LIONS TOUR TO AUSTRALIA 2025
It was their first series win since 1997 and went to the deciding Test match in Sydney in front of the one of the biggest British & Irish Lions crowds ever.
The Tour to Australia in 2013 was a memorable journey across one of the most beautiful countries in the world and was a crowning glory for head coach Warren Gatland.
This was the Lions’ first Tour to Australia since 2001 and under the captaincy of Sam Warburton, they got off to a winning start in Brisbane. George North scored one of the greatest Lions Test tries of all time in a nervy victory in front of thousands of Lions fans.
Ahead of the second Test in Melbourne, Australia was awash with red as fans soaked up the delights of the Whitsunday Islands, Cairns, the Gold Coast, Uluru and much more. The Wallabies ground their way to victory to level the series and take four years of work down to the final 80 minutes in Sydney.
But roared on by a monstrous Sea of Red in the third Test, the Lions soared to one of their most comprehensive Test wins ever, dismantling Australia 41-16 to set the seal on the series. Click here to secure early access for Australia 2025 .

The British and Irish Lions have teamed up with production company Whisper to create a new in-house production division ahead of the rugby union side’s 2025 tour to Australia.
- Lions Productions to produce the official documentary for the 2025 tour and be responsible for in-house content production and exclusive behind-the-scenes content, including for the newly formed Lions Women’s team
- Lions Productions to also act as the in-tour productions company for Lions partners
- Whisper will film all in-camp content incorporating broadcast, highlight packages and official digital content
The Lions and Whisper previously partnered for the team’s 2021 tour to South Africa, which included producing the Emmy-nominated ‘Two Sides’ all-access documentary. The decision to form the in-house Lions Productions is intended to offer more in-depth content for fans throughout next summer’s tour.
“We are delighted to announce the formation of Lions Productions with Whisper which presents a milestone moment for the British and Irish Lions,” said Ben Calveley, chief executive of the British and Irish Lions.
“For the first time the Lions now has an exclusive, in-house content offering which will allow us to bring fans premium and engaging content throughout our tour cycle. We know how important connecting with our fans is and Lions Productions will allow us to do so like never before as well as providing greater value for our partners.”

Lions roar with Whisper in content production expansion
T he British and Irish Lions composite rugby union touring organization has today unveiled a multi-year partnership with UK sports and TV production firm Whisper.
Through the deal, the duo have created the Lions Productions arm, which will produce a documentary covering the men's team’s tour of Australia in mid-2025. In addition, Lions Productions will produce an array of in-house and behind-the-scenes content for the Lions’ women’s team, which launched in January and will tour New Zealand in 2027.
The deal builds on - and formalizes - an original deal between the Lions and Whisper which was struck in advance of the team’s tour of South Africa in 2021. Out of that trip, the documentary Two Sides was created by Whisper.
As was the case with that tour, Whisper will film the entire array of in-camp content that is produced in Australia - for broadcast, digital platforms, and highlights clips and packages.
The production firm will also act in an official capacity for the range of sponsors which will activate with the Lions in Australia, across the three tests in July and August next year.
That stable of commercial partners - at the moment - includes Fanatics, Canterbury, and Howden (front-of-shirt sponsor).
Whisper adds this contract to its extensive rugby union content portfolio, having been a multi-year production partner for the World Rugby governing body, and having produced a show for the New Zealand Rugby official streaming platform, NZR+, during the men’s Rugby World Cup last year.
In addition, the company is a production partner for the Welsh Rugby Union, and broadcaster S4C in Wales , as well as for the BBC (the UK public-service broadcaster) for the Women’s Six Nations competition.
Ben Calveley, the British and Irish Lions chief executive, said: “The formation of Lions Productions with Whisper presents a milestone moment … For the first time the Lions now has an exclusive, in-house content offering which will allow us to bring fans premium and engaging content throughout our tour cycle.”
In March, the Lions - alongside Rugby Australia - entered into an exclusive tie-up with the Pitch International sports marketing agency .
The two organizations have appointed Pitch as the sole international media rights distribution partner for the tour of Australia.
Carys Owens, managing director at Whisper Cymru (its Welsh division), added: “Our last partnership brought great success and we will once again draw on the expertise of our documentary, digital, entertainment, and broadcast teams to produce exciting content for this groundbreaking agreement.”
The Australia tour marks the first time since 2013 that the country will play host to the Lions, which as a side is made up of players from England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.
The three tests are set for July 18 (Brisbane), July 26 (Melbourne), and August 2 (Sydney).
In mid-October, the Lions unveiled IMG, the global sports and entertainment agency, as their worldwide licensing agency through 2027 .
In early 2023, meanwhile, the Lions and Rugby Australia launched a joint venture to combine their respective commercial offerings for the tour and brought in CSM as the tour’s exclusive sponsorship agent .
"Lions roar with Whisper in content production expansion" was originally created and published by Sportcal , a GlobalData owned brand.

Rugby’s rulers ignore the game’s marvellous heritage at their peril
The sport’s appeal is not just the shiny and new. It is also about tradition, fellowship and memories forged on small stages
S ome of us went back in time at the weekend. There was no Doctor Who-style Tardis involved, just an easyJet flight (beware their petty hand luggage regulations) to Scotland for a reunion of old student friends. It was good fun and, certain hairlines aside, reassuring to find out how little people had changed in the 40-odd years since we first encountered each other in the stylish salons – OK, the saloon bars and Spud-U-Like shops – of Edinburgh in the 1980s.
And because it was a lovely afternoon on Saturday and we fancied reminding ourselves of our former athletic selves, a few of us decided to wander up the road and take in a game of club rugby. Heriot’s v Watsonians playing in – checks notes – the FOSROC Super Series Sprint. Sitting behind the posts at Goldenacre, with the sun shining and Edinburgh’s ancient skyline shimmering in the distance, the evocative old venue really did seem appropriately named. We all enjoyed the day immensely.
As it happened, the Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend was also there, watching his 22-year-old son Christian playing at full-back for Heriot’s. And when we piled into the clubroom for a mutton pie – £2, don’t examine the filling too closely – it was impossible to miss the large number of framed photographs of ex-Scotland internationalists hanging on the wall. You know you’re getting older when faces of a vaguely similar vintage are now dripping in sepia.
By sheer coincidence, one of our number found himself staring up at a picture of his own grandfather. Back in the day Dan Drysdale was one of the foremost full-backs of his era, a stand-out player both for Scotland and the British & Irish Lions. The late Clem Thomas, in his History of the British Lions, described Drysdale as having “played marvellously throughout as a running full-back” during the 1924 tour to South Africa. The following year, in 1925, he was a similarly key member of the first Scotland side in history to secure a grand slam.
Almost exactly a century later, it felt a timely moment to pay our respects to the fabled legend. Just as it did, a little further along the row of pictures, to touch the (vanished) forelock in tribute to another brilliant local full-back. Even in faraway rural England, some of us saw Andy Irvine as a supreme sporting hero, his constant can-do enthusiasm for counter-attacking among the global game’s most glorious sights. It reached the point where my adolescent mind started to wonder if “Heriot’s FP” stood for “Fabulous Players” rather than “Former Pupils”.
Remarkably, another celebrated attacking Test full-back, Ken Scotland, was educated at the same establishment, making the lineage even more impressive. People used to talk about whistling down the mines of northern England for fast bowlers or monitoring the production line at Max Boyce’s Welsh fly-half factory. If there is a Scottish equivalent for full-backs, it can be found a well-struck punt away from Edinburgh’s Royal Botanic Garden.
Which begged a slightly broader question. If the Heriot’s No 15 jersey rates among the most mythical of British and Irish club jerseys, which other garments merit potential inclusion in the ultimate kitbag? The blue and black No 9 of Cardiff should certainly be in the frame, with Gareth Edwards and Terry Holmes just two of the distinguished alumni to have worn it. How about the red Munster No 10 jersey, worn so memorably by, among others, Tony Ward and Ronan O’Gara? Or the blue Leinster No 13 shirt, forever synonymous with Brian O’Driscoll?
There are plenty more contenders, clearly, just as there are endless old stadiums inhabited by the ghosts of rugby’s past. If you are passing Redruth, for example, go and pay homage to “Hellfire Corner” and imagine the ominous studs of ferocious Cornish packs of yesteryear clattering towards you. Or, alternatively, stand for a while in the Shed at Kingsholm and visualise those cold, dark evenings when Cherry & White forwards would eat innocent Oxbridge half-backs for tea, howled on by home supporters who, in many cases, viewed a trip to Cheltenham as an exotic awayday.
after newsletter promotion
In short, we are talking about heritage. Rugby has loads of it and, right now, it is not terribly in fashion. The professional game has morphed into something very different – vastly improved in numerous respects, less fabulous in others – and anonymous-looking new stadia have largely replaced the old school cathedrals.
Which is fine, up to a point. Any game that stands still will stagnate; a sport that lives in the past is inevitably doomed. But when, the other week, the hugely promising England forward, Chandler Cunningham-South, confessed to having no idea his mentor Richard Hill had been a World Cup winning flanker in 2003 it further served to underline how quickly rugby’s once-central pillars can fade into the background.
The aforementioned FOSROC Super Series, introduced as recently as 2019, is the latest casualty, set to be scrapped this year in the ceaseless pursuit of change. Exactly how the Scottish domestic scene will look in future remains unclear but mutton pies, old school full-backs and simple pleasures are not obviously part of the zeitgeist. If it is smart, though, the game will realise rugby’s appeal is not just about the shiny and the new. It is also built on tradition, fellowship and an enduring truth: the best sporting memories are not always created on the biggest of stages or the most high-profile of days.

Visit Moscow Zoo
Moscow Zoo has more than 5,000 animals, so it really has something for everyone. Whether you are a fan of butterflies, bears, leopards or llamas, get close to these magnificent animals and learn more about them.
The brainchild of Professor A.P. Bogadanov, the zoo was established in 1864. At its height of popularity, 200,000 people came here annually to see its animals, which included lions and tigers. At the beginning of the 20th century, it fell into disrepair. Battles took place here during the 1905 Russian Revolution. Following a period of decline under Soviet rule, the zoo underwent a series of renovations in 1991, 1997 and 2014. Now visit this pleasant place to view more than 750 different species.
Look for the zoo’s distinctive entrance, which was built to commemorate Moscow’s 850th anniversary in 1997. As you enter the zoo, note the rustic stonework and quaint towers, which give it the appearance of a mythical castle made of rock. Come through its doors to see the myriad animals inside. Big attractions close to the entrance include subterranean viewing platforms that allow you to watch penguins and sea lions frolicking in the water.
See the incredible endangered Far Eastern leopards. Just dozens of these natural inhabitants of Russia, China and Korea remain in the wild. Other big cats held here include the rare white tiger and the Siberian tiger, another native Russian animal. Both polar bears and brown bears live inside the zoo too. Watch these creatures from a safe vantage point.
The zoo’s special facilities and activities will interest younger visitors. Come to the petting zoo and see baby chicks crack open their shells. Learn more about Russian fairy tales here, many of which feature chicken, cats and goats in leading roles.
The Moscow Zoo has an entrance fee. Reach the area via the metro to Barrikadnaya station. The zoo is open every day except Mondays.

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.
