The National Announces UK and European Tour Dates for 2024

by Em Casalena November 10, 2023, 6:04 pm

American rock band The National has announced additional tour dates in the United Kingdom and Europe for their current 2023-2024 tour. Their original tour dates that span the United States, New Zealand, and Australia will feature special guests Hand Habits, Fleet Foxes, and Annie Hamilton.

Videos by American Songwriter

The recently added tour dates will span countries including Italy, France, Germany, Croatia, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, and the UK. Special guest acts will include This Is The Kit, Bess Atwell, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Kevin Morby.

The band is also scheduled to perform at several music festivals in 2024, including Hurricane Festival, Southside Festival, INmusic Festival, and Live is Live.

The Grammy-nominated indie rock band will kick off their next stop on the First Two Pages of Frankenstein Tour today in San Francisco, California at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and close the tour at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark on August 6, 2024.

The National’s Matt Berninger recently talked about his experience on this tour in an interview with NME’s Andrew Trendell. “We’ve been playing a lot of really old stuff and some stuff that we haven’t played at all yet, so every night is a disaster in one fun way or another!” said Berninger. Fans can expect an eclectic mix of music from this tour.

Tickets for the US, Australia, and New Zealand leg of the tour are currently on sale via StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. General ticket sales for their European and United Kingdom leg of the tour will start on November 15 and 17. Presale tickets for the London and Edinburgh shows will be available on November 14.

The National has carved a niche in the music world with their distinctive Ohio-mixed-with-Brooklyn indie rock sound and profound lyrics. Formed in Cincinnati in 1999, the band consists of Matt Berninger (lead vocals), Aaron Dessner (guitar, keyboards), Bryce Dessner (guitar), Scott Devendorf (bass), and Bryan Devendorf (drums). Their music, often described as dark, melancholic, and richly textured, has resonated deeply with fans worldwide. Old heads will enjoy this tour’s notable mix of tracks from the band’s older and newer albums.

The National’s ascent to fame was marked by Boxer (2007), featuring the hit “Fake Empire,” which solidified their place in the indie rock scene. Another standout album, High Violet (2010), included the hit “Bloodbuzz Ohio”. The band’s most recent albums First Two Pages of Frankenstein and Laugh Track were released in 2023 with positive reviews. The latter is considered a “surprise” album that was announced only a few days before its release.

Tickets for the First Two Pages of Frankenstein Tour are selling out fast, especially in California and Texas. Snatch those seats while you can!

“We are excited to finally share our full tour itinerary for summer 2022,” the National said.

“The last couple years have given us ample time for reflection and rejuvenation. Summer 2022 is a time for reunion. We look forward to gathering with friends, old and new. United in music and light, suspended in time. We hope you can join us.” See the band’s full tour schedule below.

Tickets are set for sale Friday (April 1) at 10 am local time . The band will be partnering with Plus1 to donate $1 from each ticket to the PLUS1 Ukraine Relief Fund and also Buffalo String Works .

Marika Anthony-Shaw, co-Founder and CEO of PLUS1, told NME funds raised for the Ukraine Relief Fund will be used for “supporting humanitarian aid like food, shelter, and medical treatment” for the 10 million citizens forced to flee their homes and seek asylum after Russia’s February 24 invasion.

Anthony-Shaw added: “We will also be distributing funds to organisations serving the most vulnerable and those at highest risk of marginalisation. The PLUS1 Ukraine Relief Fund was designed to be responsive to disaster response, where needs and circumstances can change by the hour.”

Last week, Arcade Fire played a four-night stint at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom and raised $100,000 for Ukraine relief efforts through their partnership with PLUS1.

If you want your next trip to be to a country that teaches you history, feeds you heartily, and shares its rich cultural roots with you, choose Germany. We love visiting Germany no matter the time of year, so we put together this ultimate Travel Guide to answer all your questions about this unique Central European country.

The best time to go What to see What to eat and drink What to do Souvenirs to buy What to pack

Germany Travel Guide Basics

Currency: Euro

Language: While German is the national language, the country has several dialects that originated in different regions with influences from surrounding countries. Most people also speak English, especially in larger cities.

UNESCO-listed sites: Germany is home to an astounding 52 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but some of the most well-known are Cologne Cathedral, the Rhine Gorge, and the city of Berlin.

Best way to get around: There’s nothing more reliable than the German train system, or the Deutsche Bahn. Some of their trains travel at a regular pace and others are high-speed, getting you to your destination even faster. Either way, the Deutsche Bahn darts commuters and tourists alike to over 300 stations daily, both within Germany and to other countries like France and the Netherlands. So, whether you’re exploring a city or heading to a different part of Germany entirely, you won’t be disappointed (or late).

Phrases to know:

  • “Danke” means “thank you.” “Bitte” means “please.”
  • “Wo ist die toilette?” means “Where is the bathroom?”
  • “Sprechen sie Englisch?” means “Do you speak English?”

Fun fact: A very common response when being asked if someone would like to do one thing or another is “Ist mir wurst,” which translates to “This is sausage to me.” It’s a colloquial way of saying that you don’t have a preference.

UEFA EURO 2024 Trophy Tour continues through Germany

Thursday, April 25, 2024

Article summary

The Henri Delaunay Cup is making its way through Germany ahead of UEFA EURO 2024, and fans in the host cities of Frankfurt, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen have now seen the iconic trophy up close.

The Henri Delaunay trophy in front of the Frankfurt skyline

Article body

We’re just seven weeks away from the start of UEFA EURO 2024, and the festivities have already started in Germany as the Trophy Tour has been continuing to make its way through the ten host cities.

The event kicked off in Stuttgart on 22 March and has since been to Frankfurt, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen, with fans across western Germany getting the chance to see the iconic Henri Delaunay trophy and meet some special guests.

Excitement builds across the country

The second stop on the Trophy Tour was Frankfurt, where the silverware embarked on a photo tour through the city, including Frankfurt Arena, which will host five matches at UEFA EURO 2024.

The trophy was then put on display at the MyZeil shopping centre, where tournament ambassador Célia Šašić was in attendance alongside Host City ambassador and former Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Alexander Meier, who signed autographs for fans before taking part in a Q&A session with other local guests. Meanwhile, 11-time table football world champion Chris Marks showed off his skills, with two more tables available for fans to use.

The Tour then moved onto Cologne, which will also host five EURO 2024 matches. Tournament director Philipp Lahm accompanied the trophy on a photo tour ending at the German Sports & Olympic Museum, where fans were able to take pictures with the cup. Lahm then took part in a talk with Mayor Henriette Reker and Host City ambassador Toni Schumacher, who won the 1980 UEFA European Championship with West Germany.

In Düsseldorf, Lahm met Host City ambassadors Sandra Mikolaschek, a two-time Paralympian in para table tennis, and Selin Oruz, Olympic bronze medallist in hockey, following a photo tour taking in the sights of the city and inviting local football clubs to join in the fun. The Merkur-Spiel Arena will stage five EURO 2024 games, including the third quarter-final on Saturday 6 July.

The next stop was Dortmund, where fans were treated to an afternoon of fun family-friendly activities at Friedensplatz, including football-themed games and plenty of food and drink options. The trophy was paraded through the city, with stops including the German Football Museum and BVB Stadion, which will host six EURO 2024 matches, culminating in the second semi-final on Wednesday 10 July.

The trophy then made the short trip to Gelsenkirchen and the Arena AufSchalke, where four EURO 2024 matches are scheduled to take place. It was greeted at the stadium by Host City ambassador, 43-cap Germany forward and Schalke 04 legend Gerald Asamoah. Along with former teammate Émile Mpenza, Asamoah took part in a penalty shootout challenge before watching a tournament for local youth teams with mascot Albärt. Schalke players were also in attendance and signed autographs for the children, who could take photos with the trophy.

The Trophy Tour’s final stops

The UEFA EURO 2024 Trophy Tour now heads to the capital Berlin before making its last three stops in Leipzig, Hamburg and Munich, where it ends on 14 May, exactly a month before the tournament kicks off.

Through its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy , UEFA EURO 2024 aims to be a reference point for sustainability in the world of sports, and a driving force for sustainable development in Germany and beyond. The Trophy Tour is playing an important role by bringing the festivities to supporters across Germany, while fostering ties with local organisations and supporting grassroots football.

The national wwii museum announces dates for germany and poland educational tour.

With full-time guides and historians to add depth and context to every stop and special guests with firsthand recollections of the war years, travelers will have access to a uniquely immersive historical view of Germany and Poland as they travel in comfort to some of Europe’s most extraordinary sites. “During this tour, our guests will have the opportunity to truly delve into the beautiful capital city of Germany, seeing the major highlights of Berlin, including the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall and the Allied Museum,” said Jeremy Collins, the Museum’s director of conference & travel program development. “Following Berlin, the tour will move to Dresden, which was once one of the most important centers of modern art and dance in Germany. After Dresden, we’ll take guests to explore the unheralded beauty of Poland, from the Old Town in Warsaw to historic Kraków, the only large Polish city to escape the destruction of World War II.” The tour will then head thirty miles west of Kraków to the Polish town of Oswiecim, whose German name, Auschwitz, has become synonymous with horror and genocide. In 1940, the German occupiers took over this former army barracks and populated it with Polish political prisoners. As the war years went on, the Nazis expanded and refined the camp, imprisoning Jews from all over Europe here before sending them on to their deaths at nearby Birkenau. “This tour offers an amazing insight into World War II from the perspective of central Europe; here we experience the drama of Hitler’s rise to power in places like the Olympic Stadium and Wannsee in the city of Berlin, and begin to understand the madness that gripped Germany in the 1930s,” said Richie. “Then, in a journey that takes us from Dresden to Auschwitz to Warsaw, we see the devastating legacy of the Holocaust, the bombing raids, and the last battles. It is a highly moving, personal journey into one of the most important fronts of the entire war.” The cost for “The Rise and Fall of Hitler’s Germany” is $6,495 per person double occupancy and $8,490 per person single occupancy. The price includes a full-time logistical tour manager, luxury 5-star and deluxe 4-star hotel accommodations, and meals designed as social gatherings with WWII veterans and eyewitnesses throughout the program. Exclusions include airfare, incidentals and alcoholic beverages. For more information and registration, visit  http://www.ww2museumtours.org/germany-poland/ . Decorated historian  Dr. Alexandra Richie  will lead this tour of the area she has researched and written so much about. Her most recent work, “Warsaw 1944,” became the #1 best-selling book in Poland and won the Newsweek Teresa Torańska Prize for Best Nonfiction 2014, while first book, “Faust's Metropolis: A History of Berlin,” was named one of the ten top books of the year by Publisher's Weekly. She lives in Warsaw with her husband and their two daughters. She divides her time between the UK, Canada, and Poland, where she is Visiting Professor of History at the Collegium Civitas, an English-speaking University in Warsaw.

Such beautiful places to explore (Rothenburg & Residenz Wurzburg were a particular highlight... we would never have visited if travelling alone) Hotels were of a high quality... particularly loved the hotel in Nuremberg (facilities & breakfast were awesome) Location of all hotels were perfect. All airport transfers were on time and very professional. Tour transport was very comfortable- Mercedes Bus. We would definitely book with Indus Travel again as they responded quickly to all queries. What people love about 7 day germany tours.

The tour was good. The hotels were great and the breakfasts were plentiful. The bus driver was very safe and helpful with bags. The guides were of varying satisfaction. I was disappointed that the itinerary stated key sights we would visit but we didn’t actually go inside and free time didn’t allow for all the visits I wanted to do and we didn’t see everything on the itinerary. It was a good taster trip. I see much more on my own.

Bam margera addresses uk tour cancelation drama, adamant he's sober, bam margera addresses uk tour cancelation drama ... adamant he's sober.

Bam Margera 's clearing the air about why his UK tour got the axe -- and while some have suspected it's all about him falling off the wagon ... he's saying he's clean and sober.

Here's the deal ... Bam's been across the pond lately for a string of Q&A gigs he'd booked through a promoter -- where he was scheduled to talk to audiences ... all of which recently came to a screeching halt after the peeps he was working with announced the rest of his appearances were cancelled.

There's been a lot of accusations and drama brewing in the background this past week -- with allegations that Bam was acting erratic and rolling with a new crew of misfits.

Some online -- especially on Reddit -- have been claiming Bam's been indulging in booze and drugs again ... but he hopped online Thursday to deny all that, insisting not only is he alcohol-free ... but he had a perfectly good reason for canceling his shows in the UK.

Long story short ... Bam says he re-injured his knee, and that these shows are gonna get rebooked -- so it's no harm, no foul in his mind.

He does allude to some kind of physical confrontation between the people Bam's been staying with and the promoters ... but he says he wasn't in the mix for that -- so he doesn't think he did anything wrong. He also acknowledges he and his girlfriend have been fighting.

Last but not least ... Bam shoots down any notion he's been under the influence lately, pointing to the fact he's drinking tea in the video. Remember, this comes not too long after he got into a fistfight on the street here in L.A. ... so, thing have been a bit tumultuous.

Despite all that ... Bam is insisting everything's A-OK -- although, hard to say if folks buy it.

Here's hoping all is, in fact, well -- because there are many who are pretty worried about him.

PGA Tour players learn how much loyalty is worth in new equity program

Players who stayed loyal to the PGA Tour amid lucrative recruitment by Saudi-funded LIV Golf are starting to find out how much that loyalty could be worth.

The PGA Tour on Wednesday began contacting the 193 players eligible for the $930 million from a “Player Equity Program” under the new PGA Tour Enterprises .

The bulk of that money — $750 million — went to 36 players based on their career performance, the last five years and how they fared in a recent program that measured their star power.

How much they received was not immediately known. Emails were going out Wednesday afternoon and Thursday informing players of what they would get. One person who saw a list of how the equity shares were doled out said the names had been redacted. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because many details of the program were not made public.

The Telegraph reported Tiger Woods was to receive $100 million in equity and Rory McIlroy could get $50 million, without saying how it came up with those numbers.

Commissioner Jay Monahan outlined the first-of-its-kind equity ownership program in a Feb. 7 memo to players, a week after Strategic Sports Group became a minority investor in the new commercial PGA Tour Enterprises.

Brendan Steele of HyFlyers GC waves to the crowd during the second round of LIV Golf Adelaide at the Grange Golf Club Saturday, April 27, 2024 in Adelaide, Australia.(John Ferrey/LIV Golf via AP)

The private equity group, a consortium of professional sports owners led by the Fenway Sports Group, made an initial investment of $1.5 billion that could be worth $3 billion. The tour is still negotiating with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia — the financial muscle behind the rival LIV Golf league — as an investor.

Any deal with PIF would most certainly increase the value of the equity shares.

Another person with knowledge of the Player Equity Program, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the dealings, said the equity money is not part of the SSG investment. That money was geared toward growth capital.

Golf.com received a series of informational videos on the Player Equity Program that was sent to players and reported only 50% of the equity would vest after four years, 25% more after six years and the rest of it after eight years.

It also reported how the 36 players from the top tier were judged on “career points,” such as how long they were full members, victories, how often they reached the Tour Championship and extra points for significant victories.

Jason Gore, the tour’s chief player officer, said in one of the videos, “It’s really about making sure that our players know the PGA Tour is the best place to compete and showing them how much the Tour appreciates them being loyal.”

Emails also were sent to 64 players who would share $75 million in aggregate equity based on the past three years, and $30 million to 57 players who are PGA Tour members. Also, $75 million in equity shares was set aside for 36 past players instrumental in building the tour.

The program has an additional $600 million in equity grants that are recurring for future PGA Tour players. Those would be awarded in amounts of $100 million annually started in 2025.

Players only get equity shares from one of the four tiers now, although everyone would be eligible for the recurring grants.

Even with equity ownership geared toward making the PGA Tour better, the concern was players questioning who got how much and whether they received their fair share.

LIV Golf lured away seven major champions dating to 2018 since it launched in 2022, all with guaranteed contracts and most of them believed to have topped $100 million.

McIlroy, playing this week in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, was asked how much would make players feel validated for their decision to stay with the PGA Tour.

“I think the one thing we’ve learned in golf over the last two years is there’s never enough,” McIlroy replied.
