Third Eye Blind Announces Us Tour ‘Summer Gods: 25 Years In The Blind’ With Taking Back Sunday & Hockey Dad At Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre July 9

(DETROIT – February 14, 2022) – Third Eye Blind is proud to announce their tour “Summer Gods: 25 Years in the Blind,” with Taking Back Sunday and Hockey Dad at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 7 p.m.

Tickets (starting at $29.70 on the lawn) go on sale Friday, February 18 at 10 a.m. To purchase tickets in the Crest Ford pavilion, Ford Motor Company luxury seats and on the lawn, visit 313Presents.com , LiveNation.com , Ticketmaster.com or the XFINITY Box Office at Little Caesars Arena.

“Twenty-five years of Third Eye Blind finds us feeling glorious as if everything is coming into deeper focus,” says Stephan Jenkins. “It's not lost on us that this is a miracle, and that we are in it because of the new fans that keep discovering us and the people who, over the years, have made our music part of their culture.”

“In the early days of Taking Back Sunday, Adam and I used to drive around in his old Honda listening to Third Eye Blind's second album, Blue ; windows down, smoking cigarettes and singing along,” says John Nolan.  “If someone had told us back then that one day we'd tour together, it would've blown our minds. We're so excited to be out with Third Eye Blind this summer, singing our songs and singing along with theirs.”

The upcoming Summer Gods tour will be supporting the restoration of a portion of the Palos Verdes Kelp Forest. Called the Blind Reef, proceeds of each ticket will help our friends in the surf community at SeaTrees to restore the kelp ecosystem that sequesters carbon off the California Coast. In some parts of the state, more than 90% of kelp forests have disappeared in the last 10 years, caused by the proliferation of invasive purple sea urchins that humans are unable to consume. Clearing "urchin barrens" allows rapidly growing kelp to regrow and re-establish into a healthy kelp forest, creating habitat for marine life and sequestering carbon emissions. The latest science shows that globally, kelp forests can sequester more carbon than mangrove forests - restoring these sequoias of the sea is critical to solving climate change as 93% of all carbon in the carbon cycle is stored in our oceans (meaning just 7% is stored across our atmosphere and land biosphere.

This initiative is part of Third Eye Blind’s commitment to making the music touring climate more sustainable, a longstanding passion of the band’s front man, Stephan Jenkins. Jenkins is an avid surfer and studied marine biology in college, working to restore kelp reefs at the age of 18. In addition to a portion of ticket sales supporting this cause, fans will also have the option to “buy” their own square foot of the Blind Reef amongst other offerings such as beach clean ups, limited edition merchandise, and meet and greets for donations that will bring us towards the completion of the Blind Reef.

The stage design is inspired by Stephan's visit to the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale, where the Consortium installation , with its soaring steel and tree branches, evoked something aspirational and analog that is the vital core of Third Eye Blind's music.

To celebrate, the band has collaborated with Smith & Cult to create a line of nail polishes in honor of their 25th Anniversary and named after songs on their 6 times platinum debut. The colors are named: Jumper, London, God Of Wine, Semi-Charmed and The Background. They are donating 100% of the proceeds from the shade Jumper to True Colors United , the non-profit founded by Cyndi Lauper that implements innovative solutions to youth homelessness that focus on the unique experiences of LGBTQ youth.

Smith & Cult is a beauty brand that is the antidote to beauty sameness. Designed for humans who would rather be themselves than be perfect, who know how to have fun along the way. We create clean, cruelty-free beauty products to match every mood. Our iconic nail lacquer has an exclusive 8-Free formula that lets you go easy on the planet, hard on the nail art.

Third Eye Blind’s latest album Our Bande Apart (2021) is out now.

Third Eye Blind to Celebrate 25th Anniversary on Tour with Taking Back Sunday

Third Eye Blind Tour Poster

Third Eye Blind have announced a lengthy U.S. run with Taking Back Sunday and Hockey Dad

Alternative rock mainstays Third Eye Blind are back with a fresh round of tour dates for 2022. The trek, dubbed the “Summer Gods: 25 Years in the Blind” tour, will also feature support from Taking Back Sunday and Hockey Dad.

The tour is in honor of Third Eye Blind’s 25th anniversary as a band, dating back to their 1997 self-titled debut album. “Twenty-five years of Third Eye Blind finds us feeling glorious as if everything is coming into deeper focus,” vocalist Stephan Jenkins said in a statement. “It’s not lost on us that this is a miracle, and that we are in it because of the new fans that keep discovering us and the people who, over the years, have made our music part of their culture.”

Taking Back Sunday guitarist John Nolan says the tour pairing is a good fit. “In the early days of Taking Back Sunday, Adam and I used to drive around in his old Honda listening to Third Eye Blind’s second album, Blue; windows down, smoking cigarettes and singing along,” Nolan said. “If someone had told us back then that one day we’d tour together, it would’ve blown our minds. We’re so excited to be out with Third Eye Blind this summer, singing our songs and singing along with theirs.”

The tour will kick off June 22 and run through Aug. 13. View the full list of tour dates below. Tickets for the tour go on sale starting Friday (Feb. 18) at Third Eye Blind’s website.

All the fun is for a good cause, too, as Third Eye Blind are giving back to charity with the “Summer Gods” tour by donating to the restoration of a portion of the Palos Verdes Kelp Forest, named the Blind Reef. “Proceeds of each ticket will help our friends in the surf community at SeaTrees to restore the kelp ecosystem that sequesters carbon off of the California coast,” a press release states.

third eye blind tour 2022

“I just blew out my throat last night in the desert,” Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins told the crowd at the YouTube Theater. “But you know what? I don’t fucking care! I’m gonna sing every note like it’s life or death tonight!” Jenkins was in top rock star form on Friday night, in Los Angeles for the “Summer Gods” tour, celebrating 25 years of Third Eye Blind. Band members besides Jenkins and drummer Brad Hargreaves have come and gone in those 25 years, but you’d never know it from the tight, cohesive way the current lineup plays. 3EB treated the audience to a mix of old and new songs from their catalog, focusing mostly on their first three albums and their latest, Our Bande Apart . Jenkins took the stage in an all-white outfit and yellow beanie, playing guitar on most songs. The stage itself featured a sloping sort of ramp that could be used for the band members to walk up to Hargreaves (who was perched precariously on a riser at the top). The wall behind the stage was decorated with sticks and steel bars in a vaguely spooky way that was apparently inspired by a piece at the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale called “A World at the Edge” that Jenkins felt evoked “something aspirational and analog.”

Third Eye Blind started their set with “Ways” as an intro and went from there straight into “Thanks a Lot,” which had the crowd singing along with its high-falsetto chorus. New songs “Dust Storm,” “The Dying Blood,” and “Box of Bones” were mixed in with big hits like “Never Let You Go,” “Losing a Whole Year,” and “Jumper,” and all were well-received by the crowd. Jenkins noted that he was originally from Santa Monica and that he had friends and family in the audience, and proclaimed that this was the longest set they had played on the tour so far. The setlist also included deep cuts like “Anything,” “Faster, “Crystal Baller,” and “Palm Reader.” Guitarist Kryz Reid, who joined the band in 2010, dazzled with his playing even while he made it look effortless. Bassist Alex LeCavalier got so into some songs that he went into a split while playing, never missing a note as he did. Colin Creev, the newest member of Third Eye Blind, seemed to function as the band’s Swiss army knife, playing keyboard or guitar as needed, in addition to singing backup.

“You know, we don’t have any computers!” Jenkins declared proudly. “This is not a MacBook band!” After asking the audience what they’d like to hear, Jenkins played one song alone, an acoustic rendition of Beyonce’s “Mine,” a song that 3EB had released a cover of back in 2015. Jenkins seemed genuine as he addressed the crowd, saying that he and the whole band were extremely grateful to the fans for their love and support, before launching into their final two songs. They had kept their biggest hits in reserve until the very end: “Semi-Charmed Life,” and “How’s It Gonna Be.” Jenkins often turned the mic toward the audience on these numbers, so that the fans could scream out the words in unison. These last two songs served as an encore of sorts, without the band having to leave the stage.

Taking Back Sunday replaced original co-headliner Jimmy Eat World after the pandemic dashed the original plans for the Summer Gods tour two years ago. Frontman Adam Lazzara joked with the audience, swung his mic cord around his neck, and even laid on the floor as he sang one song. Rhythm guitarist Nathan Cogan’s energy was infectious, as he jumped and danced while he strummed. TBS played their new single co-written with Steve Aoki, “Just Us Two,” as well as fan favorites like “Timberwolves at New Jersey,” “You Can’t Look Back,” and “You’re So Last Summer.” “If you don’t know us, we’re Taking Back Sunday and it’s been a pleasure being your favorite new band,” Lazzara said merrily, before closing their set with their biggest hit, “Makedamnsure.”

Attendees who came late really missed out, as those who saw openers Hockey Dad will be able to say they saw them before they were big. Hockey Dad, hailing from Australia, consists of just the duo of singer/guitarist Zach Stephenson and drummer Billy Fleming. As a live act with touring bassist Steve Bourke, Hockey Dad functions as a power trio much like Nirvana – a magnetic frontman, an unassuming but powerful bass player and a steady timekeeper who hits every drumbeat hard and looks like he’s having a blast while doing it. Their set was strong and melodic, and they played their newest single, “T’s to Cross,” as well as material dating back to their first EP, 2014’s Dreamin’ .

Judging from the theater full of fans singing along to every word, the Summer Gods tour has been a resounding success. From here, the tour goes on to San Diego, then Las Vegas, and finishes in Irvine, California. Third Eye Blind has advertised that a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the nonprofit SeaTrees, to help restore a part of the Palos Verdes Kelp Forest called the Blind Reef.

Frankly, every song on Only God Was Above Us is worth waxing rhapsodic about. None of these songs feel dispensable, or feel like any other song on the record. Yet, it still feels like a cohesive collection of songs, its peaks and valleys carefully planned.

Third Eye Blind (formed in 1993) is an American alternative rock and pop rock band, known for their Top 10 single “Semi-Charmed Life”, hailing from San Francisco, California, U.S.

Prior to forming Third Eye Blind, musician Stephen Jenkins had become popular around the San Francisco area following a series of solo shows. After deciding to expand his sound with a band, by 1995 the singer was joined by former-Fungo Mungo bassist Arion Salazar, former student of Joe Satriani Kevin Cadogan, and former-Counting Crows drummer Brad Hargreaves. In the wake of burgeoning late ’90’s post-grunge scene, Third Eye Blind's music drew greater influence from the classic rock/pop of the 1980s, with Jenkins gaining significant attention for producing The Braids’ cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

By this point the band had developed a devoted following across San Francisco for a series of well-received shows and a 14-track demo tape. Following a pined-over slot opening for Oasis in 1996, and a band showcase in Los Angeles, California, Third Eye Blind signed with Sylvia Rhone of Elektra Records.

The group’s debut full-length “Third Eye Blind” was issued in 1997 peaking at No. 25 on the Billboard 200. Aided by three Top 10 Singles, “Semi-Charmed Life”, “Jumper”, and “How’s It Going to Be”, the album earned strong reviews and has been certified 6x Platinum. As a result, Third Eye Blind became one of the most popular U.S. rock bands of the tail-end of the millennium, and opened a number of shows on U2’s PopMart Tour.

Third Blind Eye released their sophomore album “Blue” two years later in 1999. Despite failing to reach the success of its predecessor, “Blue” was deemed the band’s strongest release by fans and eventually sold over 1.25 million. The album spawned the singles “Anything”, “Never Let You Go”, and “10 Days Late”, however shortly after the album’s release, writer and guitarist Kevin Cadogan left the group. Following a worldwide tour, the band took a hiatus from recording and performing, and built a recording studio in anticipation of subsequent releases.

The full-length “Out of the Vein” arrived in 2003, however due to Elektra Records’ merger with Atlantic Records, the album received no promotion. Third Eye Blind were later dropped from Atlantic Records, and a serious case of writer’s block for Jenkins made any new material look unlikely. A compilation album entitled “A Collection” appeared in 2006, supported by extensive touring of past releases, along with the EP “Red Star” in 2008. The group’s long-awaited fourth full-length album “Ursa Major” finally arrived in 2009, topping the Billboard Rock, Alternative, and Digital Albums charts.

Live reviews

One of my all time favorite bands is Third Eye Blind. They were my absolute favorite in high school, as I own every album and could pretty much sing each word from every song. Their debut is an instant classic; Blue has some of the best fan favorites from 3eb's discography; Out of Vein is my favorite breakup album of all time; and I even loved the mixed reviewed Ursa Major. It was the soundtrack to my fall of 2009 and is still a constant go-to in my usual listening.

Through the years I've seen Stephan Jenkins and company 10 times. They've played venues as large as 20,000 for Bamboozle Fest back in 2010, to as tiny as a smalltown live music weeknight fair in 2011. I've seen them everywhere from professional venues, casinos, an outdoor hockey rink to even Sea World. Every time has been amazing.

I'm clearly biased.

So when Third Eye announced plans for a new album, as well as a summer tour with Dashboard Confessional to accompany the new tunes, I obviously jumped on it. I bought tix to both House of Blues Orlando, and a pit seat for their St. Augustine gig at the Ampitheater two nights later.

Night 1 Review:

The Orlando show was the smallest venue Third Eye will play all summer long. They came on stage late (10:40) following an hour long set by Dashboard. Jenkins is no stranger to unusual stage antics, and this was the case in Orlando. He remained clocked in darkness for the first few songs. He sang using a hanging microphone from the back of the stage, only outlined by the flashing lights.

It seemed like is wasn't until the first few songs passed that you got a good look at the frontman. Stephan is beloved by 3EB fans for the effort and energy he provides at each show. Tonight was no different. The singer will turn 51 this year, but you would never know it. He bounces around stage and even proclaimed that he's never felt more alive in his entire life before this summer.

The setlist was very friendly for casual Third Eye fans. All the greatest hits were played, including radio hits 'Jumper,' 'Semi-Charmed Life,' 'How's it Gonna Be?' and 'Never Let You Go.' They also played setlist constants in 'Losing a Whole Year' and 'Graduate.'

For me though, the best part of a Third Eye show is the connection with the audience. That comes out best with fan favorites 'Motorcycle Drive By' and 'Slow Motion.' These songs get the most loyal fans singing along, uniting the room. The band seems to love it and it's always the lasting memory I have from 3eb shows. Most of these fans have been with Third a Eye for many years, and they show it here.

Overall, the Orlando crowd did it's job and it was a great show. I wouldn't expect anything less from Third Eye. Keep it up Steve!

Night 1 Concert Rating: 3.5 Stars

Round 2 Review:

I was back at it 2 nights later in St Augustine for a much larger venue show. The Ampitheater was close to capacity and the pit was bumping as Third Eye opened with the same tunes as the sun set. It was great to get back to St Augustine by the way. (first time since Mumford's Gentlemen of the Road stopover in Sep 2013)

It may have been due to the venue and acoustics, but right away I thought Steve sounded better on night 2. His voice was clear and he was rocking, stating early that he was in a mood to play all night long.

The setlist ended up being near identical to the Friday show, but I didn't mind. As mentioned prior, they played great tunes! This also gave me a chance to fully appreciate the new songs performed. Third Eye played 3 in total, including lead single for the new album - 'Everything is Easy.' This new tune proves Jenkins is still a capable songwriter and features a great hook.

The new album, entitled Dopamine, was just released a few weeks ago and I'm very excited to listen in detail. Even if 3eb never again reaches the peak they saw in the late 90's, it's clear they still have a great fan base that's satisfied to get some new music. Really proud of the guys for putting this out.

Some other highlights from Round 2 was a chilling version of 'Bonfire' and a crazy drum solo from Brad Hargreaves. Brad is the only other member from the original 3eb lineup when they were formed in 1993.

Overall, both great shows and I'll give the slight advantage to night #2. Stephan Jenkins sounded better for round 2 and you can't beat a full Ampitheater singing along with Third Eye's greatest hits. 3eb and Dashboard will continue touring together throughout the first half of the summer.

Night 2 Concert Rating: 3.5 Stars

If you are like me and hit middle school in the 00's, Third Eye Blind was probably your soundtrack to every road trip and every heartbreak. Most days, I can hardly get through all of “Out of the Vein” without breaking into a nostalgic episode—so you can imagine how I felt seeing them live during the summer of 2013, front row at Yankee Stadium. If you’ve ever heard a Third Eye Blind song, (and who has lived through the 90’s and hasn’t heard “Jumper”?) you know that Stephen Jenkins is a lyrical genius - and I guess the rest of their fans agree, because you could hardly hear the band over the crowd, who knew just about every word to every song. I swear the whole crowd went airborne with excitement during the chorus of “How’s It Going To Be,” another TEB classic.

Third Eye Blind falls into place somewhere between pop and post-grunge, and I’ve yet to see another band that combines the two genres so successfully. Splaying energy and passion onto the stage in the heart of the field at Yankee Stadium on a warm, intoxicated night, the band brought back teenage-hood for hundreds of fans, who, like me, will likely never forget the moment.

San Francisco rock group Third Eye Blind have had a varied career when it has come to commerciality yet one thing that has remained consistent is the passion and energy they invest into their live performance. They have been together as a group for over two decades and although there have been several lineup changes, the group stands as one onstage and all the musicians have a great rapport and in turn are very switched on to each other's instruments.

The crowd completely loves this interaction between the musicians and the devoted fans huddled towards the barrier have their hands in the air throughout to try and grab the attention of lead singer Stephan Jenkins. He thrusts the mic in their direction for 'Jumper' which they sing back in force. The angsty pop rock has good pace and never allows the audience's attention to drop off, as the band launches itself around the stage you cannot help but feel equally excited. The whole crowd are awarding the group with deafening applause as they take their final bows looking exhausted yet content.

Hard to believe it took from 1997 (the release of their self titled album) to last night for me to see TEB live. I was a fan of their catchy, well written songs and played that first album a lot.

I'm more hard rock/metal in preference, but listen to a wide variety of rock.

For whatever reason, they were at a resort at South Lake Tahoe and I decided to attend. They put on a great show, playing most their old hits and of course songs from their new album Dopamine. Their act was fast, professional, energetic and had the crowd of about 1500 jumping. They explained that they were on the last couple dates of this tour (they are from San Francisco) and made the comment that compared to the rest of the tour, this show felt like they were playing in a bar.

Opening for them as Dashboard Confessional. I had downloaded their albums to gain familiarity with them but their live show was nothing close to their recordings... very energetic band with quite a following.

Overall a great show, and TEB is back in my rotation.

Despite being a generation away from Third Eye Blind’s peak era, I nonetheless played Semi Charmed Life’ on a constant loop in my bedroom whilst I danced and sung along in my pyjamas, completely innocent as to the brilliantly dark lyrics. If I had been old enough to own a car, then it would have certainly been featured in my road trip playlist. The tune is, after all, an indie and cult classic. It raised Third Eye Blind to fame and cemented their position as indie gods. When the chords were struck for ‘Semi Charmed Life’, the whole crowd, most of whom were a few years older than me and clearly old fans of the band, went absolutely berserk. The band had the same incredible energy and passion that had set them apart back in their hay day. They were jumping up and down on stage and mustering the audience into a frenzy, getting everyone pumped and excited. During ‘Jumper’, the mic as held out to the audience for everyone to sing along to the much beloved lyrics.

This was my second time seeing TEB. First in 2017 up in Cleveland for their Summer Gods 2017 tour. This time here in my hometown of Kansas City. For a second time I was blown away by their energy and enthusiasm. They really get the crowd pumped up and give the perfect amount of interaction with their audience. The setlist of course was great, included a blend of older material and new songs that will be on their unreleased upcoming album.

For me, my favorite TEB song is Motorcycle Drive By and they nailed it perfectly even after all these years. Their wasn't a moment of their time onstage though that I was not dancing, singing, and smiling. I highly recommend seeing this band. Very talented and kind hearted individuals, wel worth the money. Can't wait till they come around next time, I'll be there.

Probably the most fun I have had in years. I wasn't listening to music I was feeling it. In every. Single. Song. I loved the set list starting out with Graduate fits perfectly for a show in San Francisco. Where it all began. Any fan knows why. Although for a lot of the self titled album songs Kevin Cadogan was missed on the guitar similarly Arion Salazar's unique style would've been a nice touch the show did not fail to exceed any expectation of greatness. Every new song rushed through the crowd and every old song felt like a warm heart pounding reunion. I love this band and couldn't have had a better time. Brad Hargreaves is made of lions!!!

Absolutely fantastic show! I've loved Third Eye Blind for awhile now, and this was my first time seeing their show. IT WAS FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! My love for their music burns brighter than ever before. They played straight for 1.5 hours, hit most of my all-time favorites, and seemed just as pumped to be there as I was. These tickets were a little more expensive than most of the shows I see at this venue, but it was worth every penny. I will definitely be seeing them again!

dirtydanglez19’s profile image

The VIP Meet-and-greet ticket was all I thought it would be and more. Not only did I get to meet the band for pictures and autographs, I got to sit through their whole sound check!!! It was like going to two concerts.

The whole performance, from all three bands (Augustana, Dashboard Confessional, and TEB), was on point.

The venue PNC Pavillion provided an ideal place for a show; however, the food/drink prices were a bit high.

Overall it was a win in my book!

Went to concert last night in Durham. The lead was recovering from a cold, vocals sucked really bad, should have cancelled and rescheduled the concert. The band is still super talented and the musicians are incredible with the instruments. Any who, something was really off, nice attempt but should have let the man recover properly. I am not rich, I used 1/3rd of my monthly spending money for this concert and was disappointed. Still and always will love this band!!!!

Customer

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. From CNN’s Masha Angelova and Josh Pennington

Suspects in the shooting attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue, from left: Saidakrami Murodali Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni, Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, and Muhammadsobir Fayzov.

Each of the four defendants charged with committing a terrorist act in the Crocus City concert hall attack was brought to court individually in Moscow on Sunday.

They are accused of committing a crime under part 3, provision “b” of article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (terrorist act), which the Russian Criminal Code states is punishable with up to life imprisonment.

Three pled guilty to all charges, according to state media news agency TASS .

Here's what we know about the accused:

  • Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev: The 32-year-old was the first defendant brought to court. Mirzoyev, from Tajikistan, had a temporary registration for three months in the southern Russian city of Novosibirsk in Siberia, but it expired, according to RIA Novosti.
  • Saidakrami Rachabalizoda: He appeared as the second defendant, and told the the court that he had Russian registration documents but couldn't remember where they were. He communicated through an interpreter, according to state media RIA Novosti. Rachabalizoda was reportedly born in 1994.
  • Shamsidin Fariduni: He was born in 1998 in Tajikistan and is a citizen of the Central Asian country. Fariduni was officially employed at a factory in the Russian city of Podolsk and was registered in the city of Krasnogorsk, according to state media RIA Novosti.
  • Muhammadsober Faizov: The fourth defendant appeared nonresponsive in a wheelchair and was accompanied by a doctor to his court appearance, as seen in Moscow City Court’s video shared on Telegram. Faizov was temporarily unemployed, before which he worked in a barber shop in Ivanovo, a city northeast of Moscow, and is registered in that city, according to state media RIA Novosti. He was reportedly born in 2004.

This post has been updated with more information on the charges against the suspects.

Moscow court orders preventive detention for all four defendants in concert hall attack case

A suspect is escorted before a court hearing at the Basmanny district court in Moscow, Russia March 24.

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow on Sunday granted the investigators’ motion for detention, as the chosen preventative measure, for all four defendants in the Crocus City Hall attack case.

All four men have been remanded into pre-trial detention until May 22, stated Moscow City Court via Telegram.

They are all charged with committing a terrorist act, according to the courts of general jurisdiction of the city of Moscow, which under the Russian Criminal Code is punishable up to life imprisonment.

Each of the four defendants was brought to court individually on Sunday.

Three pled guilty to all charges, according to state media news agency TASS.

The names of the four accused in the case are Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni and Mukhammadsobir Faizov, Moscow City Courts announced via Telegram.

All four are from Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic, and have been in Russia on either temporary or expired visas.

The court held closed hearings for each of the accused with no members of the public allowed, TASS reported, citing the court’s press service.

The first defendant in the Crocus City concert hall attack case, Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, has pleaded guilty on all counts, the press service of Moscow City Court told state media RIA Novosti.

He will be held in preventive custody at least through May 22.

Mirzoyev is one of two defendants implicated in the attack who are facing possible life imprisonment, as reported by state media.

The suspects — Mirzoyev and Saidakrami Rachabalizoda — appeared in a Moscow court on Sunday on charges related to the attack.

Both individuals are accused of committing a terrorist act and could be sentenced to life imprisonment, according to state media outlet RIA Novosti. The prosecution has requested detention as a precautionary measure for both defendants.

Authorities have petitioned the court to conduct Mirzoyev's hearing behind closed doors to safeguard the integrity of the proceedings, state media news agency TASS reported.

Crocus City Hall killings are deadliest since Beslan school siege — these are some other recent attacks in Russia

Emergency services are seen on the scene of the deadly 2017 metro blast in St. Petersburg.

The attack on Moscow's popular Crocus City Hall that left at least 133 dead has become the deadliest attack in Russia since the Beslan school siege in 2004.

Some other recent attacks include:

  • September 26, 2022 : Eleven children and four adults were killed when a gunman wearing Nazi symbols opened fire at a school in the western Russian city of Izhevsk. The shooter, who was reportedly wearing a black T-shirt with Nazi insignia and a helmet, died by suicide following the attack.
  • April 3, 2017 : At least 11 people were killed in a blast on the St. Petersburg metro. The explosion tore through a train as it was traveling between two stations in Russia’s second-largest city.
  • October 31, 2015 : A Russian passenger jet, Metrojet Flight 9268 crashed  on October 31 after departing from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh,  killing all 224 people  on board. US intelligence analysis suggested that ISIS or its affiliates  planted a bomb on the plane .
  • December 30, 2013 : A massive explosion at a train station in the Russian city of Volgograd killed at least 16 people, including one police officer, the Investigative Committee of Russia said.
  • January 25, 2011 : A suicide bomber attacked Domodedovo Airport , Moscow's busiest airport, killing 35 people and wounding about 100, authorities and state television said.
  • March 29, 2010 : Two explosions rocked the subway stations in central  Moscow during rush hour, killing at least 38 people and wounding more than 60 others, spawning widespread public outrage. A website associated with Chechen separatists, who have long fought for independence from Russia, claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Rescuers, robotic systems and canine teams are currently on site of Crocus City concert hall

From CNN’s Darya Tarasova and Eve Brennan

More than 300 “specialists” and 154 pieces of equipment are currently on site at the Crocus City concert hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow region, where a deadly attack took place Friday , Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said on Telegram on Sunday.

The ministry said more than 400 cubic meters of structures had been dismantled by rescuers while specialized robotic systems, canine teams and psychologists from the ministry continue to work.

More than 1,600 calls have already been received on the department’s hotline, the ministry added.

The post was accompanied by a video showing dozens of emergency workers digging through the rubble of the partially burned-down concert hall.

Remember : At least 137 people died on Friday after attackers opened fire on civilians at the Crocus City concert hall, and set the building ablaze. The Islamic State group, also known as ISIS, has claimed the attack and  released graphic footage  purporting to show the incident.

Putin lit a candle in memory of victims of the concert hall attack

From CNN's Eve Brennan and Anna Chernova

In this photo from the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin lights a candle in memory of victims of the Crocus City Hall attack, at the Novo-Ogaryovo residence in the Moscow region, on March 24.

Russian President Vladimir Putin lit a candle Sunday in memory of victims of the deadly attack at the Crocus City concert hall in Moscow region on Friday.

Putin also expressed deep condolences following the Moscow shooting, calling it a "barbaric terrorist act" in a video statement released Saturday.

More background: The deadly attack comes barely a week after Putin secured his fifth presidential term. The large-scale attack is damaging for a leader who portrays himself as someone able to guarantee order.

Death toll in concert hall attack rises to 137 — including 3 children, Russian Investigative Committee says

From CNN's Darya Tarasova

The Russian Investigative Committee has updated the death toll in the Crocus City attack to 137.

In a statement released online, the committee said "the bodies of 137 people have been found at the site of the terrorist attack, three of which are children."

The committee added that 62 bodies have been identified so far.

"For the remaining victims, genetic examinations are being carried out to establish their identities," the statement said. "The investigation of the crime scene continues."

Russian Embassy in US says it did not receive notification of impending terrorist attack

From CNN’s Katya Krebs in Moscow and Eve Brennan in London

The Russian flag flies in front of the country's embassy in Washington, DC, on February 16.

The Russian Embassy in Washington says it did not receive any warnings about a potential terror attack in Moscow from the US, Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov told Russian state news agency RIA Novosti on Sunday.

The US diplomatic mission had warned Americans to “avoid large gatherings” at the beginning of March due to reports “that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow.”

Earlier this week Putin had dismissed those warnings, telling the FSB that the embassy warnings were "provocative" and "outright blackmail."

“We did not receive any notifications or messages in advance,” Antonov told RIA.

“We paid attention to this, but,… I had no contacts with either the White House or the State Department on this issue,” he added.

In light of Friday’s attack at Crocus, Antonov told RIA Novosti that contacts between the US and the Russian Federation in the fight against terrorism have been “destroyed,” adding that the fault was not Moscow’s.

“I always reminded the Americans that our president was the first who, in 2001, extended his hand to the Americans and declared his readiness to provide help. And something worked, it worked... and it’s not our fault that all of this has been destroyed today,” he said.
