Until you have experienced The Radio Dept live, the term "dream-pop" does not hold much meaning. As soon as the alternative trio from Sweden break into the set with their laidback tune, "The New Improved Hypocrisy," a feeling of letting go and chilling out sweeps over the crowd. With their pared back stage presence consisting of Johan, Martin, Daniel, two guitars, and a keyboard/synth, it is clear the bands sole focus is on delivering their music without distraction. This is necessary as it allows the listener to fully immerse, and slip into a psychedelic trance-like state that the music leads them into throughout the set. Having been around since 1995, they play through some of their earlier work, then carry it on with more well known tracks "Keen on Boys," and "I Don’t Like it Like This," and then follow through with tracks from their third album, 'Clinging to a Scheme.' The transition from old to new songs is flawless, and the change in sound seems effortless as it merges into a more futuristic sound. After 14 songs, they announce their set is over, prompting the dazed and confused looking audience to call for an encore, with the band eventually obliging with the appropriately named "Lost and Found," and enthralling the audience once again with their inspired dream-pop.

I love this band. They're down to earth, play beautiful rhythmic, mellow, meaningful music that is a pure joy to listen to. Their messages are important but not in your face, which just makes you ponder introspectively and at the same time relax and enjoy the tunes.
I was able to watch the opening band GERMANS and the lovely voice Julia Kwamya, but had to drive home to Mississauga for a time sensitive reason. It sucked to have missed the first part of The Radio Dept's set, but I wasn't going to miss all of this concert. The second half didn't disappoint and I highly recommend seeing them. Great vibe at The Mod Club in Toronto. I hope that the next tour won't be as long a time as between the Lee's Palace show a few years ago and this one. I bought my tickets for this show 3 months ago and can't wait for the next one.
Sloboda Narodu indeed!
I really love this band but knew going in that it would be touch and go with a synth band with lots of Pro Tools and effects at Black Cat. (Ex Cults) . Some
bands are just better in the studio. This is a classic venue but not for that style of music IMHO. Some songs sounded great especially songs from the new album. Older stuff for example the classic "Heavan's on Fire" from Clinging to a Scheme sounded lackluster. Encore was only 1 tune.
All in all it was a $13 ($18) early show on a wed night and I'm still happy we went with friends to see them. 3 stars.
The Radio Dept. is one of my absolute favorite bands and it was cool seeing them live. However the show was kinda short, they played between 8-11 songs but that wasn't enough to really satisfy me. They also didn't play many songs from their various EP's or unreleased songs like "good cop gay cop", which I would have loved to hear. I still recommend seeing them live regardless.
I had been waiting to see The Radio Dept since 2006 as they have not visited Australia. I absolutely loved the performance. The band created a powerful, ambient atmosphere and seeing them live only heightened that experience for me.
I will definitely be seeing them again whenever they come back to the U.S. Everything they release is incredibly thought-provoking and fresh.
I love these guys, dont get me wrong but i´ve seen then 3 times and they do very short concerts, they dont do bises and never play old hits, even like this was great.
Amazeballs! Great show good vibes , awesome venue too! Band has major skill and hasnt lost that groove. If you have the chance to see them I wouldn't miss them at all!
It was amazing having The Radio Dept. in NY. My first time at their concert, waited for 9 years for this. It was amazing to experience their lovely musical universe.
