the ensuing weeks, months and (let’s be honest) years. Already, her new heartbreak-steeped album “ The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology ” has led Swifties to attempt to connect the album’s lyrics to events in the singer’s personal life — a hunt for literalism that Swift does not exactly discourage. With its apparent nods to exes (Joe Alwyn, Matty Healy), current loves (Travis Kelce), enemies (Kim Kardashian) and other famous figures (Patti Smith, Dylan Thomas), making sense of the double album, if that’s what you’re into, might feel like a full-time job.

Well, we can get into it. In the hours after the 31-track album dropped, we combed the new songs for references, allusions, tributes and more. We tried to keep our speculation grounded; there’s a whole internet where fans can run wild with their theories. We also skipped some of Swift’s more obvious shout-outs, though we are confident her fans will find a lot to like on Patti Smith’s 1979 album “ Wave .” Here’s what we hear on some of the standout tracks after a few first listens.

Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)

“ I was supposed to be sent away/ But they forgot to come and get me/ I was a functioning alcoholic ”: While “functioning alcoholic” might raise some eyebrows — and it’s never safe to assume every lyric should be taken as gospel, this being art — booze is a common theme for Swift, who started mentioning alcohol quite a bit on her 2017 album “Reputation.”

“ You smoked, then ate seven bars of chocolate/ We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist ”: Puth, a pop singer who has had a decent amount of success — his 2015 track “See You Again” earned three Grammy nominations — is probably having a really interesting Friday.

“ You told Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave/ And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen ”: Listeners assume she’s talking about Boygenius member Lucy Dacus as well as her close friend and producer, Jack Antonoff.

“ A tattooed Golden Retriever ”: Possibly Matty Healy, the 1975 singer to whom Swift was romantically linked last year.

So Long, London

All the hints leading up to “Tortured Poets” led fans to speculate that Swift would be singing about heartbreak, namely her breakup with Alwyn, a British actor. The two confirmed their split last April after six years of dating, and while Swift doesn’t go into detail on this track, it’s not hard to guess her inspiration for singing about London.

But Daddy I Love Him

“ The saboteurs protested too much/ … God save the most judgmental creeps/ Who say they want what’s best for me ”: Possibly a message to some fans, who signed a virtual letter protesting Swift’s choice of boyfriend when she was dating Healy because of his “racist remarks” and “offensive jokes.”

Florida!!! (feat. Florence + the Machine)

“ A timeshare in Destin ”: The northwest Florida beach is known for its clear water and white-sand beaches. The connection to Taylor? No one knows, but the tourism board is probably happy for the shout out anyway. Just watch out for those timeshare scams.

Guilty as Sin?

“ Drowning in the Blue Nile/ He sent me ‘Downtown Lights’/ I hadn’t heard it in a while ”: An apparent Healy reference. He has said Scottish band the Blue Nile, purveyors of synthy sophistipop in the 1980s, is his favorite act and that the song “Downtown Lights” inspired some of his music.

Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?

“ I’m always drunk on my own tears, isn’t that what they all said? ”: Swift skewers the public perception of her as well as her complicated relationship with being one of the most famous people in the world. She also hints at the criticism that she likes to play the victim.

I Can Do It With a Broken Heart

“ As the crowd was chanting more!/ … I was hitting my marks ”: There’s no direct reference to the ongoing Eras Tour in this song, but it’s not a huge leap to assume that Swift is talking about going out every night to perform in stadiums while dealing with a broken heart.

The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

“ Jehovah’s Witness suit ”: Possibly a Healy burn (referring to his dressed-up concert outfits).

The Alchemy

“ Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me ”: Although the timeline for Swift recording “Tortured Poets” isn’t 100 percent clear, fans have embraced this song as the “Travis Kelce song.” The singer and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end started “hanging out” around August of last year.

“ You look like Taylor Swift/ In this light, we’re loving it/ You’ve got edge, she never did ”: In another song about the pitfalls of fame, Swift highlights Clara Bow , a silent film star from the 1920s who was viciously scrutinized by the tabloids. Swift also gives a shout-out to Stevie Nicks, and ends the song referencing herself as she talks to a future star.

The Black Dog

“ And so I watch as you walk/ Into some bar called the Black Dog ”: The Black Dog is a bar in London that now boasts “Home to tortured poets @taylorswift” in its Instagram bio .

“ When someone plays The Starting Line/ And you jump up, but she’s too young to know this song/ That was intertwined in the magic fabric of our dreaming ”: Like many millennials, Swift knows her pop-punk, including the Pennsylvania band. Also, Healy once sang a bit of The Starting Line’s “The Best of Me” at a show.

So High School

“ Are you gonna marry, kiss or kill me/ It’s just a game, but really/ I’m bettin’ on all three for us two ”: Back in 2016, a reporter asked Travis Kelce to play “Kill, Marry, Kiss” about Swift, Ariana Grande and Katy Perry. Kelce said (“unfortunately”) he would “kill” Grande, marry Perry and kiss Swift.

It’s not about Aimee Mann! The uppercase K-I-M tells you that this song is about Kim Kardashian, the ex-wife of Ye (formerly known as Kanye West). Do we need to rehash this? Ye made a crude reference to Swift in a song, Swift expressed her distaste for it, Kardashian leaked an edited version of a phone call between Swift and Ye in which Swift seemed to consent to the use of her name, there was social media criticism and a Ye video involving a naked likeness of Swift … you get it. It is probably not speculative to say that Taylor Swift does not like Kim Kardashian.
